Study of the Mobility and Fall Risks of Elderly Subject...
GOALS AND SUMMARY
The goal of the study was to evaluate and analyze the mobility and fall risks of the elderly subjects.
Precisely, the main objective of the study was to evaluate the decremental effects of aging on a novel
index of mobility, i.e., dynamic stability, and fall risk in an elderly population, and to test for
correlation of vitamin D levels with fall risk and mobility related outcomes (i.e., dynamic stability,
strength, gait parameters, and physical activity).
Mortalities from fall accidents are steadily on the rise for the elderly. In this study, the cause of the fall
risk will be inferred by analyzing the relationship between Vitamin D statuses (deficiency) and how it
relates to mobility and fall risk related outcomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most subjects, sun exposure is the primary determinant of vitamin D status, accounting for 80 90%
of the vitamin D body stores. Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is synthesized in the skin and found in
fatty fish and mammals, whereas ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) comes from yeasts and plants. Vitamin D
supplements may contain either vitamin D2 or D3. Previously, the two vitamin D metabolites were
considered to have an equal potency, but recent studies have suggested that vitamin D2 may be
inferior to vitamin D3 in the treatment of vitamin D insufficiency [Romagnoli et al. 2008].
Moreover, there are few studies on the effects of vitamin D supplementation on muscle strength and
mobility in older people with low vitamin D status, although a recent study has suggested benefit on
mediolateral sway in participants who had large sway at baseline. Recent investigations have posited a
direct link between vitamin D and skeletal muscle, with a deficiency correlating with muscle atrophy,
decreased strength, functionality, and greater prevalence of falls and fractures. Moreover, this
deficiency is increasingly recognized as a worldwide epidemic [Cando et al. 2011; Holick 2007]
[Girgis et al. 2012] with more than a billion people worldwide deficient in vitamin D [Jannsen 2009].
Apropos to our investigation, only a few studies have objectively measured muscle strength
longitudinally in relation to vitamin D status (i.e., serum 25(OH)D levels) in elderly individuals

Peter Gibbon Definition Of A Hero
Like any other term in a language, it will inevitably change as society progresses. The word hero was
a term to constantly change as the world continued and grew quickly. More people started to relate to
the word hero, or achieve a status high enough be considered a hero with their extraordinary
achievements. A person who was considered a hero was expected to have no flaws, yet we all know no
human is flawless. As the world advanced, hero was slowly becoming old fashioned due to people in
modern times not relating to the word, or not becoming a hero themselves.
In older times, what made a hero a hero? In the article Heroes for Our Age, by Peter H. Gibbon,
heroes were considered to be a higher self and was made of excellence, bravery

The Theme Of Death In Hamlet
10 Bucks Everyone Dies, Bet
(The Theme of Death in Hamlet Acts 4 and 5) There a significance, some deep and abiding meaning
to death one that transcends our puny ability to understand? this quote is from chabad.org, by Maurice
Lamm. Death is very hard to understand, is it a void which we never return? Death may be just the
disintegration of our bodies that we all know as being kind of gross. The play Hamlet has several
deaths in it, the play is known as the play of death. Hamlet being the little baby he is just goes around
trying to figure out how to get the balls to kill the old man. In the play Hamlet throughout acts 4 and 5
the theme of death is very present, and one of the more major themes. The play Hamlet in act 4 shows
the theme of death very well. The theme of death is a biggy in the world of themes throughout the play
Hamlet. The play basically has everyone die in the end. Shakespeare shows his genius very well by
slipping little clues about the death theme throughout the play. He sprinkles the death ingredients like
he is a chef making a masterful entree. Hamlet infers on page 210 line 5, Compounded it with dust,
whereto tis the dead. Here Hamlet is responding to Rosencrantz where Rosencrantz is asking Hamlet
where he put the dead body of Polonius. The way that the two characters just throw death around like
it is some kind of play toy is astonishing. Both Rosencrantz and Hamlet have lost their sensitivity to
the subject of death. Lawrence R Samuel Ph.D. states from Psychology today, The end of life is now
frequently a prolonged period carrying a heavy emotional, ethical, physical, and financial price,
something that has helped make death this country s greatest taboo . This quote shows that death is
now a huge taboo to talk about, but back then it really wasn t after Hamlet has killed polonius. Clearly,
The theme of death is present during this time in the play Hamlet. The theme of death in Hamlet acts 4
and 5 are really shown by dulling the mind more sensitive subjects. Hamlet the play was the ultimate

The Mimetic Tradition
The mimetic tradition in classical western literary criticism
The word mimesis means to imitate. As a critical and philosophical term mimesis may carry several
meanings such as representation, imitation, and mimicry, the act of resembling, the act of expression
and the presentation of the self. Mimesis as criteria of literary criticism refers to interpreting a text in
relation to a particular literary or cultural model. The tradition of mimetic criticism begins with plato.
In ancient Greece the idea of mimesis referred to a reflection of the ideal world in the physical

It is a speaking picture whose aim is to teach and delight. Sidney classifies poetry into three types.
First is religious poetry that imitates the incredible excellence God. Secondly poetry that deals with

that which imitates for the sole purpose of teaching and delighting by telling not what has been or

forward the mimetic tradition in classical western literary criticism. Sidney also adds that a poet is one

Explain Why Do You Need A Reliable Truck Dispatcher
Why do you need a reliable truck dispatcher if you are an owner operator or own a small fleet of
trucks?
The trucking industry relies on good drivers to complete deliveries and the truck drivers rely on good
dispatchers to do their job well. A good dispatcher do more than just handling paper work, scheduling
pick up/deliveries and answering phone calls . Your dispatcher is your main point of contact when you
are on the road, so it s extremely important to have someone knowledgeable and reliable as your
dispatcher. A good dispatcher is more like a load planner with an in depth knowledge of the trucking
industry and with excellent customer service and negotiation skills.

Figurative Language And Imagery In Barter By Sara Teasdale
In the poem Barter by Sara Teasdale she uses multiple types of figurative language and imagery to
show how important it is to enjoy life no mater the cost; because it is worth it in the end. In line one of
the poem it says, life has loveliness to sale . This line is a motif because it is repeated in the first line
of the second stanza. She does this not only to reinforce the point she trying to get across, but it also
acts as a chorus of a song/ nursery rhyme. The first and seventh line life has loveliness to sell is also a
metaphor, where life is a salesperson that wants to sell us loveliness. Line one and line seven is also
personification because life can not really sale you something. She uses more personification in line

Social Media Issues In America
The United States of America is widely known as the greatest country in the world. But is it really just
that? Different researchers and their studies have proved this statement wrong. The obsession over
social media, lack of individuality, and the dating culture within America is simply morbid. While
many of these issues particularly pertain to millennials, they all can be applied to every age of life.
Society needs to fix and change these issues before they turn astronomical and irreversible.
Social media has corrupted the lives of the newer generation. It is no secret that technology has taken
over the world by storm. While some technological advances have helped America, most have done
the exact opposite. In discussions of social media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Societal standards that are held within social media possesses the idea that you have to be like a
celebrity or someone who is widely known. Lip injections, liposuctions, and expensive brands are on
the rise now more than ever. It seems as if no one wants to be themselves any more, and it is
seemingly appalling. The lack of individuality begins at a very young age in this generation.
Otherwise known as peer pressure , children are expected to choose to either be like everyone else, or
make their own decisions and be a loner. In a scholarly article, Blöte, Miers, and Westenburg came to
the conclusion that The link between social anxiety and substance us in adolescence may be partly
explained by susceptibility to peer pressure (Blöte, Miers, Westenburg 2016, p.6). Peer pressure and
lack of individuality starts at a young age, yet does not stop for what seems like forever. Pop culture
today has a fixation with being just like everyone else. But why does everyone want to be like
everyone else? Why is it so fascinating and enticing to be just like person next door? A researcher,
Alex Pentland, came up with a conclusion as to why people think this way. He

Euthyphro, By Plato
The book Euthyphro by Plato demonstrates one of the many complex ideas on ethics by the Greek
philosopher, using his teacher Socrates and the theologian Euthyphro. The two intellectuals meet at
the Porch of the King Archon, where both are involved in legal suits. The discussion between the two
begins with Socrates informing Euthyphro of an accusation by another individual, Meletus, calling the
philosopher a poet or maker of gods (pp. 2). After introducing the idea of piety, or holiness, Euthyphro
reveals to Socrates that he is prosecuting his own father for murder. This confuses Socrates, due to the
fact that Euthyphro is prosecuting his father over a murderous slave, and perceives it as impious. The
philosopher praises Euthyphro as a great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the paper Socrates provides sound arguments to the definitions given by Euthyphro, who
believes that he is an expert on the matter, yet ends up leaving without an answer. The dialogue ends
without an explicit answer to the question that has been the basis of the entire conversation; this
provokes the reader to determine whether there is an actual definition as to what is pious. The concept
of pleasing the gods and universal rights/wrongs are explicit examples of supernaturalism and moral
realism. What Socrates aims to teach his colleague is that there is no explicit answer to the question
being asked. If there is an answer, it would be an amalgamation of the aforementioned theories. With a
large majority of the world being religious, the subject matter of the dialogue is still relevant today.
While reading this, I was able to agree with both Socrates and Euthyphro at different times in the
dialogue. Euthyphro s explanations of holiness are what the majority of the public would say today,
however Socrates highlights that piety is something that cannot be explicitly defined. While some
things are unanimously agreed upon as holy deeds, there are some conflicts as to what can be
considered

Using What You Learned From The Inventory Do You Think You...
1. Using what you learned about yourself from the inventory, do you think you have high self esteem
or low self esteem ? What is one thing you can do to build your self esteem?
I learned from the inventory that I have high self esteem. I have high self esteem because I am
confident in my capabilities in school. I did not always have high self esteem I was discouraged when
I got a bad test score and my friend would say that she got a higher score than I did and rub it in my
face. It made me feel bad about myself and I thought I was not as smart as she was. Then I realized
just because I got a lower score than she did it did not mean that I was not smart it just meant I was
smart in a different way then she was. Some ways I can build my self esteem is don t beat myself up
over a mistake just learn from it and carry on, another one would be not to compare myself to other
people and point out my flaws. We are human so mistakes are gonna happen there is no way to prevent
them from happening but if we learn from them and do are best then we will become a better person

On of the most influential romantic English poets of the 19th century was Percy Bysshe Shelley. He
was born August 4th 1792 to Sir Timothy and Elizabeth Pilford Shelley in Field Place, Horsham,
Sussex, England. (Crook) Shelley was the oldest of six children. He had one brother, John and four
sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, Hellen, and Margaret. His family lived a very comfortable lifestyle,
especially his dad s father, Bysshe Shelley whom owned quite a few estates. Shelley s father was also
a member of parliament. The young Shelley was educated at Syon House academy from 1802 to 1804
and then attended Eton College from 1804 to 1810, where he resisted physical and mental bullying by
indulging in imaginative escapism and literary pranks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being young and in love and against his father s wishes Shelley and Westbrook decided to eloped to

with being expelled from Oxford caused Shelley and his family to become even more estranged. Due
to the ever growing distance between Shelley and his family, he and his new bride struggled
financially, until his grandfather Bysshe Shelley s passed away. Due to the provisions in his will, Sir
Timothy was forced to pay Shelley s debts and grant him an annual income. (Reiman) On June 23rd,
1813 Harriet gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Elizabeth Ianthe and before the end of
the very same year she became pregnant again. (Shmoop Editorial Team) Unfortunately for Harriet
her marriage to Shelley had already began to fail. In February of 1814 Shelley began to spend time at

Godwin whom he had not seen in over two years. Shelley had first met Mary when he and Harriet had

Persuasive Speech For Speech
SUMMER! It s that time of year again and with that comes summer break! , a phrase that brings joy
and a bit of nervousness for parents. As a speech language pathologist, a question heard often from
families this time of year is what can we do at home? . We love this question, because speech practice
can be done from anywhere! I wanted to share with you a few ideas that can be quick, easy, effective,
and FUN.
1. Chalk
Chalk is a must have for summer days. As a child, I can remember drawing endless hopscotch mazes
in the cul de sac with my neighbors and racing to the finish line. Let your kids have a great time being
creative and creating their own courses on the driveway, but encourage them to practice their speech
sounds. For example, you or your child could write or draw pictures of speech words in each square of
hopscotch, so that each time they jump on a square, they practice saying the words.
I also love tracing bodies in chalk and decorating them with funny faces, clothes, etc. This gives your
child opportunity to describe the person, label items, or tell a story about what the person is doing.
2. Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are so fun and can be so beneficial for speech and language goals. For a child
working on speech sounds, you could hide objects or pictures with their sound and let them find them
as fast as they can! As they find them, they can say the word 5 times or describe where it is using
prepositions ( under the trampoline ). They can also practice inferences or guess where the next item
will be ( I think the tennis ball will be in the mailbox ). This is also fun as a flash light scavenger hunt
. You can tape your practice words around the house and turn off the lights or hide objects outside at
night time. Hand your child a flashlight and then go find the words! They can say each word as they
find them!
3. I spy
This is a favorite of mine, because it can be easily adapted to match your child s goals, and you can
never go wrong with a game of I Spy . For younger children who are working on building vocabulary,
this will give them a chance to identify and label objects and actions around the house, playground,
beach, outside, etc. This is also a great time for you to draw their

Quality Control in Loan Appraisal Review
The strategic value of QC process in the mortgage industry
THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF THE QUALITY CONTROL PROCESS IN THE MORTGAGE
INDUSTRY (2003) The mortgage industry has originated record loan volumes month after month for
the last three years. The sub prime segment in particular has greatly benefited from the boom in the
housing market buoyed by interest rates that have approached historical lows. However a second
condition is critical to explaining the dramatic expansion of the sub prime segment: the unprecedented
access to large amounts of financial resources which has been leveraged to fund lenders growth.

Fair and correct application of appraisal rules 2. Consistency between appraised and market values. In
the new QC model all submitted appraisals were reviewed to detect errors or inconsistencies that
identify riskier appraisals. When anomalies were detected, appraisals were sent to the next control
stage for a more thorough and sophisticated analysis. At the end of each stage, appraisals were scored
based on the number and severity of the anomalies detected. The overall score allowed the lender to
develop an appraiser specific risk profile that was then aso leveraged to make grounded decisions
about future appraisals submitted by the same appraiser. The system introduced relied on an enterprise
document management solution (EDM) to further improve the efficiency of the QC process. By
leveraging the EDM s queue management functionalities the lender implemented a system that
allowed QC managers to coordinate the workload balancing activities among multiple locations.
Furthermore, providing QC analysts from different offices with the ability to access appraisal files
helped the client improve the quality of the analysis by taking advantage of reviewers experience
and/or specific geographical market knowledge. Key features of the new operating model: Improving
level of integration between QC and production activities. Screening activities were mostly automated
by leveraging the existing loan origination system (LOS). The first level of

Bicycle Thieves Essay
Bicycle Thieves (1948) is the story of a father and his desperate search for his stolen bicycle, without
which he faces poverty and an inability to support his young family. The film was directed by Vittorio
De Sica, who co wrote the screenplay with Cesare Zavattini, based on the novel of the same name by
Luigi Bartolini. André Bazin (1971) notably champions the view that it is a true masterpiece of Italian
neorealism, to which it was a relative late comer, in fact he insists that De Sica had reignited the
aesthetic of neorealism, breathing new life into what he felt was a struggling movement.1 In many

This produces an almost documentary like aesthetic, layering the fiction with a sense of honest reality;
the camera feels like a spectator placed in the environment, reflecting the ambience of documentaries.
Similarly, in Bicycle Thieves, the use of location shooting produces a similar result; the busy Sunday
market, the search by the Tiber, Antonio s failed theft outside of the stadium; all of these scenes carry
an atmosphere of actuality. Bicycle Thieves succeeds as a realist film here, the use of real location
lends a sense of authenticity to the aesthetic quality of the film. While it may not have the same raw
delivery as Rome, Open City, which was haphazardly shot during the liberation of Italy, we are still
presented with a cinematography and mise en scene which respects the reality it is attempting to
portray. Bicycle Thieves prospers in this sense, the simple journey through Rome over the course of
the film does not exploit the wonders of the ancient city. De Sica purposefully shows us the streets we
are not familiar with, the parts of the city which belong to its people, not its internationally recognized

Example Of Social Media Marketing
I am very fond of a local business called the Bubble Bistro. This young lady s business is tailored
towards body care; she sells all natural products which she hand makes. She specializes in soaps, body
oil, and body scrubs. I love the products so much that I frequent the business quite often throughout
the month. She is advertised locally mainly by word of mouth but she has a huge presence on social
media via Facebook and Instagram. The owner is very forth coming and this business is credited a
great deal with her current customer base including me. She knows her customers and I often find
myself advertising her business to anyone I know for them to check her out. She is a small business

I think group deals are very effective for one it helps the consumer save money depending on what is
being advertised. Everyone has different taste and different needs when it comes to purchasing power
especially with social media being in the rise and influencing the way we make purchase products.
According to (Tuten and Solomon), social media open exciting new windows for marketing research.
Whether to collect insights for the discovery stage of the creative process or to gather ideas for new
product development, social media provide new tools to listen to customers as they discuss their lives,
interests, needs, and wants . I am a huge shopper on Groupon and I like that I can save money on most
name brand products I am interested in and searching for. I often wondered how are deal sights able to
utilize so many products to advertise and sell at a good price. I realize that after so long so many
companies begin to drop prices and if it does not sell like in most discounted stores they send the
product to deal sights. The biggest investment for a marketer in my opinion is to find out what is
popular, what is the consumer wanting to purchase, and what is the hottest product to market. I think
the biggest job for any company is figure out what the people want, I mean take cell phones, we all

This is important as it provides accountability for the company. As outlined in the AASB framework,
notes are a form of supplementary information that may include information about items in the
financial statements, risks of the entity, and any resources not disclosed in the balance sheet. This
additional information provides investors with relevant information to assess the business on and
evaluate what they can expect from an investment in the company.
In calculating the solvency of a business, a clear indication of its financial position can be determined.
Solvency describes the ability of a business s assets to cover its liabilities if they fall due. From certain
figures in the balance sheet, the current ratio can be calculated. This ratio divides total current assets
by total current liabilities. If a company is solvent, this ratio will be greater than 1; in this case it is 3.3,
which indicates that the current assets can cover the current liabilities three times over and is therefore
indicative of a financially stable company.
The majority of the debt of Billabong is tied up in unsecured borrowings. Unsecured borrowings are
when no security is taken by the lender. The bank or finance company offers you a loan if they are
confident you will be able to repay it. During the year, the secured cash advance facilities were

Market segmentation is a process of segregating the market into different smaller groups. A market

The Pros And Cons Of Child Support
In situations, when the non custodial parent who has been ordered to pay child support fails to do so,
the other parent can depend upon federal and state family law to mandate appropriate enforcement
procedures. Parents who are delinquent on their child support are commonly referred to as deadbeat
parents. The term is typically used to reference state laws created to deal with a parent s refusal to
abide by the court s child support order. These mandates ensure that child support payments are
submitted in a timely manner.

Essay On Congenital Hypopituitarism
Discussion:
Congenital hypopituitarism is a rare condition and refers to absence or reduction in function of two or
more hormones produced by pituitary gland. When all pituitary hormones are affected the term
panhypopituitarism is used. It can be congenital or acquired. Congenital hypopituitarism is potentially
fatal in newborn period but treatable if the diagnosis is made early. Presentation of hypopituitarism
can vary in different patients. In our case patient presented with septic shock, persistent hypoglycemia

Summary Of Blake s Innocent Chimney Sweeper
The way in which both poems are structured is also important in understanding the relationship
between innocence and experience. As one becomes less ignorant towards the suffrage around them,
they become bitter towards their own society, which is clearly reflected in the structure of the poems.
Blake s Innocent Chimney Sweeper is perfectly symmetrical, consisting of six stanzas, each
containing four lines of four beats. This gives the poem a song like quality, which is effective in
highlighting the sadness of the subject matter. Child labour is not a joyful subject matter and should
not be associated with upbeat songs. It can be argued that Blake structures the poem in this way to
illustrate that the narrator uses song to cope through his intensive labour, for it is the only part of his
childhood that he can still cling to. This also contributes towards showing how young the children are,
because the lyrical quality and the positive tone used throughout the poem reflects the youthfulness of
the narrator. The contrast between the sound of the poem and its content highlights the narrator s way
of trying to preserve his own innocence. This contrast is also effective in showing that Tom Darce is
ignorant, and therefore, still innocent towards suffrage because he uses songs and daydreams to mask
his painful reality, illustrated when he envisions running down a green plain, leaping, laughing. As the
poem progresses, the rhymes eventually become less regular, which ruins the

My Life Chances within Canadian Society Essay
I, as a Chinese Canadian, with respect to my social location based on race, class, gender, and sexuality,

let me briefly describe my family background. I was born in the communist country of China. My
family immigrated to Canada in the year of 1992. We were an average income family in China.
However, after moving into Canada, we became a family that lies below poverty line. Since my

Subculture In The 1960s
Economic changes were happening in Britain; the economy had changed from heavy to light industry.
Light industry meant that jobs were created for unskilled individuals. The unskilled workers tended to
be the younger population, In Britain the labour markets had buoyed up levels of youth employment
during the 1950s and 60s (Osgerby, 2004, p. 25) and were also inexpensive to employ. With new
found economic independence young urban workers began to take advantage of the growing leisure
opportunities that were becoming available to them (Davis, 1990; Newburn, 2002) some considered
this as the formation of youth subcultures. With the younger generation in jobs this meant that they

All these subcultures were created through what music people listened to, the way they dressed was
defined by what music they listened to also. The punk look was distressed, they would intentionally
wear torn up trousers, heavy doc martens, the fabrics that they wore were all torn and pined back
together with safety pins. Their hair was usually in a Mohawk style and their makeup was very dark.
The punk look created a androgynous, tomboyish or unisex style (Leblanc, 1999, p. 156) before the
punk generation came along the public had never seen this look been done before. The fact that
women were dressing less like women and more like men scared them. They listened to music such as
The Buzzcocks and The jam, these bands would often have offensive language in their songs.
Substance abuse was also common in the punk scene, punks had a hard exterior which people were

The Use Of Denotation And Connotation In Rich s Poems
Denotation and connotation are literary devices that are incorporated throughout Rich s poem.
Denotation is the more literal meaning of a word, were connotation is a suggested or imaginative
meaning of a word. A more relatable example where denotation and connotation is used is when
someone implies the word home. The denotative meaning of the word home would be the particular
name of a structure. The connotative use of the word home could mean a place of affection, comfort
and peace. Just as denotation and connotation are used for words like home, this device is also used in

UCLA researchers conducted an experiment and found out that other diagnostic tools are more

universally. This test usually costs $4,000 and is not worth it because of how rare BRCA mutations
are. In order to follow through with this test, the price would have to drop by ninety percent.

Amniocentesis tests can be done fifteen to twenty weeks during pregnancy and will remove some

issues. Also, the fetus can be looked at during a fetoscopy where a fiber optic scope is inserted into the

Recruitment Methods
The purpose of this memorandum is to guide the company on how to conduct an efficient and
effective recruitment and selection process when hiring senior level employees. Below I have
provided a few of the top options that the organization can easily put in place for the use of recruiting
and selection new senior level staff.
Recruitment Methods Recruiting qualified candidates that are able to adequately handle and manage
senior level positions of the organization takes a great deal of time and patience. Placing individuals
who are not sufficiently knowledgeable at a senior level could cause an organization a great deal of
damage and money. It s therefore advisable for every organization to apply some of these methods.

There might be employees working as junior staffs but they have the required qualifications thus when
an opportunity arises they are given the priority.
Selection Methods Selecting suitable candidates for senior level positions of the organization is also
an essential undertaking. There are several considerations an organization must take into an account
about a candidate before hiring them.
1. Credentials Assessment. It is very important to know what experience and skillset a candidate
brings with them when joining an organization. Individuals with higher degrees, received from
premier colleges demonstrate commitment through their qualifications. (McDonald, 2012)
2. Position Matching. Another vital component to the selection process is matching the right
individual to the position. For example, a senior level staff member in charge of the organization s
finances must have experience and knowledge relating to the management of how a company s
finances are handled. If the candidate s experience and skills do not match the position being filled,
then obviously, this candidate is not the right match. Hiring a candidate with only some of the skills
needed for that specific position could put the organization in a very compromising position.
(McDonald, 2012)
3. Personal Characteristics. Another imperative element when selecting senior staff is their personal
characteristics in relation to their leadership

My House, And Household Apples
After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer that
the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always blossoming and
full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the recurring themes and
images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of the trees and how the narrator
describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a sense of endless opportunities. This
idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section when the man failed to spray the trees to
prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit
was: in the tree still apples like a hive for them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself
as you stepped...there was no help for it. The flies droned, feasting on the sweet juice. No one could
go near the trees; I could not climb; (Gass 17). The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did
in which he saw the country sail away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities
presented to him. Thus, the flies consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is
used to illustrate the end of these endless opportunities, of hope. Additionally, themes involving love
and loneliness stand out. We particularly see this when it says, No one notices, when they walk by,
that I am brimming in the doorways...To anybody else it s

Life And Death Among The Xerox People Summary
An analysis of Cabral s Life and Death Among the Xerox People: Progression of Technology and
Mechanized Life
Olga Cabral s, Life and Death Among the Xerox People is an extended metaphor aiming to make
relevant the effects of technological progress in society. Cabral asserts a new perspective for the
audience, using the title as a connection between xerox (a copying process) and the people in the
poem. Historically, the Xerox corporation began in the 1960s and has had success in progressing their
copy machine and being a role model to other companies by introducing diversified labor. The scheme
of the poem, however, unfolds through a comparison to the death penalty. In the 1960s, the death
penalty became a topic worthy of discussion, as people began questioning the government s role in
deciding the rights of citizens. Olga Cabral references both of these civil movement components
throughout the poem, Life and Death Among the Xerox People , to portray how society may seem to
be progressing through technology, but in fact, is making its way back down the timeline of societal
progression, step by step.
The hierarchy Cabral describes in the poem tends to see the workers, but not as people. Immediately
as it begins, the audience gets an insight of the wrong office (1) being described when Cabral writes,
not a soul knew me / but they said: Sit Down (3 4). The authority developed by the word they
concentrates on a grouping of administration that directs the speaker s

What differentiates my social location?
Throughout the research interview, I was aware that it was essential for me to respect the participant. I
was also aware of the power imbalance embedded throught the research process between myself and
the participant, from research topic design to the interpretation of the data and the need for ethical
consideration(Caswell, 2007, Wash, 2007 and Daley, 2007). In addressing the importance of research
ethics, Caswell states we must consider ethical considerations involving our roles as insiders/outsiders
( Caswell, p.156). Therefore, it was important for me to tell the participant about her rights to
participate in the research interview, the benefits, the potential risk and the informed consent. For
example, before I interviewed the participant, we reviewed the informed consent and when I asked if
she understood it, she reported, I do , that it was straight forward and that she would definitely
participate. Failure to establish and implement ethical consideration throughout the research process
can impact the interview, the data and the intereptation of the data( Caswell, 2007).It was important
for me to be transparent and maintained a good rapport with the participant.

The picture of Polly Toynbee in the article from the Guardian does not affect the argument and in my
opinion serves no purpose because it has no relevance to the topic of the article. The picture on the
front of the Animal Aid leaflet has the purpose of showing how animals suffer during and after they
have been put through a series of test that harm them. I think it is a very powerful image and supports
the leaflets objective. The other two images on the reverse side of the Animal Aid leaflet have the
same affect as the main image on the front. They both portray the suffering of animals during and after
harmful tests. Again I think they are very powerful and they support the objectives of the leaflet. It s a
crying shame is the title for the Animal Aid. It links in with the picture on the front because the dog
seems to be crying. The two combined are very powerful and create a sympathetic attitude for the
reader so they are more likely to agree and donate. The words shame does not represent anger towards
the persons who carry out the medical tests, it is a calm word so it makes you sympathise towards the
animals. It meets its purpose of making the reader pity the animals. The other two on the reverse of the

To say as a general principle that if an entity s role is a passive one then it cannot be a publisher,
would cut across principles which have formed the basis for liability in the newsagent/library type
cases and also in those cases where someone with power to remove a defamatory publication chooses
not to do so in circumstances where an inference of consent can be drawn. [37]

The Ignorance Of Truth In The Matrix
The Matrix is a film about a simulated reality in which humans are programmed to a neural interactive
simulation. The film is very similar to the bible due to the way that it has used symbolism to present
situations and scenes. The Gospel of John and some scriptures from the bible were taken to compare
to the film to show similarity and relevance. There are themes in which the Bible and the Matrix have
in common and these are ; evil is living in the ignorance of truth, resurrection and the truth. The first
theme that will be discussed in evil is living in the ignorance of truth and this shows similarity to the
Genesis 3 story when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. The second theme is the truth and this
shows relation to the gospel of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effectiveness of how The Matrix portrayed the gospel will also be discussed in this paragraph.
The Matrix had a scene, in which Neo fought Agent Smith to defeat the darkness and release the
human race from the simulated reality. Neo was shot not only once, but multiple times and repeatedly.
He fell and was shot even more. Neo was dead for 72 seconds which can be interpreted as 72 hours
which is equivalent to 3 days. He was brought back by love, which was Trinity and her kiss. As Trinity
leaned forward, This is the kiss of life she whispered. The kiss of life can be interpreted as the breath
of life . When Neo returned, he was more powerful than ever. Managing to defeat Agent Smith and his
posse, by dodging their bullets and powerful blows. Jesus however did not die to to come back even
more powerful, he died for people s sins, and was resurrected because of the power of God s love. Neo
proved that death can be overcome and by achieving this, he has managed to open up a possibility in
which everybody is able to recognise death and evil. When this is done, they will realise that death and
evil is not as powerful as love due to it being a stronger force. In the Bible, it talked about how a
person must atleast die once It is appointed for men to die once (Hebrews 9:27). God created earth for
humans to choose their path that ll affect

A Brief Note On Alcoholics Anonymous ( Aa )
Introduction
Locating a self help group for the completion of this assignment included completing research on self
help groups such as Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Overeaters Anonymous (OA), Alcoholics
Anonymous (AA). Alcoholism is a debilitating disease that causes unmanageable alcohol usage and
alcohol addicts would prefer the abolishment of alcohol abuse, but differential circumstances cause
many issues when individuals attempt to gain sobriety (O Tousa Grahame, 2014). Alcoholics
Anonymous has developed into the alcohol treatment methodology of choice for individuals seeking
recovery from multiple addictions including but not limited to alcohol, sex, food, gambling (Medina,
2014). Individuals that attend AA are twice as likely to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noteworthy, AA celebrated their initial start date on June 10, 2015, citing the derivation of the self
help support group as June 10, 1935 (Shamra Branscum, 2010). Alcoholics Anonymous is a
substantially influential group considering that they acted in changing the public s perception of
alcohol addiction from being a sin to alcohol addiction actually being a disease (Tavris, 2014). There
are more than two million members involved with AA universally, and the typical duration of sobriety
for these members is greater than seven years (Sifers Peltz, 2013). A major benefit of AA is the fact
that the programs popularity allows widespread accessibility that individuals have the opportunity to
access in the United States and abroad during a diverse amount of time intervals (Shamra Branscum,
2010). In addition, another benefit of AA membership is that the cost of membership is free; AA
requires no financial support from its members (Galanter, 2014). Moreover, AA gains its support by
receiving charitable donations from its members and other supporters (Sharma Branscum, 2010).
Alcoholics Anonymous Program Social support is a key essential during the process of member
engagement in the twelve step AA group meetings (Galanter, 2014). Storytelling originated from Bill
Wilson, who believed that the best way to assist individuals

The Main Themes Of Love In Shakespeare s Ethan Frome
The main theme in Ethan Frome is love. Ethan is caught in between loving his wife, who is very
sickly and angers him, or loving his wife s caretaker and cousin, Mattie Silver. Zeena, his wife, is very
demanding of his attention because of her sickness, and Zeena can treat him very badly. When Ethan
is with Mattie, she makes him very happy, and throughout the book, the reader can tell he has a huge
crush on her. He realizes toward the end of the book that Mattie is the glimmer of hope for him to be
happy for the rest of his life. Ethan is caught in a place that he cannot escape unless he hurts someone
s life. If Ethan stays with Zeena, then he will be stuck caring for her and living on the farm forever,
and Mattie will leave end up working at a horrible job. Mattie could possibly end up being homeless
and dying in the cold winter. If he leaves Zeena to be with Mattie, then he will risk that Zeena will
lose the farm, and she will have no place to go or anybody to care for her. Ethan couldn t choose one
because of the effects it would have on the other person. Love ended up being the motivation behind
Mattie and Ethan s accident. Ethan knew, as stated before in the essay, that he couldn t out of the place
he was stuck in, so he decided it would be better for him and Mattie to risk killing themselves. The
attempt was unsuccessful, and their lives even worse. Ethan and Mattie were now very hurt from
hitting the elm tree, and they needed Zeena to now take care of them. The

Rabbit Run by John Updike Essay
Rabbit Run by John Updike The world of John Updike s Rabbit, Run is a collection of polarities that
dramatizes the in betweeness and the constant state of tension that characterizes humanity. A cursory
perusal of John Updike s Rabbit, Run reveals a world of hopeless futility in which Harry Angstrom
runs in ever tightening circles. Rabbit is always running, from one woman to another, between Brewer
and Mt. Judge, between solitude and society. Rabbit is torn because he has faith in something
meaningful in the world, somewhere, but he fails to find it during any of his frequent but brief stops.
More important than the futile vacuity of Rabbit s world, however, is the fact that he never gives up
his quest. He searches through sex, orthodox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don t try to be Sally or Johnny or Fred next door; be yourself . Rabbit s life with Janice offends his
fastidious nature and he realizes that the clutter behind him in the room the Old fashioned glass with
its corrupt dregs, the choked ashtray balanced on the easy chair arm, the rumpled rug, the floppy
stacks of slippery newspapers, the kid s toys here and there broken and stuck and jammed, is not
Rabbit; yet the disorganized mess clings to his back like a tightening net . He longs for order, neatness,
and a straight and clear road ahead. The chaos of his home symbolizes the ugliness and unbearable
frustration his life seems to be heading toward. On impulse, Rabbit snatches his car from Janice s
parent s house and heads south towards a mythic land of peaceful orderliness on a beach of the Gulf of
Mexico. This avenue is spoiled for him, however, when he finds that the regions he travels through
resemble the landscape around Brewer, a tight mesh that constricts him. Updike states: At the upper
edge of his headlight beams the naked tree twigs make the same net. Indeed the net seems thicker now
. Even the songs on the radio remind him of Brewer. His journey, and the map that represents it,
begins to seem another trap: The names melt away and he sees the map whole, a net, all those red lines
and blue lines and stars, a net he is somewhere caught in . He has an image of himself going right
down the middle, right into the broad soft belly of the land . .

  • 2. Study of the Mobility and Fall Risks of Elderly Subject... GOALS AND SUMMARY The goal of the study was to evaluate and analyze the mobility and fall risks of the elderly subjects. Precisely, the main objective of the study was to evaluate the decremental effects of aging on a novel index of mobility, i.e., dynamic stability, and fall risk in an elderly population, and to test for correlation of vitamin D levels with fall risk and mobility related outcomes (i.e., dynamic stability, strength, gait parameters, and physical activity). Mortalities from fall accidents are steadily on the rise for the elderly. In this study, the cause of the fall risk will be inferred by analyzing the relationship between Vitamin D statuses (deficiency) and how it relates to mobility and fall risk related outcomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In most subjects, sun exposure is the primary determinant of vitamin D status, accounting for 80 90% of the vitamin D body stores. Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) is synthesized in the skin and found in fatty fish and mammals, whereas ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) comes from yeasts and plants. Vitamin D supplements may contain either vitamin D2 or D3. Previously, the two vitamin D metabolites were considered to have an equal potency, but recent studies have suggested that vitamin D2 may be inferior to vitamin D3 in the treatment of vitamin D insufficiency [Romagnoli et al. 2008]. Moreover, there are few studies on the effects of vitamin D supplementation on muscle strength and mobility in older people with low vitamin D status, although a recent study has suggested benefit on mediolateral sway in participants who had large sway at baseline. Recent investigations have posited a direct link between vitamin D and skeletal muscle, with a deficiency correlating with muscle atrophy, decreased strength, functionality, and greater prevalence of falls and fractures. Moreover, this deficiency is increasingly recognized as a worldwide epidemic [Cando et al. 2011; Holick 2007] [Girgis et al. 2012] with more than a billion people worldwide deficient in vitamin D [Jannsen 2009]. Apropos to our investigation, only a few studies have objectively measured muscle strength longitudinally in relation to vitamin D status (i.e., serum 25(OH)D levels) in elderly individuals [Jannsenn et ... • 3. Peter Gibbon Definition Of A Hero Like any other term in a language, it will inevitably change as society progresses. The word hero was a term to constantly change as the world continued and grew quickly. More people started to relate to the word hero, or achieve a status high enough be considered a hero with their extraordinary achievements. A person who was considered a hero was expected to have no flaws, yet we all know no human is flawless. As the world advanced, hero was slowly becoming old fashioned due to people in modern times not relating to the word, or not becoming a hero themselves. In older times, what made a hero a hero? • 4. The Theme Of Death In Hamlet 10 Bucks Everyone Dies, Bet (The Theme of Death in Hamlet Acts 4 and 5) There a significance, some deep and abiding meaning to death one that transcends our puny ability to understand? this quote is from chabad.org, by Maurice Lamm. Death is very hard to understand, is it a void which we never return? Death may be just the disintegration of our bodies that we all know as being kind of gross. The play Hamlet has several deaths in it, the play is known as the play of death. Hamlet being the little baby he is just goes around trying to figure out how to get the balls to kill the old man. In the play Hamlet throughout acts 4 and 5 the theme of death is very present, and one of the more major themes. The play Hamlet in act 4 shows the theme of death very well. The theme of death is a biggy in the world of themes throughout the play Hamlet. The play basically has everyone die in the end. Shakespeare shows his genius very well by slipping little clues about the death theme throughout the play. He sprinkles the death ingredients like he is a chef making a masterful entree. Hamlet infers on page 210 line 5, Compounded it with dust, whereto tis the dead. Here Hamlet is responding to Rosencrantz where Rosencrantz is asking Hamlet where he put the dead body of Polonius. The way that the two characters just throw death around like it is some kind of play toy is astonishing. Both Rosencrantz and Hamlet have lost their sensitivity to the subject of death. Lawrence R Samuel Ph.D. states from Psychology today, The end of life is now frequently a prolonged period carrying a heavy emotional, ethical, physical, and financial price, something that has helped make death this country s greatest taboo . This quote shows that death is now a huge taboo to talk about, but back then it really wasn t after Hamlet has killed polonius. Clearly, The theme of death is present during this time in the play Hamlet. The theme of death in Hamlet acts 4 and 5 are really shown by dulling the mind more sensitive subjects. Hamlet the play was the ultimate R rated movie from the olden times.Hamlet suggests on page 214 line 30, A man may eat a fish with the worm that hath eat of a king, and eat the fish that hath fed of that worm. Figurative Language And Imagery In Barter By Sara Teasdale In the poem Barter by Sara Teasdale she uses multiple types of figurative language and imagery to show how important it is to enjoy life no mater the cost; because it is worth it in the end. In line one of the poem it says, life has loveliness to sale . This line is a motif because it is repeated in the first line of the second stanza. She does this not only to reinforce the point she trying to get across, but it also acts as a chorus of a song/ nursery rhyme. Different researchers and their studies have proved this statement wrong. The obsession over social media, lack of individuality, and the dating culture within America is simply morbid. While many of these issues particularly pertain to millennials, they all can be applied to every age of life. Society needs to fix and change these issues before they turn astronomical and irreversible. Social media has corrupted the lives of the newer generation. The lack of individuality begins at a very young age in this generation. In a scholarly article, Blöte, Miers, and Westenburg came to the conclusion that The link between social anxiety and substance us in adolescence may be partly explained by susceptibility to peer pressure (Blöte, Miers, Westenburg 2016, p.6). Peer pressure and lack of individuality starts at a young age, yet does not stop for what seems like forever. Pop culture today has a fixation with being just like everyone else. • 9. Euthyphro, By Plato The book Euthyphro by Plato demonstrates one of the many complex ideas on ethics by the Greek philosopher, using his teacher Socrates and the theologian Euthyphro. The two intellectuals meet at the Porch of the King Archon, where both are involved in legal suits. The discussion between the two begins with Socrates informing Euthyphro of an accusation by another individual, Meletus, calling the philosopher a poet or maker of gods (pp. 2). After introducing the idea of piety, or holiness, Euthyphro reveals to Socrates that he is prosecuting his own father for murder. This confuses Socrates, due to the fact that Euthyphro is prosecuting his father over a murderous slave, and perceives it as impious. The philosopher praises Euthyphro as a great ... Throughout the paper Socrates provides sound arguments to the definitions given by Euthyphro, who believes that he is an expert on the matter, yet ends up leaving without an answer. The dialogue ends without an explicit answer to the question that has been the basis of the entire conversation; this provokes the reader to determine whether there is an actual definition as to what is pious. The concept of pleasing the gods and universal rights/wrongs are explicit examples of supernaturalism and moral realism. What Socrates aims to teach his colleague is that there is no explicit answer to the question being asked. If there is an answer, it would be an amalgamation of the aforementioned theories. With a large majority of the world being religious, the subject matter of the dialogue is still relevant today. While reading this, I was able to agree with both Socrates and Euthyphro at different times in the dialogue. Euthyphro s explanations of holiness are what the majority of the public would say today, however Socrates highlights that piety is something that cannot be explicitly defined. • 13. Persuasive Speech For Speech SUMMER! It s that time of year again and with that comes summer break! , a phrase that brings joy and a bit of nervousness for parents. As a speech language pathologist, a question heard often from families this time of year is what can we do at home? . We love this question, because speech practice can be done from anywhere! I wanted to share with you a few ideas that can be quick, easy, effective, and FUN. 1. Chalk Chalk is a must have for summer days. As a child, I can remember drawing endless hopscotch mazes in the cul de sac with my neighbors and racing to the finish line. Let your kids have a great time being creative and creating their own courses on the driveway, but encourage them to practice their speech sounds. For example, you or your child could write or draw pictures of speech words in each square of hopscotch, so that each time they jump on a square, they practice saying the words. I also love tracing bodies in chalk and decorating them with funny faces, clothes, etc. This gives your child opportunity to describe the person, label items, or tell a story about what the person is doing. 2. Scavenger Hunt Scavenger hunts are so fun and can be so beneficial for speech and language goals. For a child working on speech sounds, you could hide objects or pictures with their sound and let them find them as fast as they can! As they find them, they can say the word 5 times or describe where it is using prepositions ( under the trampoline ). They can also practice inferences or guess where the next item will be ( I think the tennis ball will be in the mailbox ). This is also fun as a flash light scavenger hunt . You can tape your practice words around the house and turn off the lights or hide objects outside at night time. Hand your child a flashlight and then go find the words! They can say each word as they find them! 3. I spy This is a favorite of mine, because it can be easily adapted to match your child s goals, and you can never go wrong with a game of I Spy . For younger children who are working on building vocabulary, this will give them a chance to identify and label objects and actions around the house, playground, beach, outside, etc. This is also a great time for you to draw their ... In the new QC model all submitted appraisals were reviewed to detect errors or inconsistencies that identify riskier appraisals. At the end of each stage, appraisals were scored based on the number and severity of the anomalies detected. The overall score allowed the lender to develop an appraiser specific risk profile that was then aso leveraged to make grounded decisions about future appraisals submitted by the same appraiser. The system introduced relied on an enterprise document management solution (EDM) to further improve the efficiency of the QC process. The film was directed by Vittorio De Sica, who co wrote the screenplay with Cesare Zavattini, based on the novel of the same name by Luigi Bartolini. André Bazin (1971) notably champions the view that it is a true masterpiece of Italian neorealism, to which it was a relative late comer, in fact he insists that De Sica had reignited the aesthetic of neorealism, breathing new life into what he felt was a struggling movement.1 In many ways, his assertion was true, with the likes of Rossellini and Visconti continuing to produce additions to the canon, De Sica again contributing ... Donors have been known to scarce because not everyone takes good care of his or her body. There are not enough people to donate organs, yet the amount of people in need of organs is increasing by the hour. Another conflict is organ transplants can still lead to other medical problems. This is usually because of the medicine you need to suppress your immune system (Nazario Brunilda , Common ). After an organ transplants, it is a must that you continuously take your medication; a sudden stop will most likely cause the immune system to reject the organ. • 27. Summary Of Blake s Innocent Chimney Sweeper The way in which both poems are structured is also important in understanding the relationship between innocence and experience. As one becomes less ignorant towards the suffrage around them, they become bitter towards their own society, which is clearly reflected in the structure of the poems. Blake s Innocent Chimney Sweeper is perfectly symmetrical, consisting of six stanzas, each containing four lines of four beats. This gives the poem a song like quality, which is effective in highlighting the sadness of the subject matter. Child labour is not a joyful subject matter and should not be associated with upbeat songs. It can be argued that Blake structures the poem in this way to illustrate that the narrator uses song to cope through his intensive labour, for it is the only part of his childhood that he can still cling to. This also contributes towards showing how young the children are, because the lyrical quality and the positive tone used throughout the poem reflects the youthfulness of the narrator. The contrast between the sound of the poem and its content highlights the narrator s way of trying to preserve his own innocence. This contrast is also effective in showing that Tom Darce is ignorant, and therefore, still innocent towards suffrage because he uses songs and daydreams to mask his painful reality, illustrated when he envisions running down a green plain, leaping, laughing. As the poem progresses, the rhymes eventually become less regular, which ruins the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My House, And Household Apples After analyzing the five sections beginning with My House and Household Apples we can infer that the entire story is about people longing for love and looking for a life that s always blossoming and full of hope, only to find this dream dashed. In fact, we can infer this from the recurring themes and images that are portrayed throughout these sections. Like, the images of the trees and how the narrator describes them as not only beautiful but also as if they present a sense of endless opportunities. This idea is dashed though in the Household Apple s section when the man failed to spray the trees to prevent bugs from swarming them and the fruit they were grew. They [flies] were everywhere the fruit was: in the tree still apples like a hive for them or where the fruit littered the ground, squashing itself as you stepped...there was no help for it. The flies droned, feasting on the sweet juice. No one could go near the trees; I could not climb; (Gass 17). The man can no longer climb the tree like he once did in which he saw the country sail away from him, and figuratively speaking the span of opportunities presented to him. Thus, the flies consuming the trees and preventing anyone from going near them is used to illustrate the end of these endless opportunities, of hope. Additionally, themes involving love and loneliness stand out. We particularly see this when it says, No one notices, when they walk by, that I am brimming in the doorways...To anybody else it s ... Life And Death Among The Xerox People Summary An analysis of Cabral s Life and Death Among the Xerox People: Progression of Technology and Mechanized Life Olga Cabral s, Life and Death Among the Xerox People is an extended metaphor aiming to make relevant the effects of technological progress in society. Cabral asserts a new perspective for the audience, using the title as a connection between xerox (a copying process) and the people in the poem. Historically, the Xerox corporation began in the 1960s and has had success in progressing their copy machine and being a role model to other companies by introducing diversified labor. The scheme of the poem, however, unfolds through a comparison to the death penalty. In the 1960s, the death penalty became a topic worthy of discussion, as people began questioning the government s role in deciding the rights of citizens. Olga Cabral references both of these civil movement components throughout the poem, Life and Death Among the Xerox People , to portray how society may seem to be progressing through technology, but in fact, is making its way back down the timeline of societal progression, step by step. The hierarchy Cabral describes in the poem tends to see the workers, but not as people. He fell and was shot even more. Neo was dead for 72 seconds which can be interpreted as 72 hours which is equivalent to 3 days. He was brought back by love, which was Trinity and her kiss. Alcoholics Anonymous is a substantially influential group considering that they acted in changing the public s perception of alcohol addiction from being a sin to alcohol addiction actually being a disease (Tavris, 2014). A major benefit of AA is the fact that the programs popularity allows widespread accessibility that individuals have the opportunity to access in the United States and abroad during a diverse amount of time intervals (Shamra Branscum, 2010). In addition, another benefit of AA membership is that the cost of membership is free; AA requires no financial support from its members (Galanter, 2014). Moreover, AA gains its support by receiving charitable donations from its members and other supporters (Sharma Branscum, 2010). • 45. The Main Themes Of Love In Shakespeare s Ethan Frome The main theme in Ethan Frome is love. Ethan is caught in between loving his wife, who is very sickly and angers him, or loving his wife s caretaker and cousin, Mattie Silver. Zeena, his wife, is very demanding of his attention because of her sickness, and Zeena can treat him very badly. When Ethan is with Mattie, she makes him very happy, and throughout the book, the reader can tell he has a huge crush on her. He realizes toward the end of the book that Mattie is the glimmer of hope for him to be happy for the rest of his life. Ethan is caught in a place that he cannot escape unless he hurts someone s life. If Ethan stays with Zeena, then he will be stuck caring for her and living on the farm forever, and Mattie will leave end up working at a horrible job. Mattie could possibly end up being homeless and dying in the cold winter. If he leaves Zeena to be with Mattie, then he will risk that Zeena will lose the farm, and she will have no place to go or anybody to care for her. Ethan couldn t choose one because of the effects it would have on the other person. Love ended up being the motivation behind Mattie and Ethan s accident. Ethan knew, as stated before in the essay, that he couldn t out of the place he was stuck in, so he decided it would be better for him and Mattie to risk killing themselves. The attempt was unsuccessful, and their lives even worse. Ethan and Mattie were now very hurt from hitting the elm tree, and they needed Zeena to now take care of them. The ... Rabbit Run by John Updike Essay Rabbit Run by John Updike The world of John Updike s Rabbit, Run is a collection of polarities that dramatizes the in betweeness and the constant state of tension that characterizes humanity. A cursory perusal of John Updike s Rabbit, Run reveals a world of hopeless futility in which Harry Angstrom runs in ever tightening circles. Rabbit is always running, from one woman to another, between Brewer and Mt. Judge, between solitude and society. Rabbit is torn because he has faith in something meaningful in the world, somewhere, but he fails to find it during any of his frequent but brief stops. More important than the futile vacuity of Rabbit s world, however, is the fact that he never gives up his quest. He searches through sex, orthodox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Don t try to be Sally or Johnny or Fred next door; be yourself . Rabbit s life with Janice offends his fastidious nature and he realizes that the clutter behind him in the room the Old fashioned glass with its corrupt dregs, the choked ashtray balanced on the easy chair arm, the rumpled rug, the floppy stacks of slippery newspapers, the kid s toys here and there broken and stuck and jammed, is not Rabbit; yet the disorganized mess clings to his back like a tightening net . He longs for order, neatness, and a straight and clear road ahead. The chaos of his home symbolizes the ugliness and unbearable frustration his life seems to be heading toward. On impulse, Rabbit snatches his car from Janice s parent s house and heads south towards a mythic land of peaceful orderliness on a beach of the Gulf of Mexico. This avenue is spoiled for him, however, when he finds that the regions he travels through resemble the landscape around Brewer, a tight mesh that constricts him. Updike states: At the upper edge of his headlight beams the naked tree twigs make the same net. Indeed the net seems thicker now . Even the songs on the radio remind him of Brewer. His journey, and the map that represents it, begins to seem another trap: The names melt away and he sees the map whole, a net, all those red lines and blue lines and stars, a net he is somewhere caught in . He has an image of himself going right down the middle, right into the broad soft belly of the land . . ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
