Changes in Algerian Foreign Policy Under Bouteflika s...
When Bouteflika became President in 1999, there were no indications that the Algerian foreign
policy would undergo any change. Alexis Arieff s assumption that: The legacy of Algeria s anti
colonial struggle contributes to Algerian leaders desire to prevent direct foreign intervention, their
residual scepticism of French intentions, and Algeria s positions on regional affairs, including a non
interventionist stance (1) was an anticipation that no far reaching variations in the Algerian foreign
policycould be expected. More than that, being one of the chief architects of Algeria s nationalist
foreign policyof the 1960s and 1970s, Bouteflika s known attitude to foreign policy suggested
continuity rather than any radical break with the recent past. Similarly, the prevailing political
situation in Algeria suggested that there was almost no prospect that the tensions in Algerian
Western relations would diminish in the foreseeable future.
However, if one considers Algeria s domestic imperatives, geostrategic considerations, the fast
changing regional and international order, and the country s foreign policy outlook, then one
logically realises that the prevailing geopolitical context in Algeria, starting from the 1990s,
necessitated a new foreign policy paradigm; one that adapts to the changing realities without
necessarily compromising the doctrines, principles and practices that drove the foreign policy of
the government since independence in 1962 (Boukhars).

Apollo 17 Research Paper
Apollo 17 was a very interesting lunar mission, and the goal of the mission was to conduct a
geological survey of the moon. The mission also had several other purposes such as conducting
scientific experiments. The reason why it landed in the Taurus littrow highlands is because it was a
place on the moonthat had not yet been explored yet. Scientists were hoping to get some interesting
new rock samples. The mission took place on December 7, 1972.
There is a lot of history behind the apollo 17 technology. It all started with sputnik the first
satellite to go up to space. Since then the technology has evolved considerably to the point where
it can eject certain layers of the rocket, and also go all the way to the moon. In terms of cost it
cost roughly 220 milion dollars which in 1972 money is a lot more today. Also countless man
hours were put into the space program in general, and apollo 17 is no different. ... Show more

PTSD and its Affects on the Human Body
PTSD and its Affects on the Human Body
My girlfriend s brother, Mary served in the Marines for four years. In those four years, he made
three combat tours and four other small deployments. During his first trip to Iraq, he was severely
injured in a land mine accident. He was the only one out of the other three soldiers in the tank that
survived. The accident left him with a severe brain injury and partly blind in his left eye. Mary
was in an Iraqi hospital for about two weeks. He then decided to continue with his duty of being
of Marine. This accident, along with losing close friends, and seeing others die, has left him
traumatized. Although, his PTSD is not as severe as other solders, it still affects him in his day to
day activities.
PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. According to a medical dictionary, PTSD is a
debilitating psychological condition triggered by a major traumatic, such as war, death of a loved
one, a natural disaster, or rape . It is triggered by upsetting memories or thoughts of the incident. For
example; Veterans returning home from a war often have PTSD.
The cause of PTSD is unknown. The factors involved are psychological, genetic, physical, and
social. Post traumatic stress disorder changes the body s response to stress. It affects the stress
hormones and chemicals that carry information between the nerves. It is not known why traumatic
events cause PTSD in some people and not others. But studies have shown that having a

Musical Exoticism In Britten s Death In Venice
Music 15: Paper #2 In the late nineteenth century, France forged a new path in music and ushered
in the practice of musical exoticism. Pieces, such as operas, began to be characterized by their use
of exotic elements including: music, makeup, clothing and props. Ralph P. Locke in, Musical
Exoticism: Images and Reflections, expanded upon this notion stating that the purpose of musical
exoticism was to evoke a place that is perceived as different from one s home (Locke, p.47).
Elaborating from this definition a spectrum of musical exoticism was contrived; with pure
exoticism, intended to other the exotic elements, and transcultural composing, intended to provide a
hybrid of musical styles, representing the two extremes on opposing ends (Locke, p.44, 228) .
Benjamin Britten in his opera, Death in Venice, uses exotic elements Gamelanmusic in a
nontraditional sense that does not adhere stringently to the conditions of pure exoticism or
transcultural composing. Some pieces, such as Britten s Death in Venice, blur the lines of
distinction between each end of the musical exoticism spectrum and are open to subjective
interpretation by the listener. Thus, through analyzing the use of exotic elements and their
intended purpose in Britten s Death in Venice, it is my opinion that the piece falls more in
accordance with pure exoticism rather than transcultural composing, due to Britten s use of the
exotic elements to effectively other the homosexual attraction of opera s main character. Musical
exoticism is the use of non western elements in western music for the purpose of defining and
representing exotic elements or othering, that is to label a group or place as different from one s
own (Locke, p.45). Musical exoticism is a diverse genre, and pieces can adopt a variety of forms.
Therefore, musical exoticism is regarded as a spectrum rather than definitive categorization. On one
end of the spectrum is pure exoticism and on the other is transcultural composing. Pure exoticism is
used to represent an exotic subject through the use of othering that is to present a people, place or
group in contrast to the audience s home so that the audience perceives the exotic element as
different from themselves

touching base via train at high twelve. Mill operator s posse his more youthful sibling Ben (Sheb

who was Miller s significant other, then Kane s, and now Pell s, to caution her of Miller s fast

Judge Percy Mettrick (Otto Kruger), who sentenced Miller, is leaving too, and urges Kane to do

Will recovers his identification and scours the town for help, with little achievement. The marshal

The Impact Of Virtual Communities And Social Media On The...
Although virtual communities and social media primarily exist in the virtual world, they have
made an impact on the physical world just as much as the virtual one. The Internet is changing
the way people work, relax, interact ... it is changing the way they live their day to day lives.
More and more people are beginning to replace face to face interactions with online interactions
due to the easy interaction offered by online platforms. These new found virtual communities are
new ways of interaction that have been made possible by the Internet. Social media and virtual
communities have become to be part of every day life, and are with this, beginning to replace
the interactions taking place in physical spaces. This idea is presented by Rheingold s A Slice of
Life , in which he presents the first, second, and third places to describe the essential social
surroundings in people s life and their community. The first is the social environment of one s
home, and those that one lives with, which is the most private and personal space one has. The
second is the office, or where one works, which has a presumed order and day to day routine. The
third place is the place people gather for conviviality, which includes environments such as cafes
and parks, and are of vast importance due to them allowing for interactions holding society together
and establishing feelings of a sense of place. These third places are shifting to the virtual world, due
to the similarities found between the

Stanford Business School professor, David Montgomery and his co author Marvin Lieberman
first popularized the concept of First Mover Advantage in a 1988 paper. This concept became
the sole reason for out of control expenditure by start ups in order to attain a monopoly like
status. But there was just one problem This concept was simply not true. Ironically, 10 years
later, the authors of the paper backed off their claims but by then every other firm was using this
phrase in justification of their reckless Get big fast strategy. In their paper Pioneer advantage:
Marketing logic or marketing legend? Peter N. Golder and Gerard J. Tellis better explained the
fate of Early movers entering new markets. Their research showed that Early Movers typically had
a 47% failure rate. What s worse was that their studies showed that the survivors had a lower market
share than found in other studies. Furthermore, their research showed that long term success was
almost guaranteed to the second, third, fourth or even tenth entrant with a success rate of ~92%

The Pleasures Of Antiquity By Jonathan Scott Summary
About Grand Tour In the document The Pleasures of Antiquity by Jonathan Scott, the author talks
about Englishmen during period of Grand Tour. He goes in more dept about Charles Townley,
who was one of the representative of the Grand Tour era and devoted to antique art works.
Jonathan Scott explains the details about what Charles Townley bought and whom he bought them
from, stories about relationships between the sellers and Townley, and what he did to his
collection of art works. Then he talks broadly about Grand Tour of upper class Englishmen after
Townley s death and Napoleon conquering Rome. After death of Townley and conquering of
Napoleon of Rome, many Englishmen collected Antique art works without caring about the details

The author states about how Townley had certain standards like he did not desire the statues made
of marbles to be grind to make the statues look smooth or damaged (Scott 200). Unlike Townley,
those Englishmen, who were connoisseurs during Napoleonic era, bought any art works that were
called or claimed antique even if the prices were ridiculously high. Moreover, Townley made
museum like homes to share his interest of antique arts with other citizens and fellow enlightened
men. Also, he carefully planned and placed art works/statues in his house to make them look more
aesthetically pleasing and balanced. On the other hand, British connoisseurs did not care about the
placement of the statues, but only cared to have the statues to show that they are upper class or
connoisseurs who collect valuable antique art works (Scott 209). Author expresses the contrasts of
the collecting antique between Townley and his fellow friends to the British connoisseurs, after

Compare And Contrast The Shang And Shang Dynasty
The Chinese civilization was established along the Huang He river, and from there they expanded
on the east coast of present day China in each dynasty. The first dynasty was the Xia dynasty
which made the Chinese civilization in two thousand seventy b.c. the dynasty was led by Yu the
great, but he gave his power to his son Qi, which created the dynastic rule, the ruling family passes
power down through the family. The Shang dynasty followed the Xia dynastyby ruling from one
thousand sixty six b.c. to one thousand twenty two b.c. in the corner of northern China. The capital
city of the Shang dynasty was Anyang which was located above the Huang He river. The third
dynasty was the Zhou dynastywhich started in one thousand twenty two b.c. after the king of
Shang was overthrown after losing his right to rule by becoming corrupt. The Zhou dynasty
claimed the largest part of land than the other dynasties. The Social part of ancient China was
the hierarchy. Hierarchy is the divisions of different people based on what they do or how much
money they made, the social standing of your family could never change no matter what
happened because the hierarchy meant that their is only a set of jobs that you could do if you
were born to that family. The type of hierarchy that China followed was Feudalism in which the
people got little money while the nobles and emperors got a lot of money. The hierarchy in order

John Adams Contributions
John Adams John Adams did not really play a big role like some of the others in the making of
America. His wife was a great deal in the making of America. Even if John knew he was not the
best he never let it bring him down. Adams was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in October of
1735, even though they weren t sure the actual date (Diggins, 17). His father was a farmer, he
persuaded him to go to Harvard college, after that he was persuaded to make a career in the
congregational ministry (Ref. history). John was the first american to become a minister in
England (Resch, 3). He also was an educated lawyer, and early became identified with the patriot
(US government). In 1774 his career in law ended, the colonist and developing nations began
demanding all of his talents (Charles akers). When the british soldiers started the Boston Massacre
against the colonies Adams acted as a lawyer for the soldiers (works of J.A, 15). Adams was a
character of controversy leading to the American Revolutionfrom 1775 to 1783 (charles Akers). He
helped create the navy for the country, and had large influences on the congress, while he served
as head of twenty five committees (works of J.A, 17). Adams was elected the first vice president
under Washington in 1788 (resch, 3). In 1796 Adams was elected as the second president (works
of J.A, 18). While he was in office he was known as a controversial figure that often went against
his cabinet members (works of J.A). Some even classified him as a loser (Diggins, 157). The
First reason is that America witnessed a revolution in the 1800 s as Jefferson s election was being
held (Diggins, 157). The second reason is that in a fair fight Jefferson had beaten Adams, he won
because the virginian must be declared the winner(Diggins, 157). The last impression is based off
the first two, in the American political development the jeffersonian republicans proved to have a
better grasp of direction of history (Diggins, 157).Adams was a federalist and his one term was less

Advantages Of Debit Card Vs Credit Card
The Advantages of Debit Card versus Credit Card The advantages of debit card versus credit
cards used by young adults are debit cards will not allow you to mismanage, overspend or go
into debt. The most common explanation for credit card debt for people under the age of 25.
Demographic and credit trends show that young people, and in particular students, may be the
next segment of credit users that will face difficult financial times. In the United States, there are
19.1 million students who are attending colleges and universities (US Department of Education
2009). They account for approximately 6% of a population of 308 million people (US Census
Bureau 2011). On average, students possess 4.6 credit cards (SallieMae 2009). They also owe
more on their credit cards than they did just a few years ago; in 2004, students owed, on average,
$2,900 on credit cards whereas in 2009 this figure soared by 78% to $4,100 (SallieMae 2009).
Moreover, young consumers account for the second largest rate of bankruptcy in the United States
(Sullivan, Thorne, and Warren 2001). Together, these figures suggest that young adult consumers in
America spend more with their credit cards than they should. In addition, research shows that credit
carddebtis associated with financial stress (Grable and Joo 2006) as well as poor academic
achievement (Pinto, Parente, and Palmer 2001). The desire to use credit as a form of payment but
with no steady income available to repay the credit line. For

Drug Abuse In Othello
William Shakespeare is responsible for coining the word addiction. Does this make him
responsible for everybody with an addiction? Shakespeare defined addiction as a devotion to a
habit. Here s an example of how Shakespeare utilized the term addiction in Othello, Act II, Scene II
It is Othello s pleasure, our noble and valiant general, that, upon certain tidings now arrived,
importing the mere perdition of the Turkish fleet, every man put himself into triumph; some to

Just because a person has factors that contribute to drug abuse doesn t mean that the person is
doomed to abuse drugs. Many people who have these factors never choose to use drugs at all,
and some people who choose to do so dabble only once, and they stop when the first experience
is negative. Many people who have addictions, make a conscious choices to engage in their
destructive behavior to deal with stress. Stress is the body s way of dealing with a demand. It
involves the release of different chemicals in the body so that it is prepared to take action. Stress
activates the hypothalamo pituitary adrenal axis and the sympathetic nervous system. This is
what sets forth the fight or flight reaction when there is a sense of danger. Self medication is a
situation where people turn to alcohol or drugs in an attempt to manage their problems in life.
Depressants like alcohol produce a calming effect on the body, and so the individual will feel
like they have escaped their difficulties. They may start to take these substances more and more
as a way to manage their stress levels. This is dangerous because the self medication can be far
more damaging than the initial stressor itself. Using alcohol or drugs to deal with stress is at best
a short term solution. Substance abuse only masks the problem and doesn t solve it. It will be
almost impossible for the individual to learn better ways of managing stress while

Conch Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Symbols: a mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or
process. Throughout this story the use of symbols were greatly used as a representation of a
civilization journey. The process was made up of 3 important symbols in the novel to which
helped the boys find an escape from the island. The boys found an escape route even if the
symbols were made as a negative impact on how they lived or as a positive impact. The novel, The
Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding utilizes the symbols of: the conch as an illustration
of leadership, the signal fire which illustrates a man s struggle for survival, and the beast is a
representationof man s fear of the unknown.
The conch is used as a symbol in the story as order to act as leader while holding the conch. As the
boys held the conch to speak they were given the chance to let out what they have to say without
everyone talking at the same time. That s what this shell s called. I ll give the conch to the next

meeting. They ll come when they hear us As a person receives the conch the boy s fight over to
who holds it next to speak which causes unbalanced emotions which causes a separation into two
groups. The importance of the conch served as how they reacted with each other in society manner
wise, since one person could only be the one speaking the others would have to show manners so
that no conflict would start over who s talking and to wait a turn.
The signal fire was used as an resource for man s survival as a way to be found by using it. The
source of the fire comes to as a personal idea on how Ralph thought of the idea to create a fire to

Sociological Analysis Of The Five Social Statuses
The macrosociology method that we are going to be talking about are the five social statuses that
are viewed are, status set, ascribed status, achieved status, status symbols, and master status. Along
with these social statuses Weber s term of the three P s apply, property which refers to wealth,
power which is getting others to do what you want, and lastly prestige, which is your social status.
Status sets refers to all the statuses or positions you occupy, such as being a mother, student,
boyfriend, husband, and so on, it can change from time to time. Ascribed status is involuntary and
they are earned at birth. For example your race, ethnicity, and gender, you cannot ask or choose, you

It is how we present our self in everyday life and the reasons we act the way we do. Reasons that
may affect how we present ourselves are the kind stage we re on, role performance, role
conflicts, and role strain. The difference between role and status is that you occupy a status, but
you play a role (Linton 1936). Although statuses are macrosociology based, there is still
confusion between roles and statuses. Goffman believed that there were stages in which we
performed our assigned roles such as front stage and back stage. The front stage is wherever we
deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your occupation. The back stage is a place we
can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front stage. For example, being in your
bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss what happened on the front
stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the front stage we re
putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is. Whereas in the back stage we
have no one to put on a show for and we can relax and let loose. Role performance is similar with
role conflict because a role performance is a certain interpretation that you give your role. For
example, I can play the role as a good student and turn in all my assignments in on time, score high

Examples Of Perverted Language In Animal Farm
Animal Farm FRQ
1. Orwell uses perverted language throughout the book to make the leaders manipulate the other
citizens or animals in the book. An obvious example of this is how Napoleon uses Squealer as a
propaganda speaker. Napoleon uses Squealer special skill of talking to animals and getting them to
his side. Orwell also uses the example of Snowball. Snowball was a spy for Jones Napoleon said.
When we see him we just kill him (Orwell 65). The animals at first don t believe it like Boxer by
saying that the animals gave him the Animal Hero First Class. However, the animals get swayed

4.The political allegory in the book comes out in the book in many different places. The political
allegory is that Orwell mocks the Revolution that changed Russians into the USSR. The person
who changed it was a man named Karl Marx. He started a revolution that two different classes
very different. He thought that the world was a struggle of a social class and another. This example
is what Old Major didn t want to happen but happened because of Napoleon. He turned animals
against each other and slaughtered those who disagreed with what he thought was right.
5. Old Major had a dream in the first chapter which he prophesied things that would happen. He
first prophesied that the farm would be run by the animals and also that they would drive Jones
out. He however didn t prophesied that napoleon would take over control and kill many animals in
the farm. Old Major also let the animals sing Beast of England which is like the chant for the
animals on Animal Farm.
6. The narrator is the person who commentates and describes the book in a second hand experience

The Lifecycle of a Star Essay
There are more stars than all of the grains of sand on earth. (Star Facts, 2005:1)
Looking up at the sky on a vibrant night, the vision is naturally lit one with millions of vivacious,
glistening stars. The tenacity of this essay is to explore the lifecycle of a star, thence, signify its
manifestation in the universe. A fundamental part of our universe is stars. Hence, these miniature
luminous forms are essentially very immense in magnitude and it is merely due to their substantial
distance from Earth that they appear so trivial. Scientifically, a star is a ball of hydrogen and helium
with sufficient mass that it can endure nuclear mixture at its core. A huge, shining ball of plasma,
whose lustre is an outcome of thermonuclear fusion are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The transportation of energy from the core of the protostar to the visible surface layer of the star
begins in a circular motion (as a gas). As a result, this stage connects the gas temperature inside
the protostar to the gas density this enables it to have a polytropic structure. As a protostar emits,
it shrinks in scope to produce the energy that replaces the discharged energy. This shrinkage
increases both the self gravity and pressure at the protostar s core correspondingly. This balance
produces a connection between the temperature of the protostar and the gravitational resistance of
the star. Eventually, as the radius of the star shrinks, the temperature will surge to the factor that it
reduces, thus, its density will further increase. However, the visible layer of the star doesn t
become affected in terms of increase in temperature because its location is set by the skill of light
to spontaneously escape from it. Thence, the protostar begins to become more opaque, less
luminous, and as an outcome the radiation of light decreases. It takes a long time for the star to
reach its main sequence because the decreasing luminosity and the increasing thermal energy cause
the rate of shrinkage to slow dramatically. Therefore, the protostar begins its brief life as a
charismatic star that diminishes in lustre on a timescale of hundreds of years. As years goes by, the

The Digital World Is Affecting Today s Youth
Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today s youth
in It s Complicated. She explains how the app generation is struggling to self identify and
successfully leverage the Internet to be app enabled. Youth s app dependency is a result of access
to digital technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self
identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they think
creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace
subreddit. This subreddit is a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer
hardware, postcreative and visually appealing computer configurations (called builds or rigs ) and
post satirical or funny pictures about trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with
unique special interests (i.e. PC s) to communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships
have the opportunity to be built and where creative ideas can be expressed openly.
Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to help console peasants ascend to the ranks of
the PC Master Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of
performance and ability when gaming and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting
nonsense, making claims that playing at suboptimal graphics settings on their consoles make for a
better atmosphere and an overall superior gaming experience.

What Does My Papa s Waltz Mean
When you read My Papa s Waltz, you might think it is about a boy and his father having fun just
before bedtime. However, if you look further into the words you see much more. Considering the
text is all one needs to discover the true meaning of this poem. The words will get into your soul
and bring sorrow and anger to the surface. The word whiskey (line 1) shows the father is a
drinking man, and the word dizzy (line 2) implies the amount of whiskey his father consumes
sickens the boy. The boy is young and fragile which plays in the lines of the poem death (line 3),
battered (line 10), beat (line 13), and caked hard (line 14), are all negative hidden meanings. The
word countenance (line 7) parallels the mother s stern disapproval. Hung (line 3) is past tense
reflecting on an earlier time. Understanding the words is the first step in analyzing the poem....

father as having the utmost power over the boy, he grabs his wrist instead of holding his hands,
showing the control the father has. The boy hung on like death (line 3), is showing he hung on to

Chinese Medicine As A Holistic Concept
Chinese Medicine as a Holistic Concept
Western medicine has four different areas: clinical, preventive, rehabilitation and general health
care. Western and Chinese medicine each has its own strengths in clinical and preventive medicine.
However, Chinese medicine has more advantages in rehabilitation and health care. Not all
physicians will agree with the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM. Even though
Chinese medicine is not effective for all illnesses and disease, Chinese medicine should be
recognized more around the world because it focuses on holism, maintenance and low cost
therapeutic treatments which will be further discussed in this essay.

The meridian channel is used to pin point areas of illness in the body. Some of the ingredients
include red ginseng, fungus, and Chinese red dates. The herbs are dried well before usage to
preserve nutrients, tone down the smell and for storage purposes in antique shelves. These herbs
are classified into three categories. First, the herbs are determined hot or cold. Cold herbs such as
licorice treat symptoms such as high fever, sore throat and constipation. Warm herbs such as red
ginseng treat cold symptoms such as cold hands and feet. Second, the medicines have distinct
flavors of sweet, sour, bitter, and pungent. Third, the meridian channel is used to determine where
the problems occur in the body as well as help perform action such as lifting. A person s health may

One example comes from my personal experience. Two years ago, my mother was concerned
about my health because of stress, indigestion and problems with sleeping and I was constantly
taking anti acids. I visited the practitioner and he prescribed me individual herbs to help relieve
stomach problems, sleeping and providing circulation in my body. The trial was held for two

Othello and Frankenstein Essay
From Man to Monster When monsters are thought of a very distinct picture comes to mind. An
ugly creature that is out for blood, born into a life where causing misery is his driving force. Do
these features really define what a monster is; works of literature like Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
and Shakespeare s Othellotell quite a different story. Monsters are not born but made just as
people are not born evil but can sometimes end up there. Othello and the Monster start of as good
men looking to be part of society but were pushed out because of what others perceived them to be.
This caused them to mentally and physically isolate themselves from everyone allowing hatred to

Since Othello is being manipulated he finds it hard to be around any one causing him to separate
himself from his loved ones and colleagues. When asking to speak with Desdemona to question
her on her infidelity he tells her, Get you to bed on th instant. I will be returned/ forth with.
Dismiss your attendant there. Look t be/ done. (Shakespeare IV, iii, 7 9). He is uncomfortable
talking to her in the presence of Emilia, almost like an outsider being involved would confuse him
further. His separation from all other characters other than Iago keeps him from knowing the truth.
This causes his mind to run wild and come up with reasons that justify him in his monstrous actions
that have become more frequent. However, in comparison the Monsters physical isolation causes
him to mentally isolate himself. After being abandon by Frankenstein the Monster is forced to live
on his own in the woods. Realizing that human kind will never truly accept him he asks Victor to
create him a mate stating, I am alone and miserable man will not associate with me (Shelley, 118).
When Victor ultimately denies the Monster of companionship he becomes enraged again
continuing to lose his faith in mankind. The Monsters physical segregation fuels his mental

are also mentally isolated in very different ways. Othello s mental isolation is driven by Iago s

Where Would We Be Without Technology Essay
Where would we be without technology? Technology is one of the most important tools that drives
society. Technology is defined as a tool, discovery or invention that makes day to day tasks easier.
An example of this is one of humanity s first and instrumental discoveries: the discovery of fire.
Equally important is the invention of farming. Yet perhaps the most important invention of all is
the invention of steam power. Each of these inventions or discoveries impacted society in a positive
and important way. These three innovations throughout humanhistory are prime examples of how
the evolution of technology can benefit society in many ways.
The discovery of fire had a colossal effect on society in the stone ages and throughout all of human
history, including modern day. The discovery of fire, through random chance or by possibly
knowing the potential benefits that fire provided, was the starting point which helped humans
evolve alongside this new technology. The technological advantages that fire provided was an
invaluable aid to human lives. It helped man stay warm, keep away dangerous animals, and most
importantly cook food.
The ability to stay warm in harsh environments provided a clear advantage for the human race that
it never would have had without the discovery of how to make fire. Staying warm helped to
detour colds, viruses and other cold related illnesses, including what is now known as snow
blindness and frost bite. Fire provided humans with one of the

Single Shot Essay
A single shot. A single shot is all it takes to freeze time, and create a standstill that will last for
generations. A single shot can transport people to a point in time, to let them remember an occasion
that they may have otherwise forgotten; not because it is unimportant, but rather in the scheme of
life sometimes the small moments may go unnoticed. The brain continues to amaze people day by
day the fact that an object so easily created, and so easily destroyed. It can resurface every emotion
that was present in that moment: in the ice age of time. By looking at photographys emotional
impact, one can see the effect on people s perspective on life and the world; this is important
because it brings attention to the exclusivity of pictures, image use in news events, and the
personal memoirs that they create. A picture cannot be measured in words, money, or tangible
objects, it is a priceless piece of a person s history. Nothing in the world compares to a photograph,
an authentic view into the past that is only accessible through the lens of a camera. Drawings and
paintings are tweaked by an artist s bias on how they remember a moment, videos take away
interpretation, which can keep people from thinking, and cause them to only focus on watching.
Snapshots are the only representation that exist in the world that isolate a moment in time and let
the mind wander back to the time when it took place. Scott Momaday expresses that, Photography,
at its best, is authentic art, an

Conserving Water For The Future
Conserving Water for the Future Agriculture must mediate between nature and human community,
with ties and obligations in both directions. To farm well requires an elaborate courtesy toward all
creatures, animate and inanimate (Wendell Berry). Farming is a delicate balance between
producing the most possible from the land without destroying the land. In order for farming to be
sustainable more has to be grown with less. Water conservation can be addressed in developing
countries by simply embracing modern farming methods. In developed countries more money will
have to be invested into water saving irrigationmethods. There was a time when you didn t shut
the water off when you brushed your teeth and now it is habit to shut the water off to save that
little bit of water. The same spirit will have to implemented in farming simple methods can be
used to save water. In order for farming to be sustainable in an ever changing world, more time
and effort needs to be dedicated to water conservation because the population is growing, water is
a finite resource, and using less water allows farmers to irrigate more land with the same amount of
water.
Farmers across the world will have to embrace modern irrigation techniques. Africa is a prime
example of a continent heavily invested in water conservation. In a continent where 23.2% of its
inhabitants are starving they still have farms without irrigation (World Hunger). Well it would
require significant changes switching

Coherentism and Foundationalism
Foundationalism vs. Coherentism Throughout history, philosophers have been trying to come up
with a clear way to provide the justification of our beliefs and knowledge. Noah Lemos offers
readers explanations of both foundationalism and coherentism for theories of justification. These
two different theories offer very different ways to explain the basis of our beliefs. For a
foundationalist, they believe that all of our beliefs can be broken down until we reach a basic
belief. This belief would be largely independent of other beliefs and not derived from other beliefs.
A coherentist feels that a belief can be reasonably justified if it is coheres with our other beliefs. The
foundationalist theory of justification boils everything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A coherentist however, would justify that the pot is hot through other beliefs that cohere with
this belief. Some of these coherent beliefs would be: the remaining coffee in the pot is hot, the
coffee is freshly brewed which would mean it is hot, I can see steam coming from the coffee in
my mug, the coffee I ve had every other day this week from the same pot have been hot and I can
feel the warmth from the mug in my hand. All of these beliefs are not basic as a foundationalist
would like, but they all cohere and provide reasonable justification for me to believe that the
coffee in my mug is hot. It is my opinion that coherentists have a better argument for beliefs, and
more specifically, this example. While I do think that there are many basic beliefs that are
justified simply because they just are, I am not convinced that all the beliefs we have in this
world can be broken down quite in this way. I do however, feel that many of our beliefs are
based in a web of other believes that all support each other. I know that my coffee is hot for
many reasons, one being that I can feel it. I don t think that I necessarily need to break it down
into experiences when I have many other clues that could more easily justify my belief. There
are so many clues and beliefs around me to justify my belief that it s not necessary to try and
deduce anything. There are way too many complicated beliefs in the world that I do not feel they
can all be traced back to basic

Comparing The Jungle And How The Other Half Lives
Society has led us to believe that what doesn t kill you actually makes you stronger. That there is
no gain without pain. That a man s blood, sweat, and tears will be all worth the struggle. The
Roman poet Horace even once said that adversity can bring out talents which in a successful
environment, would not exist. With all these assurances that difficult circumstances will meritable,
it is hard to picture Horace s statement being challenged. However, in the books, The Jungle, and
How the Other Half Lives, adversity clearly never led to any such benefits or talents being drawn
out as Horace mentioned. For example, within, The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, Jurgis, a Lithuanian
immigrant, came to America with his family for the American Dream. Eventually, they fall into
fiscal trouble, and Jurgis old father, Antennas, is forced to perform grueling work until he dies
from it. Additionally, Jurgis struggles to pay for his high interest house, and instead of eliciting a
talent, Jurgis elicits harsh resentment for his family. How the Other Half Lives, by Jacob Riis,

In the Age of Exploration these are two of the recorded encounters of Native Americans and here

years apart as well as many miles apart. With each encounter comes a difference in sophistication

To Columbus the Natives did not seem to be sophisticated or technologically advanced in his
encounters with them. Some of them lived in villages with houses built in the shape of tents
and the only architectural structures that I can recall being describes were these houses and the
very high chimneys. They did know how to make cotton thread and traded these twenty five
pounds of thread with the Spaniards and the they wore pieces of gold in their noses, wearing it
in bracelets on their arms and legs. They traveled by canoes on the water and by foot on land and
lived off the fruits from the land as well as fish, shellfish and birds. Most did not wear clothes
and if they did it was by determined who wore what by status and age. At some island they saw
cotton cloth covering some of the women. Some of the people did have the same language and
customs as from the other islands visited on this voyage and appeared more civilized than others.
Hernando Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519 and entered Tenochtitlan, city of the Aztecs. The Native
Americans here welcomed the Spaniards into the city with the belief that the Sun god had returned
to save the people and allowed them to stay for some time there and apparently to move about
most areas of the city freely. These Natives did display a much more sophisticated and
technologically advance society

Heat By Mike Lupa Summary
The book I read this month is called Heat. The author Mike Lupica did a really good job writing
this story. Heat is about a boy named Mike and his brother Carlos, and how they find their way
to live without any parents. Mike is probably the best pitcher on the Clippers, and in the league.
Then a kid named Justin s dad, the coach of the Giants had it out to get him out of the league. Just
to help his team make it to the Little League World Series. Mike just dealt with it for a while, until
he got back in the league, and got to pitch in the series.
To my Miguelito, he said. May the next time we are all together be on the day when he pitches
himself and his proud papi to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. (Lupica

the sensory details Mike Lupica used. For instance when Mike was the third base coach he
called the fake bunt, and told the kid to swing Mike Lupica wrote Wham!!! That made me feel
like I was there and could hear the sound of the ball being whaled off of the bat. That is just one
example out of the rest of the really good details Mike Lupica used in the book. I recommend this
book to someone that likes baseball or somebody that likes to read about sports. I chose this
recommendation because the book is about baseball. Also somebody that likes lovey dovey
books won t like this book. I said this because this has nothing even remotely close to this. I rate
this book a 10 out of 10. My reason for choosing the rate I did was that this was a great book. Heat
was the best book I have ever read. I think I liked it a lot because it was about baseball, and I love
everything about baseball. Mike Lupica used so many details, and it made me just want to keep
reading. He also used so many hooks during the book, and I got to the point where I couldn t put

The Crisis Of Nigeria, Azerbaijan, Sudan, And Lebanon Essay
Many nations around the world refine oil. Based on the number of barrels refined during the first
three months of 2016, the countries that refined the most oil were: Russia (10.5 million BPD),
Saudi Arabia (10 million BPD), the United States (9.2 million BPD), Iraq (4.3 million BPD) and
China (4.1 million BPD). (CNNMoney, 2016)
Just as there are many oil producing states in the United States that do not have refineries, there
are entire nations that are impacted by having a lack of refineries. A few oil rich nations that are
negatively impacted by a lack of refineries include: Nigeria, Russia, Sudan, Cyprus, and Lebanon.
Nigeria is currently the largest oil producer in Africa and was the world s fourth largest exporter
of LNG in 2015. Nigeria s oil production is hampered by instability and supply disruptions, while
its natural gas sector is restricted by the lack of infrastructure to commercialize natural gas that is
currently flared (burned off). (British Petroleum, 2016) Nigeria is a member of OPEC. Although
Nigeria is the largest oil producer in Africa, its production is affected by unplanned outages; some
that have been estimated to have been up to 500,000 BPD. (U.S. Energy Information

How To Write An Organic Contaminant Essay
Organic Contaminants in Humans Unfortunately, we grew up with the inception that organic food
crops and other merchandises are pesticide free, making us believe that it is completely safe for us
to eat. This is not one hundred percent true. Organic Contaminants are the main sorcery behind this.
These Contaminants are carbon based chemicals; which include solvents and pesticides. They can
enter our main everyday sources such as: water runoff from cropland or waste from factories
entering our foods, eventually exposing humans to these contaminants. Organic Contaminants can
be broken down into plastics, lubricants, fuels, solvents, pesticides and preservatives. Overall, any
kind of contaminant can enter our body systems through several different ways. Firstly, these

Therefore, if these contaminants can be measured as to how much of it approximately enters the
human body, it can potentially prevent certain diseases from developing. For example, most
people are known to have dioxins accumulated within the body as most people are exposed to
organically contaminated air, food crops, and meat or dairy products. The level in an individual s
body is identified as the dioxin body burden. Individuals who are carnivores may have higher
dioxin body burdens as the food within that category contain high levels of dioxins. Fortunately,
there are two main available tests that are used for measuring dioxins in human blood. The first
test is the Bioassay Test. This test provides an estimate for the total TEQ concentration in the body.
The second test is High resolution gas chromatography spectroscopy (HR GC/MS). This test

Animal breeding is a commonly used process all over the world, used to bring new puppies into
the world for young children and families, or farm animals for more farming production.
However what most do not know is that those animals are not always from a nice pet store or a
facility that treats their animals well. Breeding animals like dogs or farming animals in places that
are illegal often times leads to forms of abuse for them. Puppy mills often times sell dogs that went
through painful treatment and are typically sick in some way. Health Beauty Close Up interviewed
some animal organizations who says a puppy mill is, a dog breeding operation, which offers dogs
for monetary compensation or remuneration, in which the physical, psychological and/or behavioral
needs of the dogs are not being fulfilled due to inadequate housing, shelter, staffing, nutrition,
socialization, sanitation, exercise, veterinary care, and/or inappropriate breeding ( Pet Industry and
Animal Welfare Organizations Team to Address Puppy Mill Abuse ). Some farming industries end
up treating their animals bad their entire lives or not even giving them the chance at life. Breeding
farm animals or dogs in mills should be banned because of terrible living conditions, breeding
being used for their profits, and giving animals illness or causing death.

In the short story, Charles , the main character Laurie is a young boy whose behavior starts
changing when he goes to kindergarten. He comes home every day and tells his parents about a
mischievous, ill behaved child named Charles who gets into trouble each day at school. One day
Charles hit the teacher while other day he bounces a girl against the see saw. He says bad words
and makes another girl say bad word. As Charles behavior gets worse and worse, Laurie s mother,
the narrator, wonders how the class could allow a student like that to stay. She inquires with
Laurie s teacher about Charles during a PTA meeting. However, to her surprise, there is no student
named Charles instead, it was Laurie all along. Laurie is clever; he creates... Show more content on

He tells every detail which shows he is a self centered child. In the story it states, The teacher
spanked a boy, though, Laurie said, addressing his bread and butter. For being fresh, he added,
with his mouth full. This shows how Laurie elaborately describes events in his school. Laurie
tries to dress up as a grown up boy and does not bother to wave goodbye to his mom. When he
comes home, he slams the door and screams, Is anybody home? which illustrates he is seeking
attention for himself. He doesn t seem to take care of his baby sibling neither help his parents in
any of the chores. It s always about him. Laurie disrespects his father. In the story it states, What?
his father said, looking up. Look down, Laurie said. Look at my thumb. Gee, you re dumb. He
began to laugh insanely. This shows Laurie disregards his parents and does whatever he wishes.
Next, Laurie is undisciplined. Laurie s parents are focused on Laurie s classmate Charles bad
behavior and turn a blind eye to their own son s bad behavior. They fail to discipline Laurie on
multiple occasions. Laurie comes from school and slams the door, talks disrespectfully to his father

Staffing At Tanglewood s Work And Quality Of Staff
Staffing at Tanglewood [Design] is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it
works (Walker, 2003, para. 4). When Steve Jobs said this comment he was speaking about the first
iPod, but in actuality it rings true for any design, whether it is a product or a methodology.
Tanglewood is a retail store chain with an outdoors theme (Kammeyer Mueller, 2012). The
organizational structure in conjunction with recent growth is causing a disconnect between
Tanglewood s mission and quality of staff. Tanner Emerson and Thurston Wood (the owners) are
the founders of Tanglewood and are seeking the professional guidance of an external human
resources (HR) consultant to unify the organization s practices between regions (Kammeyer
Mueller, 2012). The HR consultant will use the staffing organizations model (Figure 1) to design a
plan for the organization. The staffing organizations model is an effective design when the content
works for the organization. Figure 1 (Heneman III, Judge, Kammeyer Mueller, 2012, p. 22)
Organization, Mission, Goals, and Objectives The owners built the Tanglewood industry from the
ground up, scraping together the funds using their charge cards and loans from family and friends
(Kammeyer Mueller, 2012). Currently, the organization boasts 243 stores in 11 states (Kammeyer
Mueller, 2012). In spite of the growth, the owners want to maintain the small town shopping
experience in each store. Mission Tanglewood will be the best

Gay Protests
Protest: a statement or action that expresses disapproval of, or objection to something
(Dictionary.com). Protests occur frequently; it is impossible to have all humans on the same page
about everything. Everyone is different, yet differences are not easily accepted in society. The
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community is very familiar with this
unacceptance. LGBT activists feel that they are being mistreated as a community. There have been
/are anti gay protests, which are usually seen as acts of hatred (Cruickshank, CNN). It is common
knowledge that the majority of people in the United States identify as heterosxual, because of this
when someone identifies as a homosexual, they are not conforming to the social normalities.....

Pride Parades happen all over the United States during June. Pride parades happen to rebel against
the homophobic, transphobic, etc. people, who want the LGBT community to be scared (Branum).
The way they have chosen to protest against these people, is by dedicating an entire month to
homosexuality. The LGBT community is very resilient and refuses to accept oppression; pride
parades, peacefully challenging discrimination against LGBT people and celebrate the
community s diversity. In pride parades there are dancers, drag queens, people with signs,
rainbow flags, choirs, you name it (Branum). It is a way for LGBT people to stick it to the man ,
by being themselves. The results of these parades are an increase of society s acceptance of
homosexual people. By putting themselves out there society has gradually become more accepting

version of Come Fly With Me is a little more upbeat but still compliments Frank Sinatra s original,
Moondance is a heavy bass but also a light jazz song, You Don t Know Me is famously known by
the Ray Charles recording and is a slow jazz ballad which BublСђ interprets very well, followed by
another slow jazz ballad That s All was written and made popular by Nat King Cole, For Once In

Another Love Like Mine is a romantic duet with BublСђ and Laura Pausini. BublСђ takes a break

who makes a surprise appearance and the two do a short imitation of each other. Evening furthering
away from jazz, BublСђ does a cover of pop rock song This Love by Maroon 5. After returning to
the standards, BublСђ starts with I ve Got You Under My Skin a signature Frank Sinatra song with

Contributions And Durkheim On Suicide
Г‰mile Durkheim on suicide.
Г‰mile Durkheim was a French sociologist, social psychologist and philosopher. Durkheim had an
important impact on the development of sociology. Durkheim s studies into suicide helped me in
understanding it as an issue in contemporary society. His most significant contribution was his work
defining suicide in social terms rather than individual terms. He was interested in how suicide might
be influenced more by social context and have a broader interpretation beyond the
individual.Durkheim wanted to prove that social situations, characteristics, activities, interactions
etc, influence and control individual and person behavior rather than the other way around.
Durkheim wrote a book called Le Suicide in 1897. This was a groundbreaking book in the field of
sociology. In this book Durkheim explores the differing suicide rates that are among society. In the
book Durkheim also distinguishes between four different types of suicide making is easier to
understand. He talks about the different rates of suicides and how they differ ... Show more content

Each of Durkheim s hypothesis involve some aspect of social state or social gender, age,
occupation, religion, marital status etc. He wanted to show that suicide was to be thought of in
social terms not individual terms which it had been thought as. Durkheim was seen as one of the
Fathers of sociology and his work is greatly admired. Durkheim s research and hypotheses have
helped my understanding of suicide in social terms and has helped me in seeing the different types
of suicide and the different rates. His work has shown me not only look at suicide from an
individual point of view but to look at the individuals social setting and social influences around
them and see how those influences have impacted the

The Company s Attrition Rate Essay
III. Staffing Strategy The company s attrition rate is steadily rising. Even with the higher
attrition rate, the marketing and sales teams continue to push sales in an expanding market. Due
to higher demand, the output needs to be heavily increased. All of these factors have lead
Motors and More Inc. to look into what their exact hiring needs are across the organization.
Motors and More Inc. does not currently have a HR department to assist with any of the hiring
requirements, including planning, recruiting. Having a recruiting team that can build a
relationship with the technical school and community college in the area will help draw
qualified talent. It will also help to diversify the employee pool, by reaching out to a growing
population of Kurdish and Hispanic in the area. The department will also help in the aid of having
a career succession plan in place when attrition occurs for each level of employee from entry level
up through senior management. Core Competencies Research suggests that some individuals may
be 20 times more productive than others. Clearly, any CEO would welcome as many of these
individuals into an organization as could be mass produced. Matching individual competencies
with job competency models puts individuals in positions where they can contribute most
(Rothwell 2011). Since, Motors and More, Inc. is in need of increasing their output by 96%, this
would be greatly beneficial for the company. Core competencies help a company become

Ethics in the Mental Health Profession Essay
In the mental health profession of counseling, therapy, psychology, psychiatric and social services
ethical dilemmas are faced primarily on a daily basis. Being that mental health professionals are
working with clients who are often fragile and vulnerable, they must develop an intense awareness
of ethical issues. On the other hand, mental health professionalswould never intentionally harm their
clients, students or colleagues and others whom they work with. Unfortunately, good intentions are
not enough to ensure that wrong doings will not occur and mental health professionals have no
choice but to make ethically determined decisions. Depending upon the experience and expertise of

On the other hand, not all outside relationships with a psychologist will create a considerable
conflict of interest in court ordered therapy. For instance, if you attend a large university that your

The Is The Right One For Me
Beating BPD In beginning this project, I struggled with choosing a diagnosis that would be the
right one for me to attempt to understand. Mental illness is a topic that has plagued my family for
generations. It has been a common theme in every relationship I have ever had. Although
initially I assumed this circumstance would make it immensely easy to choose a topic for this
paper, as it turned out it was the opposite. I first considered Oppositional Defiant Disorder, as I
thought surely this is the right topic so that I may take my findings to the father of my children to

Beginning with an inability to function, an impairment in personality must be present in either
identity or self direction. A person exhibiting an impairment in identity might criticize himself
excessively, have deep and troubling experiences of emptiness or possibly even experience
dissociative states under extreme stress. A person experiencing an impairment with self
direction would exhibit signs of inability to follow through or possibly even set goals, and have
no drive in regards to career plans. The Diagnostic criteria for this disorder demand that 5 of 9
criteria are met. Often a person with this disorder will exhibit signs of suicidal tendencies or self
mutilation. Other symptoms may include, but are not limited to reacting in advance to a
possibility of abandonment. The mere thought of losing a relationship or a person who is viewed
in some way as a caretaker is enough to cause significant changes in their self image and therefore
their behavior. These people are extremely sensitive to changes in their environment, and it does not
matter if those changes are announced in advance or sprung by surprise. Extreme irritability and
anxiety can cause instability as well. Often issues controlling anger and temper tantrums become
extremely problematic in keeping stability in home and work environments. Most of the time this
issue escalates to inappropriate proportions, causing loss of jobs, dissolution of marriages or long

Kikkongo Word Nommo Essay
The Kikongo word nommo means makes things live as what they are: man or tree or animal and
word (Kingsolver 209). Adah explains that it s as if something isn t worth anything until it is
named. Like a life isn t anything until there is a name to it. It differentiates people. Therefore, it
helps Adah understand that she isn t the same as her twin sister, even if they are twins. They
came from the same mother, egg, and stomach. However, that doesn t make them the same. They
re individual humans and their names differentiate them. Adah also understands why her father
is such an awful Christian preacher for the people of Kilanga. Her dad tries preaching in their
language, however, it s not really their language. Nathan doesn t know what he is talking about
and what words he is really saying so what comes out of his mouth, makes little sense to the
people of Kilanga or sounds wrong to them so it makes his practice look bad and him look
dumb. That s why no one in Kilanga really looks up to what they re doing or what he s preaching
because he isn t concentrating on letting the people of Kilanga understand the differences of his
words and their language. The people of Kilanga gave the girls different names. They re very

Similarities Between Greeks And Trojans
Greeks and Trojans
The Iliad is a book full of poems that talk about the history of Trojans and Greeks. Within the
Iliad, there is a strong urge to show a world in which was are tremendous and the gods have
direct hand in human events and these deities influence fate. The two leading gods, Achillies and
Aeneas, the reader can see the ways in which these two cultural problems entwine and try to
create an image of the ancient world which is at once barbarously real in terms of the depiction of
not just the glory, but also the horrors of war which are filled with supernatural and mystical
figures called the gods.
Each of the main characters are selected by the gods in some ways but however gained favor not
only because of who they are and of their birth but also are fated to prove themselves as a true
warrior and to fulfill certain expectations to prove to see if they are worthy or not.
The gods in the Iliad are manifested not just to have a direct hand in the lives of mortals, but
moreover to be picky about whom they would like to help. Greek religion held powers and fears
of all kinds so therefore the reasons behind their motivation and resolutions is not like the
modern Christian notion where they think that whoever deserves to have the honor will be it.
From what I have read to see, its gods were within the world, one that they did not create. Power
such as gods, spirits and nymphs did not die but yet were born. The Greek gods were immortal and
had a long life with all

Personal Narrative Essay On The Game Playoffs
Playoffs It had been a long season, many losses, but many learning moments, we were second to
last in the league and only had about ten wins. The only thing we had going for us, the playoffs.
We had tied the West Kent Hawks and beat two other teams 7 1 and 10 2 to make it here, and
there I was. Sitting in the locker room with a blank stare and hands hanging from my chest
guard, this is usually what happens before games. I was anxious to get on the ice, but neverous
too, because this is how the little caesars playoffs work. You five teams in one division, the top

  • 2. Changes in Algerian Foreign Policy Under Bouteflika s... When Bouteflika became President in 1999, there were no indications that the Algerian foreign policy would undergo any change. Alexis Arieff s assumption that: The legacy of Algeria s anti colonial struggle contributes to Algerian leaders desire to prevent direct foreign intervention, their residual scepticism of French intentions, and Algeria s positions on regional affairs, including a non interventionist stance (1) was an anticipation that no far reaching variations in the Algerian foreign policycould be expected. More than that, being one of the chief architects of Algeria s nationalist foreign policyof the 1960s and 1970s, Bouteflika s known attitude to foreign policy suggested continuity rather than any radical break with the recent past. Similarly, the prevailing political situation in Algeria suggested that there was almost no prospect that the tensions in Algerian Western relations would diminish in the foreseeable future. However, if one considers Algeria s domestic imperatives, geostrategic considerations, the fast changing regional and international order, and the country s foreign policy outlook, then one logically realises that the prevailing geopolitical context in Algeria, starting from the 1990s, necessitated a new foreign policy paradigm; one that adapts to the changing realities without necessarily compromising the doctrines, principles and practices that drove the foreign policy of the government since independence in 1962 (Boukhars). The mission also had several other purposes such as conducting scientific experiments. The reason why it landed in the Taurus littrow highlands is because it was a place on the moonthat had not yet been explored yet. Scientists were hoping to get some interesting new rock samples. The mission took place on December 7, 1972. There is a lot of history behind the apollo 17 technology. It all started with sputnik the first satellite to go up to space. Since then the technology has evolved considerably to the point where it can eject certain layers of the rocket, and also go all the way to the moon. In terms of cost it cost roughly 220 milion dollars which in 1972 money is a lot more today. Also countless man hours were put into the space program in general, and apollo 17 is no different. ... • 5. PTSD and its Affects on the Human Body PTSD and its Affects on the Human Body My girlfriend s brother, Mary served in the Marines for four years. In those four years, he made three combat tours and four other small deployments. During his first trip to Iraq, he was severely injured in a land mine accident. He was the only one out of the other three soldiers in the tank that survived. The accident left him with a severe brain injury and partly blind in his left eye. Mary was in an Iraqi hospital for about two weeks. He then decided to continue with his duty of being of Marine. This accident, along with losing close friends, and seeing others die, has left him traumatized. Although, his PTSD is not as severe as other solders, it still affects him in his day to day activities. PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. According to a medical dictionary, PTSD is a debilitating psychological condition triggered by a major traumatic, such as war, death of a loved one, a natural disaster, or rape . • 6. Musical Exoticism In Britten s Death In Venice Music 15: Paper #2 In the late nineteenth century, France forged a new path in music and ushered in the practice of musical exoticism. Pieces, such as operas, began to be characterized by their use of exotic elements including: music, makeup, clothing and props. Ralph P. Locke in, Musical Exoticism: Images and Reflections, expanded upon this notion stating that the purpose of musical exoticism was to evoke a place that is perceived as different from one s home (Locke, p.47). Elaborating from this definition a spectrum of musical exoticism was contrived; with pure exoticism, intended to other the exotic elements, and transcultural composing, intended to provide a hybrid of musical styles, representing the two extremes on opposing ends (Locke, p.44, 228) . Benjamin Britten in his opera, Death in Venice, uses exotic elements Gamelanmusic in a nontraditional sense that does not adhere stringently to the conditions of pure exoticism or transcultural composing. Some pieces, such as Britten s Death in Venice, blur the lines of distinction between each end of the musical exoticism spectrum and are open to subjective interpretation by the listener. Thus, through analyzing the use of exotic elements and their intended purpose in Britten s Death in Venice, it is my opinion that the piece falls more in accordance with pure exoticism rather than transcultural composing, due to Britten s use of the exotic elements to effectively other the homosexual attraction of opera s main character. Musical exoticism is the use of non western elements in western music for the purpose of defining and representing exotic elements or othering, that is to label a group or place as different from one s own (Locke, p.45). Musical exoticism is a diverse genre, and pieces can adopt a variety of forms. Therefore, musical exoticism is regarded as a spectrum rather than definitive categorization. On one end of the spectrum is pure exoticism and on the other is transcultural composing. Pure exoticism is used to represent an exotic subject through the use of othering that is to present a people, place or group in contrast to the audience s home so that the audience perceives the exotic element as different from themselves ... • 8. The Impact Of Virtual Communities And Social Media On The... Although virtual communities and social media primarily exist in the virtual world, they have made an impact on the physical world just as much as the virtual one. The Internet is changing the way people work, relax, interact ... it is changing the way they live their day to day lives. More and more people are beginning to replace face to face interactions with online interactions due to the easy interaction offered by online platforms. These new found virtual communities are new ways of interaction that have been made possible by the Internet. Social media and virtual communities have become to be part of every day life, and are with this, beginning to replace the interactions taking place in physical spaces. This idea is presented by Rheingold s A Slice of Life , in which he presents the first, second, and third places to describe the essential social surroundings in people s life and their community. The first is the social environment of one s home, and those that one lives with, which is the most private and personal space one has. The second is the office, or where one works, which has a presumed order and day to day routine. The third place is the place people gather for conviviality, which includes environments such as cafes and parks, and are of vast importance due to them allowing for interactions holding society together and establishing feelings of a sense of place. These third places are shifting to the virtual world, due to the similarities found between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stanford Business School professor, David Montgomery and his co author Marvin Lieberman first popularized the concept of First Mover Advantage in a 1988 paper. This concept became the sole reason for out of control expenditure by start ups in order to attain a monopoly like status. But there was just one problem This concept was simply not true. Ironically, 10 years later, the authors of the paper backed off their claims but by then every other firm was using this phrase in justification of their reckless Get big fast strategy. In their paper Pioneer advantage: Marketing logic or marketing legend? Peter N. Golder and Gerard J. Tellis better explained the fate of Early movers entering new markets. Their research showed that Early Movers typically had a 47% failure rate. What s worse was that their studies showed that the survivors had a lower market share than found in other studies. Moreover, Townley made museum like homes to share his interest of antique arts with other citizens and fellow enlightened men. Also, he carefully planned and placed art works/statues in his house to make them look more aesthetically pleasing and balanced. On the other hand, British connoisseurs did not care about the placement of the statues, but only cared to have the statues to show that they are upper class or connoisseurs who collect valuable antique art works (Scott 209). Even if John knew he was not the best he never let it bring him down. Adams was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in October of 1735, even though they weren t sure the actual date (Diggins, 17). His father was a farmer, he persuaded him to go to Harvard college, after that he was persuaded to make a career in the congregational ministry (Ref. history). John was the first american to become a minister in England (Resch, 3). He also was an educated lawyer, and early became identified with the patriot (US government). In 1774 his career in law ended, the colonist and developing nations began demanding all of his talents (Charles akers). When the british soldiers started the Boston Massacre against the colonies Adams acted as a lawyer for the soldiers (works of J.A, 15). Adams was a character of controversy leading to the American Revolutionfrom 1775 to 1783 (charles Akers). He helped create the navy for the country, and had large influences on the congress, while he served as head of twenty five committees (works of J.A, 17). Adams was elected the first vice president under Washington in 1788 (resch, 3). In 1796 Adams was elected as the second president (works of J.A, 18). While he was in office he was known as a controversial figure that often went against his cabinet members (works of J.A). Some even classified him as a loser (Diggins, 157). The First reason is that America witnessed a revolution in the 1800 s as Jefferson s election was being held (Diggins, 157). The second reason is that in a fair fight Jefferson had beaten Adams, he won because the virginian must be declared the winner(Diggins, 157). The last impression is based off the first two, in the American political development the jeffersonian republicans proved to have a better grasp of direction of history (Diggins, 157).Adams was a federalist and his one term was less distinguishing than his contributions during the RevolutionJohn Adams John Adamsdid not really play a big role like some of the others in the making of America. The most common explanation for credit card debt for people under the age of 25. Demographic and credit trends show that young people, and in particular students, may be the next segment of credit users that will face difficult financial times. In the United States, there are 19.1 million students who are attending colleges and universities (US Department of Education 2009). They account for approximately 6% of a population of 308 million people (US Census Bureau 2011). On average, students possess 4.6 credit cards (SallieMae 2009). They also owe more on their credit cards than they did just a few years ago; in 2004, students owed, on average, $2,900 on credit cards whereas in 2009 this figure soared by 78% to $4,100 (SallieMae 2009). Moreover, young consumers account for the second largest rate of bankruptcy in the United States (Sullivan, Thorne, and Warren 2001). Together, these figures suggest that young adult consumers in America spend more with their credit cards than they should. In addition, research shows that credit carddebtis associated with financial stress (Grable and Joo 2006) as well as poor academic achievement (Pinto, Parente, and Palmer 2001). Goffman believed that there were stages in which we performed our assigned roles such as front stage and back stage. The front stage is wherever we deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your occupation. The back stage is a place we can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front stage. The transportation of energy from the core of the protostar to the visible surface layer of the star begins in a circular motion (as a gas). As a result, this stage connects the gas temperature inside the protostar to the gas density this enables it to have a polytropic structure. As a protostar emits, it shrinks in scope to produce the energy that replaces the discharged energy. This shrinkage increases both the self gravity and pressure at the protostar s core correspondingly. This balance produces a connection between the temperature of the protostar and the gravitational resistance of the star. Eventually, as the radius of the star shrinks, the temperature will surge to the factor that it reduces, thus, its density will further increase. However, the visible layer of the star doesn t become affected in terms of increase in temperature because its location is set by the skill of light to spontaneously escape from it. Thence, the protostar begins to become more opaque, less luminous, and as an outcome the radiation of light decreases. It takes a long time for the star to reach its main sequence because the decreasing luminosity and the increasing thermal energy cause the rate of shrinkage to slow dramatically. Therefore, the protostar begins its brief life as a charismatic star that diminishes in lustre on a timescale of hundreds of years. As years goes by, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology is defined as a tool, discovery or invention that makes day to day tasks easier. An example of this is one of humanity s first and instrumental discoveries: the discovery of fire. Equally important is the invention of farming. Yet perhaps the most important invention of all is the invention of steam power. Each of these inventions or discoveries impacted society in a positive and important way. These three innovations throughout humanhistory are prime examples of how the evolution of technology can benefit society in many ways. The discovery of fire had a colossal effect on society in the stone ages and throughout all of human history, including modern day. The discovery of fire, through random chance or by possibly knowing the potential benefits that fire provided, was the starting point which helped humans evolve alongside this new technology. The technological advantages that fire provided was an invaluable aid to human lives. It helped man stay warm, keep away dangerous animals, and most importantly cook food. The ability to stay warm in harsh environments provided a clear advantage for the human race that it never would have had without the discovery of how to make fire. For a foundationalist, they believe that all of our beliefs can be broken down until we reach a basic belief. To Columbus the Natives did not seem to be sophisticated or technologically advanced in his encounters with them. Some of them lived in villages with houses built in the shape of tents and the only architectural structures that I can recall being describes were these houses and the very high chimneys. They did know how to make cotton thread and traded these twenty five pounds of thread with the Spaniards and the they wore pieces of gold in their noses, wearing it in bracelets on their arms and legs. They traveled by canoes on the water and by foot on land and lived off the fruits from the land as well as fish, shellfish and birds. Most did not wear clothes and if they did it was by determined who wore what by status and age. At some island they saw cotton cloth covering some of the women. Some of the people did have the same language and customs as from the other islands visited on this voyage and appeared more civilized than others. Hernando Cortes landed in Mexico in 1519 and entered Tenochtitlan, city of the Aztecs. The Native Americans here welcomed the Spaniards into the city with the belief that the Sun god had returned to save the people and allowed them to stay for some time there and apparently to move about most areas of the city freely. • 30. Heat By Mike Lupa Summary The book I read this month is called Heat. The author Mike Lupica did a really good job writing this story. Heat is about a boy named Mike and his brother Carlos, and how they find their way to live without any parents. Mike is probably the best pitcher on the Clippers, and in the league. Then a kid named Justin s dad, the coach of the Giants had it out to get him out of the league. Just to help his team make it to the Little League World Series. Mike just dealt with it for a while, until he got back in the league, and got to pitch in the series. To my Miguelito, he said. May the next time we are all together be on the day when he pitches himself and his proud papi to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. (Lupica ... Because if you close your eyes you can picture every bit off the book because of all the sensory details Mike Lupica used. That made me feel like I was there and could hear the sound of the ball being whaled off of the bat. That is just one example out of the rest of the really good details Mike Lupica used in the book. I recommend this book to someone that likes baseball or somebody that likes to read about sports. I chose this recommendation because the book is about baseball. Also somebody that likes lovey dovey books won t like this book. I said this because this has nothing even remotely close to this. I rate this book a 10 out of 10. My reason for choosing the rate I did was that this was a great book. Heat was the best book I have ever read. I think I liked it a lot because it was about baseball, and I love everything about baseball. Mike Lupica used so many details, and it made me just want to keep reading. The level in an individual s body is identified as the dioxin body burden. Individuals who are carnivores may have higher dioxin body burdens as the food within that category contain high levels of dioxins. Fortunately, there are two main available tests that are used for measuring dioxins in human blood. The first test is the Bioassay Test. This test provides an estimate for the total TEQ concentration in the body. The second test is High resolution gas chromatography spectroscopy (HR GC/MS).
