Nietzsche s Critique of Judeo-Christian Values
Nietzsche s critique of Judeo Christian values
As perhaps one of the most important pieces of work written by Nietzsche, On the Genealogy of
Morality contains some of his most complex and provocative thoughts on the nature of morality and
its origins. It is evident throughout his essays that Nietzsche has a profound discontent with
modern society and its values, a discontent that Nietzsche attempts to explain through a thorough
critique of the modern values that have stemmed from the rise of Judeo Christianity values that
have shaped today s civilization. In his analysis of concepts such as morality and guilt, he explores
the history of the deformation of the once noble and animalistic human society that succumbed to
its death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, their intelligence became their weapon against the nobles. Nietzsche expresses this
when he states priests make the worst enemies...because they are the most powerless. Out of this
powerlessness, their hate swells into something huge and uncanny to a most intellectual and
poisonous level (17). Among all of the priestly caste, however, Nietzsche identifies the Jews to be
the most hateful, and characterizes them as being the most entrenched with priestly vengefulness
(17). The desire of the clerical caste to effect their revenge on the nobles in the form of a
revaluation of the their moral code was the embodiment of their ressentiment turning itself from
thought and into action. Nietzsche expresses this when he states The beginning of the slaves revolt
in morality occurs when ressentiment itself turns creative and gives birth to values: the
ressentiment of those beings who, denied the proper response of action, compensate for it only with
imaginary revenge (20). Nietzsche associates the slave revolt in morality with the priestly castes,
namely the Jews , dedicated and deliberate desire to implement their revenge through the creation
and revaluation of morals, stating with regard to the huge and incalculably disastrous initiative
taken by the Jews with this most fundamental of all declarations of war...the slaves revolt in
morality begins with the Jews: a revolt which has two thousand years of history behind it (17).

Ethical Argument
Many people think of their parents or a famous person as their hero however, I chose my husband.
He poses the number one ethical principle I rely on the most. Ethical communicators are honest.
Despite how much he love and appreciate me, he will always tell me the truth. Honestly there
have been times where my feelings were hurt nonetheless, I am grateful to know I can always
depend on him to tell it like it is. Not everyone wants to hear the truth, especially if it puts anything
they are doing in jeopardy. In addition, being an honest communicator people will cling to you for
advice. An audience expects to hear the truth when you are speaking to them (Verderber Sellnow,

Hmong Culture Essays
Hmong Culture Food, Eating and Cooking
Diverse Cultures in America Soc 240
Upper Iowa University
The Hmong people are originally from rural mountainous areas in Laos and they still inhabit that
country to this day. Laos is a country that is located in Southeast Asia. Hmong people are divided
into clans or tribes that share the same paternal ancestry. The Hmong people inhabited all parts of
Laos but all carried pretty much the same cultures and livelihood with them as many immigrated to
the United States in the past few decades (Ohio State University, 2005).
One of the important parts of Hmong culture is their food. The Hmong staple food is white rice.

Hmong try to grow as much food as possible to supplement their families without having to buy
from grocery stores. If there is excess food grown, they are shared with fellow clan members.
Hmong culture relies on many different methods for cooking meals and they are stir frying,
boiling, steaming and roasting over an open fire. Vegetable oils and pork fats are the primary
fats used in cooking if an oil is needed. Seasoning are also an essential part of cooking, they use
soy sauce, hot peppers, ginger, garlic, coconut and lemon grass which are all quite commonly
used. The Hmong culture does not usually use salt and pepper, since it was not readily available in
Laos. But it is been found in more and more of American Hmong kitchens.
There were many products that Hmong use today in America that were not readily available to
them in Laos. Dairy products are one product which was unavailable most of the time in Laos,
though at times goat milk was used to supplement diets. Many Hmong continue to not use dairy
products because of the moderate percentage of Hmong that are lactose intolerant. The overall fat
content in the Hmong diet is very low. The Hmong people eat relatively few sweets and do not
participate in cooking these sweet items very often or at all (Kitler P. Schuer K. 1989).
Sooner or later the inevitable will arise, since we are all are human and curiosity and taste buds

Airbags Pop em or Keep em
During the rainstorm, it s hard to see anything especially when the downpour makes the windshield
wipers work constantly. On this cold, dreary
September night young two year old Mica is safely buckled in her child safety seat, which is
attached to the passenger seat belt. Her older brother, Sean, quietly sleeps in the backseat while his
mother drives the exhausted children home. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tall, 12 point buck is
caught by the vehicles headlights. Both the buck and the mother freeze. A milli second later, a
powerful explosion occurs inside the cabin. The airbags deflate nearly as quickly as they inflate,

True, airbags have had some success. According to CNN, airbags have been credited with saving
1,100 lives since they have been introduced ( quot;Federal

to cut the overall injury rate that occurs in accidents
( quot;Reports Knock Airbag Safety quot; 1). The airbags may be saving some lives.
However, in other cases, they are doing more damage than good. USA Today broke the story on
airbag performance. The news report told us that airbags deliver enough non lethal injuries to the
passengers that it offsets their performance on overall injuries ( quot;Reports Knock Airbag Safety
quot; 1). The net result: airbags have been found to cause injuries in so many accidents that the
little good they do is overshadowed by the injuries they cause.
Now that you understand some of the problems with the performance of airbags, let s look at
another problem why they are unreliable.
The reliability of airbags is questioned since they do not protect all sizes of bodies. When the first
airbags were tested, the engineers didn t take into account the different sizes of people the bags
would have to protect. They used a one sized dummy, similar to quot;Larry and

Essay about Comapring Porters 5 Forces for the Airline...
Assignment # 1
Strategic Practice Exercise: (page #81)
1. Score each competitive force in the airline industry and provide a brief rationale for your
assessment.
В·Rivalry Among Existing Firms: (High)
When one major company in an industry makes a change in costs or services that could
potentially increase their clientele, a major competitor almost always follows suit. Price matching
is a prime example of that, therefore the threat is high. West Jet is one company that offers flights
at a discount and forced Air Canada to create new banners to compete with the discounted prices.
All major companies and firms in an industry watch each other s every move very carefully, and
match any move with a countermove. During slow season in the airline ... Show more content on

Therefore, the threat of substitution is a significant factor in the airline industry. However, if a
customer has to travel very quickly or a significant distance, that person would most likely choose
the flight option instead of a cheaper alternative.
В·Bargaining Power of Buyers/Distributors: (Medium)
Bargaining power is a tricky one because it can work both ways. Buyers have a certain level of
power in any industry. A buyer may switch suppliers very easily if there are no penalties and it is
cost effective for them. If a large firm makes a large purchase of goods from another firm, it may
be mutually beneficial and if serviced well, have the potential for repeat business. However, the
buyer then has the power to use a substitute or competitor which would negatively affect the
seller. Buyers are always the more powerful of the two because some buyers have the ability to
put pressure on lower costs from suppliers, while demanding an increase of the quality of
products or services provided to them. Also, the bargaining power in industries with high fixed
costs like the airline industry can play a big factor. On the other hand, things like jet engines, tires
and other key safety devices on aircrafts can cause severe consequences if this equipment
malfunctions. For that reason, the buyer has a reduced amount of bargaining power with suppliers
in this industry. The bargaining power of buyers is both high and low, so I ranked it medium.

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter, is most often referred to as Nathaniel Hawthorne s best work. It gives a
detailed image of life in a Puritan society. The heroine of the book Hester Prynne, defies power,
and rebels against colonial rule. Laws composed of religious convictions and individual beliefs.
Through Hester s action, you can depict a feminist consciousness. She differs from traditional
colonial womanwho s sole purpose it to be obedient, despite the unfair rules carried out by puritan
men. Hester represents a new female image centering on her own religious spirit, self reliance, and
strong mind. Hester represents the pure meaning of feminism, which here, has a positive meaning.
She encourages todays women to fight for gender equality. Massachusetts Bay colony was a man s
world (History of American Women). Women were not allowed many civil rights or liberties, which
men were awarded. Women could not attend town meetings, or vote in the churches elections, even
the sermons were favored by the male supremacy (History of American Women). It was preached
that the soul had two parts: the immortal masculine half, and the mortal femine half ( History of
American Women). It seemed that men were subject to praise more often than woman were.
Women were even often referred to as instruments of Satan. Men were able to construct scientific,
religious, and philosophial systems which portrayed men in a dominant position. The Article

Empathy And Irony In William Stafford s Poem
People do not have the same destinies. However, though one can not easily understand another
completely, individuals see their futures, even when their thread gets tangled like a jar of jewelry.
Especially during the high school ages, young people are constantly ask about their futures, and
although it is in good nature, the wanderertends to overstep and misunderstand. The first half of the
poem appears to speak to an individual s plan: the attachment to the thread, the necessary
explanation, the questions. Then, the second half seems to connect to the unalterable stream of
life. As Stafford writes, you don t ever let go of the thread, the poem feels more like a death
sentence. Regardless of this, the poem still fastened to one s tactics... Show more content on

Intuition has been a strong factor in my plans for after high school and it can be confusing for
another to understand. It is true, threads are unknowable to outsiders. However, empathy is a way
around the barrier. No one needs to understand everything, but humans need to be less narrow
minded for everyone to flourish. The title is an unqualified fact of life. Using simplistic words, the
title becomes matter of fact. After reading the poem, one would assume the title should include the
word thread because of how symbolic it is throughout the work. Stafford knows this feeling is
universal; the title indicates the reader will understand. Throughout the poem, the tone remains
unvarnished, playing to the logical side of the issue. People will always misunderstand others this
is the way it is.
By writing The Way It Is is second person, Stafford further explores the universal aspect of
explanation. In certain instances, one might think in second person, as possibly reassurance or
motivation. Once one disassociates themselves from montra, it can become more powerful, in a
way. This poem is able to speak to every individual reading it because this is how humans have
broad ideas. There is a unique relationship between the narrator and the reader, when second person
is used. Because second person is used, the reader begins to assume the narrator is an omnipotent
being; they

caused in humans mainly from a bacterium called Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. Mycobacterium
Tuberculosis was first described by Robert Koch as unusual with waxy coating on its cell
surface. TB can also affect the cattle from a bacterium called Mycobacterium Bovis. Evidences

TREATMENTS
Medication is one of the easiest ways to treat TB. Treating TB takes much longer than other types of
bacterial infections. It usually takes about 6 9 months of continuous use of antibiotics. Patients age,
overall health and drug resistance, type of TB and where infection is located determines which drug
is suitable for the patient.
Treatments for Latent TB
If the patient is suffering from latent TB it means the patient ha mycobacterium Tuberculosis
bacterium in his body, but they are inactivated. To treat TB infection it is most important that the
patient consults their doctor. Most common medicine used for this type of TB is isoniazid (INH. In
most of the cases this medicine would take about 6 months (if taken regularly) to kill all the
inactivated bacterium.
Side effects of Isoniazid
Stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, rash, fever, tingling in the fingers or toes, vomiting
and loss of appetite.
To prevent these side effects the doctor may give the patient pyridoxine (vitamin B6) tablets.
Treatments for TB disease
Pulmonary TB
To treat TB disease doctors usually prescribe a mixture of four antibiotics. These antibiotics are
1. Isoniazid
2. Rifampicin
3. Pyrazinamide
4. Ethambutol
At the beginning of the treatment doctors recommend patients to stay at home so they don t pass

ISO 9000 Essay
This paper I have written contains a lot of information about ISO 9000 and Quality Management
Systems. I will first talk about some of the history and origins of the ISO phenomenon. I will also
mention some of the changes and elements of the Quality Management Systems, financial issues,
pros and cons of being certified, and the relationship ISO 9000 has with ISO 14000.
The International Organization for Standardization was founded shortly after the end of World War

The first set of standards was published in 1987, and the first revision appeared in 1994. And
now the latest updated version in 2000. These new standards are referred to as the ISO 9000 2000
Standards . ISO 9000 currently includes three quality standards: ISO 9000:2000 (fundamentals and
vocabulary), ISO 9001:2000 (requirements), and ISO 9004:2000 (guidelines).
When you compare ISO 9001:1994 and ISO 9001:2000 you ll notice a lot of different changes
that have been undergone. ISO has abandoned the 20 clause structure of the old standard. Instead
of 20 sections, the new standard now has 5 sections. ISO reorganized the ISO 9001 standard in
order to create a more logical structure, and in order to make it more compatible with the ISO
14001 environmental management standard. ISO 9001:2000 is more customer oriented than the
old standard. While the old standard was also oriented towards meeting customer requirements and
achieving customer satisfaction, the new standard addresses this in much greater detail. In addition,
it expects you to communicate with customers and to measure and monitor customer satisfaction.
In the past, organizations that wished to be certified were referred to as suppliers because they
supplied products and services to customers. Since many people were confused by this usage, ISO
standards focus on the organization, not the

The Cost of Living by Carlos Fuentes, starts with Salvador Renteria and his wife Ana. Ana has
been in bed for two weeks and is very ill. Salvador comforts his wife while she is lying in bed. He
tells her not to worry and that she will get better soon. Salvador shows his love for his wife while
she is sick. She asked Salvador to check her messages at the office, he told her that the office

King Arthur Literary Analysis
The name King Arthur appears throughout a countless amount of literature, stories, cinema, and
legend. King Arthur has always been a long standing icon of heroism, and heroism is a theme
mankind takes pleasure in romanticizing. Arthurian Romance is the classic example of good
versus evil, knights in shining armor, forbidden love, and sorcery; the basic elements of a
romanticized tale. And in a dark time where religion clashed, empires fought in epic battles, and
the people of Britain suffered from poverty and disease, Arthurian legend was needed to lift the
spirits of the hopeless. Arthurian Romance is an accurate portrayal of the time period better known

This split was born from disputes over whether the Pope could marry and iconoclasm (similar to
worshipping false idols) and the use of local languages in church. They were even in dispute
regarding the nature of God. The Crusades were another religious dispute. The Crusades were
military campaigns undertaken by European Christians of the eleventh through the fourteenth
centuries to take other the Holy Land and convert Muslims to Christianity. The First Crusade was
a response to the Seljuk Turks conquering the Holy Land (present day Israel and Palestine).
However, most of these conquests were failures and achieved nothing except for interactions with
the Arab world (in both beneficial and devastating ways). Lastly, there was the Inquisition. This
was a formalized interrogation and persecution process of heretics (including satanic or witch like
behavior). Punishment for people suspected of heresy was torture and execution. The Church in
the Middle Ages is clearly an influential factor of these times. The Medieval Ages also saw quite a
bit of political changes. The Carolingian, established by Charles Martel, ruled present day France,
Belgium, Germany and Northern Italy. His grandson, Charlemagne established the Holy Roman

Reasons For College Dropout
The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are
usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through
high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely
unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to
college is the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many
students take classes that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable
classes to avoid homework and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend
college, the difficulty of the classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases
rapidly. The students sometimes expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing
work or an unattended test. However, college professors expect students to read and learn on their
own outside of class. If the students don t this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades
usually discourages some of the students and ultimately causes them to quit college. Another reason
for college dropoutis excessive partying and drug abuse. Freshman students sometimes get carried
away with hanging out with friends and partying. They forget to work on their projects or study
for a test and eventually realize their grades are slipping. Sooner or later, they start having too
much fun and lose

Sfakianos The piece that I chose to write about is entitled The Birth of Venus and was painted by
the French artist Nicolas Poussin. This painting was sold to Catherine the Great of Russia in
1771. It was sold another time by the Hermitage Museum in 1932 when the Soviet government
was desperate for western currency. It was then that it was acquired for the Philadelphia Museum
of Art. The painting was made in Italy in either the year 1635 or 1636. The medium that Poussin
used was oils on canvas, and the size of the painting is roughly around 38 by 42 inches. This
painting is considered to be included the Baroque period. (Philadelphia Museum of Art) Along side

A blue cloth is flowing in the wind behind him, sort of draping off of his back like a cape. Behind
him are a man and a woman farther in the background. The man is standing in the water while
the woman is sitting on what looks like a porpoise. On both sides of the center three women are
two men with wreaths on on top of their heads, and they are blowing into what looks like horns.
On the right side of the painting are three more figures. One is a woman sitting on top of a rock
with a white cloth underneath her bottom. Her back is facing towards the viewer and she seems
to be looking towards the man on the other shell. She holds a green cloth on the top of her head
with her right arm while resting on her left arm for support. There is also a tipped vase in front of
the rock that is spilling water into the ocean. To her right is a muscular man holding a woman
on his back. Behind the two is an orange yellow cloth flowing in the wind. In the front of venus
is an cherub angel laying on an orange yellow cloth with it s arms around the head of a sea
creature. Above the pink cloth that Venus is holding up are six more cherub angels. Some are
dropping flowers down on the congregation and some have their little bow and arrows out. There
is a lot of clouds in the sky behind them. On the clouds to the left is a chariot being carried by

How Does Colonel Cathcart Use Satire In Catch 22
Power is without a doubt the one thing that divides people from one another. Catch 22 (book)
relates tremendously to the thought of power in the wrong hands. Many characters abuse this to
their own self greed to achieve their own personal goals. Without paying attention to how it
could affect the environment around him or her. The setting of the book takes place near the
end of World War II, the characters in the story are mostly soldiers and officers during that time.
High ranking officers are the big shots giving out orders, while the low ranking officers take and
do. Colonel Cathcart is one that treats power to his own selfish desire, not in any way evil, but
for the greater good that he thinks is the best option. His desire for the greater good of the United
States, is to raise the amount of flying missions to eighty five. Reason being is that he doesn t
want anybody to go home and wants a little joke here and there. However, some characters like
Yossarian don t see this as a fit rule to apprehend, he reaches the certain number to go home, yet

The genre of the novel is set to dark comedy, a sense that the humor is deeply scary to think about
but funny in a way that you have to process all the bad stuff out. It does still reflect the theme

with his friends to hear a preliminary briefing about another flight mission. To this, their plan is
to bomb an innocent village to roadblock a road so the Germans have a delay in their planning.
However, Colonel Cathcart really wants to just bomb the village to have a good aerial
photograph to send to a HQ, they don t care about the roadblock (Heller 327 328). As recalled

Urban Mass Transportation Administration (FTA)
Introduction
Transportation investment increased significantly with highway systems created during the 1940 s
and the impressive interstate system program of the 1950 s. Massively subsidized by the federal
government, these surface initiatives connected States from coast to coast, but concurrently made
suburban living feasible, while eroding inner city investment (Shoup Lang, 2011). Later, when the
streetcar, rail, and bus systems within cities began to falter and fade, President Kennedy suggested
federal investment in urban transportation. However, it wasn t until President Johnson signed the
Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 that government funding for mass transit and the Urban
Mass Transportation Administration were established (Federal Transit Administration [FTA], n.d.).
A decade later, the National Mass Transportation Assistance Act created formula grant funding to
assist with operating expenses of public and nonprofit transit agencies. While signing the Act,
President Gerald Ford (1974) announced the legislation would enable localities to plan intelligently
for their long term needs and offer financial support which can be used for rural transportation.
Since those initial transportation initiatives, transit planning and appropriations have continued to
expand. Fitting to the larger role, in 1991 the Urban Mass Transportation Administration was
rechristened the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
From the initiation of funding public transit, the

Monologue In The Messenger
Markus Zusak s, The Messenger features the protagonist Ed Kennedy, and how he completed
each mission of aces; diamonds, clubs, spades and hearts. The suit of spades was symbolic to Ed
s overall mission as Ed had to dig through truths about himself. Before the suit of spades Ed s
thought of himself was that he was worth nothing, evident through the narration of Ed s
monologue. The suit of spades saw Ed wanting more for his life, evident through the
characterisation of Ed, the changes in his monologue. The start of the novel Ed s narration and
dialogue of himself showed that Ed believed he did not deserve happiness, to be better, to love that
he would amount to nothing. The very first introduction of what how Ed saw himself was when he

That if he wanted to be better, happy and loved he first would have to see himself in a happy,
loved and better light. Each mission saw Ed bring something to someone else but spades was
the final trial I need to dig myself out of (282). Therefore spades was symbolic as it saw Ed
change his opinion on himself, recognising that he had to do something, if he wanted to be more
than nothing. I d rather chase the sun than wait for it (306), and If I ever leave this place... I ll
make sure I m better here first (307). Both these quotes show how Ed s mind frame has shifted
from accepting that he was nobody to wanting to be something. The use of the pronoun I
emphasises the fact that Ed accepts that he has to do it himself. It shows how Ed realises that he
is the only that can do it, that he cannot rely on anyone else. This want for changing himself
meant Ed s view on himself was not to scrutinise but rather realise. Realisation in that driving a
cab and renting a fibro shack can t be the final answer of my life. (331). This want to change and
realisation that he could do, sets up Ed to physically do something about it. The aim of the Ace
of Spades, was to lay the foundation of realisation that if Ed wanted to change he would have to
do it himself. That in order to become somebody to others, he would have to become somebody to
himself. Other people only started to recognise how Ed s change, after the ace of spades, Now you

Stephen Crane Naturalism Essay
My interpretation of Crane s poem, the deeds people tell of war only tell that of the battles, the
hardship, no one hears about the angels on the battlefield or the interactions that happen outside of
battle. He sees the romantic view, and yet the naturalistic view at the same time. Though he leans
more in the direction of romanticism, he does include some naturalism in his writing. For example,
from The Red Badge of Courageby Stephen Crane, he states, He developed the acute exacerbation
of a pestered animal, a well meaning cow worried by dogs. Represents a naturalistic state of
mind, but nevertheless, he mostly relies on romanticism. Naturalism, nature doesn t care. It s
every animal for themselves. As for the Romantic side of things, from The Veteran by Stephen
Crane, he writes, When the roof fell in, a great funnel of smoke swarmed toward the sky, as if the
old man s mighty spirit, released from its body a little bottle had swelled like the genie of fable. ...

Edgar Allan Poe Homoeroticism Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe s multifaceted representation of homoeroticism through The Murders in the Rue
Morgue, The Mystery of Marie RГґget, and The Purloined Letter is truly a departure from typical
nineteenth century portrayals of same sex desire within literature. Rather than being something that
Poe strives to suppress, the homoeroticism present throughout all three Dupin tales is meticulously
ingrained into the structure of the texts and unapologetically nurtured, whether it be through
individual characters behavior or through the explicit exploration of homosocial relationships
between men. What allows Dupin, the narrator, and the Minister s this foray into the realm of non
normative sexuality is Poe s embrace of the nineteenth century bachelor

Australian Gold Rush
Introduction:
The gold rush era was a significant event in Australian history. The Australian gold rush first
started during May 1851 in Bathurst after Edward Hargraves found a grain of gold in a waterhole.
The gold rush was a period of time for immigration of workers locally and from overseas and
marked the start of significant changes in the Australian economy.
Where and why did the gold rush occur?
Hargraves thought there were similarities in the geological features between Australiaand
Californian Goldfields where he had just returned from. He was proven to be correct and
quickly registered his claims with local authorities. The first Gold Fields in NSW where given
the name of Ophir and was appointed a Commission of Land and received a reward of 10,000

The And The Sacrifice Of Isaac By Peter Paul
A painting is a scene, frozen in time. Artists can bring them to life. Catching the emotions of
whatever is depicted. The bible is full of memorable scenes, with thousands of years of art to
capture the intensity of the stories.
My Journey to The Sacrifice of Isaac by Peter Paul Rubens begin when I saw a painting at the
Nelson Atkins Museum of Art almost six years ago in a grand room, with tens of other paintings
and high, echoing ceilings. I stood in front of a massive, Renaissance era piece. Without looking at
the title or artist s statement, I knew it was of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. It had the iconic look of
one of the most infamous stories from the bible.
And when I remembered that painting, years later, I knew that would be the focus of this paper.
So, with my painting in mind, I went to KSU online Hale Library ARTstor Abraham and Isaac .
But there were too many paintings. And the majority of them looked the same. After clicking
through about a dozen paintings from the Louvre, of Rembrandt and Domenichino and not finding
the specific painting from my memory, I went to the Nelson Atkins website and then cross
referenced with the list ARTstor was offering. The painting was Peter Paul Rubens The Sacrifice
of Isaac and I can say, details get lost in memory.

when it came to description, that wasn t an impossible feat. The binding of Isaac was similar in the

King Tut s Curses

but it really came into focus around the 20th century with the expedition of King Tut s tomb, but
there is still conflict about whether it s real or just fiction.
It was when Lord Carnarvon funded for the search of King Tut s tomb with Howard Carter and

Ancient Egyptians did have curses, although they are usually in the form of threats and occur
mainly of citizens rather than royalty. A observation may indicate that royalty had protection
against their enemies through other sources (Silverman). Most of the curses came from
inscriptions on walls in the private tombs of the Old KIngdom, during the time when royal
tombs were decorated with a set of spells called Pyramid Texts that were meant as directions for
the king (Silverman). It s rare for curses to relate to tombs, because such an idea was unthinkable
and even dangerous ( The Curse of the Pharaohs ). Curses that have been seen in the headlines
are rarely ever true. Egyptians did in fact understand the power of negative thinking and their
curses are far from a mystery (Silverman). Their suggestive remarks were those who might act
against them and it was accomplished in written word, so in aspects of Egyptian culture the curse
would survived as long as the monument on which it was written on (Silverman). There have been
other royal tombs that were said to have the same curse as King Tut s and were opened with no

Why Should Smoking Be Banned In Public Essay
The numbers of people who smoke have increase over the years. Although they are equipped with
the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It is a personal
choice and a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of
smoking. It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should
be allowed to smoke. However, smokingdoes not only affect the smoker negatively. It also affects
all the people around those who smoke because when people smoke in pubic the smoke travels
everywhere through the air, and the negative effects of this smoke affects all living, breathing
creatures. Therefore smoking should be banned in all public places.
People who smoke in public portray a bad example. Children are easily influenced in their growing
stages. They imitate the people around them because they cannot differentiate between right and
wrong. Therefore they perceive the actions they see around them as the way things should be.
Besides that, teenagers who see people smoke in public take it as precedent to start smoking as
well. There is a saying that goes monkey see monkey do, which tells us that people imitate the
actions of others as they see it in their daily lives. Teenagers happen to think that smoking makes a
person cool. When they see adults doing it on the streets it strengthens their belief in the coolness of
smoking. Some teenagers think that smoking marks their transition into

Pig s Responsibility In The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
The Story of the Three Little Pigs originated in England in 1890. In this fairytale their mother,

After the third time of being outsmarted the wolf becomes angry and climbs down the pig s

falls into. In the end, the pig eats the wolf. In The Story of the Three Little Pigsthe third pig

This region was the first region for humanity to move from a semi nomadic lifestyle to a more

civilizations that this region held are the Sumerians, Babylonians, and Assyrians. These three large
civilizations are the founders of these legacies. Some of these legacies are huge advancements in

based their math off of 60, which is why there are only sixty numbers (Shuttleworth 2010). These
used this math for everything even astronomy and mathematic functions. This math allowed
them to keep track of larger amounts of things easier and even keep track of records for things
like accounting. Even though they did not have any numbers over sixty doesn t mean they
couldn t track more. They showed anything of sixty as sixty plus whatever else is left over. This
base of sixty is not used for everything that we do in our daily life. We still use the base of sixty
for time mainly. We still have sixty seconds in a minute and sixty minutes in an hour. Later
throughout Mesopotamia the Babylonians eventually started to base their numbers off of ten and
they had symbols for single, tens, and hundreds. Even though this was their main gift to us in our
modern world these still have some more advancements in mathematics. This math allowed them to
use decimals and fractions. They were able to make a twelve month calendar with this math. The
Babylonians believed that there was 360 days in a year, which divided by sixty

Hitcher, Education For Leisure, My Last Duchess, and The Lab
Hitcher By Simon Armitage, Education For Leisure By Carol Anne
Duffy, My Last Duchess and The Lab by Robert Browning are all poems that deal with violence or
the prospect of violence.
Hitcher is a poem about a man who is angry at being threatened with the sack, he picks up a hitch
hiker and kills him and then leaves him on the road side. The poetic voice seems to be psychotic
and also talks about the attack in a casual manner.
Ed for Leisure also deals with a bitter person who feels he has been let down by society. As he

Simple and direct language is used by Armitage to demonstrate the characters casual attitude to
violence. It is also used in Ed for Leisure to help create the short staccato lines such as Today I am
going to kill something. Anything.
Both poems by Robert Browning are dramatic monologues, The Lab is a mixture of the main
characters thoughts and her words to the apothecary. She seems very similar to the main characters
in both Ed for Leisure and Hitcher as an insane twisted side of her character is exposed...
The lady in The Laboratory is plotting to murder the mistress of her lover and seems very excited
about the prospect of death. In asking the apothecary, Wot that I bid you spare her the pain; she
shows that she wants her victim to die slowly and painfully. This demonstrates a craving for
violence like the characters in Armitage and Duffy s poems. As well as sharing the structure of a
dramatic monologue, The Lab is also arranged in stanzas like the previous two poems and contains
rhyme like Hitcher . The second poem by Robert
Browning is called My Last Duchess like the other 3 poems it is a dramatic monologue and shares
the same rhyme scheme as The Lab . The poetic voice talks about how his wife was too flirtatious
and how it was not only him that brought smiles to her face. After a while, he grew tired of not
being appreciated, gave orders and her smile stopped all together.

first year in middle school. Because my piano teacher was the music teacher at the elementary
school I had to have a new piano teacher since I didn t go to that school anymore. When I was
with my old teacher, she said that I didn t have to do any recitals. Well now I have a different
teacher, so that will change. My mom had just picked me up from my pianolesson. My teacher
talked about a piano recitaland about the song I would play. I had said I didn t want to do more
than one song and she said that was fine. My mom and I were discussing it in the car. The recital
is going to be on ??????. Stated mom. My stomach dropped. That s pretty soon. ... Show more

I went downstairs, had breakfast and played the song. My fingers kept hitting the wrong keys
and getting out of rhythm. I realized that I was playing too much and that I was just stressed out
and couldn t play it right. I took a deep breath and played it slowly. I played the song with only
one tiny error and then stopped, afraid I would overdo it. The only other time I played the song
was a few minutes before we had to leave. By the time we left I had started to get really worried.
It was a ??? minute drive to the building that the recital would be at. (My piano teacher s church)
When we got out I saw other people arriving. Some I knew and some I didn t. We walked in and
down some stairs into the worship area. There were already quite a few sitting down, so we took
a seat in the middle closer to the back. I was really nervous by then. My hands were sweating and
I felt hot. We looked at a piece of paper to see that I was playing my song ???. ( ex. 5th) There
was ???? people playing in all. I sat with my mom, dad, and brother waiting for it to begin.
Finally it did. My piano teacher went up to the stage and thanked everyone for being there. She
then called out the student playing and their song. The student walked up and played their song.
The teacher continued to introduce the students until it was my turn. I unsteadily walked up to
the piano while the teacher placed my song up on the piano. I stared at the paper and began to
play the song. I was so nervous that I couldn t even read the notes. My hands played the notes
without me even thinking about what they were doing. Near the end of the song I could ve
moved my hands up a few notes to play at a higher octave, (a higher set of the same notes) but
decided not to incase I messed

Attila The Hun s Influence On The European Empire
Attila The Hun
Research Paper
Attila The Hun was a ruthless and brutal leader that devastated the European empire. He reigned
over what was then Europe s largest empire, from 434 until his death. His empire stretched from
Central Europe to the Black Sea and from the Danube River to the Baltic. During his rule, he was
among the direst enemies of the Eastern and Western Roman Empires; he invaded the Balkans
twice and surrounded Constantinople in the second invasion. In much of Western Europe, he is
remembered as the model of cruelty and rape. At an early age Attila was shipped off to be a
hostage to the Romans. While he was there he had to learn the fighting techniques of the Romans.
The empire taught Attila in its courts, customs and traditions and in its grand lifestyle, in the hope
that he would take respect of these things back to his tribe. The Huns Probably have hoped that
Attila would study the Romans battle skills and how they attacked. While he was there he saw the
riches that the Romans had. No one is certain about his childhood before the age of twelve. When

Showering Assistance Research Paper
Home Helpers and Showering Assistance Showers and baths are an essential part of cleanliness
and emotional well being. Sadly, the refreshing and invigorating thrill of a relaxing shower is
something that often becomes more difficult to obtain as we age. From limited mobility to pain
or even disability, many seniors need showering assistance. Home helpers can provide that
assistance. Since the primary concern of any help is your loved one s safety, the first thing home
helpers can assist you with is an analysis of your loved one s bathing facilities. Based upon their
mobility, they can suggest many different options. Physical assistance devices include grab bars
and gates. Physical support such as shower chairs and transfer chairs and stools... Show more

Since their skin is typically drier, they may not have the physical need to shower as often as they
did when they were younger. However, showering has many more benefits beyond just cleaning.
The process of a daily sponge bath ensures that seniors who spend a lot of time in the bed are
properly lotioned and checked for bed sores. A full shower should be given at least once a week,
however, to prevent the build up of lotion and body oils. Perhaps most importantly, bathing and
showering a senior who is bedridden is an opportunity to share a gentle human touch. Moving
the arms and legs around and providing a short massage provides relief for still muscles. The
creaming of the body also provides essential human contact. For many seniors who spend most
of their time in a bed, this may be the only physical contact they get in the day. For seniors who
are able to provide much of their own bathing but simply need support, a shower is the last stand
of independence. It is time when they can just let the water wash away their cares for a moment.
Senior often fear the day that this simple solace will be taken away. With home helper support, it

Integrity In Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
To contain a life, or even some fraction of it, in a single book is certainly a tall order among tall
orders. But Jane Erye is so thoroughly and immersively suffused with the minutest realities of
adolescence and early adulthood that I can t help but see every life in it. The eponymous heroine
s story is mine, yours, his, hers, theirs, anyone s, everyone s. Analyzing the novel via Virginia
Woolf s literary catechism, however, yields something of an oddity. For all its banal but tangible
plausibility, which was so many pages and episodes and humanities in the making, BrontГ« s novel
does not accord with the ideals Woolf crusades for, namely concepts that the latter refers to as
integrity and incandescence. Who s afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Near the book s end, the titular character has had her much vaunted wedding to Edward
Rochester spoiled by the news that he in fact already has a wife: the frothing, feral Bertha
Mason. This news, coupled with the Georgian/Victorian taboo against bigamy, and the revelation
that Rochester has been deliberately hiding the mentally ill Bertha from Jane (and in the same
house, no less) the entire time, sees Jane leave Thornfield to essentially wander England, aimless
and alone. Eventually, she reaches a crossroads both literally and metaphorically called
Whitcross, which leads her to a seemingly random village, wherein she s (semi miraculously)
reunited with three cousins she never knew she had: St. John, Diana, and Mary Rivers. This
discovery is especially important to Jane, considering that she s almost never had anyone she
could sincerely call family, let alone love and endear as such. One personal tragedy (i.e. regarding
Rochester), it seems, is met with an equally happy turn of chance lose a lover, gain a family. But if

Argumentative Essay On Twisted Heroes
The word hero is often associated with words that depict an ideal hero such as brave, strong,
good hearted, and trustworthy. Heroes are often seen as police officers, firefighters, first
responders, and service men and women. Hero has a positive connotation that gives the feeling of
safety. Thinking back to one s childhood is a prime example of the feeling of safety one had in the
presence of a herosuch as a firefighter or police officer who went to schools to teach children about
fire safety and emergency situations. Despite the the idea that heroes are easily identified, there are,
however, many unrecognizable heroes known as twisted heroes. A twisted hero is at first is
resented because they seem to have ulterior motives for change or try to initiate change that is seen
as unneeded, resulting in being ostracized by the community. However, the twisted hero often times

Ideal heroes motives are seen as positive and they are approved by the community. Contrary to an
ideal hero, twisted heroes are disliked and their motives are seen as negative. As time

example, once Han submitted to Om, he was on the inside of the group and was able to get to

California State Budget
The state of California along with many other states has gone through periods of recessions. The
major difference between California and other states is the difference how California manages the
state budget. The California governor creates a budget and is sent to the Department of Finance.
The Department then modifies the budget according to the likings of the governor. The governor
can have a deficit but must fit the deficit into next years budget. A deficit refers to a shortage of
funds and can create problems when creating the state budget. If there is a surplus (abundant
amount of revenue) in the budget then the governor has the power to create programs that are
politically advantageous. During times of financial crisis the process of... Show more content on

During Governor Pete Wilson term in the 1990s his main goal was to eliminate the huge budget
gap. Many of the changes that were done in the budget involved taxes and expenditures. During
this period of time, although there was not a complete unified of government, most democrats
and republicans were able to negotiate with each other and were able to have majority vote to
raise taxes and its deficit rules were also unclear at the time. Both situations are similar despite
time differences. Similarities include a strong unified government, and weak anti deficit rules.
Governor Pete Wilson was able to have both parties agree to cut back on programs and increase
revenue by increasing taxes. The only difference that can occur and has occurred is the response
from the citizens. During the 1990s investments in technology came out successful therefore
having more people paying more taxes. If the citizens today were to be given a vote to increase
taxes, most would not agree. This is because the state of the economy reflects largely on how
California becomes affected. During Wilson s term, technology was a new concept and there were
many successful investments that increased many citizens income. Both situations are similar and

3 Types Of State Legislatures
Felipe Lozano
The United States has based its political roots over certain rules, one of them being the separation
of powers between the federal government and the states. This rule gives every state certain liberty
to the states, such as choosing their own type of state legislature. In the United States, the state
legislatures have been chosen according to the commodities of each state, their necessities and
other factors, such as geographic region, population size, or area size. The comparison between the
several options of state legislatures can be observable through the level of professionalization that
every state has produced throughout the legislatorial period. There are three different types of
legislature in the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the State Legislature of Texas, as a hybrid legislature, has proved both annual and
biennial sessions and budgets, but even then, it has been a challenge to achieve a great rate of
passing bills. Even when the Governor of Texas has the power to summon a special session; like
16 other states, the rate of passing bills has been decreasing lower than 25% from the total of
bills proposed (Zelinski, 2017). Furthermore, the session length is the factor that engulfs the
management of time over legislatorial sessions. This control opens a possible influence over the
political agenda of the party in control over the legislature, where there is a potential advantage
taken by the governors, thus impacting state business and affairs. To illustrate this, the usual
time of session for the North Dakota legislature is sixty six days over a two year period, there
would be a 0.78% increase in the state s budget by the propositions of the governor (Kousser and
Philips, 2009). In addition, the variation on the amount of compensation for legislators has
become a key factor over the professionalization level throughout the states. For example, a
lawmaker in Illinois would receive a base salary of $67,836 per year and a per diem rate, per each
day of session, of $111. On the other hand, a state lawmaker in Idaho is going to receive $16,438
as a base salary and a per diem rate ranging from $25 to $122 (NCSL, 2014 State Legislator
Compensation). Therefore, it is common to see that states where their legislators are being paid
higher salaries, such as in California, Pennsylvania or Illinois, are being ranked at a higher level of
professionalization, rather than part time legislature states, like New Hampshire or Utah. As a
factor of

Bolshevik And Menshevik Party Essay
Angered by the current status of the political system, the working class in early 20th century
Russia was ready to fight for a change. The Bolshevik party, a branch of the Russian Social
Democratic Worker s Party (RSDWP) led by Vladimir I. Lenin, rose to power through a series of
revolutions, fighting for a societal evolution that would lead a once capitalist Russiainto a
communistic political powerhouse. Two parties represented the left wing of the RDSWP, both
wanting similar changes. Both the Menshevik and Bolshevik parties desired a socialist society,
though their approaches to change the capitalistic society differed. The Menshevik party believed
in a wide appeal; they thought that their strength was in their numbers. Contrarily, the Bolsheviks...

By World War 1, the Bolshevik party was the only political party in Russia to fight vocally to end
the war, insisting that it was dividing the working class and leading them to death. Due to this
vocalization, the leaders of the movement were arrested; Lenin had escaped from the arrests and
moved to Switzerland, leaving behind a small core group who supported the movement. On
April 4, 1917, Lenin returned to Russia to give his April Thesis to Social Democratic Parties. He
pushed a new program, stating that it was time to start a socialist society before a bourgeois
government was permanent. Moreover, he established a tactical program to stir a revolution for a
proletariat. Their slogan, Peace, Land and Bread, highlighted the three areas the party believed
were necessary for success, of which to current government was failing to excel at. Particularly,
the provisional government lacked an agrarian program, left urban populations starving to help
the war, and they, according to Lenin, were in need of a new offensive. Lenin emphasized most
that all power should be left with the soviets. As a result, on October 24 25, 1917, Lenin and the
Bolshevik party led Russian workers and peasants to overthrow the Provisional government and set
up a soviet government. The revolution resulted in peace on all fronts, and enabled the party to take

Commercial Stirs Controversy Essay
Of course, the Super Bowl can be considered the most watched television recording in American
history. As a result of withholding the attention of such a vast audience, many commercials are
showcased during the Super Bowl games, creating a commodity in which those commercials are
watched more than the Super Bowl games themselves. A mass amount of viewers can
unquestionably be beneficial to advertisers seeking to sell their products and services. However,
benefits are not the only things these ads invoke, detriment can occur as well, as seen throughout
history among a variety of television commercials. The Coca Cola commercial, displayed during
Super Bowl XLVII, is one of the most recent commercials that has been scrutinized. The Coca Cola

The commercial also incorporated a presentation of the country s varying sprawling landscapes
and metropolitan areas, along with Americans of different ethnicities, races, and families
partaking in real life activities. With these elements: a patriotic song, playing on emotion, and an
invocation of profound imagery, we see several of the tactics mentioned in both articles tackled in
Coke s commercial. So why did Coca Cola receive such monumental uproar, if it made use of some
of the fifteen basic appeals that make ads effective? Ultimately, the ad received backlash because,
many [people] think that America the Beautiful is the country national anthem and English is this
country s national language, noted in Indian Country Today ( Coca Cola s America the Beautiful

Today, Damien Croghan, editor of the Daily Nebraskan, asserts Xenophobic Americans feel that the
presence of non English languages representing our country somehow threatens their perceived
idea of what it means to be American (par 11). The people who took to social networking sites to
discuss their concerns tend to believe the use of any language other than English is un American.

Diapers Lab Report
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to figure out which brand of diapers has the highest
absorbency, out of Huggies, Pamper and the no name brand.
Hypothesis:
I believe that the Huggies diaper will be the best overall. I believe this because; it is the most
expensive, most inflated, and is the densest. The structure also seemed to have the ability to hold
more fluid compared to the others, this made it very reliable.
Materials:
~Three (or more if you wish) brands of diapers *We used Huggies, Pampers, and the no name brand.
~Writing utensils
~Water *We used approximately 1L
~Food colouring (optional) *We used different colours for each trail.

~First interval, absorbed surprisingly fast.

~When we squeezed it, it held up pretty well. Conclusion:
The purpose of the experiment was to determine which brand of diapers has the highest
absorbency, out of Huggies, Pamper and the No Name brand. Our experiment was simple. It
consisted of three different trials; in each, we changed a variable. In the first trail, we poured the
60mL through three interval, we let the 20mL sit for two minutes, between the sections. During the
second trial, we poured the whole 60mL at one. Finally, in the last trial we poured three segments
of 80mL, waiting about 30 second to 70 second in between. I found it interest that how big of an

The Man With The Twisted Lip By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
The short story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Man with the Twisted Lip, is based on disguises
of wealth and appearance and how these disguises change the point of view that people have in
the social classes and what they think about each other during the Victorian Era. Disguises can
be used to create an identity for one s own personal gain or to protect an individual s identity.
Neville St. Claire uses disguise to validate his place as a gentleman. His status as a beggar allows
him to become the successful gentleman that he should be, by concealing his true self to the social
classsystem. Sherlock Holmes uses his persona as a protection to keep the people of London
safe and out of harms way. Between the two personalities of St. Claire and Holmes is the
outcome of what others may think of them; St. Claire knows the identity that he has created is
not accepted by the social class while Sherlock Holmes identity is seen as a hero and is accepted
by the social class. One uses his disguise purely for monetary gain and the other uses the identity
in order to solve mysteries and protect his city. As shown in the The Man with the Twisted Lip ,
disguise is only allowed when the social class accepts the identity. Despite the fact that St. Claire
and Holmes created new identities through disguise, St. Claire is shamed of his identity while
Holmes is respected. Both disguises have various goals. St. Claire hides behind the facade of a
beggar for the purpose of increasing his

Well, he has some info that we can t let the public find out about us. If they do, this whole
company is done for. The employer explained.
Understood.
After a while, the hit man was ready to eliminate his target. He figured that the best way to keep

Gridlocks stop copious bills from being passed, this results and leads to benefit the political
system. There are various bills that are constantly being introduced to the legislative system but
most of them do not proceed to get passed. Copious bills are being introduced each year but
unfortunately due to gridlocks only about 4 5% of bills get passed due to the high amount of
gridlocks occurring within the government. The copious bills that are not being pass could have

  • 2. Nietzsche s Critique of Judeo-Christian Values Nietzsche s critique of Judeo Christian values As perhaps one of the most important pieces of work written by Nietzsche, On the Genealogy of Morality contains some of his most complex and provocative thoughts on the nature of morality and its origins. It is evident throughout his essays that Nietzsche has a profound discontent with modern society and its values, a discontent that Nietzsche attempts to explain through a thorough critique of the modern values that have stemmed from the rise of Judeo Christianity values that have shaped today s civilization. In his analysis of concepts such as morality and guilt, he explores the history of the deformation of the once noble and animalistic human society that succumbed to its death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, their intelligence became their weapon against the nobles. Nietzsche expresses this when he states priests make the worst enemies...because they are the most powerless. Out of this powerlessness, their hate swells into something huge and uncanny to a most intellectual and poisonous level (17). Among all of the priestly caste, however, Nietzsche identifies the Jews to be the most hateful, and characterizes them as being the most entrenched with priestly vengefulness (17). The desire of the clerical caste to effect their revenge on the nobles in the form of a revaluation of the their moral code was the embodiment of their ressentiment turning itself from thought and into action. Nietzsche expresses this when he states The beginning of the slaves revolt in morality occurs when ressentiment itself turns creative and gives birth to values: the ressentiment of those beings who, denied the proper response of action, compensate for it only with imaginary revenge (20). Nietzsche associates the slave revolt in morality with the priestly castes, namely the Jews , dedicated and deliberate desire to implement their revenge through the creation and revaluation of morals, stating with regard to the huge and incalculably disastrous initiative taken by the Jews with this most fundamental of all declarations of war...the slaves revolt in morality begins with the Jews: a revolt which has two thousand years of history behind it (17). Honestly there have been times where my feelings were hurt nonetheless, I am grateful to know I can always depend on him to tell it like it is. Hmong Culture Essays Hmong Culture Food, Eating and Cooking Diverse Cultures in America Soc 240 Upper Iowa University The Hmong people are originally from rural mountainous areas in Laos and they still inhabit that country to this day. Laos is a country that is located in Southeast Asia. Hmong people are divided into clans or tribes that share the same paternal ancestry. The Hmong people inhabited all parts of Laos but all carried pretty much the same cultures and livelihood with them as many immigrated to the United States in the past few decades (Ohio State University, 2005). One of the important parts of Hmong culture is their food. The Hmong staple food is white rice. Their diets consist of a variety of vegetables, fish, meat and traditional ... If there is excess food grown, they are shared with fellow clan members. Hmong culture relies on many different methods for cooking meals and they are stir frying, boiling, steaming and roasting over an open fire. Vegetable oils and pork fats are the primary fats used in cooking if an oil is needed. Seasoning are also an essential part of cooking, they use soy sauce, hot peppers, ginger, garlic, coconut and lemon grass which are all quite commonly used. The Hmong culture does not usually use salt and pepper, since it was not readily available in Laos. But it is been found in more and more of American Hmong kitchens. There were many products that Hmong use today in America that were not readily available to them in Laos. Dairy products are one product which was unavailable most of the time in Laos, though at times goat milk was used to supplement diets. Many Hmong continue to not use dairy products because of the moderate percentage of Hmong that are lactose intolerant. The overall fat content in the Hmong diet is very low. The Hmong people eat relatively few sweets and do not participate in cooking these sweet items very often or at all (Kitler P. Schuer K. 1989). On this cold, dreary September night young two year old Mica is safely buckled in her child safety seat, which is attached to the passenger seat belt. Her older brother, Sean, quietly sleeps in the backseat while his mother drives the exhausted children home. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tall, 12 point buck is caught by the vehicles headlights. Both the buck and the mother freeze. A milli second later, a powerful explosion occurs inside the cabin. The airbags deflate nearly as quickly as they inflate, and Sean begins to scream. According to CNN, airbags have been credited with saving 1,100 lives since they have been introduced ( quot;Federal Safety Officials..... quot; 1). However, an article by CNNfn goes on to state, the airbags do nothing to cut the overall injury rate that occurs in accidents ( quot;Reports Knock Airbag Safety quot; 1). The airbags may be saving some lives. However, in other cases, they are doing more damage than good. USA Today broke the story on airbag performance. The news report told us that airbags deliver enough non lethal injuries to the passengers that it offsets their performance on overall injuries ( quot;Reports Knock Airbag Safety quot; 1). The net result: airbags have been found to cause injuries in so many accidents that the little good they do is overshadowed by the injuries they cause. Now that you understand some of the problems with the performance of airbags, let s look at another problem why they are unreliable. The reliability of airbags is questioned since they do not protect all sizes of bodies. When the first airbags were tested, the engineers didn t take into account the different sizes of people the bags would have to protect. They used a one sized dummy, similar to quot;Larry and ... • 7. Essay about Comapring Porters 5 Forces for the Airline... Assignment # 1 Strategic Practice Exercise: (page #81) 1. Score each competitive force in the airline industry and provide a brief rationale for your assessment. В·Rivalry Among Existing Firms: (High) When one major company in an industry makes a change in costs or services that could potentially increase their clientele, a major competitor almost always follows suit. Price matching is a prime example of that, therefore the threat is high. West Jet is one company that offers flights at a discount and forced Air Canada to create new banners to compete with the discounted prices. All major companies and firms in an industry watch each other s every move very carefully, and match any move with a countermove. During slow season in the airline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the threat of substitution is a significant factor in the airline industry. However, if a customer has to travel very quickly or a significant distance, that person would most likely choose the flight option instead of a cheaper alternative. В·Bargaining Power of Buyers/Distributors: (Medium) Bargaining power is a tricky one because it can work both ways. Buyers have a certain level of power in any industry. A buyer may switch suppliers very easily if there are no penalties and it is cost effective for them. If a large firm makes a large purchase of goods from another firm, it may be mutually beneficial and if serviced well, have the potential for repeat business. However, the buyer then has the power to use a substitute or competitor which would negatively affect the seller. Buyers are always the more powerful of the two because some buyers have the ability to put pressure on lower costs from suppliers, while demanding an increase of the quality of products or services provided to them. Also, the bargaining power in industries with high fixed costs like the airline industry can play a big factor. On the other hand, things like jet engines, tires and other key safety devices on aircrafts can cause severe consequences if this equipment malfunctions. For that reason, the buyer has a reduced amount of bargaining power with suppliers in this industry. The bargaining power of buyers is both high and low, so I ranked it medium. В·Bargaining ... Especially during the high school ages, young people are constantly ask about their futures, and although it is in good nature, the wanderertends to overstep and misunderstand. The first half of the poem appears to speak to an individual s plan: the attachment to the thread, the necessary explanation, the questions. Then, the second half seems to connect to the unalterable stream of life. As Stafford writes, you don t ever let go of the thread, the poem feels more like a death sentence. Intuition has been a strong factor in my plans for after high school and it can be confusing for another to understand. It is true, threads are unknowable to outsiders. However, empathy is a way around the barrier. No one needs to understand everything, but humans need to be less narrow minded for everyone to flourish. The title is an unqualified fact of life. Using simplistic words, the title becomes matter of fact. After reading the poem, one would assume the title should include the word thread because of how symbolic it is throughout the work. Stafford knows this feeling is universal; the title indicates the reader will understand. Throughout the poem, the tone remains unvarnished, playing to the logical side of the issue. People will always misunderstand others this is the way it is. By writing The Way It Is is second person, Stafford further explores the universal aspect of explanation. In certain instances, one might think in second person, as possibly reassurance or motivation. Once one disassociates themselves from montra, it can become more powerful, in a way. • 13. ISO 9000 Essay This paper I have written contains a lot of information about ISO 9000 and Quality Management Systems. I will first talk about some of the history and origins of the ISO phenomenon. I will also mention some of the changes and elements of the Quality Management Systems, financial issues, pros and cons of being certified, and the relationship ISO 9000 has with ISO 14000. The International Organization for Standardization was founded shortly after the end of World War II to bring commonality and uniformity to products as well as to a number of critical quality areas. ISO 9000 currently includes three quality standards: ISO 9000:2000 (fundamentals and vocabulary), ISO 9001:2000 (requirements), and ISO 9004:2000 (guidelines). When you compare ISO 9001:1994 and ISO 9001:2000 you ll notice a lot of different changes that have been undergone. ISO has abandoned the 20 clause structure of the old standard. Instead of 20 sections, the new standard now has 5 sections. ISO reorganized the ISO 9001 standard in order to create a more logical structure, and in order to make it more compatible with the ISO 14001 environmental management standard. ISO 9001:2000 is more customer oriented than the old standard. While the old standard was also oriented towards meeting customer requirements and achieving customer satisfaction, the new standard addresses this in much greater detail. In addition, it expects you to communicate with customers and to measure and monitor customer satisfaction. In the past, organizations that wished to be certified were referred to as suppliers because they supplied products and services to customers. Since many people were confused by this usage, ISO standards focus on the organization, not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Reasons For College Dropout The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to college is the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many students take classes that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable classes to avoid homework and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend college, the difficulty of the classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases rapidly. The students sometimes expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing work or an unattended test. However, college professors expect students to read and learn on their own outside of class. If the students don t this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades usually discourages some of the students and ultimately causes them to quit college. Another reason for college dropoutis excessive partying and drug abuse. Freshman students sometimes get carried away with hanging out with friends and partying. They forget to work on their projects or study for a test and eventually realize their grades are slipping. Urban Mass Transportation Administration (FTA) Introduction Transportation investment increased significantly with highway systems created during the 1940 s and the impressive interstate system program of the 1950 s. Massively subsidized by the federal government, these surface initiatives connected States from coast to coast, but concurrently made suburban living feasible, while eroding inner city investment (Shoup Lang, 2011). Later, when the streetcar, rail, and bus systems within cities began to falter and fade, President Kennedy suggested federal investment in urban transportation. However, it wasn t until President Johnson signed the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 that government funding for mass transit and the Urban Mass Transportation Administration were established (Federal Transit Administration [FTA], n.d.). A decade later, the National Mass Transportation Assistance Act created formula grant funding to assist with operating expenses of public and nonprofit transit agencies. I stood in front of a massive, Renaissance era piece. Without looking at the title or artist s statement, I knew it was of Abraham sacrificing Isaac. It had the iconic look of one of the most infamous stories from the bible. And when I remembered that painting, years later, I knew that would be the focus of this paper. So, with my painting in mind, I went to KSU online Hale Library ARTstor Abraham and Isaac . But there were too many paintings. And the majority of them looked the same. After clicking through about a dozen paintings from the Louvre, of Rembrandt and Domenichino and not finding the specific painting from my memory, I went to the Nelson Atkins website and then cross referenced with the list ARTstor was offering. The painting was Peter Paul Rubens The Sacrifice of Isaac and I can say, details get lost in memory. The painting, for the most part, kept with the scripture. Ancient Egyptians did have curses, although they are usually in the form of threats and occur mainly of citizens rather than royalty. A observation may indicate that royalty had protection against their enemies through other sources (Silverman). Most of the curses came from inscriptions on walls in the private tombs of the Old KIngdom, during the time when royal tombs were decorated with a set of spells called Pyramid Texts that were meant as directions for the king (Silverman). It s rare for curses to relate to tombs, because such an idea was unthinkable and even dangerous ( The Curse of the Pharaohs ). Curses that have been seen in the headlines are rarely ever true. Egyptians did in fact understand the power of negative thinking and their curses are far from a mystery (Silverman). Their suggestive remarks were those who might act against them and it was accomplished in written word, so in aspects of Egyptian culture the curse would survived as long as the monument on which it was written on (Silverman). • 34. Why Should Smoking Be Banned In Public Essay The numbers of people who smoke have increase over the years. Although they are equipped with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It is a personal choice and a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking. It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should be allowed to smoke. However, smokingdoes not only affect the smoker negatively. It also affects all the people around those who smoke because when people smoke in pubic the smoke travels everywhere through the air, and the negative effects of this smoke affects all living, breathing creatures. Therefore smoking should be banned in all public places. People who smoke in public portray a bad example. Children are easily influenced in their growing stages. They imitate the people around them because they cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Therefore they perceive the actions they see around them as the way things should be. Besides that, teenagers who see people smoke in public take it as precedent to start smoking as well. There is a saying that goes monkey see monkey do, which tells us that people imitate the actions of others as they see it in their daily lives. For instance, the State Legislature of Texas, as a hybrid legislature, has proved both annual and biennial sessions and budgets, but even then, it has been a challenge to achieve a great rate of passing bills. Even when the Governor of Texas has the power to summon a special session; like 16 other states, the rate of passing bills has been decreasing lower than 25% from the total of bills proposed (Zelinski, 2017). Furthermore, the session length is the factor that engulfs the management of time over legislatorial sessions. This control opens a possible influence over the political agenda of the party in control over the legislature, where there is a potential advantage taken by the governors, thus impacting state business and affairs. To illustrate this, the usual time of session for the North Dakota legislature is sixty six days over a two year period, there would be a 0.78% increase in the state s budget by the propositions of the governor (Kousser and Philips, 2009). In addition, the variation on the amount of compensation for legislators has become a key factor over the professionalization level throughout the states. For example, a lawmaker in Illinois would receive a base salary of $67,836 per year and a per diem rate, per each day of session, of $111. On the other hand, a state lawmaker in Idaho is going to receive $16,438 as a base salary and a per diem rate ranging from $25 to $122 (NCSL, 2014 State Legislator Compensation). Therefore, it is common to see that states where their legislators are being paid higher salaries, such as in California, Pennsylvania or Illinois, are being ranked at a higher level of professionalization, rather than part time legislature states, like New Hampshire or Utah.
