Toy Soldiers War Strength Research Paper
If you re not familiar with tower defence games, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the perfect introduction
into the genre. It is the third installment in the series, developed by Signal Studios and published by
Ubisoft. Toy Soldiers: War Chest is incredibly simplistic and easy to get into. The tutorial introduces
you into the games mechanics by letting you play through a series of waves where enemy units attack
from multiple directions. You re objective is to simply defend your toy box by setting up turrets in
specific locations, with your defensive strategy alternaternating to counter what kind of enemy unit is
advancing on you. A countdown timer to the right of the screen gives you ample time to prepare for
the next attack, and informs you what is approaching. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since each wave continuously changes, you have to upgrade, or alter what kind of weaponry you have
defending specific parts of the battlefield. Turrets can be customised by adding sandbags for defence,
or upgrading the ammo. While battle is in full swing, you are continuously earning money which you
can spend on better turrets or repairing them. The ability to man the turrets is a cool feature that adds
an extra dimension to the game. If you wipe out enough of the oncoming enemy forces, your attack
meter charges allowing you to take control of one of the many toy heros you can choose from such as
He Man, or call in a bomb strike from a zeppelin. The enemy AI performs well enough. I wouldn t say
I was blown away by how it performed, but it is worth noting that if you make an avenue impossible
to infiltrate for the enemy, the AI is smart enough to look for other possibilities. The single player
campaign can be spiced up by giving you the option of a two player local co op. Also, you can have up
to four players online engaged in battle. The online modes perform solidly enough, and add some
much needed longevity to the

Analysis of Los Vendidos and Exploitation of Mexican Americans
The short play Los Vendidos portrayed by el Teatro Campesino shows the history of Mexican
Americans. It shows racist perceptions and actions towards Mexican Americans. The title itself
implies the exploitation of Chicanos. In translation from Spanish Vendidos can mean either those who
sell out others, or those who are sold. In the play either meaning can be applied. Those who are sold
would be the eleven different characters that Sancho describes. But, the sell out could be Ms. Jimenez,
a main character, who is the exemplary white washed Mexican American.
The Teatro Campesino was a theater group that originated on the picket lines in Delano in 1965. They

The buying and selling of these people shows the perception of Mexican Americans as property that
can be abused and manipulated.
Ms. Jimenez is the sell out or white washed Mexican American. This is displayed just as the play
begins when she introduces herself. Sancho hears her say her name as Ji mi nez and realizes she is a
Chicana. Excitedly, he starts to speak Spanish to her and pronounces her name in Spanish, Hee me
nez, stressing the second syllable. She corrects him saying that the Spanish pronunciation is not how
her name is pronounced. She quickly makes it apparent that she does not speak Spanish and does not
even want to be know as a Chicana. She rejects her own ethnicity, which is one example of how she is
a sell out. In any instance of such widespread oppression there has always been people who attempt to
hide or reject their own identity so that they might succeed or better survive in the environment of
their oppressors. Many times the oppressed people are taught to feel shameful of their heritage
because the racism is so ingrained in everyday life and culture. In 1924 a Chicano assistant assessor to
Reverend McLean in reporting on Colorado Mexicans, named J.B. Guerrero, reveals his own
resentment towards people who share his own ancestry, The Americans think we [Mexican
Americans] are no good; they class us with this trash that comes over from Mexico; we are greasers
and nothing more. We have suffered much from these

My Personal Experience With Heavenly Mother
Heavenly Mother, the New Jerusalem is the female image of God that gives eternal life in the Last
Days. For thousands of years people have known we have a Father in Heaven. What many still do not
know is that there is a prophecy being fulfilled right now, this very moment. This states that wo not
only have a Father in Heaven, but we also have a Heavenly Mother who is being revealed in the Last
Days to give us eternal life. I can truly believe in The New Jerusalem because I have personal
experience with her, the Bible clearly testifies about her as the spiritual life giver, and anyone can see
evidence of this fact even in nature.Through my personal experience with Heavenly Mother, I can say
truly she is God almighty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I came for the nest Sabbath day and that day I was baptized. That hole was filled, my heart was full,
and it knew that Heavenly Mother had saved my soul.Among the many prophecies in the Bible, one of
the most important is that concerning Heavenly Mother who gives life. Jesus came to this Earth about
two thousand years ago and he taught his disciples the way through which they could receive
salvation, that is, the Passover (Jn 6:53.) Even at that time hecould have given eternal life and taken
them to Heaven, but instead he told them to wait until the Last Days (Jn 6:54.) This is because that is
the time Heavenly Mother appears. In Matthew 22:1 10 Jesus told a parable, in which he compared the
Kingdom of Heaven to a wedding banquet. Being invited to thewedding banquet is the same as being
invited to the Kingdom of Heaven. To have a wedding there must be a groom, a bride, and guests. In
the parable there is a groom, and guests, but no bride even thoughthe bride is the most important piece
of a wedding. This is because she was not ready at Jesus s firstcoming, but at his second coming. That
s why Revelations 19:7 NIV says Let us rejoice and be glad and give him Glory! For the wedding of
the Lamb(Christ) has come, and his bride has made herself ready! The bride is ready in the Last Days.
Rev 21:9 10 say that this bride is the New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven. Just as Jesus is not

Summary Of Witchcraft Prosecutions And The Decline Of Magic
Witchcraft Prosecutions and the Decline of Magic JSTOR Article Review
Before the 1500s, prosecution of witches was rare. Trials were conducted against those who were seen
as suspects of practicing harmful magic and occasional mass trials (Bever, 2009, p. 263). These
accusations were often made by children and that of their imagination. The decline; however, occurred
not through the prosecutions but through its suppressing roles and the overall decline in witch beliefs
(Bever, 2009, p. 285). The title of the article is Witchcraft Prosecutions and the Decline of Magic and
it is written by Edward Bever. Bever is the Associate Professor of History, SUNY College at Old
Westbury. The author s purpose in writing this article was to inform the reader of the rise and decline
of witch prosecutions, along with their lasting effects on the society. The author s central argument is
that historians do not usually focus on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bever clarifies why he believes historians often focus only on the rise of witchcraft rather than their
decline. He believes the reason this occurs is because, historians assume their defeat seemed self
evident (Bever, 2009, p. 264). The author explains how the rise of witches occurred, chain reaction
trials started with a few stereotyped suspects but gradually widened to include previously unsuspected
commoners and eventually friends (Bever, 2009, p. 272). Bever also gives discusses of how witchcraft
came to affect the society and how it became an integral part of late medieval culture and society
(Bever, 2009, p. 288). The work relates more specifically to the field of the first centuries of
colonization because, although some ideas presented in this article can be inferred, most are not that of

A Pair Of Silk Stockings, A Shameful Affair, And The Story...
What is social expectation and how does it affects one s life? In the short stories A Pair of Silk
Stockings , A Shameful Affair , and The Story of Hour by Kate Chopin from the novel The Awakening
and Selected Stories of Kate Chopin, they uncover the expected roles and responsibilities of women in
the early 1900s. Through imagery and diction, Chopin reveals that people tend to fall into others
expectations upon their marriage and even before it, which leads to lose their personal freedom and
gain desires in conflict with social expectations.
First, numerous people especially women in the early 1900s fall into others expectations upon and
before their marriage. In A Pair of Silk Stockings and A Shameful Affair , two of their main characters
are women, and they both fall into societal expectations about them where they later lose their
freedom. For example, in A Pair of Silk Stocking , Chopin targets the social expectation upon one s
marriage where she describes the usual mother s responsibilities by saying A dollar or two should be
added to the price usually paid for Janie s shoes, which would insure their lasting an appreciable time
longer than they usually did () As Chopin utilizes imagery, this infers an image of what Mrs. Sommers
plans to do as a mother, who she carefully plan her money to buy new clothes for her children.
Moreover, the word insures means to arrange compensation for damage that is done to the event,
whereas the word appreciable means large enough to be noticed. Yet, both connotes a stable lasting
which further reveal that one of the mother s roles that is expected by the society is to know how use
the money wisely for their children without falling in debt. Thus, the responsibilities of a mother have
overloaded her where she later turn in self indulgent. Likewise, Chopin not only portrays how women
fall into others expectations upon their marriage yet they also fall into it before their marriage. In the
short story A Shameful Affair , the author describes the primary character as Mildred Kraummer, who
she falls in love with the one of the farmhands. While Mildred meets him fishing, they accidentally
give a kiss where the author narrates He kissed her lips... Shame

Cold Blood Is A Book By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood is a book written by Truman Capote. It s a non fictional book written in the style of a
creative fictional book. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve murdered four
members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to leave no evidence,
clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure out the mystery of the
Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until they get found out and get
taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the ultimate punishment. Because this
novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get all the details from the actual event. Just
like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV news report, these details can get tedious and
boring. When writing this book, Capote had the intention of giving the story a creative style that
would capture the reader as any fictional book would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how
to mix his writing style between realistic and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the
story, Truman Capote has the intention to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the
environment of the story. He wants us to feel the realistic tone of the story that it s following. In order
to do so, he creates a lot of buildup to the scenery before any major events crop up. Before the main
murder of the Clutter family occurs, Capote spends a decent amount of

The Disney Princess Effect Essay
The Disney princesses are a common sight in any household with girls under the age of 8. However,
these seemingly harmless women contribute to a darker theme in media. In her essay, Little Girls or
Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect , Stephanie Hanes uses storytelling, strong facts, and
helpful alternatives to effectively persuade parents that the media is targeting young girls with
sexualized content, argues that this content is harmful to them in a number of ways, and inspires
parents to take action. Stephanie Hanes utilizes emotive storytelling to connect with her readers and to
show them specific examples of how sexualized media can impact young girls. One story that Hanes
uses is that of Mary Finucane and her daughter Caoimhe. When her daughter was around three years
old, Finucane began to see a change in how Caoimhe acted. She would no longer run around like one
would expect of a carefree toddler, instead she would sit around and wait for her prince (Hanes 509).
This change in behavior alarmed Mary Finucane, and she began to suspect that the Disney princesses
were to blame. After further research, Finucane came to realize that these princesses led to problems
from self objectification to cyberbullying to unhealthy body images. (Hanes 510). Prompted by her
experience, Finucane decided to start a blog dedicated to her attempt to break the grip that Disney had
on her daughter (Hanes 510). Finucane s blog gained popularity, as many other parents were having

Graffiti Is Not Art Essay
Art. Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual
form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or
emotional power. (google). That s kind of a lot. Basically, art is anything created as a product of
human creativity and imagination to portray a message, trigger an emotion, or just, look good. That
being said, what isn t art? Anything, from the mona lisa to the projects sitting around this room were
made by human imagination and creativity to portray a message or just be beautiful. What if you were
told, that all of the hard work that was put into those projects and paintings, was illegal? Not accepted
by some people as art, and frowned upon.
Graffiti is a controversial topic in some areas that would say that graffiti can t be considered art. But
how can t it be considered art? Does the location or the message of the art make it any less art? How
much do people even know about graffiti, which is judged upon so hard in today s era? Graffiti has
been used many times in history to preserve and show political and religious ideas of the past. Street
artists are preserving the history that is deemed illegal at this time. Graffiti itself is history, and it tells
stories as well as preserving cities and adding a creative aspect to everyday life. The ...first forms of
scripture and storytelling ... were through drawings on walls. Stories passed through generations...
were preserved on rocks or walls. (Lloyd, Alexis). Now street artists are simply doing the same,
whether it s murals, tags, or people just messing around; They are preserving the unique cultures that
we have today, or trying to make a name for themselves through art, or portray a political message.
85% of graffiti is just tags. (Akbar, Airfa). People s names or words made to look interesting. People
trying to preserve their name through art. And this is considered a crime. Splashing your political
views on a building through a mural to some people is offensive and the fact that this is illegal is a
violation of the 1st amendment. Making graffiti or street art illegal is limiting an expression of people
s ideas and religion.

The Kite Runner And Oedipus Rex Comparison Essay
As I read The Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex I came to a realization that both the books were very
graphic. In The Kite Runner I discovered that Hassan had been raped by Assef, and Amir had no
intentions to stop what was happening to stand up for his best friend. That gruesome experience can
translate to what happened in Oedipus Rex. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus wife, Jocasta, winds up killing
herself knowing that she married her son, but that s not it. At the very end of the book Oedipus stabs
himself in the eyes out. Those horrific images only happened due to the theme betrayal and not being
able to step up and say the truth until it s too late.
In the book The Kite Runner, Amir ruined Hassan and his friendship because he was too much of a
coward. Amir was considered a coward and even called himself a coward in the book due to the fact
he was afraid to stand up for his friendship when Hassan needed him the most. As Hassan was in the
alley getting raped by Assef, Amir says, I stopped watching, turned away from the alley...I could step
into the alley, stand up for Hassan and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the
end, I ran (Hosseini 77). Amir in this situation thought about himself and instead of standing up for
Hassan like Hassan has always done for him, Amir chooses to not help. He was too scared to get hurt.
The reason Amir did not go help Hassan was because he was too worried on finding Baba. Growing
up Baba never gave him the attention or

Miles Davis, Miles. Davis
Biography of Miles Davis
Miles Dewey Davis the Third was a musician; composer; genius. Davis wrote a large portion of the
music he played and he did not care what people thought about his music. Do not fear mistakes, there
are none. (Miles Davis 29). The amount of skill Davis must have had to keep on creating new,
original, different music is far beyond many people. Davis is one of the main contributing factors to
change jazz. He, alone, has made his own style, the Cool Jazz genre (Karl Scarborough 26). Davis is
surely one of the reasons I believe jazz is here to stay for a long time, and Davis thought so too. In
Davis life, he has done many great things and experienced some good things as well as some bad
things. Davis is a man whom, one might say, has seen in all. Even his childhood was different than
most people born in the 20s and 30s.
Davis was born the 26th of May, 1926 in Alton Illinois (John Szwed 13). Davis has one sister,

The International Expansion Into Shanghai
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is commonly attributed with the idea that nothing is constant but
change (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2011). This is particularly true in business. If an
organization is not changing and evolving with the market then they are stagnating and falling behind.
In this exercise XYZ, Inc. is pursuing an international expansion into Shanghai, China followed by an
expansion into four other international markets a year later. I believe XYZ, Inc. should use the
Systems Contingency Model to launch the international expansion in Shanghai because this change
model is complex enough to incorporate all the environmental requirements and a good tool to

The second and most complex phase is the transformation phase. During transformation,
organizational leadership must follow through on the vision. This is where the hard work takes place
by creating, manufacturing, and finalizing the product before distribution (Weiss, 2012). Leadership
will need to adhere to the organization s vision and strategy while ensuring that employees have the
resources required to complete their assignments and respond to changing requirements in the new
environment. This includes secure supply lines and an anticipation of the foreign commercial
marketplace.
If leadership at XYZ, Inc. has done their job properly it will be reflected in the output phase. Success
will be shown at the organizational level by percentage of market share, product quality and
competitiveness. At the group level success will result in synergy, performance and effectiveness.
Finally, at the individual level success will find employee satisfaction, performance, and development
and growth (Weiss, 2012). That is to say that when everything is running as it should, when all
dimensions are in sync, the System contingency model shows success in short term change.
The long term, large scale change into the B.R.I.C. countries is more of a transformational change in
that it includes a shift in radically different markets that require a different strategy and skills (Weiss,
2012). Leadership must

John Reflection
The main purpose of the Book of John is to deliver the news of salvation to readers (Elwell
Yarbrough, Encountering the New Testament: A Historical and Theological Survey, 101). Moreover,
John includes Jesus performance of nine extraordinary signs that the author and many other people
observed during Christ s ministry on earth. Their testimonies show readers that Jesus Christ is the
almighty Son of God, and His wonders displayed His greatness. During Christ s time on earth, He
served as a role model and provided teachings that serve as the basis that Christians still follow. Jesus
served many roles, such as a teacher, servant, healer, and helper. Yet, many people were in awe of
Jesus great power in John, and the eyewitness accounts, which portray the life of Jesus in this Gospel,
inspired others to follow Christ (Encountering the New Testament: A Historical and Theological
Survey, 97). Jesus miracles in John include: turning water into wine, healing people, feeding the five
thousand, walking on water, resurrection, miraculous appearance of the fish, and raising Lazarus from
the dead (Holy Bible, John, 2 21). The first marvel Jesus performed was when He changed the water
into wine. Jesus and His disciples attended a marriage ceremony in Cana in Galilee, and Jesus mother
informed Him that they drank all of it. Several pots were available. Thus, Jesus instructed the servants
to fill up several containers of water and take some of it out to take to the man in charge of

Why Do Lincoln Use Significant Figures
Any good chemist would understand that when Abraham Lincoln said four score and seven years ago
he was actually using significant figures. The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th
while Lincoln delivered this speech on November 19th. This means that it actually occurred four
score, seven years, four months, and 12 days before. Admittedly that does not roll off the tongue as
smoothly, so it s understandable that Lincoln would only use two significant figures. Significant
figures are the reason that the beginning lines of the Gettysburg address will forever be remembered
by Eighth graders across the country. Without the use of significant figures, numbers in chemistry
wouldn t have any meaning. I could say 2g when I m really ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If you are given a measurement of 4g and a measurement of 4.0001g, you would understand that the
equipment used to measure 4.0001g is much more precise than the equipment used to measure 4g.
Although significant figures tell us about the precision of the measurement, we really cannot attest to
the accuracy of the measurement unless we are sure of the correct answer. The same rule about the
estimated digit is applied when taking measurement. The way to report an analog measurement is to
write down all the digits you are confident in and estimate one digit further. For example, if using a
10ml graduated cylinder with nine markings in between the numbers 1ml and 2ml and the liquid falls
between 1.5ml and 1.6ml, but closer to 1.5ml, the digits you are confident in are 1 and 5. Therefore
you estimate another digit which you think it could be such as 1.53ml. When making a digital
measurement, the rule is to always write down every digit while understanding that the last digit is an
estimation. There are also a few important differences between the course policy and the textbook.
One is that the book states that if you place a $#$#0$#$# to the right of trailing zeroes, it would make
those zeroes significant e.g. 500. has 3 significant figures while 500 has 1. This is not true and they
should be ashamed. Another difference is in the convention of marking significant figures. In this
course, Professor Halpin will underline all significant figures to identify them. It just makes it easier to
get the correct answer while rounding to the correct number of significant figures. The book does not

Three hours later, I m standing behind a two foot, wood counter with a black tee shirt and skinny jeans

Causes Of The Weimar Republic
1918 was a particularly tumultuous year for Germany, and ultimately served as a catalyst in the
creation of the Weimar Republic, which spanned from 1919 to 1933. For starters, in 1918 Kaiser
Wilhelm II abdicated after a mutiny formed regarding the German decision to launch a suicidal assault
against the British navy in an attempt to salvage some honor following World War I . To avoid future
chaos, a new constitution was created in the spring of 1919. The result was a compromise, intended to
appease both sides of the German political spectrum. Specifically, the basic format of the government
was based around a president, a chancellor, and a parliament or Reichstag . Furthermore, the president
was an elected official, which indicated that the Germans were moving away from a monarchy
towards a democracy ( The Weimar Republic ). Although the creation of this constitution suggested
political progression, conflict continued. One of most infamous example of the Weimar Republic s
failure to maintain order occurred in 1920, when right wing paramilitaries seized power , known as the
Kapp Putsch. Then three years later, mayhem nearly reigned again with Hitler s attempted coup .
However, Hitler s, the Beer Hall Putsch, was stopped as the result of military intervention ( The
Weimar Republic ). Socially, the Weimar Republic was a time when Jews still served in high office,
held important places in the civil service and the judiciary, and studied and taught in Germany s great

The Problem Of Economics And Violence
Economics and violence can be seen as closely linked, due to the fact that in news stories today crime
is usually associated with poverty. There is hardly a time when I read the news and the headline doesn
t include a story about an area of lower class people being neglected within their own state. When I
think about economics the first thing that comes to mind is poverty and inequality. All around the
world disparities between the rich and poor, even in the wealthiest of nations is rising quickly. More
people are finding it difficult to support their families as well as maintain a steady paying job.
Structural violence has a major role in economics when it comes to lower class people feeling under
represented by their government officials due to their socio economic statuses, and access to healthy
living. They have no self determination. The reading points out how the poor tend to have very little to
say in government decision making, which generally takes place on behalf of the wealthy and
powerful (453 Barash Webel).
One key aspect of structural violence is that it is often hard to see. In states a lot of things are
overlooked because everything on the outside looks great. Even more difficult than identifying
structural violence is assigning culpability. When people do not have access to the proper medicines
whom do you blame? This often times leads to death. According to Jeong, the world is divided by
income gaps between the rich and the poor (87). This gap has

The Dangers Of Animal Rights
Animal Rights Animal Rights isn t something that should be taken lightly. There s animals in many
places that are neglected, and unloved. The most reported cases of abuse is from dogs, cats, horses,
and livestock. Intentional animal cruelty is strongly related with other crimes, including violence
against people(Animal Cruelty Facts and Stats). I have three dogs, two of my dogs are rescues from
situations similar to what you will read in my paper. Why are animals not given the same rights as
humans? I want to know why people feel the need to hurt animals. I want to understand why it would
even cross their minds to hurt a defenseless animal. I read this from an article online. I found it
shocking, and made me sick to my stomach. Earlier this week, Paul Rogers from Gloucestershire was
jailed for 16 weeks after he admitted that he had microwaved his pet rabbit. Rogers a man with a
history of psychiatric problems claimed he carried out the act because he was angry at not being
prescribed some medication that he said he needed. But what typically possesses anyone to inflict
such acts of intentional animal torture and cruelty? (IATC) There are many types of IATC including
individuals that do it: as a religious ritual sacrifice; as an artistic sacrifice (e.g. killing animals in films
such as the controversial Cannibal Holocaust); because they have psychological disorders (such as
antisocial/psychopathic personality disorders and engage in deliberate acts of zoosadism),

Ice in space may break out the bubbly. Zapping simulated space ice with imitation starlight makes the
ice bubble like champagne. If this happens in space, this liquidlike behavior could help organic
molecules form at the edges of infant planetary systems. The experiment provides a peek into the
possible origins of life.
Shogo Tachibana of Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, and colleagues combined water,
methanol and ammonia, all found in comets and interstellar clouds where stars form, at a temperature
between ‒263° Celsius and ‒258° C. The team then exposed this newly formed ice to ultraviolet
radiation to mimic the light of a young star.

Individuality Vs Conformity
It can be seen in our everyday lives how easy it is for people to conform to the social norms of a group
or society. Wayne Dyer once said When you re just like everybody else, you ve nothing to offer other
than your conformity and I believe that this statement couldn t be more accurate. Recently, it has
become more acceptable for people to express their individuality and showing one s true colours is
being promoted. It is better to be a unique individual than to conform to society because conformity
destroys personal growth and development. We need to express our originality and by conforming to
what others want us to be, we squander any chance of achieving self acceptance. People are more
likely to conform is when they are placed in a group setting. An individual will not want to break the
group unanimity so they will conform to whatever decision the group comes to, even if it goes against
their beliefs or values. I firmly believe that if we pay less attention to what others expect of us and
expressing our individuality, we can offer more to society and develop and grow as human beings.

Group conformity can have negative aspects to it when the group one is joining is violent and does
harmful acts. The pressure that comes from group conformity can often lead people to do activities
that they know is wrong or that go against their beliefs and values. Groups often provide a sense of
belonging which is why the members of a group will be more likely to perform unacceptable acts. If
someone were to join a gang, for instance, then they will do whatever they need to in order to feel that
sense of belonging. This is when there can be negative aspects to group conformity, when the group
you are conforming to performs dangerous or illegal activities. However, there are moments when

Pearl S Buck s The Good Earth
The Good Earth, by Pearl S Buck, is set in China during the early 20th century, on a farm owned by
Wang Lung. Wang Lung is, at the beginning of the novel, a traditional poor farmer who works from
sunup to sundown on his field. He marries and has children with a former slave of the great House of
Hwang, named O lan; they have several sons and daughters together. By the end of the novel, the
family is wealthy enough to be called a Great House and because of this, his family is able to live in
luxury. Only one son, the third son, works as a farmer until he quits to become a soldier. This causes
the sons to think that the family s traditions no longer extend to them and that they do not have to

Essay Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction
Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD, but commonly referred to as heart failure) is a chronic,
progressive cardiac syndrome in which a damaged heart fails to beat efficiently and deliver enough
blood to meet the body s needs. Although coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause,
for example, myocardial infarction, and many of the conditions are intertwined, there are several other
causes of heart failure including cardiomyopathies, hypertension and valve disease.
Cardiomyopathies can be caused by genetic disorders/defects, viral illness, some endocrine
conditions, autoimmune diseases, and excessive use of alcohol and drugs. Pharmacology treatment of

Some family members had sudden early deaths and no other current family members identified with
the deficient gene showed signs and symptoms of heart failure.
Mutations and misprints of gene MYBPC3 have also been shown to be present in individuals with
HCA (Zaragoza et al, 2007) but this was not identified in Jane or her extended family. Some family
members had sudden infant/young deaths, and as mentioned earlier, some carried the defective gene
with no obvious problems. This leads us to the suggestion that perhaps environmental factors could
also have contributed to the homeostatic imbalances Jane was experiencing.
Morita (2005) stated that recent insights into molecular genetic causes of myocardial diseases have
highlighted the importance of single gene defects in the pathogenesis of heart failure . The information
we can collect from investigation of gene defects, and an understanding of how genetics contributes to
the development of heart failure, will ultimately help in prevention, treatment and possibly cure of
cardiomyopathies in the future but we must also consider the environmental factors role.

The Student Movement and German Terrorism Essay
Introduction The post Second World War period was a tumultuous time for Germany, as it entailed the
division of the nation into two distinct governmental entities West Germany and East Germany. As
West Germany emerged as a bulwark against the Communist led East Germany backed by the Union
of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), it effectively allowed itself to be modeled by the United States
(US) as the promoter of democracy in Western Europe. The Marshall Plan, which enabled West
Germany to resurrect its status as an industrialized economy, became the cornerstone of US

Post War Relationship of the United States (US) and Germany After the Second World War, Germany
was left with a responsibility even larger than what it had during the First World War. The slaughter of
millions of Jewish people by the Nazi regime placed Germany in an extremely bad light with regard to
its reputation and its defeat in the Second World War left it with almost nothing to give for reparations.
Therefore, the US led in reviving the economic and political fortunes of Germany, albeit controlling
just the western portion of its territory as the USSR took over the eastern portion. West Germany,
which came to be known as the Federal Republic of Germany, rapidly became a US stronghold in
Western Europe, particularly with the help of the Marshall Plan, which catalyzed the revival of
industrialization in the West German economy. East Germany, going under the formal name the
German Democratic Republic, became increasingly secluded from the US due to Soviet influence.
Trade activities and technological exchanges greatly characterized the economic relationship between
the US and West Germany factors that led the Americans to propagate its matters on foreign policy
related to the Cold War (Turner 148 175).

Book Of Job Rhetorical Analysis
The Book of Job opens with a description of Job, a blameless and upright man who is faithful to God
and adheres to His commandments. Satan suggests that the only reason Job is faithful to God is
because God has blessed him with only good things in his life; Job has never had to experience
tremendous pain or suffering thus far. In response to this, God allows Satan to take away Job s
possessions, to kill his children, and to inflict bodily harm to him in an attempt to get Job to turn on
God. After all these horrible things happen, Job still refuses to curse God s name. Instead, Job begins
to curse the things around him, questioning why he was ever born in the first place and wondering
why God is allowing this to happen. In Job 40 42, God asks Job a series of rhetorical questions that ...

this seeming inconsistency is that there is life beyond the grave which gives a distinct experience that

The science behind Cannabinoids
There have been a lot of changes in the legal aspects of marijuana production and use. Many states

laws become more lenient, the opportunities to study and understand exactly how cannabinoids work
have also become prevalent. Many of these studies have discovered some fascinating facts concerning

Theoretical Approaches To Personality Analysis
While reading through chapter eleven of my psychology textbook, I discovered that the four main
theoretical approaches to personality include the psychodymanic approach, the triat approach, the
social congnitive approach, and lastly, the humanistic psychology approach. The first theory the book
establishes is the psychodymanic apporach, also known as Frued s Theory, states that a person s
personality is not due to a specific set of factors but rather that personality is determined by many
factors such as a human s drives for food, sex, aggression, ect., as well as a person s unconscious
processes, and a person s early childhood influences, most specifically a person s parents or gaurdians.

After the conclusion of the personality test, the test described myslef as being a people person, an

and too permissive, and my limitation as being failing to follow through on past commitments and
failure with self disipline. I also scored almost equally on the lion personlity which means that while I
am mostly an otter I also have very developed skills in leading. The trait theory, I believe, is the easist
way of desribing a person s personality because you do not have to look into a person s past to
determine why a person s personaity is the way it is but rather the trait view just observes a person s
personality. The trait theory though falls though because it does not expain why people act the way
they do or why they have prejudices. The social cognitive approach argues that a person s persoanity
is learned whether than inherit our personaities. This follows through with some ideas in gender
theory stating that a person s gender traits are also learned by society than inherited. This also releates
to Frued s theory of parent involvment in a human s personality because a person s parents will be
most around a child generally in that child s early development which allows for that child to
generally delevop the traits of their parents and then hold on to those traits throughout their

Analysis of Plato s Allegory of the Cave Essay example
Analysis of Plato s Allegory of the Cave
Plato s Allegory of the Cave presents a vision of humans as slaves chained in front of a fire observing
the shadows of things on the cave wall in front of them. The shadows are the only reality the slaves
know. Plato argues that there is a basic flaw in how we humans mistake our limited perceptions as
reality, truth and goodness. The allegory reveals how that flaw affects our education, our spirituality
and our politics.
The flaw that Plato speaks about is trusting as real, what one sees believing absolutely that what one
sees is true. In The Allegory of the Cave, the slaves in the caves know that the shadows, thrown on the
wall by the fire behind them, are real. If they were to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people must teach the others of the reality outside of the cave, outside of the slaves reality. These
are the philosophers. The capacity to learn exists in the soul. Humans need to use their whole soul to
learn, not just use their eyes. Plato writes, the power and capacity of learning exists in the soul
already; and that just as the eye was unable to turn from the darkness to light without the whole body,
so too the instrument of knowledge can only by the movement of the whole soul be turned from the
world of becoming into that of being. (Jacobus 320).
According to Plato, human beings misperception about reality also affects one s spiritual growth.
When the slave makes the ascent and sees the sun, he might mistake it for God. Plato writes, He will
then argue that this [the sun] is he, the guardian of...the visible world...the cause of all things (Jacobus
318). Having moved from darkness into light, the slave comes to the conclusion that this bright light
must be God. Plato argues that one?s soul holds knowledge of what is true. When one learns, one
simply remembers. People originate from Heaven where they knew the truth. In the Bible it states,
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day (Corinthians
II, 4:16). One is renewed day by day by remembering things that their soul knows, but that they have
forgotten.

Global Cliimate Change War
Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III claims that global climate change is the most imposing threat in the
Pacific Ocean rather than military threats found from other countries. This piece of information from
Admiral Locklear deserves the attention of the American people, because the Admiral is putting global
climate change and its effects ahead of the safety of the American people from other military
powers/threats. Admiral Locklear s claim is flawed for these reasons: he is neglecting current affairs
with nuclear threats from North Korea, conflict between China/Japan, and he is putting the safety of
the American people second to helping other countries from the threat of global climate change.
According to Admiral Locklear, global climate change in the Pacific Ocean is a much more daunting
threat to the U.S. military based in the Pacific, rather than other military threats. Locklear states that
climate change will, cripple the security environment, probably more likely than the other scenarios
we all often talk about. The Admiral also mentions how the Pacific Ocean and the long term threats to
the peace of East Asia, is found at the center of the Obama administration s defense strategy, and that
protecting these regions from climate change threats should be the top priority. Locklear s forces again

According to Jeb Hensarling, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, if the 21st

Culture of food in Israel and Palestine
This quote illustrates national identity and ethnicity through food, Tell me what you eat, and I ll tell

because culture and food, creates unity in a nation. In the case of Israel the Zionist organization used
food as a tool to create a sense of identity and nationalism for the people of Israel by encouraging
consumption of Kosher and Israeli produced foods. Israel like the United States, is an immigrant
nation; so naturally many different foods and recipes are brought with the new immigrants from the
countries they came from Europe to Africa. It s great to see, how food is used to unite a nation as one.

learned, memorable experiences, and personal growth. Some concepts i learned were . In Mrs.sanchez
5th period class we learned about sexual reproduction with grasshoppers. We learned about the genes
and what sexual reproduction means. Sexual reproduction means a genetic material from 2 parents
combined to make a new organism. And also meiosis sperm an egg during chromosomes the pairs
separate. A fun memory I had these days we re working with my group and they would think it was
weird everytime they say sexual reproduction.we also learned that chromosomes theory of inheritance
genes are carried from parents to their offspring on chromosomes. A question me and my group had
was why do they travel in pairs? we never answered it. We also learned about mendel s work. Mendel
s work showed that the dominant alleles don t come up as present when another is present. Each
human has 23 chromosomes. And grasshoppers have 24 chromosomes which is just 12 pair. Some
more questions my group had was do other insects have more chromosomes? And can more than half
of a parent s chromosomes go to its offspring? And before we started we had to write down a question
and it was what is mendel s work? sutton hypothesize that chromosomes were the key to
understanding how offspring have traits similar to

Jesus s Love Through Servant Leadership And Compassion...
Nicholas Smith
Relational Dynamics
Mr. Bauer
December 8, 2015
Jesus Love Jesus expresses love through servant leadership and compassion for others. He heals others
and makes sure to lead by example, and serve his followers. He expresses all types of love except for
eros.
Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either
romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God. As I explored the definition by means of
the Internet, books, and articles I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same
basic understanding. The definition I found in was probably the most simple and most basic. It refers
to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All in which can only be defined
by one word and that it love.
The definitions of love are the same and yet different. Godly, for instance is the love of God, and your
devotion and respect toward him, the creator. In all religion, god carries the same aspect. Fraternal
love is the love of ones family and relatives, even the love of one who is close to you, in that respect,
such as a friend. Then there s romantic love; a love between two people, which I consider to be both
intimate and sexual. Older dictionaries and encyclopedias usually refer to the romantic aspect of love,
as the love in which is experience between man and woman. In today s society it is said that romantic
love can be found regardless of your gender and based on

Essay about Character, Values and Morals in Huckleberry Finn
Character, Values and Morals in Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn is perhaps one of the most controversial novels the North American
Continent has ever produced. Since its publication more than a hundred years ago controversy has
surrounded the book. The most basic debate surrounding Twain s masterpiece is whether the book s
language and the character of Jim are presented in a racist manner. Many have called for the book to
be banned from our nation s schools and libraries. Mark Twain s novel is about a young boy who was
raised in the south before slavery was abolished, a place where racism and bigotry were the fabric of
every day life. The novel is the account of how Huck Finn, who is a product of these ... Show more

Huck s father is absent until he finds out that Huck has found some money. Pap is an outcast full of
hate for blacks and pretty much for all of society. Huck, as a product of his society, speaks the
language of his society. By choosing as his point of view a young boy from the slave south, Twain is
able to present and challenge the values and assumptions of this time. Among the assumptions and
values of the time that the reader encounters in the book are the strict definitions pertaining to Huck s
world and the people who inhabit it:
The world of Huckleberry Finn presents a curious mixture of Calvinist principles and aristocratic
ideals. . . . We meet most of the fundamentalist Christian sects from their Sunday schools to their
Methodist and Presbyterian churches; from Revivalist camp meetings to lay preachers (like brother
Phelps) and ministers (like the Wilks brothers). We meet representatives of all three classes from
upper and lower orders of the ruling Whites to Blacks. For that is the first division: Whites (who are
people ) and Blacks (just niggers ). People , in their turn are further divided into two castes: the quality
and plain folks.
(Beaver 64 5)
In order for Huck to challenge any of the values and assumptions of the time he must first be
acquainted with them. And he is not only intimately acquainted with the values of his society but he
holds many of its beliefs himself. But Huck longs for freedom away

Grappling With Grief By The Survivor Essay
Grappling with Grief Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death, (Brainyquote.com, 2016).
Life in this day and age may often seem unkind, society is inherently violent, as demonstrated in
popular films and television series. Many individuals seek to obtain professions that require the
employee to regularly stake their own livelihood and safety on the line. Accompanied by the risk
necessary to earn nominal wages, exists the probability that friends and co workers, with whom one
may have developed a personal closeness and affection, will from time to time be injured and killed in
the line of duty. With added longevity in that career, death comes part and parcel. Chalking it up to
being the nature of the beast, may be a successful defensive posture for a period of time. For many
people, however, the day will inevitably come when reflection and introspection become more
frequent, guilt sets in for having lived while many others perished. The fairness of life being called
into question by the survivor, the long term psychological effects become insurmountable
(Goodtherapy.org, 2016). The bereavement just described is a condition known as survivor s guilt, and
is just one of many symptoms that can be expected when grappling with loss of life complexities.
Conceptually, death is often regarded as somewhat of a forbidden topic; this attitude may lend itself to
limited awareness of grieving processes that can cripple the bereaved. Regardless of career choice,
death is

A Brief Note On Arthritis And Its Effects On The Body
Jacob Hunnicutt
MED 2047
Gouty Arthritis
Instructor: Michelle Earixson Lamothe

VNFT031
Gouty arthritis, more commonly known as gout, is a very painful condition that primarily affects the
joints especially those of the great toe, ankles, wrist, and fingers. Gout is most commonly seen in men,
particularly those between the ages of 40 and 50 (Bradford, 2014 ). Gout is not a disease that is new to
society; it has been around for centuries. The first recorded incidence of gout was in Egypt in 2640
BC, to the Egyptians gout was called podagra (Nuki, 2006). Gout is highly linked to one s diet and in
history gout was known to affect the affluent population more than any other. Humans are the only
living organisms that seem to have the problem of gout. The reason this is so is most likely due to the
fact that in other organisms, such as reptiles, fish, dogs, have an enzyme, uricase, that is responsible
for the breakdown of uric acid. The leading cause of gout is due to the ineffective metabolism of
purines. When purines are ingested in the body it is converted into urate. Gout leads to hyperuricemia,
which is high blood uric acid levels. For a person who ingests a normal and balanced amount of
purines, the body is able to handle it and filter it out of the body via the kidneys. If a person has a
decreased function of their kidneys their chances of getting gout, alongside many other things,
significantly increases. The kidneys are responsible for

Igbo Body
In Africa, body modification is a sign of prosperity, wealth, power, and is a method of showing a
person s life story. The art form has existed for centuries and holds massive amounts of cultural
significance for African tribes. The village of Umuofia in Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart is
no exception. The Igbo utilize tattooing as a manner of reflecting the character and life experiences of
a person in a form visible to the people around them. In the novel, Okonkwo was the epitome of
manliness because of his athletic prowess and his position of power within the clan, emphasized on
page 26 of Achebe s work, He was talking about Okonkwo, who had risen so suddenly from great
poverty and misfortune to be one of the lords of the clan . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Okonkwo, a leader of the village, left in exile after offending the earth goddess, shown on page 124 of
Achebe s novel, The only course open to Okonkwo was to flee from the clan. It was a crime against
the earth goddess to kill a clansman... . He was at risk of mortality, but hoped for steadfastness in his
decision and reconciliation with the gods. Consequently, combining the physical representations of the
demonstrated traits is what creates a tattoo revealing the Igbos attachment to customs. Additionally, a
tattoo also representing religion made with the symbols for guardianship, the presence of gods, and
trust is poignant when remembering the people of Mbanta s first reaction to European missionaries.
These men must be mad, they said to themselves. How else could they say that Ani and Amadiora
were harmless (Achebe 146)? Even in the face of change, the Igbo held on to their religion and kept
faith in their gods. Similarly, when the stories of Europeans were being passed from village to village,
relations with them were rare, wary and considered foolish, shown on page 140 of Things Fall Apart,
Never kill a man who says nothing. Those men of Abame were fools . Later however, Okonkwo
experienced jealousy of the complete control the Europeans had over his old village. A tattoo
combining jealousy, relations, and wariness accurately depicts the reaction of the Igbo to the

The Battle Of The Somme Essay
In British history, the Battle of the Somme has become one of the most significant battles due to the
death and the horrendous casualties caused with that have made it become an emotive topic. It lasted
from 1st July to 18th November, 1916. The unnecessary sacrifice led to the view that the brave British
soldiers were lions led by donkeys who were sent to their deaths by uncaring and unskilful generals.
Many historians agree on the significance of the battle not in terms of its success or failure but how it
had important results including the reduction of the German army as well as how the battle had helped
the British learn valuable lessons to improve and prepare for future battles.
In the short term, there is no doubt that the battle was hugely significant due to the overall casualties
and large losses suffered by both sides. On the first day of the battle, the British infantry advanced
across no man s land into barbed wire which they thought was supposed to have been destroyed but
wasn t. It was the bloodiest day in the history of the British army as 19,000 soldiers were killed and
38,000 were wounded which made a significant total loss of 57,000. However most of the British
soldiers were pre conscriptions and volunteers who were not fully trained and they did not expect the
Germans to come out of their deep trenches ready to fight. These deaths were linked to poor tactics
and ineffective artillery. As the British soldiers advanced, they were mowed down by rifles and

The New Modern Global Automotive Industry
Today, the new modern global automotive industry includes the main manufacturers, General Motors,
Ford, Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, and Daimler Chrylser, all of that work in a competitive global
marketplace. It is recommended that the globalization of the automotive industry, has considerably
quickened during the 1990 s because of the production of great overseas oppurtunities and
establisment of incorporations between large multinational automakers. Industry professionals show
that the origins in the increase of international trade in the automotive sector, time back to the
technology transfer of Ford Motor Company s mass production type from the U.S. to Western Europe
and Japan following both World Wars I and II.2 The improvements in industrialization directed to
notable raises in the extension and production of the Japanese and German markets, specifically. The
second big trend in manufacturing globalization was the export of fuel economical cars from Japan to
the U.S. as a result of the oil prohibition from 1973 to 1974. Numbers from the Global Organization of
Motor Carrier Manufacturers point that the countries that produced the largest wheels were in
decreasing order China, the U.S., Japan, German, and South Korea with China s production being
about double that of the U.S. Sales numbers show that while bookings increased between 2005 and
2013, the extension by country was rough. In 2009 sales in the U.S. strike their deepest point while in

Community Poetry By Pablo Neruda
The Rationale
One of the aims of this project was to provide an opportunity for individuals, and more importantly
the oppressed, to liberate their minds. Language has immense power in liberating and creating
transformative social change. Freire (2005) states that language is never neutral and cannot exist
without thought (p. 96). Despite the fact, language can be used as a tool of control by the oppressors.
It also holds the ability to be used as a means of liberation. Using creative language, such as
contributing to the community poetry project, can grant individuals the ability to contemplate how
their individualistic modern selves fit within a greater community. This can lead to realization.
This would not be the first time that language, and more specifically poetry, has played an essential
role in liberation movements of the oppressed. A Chilean poet by the name of Pablo Neruda, for
instance, created works that were critical of society (Moran, 2009). Neruda s poetry gave a voice to a
population that felt ignored by their government and by the upper classes. The poems gave courage
and pride to the struggling working class (the oppressed). Chilean workers memorized his works by
heart and gathered in the streets to hear their poet (a poet of the people) recite his writings (Moran,
2009). Language, in this instance, had the ability to create a revolutionary spirit.
Many a great poet are not only critical of society, but of the injustices and inequitable relationships

Students With Disabilities And Their Education
Years of research have been done to help our understanding of how to effectively include students
with disabilities in general education classes. There are a lot of concerns of whether or not full
inclusion is appropriate for all students, how you address certain concerns, how to communicate and
involve parents and a lot of other things. Everyone has their own personal views and why they feel the
way they do. The controversy will always remain on the topic of students with disabilities and their
education. I am slowly starting to form an opinion on whether or not students with severe disabilities
should be allowed access to the regular education curriculum. I am sure that over time my opinion will
slightly change, but as of now I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Administrative support is a great thing to have behind special education because they can make sure
that the opportunity is provided to facilitate achievement for students with special needs to meet the
same goals as a general student. The purpose is to provide and maintain an environment that is most
conductive to the learning of both general and special education students. With administrative support,
it is easier to incorporate special help and anything else needed for special education students in a
regular education settings. Another aspect that helps administration can help with is the budget that
special education can receive. Special equipment and technology is needed for some students, which
costs money. Collaboration is a huge part of having special education and general education kids
together. Collaboration between general education teachers and special education teachers helps to
ensure that every student is getting an education, with specialized instruction, but in a general
education. There are many ways to help this happen. Teachers can always co teach, or have shared
classroom management. If it is needed, the special education student can take the student to an
alternative setting. One of the most important things is that both teachers have a consultation of work
to discuss instructional strategies. These collaboration techniques are why we can integrate special
education students in the general education classroom with their

  • 2. Toy Soldiers War Strength Research Paper If you re not familiar with tower defence games, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the perfect introduction into the genre. It is the third installment in the series, developed by Signal Studios and published by Ubisoft. Toy Soldiers: War Chest is incredibly simplistic and easy to get into. The tutorial introduces you into the games mechanics by letting you play through a series of waves where enemy units attack from multiple directions. You re objective is to simply defend your toy box by setting up turrets in specific locations, with your defensive strategy alternaternating to counter what kind of enemy unit is advancing on you. A countdown timer to the right of the screen gives you ample time to prepare for the next attack, and informs you what is approaching. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since each wave continuously changes, you have to upgrade, or alter what kind of weaponry you have defending specific parts of the battlefield. Turrets can be customised by adding sandbags for defence, or upgrading the ammo. While battle is in full swing, you are continuously earning money which you can spend on better turrets or repairing them. The ability to man the turrets is a cool feature that adds an extra dimension to the game. If you wipe out enough of the oncoming enemy forces, your attack meter charges allowing you to take control of one of the many toy heros you can choose from such as He Man, or call in a bomb strike from a zeppelin. The enemy AI performs well enough. I wouldn t say I was blown away by how it performed, but it is worth noting that if you make an avenue impossible to infiltrate for the enemy, the AI is smart enough to look for other possibilities. The single player campaign can be spiced up by giving you the option of a two player local co op. Also, you can have up to four players online engaged in battle. The online modes perform solidly enough, and add some much needed longevity to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis of Los Vendidos and Exploitation of... Analysis of Los Vendidos and Exploitation of Mexican Americans The short play Los Vendidos portrayed by el Teatro Campesino shows the history of Mexican Americans. It shows racist perceptions and actions towards Mexican Americans. The title itself implies the exploitation of Chicanos. In translation from Spanish Vendidos can mean either those who sell out others, or those who are sold. In the play either meaning can be applied. Those who are sold would be the eleven different characters that Sancho describes. But, the sell out could be Ms. Jimenez, a main character, who is the exemplary white washed Mexican American. The Teatro Campesino was a theater group that originated on the picket lines in Delano in 1965. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The buying and selling of these people shows the perception of Mexican Americans as property that can be abused and manipulated. Ms. Jimenez is the sell out or white washed Mexican American. This is displayed just as the play begins when she introduces herself. Sancho hears her say her name as Ji mi nez and realizes she is a Chicana. Excitedly, he starts to speak Spanish to her and pronounces her name in Spanish, Hee me nez, stressing the second syllable. She corrects him saying that the Spanish pronunciation is not how her name is pronounced. She quickly makes it apparent that she does not speak Spanish and does not even want to be know as a Chicana. She rejects her own ethnicity, which is one example of how she is a sell out. In any instance of such widespread oppression there has always been people who attempt to hide or reject their own identity so that they might succeed or better survive in the environment of their oppressors. Many times the oppressed people are taught to feel shameful of their heritage because the racism is so ingrained in everyday life and culture. In 1924 a Chicano assistant assessor to Reverend McLean in reporting on Colorado Mexicans, named J.B. Guerrero, reveals his own resentment towards people who share his own ancestry, The Americans think we [Mexican Americans] are no good; they class us with this trash that comes over from Mexico; we are greasers and nothing more. • 4. My Personal Experience With Heavenly Mother Heavenly Mother, the New Jerusalem is the female image of God that gives eternal life in the Last Days. For thousands of years people have known we have a Father in Heaven. What many still do not know is that there is a prophecy being fulfilled right now, this very moment. This states that wo not only have a Father in Heaven, but we also have a Heavenly Mother who is being revealed in the Last Days to give us eternal life. I can truly believe in The New Jerusalem because I have personal experience with her, the Bible clearly testifies about her as the spiritual life giver, and anyone can see evidence of this fact even in nature.Through my personal experience with Heavenly Mother, I can say truly she is God almighty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I came for the nest Sabbath day and that day I was baptized. That hole was filled, my heart was full, and it knew that Heavenly Mother had saved my soul.Among the many prophecies in the Bible, one of the most important is that concerning Heavenly Mother who gives life. Jesus came to this Earth about two thousand years ago and he taught his disciples the way through which they could receive salvation, that is, the Passover (Jn 6:53.) Even at that time hecould have given eternal life and taken them to Heaven, but instead he told them to wait until the Last Days (Jn 6:54.) This is because that is the time Heavenly Mother appears. In Matthew 22:1 10 Jesus told a parable, in which he compared the Kingdom of Heaven to a wedding banquet. Being invited to thewedding banquet is the same as being invited to the Kingdom of Heaven. To have a wedding there must be a groom, a bride, and guests. In the parable there is a groom, and guests, but no bride even thoughthe bride is the most important piece of a wedding. This is because she was not ready at Jesus s firstcoming, but at his second coming. That s why Revelations 19:7 NIV says Let us rejoice and be glad and give him Glory! For the wedding of the Lamb(Christ) has come, and his bride has made herself ready! The bride is ready in the Last Days. Rev 21:9 10 say that this bride is the New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven. Just as Jesus is not a physical lamb, this Jerusalem is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of Witchcraft Prosecutions And The Decline Of Magic Witchcraft Prosecutions and the Decline of Magic JSTOR Article Review Before the 1500s, prosecution of witches was rare. Trials were conducted against those who were seen as suspects of practicing harmful magic and occasional mass trials (Bever, 2009, p. 263). These accusations were often made by children and that of their imagination. The decline; however, occurred not through the prosecutions but through its suppressing roles and the overall decline in witch beliefs (Bever, 2009, p. 285). The title of the article is Witchcraft Prosecutions and the Decline of Magic and it is written by Edward Bever. Bever is the Associate Professor of History, SUNY College at Old Westbury. The author s purpose in writing this article was to inform the reader of the rise and decline of witch prosecutions, along with their lasting effects on the society. Bever clarifies why he believes historians often focus only on the rise of witchcraft rather than their decline. He believes the reason this occurs is because, historians assume their defeat seemed self evident (Bever, 2009, p. 264). The author explains how the rise of witches occurred, chain reaction trials started with a few stereotyped suspects but gradually widened to include previously unsuspected commoners and eventually friends (Bever, 2009, p. 272). Bever also gives discusses of how witchcraft came to affect the society and how it became an integral part of late medieval culture and society (Bever, 2009, p. 288). The work relates more specifically to the field of the first centuries of colonization because, although some ideas presented in this article can be inferred, most are not that of the general ... • 6. A Pair Of Silk Stockings, A Shameful Affair, And The Story... What is social expectation and how does it affects one s life? In the short stories A Pair of Silk Stockings , A Shameful Affair , and The Story of Hour by Kate Chopin from the novel The Awakening and Selected Stories of Kate Chopin, they uncover the expected roles and responsibilities of women in the early 1900s. Through imagery and diction, Chopin reveals that people tend to fall into others expectations upon their marriage and even before it, which leads to lose their personal freedom and gain desires in conflict with social expectations. First, numerous people especially women in the early 1900s fall into others expectations upon and before their marriage. In A Pair of Silk Stockings and A Shameful Affair , two of their main characters are women, and they both fall into societal expectations about them where they later lose their freedom. For example, in A Pair of Silk Stocking , Chopin targets the social expectation upon one s marriage where she describes the usual mother s responsibilities by saying A dollar or two should be added to the price usually paid for Janie s shoes, which would insure their lasting an appreciable time longer than they usually did () As Chopin utilizes imagery, this infers an image of what Mrs. Sommers plans to do as a mother, who she carefully plan her money to buy new clothes for her children. Moreover, the word insures means to arrange compensation for damage that is done to the event, whereas the word appreciable means large enough to be noticed. Yet, both connotes a stable lasting which further reveal that one of the mother s roles that is expected by the society is to know how use the money wisely for their children without falling in debt. Thus, the responsibilities of a mother have overloaded her where she later turn in self indulgent. Likewise, Chopin not only portrays how women fall into others expectations upon their marriage yet they also fall into it before their marriage. In the short story A Shameful Affair , the author describes the primary character as Mildred Kraummer, who she falls in love with the one of the farmhands. While Mildred meets him fishing, they accidentally give a kiss where the author narrates He kissed her lips... Shame ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Cold Blood Is A Book By Truman Capote In Cold Blood is a book written by Truman Capote. It s a non fictional book written in the style of a creative fictional book. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve murdered four members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to leave no evidence, clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure out the mystery of the Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until they get found out and get taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the ultimate punishment. Because this novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get all the details from the actual event. Just like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV news report, these details can get tedious and boring. When writing this book, Capote had the intention of giving the story a creative style that would capture the reader as any fictional book would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how to mix his writing style between realistic and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the story, Truman Capote has the intention to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the environment of the story. He wants us to feel the realistic tone of the story that it s following. In order to do so, he creates a lot of buildup to the scenery before any major events crop up. Before the main murder of the Clutter family occurs, Capote spends a decent amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Disney Princess Effect Essay The Disney princesses are a common sight in any household with girls under the age of 8. However, these seemingly harmless women contribute to a darker theme in media. In her essay, Little Girls or Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect , Stephanie Hanes uses storytelling, strong facts, and helpful alternatives to effectively persuade parents that the media is targeting young girls with sexualized content, argues that this content is harmful to them in a number of ways, and inspires parents to take action. Stephanie Hanes utilizes emotive storytelling to connect with her readers and to show them specific examples of how sexualized media can impact young girls. One story that Hanes uses is that of Mary Finucane and her daughter Caoimhe. When her daughter was around three years old, Finucane began to see a change in how Caoimhe acted. She would no longer run around like one would expect of a carefree toddler, instead she would sit around and wait for her prince (Hanes 509). This change in behavior alarmed Mary Finucane, and she began to suspect that the Disney princesses were to blame. After further research, Finucane came to realize that these princesses led to problems from self objectification to cyberbullying to unhealthy body images. (Hanes 510). Prompted by her experience, Finucane decided to start a blog dedicated to her attempt to break the grip that Disney had on her daughter (Hanes 510). • 10. Graffiti Is Not Art Essay Art. Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. (google). That s kind of a lot. Basically, art is anything created as a product of human creativity and imagination to portray a message, trigger an emotion, or just, look good. That being said, what isn t art? Anything, from the mona lisa to the projects sitting around this room were made by human imagination and creativity to portray a message or just be beautiful. What if you were told, that all of the hard work that was put into those projects and paintings, was illegal? Not accepted by some people as art, and frowned upon. Graffiti is a controversial topic in some areas that would say that graffiti can t be considered art. But how can t it be considered art? Does the location or the message of the art make it any less art? How much do people even know about graffiti, which is judged upon so hard in today s era? Graffiti has been used many times in history to preserve and show political and religious ideas of the past. Street artists are preserving the history that is deemed illegal at this time. Graffiti itself is history, and it tells stories as well as preserving cities and adding a creative aspect to everyday life. The ...first forms of scripture and storytelling ... were through drawings on walls. Stories passed through generations... were preserved on rocks or walls. (Lloyd, Alexis). Now street artists are simply doing the same, whether it s murals, tags, or people just messing around; They are preserving the unique cultures that we have today, or trying to make a name for themselves through art, or portray a political message. 85% of graffiti is just tags. (Akbar, Airfa). People s names or words made to look interesting. People trying to preserve their name through art. And this is considered a crime. Splashing your political views on a building through a mural to some people is offensive and the fact that this is illegal is a violation of the 1st amendment. • 14. The Kite Runner And Oedipus Rex Comparison Essay As I read The Kite Runner and Oedipus Rex I came to a realization that both the books were very graphic. In The Kite Runner I discovered that Hassan had been raped by Assef, and Amir had no intentions to stop what was happening to stand up for his best friend. That gruesome experience can translate to what happened in Oedipus Rex. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus wife, Jocasta, winds up killing herself knowing that she married her son, but that s not it. At the very end of the book Oedipus stabs himself in the eyes out. Those horrific images only happened due to the theme betrayal and not being able to step up and say the truth until it s too late. In the book The Kite Runner, Amir ruined Hassan and his friendship because he was too much of a coward. Amir was considered a coward and even called himself a coward in the book due to the fact he was afraid to stand up for his friendship when Hassan needed him the most. As Hassan was in the alley getting raped by Assef, Amir says, I stopped watching, turned away from the alley...I could step into the alley, stand up for Hassan and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. In the end, I ran (Hosseini 77). Amir in this situation thought about himself and instead of standing up for Hassan like Hassan has always done for him, Amir chooses to not help. He was too scared to get hurt. The reason Amir did not go help Hassan was because he was too worried on finding Baba. Growing up Baba never gave him the attention or ... • 15. Miles Davis, Miles. Davis Biography of Miles Davis Miles Dewey Davis the Third was a musician; composer; genius. Davis wrote a large portion of the music he played and he did not care what people thought about his music. Do not fear mistakes, there are none. (Miles Davis 29). The amount of skill Davis must have had to keep on creating new, original, different music is far beyond many people. Davis is one of the main contributing factors to change jazz. He, alone, has made his own style, the Cool Jazz genre (Karl Scarborough 26). Davis is surely one of the reasons I believe jazz is here to stay for a long time, and Davis thought so too. In Davis life, he has done many great things and experienced some good things as well as some bad things. Davis is a man whom, one might say, has seen in all. Even his childhood was different than most people born in the 20s and 30s. Davis was born the 26th of May, 1926 in Alton Illinois (John Szwed 13). Davis has one sister, Dorothy Davis, and one brother, Vernon Davis. Davis father is Miles Dewey Davis the Second. Davis mother is Cleota Henry Davis. Davis married Betty Davis and had four children, three sons and one daughter. Miles Dewey Davis the Fourth, Gregory Davis, Erin Davis and Cheryl Davis (Quincy Troupe 9). His humanity had also invoked our mortal s tendency to try to relate to everything. Anger had been known to be a hindrance, but the Flash had managed to use this weakness to be an effective hero. Even though anger can be disadvantageous, the Flash had managed to use it to his advantage. After witnessing his lover be murdered by his arch enemy in Flashpoint, Volume 2, ... The International Expansion Into Shanghai The Greek philosopher Heraclitus is commonly attributed with the idea that nothing is constant but change (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2011). This is particularly true in business. If an organization is not changing and evolving with the market then they are stagnating and falling behind. In this exercise XYZ, Inc. is pursuing an international expansion into Shanghai, China followed by an expansion into four other international markets a year later. I believe XYZ, Inc. should use the Systems Contingency Model to launch the international expansion in Shanghai because this change model is complex enough to incorporate all the environmental requirements and a good tool to highlight how the different internal dimensions of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second and most complex phase is the transformation phase. During transformation, organizational leadership must follow through on the vision. This is where the hard work takes place by creating, manufacturing, and finalizing the product before distribution (Weiss, 2012). Leadership will need to adhere to the organization s vision and strategy while ensuring that employees have the resources required to complete their assignments and respond to changing requirements in the new environment. This includes secure supply lines and an anticipation of the foreign commercial marketplace. If leadership at XYZ, Inc. has done their job properly it will be reflected in the output phase. Success will be shown at the organizational level by percentage of market share, product quality and competitiveness. At the group level success will result in synergy, performance and effectiveness. Finally, at the individual level success will find employee satisfaction, performance, and development and growth (Weiss, 2012). That is to say that when everything is running as it should, when all dimensions are in sync, the System contingency model shows success in short term change. The long term, large scale change into the B.R.I.C. countries is more of a transformational change in that it includes a shift in radically different markets that require a different strategy and skills (Weiss, 2012). • 18. John Reflection The main purpose of the Book of John is to deliver the news of salvation to readers (Elwell Yarbrough, Encountering the New Testament: A Historical and Theological Survey, 101). Moreover, John includes Jesus performance of nine extraordinary signs that the author and many other people observed during Christ s ministry on earth. Their testimonies show readers that Jesus Christ is the almighty Son of God, and His wonders displayed His greatness. During Christ s time on earth, He served as a role model and provided teachings that serve as the basis that Christians still follow. Jesus served many roles, such as a teacher, servant, healer, and helper. Yet, many people were in awe of Jesus great power in John, and the eyewitness accounts, which portray the life of Jesus in this Gospel, inspired others to follow Christ (Encountering the New Testament: A Historical and Theological Survey, 97). Jesus miracles in John include: turning water into wine, healing people, feeding the five thousand, walking on water, resurrection, miraculous appearance of the fish, and raising Lazarus from the dead (Holy Bible, John, 2 21). The first marvel Jesus performed was when He changed the water into wine. Jesus and His disciples attended a marriage ceremony in Cana in Galilee, and Jesus mother informed Him that they drank all of it. Several pots were available. Thus, Jesus instructed the servants to fill up several containers of water and take some of it out to take to the man in charge of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th while Lincoln delivered this speech on November 19th. This means that it actually occurred four score, seven years, four months, and 12 days before. Admittedly that does not roll off the tongue as smoothly, so it s understandable that Lincoln would only use two significant figures. If you are given a measurement of 4g and a measurement of 4.0001g, you would understand that the equipment used to measure 4.0001g is much more precise than the equipment used to measure 4g. Although significant figures tell us about the precision of the measurement, we really cannot attest to the accuracy of the measurement unless we are sure of the correct answer. The same rule about the estimated digit is applied when taking measurement. The way to report an analog measurement is to write down all the digits you are confident in and estimate one digit further. For example, if using a 10ml graduated cylinder with nine markings in between the numbers 1ml and 2ml and the liquid falls between 1.5ml and 1.6ml, but closer to 1.5ml, the digits you are confident in are 1 and 5. Therefore you estimate another digit which you think it could be such as 1.53ml. When making a digital measurement, the rule is to always write down every digit while understanding that the last digit is an estimation. There are also a few important differences between the course policy and the textbook. One is that the book states that if you place a $#$#0$#$# to the right of trailing zeroes, it would make those zeroes significant e.g. 500. has 3 significant figures while 500 has 1. This is not true and they should be ashamed. Another difference is in the convention of marking significant figures. In this course, Professor Halpin will underline all significant figures to identify them. It just makes it easier to get the correct answer while rounding to the correct number of significant figures. The book does not do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Causes Of The Weimar Republic 1918 was a particularly tumultuous year for Germany, and ultimately served as a catalyst in the creation of the Weimar Republic, which spanned from 1919 to 1933. For starters, in 1918 Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated after a mutiny formed regarding the German decision to launch a suicidal assault against the British navy in an attempt to salvage some honor following World War I . To avoid future chaos, a new constitution was created in the spring of 1919. The result was a compromise, intended to appease both sides of the German political spectrum. Specifically, the basic format of the government was based around a president, a chancellor, and a parliament or Reichstag . Furthermore, the president was an elected official, which indicated that the Germans were moving away from a monarchy towards a democracy ( The Weimar Republic ). Although the creation of this constitution suggested political progression, conflict continued. One of most infamous example of the Weimar Republic s failure to maintain order occurred in 1920, when right wing paramilitaries seized power , known as the Kapp Putsch. Then three years later, mayhem nearly reigned again with Hitler s attempted coup . However, Hitler s, the Beer Hall Putsch, was stopped as the result of military intervention ( The Weimar Republic ). There is hardly a time when I read the news and the headline doesn t include a story about an area of lower class people being neglected within their own state. When I think about economics the first thing that comes to mind is poverty and inequality. All around the world disparities between the rich and poor, even in the wealthiest of nations is rising quickly. More people are finding it difficult to support their families as well as maintain a steady paying job. Structural violence has a major role in economics when it comes to lower class people feeling under represented by their government officials due to their socio economic statuses, and access to healthy living. They have no self determination. The reading points out how the poor tend to have very little to say in government decision making, which generally takes place on behalf of the wealthy and powerful (453 Barash Webel). One key aspect of structural violence is that it is often hard to see. In states a lot of things are overlooked because everything on the outside looks great. Even more difficult than identifying structural violence is assigning culpability. When people do not have access to the proper medicines whom do you blame? This often times leads to death. • 27. Individuality Vs Conformity It can be seen in our everyday lives how easy it is for people to conform to the social norms of a group or society. Wayne Dyer once said When you re just like everybody else, you ve nothing to offer other than your conformity and I believe that this statement couldn t be more accurate. Recently, it has become more acceptable for people to express their individuality and showing one s true colours is being promoted. It is better to be a unique individual than to conform to society because conformity destroys personal growth and development. We need to express our originality and by conforming to what others want us to be, we squander any chance of achieving self acceptance. People are more likely to conform is when they are placed in a group setting. An individual will not want to break the group unanimity so they will conform to whatever decision the group comes to, even if it goes against their beliefs or values. I firmly believe that if we pay less attention to what others expect of us and expressing our individuality, we can offer more to society and develop and grow as human beings. Living life as who ... The trait theory though falls though because it does not expain why people act the way they do or why they have prejudices. The social cognitive approach argues that a person s persoanity is learned whether than inherit our personaities. This follows through with some ideas in gender theory stating that a person s gender traits are also learned by society than inherited. This also releates to Frued s theory of parent involvment in a human s personality because a person s parents will be most around a child generally in that child s early development which allows for that child to generally delevop the traits of their parents and then hold on to those traits throughout their ... The allegory reveals how that flaw affects our education, our spirituality and our politics. (Jacobus 320). According to Plato, human beings misperception about reality also affects one s spiritual growth. When the slave makes the ascent and sees the sun, he might mistake it for God. Plato writes, He will then argue that this [the sun] is he, the guardian of...the visible world...the cause of all things (Jacobus 318). Locklear III claims that global climate change is the most imposing threat in the Pacific Ocean rather than military threats found from other countries. This piece of information from Admiral Locklear deserves the attention of the American people, because the Admiral is putting global climate change and its effects ahead of the safety of the American people from other military powers/threats. Admiral Locklear s claim is flawed for these reasons: he is neglecting current affairs with nuclear threats from North Korea, conflict between China/Japan, and he is putting the safety of the American people second to helping other countries from the threat of global climate change. According to Admiral Locklear, global climate change in the Pacific Ocean is a much more daunting threat to the U.S. military based in the Pacific, rather than other military threats. Locklear states that climate change will, cripple the security environment, probably more likely than the other scenarios we all often talk about. The Admiral also mentions how the Pacific Ocean and the long term threats to the peace of East Asia, is found at the center of the Obama administration s defense strategy, and that protecting these regions from climate change threats should be the top priority. Locklear s forces again and again have to respond to the disastrous weather occurrences that are growing more constant as the Earth s climate continues to change. However, these WYO insurance companies would also receive a reduction in reimbursements. These proposed changes to the NFIP also present improvements to flood mapping practices and addresses the issue of high risk properties, which owners rebuild at high costs following a flood (Simpson, 2017). According to Jeb Hensarling, Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, if the 21st Century Flood Reform Act became law, taxpayers would directly benefit through the competition of private companies to provide affordable flood insurance rates for homeowners. Republican Sean P. Duffy, the sponsor of the bill, spoke on the House floor and reinforced Hensarling s statement. Duffy claimed that introducing private companies would allow homeowners to select alternative flood insurance plans that may be cheaper than any available federal plans. Additionally, Duffy stated that private flood insurance companies would assist taxpayers in covering the costs resulting from a flood. Duffy concluded by not only stating that the 21st Century Flood Reform Act is a bipartisan bill but also reiterated its benefit to homeowners, and that it would directly contribute to reducing the national debt. The bill has also received support from the American Academy of Actuaries Casualty Practice Council, as well as from environmental groups, under the condition that it would undergo additional reforms in the Senate, such as to address flood mitigation and the financial ... • 40. Essay On Food In American Culture Culture of food in Israel and Palestine This quote illustrates national identity and ethnicity through food, Tell me what you eat, and I ll tell you who you are Brillat Savarin in 1825. Food can showcase a lot about a nation and its people because culture and food, creates unity in a nation. In the case of Israel the Zionist organization used food as a tool to create a sense of identity and nationalism for the people of Israel by encouraging consumption of Kosher and Israeli produced foods. Israel like the United States, is an immigrant nation; so naturally many different foods and recipes are brought with the new immigrants from the countries they came from Europe to Africa. It s great to see, how food is used to unite a nation as one. Whilst, Palestinian cuisine is interrelated to the foods of the Arab regions around it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you look at Palestine and Israel regionally, you will get of course like all countries different regional cuisine. The article Falafel: A National Icon , discusses start of falafel becoming a national icon for Israel; for instance when the first Jewish immigrants moved to the Middle East, because they wanted to adapt to the new land and become local, they began to pick up the Arab food like hummus and falafel which is very prevalent in Israeli cuisine today. It is an interesting issue to look at when nations argue over the origin of certain foods, like in the article, Hummus Wars , which takes about the conflict over hummus between Lebanon and Israel, although the same argument does occur with Palestine as well but to say that a certain dish belongs to one place over another is somewhat absurd; that would be like Italy arguing with New York over pizza. My 7th grade year at CMS was full of concepts learned, memorable experiences, and personal growth. Some concepts i learned were . In Mrs.sanchez 5th period class we learned about sexual reproduction with grasshoppers. We learned about the genes and what sexual reproduction means. Sexual reproduction means a genetic material from 2 parents combined to make a new organism. And also meiosis sperm an egg during chromosomes the pairs separate. A fun memory I had these days we re working with my group and they would think it was weird everytime they say sexual reproduction.we also learned that chromosomes theory of inheritance genes are carried from parents to their offspring on chromosomes. A question me and my group had was why do they travel in pairs? we never answered it. We also learned about mendel s work. Mendel s work showed that the dominant alleles don t come up as present when another is present. Each human has 23 chromosomes. And grasshoppers have 24 chromosomes which is just 12 pair. Some more questions my group had was do other insects have more chromosomes? And can more than half of a parent s chromosomes go to its offspring? And before we started we had to write down a question and it was what is mendel s work? sutton hypothesize that chromosomes were the key to understanding how offspring have traits similar to ... • 42. Jesus s Love Through Servant Leadership And Compassion... Nicholas Smith Relational Dynamics Mr. Bauer December 8, 2015 Jesus Love Jesus expresses love through servant leadership and compassion for others. He heals others and makes sure to lead by example, and serve his followers. He expresses all types of love except for eros. Love by definition is an emotion explored in philosophy, religion, and literature, often as either romantic love, the fraternal love of others, or the love of God. As I explored the definition by means of the Internet, books, and articles I noticed the definitions changed quite a bit, but yet had the same basic understanding. The definition I found in was probably the most simple and most basic. It refers to love in the whole aspect, which is Godly, fraternal, and romantic. All in which can only be defined by one word and that it love. The definitions of love are the same and yet different. Godly, for instance is the love of God, and your devotion and respect toward him, the creator. In all religion, god carries the same aspect. Fraternal love is the love of ones family and relatives, even the love of one who is close to you, in that respect, such as a friend. Then there s romantic love; a love between two people, which I consider to be both intimate and sexual. Older dictionaries and encyclopedias usually refer to the romantic aspect of love, as the love in which is experience between man and woman. In today s society it is said that romantic love can be found regardless of your gender and based on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Character, Values and Morals in Huckleberry Finn Character, Values and Morals in Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain s Huckleberry Finn is perhaps one of the most controversial novels the North American Continent has ever produced. Since its publication more than a hundred years ago controversy has surrounded the book. The most basic debate surrounding Twain s masterpiece is whether the book s language and the character of Jim are presented in a racist manner. Many have called for the book to be banned from our nation s schools and libraries. Mark Twain s novel is about a young boy who was raised in the south before slavery was abolished, a place where racism and bigotry were the fabric of every day life. By choosing as his point of view a young boy from the slave south, Twain is able to present and challenge the values and assumptions of this time. Among the assumptions and values of the time that the reader encounters in the book are the strict definitions pertaining to Huck s world and the people who inhabit it: The world of Huckleberry Finn presents a curious mixture of Calvinist principles and aristocratic ideals. . . . We meet most of the fundamentalist Christian sects from their Sunday schools to their Methodist and Presbyterian churches; from Revivalist camp meetings to lay preachers (like brother Phelps) and ministers (like the Wilks brothers). We meet representatives of all three classes from upper and lower orders of the ruling Whites to Blacks. For that is the first division: Whites (who are people ) and Blacks (just niggers ). People , in their turn are further divided into two castes: the quality and plain folks. (Beaver 64 5) In order for Huck to challenge any of the values and assumptions of the time he must first be acquainted with them. And he is not only intimately acquainted with the values of his society but he holds many of its beliefs himself. But Huck longs for freedom away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Grappling With Grief By The Survivor Essay Grappling with Grief Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death, (Brainyquote.com, 2016). Life in this day and age may often seem unkind, society is inherently violent, as demonstrated in popular films and television series. Many individuals seek to obtain professions that require the employee to regularly stake their own livelihood and safety on the line. Accompanied by the risk necessary to earn nominal wages, exists the probability that friends and co workers, with whom one may have developed a personal closeness and affection, will from time to time be injured and killed in the line of duty. With added longevity in that career, death comes part and parcel. Chalking it up to being the nature of the beast, may be a successful defensive posture for a period of time. For many people, however, the day will inevitably come when reflection and introspection become more frequent, guilt sets in for having lived while many others perished. The fairness of life being called into question by the survivor, the long term psychological effects become insurmountable (Goodtherapy.org, 2016). The bereavement just described is a condition known as survivor s guilt, and is just one of many symptoms that can be expected when grappling with loss of life complexities. Conceptually, death is often regarded as somewhat of a forbidden topic; this attitude may lend itself to limited awareness of grieving processes that can cripple the bereaved. • 45. A Brief Note On Arthritis And Its Effects On The Body Jacob Hunnicutt MED 2047 Gouty Arthritis Instructor: Michelle Earixson Lamothe 3/16/15 VNFT031 Gouty arthritis, more commonly known as gout, is a very painful condition that primarily affects the joints especially those of the great toe, ankles, wrist, and fingers. Gout is most commonly seen in men, particularly those between the ages of 40 and 50 (Bradford, 2014 ). Gout is not a disease that is new to society; it has been around for centuries. The first recorded incidence of gout was in Egypt in 2640 BC, to the Egyptians gout was called podagra (Nuki, 2006). Gout is highly linked to one s diet and in history gout was known to affect the affluent population more than any other. Humans are the only living organisms that seem to have the problem of gout. The reason this is so is most likely due to the fact that in other organisms, such as reptiles, fish, dogs, have an enzyme, uricase, that is responsible for the breakdown of uric acid. The leading cause of gout is due to the ineffective metabolism of purines. When purines are ingested in the body it is converted into urate. Gout leads to hyperuricemia, which is high blood uric acid levels. For a person who ingests a normal and balanced amount of purines, the body is able to handle it and filter it out of the body via the kidneys. If a person has a decreased function of their kidneys their chances of getting gout, alongside many other things, significantly increases. The kidneys are responsible for ... • 47. The Battle Of The Somme Essay In British history, the Battle of the Somme has become one of the most significant battles due to the death and the horrendous casualties caused with that have made it become an emotive topic. It lasted from 1st July to 18th November, 1916. The unnecessary sacrifice led to the view that the brave British soldiers were lions led by donkeys who were sent to their deaths by uncaring and unskilful generals. Many historians agree on the significance of the battle not in terms of its success or failure but how it had important results including the reduction of the German army as well as how the battle had helped the British learn valuable lessons to improve and prepare for future battles. In the short term, there is no doubt that the battle was hugely significant due to the overall casualties and large losses suffered by both sides. On the first day of the battle, the British infantry advanced across no man s land into barbed wire which they thought was supposed to have been destroyed but wasn t. It was the bloodiest day in the history of the British army as 19,000 soldiers were killed and 38,000 were wounded which made a significant total loss of 57,000. However most of the British soldiers were pre conscriptions and volunteers who were not fully trained and they did not expect the Germans to come out of their deep trenches ready to fight. These deaths were linked to poor tactics and ineffective artillery. As the British soldiers advanced, they were mowed down by rifles and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Community Poetry By Pablo Neruda The Rationale One of the aims of this project was to provide an opportunity for individuals, and more importantly the oppressed, to liberate their minds. Language has immense power in liberating and creating transformative social change. Freire (2005) states that language is never neutral and cannot exist without thought (p. 96). Despite the fact, language can be used as a tool of control by the oppressors. It also holds the ability to be used as a means of liberation. Using creative language, such as contributing to the community poetry project, can grant individuals the ability to contemplate how their individualistic modern selves fit within a greater community. This can lead to realization. This would not be the first time that language, and more specifically poetry, has played an essential role in liberation movements of the oppressed. A Chilean poet by the name of Pablo Neruda, for instance, created works that were critical of society (Moran, 2009). Neruda s poetry gave a voice to a population that felt ignored by their government and by the upper classes. The poems gave courage and pride to the struggling working class (the oppressed). Chilean workers memorized his works by heart and gathered in the streets to hear their poet (a poet of the people) recite his writings (Moran, 2009). Language, in this instance, had the ability to create a revolutionary spirit. Many a great poet are not only critical of society, but of the injustices and inequitable relationships ...
