Infection Prevention Practice Summary
In my present role of in patient transplant coordinator, I round with the transplant surgical team
daily. The interdisciplinary team is aggressively looking for opportunities to minimizing
opportunistic infections for example: de escalating antibiotics, removing bladder catheters, as well
as removing central lines. If the patient is a hard stick, a peripherally inserted central catheter
(PICC) is placed. A study by Rutkoff, (2014) mentioned that an integration of antimicrobial PICCs
into the current infection prevention practices should be practiced for reduction central line
associated blood stream infections.
One of the hospital initiatives is the early hospital discharge. This has been a very difficult process
as it is a multidisciplinary

Site Analysis
Significance
High performance, sustainable/green buildings have become a trend and are gradually entering the
mainstream as an important market sector in the United States and globally. Construction of a
sustainable building typically begins with the selection of a suitable site. A building s location and
orientation on a site impact not only a wide range of environmental factors but also security and
accessibility factors. The Site Assessment pilot credit for site sustainability measure promotes
understanding of the character of the site and the physical, biological, and cultural links between
the site and the surrounding landscape. Performing an inventory of the site maximizes the
environmental efficiency of design and provides an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These maps are available through US Geological Survey, but in case of a precise assessment, a
licensed surveyor in accordance with specifications tailored to the construction could be required.
The topography influences aspects of the site, such as the microclimate, distribution of plant and
animal species, water movement, and storm water management practices. The goal of this section
of the LEED rating system is to promote options for minimizing disturbance and skillfully
incorporating the existing topography into the design.
2. Hydrology LEED rates this point based on flood hazard areas, delineated wetlands, lakes,
streams, shorelines, rainwater collection and reuse opportunities, and TR 55 initial water storage
capacity of the site. Change of land use may sometimes result in a negative impact on water quality.
Contamination may occur from any of the construction side effects, such erosion and
sedimentation, chemicals, or microorganisms. Any site disturbing activities can increase the risks
of flooding, erosion, and other ecological impacts to properties. Hence all such components and
risks are considered under the hydrology part of the site assessment report.
3. Climate LEED evaluates climate under site assessment report on credentials such as solar
exposure, heat island effect potential, seasonal sun angles, prevailing winds, monthly precipitation,
and temperature ranges.

Television and Crude Language
Why is crude language used in television? Some people think that the crude language used in
television serves no purpose and shows that a program was made by a bunch of idiots,
intellectually, who cannot think of anything intelligent to say. On the other side of the spectrum,
people could argue that vulgar language in movies or television serves as a way to make fun or to
interpret stupidity in our society. In the comedic movie South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, the
main characters, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny sneak into an R rated animated musical called
Terrance and Phillip Asses of Fire , which uses a high volume of crude language. This movie was
so terrible that everybody in the movie theatre left, while the only people that stayed through the
whole filmwere Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. After the movie, the boys were using all the
crude language that they had learned from the movie Terrance and Phillip. The creators of South
Park, Trey Parkerand Matt Stone, use crude language throughout their episodes to represent the
social issues in America. The creators use the crude language to cause attention, to practice their
freedom of speech in America, and to rebel against censorship in television which contributes to
the success of this program. South Park discusses issues prevalent in today s society and
encourages people to practice their freedom of speech, which is why this program should be
watched by more people. South Park is a very successful television

Gary Soto’s The Jacket Essay
All of us pass through adolescence before reaching adulthood. It is a crucial stage in everyone s
life that plays a big role in the adult life. The Jacket is a representation of Gary Soto s adolescent
life. It is a short story depicting his hardships as an adolescent as he battled with peer pressure
and low self esteem or lack of confidence caused by the ugly green jacket. The jacket serves as a
symbol of his personal battles, growth, maturity, and his readiness to face the cold and harsh
challenges in his life. The narrator strongly claimed that his clothes have failed him when he
recalled the green jacket he wore on his fifth and sixth grade. He believed that instead of looking
like a champion, his day old guacamole colored jacket has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He got D on his math quiz and bullied by the playground bully Frankie T. while his best friend
Steve Negrete did nothing but stare at him, and the girls turned away to whisper and talk about
him. He also claimed that the teachers were of no help as they looked at him and talked about
how foolish he looked like in his new jacket. He felt that they were all laughing and belittling
him while wearing that awful jacket. During lunch time, he stepped out to the field and wanted
to play kickball. Despite of the cold atmosphere, he removed his jacket and started playing.
When the school bell rang he slipped back into his jacket and went to his class. As soon as he
was able to warm up a bit, the fire bell rang that prompted everyone to go outside. As he queued
outside, other children looked at him and again he felt as though they were all laughing and
saying, Man, that s ugly (Soto, 474). Although he believed it was ugly, he continued wearing the
jacket since he has no choice. All the more he felt bad because wicked things happen
continuously. He was unable to do his homework, he got C s in most of his quizzes, and he even
forgot the capitals and rivers of South America. The girls who were previously friendly to him
blew away like loose flowers following boys in neat jackets (Soto, 474). Despite of the bad lucks
it caused him, he still wore the jacket for three years and has tagged along with him wherever he
went. And all those years he was unlucky

The Dark Forest Of Black Rock Essay
Ayland rode his horse around the deep forest circling the Hedgeknorey s castle, in black rock. He
carefully led his horse down a path within the evergreen forest of black rock, covered with pine
trees, but also with oak and elder trees.
He has been around this path many times before and maybe even too much as the curious souls
began to wonder why a boy of such a noble status would wander in the deep forest of black rock.
Not a lot of people spent time in forests, at least not too far away from the main rocky road, made
for horses, merchandises, and peasants on foot. People would not wander too far in the forest,
because of the obvious fear of wild animals, especially during winter. But they were also avoiding
another threat. And that threat was a human threat also known as Willem the Druid, who was a
feared and at the same time a much venerated man because of his knowledge of medicine and
herbs. He was also rumored to know magic, and this was perhaps what made him such a dreadful
person.
But Ayland had this thing about him; which was that he feared no one since he was also certain
that he was to become King, one day. This assertion was not born out of a pretentious, motherly
molded dream, but by the fact that he was an ambitious and great risk taker. Qualities he would
share with his mother.
Ayland, got down from his horse, tied it up and walked pass a small house, which should have
been the Druid s house. There was a strong smell of brewing rosemary herbs and the small

Moses Research Paper
Moses When Moses (Musa) returned from Mount Sinai to the company of the pharaoh, he
battled with all the magis under pharaoh s command. The rod and staff are symbols of that might
and power. The FOA acknowledges that the skills, Moses used to defeat the clergy of pharaoh
were not only his mastery in magic, but that he possessed skills in the martial arts. At that time the
magicians of Egypt were masters of the natural elements, represented as the snake s staff. (A
symbol used today called the caduceus as the wisdom in Medicine) Magic was at its highest peak
just like the Pyramids. Mosesbested them with a technique he learned from God (The sixth
element//Intelligence) while in exile at Mount Sinai. Moses skills with the Staff also proved that
Egypt had a stick fighting style 4000 years ago. Moses learned the ancient techniques of the
Sphinxes during his early years as a prince in Egypt. The FOA have a lesson (General Monk Monk
and the Tamahu) referring to the people that was made through special breeding, a man that did not
naturally come with the Earth. Ancient Egyptian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

As illustrated in the graph below, this marked the first time since 1994 that revenues have
declined. Regardless of this year s decline, Nike Inc. achieved 300% revenue growth over a 10
year period, rising from 1990 sales of $2.235 billion. Exhibit 1 * Obtained from Nike, Inc. 1999
Annual Report Although revenues declined in 1999, net income increased by 13% over the
prior year. As the graph below illustrates, net income has been volatile in the latter half of the 90
s. Sharp decreases in 1998 and 1999 net income were due to restructuring charges. If these
charges had not been incurred, income would have been flat for both years. Efficiency in cost
control and inventory management has allowed net income to increase while revenues decreased
in 1999. Note that the largest growth rate was 43% in 1997 over the prior year with net income of
$795.8 million. Exhibit 2 * Obtained from Nike, Inc. 1999 Annual Report Challenges Our greatest
challenge in 2000 will be to maintain the operational and financial initiatives we worked so hard to
implement in 1998 and 1999. We must maintain our inventory levels low enough that will allow us
to adapt to quickly changing market trends. Financially, we must remain conservative in our cost
structure. Cuts to operating expenses of almost $200 million this past year demonstrated that we are

Transitioning For A Child
The process of transitioning for a student who is approaching transition age is important because
a child is moving on to their next phase in life and that can be difficult, even for a child without
ID. However, a child that has ID needs to have steps and guidance in order to be prepared for what
is to come. A childwith disabilities will fail or even fall beyond if certain things are not in place.
In order for the student to succeed the educational system must provide transition services which
should be tailored to the student and their needs. What this looks like is having annual goals and
objectives in order to get to the annual goals. This will allow the student to be able to succeed. The

Ambition And Detection In Seth Gordon s Film King Of Kong
Seth Gordon s documentary King of Kong produced in 2007 is a very competitive and tensing
video. It expresses the gamers as very focused individuals and explains the hunger of winning for
them. The director Seth Gordon shows a contrast between ambition and obsession through codes
and convection as well as characteristics. The codes and conventions in the documentary also
play a vital role in portraying different aspects of personalities in different characters. They
change your perspective about certain people or events and make you more aware of what is
going on. Billy Mitchell, one of the players in the documentary, was shown extremely logical and
very professional. In disparity with, Steve Wiebe, another gamer, who was portrayed as a very
hardworking and ambitious man. Having said that, there were other characters in the documentary
which helped shape these two players identity and portrayal. Seth Gordon succeeds in persuading
us to think a particular type of way towards different roles played in the documentary.... Show more

his study. On the other hand, Steve was shown more of a family guy and talented. You can see
these qualities in him as he was filmed in many different places, such as, the playground,
Swimming pool and also in his garage. The director showed Steve s talents through making him
play the drums, the piano and also adding a clip of Steve playing basketball and teaching. By all

Batch File Essay
Batch Files
A batch file is a text file that usually carries out one or more tasks in order; these batch files run
like a small computer program. This information is listed out in a simple text format in the
window, which is then saved onto the computer and run by clicking on the selected file. Batch files
can be used to automate several tasks, which are used by both people in the computer industry or
just every day computer use. These files are often used to help load programs, run multiple
processes at a time, and perform common or repetitive tasks that will take up too much time to

paper will define the concept of self, and explain how an individual develops a self concept. It
will explain the relationship between the self and emotion and how this relationship affects an
individual s self esteem. It will also explain the relationship between the self and behavior and
how this relationship affects an individual s self presentation. The Concept of Self Self concept is
the knowledge and beliefs people have about themselves. According to Fiske, (2010) self concept

The relationship between self concept and self esteem can be looked at in relations to three
psychological theories: self discrepancy theory, self evaluation maintenance theory, and affective
forecasting theory (Diaz, 2011). The self discrepancy theory is the theory that deals with the
actual self, which is who the person currently is, the ought self is who the person feels they can
become and the ideal self is the person the individual wants to become. The self evaluation
maintenance theory deals with the relationship between how people perform along with the
performance of other people in area of high importance. Meaning if one individual score higher
in self importance issues this may decrease ones self esteem (Diaz, 2011). The affective
forecasting theory looks at the way people will foresee how things in the future will make them
feel. This theory deals with people miscalculating their future actions. People sometimes exaggerate
the influence of negative events and take the way they cope with things lightly. This means that
people with low self esteem tend to feel negatively about their coping skills and people with higher
self esteem feel more positively about their abilities to cope (Diaz, 2011). Relationship Between
self and Behavior and how this Relationship Affects an Individual s Self Presentation The

Explain Why The Royal Air Force Saved Britain
The Royal Air Force saved Britain from the Nazi regime. In the beginning of the summer of
1940, war broke out over the United Kingdom between the German Luftwaffe and the British
Royal Air Force. The fighting started because of the fall of France to the Nazi s. The Nazi s
looked to Britain as their next territory they wanted to occupy. Germany had a plan that they
were beginning to draw up. Operation Sea Lion called for an assault on Britain by gaining air
control over Britain. On the British side, they had a powerful air defense system. Within the air
defense system there were the fighter pilots. The leader of the Luftwaffe was Herman Goring and
the leader of The Royal Air Force fighter pilots was Air Marshal Hugh Dowding. He is considered...

As retaliation to the bombing of London, he ordered his Royal Air Force to bomb Berlin the
next night. The leader of the Luftwaffe, Herman Goring, said, you can call me Meyer (Wyatt

Churchill would not carry out his attack on Berlin. Goring was wrong and carried out his plan.
That night eighty one British Hampden bombers appeared over Berlin and delivered a blow that
would halt Hitler s Nazi Third Reich. After the bombing, Goring stated that a bombing of Berlin
would not happen again. To his surprise another bombing happened. Hitler was outraged and
stated in a radio addresses to his people if the British bomb our cities, we will bury theirs . He
ordered Goring to start a brutal air raid on London. The bombing hurt Britain, but gave much

The Royal Air Force forces back with increased numbers, they gave the Luftwaffe a beating and
diminished their forces. With the numbers of the Luftwaffe dwindling they could not keep up
fighting The Royal Air Force. This led to a point where all day bombings, and Operation Sea Lion
had to be halted. The British had won the battle. Due to these actions, a turning point in the war
took place. The successful defense of Britain was a turning point in WWII. If the Germans

Nuclear Waste Is The Substance That Nuclear Fuel
Nuclear waste is the substance that nuclear fuel becomes after it has been used in a reactor.
Although the metal rods appear unchanged after their use, the material inside has changed
greatly. Before it was used to produce power, the fuel mainly consisted of uranium. In order to
create heat energy in the reactor, U235 undergoes fission. Fission is a nuclear reaction in which
the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts. As a result of this, there is a chain reaction
which creates heat. The control rods control the fission rate and the temperature. In the steam
generator, the heat and cooling water create pressured steam which moves the turbine. The
turbine creates energy that goes into a generator which gives off electricity. The water from the
turbine is able to become usable since it gets cooled. Once a reactor reaches its lifetime, it
becomes spent fuel and is treated as waste. Most countries bury the spent fuel or reuse it. In the
U.S., we haven t decided what to do with the spent fuel so most of the spent fuel rods are stored
in temporary storage pools. In the future, the United States plans to bury the waste in the Yucca
Mountains which are located in Nevada. This would be a suitable place since it is not close to
humans or the environment. For the first part of the lab we had to go on Blackboard and open the
Spent Fuel document. We had to go to Appendix III which had some text and a chart about how
much spent fuel has been accumulated by each state. The years

The Death Of Mary Brown
Statement of Facts On January 1, 2011, Mary Brown (victim) went jogging at 7:00 pm on the
route she had been taking for six months and passing the usual houses. Upon reaching 123 Roper
Street, a man, John Smith (defendant) ran out, tackled her to the ground, jumped on top of her,
and eventually pinned her down. Then the defendant, using a box cutter, stabbed the victim in the
face, making a five inch gash just below her left eye. While cutting the victim, the defendant
stated, I watch you run by here every day and I wave hello to you from my window, but you
never wave back. You think you are too pretty to wave at me, well now you will not be pretty
anymore. The defendant s neighbor, Mike Jones, witnessed the attackand heard everything from his
yard, but was too afraid to stop the attack. John Smith has been charged with aggravated malicious
wounding. Mary Brown is a 30 year old mother of two small children that has resided in the
neighborhood for six years. She had never met the defendant until the attack. In the four years since
the attack, the victim has endured facial numbness, partial paralysis, and plastic surgery. Every day
Mary is reminded of the terrible encounter with John Smith by the permanent five inch scar, he
placed on her face. Trial has been continued several times and the medical expert will not be

Inventory Valuation
Inventory Valuation
Retailers define inventory as intended sellable assets consisting of goods that are available for
resale to customers. Manufacturers also maintain three components of inventory. These include
finished goods which are goods that have been completed and are awaiting sales. Manufacturers
may also have work in process inventory made up of goods being manufactured but not yet
completed. The third category of inventory is raw materials, consisting of goods that are to be used
in producing products. Overall, inventory should include all costs that are both ordinary and
necessary to put the goods in place and in condition for their resale. For many companies, what they
have in inventory represents a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To properly use the cost method in valuing your property, all direct and indirect costs associated
with it must be applied. Some general rules apply to the cost method including that for
merchandise on hand at the beginning of the tax year, cost means the inventory price of the
goods. Also, for any merchandise purchased during the year, cost means the invoice price less
discounts plus freight and other charges occurred in acquiring the goods. For any merchandised
produced during the year, cost means all direct and indirect costs that have to be capitalized
under the uniform capitalization rules (UNICAP). Under UNICAP, you must capitalize the
direct costs and partial indirect costs for production or resale activities subject to these rules.
Rather than claiming these costs as a current deduction, you include them in the basis of
property your produce or acquire for resale. You recover these costs through depreciation,
amortization, or cost of goods sold when you use, sell, or dispose of the property. Under the
lower of cost or market method, compare the market value of each item on hand on the inventory
date with its cost and use the lower value of its inventory value. This method is applied to goods
purchased and on hand and basic elements of cost of goods being manufactured (direct materials,
direct labor). This method does not apply to goods accounted for under the LIFO method. To

Tanguy s Painting The Earth And The Air
The earth and the air is an oil painting by the French Surrealist Yves Tanguy. It is one of the
modern art paintings in the Cone Collection, in the Baltimore Museum of Art. It is created by
Tanguy in 1941. It is about 30 x 40 wide with a wooden frame. The background colors divide the
piece into mainly two sections, the top and the bottom part. The top part is about 3/5 of the whole
piece. It is painted in blue and white, like a watercolor like sky without any subject matters. It has a
dreamy feeling because the colors blend smoothly.
There is no clear horizon line in the painting but it is still possible to separate the ground and the
sky by the background colors or the compositions. The top part is in mainly blue and white while the

The larger pieces are in the front while the objects in the back are smaller. Also the cast black
shadows of the objects are distinct with clear edges and more than one light spots are found in the
painting. Therefore there are several light sources coming from the right hand corner of the painting
and shine to the objects.
It is assumed that the main focus of the painting is the bottom part because the objects are placed
there and they draw viewers attention first. They are realistic but abstract and evenly distributed
on the page. They look like modern sculptures not only with alien shapes but also innovative
colors. There are a group of building like shapes on the most front of the painting. They are
connected at the bottom part so they can be described as a group. They have different dimensions
and one of them has a very sharp part pointing upwards to the melting land between the ground and
the sky. There are several alien objects around the main group, which some of them are really tiny
but still are painted precisely. There is a transparent objectin between the middle ground and the
background on the left hand side of the painting. The whole shape blends into the background
because of its transparency. Also it is because there is not enough light shinning to the object to
make it easily visible. One of the interesting about the painting is there are two super tiny spots
near the transparent object. They are painted clearly and you can see them only on closer

History And Advancement Of Anabolic Steroids
History of Steroids
So as to follow the history and advancement of anabolic steroids from their starting to their
present day structure, we initially need to think back towards old times, when it was realized
that the testicles were required for both the improvement and upkeep of male sexual qualities. In
advancement, this idea was further created, by a researcher named Berthold and his
examinations on cockerels done in 1849. He expelled the testes from these winged creatures, and
they lost a few of the attributes basic to the male of their species, including sexual capacity. In
this way, we knew as right on time as 1849 that the testicles worked to elevate what we consider
to be essential male sexual properties; at the end of the day, they are what make men into men .
Berthold additionally found that if the testicles were uprooted and after that transplanted to the
stomach area, the sexual capacity of the winged animals was to a great extent unaffected. At the
point when the fowls were analyzed, it was found that no apprehensive associations were shaped,
yet a limitlessly broad arrangement of capillarization occurred. (1) This gave solid confirmation
that the testes follow up on the blood (2) and he further inferred this blood then systemically
affected the whole living being. Anabolic Steroid history, along these lines, can be really said to
have made its initial step with this straightforward arrangement of tests.

Passion For Beauty In The Aeneid
I believe having passion and appreciation for beauty is not a bad and might be important to living
an exciting life. I used to be very passionate about things that happened ordinarily including the
display of beauty in everyday life, most of that passion, excitement and exuberance has gone
away. I am sure you know this because as the burden of duty takes over, the passion for beauty
slowly deteriorates. Exchanging beauty for duty sounds inhumane. But I can assure you it is not
as bad it sounds. As I am writing this I am reminded of a quote by Jean de La Fontaine, Patience
and time do more than passion. What Fontaine is saying is that patience and time, which could be
synonyms for duty, provide you with more in the long run. The passion for... Show more content on

It has are two main characters, Aeneas, who is driven by the passion of duty and Dido, who is very
emotional and passionate yet lacking in any rational thought. Just like people in the modern world,
the Aeneid s antagonists are constantly striving for more yet never finding contentment or any sort
of completion. They are always wanting what they cannot have. They are perhaps reaching for the
golden apple we talked about earlier in the class. So in my opinion, this foolish desire for passion
and always wanting more necessitates the importance of having principles and values to guide us in
life. The book shows this in the form of duty through the character and actions of Aeneas, who gives
up everything in exchange for duty because he believes that it is what will bring him long lasting
happiness and contentment.
In the Aeneid, duty, responsibility, and reason triumph over passion, desire, and beauty. This is
shown in Book II, where Aeneas focuses more on his duty than Dido as they flee the city, and also
in Book IV, where Aeneas controls his feelings for Dido just so he can fulfil his duty. I cannot
blame him for putting duty first because as Virgilshows out of control passion for beauty can

The Political Philosophy of Karl Raimund Popper
Karl Raimund popper (1902 to 1994) was an influential philosopher of science, who philosophized
about society, in much the same way he philosophized about science in a critical spirit. His personal
experience, as an Austrian Jew in the days of the Nazi Anschluss (meaning link up or annexation in
the German language), provided him a wealth of firsthand experience and insights into the nature of
totalitarian governments.
At a point in popper s life he was an enthusiast of Marxist socialism, but that enthusiasm was short
lived as he soon began to develop a skeptical turn of mind towards Marxist socialism. He questioned
the rationale in the sacrifice of human life which communism found necessary to its cause, after the

They also postulated a broad range of social teleological theories generally called historic ism in
which society was forced into accepting a unilateral version of reality which was wholly certain as

In the defense of the liberal tradition in politics Popper developed certain philosophical positions,
to counter the notions by those philosophers who advocated such illiberal philosophical ideas that
could only lead to the creation of closed societies for the world. The philosophical positions which
popper advanced included a twin edged liberalism , in the sense of peacefully tolerating the
proponents of closed societies in free societies, as long as they stuck to verbal arguments only, and
social engineering by a piecemeal or (gradual) approach to social reforms.
Popper considered the west and the rest of the world endangered by the influence of such thought
that promoted a historicist or collectivist frame of social thought. This sort of frame for social
thought he argued could only lead to the establishment of authoritarian and totalitarian forms of
government, which would in turn suppress and constrain the liberties and lives of people in the
long run.

Heritage Cooperative Case Study
Introduction I had the pleasure of working for Heritage Cooperative Inc during the summer of

Harrods or My Wardrobe websites. In particular the Selfridges website has over 45 exclusive
handbag styles online, from a variety of brands which include Mulberry, Alexander Wang and

by commissioning an exclusive colour option in the most popular styles. At present Net a porter

across the high fashion world and accounts for a considerable percentage of handbag sales in
London department stores. As they grow from strength to strength it would be advisable for Net a

Demographic Transition Paper
2,000 years ago the world, in terms of population, was only the size of the United States of
America, 300 million people. Today, the world s population is at seven billion and counting. If
the population rose at a steady rate from year 0, we would ve reached 1 billion people by about
210 A.D. This, however, was not the case. We reached 1 billion people in 1800 A.D, which means
that there had to be very odd growth periods for the populationas a whole REWORD ME. From 0 to

1800, with 1 billion people worldwide, to 1930, the world gained another billion people. We then
reached three billion people in 1960, five billion in 1987, and 7 billion in 2013. One can clearly

People are going hungry because of poverty, not because of a shortage of food (Silverbush, 2012).
The problems arising from factory farms are only getting bigger and more disastrous to the
environment. These farms raise hundreds or thousands of animals in close confinement;
otherwise know as concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFOs. Large CAFOs are
controlled under federal and state pollution regulations because they produce massive quantities
of animal waste that can pose environmental and heath hazards if mishandled (Weeks, 3). So why
would farmers be farming this way it is so dangerous? The answer is simple; these farms can
produce large quantities of food cheaply. If a farm can produce more hogs or calves, its profit is
larger. In order for farmers to stay on their land, they are forced into poorly paid off farm
employment (Food). Livestock farmers are told that they must adopt the new industrial technologies
that make CAFO s feasible, if they expect to have a future in farming (Kallen, 64). The byproducts
of such farms are producing harmful odors. The runoff from these farms pollutes streams and
groundwater with antibiotics, insecticides, pathogens and emits poisonous gases that are hazardous
and create offensive odors (Weeks, 2). The question now becomes, is factory farmingthe only way
out? Is an industrial approach to agriculture needed to feed the poor and hungry of the world? The

Cultural Differences Between Body Language, Communication...
As professional caregivers, nurses are required to communicate with patients to assess, diagnose
and provide interventions that result in desirable outcomes. An ever changing cultural and spiritual
population is a hallmark of the US identity since its inception two and a half centuries ago. This
poses a challenge for nurses who must be able to quickly and accurately identify client needs and
provide appropriate care. Language differences are a natural barrier to communication, as are
cultural differences in body language, communication styles and cultural beliefs. People whose
culturediffers from the nurse may have different views about overall health and well being, choices
for interventions, responses to pain and opinions about death and life prolonging care. Nurses must
be open to differences in cultural beliefs and educate themselves about the diversity in their area to
best meet the needs of the community.
It is important, however, that a well intentioned desire to achieve cultural competence does not
result in oversimplification and stereotyping. There is variation within cultural groups and
uniqueness to individual experiences that must also be considered. Nurses must aspire to respect
differences in culture and treat patients in a manner that instills trust. The American Nurses
Association developed a set of standards of practice for culturally competent nursing to ensure that
all patients specific needs are addressed, as well as ensuring equity in the workplace

European powers began to take over territories throughout the continent of Africa during the 19th
century. Historian Adam Hochschild s depiction of King Leopold of Belgium was written in 1998
and titled, King Leopold s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa.
Hochschild talked extensively about the greed for money and slavery resulting in the genocide of
the Congo and the protests of humanitarians that followed the King s exploitation of Africans. In his
thesis, the author stated that [t]his is the story of that movement, of the savage crime that was its

The Portuguese travelers were amazed by its size and recorded their thoughts in a diary stating,
this noble river had determined to try its strengths in pitched battle with the ocean itself. In more
serious parts of his argument, Hochschild used the European sources to prove his thesis. For
example, on page 166, the author quoted a Catholic priest who recorded the calamities that King
Leopold s men did in his name in Africa. The priest related the story of how a state official
named LГ©on FiГ©vez terrorized African villagers by killing a few men (severing the head or
cutting the hands of Africans) to make an example out of them. FiГ©vez s terror was so
impressive that even a Force Publique officer quoted him saying My goal is ultimately
humanitarian. I killed a hundred people...but that allowed five hundred others to live.
Hochschild heavily relied on European sources to prove his point for both simple and serious
matters. The priest described how All the blacks saw this man as the Devil of the Equator.
However, this is according to the priest s own perspective. This is how he perceived Africans to
feel about FiГ©vez. In other words, it is the priest s perception. There is no way of knowing for
sure how Africans truly felt because their voice is silence. Nevertheless, Hochschild made a safe
assumption as the terror the sources described can only provoke intimidation and the fact that

The Function Of Sleep Behavior
Across species, animals spend a substantial minority of their lives sleeping. In fact, humans spend
on average approximately one third of their lives asleep (Colten and Altevogt, 2006). With such
devotion of time resources and the his tells us, from an evolutionary standpoint, that sleep is an
important part of the success of an animal. But what fitness does sleep confer to an organism?
Although sleep occurs across many species of animals, the function of sleep behavior is not fully
understood. Studies might suggest that this behavior might play a role in several important
processes, such as the regeneration of tissue and energy management (Sara, 2017, Rasch and Born,

As early as the 1950s, scientists have parsed the main stages of sleep. In one such study, eye
movements, recorded by electrooculograms (EOG) correlated with the brain activity in
electroencephalograms(EEGs) as well as respiratory rate, indicating the existence of distinct sleep
states which were not randomly generated (Aserinsky and Klietman, 1953). The discovery of
distinct states showed sleep was not just a passive behavior. Instead, it consists of three to four
distinct states as well as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, each with their own unique brain
activity.
While REM sleep has been in the scientific spotlight since its discovery for its role in consolidation
of emotional memory (Sara, 2017), recently more studies have begun to focus on the role of
slow wave sleep. Slow wave sleep (SWS) encompasses the stage 3 4 subset of non REM sleep
and is characterized by delta waves that consist of slow oscillations of activity. This type of sleep
occurs primarily at the onset of sleep and time spent in SWS declines in humans as aging occurs.
SWS seems to be most important in the consolidation phase, though the mechanisms of this
consolidation are still being explored in the scientific community. However, the method of this
memory consolidation is currently a subject of hot debate. What caused scientists to link memory
and sleep, particularly SWS? Research as early as 1914 began to point to a decrease in memory

An example of this is when a country is caught in a death spiral they are stuck in a taxes spending
debt cycle. When a country spends more than it takes in (tax revenue) debt is incurred. Debt can
be a healthy sign, like a company that wants to buy another truck to be able to meet its requests
for more services. However, when a country takes on too much debt, investors start to lose trust in
that country s ability to pay its debt, so in order to get more funds, the creditors raise the interest
rate, thereby increasing its debt; and higher debt leads to lack of investor trust which leads to higher
interest rates, increasing the debt. (Khanacademyorg, 2012) And the death spiral begins.
As with an individual, when they get a pay raise, they can afford the new debt. With a country,
they must raise the taxes. If the citizens are not growing financially as a whole (Gross Domestic
Product (GDP) the broadest quantitative measure of a nation s total economic activity
(Investinganswerscom, 2016)), then the ability of the country to raise taxes safely becomes
problematic. Thus, the well being of the individuals of a society help that country to grow. In other
words, in 1776, Adam Smith called this being led by an invisible hand (Smith, Cannan, 1904). This
invisible hand is the self interest of the individuals of society to better their lives through their own

Evaluation of credit rating Memorandum: Credit Rating assignment: Home Depot, Inc. After
analysing the financial statements of Home Depot, we have allocated a C rating of credit risk.
The proposal is to start with the C rating and then to either upgrade to a B rating or to be down
graded to a D rating. The reason for such a decision is discussed below. Home Depot has a current
ratio of 1.19 to 1 which means that it s current assets covers it s current liabilities by 1.19 times.
This is the lowest that it had been for the last 10 years against an average of 1.61. A current ratio of
2 or higher would usually be a qualifier for good credit risk. The low current ratio of Home Depot
will increase the credit risk. Working... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gross Profit Rate: The average year on year increase in gross profit rate over the past 10 years
was 19.85% (Annexure 2, Table). This indicator peaked in 1999 at 32.54% and gradually
reduced over the past 6 years and ended at 11.83% for the 2005 financial year which is the
lowest over the last 9 years. This is of major concern as it seams that the company can t stop the
deterioration in the gross profit rate. Net income as a percentage of sales: The average year on
year increase in net income as a percentage of sales over the past 10 years was 5.91% (Annexure
2, Table). This is the one indicator that Home Depot has managed to keep stable for the past 10
years. It had shown steady growth over the years and the 7.20% achieved in 2005 is the highest
in the 10 year window period. ii Conclusion After calculating and analyzing the ratios and their
trends the following conclusion regarding the profitability of Home Depot can be made: Growth
in Net Sales reduced with 1.3% between 2004 and 2005 while cost of sales increased with 1.4%
over the same period resulting in a reduction in the gross profit rate. In order to conclude on the net
earnings, a trend was calculated with regards to the return on invested capital (assets). The trend, as
computed from the table and graph in annexure 2, shows

Differences Between The Dishonest And Movie In The Movie...
Beowulf Beowulf is epic poem that has been passed down since the Anglo Saxon era Britain.
The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very
great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life.
Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was
drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these
changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all
were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the
movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulfis made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie
they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where
Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of
him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to
actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs,
when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he
has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t
mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty. Another major difference between the
poem and the movie is the fact that Grendel s mother is never slain in the

Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, And President Van Buren
This war began when the White man crossed the Atlantic Ocean in search of independence. They
left Europe and slowly began fighting for a better life which eventually led to their break away
from the harsh brutalities of the British government. When, in all reality, their search for
independence led to the abolishment of the freedom of the Native Americans. Instead of placing
light onto this subject, it is swept under the rug in schools across America today. I believe that the
way the American government chose to gain territory was selfish and ignorant and led to the loss
of many cultures and precious lives. Some of the ways this happened was by the removal of rights,
battles, untruthful treaties, and confiscation of land. In many ways American history books and
movies portray Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, and President Van Buren to be American
heroes, but these so called heroes are actually murderers, thieves, and liars. Jackson and Van Buren
believed that the Indians needed to become civilized and convert to Christianity, yet the actions
these two presidents practiced were opposite of what the religion boasts. Obviously, they were the
ones who needed to become civilized and remember where they came from and that what they were
taking away from the Indians is exactly what they had fought for. Whenever Jackson was elected
president, he implemented laws that did away with the tribe as a legal unit and made them subject
to militia duty and state taxes,

Analysis Of The Documentary The Film
A film director in Louisiana wants to publish a documentary that criticizes a candidate s lack of
integrity. (writing prompt) The candidate responded to the documentary by stating that the material
published would be scandalous and defamatory. The candidate decided to approach a Louisiana
judge in the hopes of obtaining a restraining order against the publishing and completion of the
documentary. The judge reviewed the plans for the documentary and the film that had been
recorded and determined its content was offensive and scandalous, although true and not
defamatory. (writing prompt) The judge decided to file the restraining order, which prevents the
sale, viewing, or distribution of the documentary. (writing prompt) The dispute over this case is
whether or not the director s First Amendment rights to release and complete the documentary have
been infringed upon. Upon the basis that prior restraint is presumptively invalid by the government;
the restraining order against the film director is unfounded and infringes upon the director s rights
protected under the First Amendment. The most applicable law to apply in this situation is equity
law. Unlike other laws, judges, not legislatures make equity laws in order to provide fairness to
citizens. Additionally, equity law is based on the presumption that fairness is not always achieved
through the rigid applications of strict rules. (Trager, Russomanno, Ross, Reynolds, 2014, p. 26)

Moral Education and Emotional Lying Essay
Moral Education and Emotional Lying
There is a long tradition, fathered by Aristotle and recurring like some recessive gene in recent
virtue theorists, that holds that the emotions, like acts, must be trained . Consider the following:
[In Beckett s portrayal,] Emotions are not feelings that well up in some natural and untutored way
from our natural selves, that they are, in fact, not personal or natural at all, that they are, instead,
contrivances, social constructs. We learn how to feel, and we learn our emotional repertoire. We
learn emotions in the same way that we learn our beliefs from our society. (Nussbaum 1990, p287)
Emotions, in Aristotle s view, are not alwayscorrect, any more than beliefs or actions are ... Show

The problem arises, however, when we consider two agents: Agent X acts in accordance with
social demands, or, does not act (also in accordance with social demands) while considering this
merely a means to ensure such social harmony as he can get. Agent Y exhibits or does not exhibit
emotions also in accordance with social demands, while considering this also merely a means to
ensure social harmony. Neither Agent X nor Agent Y believe in what they are doing, in any sense
deeper than the wish to conform to reasonable social demands.
We can portray this situation as follows:
Agent CA conforms with respect to acting.
Agent CE conforms with respect to emoting .
Agent BA believes in his acts.
Agent BE believes in his emotions
Are Agents CA and CE not on equal footing with agents BA and BE as regards ethics, for better or
worse?
Apparently not. There is widespread dislike of Agent CE as a hypocrite, an accusation rarely
hurled against Agents CA, BA, or BE. Even Williams (1973, p224) states that simulating emotions
one does not feel could be misleading, even deceitful .
Agent CE is in a bind: if he responds as society dictates, he is a hypocrite; and if he does not, he
is a misfit or (in extreme situations) a psychopath . Agent CE has been trained in the sense that he
knows what is expected of him, and does it; and his motives are those of prudence. However,

The Creation of Barbie as an American Icon Essay examples
The Creation of Barbie as an American Icon
Barbie, at the age of 41, is one of the longest living toys in America. Analyzing her early history
can give a person a look into the societal trends and culture of the late 1950 s and early 1960 s.
There is evidence of fashion innovations in Barbie s wardrobe. Also, one can see the perception
of females by society, such as what they should look like, how they should act and dress, as well
as what their future goals could be. The following essay follows Barbie s history from 1959 to
1963, covering her development, her appeal to children, and her existence as a cultural artifact of
the time period.
History: Barbie s Debut in 1959

In addition to a different body, Bud Westmore, the make up czar at Universal Pictures, gave Lilli
a makeover (Lord 32). He discarded her bee stung lips, heavy eyelashes, and widow s peek
eyebrows (Lord 32). Following these improvements, Ryan modified the doll s joints.
Finally in 1958, Barbie Millicent Roberts was born 11 1/2 inches tall and weighing 11 ounces.
She debuted as a teenage model in a black and white striped swimsuit that came with sunglasses,
high heeled shoes, and gold colored hoop earrings (see Figure 1). Her body was shapely with
movable head, arms, and legs. Barbie was the first doll in America with an adult body.
America s Reaction
Ruth Handler realized that pretending about the future was a part of the growing up process.
While she watched her daughter, Barbara (who Barbie is named after), playing with paper dolls,
Handler formulated the idea of creating an adult doll. This was not necessarily a new idea
because there were adult fashion dolls, such as Cissy and Miss Revlon, which were on the market.
The phenomenon behind Barbie was that she was an affordable toy that had those same grown up
accessories as the other adult dolls.
As soon as Barbie was introduced to the public, her mature body horrified many adult females.
Mothers said they would not allow their child to play with Barbie because they were wary of her
sex appeal. Mattel conducted a study with mothers and daughters before they introduced Barbie.

Montaigne And St. Augustine s Confessions
Montaigne and St. Augustine s views of happiness and the self are both very compelling and
indicative of the times of which they were living. If both Montaigne and St. Augustine were to
converse today, it would be apparent that there would be a bit of clashing between their unique
methods of applying human logic to achieve a higher level of understanding of daily events and the
environment around them. St. Augustine uses a linear, dogmatic technique to emphasize one s sins
while still glorifying God, and Montaigne with a more fluid, skeptical, unbiased approach through
personal reflection. These two distinct ways of perceiving the self and higher order understanding
are apparent in Montaigne s Essays and St. Augustine s narrative Confessions.... Show more content

Augustine was born in northern Africa portion of the Roman Empire in 354, a time of which
Catholicism was not a prominent feature of Roman society and of which had failed to make an
impression on Augustine until he was in his early thirties (45 6 B). He was quite an intellectual
as he became a professor and taught grammar and was well versed in Latin. Augustine s
intelligence is apparent in the systematic progression of his autobiography Confessions as he
looks back at his past self from a child to an adult in his upper forties with a new higher order
perception of the self. Augustine uses God as a method of conversion from egocentricity to a
more God central view in his depiction of reasonless theft simply because I loved the evil in me
(52 B) and further shows the transition in his thinking by his realization that the pears we stole
were beautiful for they were created by Thee, Thou most Beautiful of all (53 B). By writing as a
new person looking at their past self that was susceptible to lust, theft, and all kinds of sins,
Augustine is able to convey the idea that the self is able to change at a fixed moment, and that the
defining point of the self is the memory and grace

In the assignment, we were supposed to take the surveys to identify our political leanings which
I successfully did. So, as a result of my survey, it shows that I fall under Moderate Democrat
category which clearly mentioned that I belong to democrats rather than republic. There are
many political issues that arises while it comes to develop the nation and state. Marriage is one
of the issues. According to democrats, marriage should be performed only between men and
women as they are different gender. They meant that homosexual marriage is extremely
prohibited in the state. This is prevalent not only in democratic party but in almost all part of the
world. But I believe that marriage can be done with any gender and we should respect every

do abortion. They said that the government cannot do anything regarding it. But what I believe is,
most of the women are forced to abort the unborn child due to many reasons like their

March On Washington March Analysis
I marched in the Women s March in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 21st. I longed to be with men
and women in Washington D.C, but could not make the journey. After attending the Women s
March on Washington panel, I learned you did not have to be present in our nation s capital for
your voice to be heard. The atmosphere of the marches was indescribable and filled with love. Prior
to the march, I was nervous for the marchers across the world. It was interesting to learn that the
students on the panel, did not feel caution toward this march. For some, it was overcoming the
judgment and ridicule they received from familyand friends. Yet, this march was one of the largest
protests in history, but also one of the most peaceful. I was in amazement... Show more content on

I believe the marches across the globe had the same loving and supportive atmosphere. The
students on the panel believe it is due to female biology. Females tend to not cause violence or
disruption, while males are not communicators and can not express their thoughts and feelings
as well. Also, women are more organized and take on the mom leader of this organization. For
example, one panel member recalls getting fed snacks all day by the people around her. Women
were prepared with snacks, water, band aids, and winter gear for the chilly weather. The panelist
recalled how they only saw one group protesting the march. I was fearful the March on
Washington would draw negative protestors who protested against equality. Well, it was
interesting to learn the group only saw one anti abortion group by the Washington monument.
Though, the ridicule and protestors were heard after the protest. The panelist and I both believe
the marches were inspirational. While we were marching and surrounded by positive and loving
people, it felt as if we were in our own bubble. Then, once the march ended and the ignorance of
the outside world showed. The panelists handle the supporters better than I do. They rise above
and continue to fight the good fight. While, I question their thought process and try to learn their
ignorance. Overall, I believe the marches were similar. The panelists encouraged to keep fighting
and the citizens of America are the ones who can make a change in America. I am excited to get

Who are you? because they knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it

One reason is that
his books have no perceptible hint of brazilianness. The tall tale nature of his
stories, particularly The Alchemist, makes it clear that chronicled precision is not the
purpose of the story. For Coelho s situation the contentions against him are of an alternate sort. To
begin with,
there is the dissension that his Portuguese is, truth be told, not great. What is intriguing is
that the greater part of his linguistic stumbles are omitted in interpretation. In this way, one just sees
them in the event that one peruses Portuguese, something that exclusive a little part of his
readership does.
Truth be told, these wrongdoings against linguistic use do nothing to such an extent as give a gentle
casual quality
to the dialect, and don t diminish at all from the charm and conceivability of
the content. The protestation is more political than whatever else, since Brazilian Portuguese, a
dialect which still recognizes forcefully amongst composed and talked dialect, has too
been interested in the incorporation of conversational discourse in writing. The issue is political
since it is comprehended that these incorporations were finished by individuals from the intellectual

Archetypal Criticism In In The Time Of The Butterflies By...
The Deeper Meaning
An American poet once stated, Great literature is simply language charged with meaning to the
utmost possible degree (Pound). Every piece of literature has an impactful underlying meaning
and can be interpreted into universal symbols, motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a
theory based off common myths, images, and symbols in literature. The definition of an
archetype can be defined as a very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). With
that being said, readers can apply Archetypal Criticism to In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia
Alvarez. Alvarez uses common character types, like the hero and the villain, and also uses the
symbol of butterflies in her novel.

because they symbolized what it meant to be a butterfly. The Mirabal sisters changed from
being little children following their parents, to individuals leading a revolution and having other

The interdisciplinary team is aggressively looking for opportunities to minimizing opportunistic infections for example: de escalating antibiotics, removing bladder catheters, as well as removing central lines. These maps are available through US Geological Survey, but in case of a precise assessment, a licensed surveyor in accordance with specifications tailored to the construction could be required. The topography influences aspects of the site, such as the microclimate, distribution of plant and animal species, water movement, and storm water management practices. The goal of this section of the LEED rating system is to promote options for minimizing disturbance and skillfully incorporating the existing topography into the design. 2. Hydrology LEED rates this point based on flood hazard areas, delineated wetlands, lakes, streams, shorelines, rainwater collection and reuse opportunities, and TR 55 initial water storage capacity of the site. Any site disturbing activities can increase the risks of flooding, erosion, and other ecological impacts to properties. • 4. Television and Crude Language Why is crude language used in television? Some people think that the crude language used in television serves no purpose and shows that a program was made by a bunch of idiots, intellectually, who cannot think of anything intelligent to say. On the other side of the spectrum, people could argue that vulgar language in movies or television serves as a way to make fun or to interpret stupidity in our society. In the comedic movie South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, the main characters, Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny sneak into an R rated animated musical called Terrance and Phillip Asses of Fire , which uses a high volume of crude language. This movie was so terrible that everybody in the movie theatre left, while the only people that stayed through the whole filmwere Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. After the movie, the boys were using all the crude language that they had learned from the movie Terrance and Phillip. The creators of South Park, Trey Parkerand Matt Stone, use crude language throughout their episodes to represent the social issues in America. The creators use the crude language to cause attention, to practice their freedom of speech in America, and to rebel against censorship in television which contributes to the success of this program. South Park discusses issues prevalent in today s society and encourages people to practice their freedom of speech, which is why this program should be watched by more people. South Park is a very successful television ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gary Soto’s The Jacket Essay All of us pass through adolescence before reaching adulthood. It is a crucial stage in everyone s life that plays a big role in the adult life. The Jacket is a representation of Gary Soto s adolescent life. It is a short story depicting his hardships as an adolescent as he battled with peer pressure and low self esteem or lack of confidence caused by the ugly green jacket. The jacket serves as a symbol of his personal battles, growth, maturity, and his readiness to face the cold and harsh challenges in his life. The narrator strongly claimed that his clothes have failed him when he recalled the green jacket he wore on his fifth and sixth grade. He believed that instead of looking like a champion, his day old guacamole colored jacket has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He got D on his math quiz and bullied by the playground bully Frankie T. while his best friend Steve Negrete did nothing but stare at him, and the girls turned away to whisper and talk about him. He also claimed that the teachers were of no help as they looked at him and talked about how foolish he looked like in his new jacket. He felt that they were all laughing and belittling him while wearing that awful jacket. During lunch time, he stepped out to the field and wanted to play kickball. Despite of the cold atmosphere, he removed his jacket and started playing. When the school bell rang he slipped back into his jacket and went to his class. As soon as he was able to warm up a bit, the fire bell rang that prompted everyone to go outside. As he queued outside, other children looked at him and again he felt as though they were all laughing and saying, Man, that s ugly (Soto, 474). Although he believed it was ugly, he continued wearing the jacket since he has no choice. All the more he felt bad because wicked things happen continuously. He was unable to do his homework, he got C s in most of his quizzes, and he even forgot the capitals and rivers of South America. The girls who were previously friendly to him blew away like loose flowers following boys in neat jackets (Soto, 474). Despite of the bad lucks it caused him, he still wore the jacket for three years and has tagged along with him wherever he went. And all those years he was unlucky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Dark Forest Of Black Rock Essay Ayland rode his horse around the deep forest circling the Hedgeknorey s castle, in black rock. He carefully led his horse down a path within the evergreen forest of black rock, covered with pine trees, but also with oak and elder trees. He has been around this path many times before and maybe even too much as the curious souls began to wonder why a boy of such a noble status would wander in the deep forest of black rock. Not a lot of people spent time in forests, at least not too far away from the main rocky road, made for horses, merchandises, and peasants on foot. People would not wander too far in the forest, because of the obvious fear of wild animals, especially during winter. But they were also avoiding another threat. And that threat was a human threat also known as Willem the Druid, who was a feared and at the same time a much venerated man because of his knowledge of medicine and herbs. He was also rumored to know magic, and this was perhaps what made him such a dreadful person. But Ayland had this thing about him; which was that he feared no one since he was also certain that he was to become King, one day. This assertion was not born out of a pretentious, motherly molded dream, but by the fact that he was an ambitious and great risk taker. Qualities he would share with his mother. Ayland, got down from his horse, tied it up and walked pass a small house, which should have been the Druid s house. There was a strong smell of brewing rosemary herbs and the small ... • 7. Moses Research Paper Moses When Moses (Musa) returned from Mount Sinai to the company of the pharaoh, he battled with all the magis under pharaoh s command. The rod and staff are symbols of that might and power. The FOA acknowledges that the skills, Moses used to defeat the clergy of pharaoh were not only his mastery in magic, but that he possessed skills in the martial arts. At that time the magicians of Egypt were masters of the natural elements, represented as the snake s staff. (A symbol used today called the caduceus as the wisdom in Medicine) Magic was at its highest peak just like the Pyramids. Mosesbested them with a technique he learned from God (The sixth element//Intelligence) while in exile at Mount Sinai. Moses skills with the Staff also proved that Egypt had a stick fighting style 4000 years ago. Moses learned the ancient techniques of the Sphinxes during his early years as a prince in Egypt. Regardless of this year s decline, Nike Inc. achieved 300% revenue growth over a 10 year period, rising from 1990 sales of $2.235 billion. Exhibit 1 * Obtained from Nike, Inc. 1999 Annual Report Although revenues declined in 1999, net income increased by 13% over the prior year. As the graph below illustrates, net income has been volatile in the latter half of the 90 s. Sharp decreases in 1998 and 1999 net income were due to restructuring charges. If these charges had not been incurred, income would have been flat for both years. Efficiency in cost control and inventory management has allowed net income to increase while revenues decreased in 1999. Note that the largest growth rate was 43% in 1997 over the prior year with net income of $795.8 million. Exhibit 2 * Obtained from Nike, Inc. 1999 Annual Report Challenges Our greatest challenge in 2000 will be to maintain the operational and financial initiatives we worked so hard to implement in 1998 and 1999. We must maintain our inventory levels low enough that will allow us to adapt to quickly changing market trends. Financially, we must remain conservative in our cost structure. The self evaluation maintenance theory deals with the relationship between how people perform along with the performance of other people in area of high importance. That night eighty one British Hampden bombers appeared over Berlin and delivered a blow that would halt Hitler s Nazi Third Reich. After the bombing, Goring stated that a bombing of Berlin would not happen again. To his surprise another bombing happened. Hitler was outraged and stated in a radio addresses to his people if the British bomb our cities, we will bury theirs . He ordered Goring to start a brutal air raid on London. The bombing hurt Britain, but gave much needed rest to The Royal Air Force. The British could build back their bases and factories. With The Royal Air Force forces back with increased numbers, they gave the Luftwaffe a beating and diminished their forces. With the numbers of the Luftwaffe dwindling they could not keep up fighting The Royal Air Force. This led to a point where all day bombings, and Operation Sea Lion had to be halted. • 16. Nuclear Waste Is The Substance That Nuclear Fuel Nuclear waste is the substance that nuclear fuel becomes after it has been used in a reactor. Although the metal rods appear unchanged after their use, the material inside has changed greatly. Before it was used to produce power, the fuel mainly consisted of uranium. In order to create heat energy in the reactor, U235 undergoes fission. Fission is a nuclear reaction in which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller parts. As a result of this, there is a chain reaction which creates heat. The control rods control the fission rate and the temperature. In the steam generator, the heat and cooling water create pressured steam which moves the turbine. The turbine creates energy that goes into a generator which gives off electricity. The water from the turbine is able to become usable since it gets cooled. Once a reactor reaches its lifetime, it becomes spent fuel and is treated as waste. Most countries bury the spent fuel or reuse it. In the U.S., we haven t decided what to do with the spent fuel so most of the spent fuel rods are stored in temporary storage pools. In the future, the United States plans to bury the waste in the Yucca Mountains which are located in Nevada. This would be a suitable place since it is not close to humans or the environment. For the first part of the lab we had to go on Blackboard and open the Spent Fuel document. We had to go to Appendix III which had some text and a chart about how much spent fuel has been accumulated by each state. The years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To properly use the cost method in valuing your property, all direct and indirect costs associated with it must be applied. Some general rules apply to the cost method including that for merchandise on hand at the beginning of the tax year, cost means the inventory price of the goods. Also, for any merchandise purchased during the year, cost means the invoice price less discounts plus freight and other charges occurred in acquiring the goods. For any merchandised produced during the year, cost means all direct and indirect costs that have to be capitalized under the uniform capitalization rules (UNICAP). Under UNICAP, you must capitalize the direct costs and partial indirect costs for production or resale activities subject to these rules. Rather than claiming these costs as a current deduction, you include them in the basis of property your produce or acquire for resale. You recover these costs through depreciation, amortization, or cost of goods sold when you use, sell, or dispose of the property. Under the lower of cost or market method, compare the market value of each item on hand on the inventory date with its cost and use the lower value of its inventory value. This method is applied to goods purchased and on hand and basic elements of cost of goods being manufactured (direct materials, direct labor). This method does not apply to goods accounted for under the LIFO method. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is one of the modern art paintings in the Cone Collection, in the Baltimore Museum of Art. It is created by Tanguy in 1941. It is about 30 x 40 wide with a wooden frame. There are a group of building like shapes on the most front of the painting. They are connected at the bottom part so they can be described as a group. • 21. History And Advancement Of Anabolic Steroids History of Steroids So as to follow the history and advancement of anabolic steroids from their starting to their present day structure, we initially need to think back towards old times, when it was realized that the testicles were required for both the improvement and upkeep of male sexual qualities. In advancement, this idea was further created, by a researcher named Berthold and his examinations on cockerels done in 1849. He expelled the testes from these winged creatures, and they lost a few of the attributes basic to the male of their species, including sexual capacity. In this way, we knew as right on time as 1849 that the testicles worked to elevate what we consider to be essential male sexual properties; at the end of the day, they are what make men into men . Berthold additionally found that if the testicles were uprooted and after that transplanted to the stomach area, the sexual capacity of the winged animals was to a great extent unaffected. At the point when the fowls were analyzed, it was found that no apprehensive associations were shaped, yet a limitlessly broad arrangement of capillarization occurred. (1) This gave solid confirmation that the testes follow up on the blood (2) and he further inferred this blood then systemically affected the whole living being. Anabolic Steroid history, along these lines, can be really said to have made its initial step with this straightforward arrangement of tests. Later, in 1929 a method to deliver a concentrate ... I used to be very passionate about things that happened ordinarily including the display of beauty in everyday life, most of that passion, excitement and exuberance has gone away. I am sure you know this because as the burden of duty takes over, the passion for beauty slowly deteriorates. Exchanging beauty for duty sounds inhumane. But I can assure you it is not as bad it sounds. As I am writing this I am reminded of a quote by Jean de La Fontaine, Patience and time do more than passion. They are perhaps reaching for the golden apple we talked about earlier in the class. So in my opinion, this foolish desire for passion and always wanting more necessitates the importance of having principles and values to guide us in life. The book shows this in the form of duty through the character and actions of Aeneas, who gives up everything in exchange for duty because he believes that it is what will bring him long lasting happiness and contentment. In the Aeneid, duty, responsibility, and reason triumph over passion, desire, and beauty. This is shown in Book II, where Aeneas focuses more on his duty than Dido as they flee the city, and also in Book IV, where Aeneas controls his feelings for Dido just so he can fulfil his duty. The problems arising from factory farms are only getting bigger and more disastrous to the environment. These farms raise hundreds or thousands of animals in close confinement; otherwise know as concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFOs. Large CAFOs are controlled under federal and state pollution regulations because they produce massive quantities of animal waste that can pose environmental and heath hazards if mishandled (Weeks, 3). So why would farmers be farming this way it is so dangerous? The answer is simple; these farms can produce large quantities of food cheaply. If a farm can produce more hogs or calves, its profit is larger. In order for farmers to stay on their land, they are forced into poorly paid off farm employment (Food). Livestock farmers are told that they must adopt the new industrial technologies that make CAFO s feasible, if they expect to have a future in farming (Kallen, 64). The byproducts of such farms are producing harmful odors. The runoff from these farms pollutes streams and groundwater with antibiotics, insecticides, pathogens and emits poisonous gases that are hazardous and create offensive odors (Weeks, 2). As professional caregivers, nurses are required to communicate with patients to assess, diagnose and provide interventions that result in desirable outcomes. An ever changing cultural and spiritual population is a hallmark of the US identity since its inception two and a half centuries ago. This poses a challenge for nurses who must be able to quickly and accurately identify client needs and provide appropriate care. Language differences are a natural barrier to communication, as are cultural differences in body language, communication styles and cultural beliefs. People whose culturediffers from the nurse may have different views about overall health and well being, choices for interventions, responses to pain and opinions about death and life prolonging care. Nurses must be open to differences in cultural beliefs and educate themselves about the diversity in their area to best meet the needs of the community. It is important, however, that a well intentioned desire to achieve cultural competence does not result in oversimplification and stereotyping. There is variation within cultural groups and uniqueness to individual experiences that must also be considered. Nurses must aspire to respect differences in culture and treat patients in a manner that instills trust. The Portuguese travelers were amazed by its size and recorded their thoughts in a diary stating, this noble river had determined to try its strengths in pitched battle with the ocean itself. In more serious parts of his argument, Hochschild used the European sources to prove his thesis. For example, on page 166, the author quoted a Catholic priest who recorded the calamities that King Leopold s men did in his name in Africa. The priest related the story of how a state official named LГ©on FiГ©vez terrorized African villagers by killing a few men (severing the head or cutting the hands of Africans) to make an example out of them. FiГ©vez s terror was so impressive that even a Force Publique officer quoted him saying My goal is ultimately humanitarian. I killed a hundred people...but that allowed five hundred others to live. Hochschild heavily relied on European sources to prove his point for both simple and serious matters. The priest described how All the blacks saw this man as the Devil of the Equator. In fact, humans spend on average approximately one third of their lives asleep (Colten and Altevogt, 2006). With such devotion of time resources and the his tells us, from an evolutionary standpoint, that sleep is an important part of the success of an animal. But what fitness does sleep confer to an organism? Although sleep occurs across many species of animals, the function of sleep behavior is not fully understood. Studies might suggest that this behavior might play a role in several important processes, such as the regeneration of tissue and energy management (Sara, 2017, Rasch and Born, 2013). In one such study, eye movements, recorded by electrooculograms (EOG) correlated with the brain activity in electroencephalograms(EEGs) as well as respiratory rate, indicating the existence of distinct sleep states which were not randomly generated (Aserinsky and Klietman, 1953). The discovery of distinct states showed sleep was not just a passive behavior. Instead, it consists of three to four distinct states as well as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, each with their own unique brain activity. While REM sleep has been in the scientific spotlight since its discovery for its role in consolidation of emotional memory (Sara, 2017), recently more studies have begun to focus on the role of slow wave sleep. Slow wave sleep (SWS) encompasses the stage 3 4 subset of non REM sleep and is characterized by delta waves that consist of slow oscillations of activity. This type of sleep occurs primarily at the onset of sleep and time spent in SWS declines in humans as aging occurs. SWS seems to be most important in the consolidation phase, though the mechanisms of this consolidation are still being explored in the scientific community. However, the method of this memory consolidation is currently a subject of hot debate. What caused scientists to link memory and sleep, particularly SWS? An example of this is when a country is caught in a death spiral they are stuck in a taxes spending debt cycle. When a country spends more than it takes in (tax revenue) debt is incurred. Debt can be a healthy sign, like a company that wants to buy another truck to be able to meet its requests for more services. However, when a country takes on too much debt, investors start to lose trust in that country s ability to pay its debt, so in order to get more funds, the creditors raise the interest rate, thereby increasing its debt; and higher debt leads to lack of investor trust which leads to higher interest rates, increasing the debt. (Khanacademyorg, 2012) And the death spiral begins. As with an individual, when they get a pay raise, they can afford the new debt. With a country, they must raise the taxes. If the citizens are not growing financially as a whole (Gross Domestic Product (GDP) the broadest quantitative measure of a nation s total economic activity (Investinganswerscom, 2016)), then the ability of the country to raise taxes safely becomes problematic. Thus, the well being of the individuals of a society help that country to grow. In other words, in 1776, Adam Smith called this being led by an invisible hand (Smith, Cannan, 1904). The value of life comes not from the monetary valuedeemed appropriate by society, the power one wields or the situation an individual finds themselves born into, but rather exists just as simply as humanity itself; there is no price tag on what one can contribute to the world. After analysing the financial statements of Home Depot, we have allocated a C rating of credit risk. Home Depot has a current ratio of 1.19 to 1 which means that it s current assets covers it s current liabilities by 1.19 times. The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life. Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulfis made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs, when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty. When, in all reality, their search for independence led to the abolishment of the freedom of the Native Americans. Instead of placing light onto this subject, it is swept under the rug in schools across America today. I believe that the way the American government chose to gain territory was selfish and ignorant and led to the loss of many cultures and precious lives. Some of the ways this happened was by the removal of rights, battles, untruthful treaties, and confiscation of land. In many ways American history books and movies portray Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, and President Van Buren to be American heroes, but these so called heroes are actually murderers, thieves, and liars. Agent BE believes in his emotions Are Agents CA and CE not on equal footing with agents BA and BE as regards ethics, for better or worse? Apparently not. There is widespread dislike of Agent CE as a hypocrite, an accusation rarely hurled against Agents CA, BA, or BE. Agent CE is in a bind: if he responds as society dictates, he is a hypocrite; and if he does not, he is a misfit or (in extreme situations) a psychopath . Agent CE has been trained in the sense that he knows what is expected of him, and does it; and his motives are those of prudence. However,
