The Effects Of Swedish Soil On The World
On Swedish soil, in September of 2014, a miracle happened. The world witnessed the first ever baby
to be born from a woman s transplanted womb. A healthy baby boy, to be exact. Scientists have
marveled over this new advancement simply because of the fact that they have been trying to do just
this for years without success. Trial after trial has been made over the years, but the professors and
scientists of the University of Gothenburg (where the baby was born) weren t giving up. And good
thing they didn t, because their work has certainly paid off. This is a huge landmark for medical
science all over the world, as there is now a way for women who have uterus problems (for one reason
or another) to have children.
For hundreds of years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of now, there are three options put forth to these women: adoption or gestational surrogacy. Uterus
transplantation (hereafter UTx ) creates a third option: to conceive and gestate a pregnancy, thereby
fulfilling what some women describe as a desire not just for my own child but for my own pregnancy .
(Catsanos, Ruby, Wendy Rogers, and Mianna Lotz.) While adoption and surrogacy are both very
viable options, uterus transplantation has become quite popular, even though the likelihood of actually
conceiving and birthing a child has been seemingly impossible until now. The procedure to remove a
uterus is called a hysterectomy. To prove just how popular these have become, an estimated total of 9
million woman of age to reproduce have had a hysterectomy, around 5,000 every year in the United
States alone.
These uterine transplants are performed by first surgically removing the woman s uterus (if she has
one) in a hysterectomy procedure, and then transplanting the healthy, donated uterus into its place.
Usually, in the first surgery to remove the uterus, the fallopian tubes and ovaries will both be removed
as well. To even be considered as a potential candidate for this surgery, the woman needs to be of
childbearing age, which in most cases, the women are in their 30s. However, this specific transplant is
only designed to be a temporary fix. The original idea for

The 400 Blows Directed By Francois Truffaut
Background: This film is considered a drama film and it came out in 1959 directed by Francois
Truffaut. Francois Truffaut was a successful director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and film critic and
he also was one of the founder of the French New Wave. The French New Wave was a movement
against the traditional ways that French Cinema had followed, most French cinema was more like
literature. The 400 Blows was written by Francois Truffaut and Marcel Moussy and is looked at as one
of the best French films in cinematic history. This film uncovers the injustices of the treatment of
juvenile offenders in France during that time. It was also written from inspiration from Truffaut s own
life. Screening Notes: Throughout this whole movie, there were many ... Show more content on

However, one part that I found incredible was the final scene and the cinematography involved in
order to make is as good as it was. This is when Antoine had run away and is on the beach looking at
the water. He had always wanted to go to the sea and this was his first time. The camera angle that
zoomed into his face highlights the dramatic moment. It was almost as if Antoine was looking directly
at us thorough the camera. I decided to do some research on this final scene and figured out that this
scene was monumental for the movie, I could understand why. The moment being captured is looked
at as Antoine being between land and sea but really being in between his past and future. This film
consisted of many interesting camera angles used to provide the audience with the best views to keep
up with Antoine. Another scene that used a great angle was when

Evaluation Of The Psychiatric Emergency Room
Anna s stay
The average stay in my unit, the psychiatric emergency room, is typically anywhere from four hours to
twenty four hours. One patient recently broke the record with her stay being close to two weeks. This
was a major concern for our unit as placement for her was difficult to find and staff had never dealt
with a stay this long in the past. This particular patient s story was heart breaking. The patient (I will
call her Anna) was a foster child who had been bounced around from home to home. Her most recent
foster family was an elderly couple who was well to do and took care of the patient in their 1.2 million
dollar home. Unfortunately, this child had some major behavioral issues and oppositional defiant
disorder as a result of her difficult upbringing. Therefore, her foster family finally had enough and
dropped the child off to our unit. She was a very challenging patient and her patience was being tested
as a result of her long stay as well as the nursing staff s patience. A typical day working with this
patient usually included the patient ending up in restraints. Restraints were a daily occurrence for her.
She spent the majority of her stay in the secure core. The secure core is an area in the psychiatric
emergency room that includes three rooms and a small nursing station. The secure core is reserved for
patients that pose a risk for themselves or for patients that are psychotic and have lost touch with
reality. The

The Psychological Impact Of Bullying
In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to find out
the cause or causes of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research comes in.
Research conducted to solve issues or problems in schools or educational systems are termed Action
Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in our education system we decided to
tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action research was to
attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate the occurrences of
bullying at J.P Eustace Secondary School. The J.P Eustace Secondary School is labelled by the
Vincentian public as being an unruly school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form
Four vocabulary level and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely
understand them. Also, we used the research questions to guide the construction of the questionnaires.
Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to determine which class bullying
cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in the form to find out who
has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way because it would not have
been efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not being bullied. To triangulate
the information that we were about to collect we decided to use interviews with the questionnaires.
This was to ensure that the information that was collected from the questionnaires were similar to
what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students who completed the questionnaires were
later interviewed. I would say that this part of the research mentioned is the most important as if it is
not done correctly the research can go in directions other than desired. If the research has no direction
there would not be an effective action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is
the stage of the research where data is

Our Great Nation Analysis
As we stand here today of this great nation, we celebrate, not the winning of sides, but celebrate the
unity of our great country. We have been in a storm of chaos, wanting change, fearing that we will
divide once again, but we will stand firm together to fight for peace and equality. For way too long,
have the capital of our great nation taken the rewards of our government while the people suffer the
cost. Washington has thrived, but the people do not get to share in its success. While we celebrate our
nation s great success, there is still little to celebrate as for struggling families of our nation s, but this
all can change starting right here right now because this is your moment, your spotlight, and your
triumphs. What truly matters right

Habitat AA Case Study
A.) In fig 1A, the environmental selection, shows species in pool, where different habitat types
existed. The species composition is determined by the environmental selection. Similar habitats select
for similar species to occupy its environment. In 1A, habitats A and A have the same invasion of
species which are species 1, 2, 3, and 4. The fundamental niche is where species could live and
reproduce itself in the whole range of habitats. Diverse types of species could occupy similar habitat.
In fig. 1D, dispersal limitation, the barrier requires that a species has the similar building blocks to

they cannot thrive in the hosts bodies. The realized niche, is where a habitat where a species actually

When we consider the microbiome in our gut as invasive species, like any other invasive species we
can see that their chance of surviving in our body depends on niche and resources. The environment
conditions such as temperature, pH, and aerobic/anaerobic will determine if a species occupy that

they are able to cause disease are the same as those required for any other species that invades and

Ira Aldridge By Lolita Chakrabarti
Ira Aldridge is not a house hold name in the Theatre committee, but it should be. A native New Yorker
who moved to England when he was in his late teens, Ira achieved immense fame in mid 1800 s
Europe, mesmerizing people of all nationalities with his renditions of Shakespeare. Since his death he
has become rather obscure, although a dramatization of his life, by Lolita Chakrabarti, is making its
way into theatrical seasons across Europe and the USA. Ira Aldridge is a man who undermined the
racial presumptions of his era. Bernth Lindfors calls Aldridge the most visible black man in a white
world in the middle of the nineteenth century ( The Vagabond Years 5). Ira Aldridge paved the way for
other African American Actors through his work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competing theatre companies sent thugs and police to harass the Theater during performances and
hired newspapers to print spoofs of African American dialects. Ira worked backstage and played
several roles at The Grove in his late teens and could often be found outside the theatre after
performances participating in brawls with competing actors and police trying to shut down the
Theater. Historian Bernth Lindforths would say this violence foreshadowed the anti abolitionist riots
of 1834, which devastated black homes, churches, and businesses. Ross speculates that if Ira had
stayed in the US, his acting career would definitely have failed. Ira arrived in London in 1825, eight
years before slavery would be abolished in the British Empire. As Ira toured the British Isles in those
eight years, the practice of black face was being established as a favored sport in the theatre. During
Ira s first few years of touring, he s simply referred to as a gentleman of color . But as he gains
notoriety, he s advertised as the American Tragedian from the African Theater New York City .
Patrons came to the theatre anticipating an African burlesque. One newspaper promotion wrote:
Theatrical dogs, horses, and elephants have passed away; those of monkeys seem to be on the decline,
and now for a more monstrous exhibition than all the rest, we are to be treated with a Black Actor, a
right earnest African Tragedian ( The Early Years 203). Instead,

Rational And Rational Choice Theory
Rational choice theory posits that any individual makes behavioral choices because they logically
consider any potentially criminal situation, weigh the possible benefits versus the possible costs, and
make a decision to act based on whether or not the benefits outweigh the risks. Rational choice theory
differs from other philosophies in that it denies the existence of any kinds of action other than the
purely rational and calculative. All social action, it is argued, can be seen as rationally motivated, as
instrumental action, however much it may appear to be irrational or non rational (Scott, 2000).
Making rational choices means being motivated by personal wants, goals, and needs. It is not possible
for all wants and needs to be met or achieved; therefore, choices are made in order to bring the
greatest satisfaction and happiness to the individual. Individual does not always reference one human
being; rational choice theory is a main idea in economics, sociology, and many other social sciences.
An individual with regard to the theory can be a corporation, group, or other defined entity that
engages in decision making. The limitations of this theory have led researchers to develop many sub
theories. One sub theory of rational choice is routine activity theory, which posits that crime is not an
aberration of human society, but merely a common facet of culture that only requires opportunity. First
developed and published by Marcus Felson and Lawrence E. Cohen in 1979,

Essay on United States Foreign Policy and the War on...
United States Foreign Policy and the War on Terrorism
In very general terms, it could be said that the United States makes foreign policy decisions based on
what we hope are the best interests of its citizens. On the surface, it would appear as if this has been
the case over the past several months, as the U.S. has waged its war against terrorism. If one were to
penetrate this surface, however, they would see that there is much more to this conflict than meets the
eye. Is Operation Enduring Freedom indeed justifiable? Most people would say yes, it is in our best
interests, because our forces are fighting against an injustice, for the purposes of establishing a
peaceful environment and bringing about humanitarian relief, which will ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, this has not been the case in Afghanistan. The United States reacted far too quickly in
declaring the war on terrorism. The Bush administration did not outline clear goals for the war, and in
their haste to fight the cause, and bring justice to the American people, they completely overlooked the
potential impact of their actions on non American citizens.
A major concern regarding the war in Afghanistan is the fact that there may have been more civilian
casualties as a result of bombings than there were in the attacks on the World Trade Center. The
estimates vary widely, but it has been suggested that at least 4000 people have died in Afghanistan
since the bombing campaigns began, although no one can come up with concrete numbers at this
point. Furthermore, this is only one conflict. The same is true regarding the large number of people
who have died in Iraq in the last decade, whether it was due to bombings, or because they suffered as a
result of economic sanctions imposed by the United States. These killings are reprehensible, and, as
Kathryn Sikkink, a political science professor at the University of Minnesota claims, ?military
methods that inevitably lead to significant civilian deaths are inconsistent with a human rights
approach, regardless of the intentions of the planners (SSRC).?

Nature In The Grapes Of Wrath
Man and Nature
Man against nature, nature against man, it is such big part of everyday life, the battling between them.
Man against nature Plays a big role in the book The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. The novel is
about the okies migration and at the root cause of their problem was the dust bowl nature striking back
at people. There have been many instances within the novel of this re occurring theme from rain to the
dust bowl. Throughout the novel, the theme of the conflict between man and nature has been
consistently causing the major events that further the plot along.

For most of man the rain will destroy their homes, it will dampen their spirits as, the rain will make it
near impossible to work in the field. They feared the rain because it meant that winter was coming and
jobs would become scarce. No money would come in and they would all perish from starvation, or
they will die of illness that the cool wet rain will bring. So nature kick started the rain and killed the
people like they had killed her. The rain created natures next strike, flooding. The earth can only take

through the mud to the stream and he set his twig upright on the edge of the swirling water... both men
kept their eyes on the little twig on the water s edge. They saw the water move slowly up around it and
creep up the bank. (437). This shows that the waters are flooding everything soon will be covered in
waters highways and homes people will have to leave or keep on moving. They will have to stay

Toowoomba City is located 125km from Brisbane in Queensland on the Western side of the Great
Dividing Range. It consists of two main creek catchments, east creek and west creek catchments. In
January 2011 there was a main flooding event which caused a large flood event that is described as an
Inland Tsunami . Figure 1 Catchment map of Toowoomba identifying major hydraulic features. Source
[1]
The factors that contributed to the major storm was:
There was an initial rainfall even of 90mm which occurred over 24 hours before which caused the
catchments to be fully saturated. As a result any major rainfall events would be converted directly into
surface water runoff
Most of the catchments depicted in Figure 1 where fully urbanised which caused surfaces in the
catchment to be impervious; that is very little runoff would infiltrate into the ground
There were intense rainfall events that occurred over the Gowrie creek catchment; with an event
greater than a 100 year ARI storm experienced at the rainfall gauges
Due to the large intensities of rainfalls caused both East and West creeks to fill up. Due to both creeks
flowing in the same direction no drainage could occur to Gworiee creek causing inundation shown in

The Spiritual Practice Of The Labyrinth
Since I was a child I was told to read the Bible, pray, and repeat. Eventually, these few spiritual
practices became empty rituals to me for a time. In the duration of this class thus far, I ve had the
chance to relook at my spiritual practices, learn why I should practice them, and then put them into
practice with a right heart. I ve also had the chance to partake in many other types of spiritual
practices. One in particular interested me, so I decided to try it that is, the spiritual practice of the
Labyrinth.
There were many spiritual practices that I had never done before on the list, but the Labyrinth was a
formative practice that I hadn t even heard of. I had no experience with the discipline before the class.
However, I decided to try it because I might not have had the chance to practice it again, unless I first
tried it. Also, the fact of a spiritual practice having a labyrinth involved greatly interested me, and I
wanted to study it. When I found out what the Labyrinth was I wanted to try it even more. A prayer
labyrinth is a labyrinth used to facilitate prayer, meditation, spiritual transformation, and/or global
unity. Walking a prayer labyrinth is seen in 3 stages: Purgation, Illumination, and Union. Purgation
occurs as you first walk into the labyrinth until you reach the center, the goal is to clear the mind from
distractions, and open the heart. Illumination happens at the center, the goal to pray and meditate and
listen to what God has for you. Union,

My Journey Through English 111
My Journey Through English 111 English 111 has made a positive impact on me as a student. I have
learned a lot in English considering the short amount of time I have spent in the class. English has
always been one of my strong points, but I have always looked to find ways to improve my English
skills. During the class I learned several new techniques and skills to improve myself as a student. I
am glad I had a smart professor to help guide me along the way. Attendance is an area I did well on in
this class. I showed up on time and for the most part I was prepared for class. A couple of areas I think
I could have done better on was class participation and procrastinating on my work. In class I think it
would have helped me if I had been more involved and asked the professor more questions.
Procrastination was probably my biggest weakness. I would wait till the last minute to write a paper
and get a decent grade on it, but not an A like I would have liked. I know that if I had wrote my papers
ahead of time and had more time to plan them out I would have gotten better grades on my papers. In
my next English class I will continue to have good attendance and be prepared for class. What I plan
on changing in my next class is my extreme amount procrastination. I plan on getting all of my work
done well before the time it is due. If I can continue my good attendance and stop procrastinating, I
will put myself in a good position to be successful and make an A in my next English

Abstract
The experiments conducted for this lab report focused on water contamination and filtration.
Experiment 1 was effects of groundwater contamination. Oil, vinegar, and laundry detergent were
added to clean water with no means of filtration. The clean water was found to be contaminated. A
filtration system consisting of cheesecloth and 60 ml of soil was created and the contaminated samples
were filtered through it. The soil and cheese cloth did not affectively filter the contaminants.

Beakers 5 8 were set aside for later use. I then recorded by observation of beaker 1 in Table 1 on the
Lab Reporting Form; this included smell, color, etc. 10 mL of vegetable oil was added to beaker 2, 10
mL of vinegar to beaker 3, and 10 mL of liquid laundry detergent to beaker 4. Each beaker was mixed
thoroughly with a wooden stir stick. My observations such as color and smell were annotated in Table
1 on the Lab Reporting Form. Next, I cut the cheesecloth into five different pieces. I took one piece of
cheesecloth and folded it so it was 4 layers thick. I then placed it into the funnel. 60 mL of soil was
measured out using the 100 mL beaker and placed into the cheesecloth lined funnel. The funnel was
then put inside beaker 5. The contents of beaker 1 (water) were poured through the funnel and let filter
for 1 minute into beaker 5. My observations were recorded on Table 1 on the Lab Reporting Form. I
repeated the process of creating a filter of cheesecloth and soil and filtered the contents of beaker 2
(vegetable oil) into beaker 6, beaker 3 (vinegar) to beaker 7, and beaker 4 (detergent) to beaker 8. All
observations were recorded on Table 1. Experiment 2: Water Treatment, used 100 mL potting soil, (2)

The Weather Of Panama City Beach
The weather in Panama City Beach, Florida, is beautiful in June. Though the twelve hour trip down
there seemed very long and boring, the trip was ultimately worth it. There are a lot of interesting
things to do in Panama City Beach, Florida. The first thing that we did when we finally got there, was
to check into the hotel and take our stuff to the room, which was on the first floor facing the beach. It
had three rooms. One had the kitchenette, a couch, and a bed with a TV mounted on the wall across
from it. The second room had two beds and a TV mounted on the opposite wall. In between the two
rooms was the bathroom. After we finished looking around the rooms, we went out to the white sand
beach through the sliding glass doors in the first room to watch the sunset. The colors of the sunset
against the light green water were amazing. The reds, oranges, and yellows seemed more vibrant next
to the color of that water. It made me wonder why people don t just stay on the beach for the rest of
their lives. I knew that I would have happily stayed there forever just to see sunsets like that every
night for the rest of my life. We stayed on the beach until the sun was completely gone and the sky
was dark. After the beach was completely dark and quiet, we headed back to the hotel. The hotel had
many things to do inside. The first thing we did when we got back inside was go to the front desk to
see all the activities that they had at our hotel. We decided that we wanted to do the

Running Argumentative Analysis
When people talk about exercise, there is one main workout that most people have done in their life.
That exercise is running. For some, running isn t just a way to go out and get healthy, running can be a
way for people to escape the stressful lives they live in and go out and explore the world on the
endless trail running has to offer. While most people think this, some have a different opinion on the
topic. Some feel as though running is not healthy for you at all in the long run, and that it can cause
some serious health effects to your body in the long run. However, after getting the facts from both
sides of the argument, anyone will agree that running will benefit your health in the long run
physically and mentally. For those who enjoy running, they say that there is a lot of evidence to

What s more, scientists have shown that running also vastly improves the quality of your emotional
and mental life, and even helps you live longer (Van Allen). Running not only keeps you in shape but
it can keep you from getting serious health problems later in life. Most importantly, it can better
improve the chance of you living longer in life. For many this would be a situation where you wouldn
t even have to think twice about whether or not to start running long distances every day for the rest of
your life. Some people have one goal in life, and that is to live as long as possible however that may
be. Of course there will never be a for sure way to protect you from disease or anything else that can
kill you, but why not try something fun that is good. At the same time it will give you a better chance

The Importance Of Religion In Literature
Religion guides humans to a higher order of existence through the collective organization of beliefs,
cultural identities, and world views. Religion seeks to define the meaning of life and human existence
through historical narratives, symbols, and faith. Since the birth of religions, these have adopted a
central focus of the way people live, their lifestyle choices, and their boundaries. In doing so, religion
has been used as a preeminent theme in works of literature since the ancient world, as the greater part
of first written texts were religious stories. Throughout centuries however, writers have been adapting
religion in literature in many different ways, such as in: Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler,
Dracula by Bram Stoker, and On the Road by Langston Hughes. Religion in these literary works has
played a life changing role in the lives of its characters. In these texts, some characters accept
established religions while others reject it, instead, focusing their time on creating their own. In
Octavia Butler s Parable of the Sower, the stories heroine, Lauren Olamina, daughter of a Baptist
minister during a degenerative and apocalyptic United States. Inside of the walls of her gated
community, religion is presented as the unifying doctrine keeping everyone together in times of
excruciating chaos. However, Lauren is beginning to mature as a young woman and has begun to
question her Christian faith; and as a result, seeks to create her own religion, Earthseed.

What is Tax Investigation
Tax investigation is an inspection of taxpayer s business and / or individual books, records and

The Purpose, The Passion, and The Peace In Herman Hesse s novel, Siddhartha, he reveals One must
find the source within one s own self, one must possess it ( Hesse 5 ) . On his journey to achieve self
enlightenment, Siddhartha struggles to acquire his essential focal point. In several small towns,
gardens, forests, and along a river in India is where Siddhartha goes on a treacherous course and
encounters multiple teachers to whom he learns and obtains knowledge from. In addition to leaving
his parents, he joined a group called The Samanas, where he masters to think, wait, and fast.
Throughout Siddhartha s lifetime, The Samanas, Gotama, and the river were colossal influences that
paved the way for his achieving of self enlightenment. To begin Siddhartha s journey, he unites
himself among the group known as the Samanas where he had to sacrifice what he was for what he
will become. During his three years with the Samanas, his goal was to become empty of thirst, desire,
dreams, pleasure, and sorrow to let Self die ( 11 ). As Siddhartha practiced self denial and meditation,

river how it enchanted him, how grateful he was to it! In his heart, he heard the newly awakened voice

Siddhartha learned I reviewed my life and it was also a river, Siddhartha the boy, Siddhartha the
mature man and Siddhartha the old man, were only separated by shadows, not through reality ( 87 ). In
my opinion, he came to see that life is about the journey simply living in the moment because life will

In his video, How I Fell in Love with a Fish, Dan Barber explains what he found when he travelled to
Spain to get an intimate understanding of exactly why this fish farm is still in business and what it is
that makes their fish taste so good.
Dan explains that the majority of what his trip to the fish farm taught him revolved around
relationships. He learned that in order to become a prosperous business the farm first had to establish a
thriving network of relationships between all of its inhabitants.
One of the boldest statements made in the video pertains to the fact that this fish farm does not feed
any of its fish at all there is no secret fish food formula or anything of the like. Unlike other farms that

Urbanization And Commercialization On Literature
The Effects of Urbanization and Commercialization on Literature
Nature is inescapable. It surrounds humanity and sneaks its way into daily life. Society draws on
experiences with the environment to produce art, theater, and literature. As Tim Ingold, a professor of
Social Anthropology, explains, ... nature furnishes the substance, culture the form. The imaginary
worlds of stories are created from sensations gained from the environment, and culture is a medium
that guides the writer in expressing his or her tale. Tales of Moonlight and Rain (1776) by Ueda
Akinari was written during a time of pilgrimages, uprisings, and intellectual pursuits. Though set in
the past, the book shows the influences of his environment within his nine ghost stories. The
continued urbanization and commercialization of society influenced the literature produced in the
early modern period, as well as views on the supernatural, by expanding on the themes of travel,
loyalty, and philosophy as shown in Akinari s Tales of Moonlight and Rain.
As Japan became more urbanized and roads improved, many commoners became enthralled by the
opportunity to explore the world around them. However, since simply traveling to see the world was
prohibited by the shogunate, many explored the world through pilgrimages. These travelers wrote
dairies and poetry that described the sights and sounds they experience, expanding the culture of travel
through their literature. According to Anthony H. Chamber, the translator of

My Mask Research Paper
My mask features materials such as white tissue paper, pearl balls, silver glitter, sparkly paper, silver
flowers and silver pen. These materials were used on my mask to give it a bright and pure white look.
Masks were worn at masquerade balls for the purpose of hiding ones true identity, wearing a mask like
this would give the illusion that the wearer was perfect, or angelic. Except, for around the eyes where I
also used a black marker and red glitter glue for the pattern on there. Generally the only recognisable
feature on someones face while wearing a mask, are the eyes. Which happens to be the darkest part of
the mask. Therefor, the mask is saying that beneath this pure and plain mask, is a flawed person, a real
person.

Christopher Innes The Historical Avant-Garde
The Historical Avant Garde expressed new ways of art and reformed the traditional sense of art.
Christopher Innes used three words that described the Avant Garde: populism, primitivism, and
philosophy. These components can be seen in the figures 1 3 that help define some known movements
of the Avant Garde. The movements that are particularly focused in these figures is Dada,
Expressionism, and Surrealism. Each image displays an aesthetic characteristic of the Avant Garde, as
well as defining what the movements stood for. In addition, the visual imagery of these figures
illustrates a new method of art, in attempt to create a better art. To begin, the Avant Garde opposed the
bourgeoisie theatre, and many of the elements used was to contrast ... Show more content on

Primitivism held a contrast to western forms, and one of the non western forms that was seen was
spirituality. Not only this but in Murder: The Women s Hope, the characters are dressed in savage
appearance, which is not usually the typical attire in a traditional bourgeoisie play (Kokoschka 220).
This can also be seen in Figure 3, and it would explain why the women s breasts are exposed and why
the man is not wearing a shirt as well. This perspective is one of the elements of the Avant Garde, as it
is something considered new as well as going against the anti establishment of the traditional theatre.
Furthermore, the Avant Garde opposed mainstream theatre, and many of the Avant Garde movements
went against theatre. This was done by having using more interaction with their audience, creating
cultural changes, and holding more physical

Jean Piaget s Theory of Development
Jean Piaget s theory is basically cognitive and developmental and most of his studies were based on
his three children, he called this the clinical method. This method was used in interviews with patients
by asking them questions and observing their behaviour. Whilst using this method he learnt that
children under 7 years use different principles to base their judgments on compared to older children.
Piaget would use the interview responses for following questions he could ask. The method at first did
not receive much support because it was considered too subjective by other theorists. Today however,
the theory is considered the most comprehensive on intelligential development. One of Piaget s main
concepts was the Schema . Piaget define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has also been noted that today substantial bodies of experiments on sound literature have been
formed. The lack of clarity in the development of key concepts and the absence of defined
experimental tests of these key concepts has also been criticized as a similar analysis of other key
concepts could be given, this relates to Piaget s concept of stages which is central to most of his work
and is now important in developmental psycholinguistics. we shall distinguish three stages
corresponding to the usual three levels. During stage 1, there are no seriations in the strict sense. The
child s constructions are intermediate between classification and seriation. During stage 2 there is a
seriation but only according to one of the criteria, or else the child switches from one criterion to the
other...Finally during stage three (starting 7 8 years) the child reaches a multiplicative arrangement
based on the twofold seriation of the set of elements. (Piaget,J, B,Inhelder 1969). This quote show
little indication that the matters in which Piaget discusses could be different or that a child s
development could be incremental and continuous, some theorists have also suggested that his theory
of stages could be an artificial device which has no scientific content, and so they question whether a
child grows and develops in stages or

Thus Spoke Zarathustra Essay
The prophet Zarathustra descended from the mountains after ten years of isolation. He has descended
to teach the masses about the overman, and the belief system that accompanies him. Nietzsche,
through Zarathustra, is offering a new value system to replace Christianity. This value system can be
referred to as Zarathustraism . A vital part to embracing this value system is the deconstruction of
Christianity. Man has redefined Christianity to better suit personal desire, and it has begun to fail as a
result. Zarathustraism will teach Man to live in the light of the Overman, free of the negativity
Christianity caused.
Zarathustra has learnt the nature of God. In the time he spent in solitude, the prophet has acquired the

Zarathustra and his company arrive on an island, where Zarathustra encounters a fire dog. (Z II xviii)
On the topic of churches, Zarathustra accuses the fire dog: you surely know your own species best! (Z
II xviii) Fire dogs are symbolic for Christian churches, which are bloated and self centered.
Zarathustraism clearly despises the church for the actions resulted in God s death. The church
demands obedience from its followers, and thus led them astray.
It becomes apparent quickly that Zarathustra has love for Man. Despite this love, he still feels beneath
them. In a town, Zarathustra notices that new, man made structures had become smaller. I pass
through this people and keep my eyes open; they have become smaller, and ever become smaller: the
reason thereof is their doctrine of happiness and virtue (Z III v.ii). Those living in this town do not live
the way Zarathustra has told them to; as a result, Zarathustra literally feels larger than them. Because
he lives in the light of the overman, Zarathustra believes that he is more prominent than a normal
Man. (Z III v.i). Zarathustra s heightened opinion of himself is formed from his dedication to the
overman, as well as his dismissal of God. His relinquishment of God allows him to come closer to the
overman than those who still have faith in Christianity. I am Zarathustra the godless: where do I find
my equal? And all

Review Of The Handmaid s Tale
Comparing a book to the movie that is a product of that book is always a difficult thing, but with The
Handmaid s Tale the novel and movie were quite similar. Set in the near future, in a totalitarian society
post overthrowing of the United States government, The Handmaid s Tale explores the idea that
people will endure oppression willingly as long as they receive some slight amount of power or
freedom in return. This can be seen prominently in both the film and novel. However, although the
overall idea was the same, the way that it was perceived through the movie is drastically different than
through the text version. In the novel there is a eminent absence of real names, and Handmaids are
instead referred to by nicknames that signify the Commanders they serve. They reveal little to nothing
about the Handmaids, except for the absence of their personal identities. Equivalently, although the
Aunts have individual, feminine alias, they aren t their birth names either. Significantly, it s noticed in
the novel that we were never given the name of Offred, nor her child. This differs from the movie
greatly where the characters interact with each other considerably more than depicted in the paperback
most likely to make the film more entertaining to watch, but greatly taking away from a main
component of Atwood s story. To make what I believe is less confusing for viewers, characters were
appointed names in the flick. For example, the protagonist and narrator of

  • 2. The Effects Of Swedish Soil On The World On Swedish soil, in September of 2014, a miracle happened. The world witnessed the first ever baby to be born from a woman s transplanted womb. A healthy baby boy, to be exact. Scientists have marveled over this new advancement simply because of the fact that they have been trying to do just this for years without success. Trial after trial has been made over the years, but the professors and scientists of the University of Gothenburg (where the baby was born) weren t giving up. And good thing they didn t, because their work has certainly paid off. This is a huge landmark for medical science all over the world, as there is now a way for women who have uterus problems (for one reason or another) to have children. For hundreds of years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of now, there are three options put forth to these women: adoption or gestational surrogacy. Uterus transplantation (hereafter UTx ) creates a third option: to conceive and gestate a pregnancy, thereby fulfilling what some women describe as a desire not just for my own child but for my own pregnancy . (Catsanos, Ruby, Wendy Rogers, and Mianna Lotz.) While adoption and surrogacy are both very viable options, uterus transplantation has become quite popular, even though the likelihood of actually conceiving and birthing a child has been seemingly impossible until now. The procedure to remove a uterus is called a hysterectomy. To prove just how popular these have become, an estimated total of 9 million woman of age to reproduce have had a hysterectomy, around 5,000 every year in the United States alone. These uterine transplants are performed by first surgically removing the woman s uterus (if she has one) in a hysterectomy procedure, and then transplanting the healthy, donated uterus into its place. Usually, in the first surgery to remove the uterus, the fallopian tubes and ovaries will both be removed as well. To even be considered as a potential candidate for this surgery, the woman needs to be of childbearing age, which in most cases, the women are in their 30s. However, this specific transplant is only designed to be a temporary fix. The original idea for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The 400 Blows Directed By Francois Truffaut Background: This film is considered a drama film and it came out in 1959 directed by Francois Truffaut. Francois Truffaut was a successful director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and film critic and he also was one of the founder of the French New Wave. The French New Wave was a movement against the traditional ways that French Cinema had followed, most French cinema was more like literature. The 400 Blows was written by Francois Truffaut and Marcel Moussy and is looked at as one of the best French films in cinematic history. This film uncovers the injustices of the treatment of juvenile offenders in France during that time. It was also written from inspiration from Truffaut s own life. Screening Notes: Throughout this whole movie, there were many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, one part that I found incredible was the final scene and the cinematography involved in order to make is as good as it was. This is when Antoine had run away and is on the beach looking at the water. He had always wanted to go to the sea and this was his first time. The camera angle that zoomed into his face highlights the dramatic moment. It was almost as if Antoine was looking directly at us thorough the camera. I decided to do some research on this final scene and figured out that this scene was monumental for the movie, I could understand why. The moment being captured is looked at as Antoine being between land and sea but really being in between his past and future. This film consisted of many interesting camera angles used to provide the audience with the best views to keep up with Antoine. Another scene that used a great angle was when ... • 4. Evaluation Of The Psychiatric Emergency Room Anna s stay The average stay in my unit, the psychiatric emergency room, is typically anywhere from four hours to twenty four hours. One patient recently broke the record with her stay being close to two weeks. This was a major concern for our unit as placement for her was difficult to find and staff had never dealt with a stay this long in the past. This particular patient s story was heart breaking. The patient (I will call her Anna) was a foster child who had been bounced around from home to home. Her most recent foster family was an elderly couple who was well to do and took care of the patient in their 1.2 million dollar home. Unfortunately, this child had some major behavioral issues and oppositional defiant disorder as a result of her difficult upbringing. Therefore, her foster family finally had enough and dropped the child off to our unit. She was a very challenging patient and her patience was being tested as a result of her long stay as well as the nursing staff s patience. A typical day working with this patient usually included the patient ending up in restraints. Restraints were a daily occurrence for her. She spent the majority of her stay in the secure core. The secure core is an area in the psychiatric emergency room that includes three rooms and a small nursing station. The secure core is reserved for patients that pose a risk for themselves or for patients that are psychotic and have lost touch with reality. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Psychological Impact Of Bullying In order to solve a problem in a school or elsewhere you need a plan, additionally, you need to find out the cause or causes of the problem before constructing your plan and this is where research comes in. Research conducted to solve issues or problems in schools or educational systems are termed Action Research. After sitting and discussing issues and problems in our education system we decided to tackle the issue of the psychological impact of bullying. The purpose of our action research was to attempt to improve students academic performance by trying to lessen or eliminate the occurrences of bullying at J.P Eustace Secondary School. The J.P Eustace Secondary School is labelled by the Vincentian public as being an unruly school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We decided to use both questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were constructed at Form Four vocabulary level and lower to ensure that the respondents would be able to completely understand them. Also, we used the research questions to guide the construction of the questionnaires. Before distributing the data collection tools we spoke to the staff to determine which class bullying cases were reported most often they said Form Four. We then did a survey in the form to find out who has been bullied before to do stratified sampling. This was done this way because it would not have been efficient and effective to give questionnaires to students who are not being bullied. To triangulate the information that we were about to collect we decided to use interviews with the questionnaires. This was to ensure that the information that was collected from the questionnaires were similar to what was collected in the interview. A sample of the students who completed the questionnaires were later interviewed. I would say that this part of the research mentioned is the most important as if it is not done correctly the research can go in directions other than desired. If the research has no direction there would not be an effective action plan to help solve the problems or resolve the issue. Also, this is the stage of the research where data is ... We have been in a storm of chaos, wanting change, fearing that we will divide once again, but we will stand firm together to fight for peace and equality. For way too long, have the capital of our great nation taken the rewards of our government while the people suffer the cost. Washington has thrived, but the people do not get to share in its success. The species composition is determined by the environmental selection. Similar habitats select for similar species to occupy its environment. • 8. Ira Aldridge By Lolita Chakrabarti Ira Aldridge is not a house hold name in the Theatre committee, but it should be. A native New Yorker who moved to England when he was in his late teens, Ira achieved immense fame in mid 1800 s Europe, mesmerizing people of all nationalities with his renditions of Shakespeare. Since his death he has become rather obscure, although a dramatization of his life, by Lolita Chakrabarti, is making its way into theatrical seasons across Europe and the USA. Ira Aldridge is a man who undermined the racial presumptions of his era. Bernth Lindfors calls Aldridge the most visible black man in a white world in the middle of the nineteenth century ( The Vagabond Years 5). Ira Aldridge paved the way for other African American Actors through his work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competing theatre companies sent thugs and police to harass the Theater during performances and hired newspapers to print spoofs of African American dialects. Ira worked backstage and played several roles at The Grove in his late teens and could often be found outside the theatre after performances participating in brawls with competing actors and police trying to shut down the Theater. Historian Bernth Lindforths would say this violence foreshadowed the anti abolitionist riots of 1834, which devastated black homes, churches, and businesses. Ross speculates that if Ira had stayed in the US, his acting career would definitely have failed. Ira arrived in London in 1825, eight years before slavery would be abolished in the British Empire. As Ira toured the British Isles in those eight years, the practice of black face was being established as a favored sport in the theatre. During Ira s first few years of touring, he s simply referred to as a gentleman of color . But as he gains notoriety, he s advertised as the American Tragedian from the African Theater New York City . Patrons came to the theatre anticipating an African burlesque. One newspaper promotion wrote: Theatrical dogs, horses, and elephants have passed away; those of monkeys seem to be on the decline, and now for a more monstrous exhibition than all the rest, we are to be treated with a Black Actor, a right earnest African Tragedian ( The Early Years 203). • 9. Rational And Rational Choice Theory Rational choice theory posits that any individual makes behavioral choices because they logically consider any potentially criminal situation, weigh the possible benefits versus the possible costs, and make a decision to act based on whether or not the benefits outweigh the risks. Rational choice theory differs from other philosophies in that it denies the existence of any kinds of action other than the purely rational and calculative. All social action, it is argued, can be seen as rationally motivated, as instrumental action, however much it may appear to be irrational or non rational (Scott, 2000). Making rational choices means being motivated by personal wants, goals, and needs. It is not possible for all wants and needs to be met or achieved; therefore, choices are made in order to bring the greatest satisfaction and happiness to the individual. Individual does not always reference one human being; rational choice theory is a main idea in economics, sociology, and many other social sciences. An individual with regard to the theory can be a corporation, group, or other defined entity that engages in decision making. The limitations of this theory have led researchers to develop many sub theories. One sub theory of rational choice is routine activity theory, which posits that crime is not an aberration of human society, but merely a common facet of culture that only requires opportunity. United States Foreign Policy and the War on Terrorism In very general terms, it could be said that the United States makes foreign policy decisions based on what we hope are the best interests of its citizens. On the surface, it would appear as if this has been the case over the past several months, as the U.S. has waged its war against terrorism. If one were to penetrate this surface, however, they would see that there is much more to this conflict than meets the eye. Is Operation Enduring Freedom indeed justifiable? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, this has not been the case in Afghanistan. The United States reacted far too quickly in declaring the war on terrorism. The Bush administration did not outline clear goals for the war, and in their haste to fight the cause, and bring justice to the American people, they completely overlooked the potential impact of their actions on non American citizens. A major concern regarding the war in Afghanistan is the fact that there may have been more civilian casualties as a result of bombings than there were in the attacks on the World Trade Center. The estimates vary widely, but it has been suggested that at least 4000 people have died in Afghanistan since the bombing campaigns began, although no one can come up with concrete numbers at this point. Furthermore, this is only one conflict. The same is true regarding the large number of people who have died in Iraq in the last decade, whether it was due to bombings, or because they suffered as a result of economic sanctions imposed by the United States. These killings are reprehensible, and, as Kathryn Sikkink, a political science professor at the University of Minnesota claims, ?military methods that inevitably lead to significant civilian deaths are inconsistent with a human rights approach, regardless of the intentions of the planners (SSRC).? In the duration of this class thus far, I ve had the chance to relook at my spiritual practices, learn why I should practice them, and then put them into practice with a right heart. I ve also had the chance to partake in many other types of spiritual practices. One in particular interested me, so I decided to try it that is, the spiritual practice of the Labyrinth. There were many spiritual practices that I had never done before on the list, but the Labyrinth was a formative practice that I hadn t even heard of. I had no experience with the discipline before the class. However, I decided to try it because I might not have had the chance to practice it again, unless I first tried it. Also, the fact of a spiritual practice having a labyrinth involved greatly interested me, and I wanted to study it. When I found out what the Labyrinth was I wanted to try it even more. Walking a prayer labyrinth is seen in 3 stages: Purgation, Illumination, and Union. I have learned a lot in English considering the short amount of time I have spent in the class. English has always been one of my strong points, but I have always looked to find ways to improve my English skills. During the class I learned several new techniques and skills to improve myself as a student. I am glad I had a smart professor to help guide me along the way. Attendance is an area I did well on in this class. I showed up on time and for the most part I was prepared for class. A couple of areas I think I could have done better on was class participation and procrastinating on my work. In class I think it would have helped me if I had been more involved and asked the professor more questions. Procrastination was probably my biggest weakness. I would wait till the last minute to write a paper and get a decent grade on it, but not an A like I would have liked. I know that if I had wrote my papers ahead of time and had more time to plan them out I would have gotten better grades on my papers. In my next English class I will continue to have good attendance and be prepared for class. What I plan on changing in my next class is my extreme amount procrastination. I plan on getting all of my work done well before the time it is due. • 17. The Weather Of Panama City Beach The weather in Panama City Beach, Florida, is beautiful in June. Though the twelve hour trip down there seemed very long and boring, the trip was ultimately worth it. There are a lot of interesting things to do in Panama City Beach, Florida. The first thing that we did when we finally got there, was to check into the hotel and take our stuff to the room, which was on the first floor facing the beach. It had three rooms. One had the kitchenette, a couch, and a bed with a TV mounted on the wall across from it. The second room had two beds and a TV mounted on the opposite wall. In between the two rooms was the bathroom. After we finished looking around the rooms, we went out to the white sand beach through the sliding glass doors in the first room to watch the sunset. The colors of the sunset against the light green water were amazing. The reds, oranges, and yellows seemed more vibrant next to the color of that water. It made me wonder why people don t just stay on the beach for the rest of their lives. I knew that I would have happily stayed there forever just to see sunsets like that every night for the rest of my life. We stayed on the beach until the sun was completely gone and the sky was dark. After the beach was completely dark and quiet, we headed back to the hotel. The hotel had many things to do inside. The first thing we did when we got back inside was go to the front desk to see all the activities that they had at our hotel. We decided that we wanted to do the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Religion seeks to define the meaning of life and human existence through historical narratives, symbols, and faith. Since the birth of religions, these have adopted a central focus of the way people live, their lifestyle choices, and their boundaries. In doing so, religion has been used as a preeminent theme in works of literature since the ancient world, as the greater part of first written texts were religious stories. Throughout centuries however, writers have been adapting religion in literature in many different ways, such as in: Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Dracula by Bram Stoker, and On the Road by Langston Hughes. Religion in these literary works has played a life changing role in the lives of its characters. In these texts, some characters accept established religions while others reject it, instead, focusing their time on creating their own. • 26. Urbanization And Commercialization On Literature The Effects of Urbanization and Commercialization on Literature Nature is inescapable. It surrounds humanity and sneaks its way into daily life. Society draws on experiences with the environment to produce art, theater, and literature. As Tim Ingold, a professor of Social Anthropology, explains, ... nature furnishes the substance, culture the form. The imaginary worlds of stories are created from sensations gained from the environment, and culture is a medium that guides the writer in expressing his or her tale. Tales of Moonlight and Rain (1776) by Ueda Akinari was written during a time of pilgrimages, uprisings, and intellectual pursuits. Though set in the past, the book shows the influences of his environment within his nine ghost stories. The continued urbanization and commercialization of society influenced the literature produced in the early modern period, as well as views on the supernatural, by expanding on the themes of travel, loyalty, and philosophy as shown in Akinari s Tales of Moonlight and Rain. As Japan became more urbanized and roads improved, many commoners became enthralled by the opportunity to explore the world around them. However, since simply traveling to see the world was prohibited by the shogunate, many explored the world through pilgrimages. These travelers wrote dairies and poetry that described the sights and sounds they experience, expanding the culture of travel through their literature. According to Anthony H. Christopher Innes used three words that described the Avant Garde: populism, primitivism, and philosophy. These components can be seen in the figures 1 3 that help define some known movements of the Avant Garde. The movements that are particularly focused in these figures is Dada, Expressionism, and Surrealism. Each image displays an aesthetic characteristic of the Avant Garde, as well as defining what the movements stood for. This can also be seen in Figure 3, and it would explain why the women s breasts are exposed and why the man is not wearing a shirt as well. This method was used in interviews with patients by asking them questions and observing their behaviour. Whilst using this method he learnt that children under 7 years use different principles to base their judgments on compared to older children. Piaget would use the interview responses for following questions he could ask. The method at first did not receive much support because it was considered too subjective by other theorists. Today however, the theory is considered the most comprehensive on intelligential development. One of Piaget s main concepts was the Schema . Piaget define ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lack of clarity in the development of key concepts and the absence of defined experimental tests of these key concepts has also been criticized as a similar analysis of other key concepts could be given, this relates to Piaget s concept of stages which is central to most of his work and is now important in developmental psycholinguistics. we shall distinguish three stages corresponding to the usual three levels. During stage 1, there are no seriations in the strict sense. The child s constructions are intermediate between classification and seriation. During stage 2 there is a seriation but only according to one of the criteria, or else the child switches from one criterion to the other...Finally during stage three (starting 7 8 years) the child reaches a multiplicative arrangement based on the twofold seriation of the set of elements. He has descended to teach the masses about the overman, and the belief system that accompanies him. Nietzsche, through Zarathustra, is offering a new value system to replace Christianity. This value system can be referred to as Zarathustraism . A vital part to embracing this value system is the deconstruction of Christianity. Man has redefined Christianity to better suit personal desire, and it has begun to fail as a result. Zarathustra and his company arrive on an island, where Zarathustra encounters a fire dog. (Z II xviii) On the topic of churches, Zarathustra accuses the fire dog: you surely know your own species best! (Z II xviii) Fire dogs are symbolic for Christian churches, which are bloated and self centered. Zarathustraism clearly despises the church for the actions resulted in God s death. The church demands obedience from its followers, and thus led them astray. It becomes apparent quickly that Zarathustra has love for Man. Despite this love, he still feels beneath them. In a town, Zarathustra notices that new, man made structures had become smaller. I pass through this people and keep my eyes open; they have become smaller, and ever become smaller: the reason thereof is their doctrine of happiness and virtue (Z III v.ii). Those living in this town do not live the way Zarathustra has told them to; as a result, Zarathustra literally feels larger than them. Because he lives in the light of the overman, Zarathustra believes that he is more prominent than a normal Man. (Z III v.i). Zarathustra s heightened opinion of himself is formed from his dedication to the overman, as well as his dismissal of God. His relinquishment of God allows him to come closer to the overman than those who still have faith in Christianity. I am Zarathustra the godless: where do I find my equal? And all ... • 33. Review Of The Handmaid s Tale Comparing a book to the movie that is a product of that book is always a difficult thing, but with The Handmaid s Tale the novel and movie were quite similar. Set in the near future, in a totalitarian society post overthrowing of the United States government, The Handmaid s Tale explores the idea that people will endure oppression willingly as long as they receive some slight amount of power or freedom in return. This can be seen prominently in both the film and novel. However, although the overall idea was the same, the way that it was perceived through the movie is drastically different than through the text version. In the novel there is a eminent absence of real names, and Handmaids are instead referred to by nicknames that signify the Commanders they serve. They reveal little to nothing about the Handmaids, except for the absence of their personal identities. Equivalently, although the Aunts have individual, feminine alias, they aren t their birth names either. Significantly, it s noticed in the novel that we were never given the name of Offred, nor her child. This differs from the movie greatly where the characters interact with each other considerably more than depicted in the paperback most likely to make the film more entertaining to watch, but greatly taking away from a main component of Atwood s story. To make what I believe is less confusing for viewers, characters were appointed names in the flick. For example, the protagonist and narrator of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
