Atom Research Paper
Atoms
Atom is the fundamental building block of all stuff, or what scientists like to call matter . An
individual atom is very small. In fact, the smallest type of atom, hydrogen, has a diameter of 10 8
cm. Every single object is composed of atoms. Our body is made up of many, many individual
atoms. There are also many different types of atom. These different types are called elements.
Examples of some elements are hydrogen, oxygen, and helium. Under normal conditions many
atoms can stick together to form larger, different stuff. Scientists call material that results from the
joining of different types of atoms compounds . Atoms are not the smallest things there but are
made up of still smaller stuff. Also, atoms can be broken apart ... Show more content on

At a later moment, they are struck more on another side and so change their direction of motion.
Many scientists, who had previously resisted the notion of atoms because they could not be
observed, were convinced by Einstein s explanation of Brownian motion. Now we have special
microscopes capable of enabling us to see single atoms. A molecule may consist of two or more
different kinds of atoms or may consist of one or more of the same kind if atom. For example,
the two principal of gases of the air of our atmosphere are nitrogen and oxygen. Each molecule of
gaseous nitrogen is composed of two atoms of nitrogen bound together by electrical forces, and
likewise for gaseous oxygen. A rarer gas in our atmosphere is carbon dioxide, a molecule of which
contains one atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen. On the other hand, molecule of helium gas
contains only one atom of helium. Atoms are bound together to form molecules by electrical forces.
The composition of atoms Atoms are neutral as a whole, they consist of smaller particles that are
electrically charged. If two atoms are far apart compared to the size of the atoms, each atom acts
like an electrically neutral object because the effects of the positive and negative charges cancel
each other out. However, if the atoms are close together, each feels the electrical forces from the
charged constituents of the other because the positive and

Essay about Mgmt 591 Woodson Coalition Week 3 Case Study 1
Part 1: Group Development The genesis and growth of a group always goes through five stages:
forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Forming is always the first stage, where
the group members meet for the first time and roles as well as structure and purpose are not firmly
established. This stage closes when the individuals label themselves as a group. Appropriately
named, the storming stage is defined by intragroup conflict in the areas of limited autonomy and
leadership, and is a critical in group development. The resolution of this stage comes with a visible
leader along with rankings of group members. After the dust has settled, the norming stage begins
with development of cohesiveness, close relationships, and ends... Show more content on

The three organizations must come to an understanding on the issues presented first before
commencing on creating the after school program.
The secondary problem encountered in this case is the diversity among the students and parents,
school officials, NCPIE officials, and Woodson officials. We see that diversity is a very important
part in forming the coalition, as the student population is a mix of African American, Caucasians
and Hispanics. While the NCPIE is representative of students in Washington, D.C., the Woodson
Foundation is located in Virginia and is composed of mainly Caucasian professionals. There are
cultural, demographic, racial, ethnic, and location concerns that need to be taken into consideration
when forming an effective team.
Part 3: Retrospective Evaluation Although the differences in the ways and means vary among the
organizations, there are shared common goals meeting the needs of the students which consists
primarily of learning, and engaging the parents participation in the school system. These goals
should be at the forefront of every major decision while asking Does this decision help the students?
Leaders of this coalition need to be selected from a pool of candidates. The best way to equally
represent all the organizations and their influence in the process is to choose a candidate from each
organization. Criteria for these leaders should include situation specific experience, openness to
input, a high

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Essay
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec
Henri de Toulouse Lautrec was arguably the greatest graphic artist of his time; he is best
remembered for his bold, colourful posters of
Parisian entertainers. His childhood years were spent at his family chateau in the southwest of
France where he broke both of his legs and therefore stunted his growth. This left him ill
proportioned and dwarfish. This unfortunate event probably helped his artistic ability as he spent
most of his time on his own.
Lautrec was at his peak as a painter and poster artist in the early
1890 s at the time of the post impressionists.
During his life Lautrec felt most comfortable in the nightclubs, dance halls and brothels of Paris.
The narrow life he led is clearly shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first picture I have chosen to talk about is Lautrec s first important painting, which is called
At the Circus Fernando which was painted in 1888. The painting includes his favourite clown Cha
u kao who he painted many times before. This early example of Lautrec s caricature and graphic
style shows the ringmaster and a bareback rider at one of the famous Montmatre circuses. The
people at the Moulin
Rouge thought so highly of the painting that it was hung in the dancehall from the opening night.
The exaggerated features and silhouetted suit tails of the ringmaster make it look as if he has
been cut out and stuck down in an appropriate position on the circus floor. I admired this painting
because I liked the way he incorporated the sense of movement into the painting by firstly
painting the horse when it was in the middle of a stride with its hooves in the air and secondly
how he painted the rim of the circus in a curve, which gave a good effect. I was attracted to this
painting because it is full of life and colour. Lautrec uses bright colours when he is painting the
seating and the background, which contrasts with the relatively dull colours of the ringmaster and
horse. Lautrec makes the dancer on the horse stand out by painting a dull green entrance wall
behind the strong yellow hair of the dancer, which attracts your attention. I thought it was clever
how he puts a bit more life into the painting

Descriptive Essay About Being Beautiful
Later at night as I was brushing my teeth, I began to reflect on my experience being beautiful,
thus far. Okay, truthfully, the pros totally outweighed the cons. I felt semi more confident in
myself, the general public respected me more (sometimes), boys ogled at me (discreetly and not
so discreetly), I received more compliments (mostly on my physical appearance), and I kind of
held a certain sense of power. Why did gorgeous girls complain? They had it way easier. Alright,
there were some minimal downsides but who cares, this was everything I could ever dream for. I
spat down into the sink and inspected my teeth, they were blindingly white. Why was I even
brushing them? Scouring my teeth was not a necessity now other than preventing cavities. I smiled
at myself in the mirror, then, carefully picking up a glass from the sink, I drank some water and
sloshed it around in my mouth before spitting it out again. Much better, I was now ready for bed.
Turning off the light, I exited the restroom and crossed the hall toward my room, but when I
entered inside, I was mildly mortified to see my mother sitting on my bed.
Mother, I gasped. Can I help you?
Sarah, she smiled, scrunching her nose. Sit down. And she patted the spot of bed beside her. Note
to self, that was an image I never wanted to view again. But, like the little obedient angel that I
was, I complied.
Yes?
Well, I just wanted to give you something. Behind her, I could see a plastic bag. What was this? She

The Elizabethan Era in England Essay
The Elizabethan Era is often referred to as the Golden Age of England (A Changing View...).
The Elizabethan Era, named after Queen Elizabeth I, was a time of change and discovery
(Elizabethan Superstitions). Elizabeth ruled in a time of religious turmoil; both the Catholics
and Protestants fought to be the official religion of England. (Elizabethan World View). Many
people throughout England struggled to find the correct religion (Elizabethan World View).
Religion was changing and so did science. During the late 1500 s science began to evolve; new
ideas, concepts, and beliefs were starting to emerge (A Changing View). Magic was considered to
be very similar to science in this era. The belief in magical creatures served as the roots for... Show

She established the Elizabethan Church, in 1559, she wanted her Church to be popular with her
people, and for Catholicism to die out naturally as people turned to the religion she had
established (Elizabeth R). In 1559, Queen Elizabeth attempted to reunite her country, by passing
the Act of Supremacy and the Act of Uniformity (Pitchard 105). The Act of Supremacy stated
that Queen Elizabeth I was the most powerful ruler of England; this acts also made her the
Supreme Governor of the Church (Elizabeth I). The Act of Uniformity was a set of rules
regarding the new Elizabethan Church (Elizabeth R). Rules of the Church were basic and
simple. All people of England had to attend church on Sundays and holidays. A fine was issued to
those who did not attend church, the money collected was then used to help the poor (Elizabeth
R). Queen Elizabeth had to be harsh and strict with Catholics, more than she would have preferred
in order to maintain peace in England (Elizabeth R). Although Queen Elizabeth was nice, she
could also be very strict. When Catholics rebelled she reacted quickly, she had them killed, took
away their properties, or imprisoned them. After years of rebellion and fighting, England became a
Protestant Country in the early 1600 s (Pitchard 103). The significance of the Elizabethan religious
settlement is that it was able to hold the vast majority of the people together, despite being a
compromise few would have chosen (Elizabeth I).

The Tragedy of Prince Hamlet
King Hamlet s death left a mark on everyone in the castle, after a while that all began to change
when Claudius married Hamlet s mother. Hamlet felt that everybody should be mourning his father
s death, and he felt betrayed by the sudden marriage. Hamlet becomes mad once he sees his father
as a ghost and seeks to avenge his father s death, not knowing that this would lead to his death.
The grief of King Hamlet s death and the reactions of his loved ones changed Prince Hamlet s
life by showing signs of post traumatic stress disorder. King Hamlet s death left a big mark on
his son Prince Hamlet, he was Hamlets idol. Hamlet wanted to commit suicide because he was
still mourning the death of his father, but he didn t because he thought of the consequences of
purgatory, where he would not go to heaven or hell but remain as a lost soul in the world (
Hamlet s ) These reactions relate to PTSD because Hamlet cannot let his father go and he also
suffers by the reactions of his loved ones who are calm and happy for Gertrude and Claudius.
Less than two months after his father s death, Hamlet noticed the reactions of his loved ones, his
mother married King Hamlet s brother Claudius whom became king after King Hamlet died, no
one had an issue with their marriage the only one who was disturbed by the marriage was Prince
Hamlet and he was disturbed by the reactions of his loved ones and everybody else. As the marriage

Freud And Erikson Essay
Introduction: When we are living in the human society, the issue of human developmental has been
related to one within the human society. As we know there are several developmental theories
forwarded by the world s most famous psychologists. But the two main theories which we concern
are
Sigmund Freud s psychosexual and Erik Erikson s psychosocial theory. Sigmund Freud was a
supporter of Erikson s psychosocial theory. The human s development occurs in a series of
predetermined stages, this believed by the two psychologists.
Erikson s theory of psychosocial development: Erik Erikson s ideas have become the best known,

In this stage children start sucking, feeding from mother and biting. Erikson called this stage of
development as trust versus mistrust. Infant is utterly depend, on the development of trust is based
on the dependability and quality of the child s caregivers.
Both believe that child develops their sense of trust at this stage.
Next, Freud called the anal stage of development, and Erikson called this stage as autonomy
versus shame and doubt. Children at this stage develop their sense of independence and toilet
training is an important focus of this independence. Erikson believes that learning to control one s
body leads to a feeling of control and a sense of independence. Freud says the success of the stage is
based on the how caregivers successfully manage.
As in the ages three to six Freud called this stage as the phallic stage and the Erikson called
initiative versus guilt. Freud says in this stage, boys are influenced by sexual attachment to their
mothers and girls are influenced by their fathers and children identify with same sex parent. During
this stage according to Erikson, children start to assert their authority and control over their areas of

Different Types of Athletes
Between the indifferent and the protestor, we find a marvelous creature called an athlete whose
species is varied into many different types; the marshmallow, the jelly bean, and the rock. Athletes
can be found everywhere in the classroom, locker room, the gym, the thick of the game, and in
church. Places people will not find athletes are up late, in bars, missing church, in trouble, or being
disrespectful to his elders. An athlete is made of wondrous stuff. Athletes have the eyes and the
steadiness of an architect, the muscles of a body builder, the speed of a bullet, the reflexes of a cat,
the heart of a lion, and the faith of a saint. To his coach an athlete is a modeled... Show more

Usually these types are the easiest to find not only by the players, but the coaches. These are the
types who do not try hard or give a 100 percent. They do not work hard in the weight room, on the
field, or in the class room. When a marshmallow comes to mind think about this type of athlete
because they are soft on the inside and soft on the outside.
The jelly bean athletes are the ones that will hurt a team the most. These are the kinds that work
hard in front of the coach, but lack the effort behind his back. These are the types who go out at
night and are not a good role model for younger players. Once one player sees him careless about
what he does then they think they can do the same and then it starts a trend. These types are the
hardest to spot. The players can spot this type quicker than a coach because players will know
this type on a personal level. Coaches only know players on the field, but will eventually separate
these athletes from others. Being hard on the outside in front of coach but being soft in the middle
when coach is not around is just like a jelly bean
A rock athlete is the type of athlete that all coaches wish they have on their team. This type
works hard in front or behind closed doors. They give a 100 percent on and off the field. These
types go to class, keep their grades up, and stay out of trouble. These types are a good roll model
for younger players. If something does not

The Santa Ana Wind
Linda Thomas and Joan Didion are both natives of Southern California and wrote about the Santa
Ana, a wind that blows from northeast to Southern California every year. Didion, the author of The
Santa Ana, mostly writes about the area where she was born in 1934. Thomas, the author of Brush
Fire, was also born in Southern California. She has been writing poems, stories and essays for 25
years. Her writing has appeared in numerous print journals like American Poetry Review. Both
writers approach the topic of the Santa Ana winds very differently, although they both wish to
inform different people about the effects of the winds. Each author has a different point of view
and purpose than the other. Didion wanted to write ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Didion s tone was serious, ominous, and dark, and was very different from Thomas s tone which
was more positive. Although acknowledging the destructive nature of the fires caused by the Santa
Ana winds, Thomas generally talked about positive results of the fires. She describes the amazing
sight of the fire as she watches the flames lick up a hillside and ends the essay by reminding the
reader that the chaparral will return. By this, she means that many of the plants in chaparral
country need the heat of the flames to reproduce, so within a few weeks, new plants will rise
from the ashes. The fire also helps get rid of the dead plants that need to be burnt so they can get
out of the way for new plants to come in. Didion has a very different tone regarding the winds.
She describes the various hints of change with dark words. To her, there is an eerie absence of
surf and the heat was surreal, instead of it simply being hot with no waves in the water. The author
particularly chooses words with creepy connotations to make the reader feel a similar feeling to the
uneasiness that the Southern California natives feel. These contrasting tones make the authors
opposing views on the winds very evident. Both writers use immense amounts of imagery to
describe the Santa Ana Winds. Since Santa Ana is believed to be a terrifying wind, each author
used imagery to either prove or refute the terror. Thomas proved the beauty in Southern California
that occurred because of

Understanding Schizophrenia from the Mind of a Mental Health Victim Themselves
With basic information on what this mental illness is, to understand Schizophrenia further,
research into personal encounters became apparent. After looking into the mind of Ian Chovil
who was a victim of the mental health disease and finding his accounts very eccentric it is clear
that this is something that could quite possibly affect the brains of the people that commit
serious crimes in regards to the Media. Ian says in his story a few things which connect this type
of mental health to violent obscure behaviour. He says he had delusions right from the start
which after reading his story states, progressed from visions of famous persons trying to force
him to commit suicide right to the later stages of his schizophrenia where he says he got a lot of
messages from favourite Rock and Rolla songs, movies, cartoons and library books. Ian doesn t
say these forms of media forced him to murder innocent people but it does provide evidence that he
received messages. These messages in the mind of another schizophrenic could lead to serious acts
of violence which leads onto the next part of his story where he mentions how his delusions
changed as aliens instructed him on the real nature of reality then three things happened as contact
with reality became very tenuous, he got into trouble with the law, became an alcoholic and lost
his job. He is now taking instructions from a part of his mind he perceives

Central Auditory Processing Disorder
Except for outwardly appearances, speech may be the one of the most defining elements of a
person s identity, psychologists generally consider language a prime manifestation of underlying
cognitive processes (Solso, MacLin, MacLin, 2008, p. 468). Just by listening over the phone, I can
tell whether a family member is feeling positive, in ill health, or worried about events in their lives.
Should vocal language be the only measure of underlying cognitive processes?
As a small child, it was frustrating to not be able to make the adults in my life understand me.
Many years later after development of the brainstem auditory evoked response test (BAER), a
doctor who it seemed was always on the cutting edge of his science and working with
neurologists at the old Lovelace Medical Center, tested my hearing using the BAER . For me, the
results of this test were life changing because for the first time in 28 years my not being able to
understand much of the conversation around me and consequently, my ability to communicate had
a name a diagnosis central auditory processing disorder I heard at two different speeds and both
were at a slower rate than that of the general population.
The BAER measures latency in milliseconds or in layman terms, the BAER measures the length of
time it takes for sound to travel from the ear to the brain stem (Ness, 2009). An important benefit of
the BAER is that it can be easily used for diagnosis of auditory processes in infants and young

William E Baxter Case Summary
The vast majority of people playing poker online do so infrequently and for low stakes. In fact,
many of these online poker players could spend more money at a restaurant or the movies. For
instance, Ingo Fiedler of the University of Hamburg conducted the most comprehensive study of
online poker and found that the average player wagers rather insignificant stakes. Fiedler analyzed
an online pokerdatabase with 2,127,887 player identities at five different major poker sites over
a six month period. The median player only played 7 times over a six month period for a total of
4.87 hours. The stakes were so low that the majority of players only averaged $0.87 an hour in
rake, the house s commission.
Furthermore, the professional poker players on those sites clearly don t need the government to
protect them from themselves. In fact, the judicial system has recognized professional poker
play as a legitimate form of earned income with the case of William E. Baxter Jr. v United States.
In 1986 the courts ruled in favor of the Hall of Fame professional poker player, Billy Baxter,
who challenged the IRS and won. The IRS had considered his $1.2 million in poker winnings
from 1978 to 1981 to be based upon luck; therefore, his poker earnings were unearned income. That
meant a higher tax rate of 70%, instead of the tax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Atlantic Seal Hunt
The Seal Hunt As a Newfoundlander I strive to hold on to every bit of our culture and history we

There is an overabundance of seals, by the government setting a quota and people following that
they ensure that there will still be a thriving population of seals. (FAQS: The Atlantic seal hunt,

province become economically stable and our unemployment rates go down. Most importantly
with the population control of seal, it would hopefully one day lead to the day where the
moratorium is lifted. People have very strong feelings towards the seal hunt. It is one of the most
controversial topics in Canada. Many foundations like Greenpeace and Sea Shepard Conservation
Society have been fighting the seal hunt in Canada for years. Claiming it s inhuman . People like
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills come to Canada and lay down on the ice with a few baby white
coats and tug at your heartstrings trying to convince the world that the seal hunt is killing these
baby seals. That is however incorrect, Canada outlawed the killing of white coats in 1987. (FAQS:
The Atlantic seal hunt, 2009) Another fight that they have is that the club or the hakapik which is a
tool used for killing seals, is a inhuman and has no place in todays world. Yet again this is another
incorrect argument. Veterinarians have found that the hakapik, when properly used, is at least as
humane as, and often more humane than, the killing methods used in commercial slaughterhouses,

America Needs Censorship Essay
Being frustrated is disagreeable, but the real disasters in life begin when you get what you want.
For almost a century now, a great many intelligent, well meaning and articulate people have argued
eloquently against any kind of censorship of art and entertainment. Within the past twenty years,
courts and legislatures have found these arguments so persuasive that censorshipis now a relative

That those who certainly know this are moved to deny it merely indicates how a dogmatic
resistance to the idea of censorship can result in a mindless insistence on the absurd.
For the plain fact is that we all believe that there is a point at which the public authorities ought to
step in to limit the self expression of an individual or a group. A theatrical director might find
someone willing to commit suicide on the stage. We would not allow that. And I know of no one
who argues that we ought to permit public gladiatorial contests, even between consenting adults.
No society can be utterly indifferent to the ways its citizens publicly entertain themselves.
Bearbaiting and cockfighting are prohibited only in part out of compassion for the animals; the
main reason is that such spectacles, were felt to debase and brutalize the citizenry who flocked to
witness them. The question with regard to pornography and obscenity is whether they will brutalize
and debase our citizenry. We are, after all, not dealing with one book or one movie. We are dealing
with a general tendency that is suffusing our entire culture.
Pornography s whole purpose, it seems to me, is to treat human beings obscenely, to deprive them
of their specifically human dimension. Imagine a well known man in a hospital ward, dying an
agonizing death. His bladder and bowels empty themselves of their own accord. His consciousness

The Benefits Of Multilingual
There are several benefits of being bilingual or multilingual, but society have discouraged the use
of various languages. In American culture, it is uncommon for people to multilingual. Globally,
most people are able to converse in several different languages. What does it mean to be
multilingual? It is a person ability to understand and speak several languages (Diamond, 2010, p
1) some of the benefits include increase cognitive development and a delay in Alzheimer s disease.
According Lippi Green, there are three types of bilinguals: compound, coördinated, and
subordinate. Compound bilingual are very young children learning two language simultaneously.
Coordinate bilingual are older children learning secondary language at school and speaking
primary language at home. Subordinate bilingual are adults learning secondary language through
filtering using primary language. English isn t was well development that Romance Languages. It
is found that English isn t effective with pronoun as there aren t any sign of relationships.
Romance languages show differences between singular and plural pronouns as well as formal and
informal. Romance languages are more complex and requires the speaker to indicate relations to
the person who they are addressing. The English language lacks impersonal third person singular
pronoun ( Lippi Green, 2012, p 9). There is only he or she, which indicate gender. Instead the word
they is used when the speaker does not want to indicate gender.

Dr. Bird s Advice For Sad Poets
Often in a novel the author uses their writings to talk about serious subjects and form a theme that
has an important meaning and message behind it. In the coming of age novels Dr. Bird s Advice
for Sad Poets by Evan Roskos and, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, the
theme that you should celebrate everything you are because what you re feelingis valid and shall
pass is common throughout both books.
In Dr. Bird s Advice for Sad Poets the main character, James Whitman is a junior in highschool who
wakes up yawping and quoting Walt Whitman. From the outside he looks like an enigma. He lives
in a small town with his abusive dad who kicked his sister, Jorie, out and, his submissive mother.
James is struggling with severe depression and anxiety. To help cope with what he s feeling,
James has an imaginary, human size, bird, therapist. Because she s living inside James head she
is only able to tell James things he already knows but just doesn t really want to admit. He talks
to his therapist, Dr. Bird , while he works at a pizza parlor to save up enough money to go to a
real therapist, since he knows his parents won t get him one. Another way James deals with his
feeling is by hugging trees and writing poetry. He begins to help write his school s literary
magazine and starts to fall in love with head writer, Beth. To make things worse, James continues to
blame himself for his sister s misfortune. James sister, Jordie, was a senior in highschool when she

Throughout the book An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Adam
Smith uses the term commercial society rather than more accustomed words like capitalism.
Smith explains what he means by this term, is when the division of labour has been once
thoroughly established, it is but a small part of a man s want which the produce of his own
labour can supply. He supplies the far greater part of them by exchanging that surplus part of the
produce of his own labour, which is over and above his own consumption, for such parts of the
produce of other s men s labour as he has occasion for. Every man thus lives by exchanging, or
becomes in some measure a merchant, and the society itself grows to be what is properly a
commercial society (Smith, 2003, p. 37).
He was trying to say is that commercial society is a civilization where everyone is a merchant: a
dealer, trader, and seller. Throughout the book, Smith starts having an agreement and disagreement
on commercial society, which is a commercial society deforms human nature. However, continuing
reading his book, there are more benefits of a commercial society than the drawbacks. A
commercial society does not damage human nature, instead improves human nature by acting on
one s self interest to bring positive benefits to society, connects and aids members of society
together through trade and

Introduction The United States is a land with a diversified culture. The reason for this
diversification of culture is the fact that the country alone is home for people of all cultures.
Therefore, the United States is often referred to as the Melting Pot . Being the land of the free,
America is one of those countries where people from different backgrounds are able to practice
their cultures and religion freely. One such group of people living in the United States is the
African Americans that are a significant proportion of the country s population. This paper is aimed

Religion
African Americans live in the moment using recurring yearly religious beliefs to as a foundation of
a religious lifestyle. The cultural interaction for African Americans within this circular time sense
provides an organizing framework for their cultural psychology and has helped developed their
identity in America (Jones 2002).
African Americans began to organize their own religious ceremonial services secretly in the slave
quarters. They would use gestures, code words, and communication not apparent to the Caucasian
people. The believers were summoned to the slave quarters where they open heartedly shared
beliefs with evangelical Christianity, cultural rhythms, and beautiful singing. As time passed, the
spirituals, with strong beliefs of religious deliverance and freedom from slavery, progressed and
prospered. African Americanpreachers believed that God had called them to speak his Word,
cultured their chanted sermons , or cadenced, chanted way of extemporaneous preaching. Part
church, part psychological refuge, and part organizing point for occasional acts of outright
rebellion these meetings provided one of the few ways for enslaved African Americans to express
and enact their hopes for a better future (Nat Turner 1831).
Today African American church leaders appreciate the magnitude of

Cesar Chavez A Hero
Cesar Chavez is a hero because he gave farm workers who were not educated enough to get better
working conditions. His life reflected his personality and his everlasting legacy proves
unforgettable.
Cesar Chavez s biography shows a lot about the way he was raised and how that taught him his
ways and shaped his personality. Cesar was born on March 31, 1927 (Gonzales 22) and was
subjected early to intense destitution because his family was one of many migrant, Mexican
American, families (Pao) that rely on the money even if the conditions were terrible for any
human. His experience of the farm worker s life was what drove him to help other workers.
Cesar and his father trudged twelve miles to Yuma looking for a bank loan. They came back
covered with dust and empty handed. (Terzian 7) He had early experiences with upwards battles
and it taught him how to manage them. Another time was captured by James Terzian when he
wrote about Chavez s dad taking care of his fellow workers. These people are poor, ignorant
peasants campesinos! They ll sleep anywhere, eat anything take any wage you pay. Why waste
your time and money on them, eh? said the neighbor. Cesar s dad responds, They are children of
God. They will get shelter and soap for as long as they work on my farm. (5). He was raised to
respect workers and understand that they are people too. Cesar Chavez started the United Farm
Workers on Oct 15, 1966 (Holmes). Cease new that the farm workers were living hard lives and

By, Oscar Thomas
Novelist, former attorney, and Mississippi legislator, John Grisham, wrote the book entitled
Innocent Man. As a small town lawyer in the South, he experienced many events that provided him
with a clear view of families and communities. For this particular book, however, he gathered
research that would provide insight to the justice system of Oklahoma and he found injustice that
took the best years of a man s life.
While reading several selections Grisham book, I conclude that he is definitely pro anti capital

In an era where everyone is so concerned about the money, denying a defendant a reasonable
amount of funding (to his public defender) for expert consultants and their testimonies could save
thousands upon millions of dollars in wrongful prosecution lawsuits later. With the advent of DNA,
many previously convicted men and women are being let out. Interestingly enough, DNA evidence
isn t the ONLY thing that would have exonerated them, but no one would listen. One issue I think
Grisham was trying to help people see is the fact that we should not believe what we THINK, it has
to be what we KNOW. What is the harm in humane treatment? Yes, criminals should be kept from
the public, but since the justice system is not perfect and will make mistakes they shouldn t be so
self righteous about their treatment of those they deem unworthy.

Income Inequality and Standard of Living in the United States
A characteristic of man that separates him from the majority of the animal world is his organization
of social and economic systems. Man, however, retains traits of his evolutionary ancestors in the
form of self preservation and greediness. While many political, economic, and social systems try to
eradicate this form of natural selection, capitalism and related economic structures preserve social
inequality in many forms. Historically, this preservation of financial inequality has achieved a
higher standard of living generally than systems originally formed and employed to achieve just
that.
There are specific economic factors of capitalism that enables it to make life more ... Show more

Many privately owned companies exist in capitalist societies. The population is not vast enough to
carry all of these companies.
Everyone needs a house. Rich people poor people; all people are included. This is a problem,
because housing costs a great deal of money. Poor people that can barely afford food and
clothing also have a hard time finding reasonable housing. As a result, some live in unsafe and
unhealthy conditions that are badly in need of repair. Poor people live in the central city for two
different reasons. First, the farther away that you get from the central business district, the higher
your transportation costs to get to your job (assuming that the job is located in the CBD). If you
can not afford to commute to your work, you will be unable to keep your job, making you worse
off economically. Therefore, you would chose to locate your residence close to your place of
employment (closer to the CBD) in order to reduce your transportation costs. IF you live close
enough to your place of employment, you may not need to use any form of transportation other
then your feet, which doesn t cost you anything but your time.
The second reason has to do with where new houses are built. New homes are built on land that was
previously undeveloped, usually located on the outer edge of the residential district, furthest away
from the central business district. The wealthiest people move into these new homes, leaving the
upper middle

The Silver Bow Creek Watershed
The Silver Bow Creek watershed in southwest Montana encompasses approximately 474 square
miles and forms a portion of the headwaters of the Clark Fork River and ultimately, the Columbia
River (Montana Natural Resource Damage Program, 2009). The site covers about 26 miles of
stream and stream side habitat. Silver Bow Creek was used as a conduit for mining, smelting,
industrial and municipal wastes for more than a hundred years (Weitz, Luxenberg). Rather large
amounts of mine tailings deposits are found along the creek. These deposits contain elevated levels
of metals and have been dispersed over the entire flood plain (Weitz, Luxenberg).
Silver bow creek and the Summit Valley have not always been a site of pollution and
contaminated mining sites. The Summit Valley was inhabited by Native American Indians from
the Salish, Kootenai, and Flathead tribes (Clark Fork Watershed Education Program). Long
before European miners discovered gold in the Butte Area on Silver Bow Creek these tribes
used the area of the entire upper Clark Fork valley for seasonal hunting and fishing grounds.
Later, the area was also used as a passage route for Nez Perce and Blackfeet Indians (Clark Fork
Watershed Education Program). The Original Mine claim was staked on Butte hill because its
owners found diggings and pits with antler tools and exposed ore rock.
The dominant land use has historically been mining, with minor amounts of agriculture and tourism
(Montana Natural Resource Damage Program). In

Methods for Mitigating Medication Errors
One of the biggest issues regarding nursing, medicine, and healthcare today is that of patient safety
and medication administration and its impact on providing effective care, especially to the elderly.
Anytime a patient is to receive a medication, several checks must be taken in order to ensure that
the patient receives not only the appropriate type but also the correct dose. This is of utmost
importance with regard to high risk medications, such as warfarin. As a mainstream drug that is
used for the treatment and prevention of coagulation in the blood, any medication error can be
potentially disastrous or even fatal. As a result this, several studies have been conducted over the
years in order to mitigate some of these errors and how best to incorporate consistent strategies that
are both ensure patient compliance and safety, but that are also cost effective, as well.
The studies presented here will focus on what is currently known as evidence based practice. In
this paper, a summary of three studies will provided as will the best intervention methods based on
evidence, as suggested by the authors research, will also be incorporated. In the first study, Patient
Safety in Primary Care: Are General Practice Nurses the Answer to Improving Warfarin Safety,
authors Lowthian, Joyce, Diug, Dooley recommended a number of changes that are designed to

The Indian Act Of 1876 And The Amendment Of 1985
Since the beginning of colonization, indigenous people of Canada have been repressed in many
ways by the Westerners. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only
aboriginal, but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and
don t have all the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination
against indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of
1985, how those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have
been more discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity.
Then we will see how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the
consequences of legal discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a
context of discrimination against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in
detriment of indigenous women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally
gained a bit of justice through the amendment of 1985.
First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms
of equity for aboriginal women. With the colonization from the British and the French in Canada
came rapes, violence against indigenous population, especially women that were seen as weaker
and easier prey . After the colonizing period, violence against aboriginal women came not only

The High Cost of Genetic Engineering Essay
The High Cost of Genetic Engineering
Genetic research on human embryos, in correlation with the human genome, is the key to gene
therapy, genetic diagnosis, and even to genetically engineered human beings. Knowing which gene
controls what trait and causes what genetic disease will arm doctors with a powerful tool to treat
their patients at the molecular level. On the other hand, this allows people to possibly manipulate
genes to enhance specific traits or create the perfect baby. Genetic research on human embryos has
two implications. A practical one in therapeutic research (to detect, and hopefully correct gene
flaws), and then the potentiality of allowing parents to decide how their child should look (or in an

Eugenics was and is thought to improve society and help eradicate diseases. There are two uses
of eugenics: positive and negative. Positive eugenics is increasing the procreation of those with
traits considered desirable or beneficial (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Negative eugenics is
stopping the procreation of those with undesirable traits through sterilization, birth control, abortion
or counseling (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Eugenics is thought to rid the world s population of
bad or diseased genes (Saetz, 1985. This practice, however, leads to intense discrimination against
those with low status, low IQ, etc (Davis, 1981).
The history of eugenics shows the ugly turn which genetics can take. The most prevalent example
is that of the Nazi regime and its policy of killing off Jews and Gypsies, who were thought to be
inferior (Saetz, 1985). Nazi and US compulsory sterilization laws, which sterilized the feeble
minded, schizophrenic, epileptic, depressed, etc., is also another example (Saetz, 1985). 410,600
people were sterilized in Nazi Germany alone (Saetz, 1985). The birth control movement also
embodied a sense of eugenics, making it a privilege for the rich and a duty for the poor. Marget
Sanger, a birth control activist, was quoted saying, The chief issue of birth control

Berger and Radhakrishnan on Religion Mindsets
In Berger and Radhakrishnan s books the multitude of religious experience one can encounter is
defined and explained through the hardships and cultural multiplicities of views that many Hindus
go through to find absolute transcendence with God, gain a higher level of religious consciousness
and how externalization, objectivities, and internalization are used as forms in society to introduce
and establish religious construction. The inconsistency of religious isolation is in the very manner
of dehumanizing a large part of the social and cultural world that we live in today because of the

One point that I have reached agreement with in Berger s, The Sacred Canopy: Elements of a
Sociological Theory of Religion, is how it is important for us to create a sacred reality for
ourselves and how religion, like it can alienate people, it can also de alienate people and drive them
towards more knowledge and understanding about the world around them that allows for a creation
of better choices. Berger talks about the human instinct and how we spend so little time in the
womb that we never get to truly develop this instinct to help us survive in the world. He talks
about this instinct not being prevalent in our lives to be the main cause as to why man created
religion. I believe Berger s explanation of externalization as true because in our everyday lives
we are always looking for ways to mold and shape our environment as we see fit for ourselves
and in this process we go through what Berger describes as objectivating. We as human beings
learn from teachers about what we should do to survive and how we repeat these actions over and
over again in our everyday lives through the process of externalization that

Similarly, Rotation is about distance and the overcoming the feeling of being small and inferior
as a part of growing up. As the girl is growing up, she looks up to her father and acknowledges
that she is just a small peck on the Earth, as to when she is grown up she looks back on this and
realizes change is good. Rotation and the poem History Lesson are similar in a way where the
character notices that change is good. History Lesson reflects on the past when there used to be
segregation of blacks and whites until Natasha brings the poem back to modern day and reminds
the reader that segregation is history because of the changes made to laws.

Was The Watermill With The Great Red Roof By Meindert Hobbema
The work of art I chose to write about was The Watermill with the Great Red Roof by Meindert

the size of the painting is 32 x 43Вј inches. When I was walking around looking at the different

shootings from happening, but there is no evidence that banning any assault weapon would prevent
mass shootings. The AR 15 should not be banned because the Second Amendment of the United

People who are against this rifle being legal often ask supporters of the rifle Is it necessary to
use this weapon outside of military combat? . The AR 15 is one of the most popular rifles of all
time and it is used by many American hunters because of the rifles effectiveness. The AR 15 is
effective when hunting due to the higher magazine capacity and quicker fire power compared
to other standard bolt action hunting rifles. The opposing side would argue that it is not
necessary to have a quicker fire rate for hunters, but the AR 15 is needed for farmers who are
having their farms ruined by wild hogs. Many farmers are losing thousands of acres of crops as
well as money due to a high population of wild hogs. People believe that you should only use a

Prolouge Is The Story Of Cinderella
Prolouge
Once upon a time... Wait a minute, no, this is not your cliche fairy tale. It doesn t have a
princess and a dashing prince who fall for each other after overcoming some stupid obstacle like
a poison apple or sleeping curse. I ve read those stories, but it s all the same, everyone gets a
happy ending except for the villain. That s going to change right now because this is my story, and
my fairy tale certainly doesn t end with everyone getting their happy ending. This is the story of
Cinderella. Not the one with the glass slipper or the bibbity bobbity boo, but one much less about
getting a happily ever after. When I first wake up it is as if I am waking up for the very first time. I
don t remember anything that happened the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I started to laugh when we made a startling halt. Standing in front of me wearing his pride on his
face was the Prince himself. Behind him was a castle s carriage drawn by five white stallions.
Still out of breath, gasping to try to say something to explain myself, the only words I could find
were, Prince Charming, lovely to make your acquaintance. I always found Prince Charming such a
terrible name because if anything he was the opposite of charming. He is so fake and misleading,
he acts like this brave hero when really he is just a spoiled prince who sits up in his castle and
pretends to care about his people. Milady, he bows his head slightly as if to say how do you do? ,
May I ask why you were riding so fast away from the palace? Rhetorical question, he knew why I
rode so fast but if he wanted to play games I guess I could play along. When I ride fast I feel more
free, and isn t that what everyone wants, to feel free? I said, it was partly true, all I wanted was
to feel like I was riding fast forever. Possibly, but then can you explain the goods you stole from
my kingdom? He said, still using that proper voice he uses with all his people. I knew he
thought I was guilty before this whole conversation, there s no point in playing games when he
thinks he s already won. I don t have to answer to you. You re not my king, you re not even a king
yet. I said very forcefully, I didn t mean to come off as impolite, but he had to

Farming In Ancient Greece
Farm land was used mostly for livestock due to the land being so rocky.
Most farms were small with four or five acres of land. Farmers grew enough food to support their
families and, at times, they grew a small surplus to sell at the local market. Farmers were under
alot of pressure to produce food for Greece.
I feel farming was hard due to the limited land that can be used as cropland. The use of irrigation
was an important invention and the loss of fertile soil was bad for all crop farmers. Farming was
hard due to the limited amount of land that was farmable
Even though land was scarce they still grew a variety of crops. Barley was the main cereal crop
for the ancient Greek farmers. They made the barley into porridge or ground it into flour to
make bread. Olive oil was used for cooking oil or in oil lamps. Grapes were primarily used for
wine production, although they could be eaten or dried into raisins. ( Farming in Ancient Greece.

any fertile soil that may have been there. The tree roots were not there to hold the fertile soil. This
resulted in the land becoming even more infertile. The statesman Solon tried to solve the problem
by asking his citizens to plant olive trees. ( Greece: Agriculture and natural resources. Greece:

Compare And Contrast The Compromises Of The United States...
During the late 1700 s and the early 1800 s, the United States were constantly under stress from
tensions within their country. During these years, the nation was experiencing change at a rapid
rate. Increasing industrialization led to a booming growth in population and urbanization. During
this time, there were many things that divided the country. Some of those things were small, others
divided the nation. From 1781 to 1840, the US was divided among themselves with political,
economic, and moral conflicts that divided the country. In 1792, the first party system was
established in the United States. The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, had a loose
interpretation of the constitution. These ideals set them apart from the Republicans,... Show more

The fight against slavery started with the Missouri Compromise, which caused the first debate over
slavery within the national government. It was a very heavy topic to be addressed, which is why
many political figures stayed away from it. Slavery was so important because without it, the
Southern Economy would crumble. Since the Southern economy runs on the exportation of cotton
and other plants, if there were no slaves to maintain the field and tend to the crops, the southern
way of living would crumble. With opposition to that argument, we can see that the North has
already begun to get away from slavery and their views are completely different that the South s.

  • 2. Atom Research Paper Atoms Atom is the fundamental building block of all stuff, or what scientists like to call matter . An individual atom is very small. In fact, the smallest type of atom, hydrogen, has a diameter of 10 8 cm. Every single object is composed of atoms. Our body is made up of many, many individual atoms. There are also many different types of atom. These different types are called elements. Examples of some elements are hydrogen, oxygen, and helium. Under normal conditions many atoms can stick together to form larger, different stuff. Scientists call material that results from the joining of different types of atoms compounds . Atoms are not the smallest things there but are made up of still smaller stuff. Also, atoms can be broken apart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At a later moment, they are struck more on another side and so change their direction of motion. Many scientists, who had previously resisted the notion of atoms because they could not be observed, were convinced by Einstein s explanation of Brownian motion. Now we have special microscopes capable of enabling us to see single atoms. A molecule may consist of two or more different kinds of atoms or may consist of one or more of the same kind if atom. For example, the two principal of gases of the air of our atmosphere are nitrogen and oxygen. Each molecule of gaseous nitrogen is composed of two atoms of nitrogen bound together by electrical forces, and likewise for gaseous oxygen. A rarer gas in our atmosphere is carbon dioxide, a molecule of which contains one atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen. On the other hand, molecule of helium gas contains only one atom of helium. Atoms are bound together to form molecules by electrical forces. The composition of atoms Atoms are neutral as a whole, they consist of smaller particles that are electrically charged. If two atoms are far apart compared to the size of the atoms, each atom acts like an electrically neutral object because the effects of the positive and negative charges cancel each other out. However, if the atoms are close together, each feels the electrical forces from the charged constituents of the other because the positive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Mgmt 591 Woodson Coalition Week 3 Case Study 1 Part 1: Group Development The genesis and growth of a group always goes through five stages: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Forming is always the first stage, where the group members meet for the first time and roles as well as structure and purpose are not firmly established. This stage closes when the individuals label themselves as a group. Appropriately named, the storming stage is defined by intragroup conflict in the areas of limited autonomy and leadership, and is a critical in group development. The resolution of this stage comes with a visible leader along with rankings of group members. After the dust has settled, the norming stage begins with development of cohesiveness, close relationships, and ends... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three organizations must come to an understanding on the issues presented first before commencing on creating the after school program. The secondary problem encountered in this case is the diversity among the students and parents, school officials, NCPIE officials, and Woodson officials. We see that diversity is a very important part in forming the coalition, as the student population is a mix of African American, Caucasians and Hispanics. While the NCPIE is representative of students in Washington, D.C., the Woodson Foundation is located in Virginia and is composed of mainly Caucasian professionals. There are cultural, demographic, racial, ethnic, and location concerns that need to be taken into consideration when forming an effective team. Part 3: Retrospective Evaluation Although the differences in the ways and means vary among the organizations, there are shared common goals meeting the needs of the students which consists primarily of learning, and engaging the parents participation in the school system. These goals should be at the forefront of every major decision while asking Does this decision help the students? Leaders of this coalition need to be selected from a pool of candidates. The best way to equally represent all the organizations and their influence in the process is to choose a candidate from each organization. • 5. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Essay Henri de Toulouse Lautrec Henri de Toulouse Lautrec was arguably the greatest graphic artist of his time; he is best remembered for his bold, colourful posters of Parisian entertainers. His childhood years were spent at his family chateau in the southwest of France where he broke both of his legs and therefore stunted his growth. This left him ill proportioned and dwarfish. This unfortunate event probably helped his artistic ability as he spent most of his time on his own. Lautrec was at his peak as a painter and poster artist in the early 1890 s at the time of the post impressionists. During his life Lautrec felt most comfortable in the nightclubs, dance halls and brothels of Paris. The narrow life he led is clearly shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first picture I have chosen to talk about is Lautrec s first important painting, which is called At the Circus Fernando which was painted in 1888. The painting includes his favourite clown Cha u kao who he painted many times before. This early example of Lautrec s caricature and graphic style shows the ringmaster and a bareback rider at one of the famous Montmatre circuses. The people at the Moulin Rouge thought so highly of the painting that it was hung in the dancehall from the opening night. The exaggerated features and silhouetted suit tails of the ringmaster make it look as if he has been cut out and stuck down in an appropriate position on the circus floor. I admired this painting because I liked the way he incorporated the sense of movement into the painting by firstly painting the horse when it was in the middle of a stride with its hooves in the air and secondly how he painted the rim of the circus in a curve, which gave a good effect. I was attracted to this painting because it is full of life and colour. Lautrec uses bright colours when he is painting the seating and the background, which contrasts with the relatively dull colours of the ringmaster and horse. Lautrec makes the dancer on the horse stand out by painting a dull green entrance wall behind the strong yellow hair of the dancer, which attracts your attention. I thought it was clever how he puts a bit more life into the painting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Descriptive Essay About Being Beautiful Later at night as I was brushing my teeth, I began to reflect on my experience being beautiful, thus far. Okay, truthfully, the pros totally outweighed the cons. I felt semi more confident in myself, the general public respected me more (sometimes), boys ogled at me (discreetly and not so discreetly), I received more compliments (mostly on my physical appearance), and I kind of held a certain sense of power. Why did gorgeous girls complain? They had it way easier. Alright, there were some minimal downsides but who cares, this was everything I could ever dream for. I spat down into the sink and inspected my teeth, they were blindingly white. Why was I even brushing them? Scouring my teeth was not a necessity now other than preventing cavities. I smiled at myself in the mirror, then, carefully picking up a glass from the sink, I drank some water and sloshed it around in my mouth before spitting it out again. Much better, I was now ready for bed. Turning off the light, I exited the restroom and crossed the hall toward my room, but when I entered inside, I was mildly mortified to see my mother sitting on my bed. Mother, I gasped. Can I help you? Sarah, she smiled, scrunching her nose. Sit down. And she patted the spot of bed beside her. Note to self, that was an image I never wanted to view again. But, like the little obedient angel that I was, I complied. Yes? Well, I just wanted to give you something. Behind her, I could see a plastic bag. What was this? She ... • 7. The Elizabethan Era in England Essay The Elizabethan Era is often referred to as the Golden Age of England (A Changing View...). The Elizabethan Era, named after Queen Elizabeth I, was a time of change and discovery (Elizabethan Superstitions). Elizabeth ruled in a time of religious turmoil; both the Catholics and Protestants fought to be the official religion of England. (Elizabethan World View). Many people throughout England struggled to find the correct religion (Elizabethan World View). Religion was changing and so did science. She established the Elizabethan Church, in 1559, she wanted her Church to be popular with her people, and for Catholicism to die out naturally as people turned to the religion she had established (Elizabeth R). In 1559, Queen Elizabeth attempted to reunite her country, by passing the Act of Supremacy and the Act of Uniformity (Pitchard 105). The Act of Supremacy stated that Queen Elizabeth I was the most powerful ruler of England; this acts also made her the Supreme Governor of the Church (Elizabeth I). The Act of Uniformity was a set of rules regarding the new Elizabethan Church (Elizabeth R). Rules of the Church were basic and simple. All people of England had to attend church on Sundays and holidays. A fine was issued to those who did not attend church, the money collected was then used to help the poor (Elizabeth R). Queen Elizabeth had to be harsh and strict with Catholics, more than she would have preferred in order to maintain peace in England (Elizabeth R). Although Queen Elizabeth was nice, she could also be very strict. When Catholics rebelled she reacted quickly, she had them killed, took away their properties, or imprisoned them. After years of rebellion and fighting, England became a Protestant Country in the early 1600 s (Pitchard 103). Although acknowledging the destructive nature of the fires caused by the Santa Ana winds, Thomas generally talked about positive results of the fires. She describes the amazing sight of the fire as she watches the flames lick up a hillside and ends the essay by reminding the reader that the chaparral will return. By this, she means that many of the plants in chaparral country need the heat of the flames to reproduce, so within a few weeks, new plants will rise from the ashes. The fire also helps get rid of the dead plants that need to be burnt so they can get out of the way for new plants to come in. Didion has a very different tone regarding the winds. She describes the various hints of change with dark words. To her, there is an eerie absence of surf and the heat was surreal, instead of it simply being hot with no waves in the water. The author particularly chooses words with creepy connotations to make the reader feel a similar feeling to the uneasiness that the Southern California natives feel. These contrasting tones make the authors opposing views on the winds very evident. Both writers use immense amounts of imagery to describe the Santa Ana Winds. In fact, many of these online poker players could spend more money at a restaurant or the movies. For instance, Ingo Fiedler of the University of Hamburg conducted the most comprehensive study of online poker and found that the average player wagers rather insignificant stakes. Fiedler analyzed an online pokerdatabase with 2,127,887 player identities at five different major poker sites over a six month period. The median player only played 7 times over a six month period for a total of 4.87 hours. The stakes were so low that the majority of players only averaged $0.87 an hour in rake, the house s commission. Furthermore, the professional poker players on those sites clearly don t need the government to protect them from themselves. In fact, the judicial system has recognized professional poker play as a legitimate form of earned income with the case of William E. Baxter Jr. v United States. In 1986 the courts ruled in favor of the Hall of Fame professional poker player, Billy Baxter, who challenged the IRS and won. That those who certainly know this are moved to deny it merely indicates how a dogmatic resistance to the idea of censorship can result in a mindless insistence on the absurd. A theatrical director might find someone willing to commit suicide on the stage. We would not allow that. And I know of no one who argues that we ought to permit public gladiatorial contests, even between consenting adults. The question with regard to pornography and obscenity is whether they will brutalize and debase our citizenry. We are, after all, not dealing with one book or one movie. We are dealing with a general tendency that is suffusing our entire culture. SOCB42 Classical Sociological Theory Professor Daniel Silver TUT0001 TA Katie Stuart Joyce (Fong) Liu 1001717458 Throughout the book An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith uses the term commercial society rather than more accustomed words like capitalism. Smith explains what he means by this term, is when the division of labour has been once thoroughly established, it is but a small part of a man s want which the produce of his own labour can supply. He supplies the far greater part of them by exchanging that surplus part of the produce of his own labour, which is over and above his own consumption, for such parts of the produce of other s men s labour as he has occasion for. Every man thus lives by exchanging, or becomes in some measure a merchant, and the society itself grows to be what is properly a commercial society (Smith, 2003, p. 37). Income Inequality and Standard of Living in the United States A characteristic of man that separates him from the majority of the animal world is his organization of social and economic systems. Man, however, retains traits of his evolutionary ancestors in the form of self preservation and greediness. While many political, economic, and social systems try to eradicate this form of natural selection, capitalism and related economic structures preserve social inequality in many forms. Historically, this preservation of financial inequality has achieved a higher standard of living generally than systems originally formed and employed to achieve just that. There are specific economic factors of capitalism that enables it to make life more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many privately owned companies exist in capitalist societies. The population is not vast enough to carry all of these companies. Everyone needs a house. Rich people poor people; all people are included. This is a problem, because housing costs a great deal of money. Poor people that can barely afford food and clothing also have a hard time finding reasonable housing. As a result, some live in unsafe and unhealthy conditions that are badly in need of repair. Poor people live in the central city for two different reasons. First, the farther away that you get from the central business district, the higher your transportation costs to get to your job (assuming that the job is located in the CBD). If you can not afford to commute to your work, you will be unable to keep your job, making you worse off economically. Therefore, you would chose to locate your residence close to your place of employment (closer to the CBD) in order to reduce your transportation costs. IF you live close enough to your place of employment, you may not need to use any form of transportation other then your feet, which doesn t cost you anything but your time. The second reason has to do with where new houses are built. New homes are built on land that was previously undeveloped, usually located on the outer edge of the residential district, furthest away from the central business district. • 28. The Silver Bow Creek Watershed The Silver Bow Creek watershed in southwest Montana encompasses approximately 474 square miles and forms a portion of the headwaters of the Clark Fork River and ultimately, the Columbia River (Montana Natural Resource Damage Program, 2009). The site covers about 26 miles of stream and stream side habitat. Silver Bow Creek was used as a conduit for mining, smelting, industrial and municipal wastes for more than a hundred years (Weitz, Luxenberg). Rather large amounts of mine tailings deposits are found along the creek. These deposits contain elevated levels of metals and have been dispersed over the entire flood plain (Weitz, Luxenberg). Silver bow creek and the Summit Valley have not always been a site of pollution and contaminated mining sites. The Summit Valley was inhabited by Native American Indians from the Salish, Kootenai, and Flathead tribes (Clark Fork Watershed Education Program). Long before European miners discovered gold in the Butte Area on Silver Bow Creek these tribes used the area of the entire upper Clark Fork valley for seasonal hunting and fishing grounds. Later, the area was also used as a passage route for Nez Perce and Blackfeet Indians (Clark Fork Watershed Education Program). The Original Mine claim was staked on Butte hill because its owners found diggings and pits with antler tools and exposed ore rock. Methods for Mitigating Medication Errors One of the biggest issues regarding nursing, medicine, and healthcare today is that of patient safety and medication administration and its impact on providing effective care, especially to the elderly. Anytime a patient is to receive a medication, several checks must be taken in order to ensure that the patient receives not only the appropriate type but also the correct dose. This is of utmost importance with regard to high risk medications, such as warfarin. As a mainstream drug that is used for the treatment and prevention of coagulation in the blood, any medication error can be potentially disastrous or even fatal. As a result this, several studies have been conducted over the years in order to mitigate some of these errors and how best to incorporate consistent strategies that are both ensure patient compliance and safety, but that are also cost effective, as well. The studies presented here will focus on what is currently known as evidence based practice. In this paper, a summary of three studies will provided as will the best intervention methods based on evidence, as suggested by the authors research, will also be incorporated. In the first study, Patient Safety in Primary Care: Are General Practice Nurses the Answer to Improving Warfarin Safety, authors Lowthian, Joyce, Diug, Dooley recommended a number of changes that are designed to improve patient safety when using warfarin. Aboriginal women have been having a really hard time, being not only aboriginal, but also women in a male dominated society where women are seen as secondary and don t have all the rights and privileges that men have. We will focus here on the legal discrimination against indigenous women in Canada that came with the Indian Act of 1876 and the amendment of 1985, how those two events influenced women. We will first study why indigenous women have been more discriminated than indigenous men, then how the Indian Act reinforced this inequity. Then we will see how the 1985 amendment came to be, a century later and what are the consequences of legal discrimination for indigenous women in Canada. We will conclude that, in a context of discrimination against natives with colonization, the Indian Act made legal injustices in detriment of indigenous women, and that after years of favouritism against them they finally gained a bit of justice through the amendment of 1985. First of all, it s important to understand the context in which the Indian Act is taking place in terms of equity for aboriginal women. With the colonization from the British and the French in Canada came rapes, violence against indigenous population, especially women that were seen as weaker and easier prey . After the colonizing period, violence against aboriginal women came not only from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The High Cost of Genetic Engineering Essay The High Cost of Genetic Engineering Genetic research on human embryos, in correlation with the human genome, is the key to gene therapy, genetic diagnosis, and even to genetically engineered human beings. Knowing which gene controls what trait and causes what genetic disease will arm doctors with a powerful tool to treat their patients at the molecular level. On the other hand, this allows people to possibly manipulate genes to enhance specific traits or create the perfect baby. Genetic research on human embryos has two implications. A practical one in therapeutic research (to detect, and hopefully correct gene flaws), and then the potentiality of allowing parents to decide how their child should look (or in an extreme word, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eugenics was and is thought to improve society and help eradicate diseases. There are two uses of eugenics: positive and negative. Positive eugenics is increasing the procreation of those with traits considered desirable or beneficial (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Negative eugenics is stopping the procreation of those with undesirable traits through sterilization, birth control, abortion or counseling (Davis, 1981 and Saetz, 1985). Eugenics is thought to rid the world s population of bad or diseased genes (Saetz, 1985. This practice, however, leads to intense discrimination against those with low status, low IQ, etc (Davis, 1981). The history of eugenics shows the ugly turn which genetics can take. The most prevalent example is that of the Nazi regime and its policy of killing off Jews and Gypsies, who were thought to be inferior (Saetz, 1985). Nazi and US compulsory sterilization laws, which sterilized the feeble minded, schizophrenic, epileptic, depressed, etc., is also another example (Saetz, 1985). 410,600 people were sterilized in Nazi Germany alone (Saetz, 1985). Berger talks about the human instinct and how we spend so little time in the womb that we never get to truly develop this instinct to help us survive in the world. He talks about this instinct not being prevalent in our lives to be the main cause as to why man created religion. I believe Berger s explanation of externalization as true because in our everyday lives we are always looking for ways to mold and shape our environment as we see fit for ourselves and in this process we go through what Berger describes as objectivating.
