Through Deaf Eyes Review Essay
In Through Deaf Eyes you will find a range of perspective on the question what is deafness? This
film is a balanced presentation of deaf experience. I believe that the film does a good job of
revealing the struggles and triumphs of deaf people in society throughout history. The
documentary covers a span of close to 200 years of deaf life in the United States. You will see
experiences among deaf people in education, family life, work, and social activities. Sign language
is language that uses visual hand patterns to convey a meaning without using any vocal. It truly is a
superb way of communication, although it was not always accepted in society. Wherever
communities of deaf people exist, sign language develops. There was no... Show more content on

I wasn t expecting that. After viewing the movie I understand better now why even if some deaf
people can use their voices, they don t because it seems like it would lead to a one way
conversation. Although the hearing person would understand what the deaf person was
conveying, the deaf person would not be able to understand the hearing person without lip
reading or using sign language. I laughed at the part of the movie where the deaf comedian was
talking about an incident that he had while driving a car. A man was aggressively driving and
beeping at the deaf man driving his car. When this man passed the deaf man, he said, What are
you deaf? The deaf man who spoke and signed telling the story said he drove up to him and said,
Yes, I am deaf! Although I laughed, it is offensive to the deaf individuals using the word deaf in
such a negative way. People who are hard of hearing are people and should be esteemed as such.
Deaf people living in a hearing world have certainly made their mark in the hearing community.
Deaf people can do anything that hearing people can do. The band shown in the film called
Beethoven s Nightmare caused quite a stir in our class. I think that we were simply amazed that
deaf musicians could play so well. By showing the audience this experience, it provides hearing
viewers with the knowledge that this type of event does occur within the deaf community and that
the deaf can appreciate

Annotated Bibliography Summary
This annotated bibliography focuses on the traditional Southeast Asian healing technique known as
coin rubbing. The term coin rubbing goes by different variations of names in each different region
using the healing technique and although they have different names, the healing technique works
the exactly the same in all regions to mostly treat headaches, flu, colds, and relief pains and
symptoms. The most common name can be found in literature are Cao gio, Gua sha, Beating the
wind, or Scarping/Scratching the wind. Although, Cao gio has been found on case reports in
Western literature, there are no data or studies to prove the physiological effects of the therapeutic
therapy. Therefore, this annotated bibliography will explore the culture beliefs... Show more content

Parents are being wrongfully accused and trail for abusing their children when they have
attempted to use traditional healing techniques on their sick kids. Many Americans are alarm to
find the folk remedy to appear harsh, abusive, and hurtful, but are unaware that the healing
practice cures a particular sickness or disease and pain like a child common cold, stomach
problems, or a little headache. This book relates to my topic because it is found that more and
more people are now not using cao gio when they live in western society in fear that they might go
to jail and at the same time, they are not seeking other health care because they re not familiar to
the western health care system, especially to those who newly immigrated into the country. In the
article by Davis, Ruth E, the author suggest that physicians, doctors, as well as teachers, friends,
and neighbor should have knowledge of these cultural practices to be culturally aware of cao gio,
rather than pointing fingers of bad parenting which then takes it to far, tears the family apart, and
would only be hurting the kids

Quiet Girl Monologue
For a while, my life was full of fear. I was afraid of not being accepted for who I was. As a result
of that, I learned to make myself invisible to unwanted attention. I suppose you could say I would
hide amongst the shadows. To my friends, I was one person, but to others, I was the quiet girl
just the quiet girl, and I hated it. I wanted to be more than that and to do that I needed to be
anyone but me. To make that change I decided I would start by starting a conversation with a
stranger. After a few days of putting my plan on my opportunity finally came. I was at the
library looking for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. While I was searching for the
book, I noticed a girl about my age standing a few feet away. With an immediate boost of
confidence, I walk towards the brunette. Unfortunately, that courage seemed to disappear as
quickly as it came and I ended up mumbling something that sounded gibberish and walked away
as fast as I could. I remember feeling my face heat up and glancing down at my trembling hands.
At that point, I did not know what made me more upset the fact that I could not bring myself to
talk to someone or the fact that I forgot my book. Days passed since that dreadful incident, and my
hopes of being known for something other than a quiet girl disappeared that is... Show more content

The Black Scholes Option Pricing Theory

My uncle in law is Portuguese who has been living in Macao for more than 20 years. Recently he
plans to go back to Portugal after his retirement. Portugal has been in deep recession for 5 years
and is the third European country to need a bail out. After noticing the default crisis in Greece
and Argentina, he is worried about Portugal will default very soon under the impact of European
sovereign credit crisis. Therefore I want to use my knowledge gained in this year to solve his
puzzle. Regarding that my uncle in law does not have strong econometric knowledge, simple

In order to calculate the sovereign probability of default, Gray et al (2007) suggests a sovereign
capital structure which simply use the information from the sovereign balance sheet and apply the
Merton Model for the estimation of sovereign asset and volatility. It has been proved by Sy Hoa

Netherlands case.
In Figure 1, the 5 YR CDS shows high bp starting from late 2009 to late 2012 and a gradually

The Shift from Fordism to Post-Fordism and Possible Future...
The Shift from Fordism to Post Fordism and Possible Future Routes for Capitalist Organization
Capitalism continues to be a revolutionary form of social organization. Modes of production, the
ordering of daily activities, and the material practices and processes of social reproduction have
undergone numerous changes since capitalism s inception. Mapping a history of capitalism s
different stages and forms both social and institutional would be an arduous task, complicated by
the fact that in each of capitalism s stages, features and characteristics of past and future stages
abound. Nevertheless, the current form of capitalism marks a unique departure from previous
stages. Euphemisms and catchphrases concerning late 20th ... Show more content on

In this sense, a regime of accumulation refers to the stabilization over a long period of the
allocation of the net product between consumption and accumulation; it implies some
correspondence between the transformation of both the conditions of production and the conditions
of reproductive wage earners. This must entail the formation of a knowable and predictable
configuration of norms, habits, laws, regulating networks and so on that ensure the unity of the
process, i.e. the appropriate consistency of individual behaviors with the schema of reproduction.
This task of regulating and ensuring the sustainability of the regime of accumulation is the mode of
social and political regulation.
The regime of accumulation under Fordism relied on the link between mass production and mass
consumption. In order to fuel the cycle of economic activity, wages had to be sufficiently high to
support mass consumption. This mass consumption drove demand and productive activity for
firms, which were afforded profits used to reinvest in productive ventures. This virtuous cycle of
cumulative economic activity was thought to perpetuate itself indefinitely once full employment
was realized.
The purpose of the state under Fordism was to stabilize the free market s inherent crisis tendencies.
The obligations of the state in this form of capitalist organization were

Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar
In the year 2009, James Cameron wrote and directed one of the most remarkable films I have
ever seen Avatar . This science fiction saga has a story line that is engaging and captivating for
its audience. Avatar took place on a moon called Pandora. Humans discovered very valuable
natural resources on Pandora and did whatever it took to obtain what they needed from Pandora.
The people of Pandora are Na vi s, a 10 foot tall, blue skinned humanoid alien group that lived in
the rainforest or Pandora. The Humans found a way to interact with the Na vi s by artificial yet
organic avatars that were controlled with a human mind and conscience. Jake Sully, a paraplegic
marine who was given the task to manipulate the Na vi s into leaving their home. Sully entered...

direction. Which sucks, for them, because they need to relocate . This cruel words shows
imperialism. Avatars imperialism in the movie and the world s history of imperialism have many
similarities. People with more military or power tend to destroy people who have less power for
self gain. Imperialism is the advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation by
gaining indirect control over the economic life. There are many times in history were natives of a
country have been imperialized by a foreign country for their land resources, this happened in the
Avatar movie. Africa was imperialized by the Great Britain to conquer new lands for Brits to settle
like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the American colonies. They imperialized them to get the
wealth of their lands. Diamonds and gold in South Africa and ivory from Kenya. To open up trade
routes, to get goods etc. This was why they were imperialized. The humans in the Avatar wanted to
obtain unobtainium which lied beneath the home tree to save from energy

My Online Shopping Experience On Why Individuals Are Not...
An essay based on my online shopping experience on why individuals are not rational
Introduction
The essay will from my example show that individual including myself are not rational when
making decisions. I will be using a diverse range of theories from the standard economic model to
explain how the decision made during these experiences showed a rational behaviour and how it
violates the standard economic model. Behavioural Economics according to is the combination of
psychology and economics that investigates what happens in markets in which some of the agents
display human limitations and complications. The major theories that I will be discussing for the
standard economic model will be (Smith, 1976. Schiffman, 2007. Lowenstein et al, 1991) to
understand the economic model and its assumptions on individual rationality. Behavioural
economics theory helped explains my observation from my online shopping experience and
irrationality of individuals when it involves decision making.
Main body
Standard economic theory assumes that people are rational, act based on full information have
stable preferences and always maximize utility. The main accomplishment of Smith was to put
forward as the central theme of economics the logical analysis of the behaviour of individual agents
pursuing their self interest under conditions of competition (Smith. 1976). The standard economic
model assumes that people are perfectly rational, maximising decision makers when faced with a
problem

The Pros And Cons Of Space Exploration
Space exploration has exploded in the past 56 years. From the first successful satellite mission in
1961, to the first mission space walk in 1969 a to the first time lettuce was grown and eaten in space
in 2015. These are just the beginning steps towards potential space exploration and advancing
technology to the maximum. Although space explorationis now being emphasized on and invested
in, what does this do to benefit earth or even every individual who lives on Earth? Many writers,
engineers, mathematicians, and chemists can agree that space exploration is going to provide
more research for medicine and environmental factors. Others may also argue that the risks of
exploring another planet will be too damaging because the life or atmosphere as it is will not be
the same after humans have made their print on it. Three main clusters that are developed under
this idea of space exploration is the benefits that are gained, ethical code and what it means with
regard to the future of the humanrace. In this paper I will talk about what major projects are being
worked on and who will benefit from these. This will also include what laws of space are and
ethical code. This will also identify the differing viewpoints on space exploration and whether the
big picture is worth the small steps being taken as to advancements in space technology and
sciences. One large project that is being pursued is colonizing marswith a human population. This
will mold the future and newer generations. It can make us question the future and what lies
ahead. It has been said that it will take no more than 50 years to fulfill the colonization of mars.
Ideas such as colonizing another planet is not unheard of and if humans do not consider the
possible impacts in a new environment, this can be detrimental. The article A NASA Funded
engineer s plan to colonize Mars from CNN was written by Kate Springer in 2017. One
statement that made was, I believe building in space is going to become commonplace in less
than 50 years. There s an abundance of energy and materials (in space) all we have to do is
design self replicating factories and build a lot of objects. In a short time, our capability to
manufacture in space will be many

Examples Of Madness In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Madness and Power in One Flew Over The Cuckoo s nest
Madness and mental illness is one of the most common themes used in literature. Many literary
pieces, both modern and classic, had been focused on this topic, whether to discuss a social
issue, or to criticize a political problem in certain society, or even just to discuss the mental state
of some protagonist or a character. To mention some of these literary pieces, there are Catch 22,
Heart of Darkness, Sophie s Choice, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, and many other great,
unforgettable literary pieces. The focus of this essay is on Ken Kesey s classic One Flew Over the

sanity and individual versus society, which the critics says they are strongly related to each other.
Sometimes the characters are not clinically insane but labeled such because that character does
not follow the rules established by society, as seen in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. Women
were often diagnosed with mental illness labels because they did not follow the accepted gender
role that society has defined. In this quote, Heather Bullis discusses if insanity is really has
something to do with mentality all the time or is it just another stigma to the society. Many other
critics chose to talk and criticize One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest for many reasons, especially
madness, insanity versus sanity, and authority, these are also the main themes of the novel, which

Alexander Mosaic
Discussion of Badian Alexander Mosaic In the section A Note on the Alexander Mosaic Ernst
Badian attempts to give his own interpretation of the Alexander Mosaic. Badian first gives Goethe
s explanation of the mosaic. Goethe believes that Alexander appears as a conqueror while Darius
is in horror. Badian, in this paper, attempts to show that Darius is in the prominent position and
Alexander does not appear a conqueror or a hero. Badian starts his argument by discussing the
similarities of a realistic action painting, like this Mosaic, and a snapshot. This means that the artist
is focusing on one moment in time, and chooses what he wants to show. Badian then start to talk
about the mosaic. He shows how the movement is from right to left, or... Show more content on

Darius is taller than everyone else and learns forward towards the enemy. The horror on his face
is from his seeing the sacrifice his noble made for him. Alexander, however, cannot seem to be
able to control his horse and his helmet has fallen off. This makes him appear as unheroic. The
tree in the mosaic is another piece of Baldin s argument. In order for Darius to use his cavalry,
Darius cleared the ground of the battlefield. This means the tree in the composition was obvious
added by the artists and therefore must have a meaning. One interpretation Baldin gives is that
the tree signifies the destruction of Alexander s wars. Badian ends by discussing the artist. He
identifies the commissioner as Cassander, a King of Macadoia from 305 297 BC, and who
Alexander treated poorly. Badian believes this poor treatment caused Cassander to have a bias
while commissioning the mosaic. Therefore, he wanted a piece that did not glorify Alexander, even
if he won every war against the persians. Finally, this explains why the mosaic show a time when
the Persians are dominating the action and while Alexander looks unheroic, even though Alexander

Quality of Work Life Ethics and QWL are two interlinked work environment factors in
enterprises. QWL is the perceptions to which the business meets the full scale of employees
needs for their well being at work. The QWL are of two categories, lower order and higher order.
Fig 1. depicts the conceptual model of the QWL. This is very essential for continuous attraction of
human resource and also to retain the current work force. Regardless, many of the employees are
experiencing dissatisfaction towards work and the work place. Loss of interest, drop in production,
low employee morale etc. all leading to the overall drop in operations. Similarly, while at work, we

George Washington, John Adams, And Thomas Jefferson
George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. Not only is this a list of US Presidents
but it is also a list of three of the most well known Founding Fathers. Yes, they have their reasons to
be because each one of them have numerous achievements and have accomplished many things that
others have not. But one Founding Father often over looked, and not just because he stands five
feet four inches tall, is James Madison. With all due respect, James Madison has accomplishments
that stand just as well against the test of time. James Madison to me is one of the most important
Founding Fathers. Please allow me to explain why I chose Mr. James Madison, the background and
upbringing of him, some of his most notable contributions to the Unites States and why those
contributions are still important today.
The reason I chose James Madison over the rest of the Founding Fathers is because I believe he
isn t as well known as he should be and with that being said, would like to inform you about him.
Madison has accomplished many great things in his life that have had an effect on the United States
as we know it today. Undoubtedly the biggest contribution that Madison made to the United States
of America was the he was the author of the draft that was used to create the Constitution and
without the constitution there really wouldn t be a frame of government. Another reason I chose
James Madison is because he fought for religious freedom, believing it was an individual s right

Teaching Grammar In Context Essay
The study of grammar all by itself would not necessarily make the learner a better writer or
speaker. However, by gaining a clearer understanding of how the language works, the learner
should be able to gain greater control over the way he shapes words into sentences and sentences
into paragraphs. In short, studying grammar may help learners to perceive the structures of the
language effectively.
Larsen Freeman (2001) as cited in Mart (2013), describes grammar as a system of meaningful
structures and patterns that are governed by particular pragmatic constraints. This clearly indicates
that grammar plays a crucial role in learning the target language. Grammar instruction is one of the
most difficult issues that people have encountered in language learning and teaching. Therefore, the
best way to overcome this issue is by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Mart (2013), It will be more motivating for learners if grammar is taught in context
as they will have an opportunity to perceive how the new grammar structures work. In my point of
view, I strongly agree with this statement saying that grammar should be taught in context. For
instance, as a learner, I also prefer the context based method as it is much easier for me to
understand the concept of the grammar itself.
Teaching grammar in isolated sentences is not going to help the learners because they cannot see
the relationship between the grammatical concepts through a logical context. It was mentioned in
the article that teaching grammar in context provides a meaningful framework that connects to
reality in the targeted language (Anderson, 2005). This concludes that teaching grammar in context
is very helpful in developing the learners comprehension of the grammatical

Gender and Advertising
How Gender Shapes Meaning
The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says, It s

Shirley Chisholm
Men are dogs and women are cats. Women are from Venus and men are from Mars. Writers,
filmmakers, psychologists, and advertisers all have used the idea that men and women are
different to develop stories, create conflict, and provide persuasive imagery. Not only do advertisers
view men and women differently, but men and women also bring different perspectives to
advertising. Thus, we can assume that men and women create dif ferent meanings from the

Once the meaning from an advertisement has been determined, men and women differ in how that
meaning is used. These different decision making processes are related to whether the process is
linear or more nonlinear in nature. Men process messages and make decisions more quickly than
women do, perhaps because men focus on the primary mes sage of a given advertisement and take
in little other information during the process. This is due to the observation that men have a linear
thinking and reasoning style, and men tend to have a more task oriented focus than women have.
Women, on the other hand, process the information in an advertisement quickly and from many
levels and sources, including music, visuals, voice over, and text. Women also tend to evaluate and
weigh the various sources to process the message and determine what steps to take next. Women s
reasoning processes are less task oriented and more compartmentalized than men s are. Women s
decision making processes are characterized as being incremental reasoning processes, where each
piece of information builds on the previous information that is taken in. This non linear approach to
reasoning allows women to think in terms of interrelated factors, not straight lines. The observation
that women evaluate multiple sources supports this reason ing style (Fisher, 1999).

Vengeful = Villain Revenge has existed for a long time. A vengeful character is often portrayed
as the villain which therefore makes a revenge seem evil, but many authors tend to use revenge
in books as a way to surprise the reader. Two short stories that feature the theme of revenge are ,
The Cask Of Amontillado (CA) by Edgar Allen Poe and Sredni Vashtar (SV) by H.H Munro
(Saki). In CA the character s revenge was motivated by Fortunato using acts of derision on the
main character in the past, while in Sredni Vashtar Conradin s revenge is motivated by Mrs. De

Sredni Vashtar is about Conradi and his sour cousin named Mrs. De Ropp who both hate each

disliked Conradin, though she might have been dimly aware that thwarting him for his good
was a duty which she did not find particularly irksome. (1) In this statement, we find out that Ms.
De Ropp finds it enjoyable to beat Conradin but won t admit it to herself that she does. Conradin
justifiably hates her and knows it in his heart. We see this when the narrator states Conradin
hated her with a desperate sincerity which he was perfectly able to mask (1). Conradin s only

praises and worships a large polecat ferret. The cousin is often wonders where he is when he is

Justice Is Thrasymachus The Stronger
At the beginning of the debate on what justice is; Thrasymachus shoves himself into the dialogue
to say that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger (Plato 14 [I]). In the state, a
ruler is considered the stronger, therefore what is advantageous to them is just. The laws made to
be beneficial to the ruler are just, so it is just for their subjects to follow these rules and if they
disobey it is considered unjust. This can be said since we can assume that the ruler is the strongest
in any situation. When asked if rulers can make mistakes, Thrasymachus agrees. In relation to the
last statement, if a ruler was to create a law in error, hence the law is disadvantageous to the ruler,
and the subjects followed this law, justiceis served on one part. However, since the law is
disadvantageous to the ruler, it would be unjust. The other interlocutors interpret Thrasymachus
statement to mean that what is just is what the ruler believes to be advantageous to themselves
since it was agreed upon that the ruler of the state is the stronger. Thrasymachus, angry with this
conclusion, clarifies his agreement to: A ruler, insofar as he is a ruler, never makes errors and
unerringly decrees what is best for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on his view of justice, injustice rules the truly simple and just, and those it rules do what is
to the advantage of the other and stronger, and they make the one they serve happy, but themselves
not at all (Plato 19 [I]). Thrasymachus stands to say that injustice commands the weak who obey
and serve and benefit the stronger, while they do not benefit at all. Injustice serves those who are
unjust, while those who just do not benefit from being just. He concludes, therefore, that it is more
favorable to be unjust, rather than just. This stands to question why the weaker would be just if
they do not profit from

Fishing in the North Atlantic Essay example
Fishing in the North Atlantic
Abstract Ocean fishes have been consumed by humans beyond their maximum sustainable yields
for years and the Atlantic cod and squid are two examples. Cods were primarily overfished to
commercial extinction. Other variables were also examined to see if they contribute to the
declining population. Water temperature was the natural phenomenon that may be responsible for
poor egg hatching. Human causes such as increased UV radiation from depleted ozone and bottom
trawling disturbance were considered. Trawling disturbance had the worst effect while the other
factors were questionable. As the cod vanished, the commercial fisher turned to squid to continue
their way of life. Government policy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a first world country, we consume a first class quantity of seafood as well. Overfishing of marine
resources jeopardizes not just our existence, but they are also vital in supporting various
ecosystems. In this paper, a number of research articles and other review articles were examined to
compose a picture of the overfishing crisis. The recent developments of Atlantic cod and squid are
discussed in more detail to provide a pattern that may lead to empty oceans in the future.
Accounting for fish in the ocean.
There are many methods to account for the number of fish in the ocean. However, there are many
uncertainties within any models of assessment. The reliability of instruments and the weather
condition during survey have great influence over the results (Smith and Gavaris, 1993). The
mathematics involved and the interpretation of the numbers is very difficult to comprehend and are
beyond the scope of this paper. However, in one 1997 journal article, C. J. Corkett criticized the
commonly used Graham Schaeder model of fish accounting. In general, he discredited the
interpretation of the data because of the instrumentalist approach used by many fishery
managements. Instrumentalism is defined in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English
Language as a pragmatic theory that ideas are instruments that function as guides of action, their
validity being determined by the success of the action. The raw data that

She plans her dinner parties very carefully ensuring that every invitee knows half of the list. This
creates a comfortable but also beneficial environment for all her attendees.
The main challenge Heidi faces in her way of networking is the resourcing. As Heidi s fundamental
success is based on performance and consistency, the time needed for Roizen to respond back at a
consistent time become overwhelming the more her network expands. In order to combat this,
Heidi has evolved to build network in the nuclei of other networks. She realized that like her, there
are many other people who have strong networking abilities. This enables her to only maintain those
connections and offload the ever increase of work that comes with networking.
Heidi s networking strategy with the New Valley Girls have many similarities but also many
differences. The similarities are the social events that Heidi holds in her households which attract
the A List of Silicon Valleyand providing a platform for these successful people to liaise out of the
business environment. Many of the New Valley Girls are also very powerful and well connected.
The main difference is Heidi s strategy does not only involve powerful people, she also maintains
her relationship with unknowns and upcoming entrepreneurs as she understands you never know

Speech On Birth Control Pills
In 1950, Gregory Pincus and John Rock developed the first birth control pill. The pill is made of
synthetic hormones like the ones that occur naturally in your body. Women can regulate their
cycle, manage family size, and reduce the risk of ovarian cancer with the birth control pill.
Before safe and effective contraception was developed women in ancient times used their own
forms of barriers to prevent pregnancy. These included potions, charms, herbal recipes, and
chants. These recipes were mostly made of harsh materials that killed many women trying to
control their fertility. Later birth control developments were based on more accurate information
concerning conception says essayempire.com. According to kidshealth.org, the birth control pill
is a daily pill that contains hormones to change the body in order to prevent pregnancy. The
hormones in the pill, estrogen and progestin, control the ovaries and the uterus. The pill prevents
pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening the mucus around the cervix, and thinning the
lining of the uterus. Birth control pills come in either a twenty one day pack or a twenty eight
day pack. One pill is taken each day around the same time for twenty one days. Depending on the
pack a woman is prescribed, she will either stop taking birth control pills for seven days or will take
a pill that contains no hormones for seven days. During those seven days a woman will get her
period. There are two different kinds of pills. The

The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty
Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death
penalty for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay
the same throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their
group split in to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public
executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and
finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history.
The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It
leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on
the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crimeto deserve the
sentence. It takes removes this mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not
have a consequence for the actions they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard,
holding the public to a line they know not to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in
the prisonsystem would decrease. This will also free up taxpayers money for other things like
education, medical, security, and paying off the national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to
the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances of the victim. This type of execution would give
everyone the benefit of seeing

INTRODUCTION
Swarm robotics is the new approach to the coordination of multi robot systems that consists of
many relatively smaller robots. The inspiration of this is the social behaviour of many animals and
insects like ants, geese etc. the terms Swarm Intelligence refers to the collective behaviour that is
the outcome of the work of the smaller individuals, each acting autonomously. Swarm intelligence
is a property of systems of non intelligent exhibiting a collectively intelligent behaviour.
Since the 1980 s, swarm robotics has become a major area of research. As new solution approaches
are being developed and validated, it is often possible to realize the advantages of swarm robotic
systems.

Essay on Legalization of Marijuana
Legalization of Marijuana
One debate that keeps coming up time and again is the topic of the legalization of marijuana.
Marijuana is the most widely used illegal drug.
Nearly one in three teenagers have at least tried marijuana by the time they graduate high school. It
is also gets the most publicity for its legalization.
Over thirty pro legalization organizations have been displayed on the Internet alone. The
legalization of marijuana , although popular by today s drug culture, would be a very dangerous and

This causes the decrease in communication through out a house hold. Communication is what keep
a family close and involved in each other s life.
The effects of marijuana and other drugs destroys families enough now, but if it were to become
legal then that number would raise and so would the number of broken homes. We are at a time
when our family structure has already been destroy and where we should be working to rebuild that
important aspect of life.
Legalizing marijuana would not be the way to do that.
Marijuana is famous for making a person lazy and lackadaisical. We are a point in our country
when we have the most amount of unemployment. When already thousands of people are happy
living off welfare, we want to make people even lazier? This is not to say that all people that are
unemployed are lazy or smoke pot for that matter, but if people were more lazy then we already
are, it could only mean bad things for the development of our country. In an age of technological
advancements, why slow down progress with pot?
Although it could be argued that marijuana should be legal for everyone to have, the argument
loses to the hard core facts that can be seen be common sense. Marijuana is a drug that remains
illegal. Users can continue to buy it on the streets, where it belongs. Prohibition is something that
should remain for the good of the

The Transcontinental Railroad And The Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad Amid the 1800 s, America was experiencing a period of
development known as the Industrial Revolution. America was in its first century of being an
autonomous and creative nation. One of the greatest commitments to this huge innovative
progression was the foundation of the Transcontinental Railroad. The westward expansion designed
to be the key to a nation building project and a change for the United States.[1] The Pacific
Railroads cleared the path in which built the remaining railroad tracks connecting the West to the
Midwest and East. The Union Pacific Company built from Omaha, Nebraska towards the west
meeting up with the Central Pacific Company who started building from Sacramento, California.[2]

Once the Gold Rush fizzled out, there was no more work for the people who were trying to live
the way they expected to. In January of 1863, work finally started on the Central Pacific railroad
line, the individuals who have settled in the West now assembled the railways.
Nevertheless, the railways helped the United States financially and it represented the lift in global
and mainland exchange. The exchange of merchandise was presently less demanding and
substantially faster than the customary method for secured wagons. Merchandise brought into the
United States internationally on the West coast could get to the East Coast quicker and more
proficient. This preferred approach for transporting merchandise extended markets and took into
account less expensive conveyance, and expanded potential outcomes of new associates and ideas
in business. Thus, becoming an expedient and productive approach to transporting goods in the
economy. Socially, the Transcontinental Railroad enormously affected the United States. Once the
railroad completed in 1869, traveling anywhere was less demanding and more affordable. Before
finishing the railroad, going across country took half a year or longer, and cost around one
thousand dollars. After the completion of the railroad, traveling across the nation cost nearly one
hundred and fifty dollars and travel time was close to seven days.[4] Since there was

America Must Be A Civil War Against Our Democratic Government
Yglesia is illustrating that America will crumble down at some point. With all the social, and
political issues facing our society, I agree with his statement. I believe that there would be a civil
war against our democratic government. The government members take advantage of their power
in some situations. Some concepts should be altered. Most people are starting to notice the
unfairness and somewhat corrupt actions governmenttakes. The process as to vote for laws or
presidents in this country and others are not the most thoughtful and reasonable procedures. For
example, if deadlocks were removed from our democracy, it would be a better system. My two
examples on this subject are the immigration law by Obama and the Honduran President Zelaya
trying to alter the constitution. Gridlocks are illustrated in the article as a cause on why the
democratic government is unfair. Gridlocks is a an argument or proposed law ending in no
decision. Gridlocking happens constantly in our government. An example given was the
immigration law, which was not passed. Obama wanted to grant illegal immigrants access to
programs in which they can become legalized, if they had been in U.S over a period of time and
have children that are citizen or permanent resident. This action was taken to minimize deportation
of parents and families. This law was not passed. President Obama blamed the 4 4 court deadlock

greatest literature about tales of a great king. The Epic of Gilgamesh served to show us a lot of
things. The time period of BCE is very blurry, and this story attempts to describe many different
things in not only Sumerian beliefs, but also Sumerian s culture as a whole. Like many stories from
BCE the truth itself is questionable, even though a lot of the information is fact. The factual
information that Gilgamesh teaches us about Sumerian Civilization is that had had many craftsman

This is proof of the Sumerian architectural abilities. The architecture in Mesopotamia are
considered to have been contemporary with the founding of the Sumerian cities, but there was
some complexity in the architectural design during this Protoliterate period (c. 3400 c. 2900 BC).
This is shown in the design of many religious buildings. Typical temples of the Protoliterate period
both the platform type and the type built at ground level are, however, much more elaborate both in
planning and ornament. The interior was decorated with cones sunk into the wall, covered in
bronze. Most cities were simple in structure, but the ziggurat was one of the world s first complex
architectural structures. The Sumerian temples, called ziggurats was a small brick house that the
god was supposed to visit periodically. This house, however, was set on a brick platform, which
became larger and taller as time progressed. Along with showing many types of Sumerian
craftsmanship, the epic shows the strong belief in many gods. All through out the story Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh being created by them. When the Gods created him they gave him a perfect

Anterograde Amnesia
List and explain the different classifications of Amnesias?
The majority of us have an idea of what amnesia is. Although, it s probably a Hollywood
stereotype we ve seen in movies. Amnesias is a general term for a condition in which an
individual loses their capacity to remember or review data that is stored in their memory or create
new memories.
There are two main dimensions of amnesias. The first cause is physical or psychological; the
second proceeds or follows a traumatic event. Most amnesia is a result either from organic or
neurological causes (damage to the brain through physical injury, neurological disease or the use
of certain drugs), The seriousness of the amnesia depends on the areas in which the brain is
damaged. The second dimension is the dichotomy between forgetting the past versus an inability to
form new memories. Terry, W. Scott. Learning and memory: basic principles, processes, and
procedures. Boston, MA: Pearson, 2009. Print. Retrograde amnesia is not being able to remember

Blessed Unrest Chapter Summary
In his esteemed novel, Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Movement in the World Came into Being

both writer and entrepreneur dedicated to our world s ecosystems, Hawken seems to understand the
impact we have created on our planet. Despite this, he also appreciates the human capacity to create
an equal impact on the other end, and make positive progress. He defines this as the Movement,
being an assembly of environmentally minded groups and NGO s coming together to save the
dying ecosystems of the planet. Although Hawken s optimism should be admired, his outlook
seems slightly quixotic. Behind what most may label as unrealistic, however, seems to always be

Jacob Stevens Essay
Jacob Stevens was a typical tall and muscular 18 year old student who seemed frightening for
your first impression, but actually is warm hearted and sweet. Coming from a poor background,
his family did not have enough money to buy him toys or games. So instead, he went out with his
friends, and this is how he developed his love for baseball.
One day while out playing with his friends in the field, a scout who had been passing by offered
him a scholarship to Boston College. As the first in his family to get a post secondary education, his
family was very proud of him because after all his hard work he has put into sports, it finally paid
off. This scholarship changed Jacob s life since he had to leave his friends and family behind. Jacob

Jacob calmly says that Living on my own was really hard since there was no one there to help
me. During my freshman year of college I remembered the time that I almost burned down the
house forgetting the stove was on in the morning since there was no one around to remind me.
This disaster helped Jacob learn to be aware of his surroundings. Another disaster that leads
Jacob, to whom he is today was that he stopped his friend, Pete from doing harmful drugs that
would lead to suicide. One day Jacob was coming back from his classes and he noticed Pete
passed out on the couch next to a table that had a syringe that suggested Pete was doing drugs,
Jacob called the ambulance and soon as he could and they arrived just in time to save Pete, he then
spoke to Pete about it afterwards and convinced Pete to get help.
When he was asked what was his favorite feature about college was, Jacob answered being able
to make his own timetable. Being able to make his own timetable allowed Jacob to hang out
with his friends, sleep late, and most importantly being able to stop his habit of procrastinating.
In high school Jacob would always do homework the morning the paper was due and never ever
study. Jacob was worried at one point of his career when the coach angrily said If you don t bring

Black rock, Nick Enright Essay
Today I ll be talking about the play Blackrock that I ve been studying in class this term, the purpose
of this speech is to make us think how Australian drama challenges us to think about Australian
culture and identity, and the impacts it can have on us as person and as a community.
Guys stick up for their mates no matter what
Blackrock is a play written by Nick Enright that provides insight into Australian culture. Through the
violent rape of a teenage girl, the audience is challenged to consider the values and attitudes still
prevalent in Australia today. Enright uses authentic and raw Australian characters to reveal inherent
patriarchal attitudes towards women and the problems with a society that promotes sexual double ...

The boy s in Blackrock often partake in risk taking behaviour in order to gain respect within their
group and this can lead to a detrimental gang mentality. In the third scene Jared reveals to his
friend Rachel why he is so loyal to his good friend Ricko. He s been my mate since forever... he
says, with the use of emotive dialogue and colloquial language. The authenticity conveyed
through the emotive and colloquial language shows the seemingly positive impact that Ricko
has had on Jared. After his Dad split he didn t have a male role model and was what he called a
total fuck up or someone to guide him in the hyper masculine world. He found security in Ricko
and in return Jared defends Ricko at all costs, this shows the encouraging aspects of mateship,
where boys can find sense of belonging in their friendships. However, Jared s idealisation of Ricko
blinds him to the realities of his aggressive personality.
The impact of mateship and how easy it is for somebody to be pressured into doing something
just to fit in is highlighted in scene six. Ricko forces a boy named Toby who has only recently
been fixated into the group into performing the ring of fire as the other Blackrock boys cheer him
on. You re the barbeque, mate. It is shown as a type of initiation for the Blackrock boys; Toby

How Is Sister Carrie Alike
I chose to read Sister Carrie because I thought I could relate to it, Carrie was a small town girl
who left her home to chase her dreams. The novel opens with Carrie on a train leaving her home,
heading to Chicago. Here she meets Drouet, who will be a large part of the novel. Carrie
immediately looks for work when she arrives, and is unsuccessful for a long time until she finds
a low paying job at a shoe factory with awful working conditions. Drouet and Carrie s
relationship begins when he tells Carrie to stop working, and gives her $20 and takes her places.
Drouet introduces Carrie to the rich people s lifestyle, and Carrie becomes involved in theater,
and finds that she has a natural talent and love for it. After a while, Drouet accuses Carrie of
becoming vain, and Carrie begins to fall for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lion Nathan has generated 78% of their total sales revenue from beers. This revenue could be
threatened by the downward sales trend of the beer market in general. Thus cashing in on the
upward trend of premiumisation would be key to the maintenance and growth of the company for

In 2007 majority revenue for the year was generated due to the Power brands , which are Tooheys

The Major Components Of Street Sweeper
In my report, I will be discussing some of the major components of street sweeper and will be
explaining the function of each component. Some of the major features of street sweeper are
Pick Up Head As stated in Key Features (n.d.), street sweeper contains a very sharp feature
which is a pick up head which contains two attractive features in it. One is suction system and
other is air blast. The main motive of these systems is that it helps to remove debris from the
streets. In addition to that, it has another interesting feature in it which is skids that improves
wear life of pick up head (para.1.). Figure 2. Pick Up Head attached to the street sweeper.
Sources: Pick Up Head, n.d. The Pick up head also contains another device which is knows as
BAH that is only preferred during broom assisted sweeping (para.2.). The broom is very long in
size that helps during dust control. It has one positive thing that its pressure can be adjusted
according to our needs that helps to throw dirt from the streets into air. Hopper Hopper has
attractive and good features as compared to the pick up head. It has a smooth dumping system in
it that collects junk from the ground. The main advantage of hopper over pick up head is that it
does not need any telescoping hydraulic cylinders (para.4.) which is used for hoisting,
hydraulically controlled door latch assemblies (para.4.). Figure 3. Opening of Hopper in street

To conduct my research I am first going to decide the purpose of my survey, which is to gain
knowledge of peoples exposure to diversity and how that effects there social interactions on
campus. I will then decide on the question I will ask and the type of question I will choose to use.
For my particular choice of research I will chose to do a combination of open end and multiple
choicequestions. I choose the combination of the two because I would like to be able to get a
more personal response and allow respondents to express their with the use of the open end
questions, and having multiple choice questions just to get a view on how they feel about specific
topics. To help strength my multiple choice answers I will use the lickert Scale because the
structure will give my participants realistic answers to my question but not necessarily put words in
their mouth. I will then decide what to ask in my survey that will give me the answers to my
research question. When coming up with the question I must avoid putting my opinion in the
questions and make sure in my questions the answerthat I am trying to discover is clear.
After coming up with the open end and multiple choice questions, I will then decide the
population that I am going to conduct my research on. After choosing my population I will pick a
large sample group that I will choose to represent my population. After choosing my sample group I

The Enlightened Histori An Article Authored By Jeffrey...
Aregai 1 The Enlightened Archaeologist an article authored by Jeffrey Hantman and Gary Dunham
chronicles Thomas Jefferson s investigation of the Indian burial mound located on the South Fork
of the Rivanna River in the 18th century. The site excavated by Jefferson, however, is no longer
visible, most likely due to dissipation by inevitable natural occurrences (I.E. excessive rainfall,
flooding rivers, etc.) or human activity such as farming. The Father of American Archaeology
correctly predicts the latter in his book, Notes on the State of Virginia, in which he states, mounds
...put under cultivation are much reduced in their height, and spread in width, by the plough, and
will probably disappear in time (1787). Fortunately for Archaeologists of the late 20th century
(1988) an Indian burial mound identical to that of the one Jefferson described in his book was
uncovered just 14 miles from the South Fork of the Rivanna River. The Rapidan mound in spite of
being reduced to its southern edge, provided archaeologists Hantman, Dunham, and colleagues a
unique, yet waning opportunity to record and excavate the quickly abrading site. What they
discovered from their digging surprised them; the content and order within the mound also
resembled Thomas Jefferson s descriptive notes. However, what he noted as the random placement

Persuasive Speech On Tablets Vs Textbooks
In Colby High School, there have been recent studies whether the school should use tablets or
textbooks. In one instance, the teacher is up in front of the class teaching. Half the students are
absorbing the information and giving the teacher all of their attention. The other half just got a
notifications on a game. What choice will the students choose? Listening to the teacher talk about
plant cells or play minecraft. The urge to play a game is more likely of a high schoolstudent. A
school is a learning environment with the access to information on textbooks, not tablets.
Therefore, Colby High School should not change to tablets because they may cause students to
behave badly, contribute to injuries, and create a distraction. To begin, Colby High School should
not use tablets because they cause students to behave badly. Disrespect is not a quality or
something a student should wish for in life. Tablets make students feel as though they are higher up
than their other classmates and even teachers. Nearly в…” of teachers feel students comprehend
and are more engaged when they use paper and absorb more when they are on paper textbooks
(Should tablets). Having a book in a student s hand allows them to participate more in discussions
and actively engages their minds in the subject manner. When a tablet is displayed in front of a
student, there will always be that temptation of the internet. Teachers and parents must make sure
that the tablets are being used responsibly and

Thoreau s Message in Walden Essay
Thoreau s Message in Walden
In Walden, Henry D. Thoreau presented a radical and controversial perspective on society that was
far beyond its time. In a period where growth both economically and territorially was seen as
necessary for the development of a premature country, Thoreau felt the opposite. Thoreauwas a man
in search of growth within himself and was not concerned with outward improvements in him or
society. In the chapter entitled economy, he argued that people were too occupied with work to
truly appreciate what life has to offer. He felt the root of this obsession with work was created
through the misconstrued perception that material needs were a necessity, rather than a hindrance
to true happiness and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since less work was required; people had more time to appreciate nature and thus enjoyed a happier
life.
Thoreau was very doubtful of the ideas that outward improvements could bring improvements to
one s inner peace. One clear illustration of Thoreau s resistance to progress can be found in the
chapter, Sounds, where he voiced his criticism on technological advancements. At first he was
annoyed with the sound created by the passing trains which hindered his ability to hear the
chirping of the birds. As he stated, The whistle of the locomotive penetrates my woods summer
and winter, sounding like the scream of a hawk sailing over some farmer s yard, informing me
that many restless city merchants are arriving within the circle of the town... (78). Trains also
reminded him of the businessman and tradesman involved in manipulation and profits. Thoreau
believed that a technological advancement such as the train would give people a false impression
of heightened freedom, for trains were able to travel to areas never before imagined and in a time
that was thought impossible. He was worried that people would prefer to take the train than the
road less traveled. By taking trains, people missed out on the beauty of nature. Then he realized that
the trains had transported people to many different areas and that it had enabled the people to
experience new things.
Thoreau showed his disapproval

Argumentative Essay On Autism
Giving a speech in front of classmates. Hugging a best friend after a rough day. Changing up the
daily routine at school. These are a few examples of activities most Autistic children consider as
their worst nightmare. Even though a child with Autism could be, and probably is, brilliant, they
find themselves trapped inside. The Autistic Spectrum Disorder, universally known as Autism, is a
disease that causes a child to face mental, physical, and emotional challenges.
A wealth of new brain research is lifting the veil on Autism and revealing its effects on a child`s
mind (Cray and Wallis 43). Neuroscientist Eric Courchesne at Children`s Hospital of San Diego
revealed that while children with autism are born with ordinary size brains, they experience a
rapid expansion by age two (Cray and Wallis 45). Much of this growth is due to the excessive
amount of white matter, the nerve fibers that link different areas of the brain. The abundance of
white matter has led doctors to believe Autism to be a problem with the way the brain is wired.
Marcel Just, director of Carnegie Mellon`s Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, wrote that there is a lack of synchronization between the different areas of the brain
(Cray and Wallis 46). Local areas of the brain, such as the frontal lobes and the amygdala, are over
connected while links between more distant regions, such as the right and left hemispheres, are
poorly connected. One area of the Autistic brain that is enlarged is the amygdala. The amygdala`s
job is to assess threats in the environment or in emotional and social behavior. It could be enlarged
due to the fact that autistic children maintain a high level of anxiety when having to relate to other
people. Another enlarged area of the autistic brain is the hippocampus, an area vital to memory.
Doctors believe the hippocampus is enlarged because an autistic child relies on memory to process
and interpret situations that most people interpret in a different area of the brain. Researchers have
also discovered that autistic brains have chronic inflammation. Amidst these issues Autistic people
have learned to adapt and use their brains in unusual ways. For example, they memorize the
alphabet in

Argumentative Essay On Eating Disorders

if they ever do it may be too late. Eating disorders can kill you and affect other factors of your

If your life is at risk, you may need immediate hospitalization. (Mayo Clinic Staff Paragraph 2).
There is help if someone has an eating disorder even though certain ones may not work for you.
Along with signs and symptoms, there are warning signs that can help detect if someone is likely to
have an eating disorder. A gut feeling may be our truest indicator that something disordered eating
patterns or something else needs our attention, (Stephanie Haines Paragraph 6). If someone is
acting weird and wearing bagging clothes that can be another warning sign. You should talk to the
person who seems suspicious to stop them from risking their lives even more.
However, scientists are also involved with helping those with eating disorders such as anorexia. As
of right now, they are testing deep brain stimulations are one of the therapists for anorexia.
LONDON A small study in 16 people with severe anorexia has found that implanting stimulation
electrodes into the brains of patients could ease their anxiety and help them gain weight,
(Paragraph 1, Fox News). This could potentially be another treatment for those with anorexia. If
this works for most people then it may work for others.
Similarly, schools help kids with eating disorders by making programs and therapy groups. Full

  • 2. Through Deaf Eyes Review Essay In Through Deaf Eyes you will find a range of perspective on the question what is deafness? This film is a balanced presentation of deaf experience. I believe that the film does a good job of revealing the struggles and triumphs of deaf people in society throughout history. The documentary covers a span of close to 200 years of deaf life in the United States. You will see experiences among deaf people in education, family life, work, and social activities. Sign language is language that uses visual hand patterns to convey a meaning without using any vocal. It truly is a superb way of communication, although it was not always accepted in society. Wherever communities of deaf people exist, sign language develops. There was no... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I wasn t expecting that. After viewing the movie I understand better now why even if some deaf people can use their voices, they don t because it seems like it would lead to a one way conversation. Although the hearing person would understand what the deaf person was conveying, the deaf person would not be able to understand the hearing person without lip reading or using sign language. I laughed at the part of the movie where the deaf comedian was talking about an incident that he had while driving a car. A man was aggressively driving and beeping at the deaf man driving his car. When this man passed the deaf man, he said, What are you deaf? The deaf man who spoke and signed telling the story said he drove up to him and said, Yes, I am deaf! Although I laughed, it is offensive to the deaf individuals using the word deaf in such a negative way. People who are hard of hearing are people and should be esteemed as such. Deaf people living in a hearing world have certainly made their mark in the hearing community. Deaf people can do anything that hearing people can do. The band shown in the film called Beethoven s Nightmare caused quite a stir in our class. I think that we were simply amazed that deaf musicians could play so well. By showing the audience this experience, it provides hearing viewers with the knowledge that this type of event does occur within the deaf community and that the deaf can appreciate ... • 3. Annotated Bibliography Summary This annotated bibliography focuses on the traditional Southeast Asian healing technique known as coin rubbing. The term coin rubbing goes by different variations of names in each different region using the healing technique and although they have different names, the healing technique works the exactly the same in all regions to mostly treat headaches, flu, colds, and relief pains and symptoms. The most common name can be found in literature are Cao gio, Gua sha, Beating the wind, or Scarping/Scratching the wind. Although, Cao gio has been found on case reports in Western literature, there are no data or studies to prove the physiological effects of the therapeutic therapy. Therefore, this annotated bibliography will explore the culture beliefs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents are being wrongfully accused and trail for abusing their children when they have attempted to use traditional healing techniques on their sick kids. Many Americans are alarm to find the folk remedy to appear harsh, abusive, and hurtful, but are unaware that the healing practice cures a particular sickness or disease and pain like a child common cold, stomach problems, or a little headache. This book relates to my topic because it is found that more and more people are now not using cao gio when they live in western society in fear that they might go to jail and at the same time, they are not seeking other health care because they re not familiar to the western health care system, especially to those who newly immigrated into the country. In the article by Davis, Ruth E, the author suggest that physicians, doctors, as well as teachers, friends, and neighbor should have knowledge of these cultural practices to be culturally aware of cao gio, rather than pointing fingers of bad parenting which then takes it to far, tears the family apart, and would only be hurting the kids ... • 4. Quiet Girl Monologue For a while, my life was full of fear. I was afraid of not being accepted for who I was. As a result of that, I learned to make myself invisible to unwanted attention. I suppose you could say I would hide amongst the shadows. To my friends, I was one person, but to others, I was the quiet girl just the quiet girl, and I hated it. I wanted to be more than that and to do that I needed to be anyone but me. To make that change I decided I would start by starting a conversation with a stranger. After a few days of putting my plan on my opportunity finally came. I was at the library looking for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. While I was searching for the book, I noticed a girl about my age standing a few feet away. With an immediate boost of confidence, I walk towards the brunette. Unfortunately, that courage seemed to disappear as quickly as it came and I ended up mumbling something that sounded gibberish and walked away as fast as I could. I remember feeling my face heat up and glancing down at my trembling hands. At that point, I did not know what made me more upset the fact that I could not bring myself to talk to someone or the fact that I forgot my book. Recently he plans to go back to Portugal after his retirement. Portugal has been in deep recession for 5 years and is the third European country to need a bail out. After noticing the default crisis in Greece and Argentina, he is worried about Portugal will default very soon under the impact of European sovereign credit crisis. In Figure 1, the 5 YR CDS shows high bp starting from late 2009 to late 2012 and a gradually decreasing trend starting from the late 2013. The Shift from Fordism to Post Fordism and Possible Future Routes for Capitalist Organization Capitalism continues to be a revolutionary form of social organization. Modes of production, the ordering of daily activities, and the material practices and processes of social reproduction have undergone numerous changes since capitalism s inception. Mapping a history of capitalism s different stages and forms both social and institutional would be an arduous task, complicated by the fact that in each of capitalism s stages, features and characteristics of past and future stages abound. Nevertheless, the current form of capitalism marks a unique departure from previous stages. Euphemisms and catchphrases concerning late 20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this sense, a regime of accumulation refers to the stabilization over a long period of the allocation of the net product between consumption and accumulation; it implies some correspondence between the transformation of both the conditions of production and the conditions of reproductive wage earners. This must entail the formation of a knowable and predictable configuration of norms, habits, laws, regulating networks and so on that ensure the unity of the process, i.e. the appropriate consistency of individual behaviors with the schema of reproduction. This task of regulating and ensuring the sustainability of the regime of accumulation is the mode of social and political regulation. The regime of accumulation under Fordism relied on the link between mass production and mass consumption. In order to fuel the cycle of economic activity, wages had to be sufficiently high to support mass consumption. This mass consumption drove demand and productive activity for firms, which were afforded profits used to reinvest in productive ventures. This virtuous cycle of cumulative economic activity was thought to perpetuate itself indefinitely once full employment was realized. The purpose of the state under Fordism was to stabilize the free market s inherent crisis tendencies. The obligations of the state in this form of capitalist organization were ... • 7. Examples Of Imperialism In Avatar In the year 2009, James Cameron wrote and directed one of the most remarkable films I have ever seen Avatar . This science fiction saga has a story line that is engaging and captivating for its audience. Avatar took place on a moon called Pandora. Humans discovered very valuable natural resources on Pandora and did whatever it took to obtain what they needed from Pandora. The people of Pandora are Na vi s, a 10 foot tall, blue skinned humanoid alien group that lived in the rainforest or Pandora. This cruel words shows imperialism. Avatars imperialism in the movie and the world s history of imperialism have many similarities. People with more military or power tend to destroy people who have less power for self gain. Imperialism is the advocacy of extending the power and dominion of a nation by gaining indirect control over the economic life. There are many times in history were natives of a country have been imperialized by a foreign country for their land resources, this happened in the Avatar movie. Africa was imperialized by the Great Britain to conquer new lands for Brits to settle like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the American colonies. They imperialized them to get the wealth of their lands. Diamonds and gold in South Africa and ivory from Kenya. To open up trade routes, to get goods etc. This was why they were imperialized. • 8. My Online Shopping Experience On Why Individuals Are Not... An essay based on my online shopping experience on why individuals are not rational Introduction The essay will from my example show that individual including myself are not rational when making decisions. I will be using a diverse range of theories from the standard economic model to explain how the decision made during these experiences showed a rational behaviour and how it violates the standard economic model. Behavioural Economics according to is the combination of psychology and economics that investigates what happens in markets in which some of the agents display human limitations and complications. The major theories that I will be discussing for the standard economic model will be (Smith, 1976. Schiffman, 2007. Lowenstein et al, 1991) to understand the economic model and its assumptions on individual rationality. Behavioural economics theory helped explains my observation from my online shopping experience and irrationality of individuals when it involves decision making. Main body Standard economic theory assumes that people are rational, act based on full information have stable preferences and always maximize utility. The main accomplishment of Smith was to put forward as the central theme of economics the logical analysis of the behaviour of individual agents pursuing their self interest under conditions of competition (Smith. 1976). The standard economic model assumes that people are perfectly rational, maximising decision makers when faced with a problem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Space Exploration Space exploration has exploded in the past 56 years. From the first successful satellite mission in 1961, to the first mission space walk in 1969 a to the first time lettuce was grown and eaten in space in 2015. These are just the beginning steps towards potential space exploration and advancing technology to the maximum. Although space explorationis now being emphasized on and invested in, what does this do to benefit earth or even every individual who lives on Earth? Many writers, engineers, mathematicians, and chemists can agree that space exploration is going to provide more research for medicine and environmental factors. Others may also argue that the risks of exploring another planet will be too damaging because the life or atmosphere as it is will not be the same after humans have made their print on it. Three main clusters that are developed under this idea of space exploration is the benefits that are gained, ethical code and what it means with regard to the future of the humanrace. In this paper I will talk about what major projects are being worked on and who will benefit from these. This will also include what laws of space are and ethical code. This will also identify the differing viewpoints on space exploration and whether the big picture is worth the small steps being taken as to advancements in space technology and sciences. One large project that is being pursued is colonizing marswith a human population. This will mold the future and newer generations. It can make us question the future and what lies ahead. It has been said that it will take no more than 50 years to fulfill the colonization of mars. Ideas such as colonizing another planet is not unheard of and if humans do not consider the possible impacts in a new environment, this can be detrimental. The article A NASA Funded engineer s plan to colonize Mars from CNN was written by Kate Springer in 2017. One statement that made was, I believe building in space is going to become commonplace in less than 50 years. There s an abundance of energy and materials (in space) all we have to do is design self replicating factories and build a lot of objects. • 11. Alexander Mosaic Discussion of Badian Alexander Mosaic In the section A Note on the Alexander Mosaic Ernst Badian attempts to give his own interpretation of the Alexander Mosaic. Badian first gives Goethe s explanation of the mosaic. Goethe believes that Alexander appears as a conqueror while Darius is in horror. Badian, in this paper, attempts to show that Darius is in the prominent position and Alexander does not appear a conqueror or a hero. Badian starts his argument by discussing the similarities of a realistic action painting, like this Mosaic, and a snapshot. This means that the artist is focusing on one moment in time, and chooses what he wants to show. Badian then start to talk about the mosaic. He shows how the movement is from right to left, or... Alexander, however, cannot seem to be able to control his horse and his helmet has fallen off. This makes him appear as unheroic. The tree in the mosaic is another piece of Baldin s argument. In order for Darius to use his cavalry, Darius cleared the ground of the battlefield. This means the tree in the composition was obvious added by the artists and therefore must have a meaning. One interpretation Baldin gives is that the tree signifies the destruction of Alexander s wars. Badian ends by discussing the artist. He identifies the commissioner as Cassander, a King of Macadoia from 305 297 BC, and who Alexander treated poorly. Badian believes this poor treatment caused Cassander to have a bias while commissioning the mosaic. Therefore, he wanted a piece that did not glorify Alexander, even if he won every war against the persians. Finally, this explains why the mosaic show a time when the Persians are dominating the action and while Alexander looks unheroic, even though Alexander wins in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But one Founding Father often over looked, and not just because he stands five feet four inches tall, is James Madison. With all due respect, James Madison has accomplishments that stand just as well against the test of time. James Madison to me is one of the most important Founding Fathers. Please allow me to explain why I chose Mr. James Madison, the background and upbringing of him, some of his most notable contributions to the Unites States and why those contributions are still important today. The reason I chose James Madison over the rest of the Founding Fathers is because I believe he isn t as well known as he should be and with that being said, would like to inform you about him. Madison has accomplished many great things in his life that have had an effect on the United States as we know it today. Undoubtedly the biggest contribution that Madison made to the United States of America was the he was the author of the draft that was used to create the Constitution and without the constitution there really wouldn t be a frame of government. • 14. Teaching Grammar In Context Essay The study of grammar all by itself would not necessarily make the learner a better writer or speaker. However, by gaining a clearer understanding of how the language works, the learner should be able to gain greater control over the way he shapes words into sentences and sentences into paragraphs. In short, studying grammar may help learners to perceive the structures of the language effectively. Larsen Freeman (2001) as cited in Mart (2013), describes grammar as a system of meaningful structures and patterns that are governed by particular pragmatic constraints. This clearly indicates that grammar plays a crucial role in learning the target language. Grammar instruction is one of the most difficult issues that people have encountered in language learning and teaching. Therefore, the best way to overcome this issue is by ... According to Mart (2013), It will be more motivating for learners if grammar is taught in context as they will have an opportunity to perceive how the new grammar structures work. In my point of view, I strongly agree with this statement saying that grammar should be taught in context. For instance, as a learner, I also prefer the context based method as it is much easier for me to understand the concept of the grammar itself. Teaching grammar in isolated sentences is not going to help the learners because they cannot see the relationship between the grammatical concepts through a logical context. It was mentioned in the article that teaching grammar in context provides a meaningful framework that connects to reality in the targeted language (Anderson, 2005). This concludes that teaching grammar in context is very helpful in developing the learners comprehension of the grammatical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender and Advertising C H A P T E R 7 Gender and Advertising How Gender Shapes Meaning The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says, It s a girl. Shirley Chisholm Men are dogs and women are cats. Women are from Venus and men are from Mars. Writers, filmmakers, psychologists, and advertisers all have used the idea that men and women are different to develop stories, create conflict, and provide persuasive imagery. Not only do advertisers view men and women differently, but men and women also bring different perspectives to advertising. Thus, we can assume that men and women create dif ferent meanings from the advertisements they see. Gender roles in our society have changed dramatically since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the meaning from an advertisement has been determined, men and women differ in how that meaning is used. These different decision making processes are related to whether the process is linear or more nonlinear in nature. Men process messages and make decisions more quickly than women do, perhaps because men focus on the primary mes sage of a given advertisement and take in little other information during the process. This is due to the observation that men have a linear thinking and reasoning style, and men tend to have a more task oriented focus than women have. Women, on the other hand, process the information in an advertisement quickly and from many levels and sources, including music, visuals, voice over, and text. Women also tend to evaluate and weigh the various sources to process the message and determine what steps to take next. Women s reasoning processes are less task oriented and more compartmentalized than men s are. Women s decision making processes are characterized as being incremental reasoning processes, where each piece of information builds on the previous information that is taken in. This non linear approach to reasoning allows women to think in terms of interrelated factors, not straight lines. The observation that women evaluate multiple sources supports this reason ing style (Fisher, 1999). A vengeful character is often portrayed as the villain which therefore makes a revenge seem evil, but many authors tend to use revenge in books as a way to surprise the reader. Two short stories that feature the theme of revenge are , The Cask Of Amontillado (CA) by Edgar Allen Poe and Sredni Vashtar (SV) by H.H Munro (Saki). In CA the character s revenge was motivated by Fortunato using acts of derision on the main character in the past, while in Sredni Vashtar Conradin s revenge is motivated by Mrs. De Ropp s absence of sympathy for Conradin. Sredni Vashtar is about Conradi and his sour cousin named Mrs. De Ropp who both hate each other. Mrs. De Ropp would never, in her honestest moments, have confessed to herself that she disliked Conradin, though she might have been dimly aware that thwarting him for his good was a duty which she did not find particularly irksome. (1) In this statement, we find out that Ms. De Ropp finds it enjoyable to beat Conradin but won t admit it to herself that she does. Conradin justifiably hates her and knows it in his heart. We see this when the narrator states Conradin hated her with a desperate sincerity which he was perfectly able to mask (1). Conradin s only freedom during the day is when he sneaks out to the gardeners shack. When he is there he praises and worships a large polecat ferret. The cousin is often wonders where he is when he is in the shed. One day she searches his room and finds the shed key. She then goes into the shed when Conradin is inside. Surprisingly, the polecat ferret kills her just as Conradin had prayed for it to do. And every night, in the welcome darkness of his bedroom, and every evening in the dusk of the tool shed, Conradin s bitter litany went up: Do one thing for me, Sredni Vashtar. • 19. Justice Is Thrasymachus The Stronger At the beginning of the debate on what justice is; Thrasymachus shoves himself into the dialogue to say that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger (Plato 14 [I]). In the state, a ruler is considered the stronger, therefore what is advantageous to them is just. The laws made to be beneficial to the ruler are just, so it is just for their subjects to follow these rules and if they disobey it is considered unjust. This can be said since we can assume that the ruler is the strongest in any situation. When asked if rulers can make mistakes, Thrasymachus agrees. In relation to the last statement, if a ruler was to create a law in error, hence the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, and the subjects followed this law, justiceis served on one part. However, since the law is disadvantageous to the ruler, it would be unjust. The other interlocutors interpret Thrasymachus statement to mean that what is just is what the ruler believes to be advantageous to themselves since it was agreed upon that the ruler of the state is the stronger. Thrasymachus, angry with this conclusion, clarifies his agreement to: A ruler, insofar as he is a ruler, never makes errors and unerringly decrees what is best for... Water temperature was the natural phenomenon that may be responsible for poor egg hatching. Human causes such as increased UV radiation from depleted ozone and bottom trawling disturbance were considered. Trawling disturbance had the worst effect while the other factors were questionable. The recent developments of Atlantic cod and squid are discussed in more detail to provide a pattern that may lead to empty oceans in the future. Accounting for fish in the ocean. There are many methods to account for the number of fish in the ocean. However, there are many uncertainties within any models of assessment. The reliability of instruments and the weather condition during survey have great influence over the results (Smith and Gavaris, 1993). The mathematics involved and the interpretation of the numbers is very difficult to comprehend and are beyond the scope of this paper. However, in one 1997 journal article, C. J. The pill is made of synthetic hormones like the ones that occur naturally in your body. Before safe and effective contraception was developed women in ancient times used their own forms of barriers to prevent pregnancy. These included potions, charms, herbal recipes, and chants. • 36. The Epic of Gilgamesh and Sumerian Culture Essay The Epic of Gilgamesh and Sumerian Culture The Epic of Gilgamesh is generally regarded as the greatest literature about tales of a great king. The Epic of Gilgamesh served to show us a lot of things. The time period of BCE is very blurry, and this story attempts to describe many different things in not only Sumerian beliefs, but also Sumerian s culture as a whole. Like many stories from BCE the truth itself is questionable, even though a lot of the information is fact. The factual information that Gilgamesh teaches us about Sumerian Civilization is that had had many craftsman and artistic skills, and also a strong belief in Gods. The architecture in Mesopotamia are considered to have been contemporary with the founding of the Sumerian cities, but there was some complexity in the architectural design during this Protoliterate period (c. 3400 c. 2900 BC). This is shown in the design of many religious buildings. Typical temples of the Protoliterate period both the platform type and the type built at ground level are, however, much more elaborate both in planning and ornament. The interior was decorated with cones sunk into the wall, covered in bronze. Most cities were simple in structure, but the ziggurat was one of the world s first complex architectural structures. The Sumerian temples, called ziggurats was a small brick house that the god was supposed to visit periodically. This house, however, was set on a brick platform, which became larger and taller as time progressed. Along with showing many types of Sumerian craftsmanship, the epic shows the strong belief in many gods. All through out the story Gilgamesh comes in contact with many gods. But even before the contact with the gods, there was talk about Gilgamesh being created by them. • 37. Anterograde Amnesia List and explain the different classifications of Amnesias? The majority of us have an idea of what amnesia is. Although, it s probably a Hollywood stereotype we ve seen in movies. Amnesias is a general term for a condition in which an individual loses their capacity to remember or review data that is stored in their memory or create new memories. There are two main dimensions of amnesias. The first cause is physical or psychological; the second proceeds or follows a traumatic event. Most amnesia is a result either from organic or neurological causes (damage to the brain through physical injury, neurological disease or the use of certain drugs), The seriousness of the amnesia depends on the areas in which the brain is damaged. The second dimension is the dichotomy between forgetting the past versus an inability to form new memories. Terry, W. Scott. Learning and memory: basic principles, processes, and procedures. Boston, MA: Pearson, 2009. Print. Retrograde amnesia is not being able to remember events before the disorder. The amount of time that can t remember depends on the severity. Blessed Unrest Chapter Summary In his esteemed novel, Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Movement in the World Came into Being and Why No One Saw It Coming, Paul Hawken inspires with a call to environmental attention. As a both writer and entrepreneur dedicated to our world s ecosystems, Hawken seems to understand the impact we have created on our planet. Despite this, he also appreciates the human capacity to create an equal impact on the other end, and make positive progress. He defines this as the Movement, being an assembly of environmentally minded groups and NGO s coming together to save the dying ecosystems of the planet. Although Hawken s optimism should be admired, his outlook seems slightly quixotic. Behind what most may label as unrealistic, however, seems to always be supported by strong evidence and facts. Black rock, Nick Enright Essay Today I ll be talking about the play Blackrock that I ve been studying in class this term, the purpose of this speech is to make us think how Australian drama challenges us to think about Australian culture and identity, and the impacts it can have on us as person and as a community. Guys stick up for their mates no matter what Blackrock is a play written by Nick Enright that provides insight into Australian culture. Through the violent rape of a teenage girl, the audience is challenged to consider the values and attitudes still prevalent in Australia today. However, Jared s idealisation of Ricko blinds him to the realities of his aggressive personality. The impact of mateship and how easy it is for somebody to be pressured into doing something just to fit in is highlighted in scene six. Aregai 1 The Enlightened Archaeologist an article authored by Jeffrey Hantman and Gary Dunham chronicles Thomas Jefferson s investigation of the Indian burial mound located on the South Fork of the Rivanna River in the 18th century. The site excavated by Jefferson, however, is no longer visible, most likely due to dissipation by inevitable natural occurrences (I.E. excessive rainfall, flooding rivers, etc.) or human activity such as farming. The Father of American Archaeology correctly predicts the latter in his book, Notes on the State of Virginia, in which he states, mounds ...put under cultivation are much reduced in their height, and spread in width, by the plough, and will probably disappear in time (1787). Fortunately for Archaeologists of the late 20th century (1988) an Indian burial mound identical to that of the one Jefferson described in his book was uncovered just 14 miles from the South Fork of the Rivanna River. The Rapidan mound in spite of being reduced to its southern edge, provided archaeologists Hantman, Dunham, and colleagues a unique, yet waning opportunity to record and excavate the quickly abrading site. What they discovered from their digging surprised them; the content and order within the mound also resembled Thomas Jefferson s descriptive notes. In a period where growth both economically and territorially was seen as necessary for the development of a premature country, Thoreau felt the opposite. Thoreauwas a man in search of growth within himself and was not concerned with outward improvements in him or society. In the chapter entitled economy, he argued that people were too occupied with work to truly appreciate what life has to offer. He felt the root of this obsession with work was created through the misconstrued perception that material needs were a necessity, rather than a hindrance to true happiness and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since less work was required; people had more time to appreciate nature and thus enjoyed a happier life. Thoreau was very doubtful of the ideas that outward improvements could bring improvements to one s inner peace. One clear illustration of Thoreau s resistance to progress can be found in the chapter, Sounds, where he voiced his criticism on technological advancements. At first he was annoyed with the sound created by the passing trains which hindered his ability to hear the chirping of the birds. As he stated, The whistle of the locomotive penetrates my woods summer and winter, sounding like the scream of a hawk sailing over some farmer s yard, informing me that many restless city merchants are arriving within the circle of the town... (78). Trains also reminded him of the businessman and tradesman involved in manipulation and profits. Thoreau believed that a technological advancement such as the train would give people a false impression of heightened freedom, for trains were able to travel to areas never before imagined and in a time that was thought impossible. He was worried that people would prefer to take the train than the road less traveled. By taking trains, people missed out on the beauty of nature. Then he realized that the trains had transported people to many different areas and that it had enabled the people to experience new things. Thoreau showed his disapproval ... • 50. Argumentative Essay On Autism Giving a speech in front of classmates. Hugging a best friend after a rough day. Changing up the daily routine at school. These are a few examples of activities most Autistic children consider as their worst nightmare. Even though a child with Autism could be, and probably is, brilliant, they find themselves trapped inside. The Autistic Spectrum Disorder, universally known as Autism, is a disease that causes a child to face mental, physical, and emotional challenges. A wealth of new brain research is lifting the veil on Autism and revealing its effects on a child`s mind (Cray and Wallis 43). Neuroscientist Eric Courchesne at Children`s Hospital of San Diego revealed that while children with autism are born with ordinary size brains, they experience a rapid expansion by age two (Cray and Wallis 45). Much of this growth is due to the excessive amount of white matter, the nerve fibers that link different areas of the brain. The abundance of white matter has led doctors to believe Autism to be a problem with the way the brain is wired. Marcel Just, director of Carnegie Mellon`s Center for Cognitive Brain Imaging in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, wrote that there is a lack of synchronization between the different areas of the brain (Cray and Wallis 46). Local areas of the brain, such as the frontal lobes and the amygdala, are over connected while links between more distant regions, such as the right and left hemispheres, are poorly connected. One area of the Autistic brain that is enlarged is the amygdala. The amygdala`s job is to assess threats in the environment or in emotional and social behavior. It could be enlarged due to the fact that autistic children maintain a high level of anxiety when having to relate to other people. Another enlarged area of the autistic brain is the hippocampus, an area vital to memory. Doctors believe the hippocampus is enlarged because an autistic child relies on memory to process and interpret situations that most people interpret in a different area of the brain. Researchers have also discovered that autistic brains have chronic inflammation. Amidst these issues Autistic people have learned to adapt and use their brains in unusual ways. For example, they memorize the alphabet in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
