An Analysis Of Gatsby And Quentin And The Great...
Jay Gatsby and Quentin Compson come from noticeably different families, but they are similar in
more ways than expected. Their similarities are worth examining, despite the few differences
between the two, such as their personalities and upbringings. Gatsby and Quentin both have
obsessions with the past, the women that they love, as well as a desire to solely possess these
women. By considering these characters from Sound and the Fury and The Great Gatsbytogether,
important life lessons can be learned. There is no way to recapture the past, despite the amount of
effort that is exerted to do so and some dreams are not worth pursuing if they are impractical.
Gatsby and Quentin are both similar in their obsession with the past. The first three sections of
Sound and the Fury are set up to show that each character figuratively lives in a different time.
Benjy sees everything as the present, Jason only focuses on the future, and Quentin lives in the past.
He does not simply remember the past occasionally, but Quentin is unable to think about anything
but the past. There are constant flashbacks throughout his section to memories of Caddy, his father,
and fights. His grandfathers watch becomes a constant reminder of time because of the periodic
ticking. Quentin explains, I went to the dresser and took up the watch, with the face still down. I
tapped the crystal on the corner of the dresser and caught the fragments of glass in my hand and put
them into the ashtray and twisted the

Wuthering Heights Controversy
Emily Bronte started writing Wuthering Heights in December of 1847. She was born on July
30, 1818 in England. She live with her father, brother, and two sisters. She was not too fond of
people. The alternative was her liking to animals as they do not judge nor cause pain, just love
for their human counterpart. She was known for having the will of iron because anything that
she sets her mind too gets done without hesitation. This can be seen in her writing as one of her
characters in the book never gave up trying to get what he wants. One of her favorite pass times
was cooking in the kitchen to get away from the moors. Also being stubborn has led to her death
because she never wanted to go to the doctor or rest when she was ill. She died from... Show more

Majority of the people would get sick and die because of the lack of medicines and antibiotics.
The characters would mostly die from being sick. This is an issue because kids would often be
left alone without parents. Since the main character did not have any parents, he was raised
cruelly. He was abused and mistreated by none relative and made him grow up to be a
psychopath. The author did a great job on using symbols to help understand what the feeling and
emotions are running through the characters minds. Many scenes were memorable. The first
scene that caught my attention is the female and male first realize the love that they have for
each other. The scene helped me understand what a nice moment it was for both of the
characters. Heathcliff s love for Catherine is intense and he is very romantic and full of passion.
She loves him as well and she considers themselves as one. She tells Nelly about this when she
tells her about Edgar. When Catherine talks to Nelly about Edgar, they are in the kitchen. Cathy
was sure that they were alone, and nobody was there to listen. She was wrong. Little did she
know, Heathcliff overheard her tell Nelly that she cannot be with Heathcliff because Hindley has
degraded him too much and that marrying him would degrade her. She proceeds to confess her
love for Heathcliff to Nelly. Heathcliff leaves because he overheard what Cathy told

Period Of Unrest In Canada Essay
The Period of Unrest in Canada After WWI
The after effect of the war was not what the European and North American countries expected, the
war concluded with Canadian citizens in a displeased and agitated state. The First World War was
extremely significant to Canada because it was their first major battle in which they were
triumphant and gained independence. However, the country did not foresee the difficulties that
accompanied the war. As a result, the end of WWI led to a period of negative conditions in Canada
due to the banning of alcohol, rising government debt, and increasing unemployment.
Canadian soldiers consumed alcohol to intoxicate themselves, which allowed them to forget their
issues and move on, however, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war industries closing down led many men to unemployment, several undesirable
conditions and post war labor unrest. A man who survived the great depression stated, As a
young man, I lived through the Great Depression, when banks failed and so many lost their jobs
and homes and went hungry. I was fortunate to have a job at a canning factory that paid 25 cents
an hour (Faust James). This quote shows the atmosphere during the great depression with high
rates of unemployment and bankruptcy. James Faust was grateful that he at least had a job that
paid him 25 cents per hour, showing the requisite for men to provide for their families in any
way possible. However, they were beginning to become restless about their conditions and
started to act up against their government. On May 1919, the Winnipeg General strike took
place, and was known as Canada s best known general strike. 30,000 workers left their jobs and
began to demand 85 cents per hour, 8 hour workdays and the right to collectively bargain. The
strike then ended on Bloody Saturday , when the government arrested the leaders of the strike and a
riot formed in Winnipeg (Reilly Nolan). This was significant because of the attention that was
drawn to the social and economic problems of the workers. Thus forth, the unemployment for men
led to severe poverty and frustration that caused a period of unrest in

Patient Centred Care Essay
Patient Centred Care Essay
This essay is based on the Case study of a patient named as Mrs Ford. It will be written as a
logical account, adopting a problem solving approach to her care. She is elderly and has been
admitted onto a medical ward in the hospital, following a stroke. This essay analyses the care that
she will receive and focuses on the use of assessment tools in practice. Interventions will be put in
place directly relating to the assessment feedback and in line with best practice.

Mrs Ford is vulnerable and will need restorative care. A vulnerable adult is defined as someone

adult because she is elderly, needs assistance and has a new disability. She is anxious and
knowing that the nurses are treating her individually and with compassion will make her feel
safer. Although she is vulnerable and at risk there is nothing to indicate that Mrs Ford does not
have capacity. Mental capacity is assumed unless proven otherwise and patients should be able
to make their own decision even if it is an unwise one (Mental Capacity Act, 2005). Therefore
Mrs Ford can make informed decisions and consent to all aspects of her care. With Mrs Ford s
consent, her family can be involved in her care and they may be able to assist with

The Indigenous People Of California
The indigenous people of California had existed on the lands as hunters gathers before the arrival
of the Spanish who were the first Europeans to reach this part of the Americas. These settlers who
began surveying the area since 1530, helped introduce the mission system around 1697 as part of an
effort to set up permanent bases for new arrivals and as a bulwark against other European powers.
This establishment caused the natives to transition from their original lifestyle into agrarian farmers
to help bring in revenue for the Spanish crown which led to them being exploited economically in
the process. To establish order in this new land, the Spaniards used harsh punishments for rooting
out defiance within the Indian population. However, eventually the natives would begin to die off
in such large quantities that it echoed what else was happening what was happening in the rest of
the continent. Overall, the effect on the indigenous population was predominantly negative due to
contributing towards loss of culture, experiencing callous treatment at the hands of the Spanish, and
forced population decline.
Native Americans lost their culture once the Spanish made them a part of the mission system.
Before European arrival, they were predominantly pagan and had multiple gods or spirits which
they worshipped as part of their rituals for successful harvest or hunt. Through the mission system,
they underwent baptism through Catholicism and learned to worship only one supreme being and

Roman Corinthian Temples
The Roman Corinthian temples were a testament to the construction techniques and its architecture
was heavily influenced by the Etruscans. Romans worshipped several deities and thus temples
served as a place of high importance which was adorned with reliefs and sculptures. A typical
Roman temple, for example, Temple of Augustus and Roma consisted of a cella housing the main
deity and approached through a colonnaded portico (pronaos) by means of a flight of stairs. The
temples were constructed with the help of concrete and oriented themselves to face east towards the
rising sun and entered through the west. The column order seen in the Roman Corinthian temples
was inspired by the Greek architecture. Vitruvius, the Roman architect likened the

Forensic science.
The Inspire Science program involved having weekly basis school meetings in the science labs. I
attended each week working on preparing for science related activities such as making DNA,
chromosomes from strawberries and creating a DNA model. The class was split into groups of 8
each group assigned to a classroom for the day. Furthermore splitting into pairs to work with a
group of 6 children. I lead my group teaching them interesting facts about science and how
science is involved in everyday life. I monitored my group as we worked on a forensic worksheet,

But due to lack of historical argument, the role of social media and an importance of the Green
Movement has largely underestimated.
This study claims that if people in 2009 used their cellphone or other social media such as
Facebook or Twitter, today they are seeking for other realms of discussion and a day before 2009
were using blogs to declare their messages to the regime. Then if we see this movement as an
ongoing democratic process which has been entrenched by newspapers, social media, blogs or
SMS, then it s quite difficult to label a movement as a failed or unsuccessful one.
The green Movement in Iran
One of the key sources is The Green Movement in Iran , which has written by Ali Dabashi
(2011). He has a historical view towards the topic and in the preface of his book, he refers to the
green movement as a civic movement rather than a revolutionary act. He also explained how the
Green Movement exists and grows over the course of time through different chapters of book.
Dabashi used a chronological method in which mentions to different approaches and events. He
also compares the Green Movement with Islamic revolution in 1979. Although he mentioned the
key role of social media, yet he did not provide methodological and analytical approaches to
support his view. Dabashi s points raises the issue that social media has a great effect on the Green

Essay To Be A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
Deciding to be a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer was not an easy or fast decision. Like
everything else in life, my decision was gradual and time consuming. However, being involved
in the medical field was always something that I longed to do. Most other kids want to be a
firefighter, police man, or President of the United States. For me I always knew that my heart
belonged in the hospital. It all started in the 4th grade. That s when I knew that being in the
medical field is what I ve always wanted to do. This day, my 4th grade teacher gave us an
assignment while learning science. We were specifically learning about the heart and it s 4
chambers. This subject, I remember, was so captivating and fascinating for me. I soaked in all
the information I got from this class extremely easily. It was unlike any of the other classes that
I have taken thus far. Math, literature and history were not subjects that I thought were very
interesting for me but science was something that I especially excelled in. As the years went by I
learned that I was especially had an interest in forensics. The ability to see the open body one on
one in the fashion that forensics get to have contact with a body was more than interesting for
me. So at the age of 12, I decided that forensics was what I was gonna put my mind to. The first
thing I did was let my mother know that I finally have an idea of where I was going with my life.
Unfortunately, she completely disliked the idea of me

Alternative Beta Funds Are All High Dividend Oriented
1) Alternative beta funds are all high dividend oriented and therefore strive to provide low
variance on high returns, achieved through a combination of active management and passive
tracking of their corresponding benchmark indices. The differing benchmarks mean that each ETF
is invested in different sectors and firms and these strategies lead to varying performance. RDV
RDV matches the Russell Australia High Dividend Index; its investments are primarily in large,
well established firms such as financials and property trusts (highest of the four ETFs). RDV s

IHD IHD s portfolio contains 50 securities from the ASX300, like RDV, and also limits
individual equity weights at 4%, the lowest of the four ETFs. Consequently, VHY VHY
diversifies its securities by limiting sectors to 40% and individual funds at 10% to avoid
overinvestment in a single stock. These limits are the highest of the four funds and therefore
VHY sees large investment in large cap value stock on the ASX that have a historically strong
dividend payout. 2) The proxy for all ETF analysis is the ASX300 due to ease of information
availability. Ideally, individual benchmarks would also be used to identify the effectiveness of
managers in matching their desired indices. However, using the market portfolio does allow
better comparison of performance individual ETFs against each other relative to the market
(Henriksson 1984) and makes analysis under CAPM, Single Index Model and related measures
more accurate. Furthermore, the R Squared is high for all stocks against the ASX300 indicating a
robust relationship. Comparing the four ETFs, the fund with the highest monthly excess return, on
the risk free rate, is VHY (0.024%). Clearly this is not risk adjusted and consequently the reward
to variability ratio (Sharpe 1964) is utilised to quantitatively measure return for each ETF relative
to the total risk it exposes investors to. However, the returns for all ETFs are not normally

Aids Memorial Quilt Research Paper
The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt is a place for people to celebrates the lives of people
who have died for the causes that related to AIDS. It works as a commemoration for social and
personally expressive. During the 20 centuries, many people who died of AIDS related causes did
not have funerals since the surviving family members felt social imputation of AIDS, and many
funeral homes or cemeteries refused to accept the deceased s remains. This social phenomenon
made AIDS activist, Cleve Jones, have an idea for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. In the candlelight
March in1985, Jones asked people to write the names of their family members who were killed
by the AIDS related causes on signs. Then he was inspired by the signs that were taped on the
San Francisco Federal Building. To Jones, all the signs looked like a huge patchwork quilt. In
1987, Cleve Jones, Mike Smith, and volunteers first started the NAMES project in San Francisco.
The goal of the Quilt is to bring awareness to how massive the AIDS pandemic really is, and to
bring support and healing to those affected by it. Another goal is to raise funds for community

Counter dependency statements. They seek independence by rebelling from the direction of the

These groups rely on technology to communicate with one another and to accomplish the tasks
allocated by the organization. One benefit of a virtual team is that they use technology and this can
help increase efficiency and productivity of the members. The virtual teams also assist in the
development of intellectual capital. The composition of the virtual groups helps improve quality as
well as the outcome. The other benefit is the efficiency of communication. Some of the challenges
include the distance between the members. The significant distance may dilute leadership, weaken
human relations as well as amplify dysfunction. Virtual teams are hard to manage especially when it
comes to goal setting, task distribution, coordination and member motivation. Virtual organizations
rely on trust that the other members will fulfill their roles since it is not possible to monitor them
closely (Hoppe, 2011). The virtual teams may face some internet challenges such as slow internet or
disconnection. This problem can be handled through the use of alternative methods of
communication such as mobile phones. While making a virtual team, the team members should

of means of communication. These organizations rely heavily on the internet for video

What Is The Theme Of Sexualism In The Eve Of St Agnes By...
Pre Raphaelite art was a movement was born of poetry, English Romanti cism texts inspired the
young artists of the Brotherhood. The first of these texts The Eve of St Agnes, a poem by John
Keats and key text from Romanticism that served as inspiration for John Everett Millais and
William Holman Hunt and spawned the dawn of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. A romantic tale of
elopement and awakening sexuality, young Porphyro hides in Madeline s bed chamber,
Even to Madeline s chamber, and there hide Him in a closet, of such privacy that he might see her

The name Pre Raphaelite came from their opposition of the academy s promotion of the
Renaissance painter Raphael. Other inspirations came from art critic John Ruskin s encouragement
to go to nature , believing art to be a serious subject that should be treated with maximum realism
and truth.
The principal philosophies of their movement were primarily religious, but would often draw
inspiration from texts and literature, particularly those associated with death and love. In their
paintings, the Brotherhood created an entirely new manner of presenting human anatomy by
imbuing their depictions of men and women with medieval and spiritual ideas in which they were
so captivated. Its original members; John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel
Rosetti s work became heavily influential after great opposition at the beginning, and a second
phase of the movement occurred at around 1860 with particular works ¬¬¬¬majorly
influencing the succeeding Symbolism movement.
After a 1984 exhibition of the Pre Raphaelite s works at the Tate Gallery, a shift in the interpretation
of their work took place. Instead, analysis grew upon the subject of gender and sexuality when it
came to light the relationships between the artistic work and the circumstances of its creation.

1909, Picasso and Braque began a more systematic study of structure, which we know as Analytical
Cubism . In this period, they removed bright colors from their compositions, favouring
monochromatic earth tones so that they could focus on the structure. The paintings of this period
look as if they have deconstructed objects and rearranged them on the canvas. One goal of this is to
depict different viewpoints all at once. After the artists had grown tired of the Analytical period,
they began to develop what is known as the Synthetic period. Picasso and Braque continue to

Within his complexity came out a brilliant artist that was widely considered the most influential
painter of the 20th century. Pollock began to study painting in 1929 at the Art Students League,
in New York, under the Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton. During the 1930s he was being
influenced also by the Mexican muralist painters and by certain aspects of Surrealism. By the
mid 1940s he was painting in a completely abstract manner, and the `drip and splash style for
which he is best known emerged with some abruptness in 1947. Instead of using the traditional
easel he moved his canvas to the floor and poured and dripped his paint from a can; instead of
using brushes he manipulated it with `sticks, trowels or knives sometimes he would use a mixture
of `sand, broken glass or other foreign matter . This manner of Action painting was common with
Surrealist theories of automatism. Clement Greenberg emerged on the American art scene at a
time when it was still relatively small and critics belonged to the insular world of the artists
themselves. Among them was an obscure painter named Jackson Pollock, who was earning very
little money. Clement Greenberg, was the art critic who propelled the career of Jackson Pollock
and helped to establish Abstract Expressionism as a major artistic movement Greenberg began to

Compare And Contrast The Apology And Plato s Apology
In the year 399 B.C., Socrates was put to trial for impiety and corrupting the youth. During the
trial, Socrates had to deliver his defense speech, called an apology, which derives from the Greek
word apologia which means to speak in one s defense . There are two accounts of Socrates apology;
Plato s and Xenophons. The main difference between the two accounts is that Platowas present
during the trail and paraphrased what was said. Xenophon, on the other hand, was not present but
instead based his on Hermogenes reports before, during, and after the trail. Although both show
Socratesto be incredibly pious, just, and accepting of death, they have many differences.
Both versions of The Apology show different viewpoints Socrates had. For example, in the
beginning of Plato s Apology, Socrates hopes that he can be acquitted but he doesn t expect it to
happen. However, in Xenophon s Apology, Socrates doesn t necessarily want to be acquitted.
Before the trial, Hermogenes asks Socrates if he has practiced his defense and he replies by
saying that his divine sign has prevented him from doing so. Socrates goes on to explain that he
believes the gods have written this trial and his execution into his fate to spare him the frailties
that come with old age. This belief also shows a difference in Socrates view of the gods between
the two apologies. In Plato s Apology, Socrates suggests that the gods are pure beings that would
never commit injustice and frowns upon those

Financial Statement For A Company s Core Business
1. by having a Good Operating Margin which is a margin ratio used in measuring a company s
pricing strategy and operating efficiency. Thus the operating margin. Measures your operating
profitability, it indicates how much of each dollar of revenues used is left over after both costs
of goods sold and operating expenses are considered. Operating margins are important because
they measure efficiency. The higher the operating margin, the more profitable a company s core
business is. for example I Created a Mock report Called Dean s Report I report the following
Numbers on my Financial statement for my Event I held.
Net Sales: $1,000,000
Cost of Goods Sold: $700,000
Rent: $20,000
Wages: $100,000
Other Operating Expenses: $50,000
Net sales all operating expenses = 530,000
Then Create a Formula Similar to this
Operating margin .53 = 530,000 operating income______________________Net sales 1,000,000
As you can see, Dean s operating income is $530,000 (Net sales all operating expenses). According
to the formula used, Dean s operating margin is .53. This means that 57 cents on every dollar of
sales is used to pay for variable costs. Only 53 cents remains to cover all non operating expenses or
fixed costs.
2. Working Capital Ratio

At the first read, Durant simply putting his watch and ring on the dashboard of the downed

While he himself could not explain why he took off his watch and ring, I think it was because it
was symbolic of him giving up in a sense. Not necessarily in a life and death way, but as in
accepting the situation and simply allowing the fact that the helicopter just crashed settle in his

Corporate Tax And Corporate Income Tax
Introduction I believe that there should be corporate income tax, as it acts as a user fee for the
special privileges (Rosen, Ch 19) corporations receive. The corporate income tax is a separate tax
on corporate income, in which varies in a bracket between ten percent and thirty five percent. The
effective corporate income taxrate is estimated at thirty two percent, and eighteen percent for non
corporations. Workers compensation, labor expenses, interest payments, and depreciation are tax

How Technology Can Define Ethical Standards and Cultures
How Companies Use Technology to Set and Manage Ethical Standards
Introduction
The agility and resilient nature of any organization is highly dependent on how effective it is in
using technologies to implement, continually manage and reinforce ethical standards throughout
the many departments and functional areas of a their business. The greater the level of compliance
to ethical standards, the more cost efficient it is for organizations to meet legally defined
compliance requirements as well. Using IT to align an organization to its compliance mandates
through the use of ethics based management can deliver significantly greater profitability over the
long term. The goal of this analysis is to analyze the approaches organizations are using to combine
leadership strategies and technologies to create highly effective organizational cultures. How
technologies are used has a significant effect on the ethical foundation, expectations and cultures of
an organization. Not only do they amplify a leader s key insights and thoughts, they also create the
means by which employees can communicate, collaborate and define a culture of high ethical
standards and conduct or not. Leadership will determine which direction an organization will go on
this continuum ethics and technology.
The Impact of Technologies on Managing Ethical Standards Guidelines

The Effects Of Alcohol And Alcoholism On The United Kingdom
Alcohol is defined by Wester Dictionary as a drink (as whiskey or beer) containing ethanol.
Alcoholism is defined by the medical dictionary as a chronic progressive potentially fatal
psychological and nutritional disorder associated with excessive and usually compulsive drinking
of ethanol and characterized by frequent intoxication leading to dependence on or addiction to the
substance, impairment of the ability to work and socialize, destructive behaviors (as drunken
driving), tissue damage (as cirrhosis of the liver), and severe withdrawal symptoms upon
detoxification. Drinking alcoholhas been around since man was able to crush grapes. As the United

A brief history about both the countries and drinking habits:
Several Native American civilizations developed alcoholic beverages in pre Columbian times. A
variety of fermented beverages from the Andes region of South America were created from corn,
grapes or apples, called chichi, written in an article by Drug Free World organization (A Drug Free
World, P.1). From the beginning of America there has always been alcohol/alcoholism
. Drinking
also has shaped the land in the 1700s and 1800s. Most areas of social life was at the gin mill or
tavern. Experts say that the Revolution from England beginnings started in a tavern. Then The
nineteenth century brought a change in attitudes and the temperance movement began promoting
the moderate use of alcohol which ultimately became a push for total prohibition, said Drug Free
World (A Drug Free World, P.1). Today alcohol is widely accepted as well as demonized at the
same time for those who drink it before the legal age.
The U.K. has a vast history of drinking from Medieval times to the present. Most notably were
these events... By the end of the middle ages, most European nations had developed their own
distinctive brewing and distilling styles. Throughout this period up until the 17th century, alcohol
was still widely praised, especially by the Church, which was at that time the arbiter of morality.

A Model Of Sustained Economic Growth
WRITE UP(DRAFT)
The intention is to develop a model where sustained economic growth is the product of the
alternation of numerous agents and this literature will provide insights to reasons for variations in
Gdp growth during the recessionary period(2008 2013) in Europe while investigating the
optimising agents which had significant impact on Gdp growth rate. The Solow growth(1956)
hypothesis looked for the determinants of sustainable economic development in per capita gross
domestic product. The model recognized three principal drivers of long term development ie:
Increase in collection of capital stock, Technological Innovation and rise in quality of labour force

Advocates of Agricultural led development argue that investment in agriculture and the
complementary growth in the creation of structures and foundations in various zones is vital for
national economic advancement (Schultz, 1964; Timmer, 1995, 2002). These investigators observe
that improvement in the cultivating division could be a stimulus for growth in national output by
its effect on rural wages and acquirement of benefits for change into an industrialized economy (
Dowrick and Gemmell, 1991; Datt, and Ravallion, 1998; Thirtle, Lin, and Piesse, 2003). Earlier
endeavors by different developing countries to industrialize their economy without earlier
advancement of the farming part brought about bleak financial development rates and exceptionally
skewed wage dispersion (Bhagwati and Srinivasan, 1975).
Manufacturing growth:
The manufacturing sector assumes a vital part of financial development in both developed and
developing nations(Adugna, 2014). there is a solid causal connection between the development of

connection between the manufacturing growth and gdp growth is referred to as Kaldor s first

qualities which make it the motor of economic development for two principle reasons. Firstly,

The Hollow Men Analysis
T.S. Eliot is the greatest poet of the modernism era. Every piece of poetry he published was
highly critiqued and at first not excepted. In the later days of his work as a poet he became more
and more appreciated. It is very rare that the works of a poet will be so long lasting that they stay
for such an extended period of time. The works by Eliot are often referred to as revolutionary.
James Meredith, a biographer wrote about Eliot explaining, Never compromising either with the
public or indeed with language itself, he has followed his belief that poetryshould aim at a
representation of the complexities of modern civilization in language and that such representation
necessarily leads to difficult poetry. The Hollow Menwritten by T.S. Eliot it explains three
different messages including the fact that everyone is empty and full at the same time, people no
longer have religion, and people see the words but don t appreciate the meaning. The Hollow
Men, T.S. explains the message of being full and empty at the same time. When a person says
they are empty it most often means that they are depressed or unhappy with life although they
may have all the things in the world. For example a millionaire can buy all the things in the world
they would like, but still may not be truly happy. Happiness come from experiencing things with
loved ones. Jeff Haden, a psychological professor explains, Several studies have found that time
spent with friends and family makes a big difference

Procedure
The growth of Microsoft has negatively influenced the freedom of the employees. The introduction
of regulation has increased bureaucracy. Microsoft scores high on checking, documentation,
measurement and rationalization. The desired culture would be to score lower on procedure to
enhance creativity and flexibility.
How does it fit with the strategy and culture?
The strategy of Microsoft is to have a computer on every desk installed with Microsoft. A high
performance culture plays a key role in Microsoft. In this culture excellent performance, knowledge,
commitment, motivation, autonomy, teamwork and loyalty are only a few of the important norms,
values, habits and routines important when desiring and maintaining a high performance culture.
Mutual investment should keep employers and employees happy and help maintain the
environment and culture Microsoft is in.
There are four major culture types within an organization, namely the Clan, Adhocracy, Hierarchy
and the Market (Kim amp; Quinn, 1999). These four cultures are translated into a model, named the
Competing Values Framework. This framework shows the cultures, organized between two
dimensions. The framework shows which culture coincides with which dimension, to show the

The book Through It All is a novel written by a Caribbean author named Giselle Mills. The book
is based on the life of a Caribbean family. The family resides in the Caribbean island of Nevis.
The characters in the book face various situations and events that leave major impacts on their

Marriage Is Not Like A Fairytale
To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in
sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God s holy
ordinance; and thereto I pledge thee my faith to you. These are what we usually hear in
weddings when couples make commitments. However, these vows made are easier said than
done. Marriage is not like a fairytale, which always has a happy ending. In fact, many couples
have ended up divorced. Some people who get divorced may say that it s the best to live their life
separately from their former partner. But their children, unfortunately, become the victims of this
decision. As children of divorced parents grow, they will develop negative emotions and behaviors.
Often these children will perform poorly in school, have bad attitudes, and suffer from poor health.
The best way to help these children overcome the effect of their parents divorceis through the state
and school.
An article published in New York Times in 1920 defined divorce as the legal separation of a
husband and a wife that is made effective by the judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction,
where the marriage is dissolved. Divorce is distinct from marital separation in that separation of
two spouses is not necessarily permanent ( Divorces Increase ). Nobody goes into a marriage
with the end goal being a divorce. There are many people who have tried various ways to reduce
the divorce rate; however, these solutions are

Since I have started studying sociology I have been able to constantly compare it to my life and
how it relates to the struggles I am currently facing. Out of all the chapters I have studied in this
class this semester, chapter five stuck with me the most. Chapter five focuses on social positions
and our interactions with other people along with the different types of statuses a person can

Achieved status is a status that is assigned to a person who works towards becoming that status. In
my life I have worked towards becoming a student at OSU Newark, becoming a friend to numerous
people, becoming a girlfriend, and becoming an employee at Dollar General. Ascribed status is a
status that people are born with such as for me in particular, I am born as a female, a daughter, a
granddaughter, a niece, a cousin, and a sister. Depending on the situation any of these statuses
could be considered my master status. At school my master status is student whereas at work
my master status is employee. With all these statuses come various roles. Roles are expected
behaviors based on your status. In my life I struggle with not only role strain but also role
conflict. Role strain is when a person has multiple roles that conflict with each other for a single
status whereas role conflict is when a person has multiple roles that conflict for multiple
statuses. I have found that some of my expected roles can make it very difficult to fulfil other
expected roles. Such as, my role as a student consists of attending classes, doing homework, and
studying but, as an employee I am also expected to have open availability, not to call off, and
over all put work before anything else. Since I have become a student it has been hard to find a
way to make time for all of the things that are expected of me. Sociology has given me the tools to

It is true, perhaps, that women are the subset of humanity whose rights had been the longest
stripped of them, and who had been abused the worst and for the longest time. Even today, many
people believe that women still do not have the equality that ought to be afforded them. Since
women first started making steps to approach that ideal equality, they have used various means,
including literature, to further their cause. Both Mary Prince s The History of Mary Prince, as well

Another way that Prince establishes a sympathetic connection with her readers is by drawing
parallels between her and The Messiah. At one point, Prince states, I was soon surrounded by
strange men, who examined and handled me in the same manner that a butcher would a calf or a
lamb he was about to purchase (7). Here, she compares herself to a lamb; which is an animal that
Jesus was often compared, and is even directly called the Lamb of God. In the story of the
Christian faith, there is not a single person more righteous than Jesus of Nazareth. Therefore, in
creating a near subconscious comparison between him and her, as well as putting herself in
contrast to the wicked, she establishes in the mind of the reader her position as the redeemed in the
eyes of the reader.
Like Prince, who creates negative imagery to establish her position as a righteous figure,
Emecheta also uses subconscious Christian rhetoric in order to stimulate a positive association
towards her in an audience composed mostly of Christians. She does this in order to create an
empathic connection between her and the reader. At one point, Emecheta says, all the passengers

Lab Report On Redox Titration
Redox Titration
Carmen Ontiveros* Arlette Renteria .
CHEM 1A Lab, Department of Chemistry, California State University, Fresno, CA 93740
Carmenchick@mail.fresnostate.edu
September 23, 2017
The purpose of this experiment was to determine how much KMnO4 was needed to titrate
approximately 1 mL of an Unknow X101 concentrated solution of Oxalic Acid. A standardized
KMnO4 solution was used on a known solution of Oxalic acid to help determine the unknown
percent oxalic acid in unknown X101. The unknown sample for this experiment was sample x101
which theoretically was a % Oxalic Acid dehydrate sample but, the average of all three trials
determined it to be a 6.7% percent Oxalic acid.
Introduction
In this experiment, a redox reaction occurred. An oxidation reduction reaction (redox) is a type of
chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons between two solutions. The chemical being
oxidized is losing electrons and the chemical being reduced is gaining electrons. In this case
KMnO4 is losing electrons and Oxalic Acid is gaining electrons. KMnO4 can titrate a or reduce
Oxalic acid. Titration is the technique used to find the unknown concentration of one solution based
on the concentration of a known solution. In equation 2, the molar relationship between the 2 is
shown, it is 2 KMnO4 to 5 Oxalic Acid. The molar ratio relationship is useful because it shows
how much of a certain product is needed to help a reaction occur and which chemical is limiting
reagent. The experiment was started by preparing a titrating strength KMnO4 solution from stock
to a less concentrated KMnO4. Equation one shows how this was done. The KMnO4 needed to
be diluted, if it had not been diluted, then it would be way too hard to get an accurate reading of
the Oxalic Acid used. Without being diluted the Oxalic Acid would be strong. The next step was
to standardize the KMnO4 solution. It was calculated that 37.5 mL of Oxalic Acid could titrate 15
mL of KMnO4. To determine the exact molarity of a solution a standardization needs to happen. In
this experiment the standardization found how much Oxalic acid was needed. Through the
controlled variable, the fact that 37.5 Oxalic acid could be titrated by 15 mL of KMnO4, the
percent of the

Essay on Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt
After the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt inherited a growing empire

Essay on Stefan Sagmeister, an Influential Designer
Libby Castellani Holly Vaughn GRA 1109C 17 October 2012 Stefan Sagmeister: An Influential
Designer In today s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from
commercial art. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in
communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from
commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. Stefan
Sagmeister bridges the gap in the art industry by redefining commercial design as a personal,
emotional, and deep art. While Sagmeister s work encompasses a vast spectrum of mediums such
as, album covers, logos, installations, and posters it is his philosophy on design that... Show more

The poster displays the midsection of Sagmeister s nude body, stretching from the top of his lip
all the way down to where his pubic hair begins. The audacity of his brazen body is accompanied
by harsh lettering that has literally been carved into his skin by his intern with a razorblade
(Heller amp; Vienne, 10). While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock
value, Sagmeister s self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with
tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as
well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy,
which he has now put to rest, translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion
statements or trends; design that is defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom).
Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I
discovered that this is simply not true.
Through experience I found that if you have content that
is
worthwhile the proper expression of that content, in terms of
 form and style is actually
very important. It can be a very
useful tool to communicate that content (Designboom). Stefan
Sagmeister also has two published books under his design belt (Sagmeister). Made You Look,
Sagmeister s first book was published in 2001

St. Thomas Aquinas Cosmological Argument
Catholic Church:
St. Thomas Aquinas (Cosmological Argument)
In St. Thomas Aquinas s cosmological argument claims the following that the universe exist and its
very existence has a cause and that cause is God. In his unfinished book Summa Theologiae,
Aquinas put forward five ways for the existence of God.
His first way is the argument from motion and by studying the works of Aristotle, the Greek
Philosopher, he concluded from common observation that the planets, rolling stone or any object
that is in motion is put in motion by other forces or object. From this theory, Aquinas believes there
must have been an unmoved mover which is God who sets things in motion. It is certain and
evident that in the world some things are set in motion. Whatever is in motion is put in motion by
another. Therefore, by which it is put in motion must also be put in motion by another and by
another again but this cannot go for infinity because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final way that St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of has to do with the universe and the order of
nature. Aquinas states that common sense tells us that the universe works in such a way, that one
can conclude that it was designed by an intelligent designer. In other words, all physical laws and
the order of nature and life were designed and ordered by God. Because whatever lacks in
intelligence cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being with knowledge and
intelligence. Some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end, and
this being we call God. This argument by Aquinas is suggesting that inanimate objects such as the
planets could not have placed themselves into the orbits they have, because they lack the
intelligence to do so. Yet they are aligned so perfectly, this must mean it must have been done so by
a being with the intelligence to do so. Although we humans are intelligent, we cannot move planets,
so that leaves us with

African Elephants ( Loxadonta Africana ) And Amur Tigers
African elephants (Loxadonta africana) and amur tigers (Panthera tigris altaica), despite being
classed as mammals they show a great diversity, one is a carnivore and one is a herbivore.
Whether in the wild or held in captivity, African elephants and tigers (like all animals) are
susceptible to certain diseases, these diseases can either be bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic.
Having the knowledge when an animal is in good and poor health is vital. To ensure an animal is
in good health the animal needs to be in good body condition, good appetite and is relaxed. If an
elephantapproaches you with almost half closed, lazy eyes and its tail is slowly swishing from side
to side, it is a good sign that it is relaxed (Londolozi, 2016). For a tiger, it will squint or close its
eyes; this is because loosing vision lowers defence. The animals eyes are to be clear and bright,
skin is to be soft and resilient, healthy soles and claws. However, when animals suffer from poor
health, some common clinical signs to look for are, loss of appetite and weight loss. Depending
on the disease, as you get closer to the animal you will notice its eyes are very dull and the
mucous membranes may have changed colour. If in pain it will be restless and it might even be
groaning. Depending on the disease, the animal will scour or be constipated and the passing of
urine might also cease (ACS Distance Education, 2016).

In 2014 there were 24.2 births for every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15 19 or 249,078 born to
this age group. In 1991, the U.S. teen birth rate was 61.8 births for every 1,000 adolescent females,
compared with 24.2 births for every 1,000 adolescent females in 2014. Still, the U.S. teen birth rate
is higher than that of many other developed countries, including Canada and the United Kingdom.
us has one of the highest teen pregnancyrates in the world. There are a lot of teens pregnancy
based shows and movies such as teen mom, the secret life of the American teenager, 16 and
pregnant, for keeps and how to deal.Providing the morning after pill is almost as encouraging
them to have unprotected sex because they think the pill fix everything, this leads to an increase
of sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea, this can also affect their
education. Teen pregnancy causes may problems but providing the morning after pill as an over
the counter will only make it worse. About 20% of women in each group experienced headaches
following EC treatment, 13 14% experienced painful menstruation, and 11 12% experienced
nausea . If the pill is easily accessible the more teens are prone to engage in all kinds of sexual
activity. The pill itself can cause a lot of complications because our bodies and body types are

Homelessness In The United States Research Paper
Homelessness in the United States
The topic I have decided to focus Genius Hour on is how to solve the problem of homelessness
in the United States. More than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year. And in
2013, there was a high of 2.5 million homeless children. But why should people care? People
should care because if they ever went into foreclosure, they could be secure in knowing that they
would still have a place to stay in and would not be forced to go on the streets. A solution to
eliminating homelessness would be incorporating some socialism factors of government into our
federal government. I consider this a sensible solution because our federal government has a double
security system that prevents our government

Transcendentalism In La Ley Innata
In La ley Innata, or the Inborn Law by the Spanish rock band, Extremoduro, vocalist Roberto
Iniesta takes us on a journey of chaos, the external and internal aspects of ourselves, and
ultimately forms a poetic and musical masterpiece. Many of the songs on the album are difficult
to interpret, which, as a whole, ends up becoming a series of beautiful words that no one
understands. However, because of its mysterious nature, we look at it from all sorts of angles in an
attempt to decode as if it were some sort of puzzle. In one of the songs, Iniesta says he is looking
for [his] destiny, living a deferred life, without being, without hearing, without giving. I personally
think that these lines not only resonate with Thoreau s transcendentalism, and that humans thrive
from within, but also helps us look deep into what it means to be human and the kind of struggles
that we face because we often find ourselves clinging to our physicality, rather than our spirituality.
Furthermore, the fact that Iniesta is looking for a destiny even though he is living life without
being explains that it is his non physical aspect that is doing the work, not his actual physical body.
That being said, Mary Oliver, in Humpbacks helps us determine how and why our non physical
self gives us more answers to the bigger questions we encounter on a day to day basis and why our
physicality gets in the way.
As he looks down on society s structure, Thoreau mentions that the things which corrupt humans

The Normal Heart Rate Of A Daphnia Magna
Introduction The purpose of this lab was to determine the normal heart rate of a Daphnia Magna
and decipher the different effects that various substances had on it. A Daphnia Magna is a
species of water fleas and can be located in the Northern United Sates against the coastline of the
Atlantic in rocky pools. The water flea s habitat consists of rivers and streams, temporary pools,
lakes and ponds, and brackish water. The Daphnia Magna range from two to five millimeters in
length and are shaped like a kidney bean (Elenbaas, Molly). Relating to this lab experiment we
learned in class that the normal heart rateis measured anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per
minute (BPM). If your resting BPM is measured at a level above the number 100 it is known as
Tachycardia. This term indicates that your heart level has exceeded the normal range. Also if
your heart rate is indicated below 60 then it is called Bradycardia, which means the heart is
beating slower than normal. When your heart rate is affected by a substance in the body it is
called a Chronotropic agent. When the heart rate decreases because of a substance or chemical it
is called a negative Chronotropic and when it is affected oppositely by increasing it is known as a
positive Chronotropic agent. In this experiment we added many different substances to the slide on
which the water flea was placed to calculate the increase or decrease in its heart rate due to the
ingredients in the substances. The first substance used was

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers By Emily Dickinson And...
The word hope is often used in moments of despair, more precisely to lift people out of those
moments. For so many, hope is the light at the end of the tunnel, in the moments when it is hard
to get back up it is often this ambiguous term that helps them get up. Of course, all words take on
several meanings, and there are always different ways someone can interpret a word. However,
according to the Oxford Online Dictionary hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a
particular thing to happen (Oxford Dictionaries). More often than not, hope is a feeling rather than
something people express verbally. The poems Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson
and Dare I Hope? by Sophia White both address the term hope. Although... Show more content on

Both of the poems that I previously mentioned are focused around interpreting the term hope. As
seen in the paragraphs before, it is easy to interpret the word in different ways, and that is
precisely what these two poems are doing. Although both poems take their own approach to the
word hope and do not share the same structure, there are some consistencies between each author s
interpretation. Both the poems by Sophia White and Emily Dickinson are centered around hope,
however, the interpretations are very different, using symbols, metaphors and the structure of the
poem to get their points across. The poem Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson
begins its first two lines with a metaphor. That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the
words (2 3). These opening lines bring us into the rest of the poem where the author is describing
the word hope through the metaphor of a bird. Dickinson continues to use metaphors throughout
the poem. Later in the poem, she describes different aspects of hope. And sore must be the storm
/That could abash the little Bird/That kept so many warm (6 8). This section is referring to
difficult times, and telling us that hope does not falter when hardship comes. In this case, hardship
is the storm. She follows this by giving the reader a metaphor for where hope can be

Economic And Economic Effects Of The Social Revolution...
During the Industrial Revolution, the working class were working for about 16 hours a day
including children. This lead children and adults in bad terms. In other words, they were living in
urban areas and many diseases were spreading due to the fact that they wouldn t take good care of
themselves. The Industrial Revolutionbegan in Great Britain in the 18th Century because
Agricultural Revolution had more resources, Britain had resources, and Britain had wealth to
invest. The Industrial Revolution was rapid changes in how products were made and sold by using
machines in the late 1700s through the early 1900s. There were many economic and social effects
in the Industrial Revolution. The working class struggled a lot with money issues and they would
get sick often due to the poor working conditions. During the Industrial Revolution, the effects were
economic negative because the workers were getting treated unfairly. It was also negative social
because the working class were living in bad conditions.
Economically, the effects were negative in the Industrial Revolution because in factories many
workers such as adults and children were getting treated in a negative way.One example of a
negative economic effect of the Industrial Revolution can be found in Document # 3. The
document was created by William Cooper and Joseph Sadler who was a former factory worker the
British Parliament in London 1832. Since they were former factory workers they already had an
idea of the working conditions in factories. The document explains how workers were getting
mistreated in factories. This example shows the economic effects of the Industrial Revolution
were negative because child labors started at a young age and worked for about 16 hours a day.
They were only allowed to get a 40 minute break in all the 16 hours. This means that they wouldn
t eat very well and were getting paid very little since they were children. Working long hours was
making children very tired. This impact their lives in a negative way because they were so young
and were already suffering from working long hours. Another example can be found in the article
Inventions and new products. People that were working in factories were forced to work hard and

One thing need to be noticed is that the market share and attendances has drastically decreased
due to the criticism from media and public, regarding to their treatment to the animals and the
ethic of animal performance. (Rachel, M. 2015) Another two important competitors are Cedar
Fair LP and Six Flags with market share of 7.8% and 6.4% respectively. Cedar Fair is threatening
Disneyland with its relatively cheaper tickets, even affordable installment of annual pass. Cedar
Fair s this strategy is attractive to price sensitive customers and it is quite efficient, since its
shares quadrupled since 2009 to 2013. Six Flag is famous for two things, thrilling rides and injury
accidents. However, thrilling fans are crazy for their roller coast and contribute a large share of
revenue.

African Indentured Servants During Jamestown
The first twenty Africans to arrive in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619 were eventually traded by the
Dutch for food and supplies. A point worth noting, the first twenty Africans were not identified as
legal property(slave). The former Spanish owners had baptized and given each a Christian name.
In fact, Africans worked as indentured servants for a specified time because English law
disallowed the enslaving of Christians. Africans became landowners and were of equal standing
with the poor English Pilgrims. However, by 1640, Virginia court documents started displaying
verdicts for a life of servitude. These were verdicts given to runaway indentured servants. African
indentured servants to be exact. Between 1661 and 1662, a child s status in the colonial United
States depended on whether the mother was free or a slave.
Laws were passed that degraded blacks and forbid interracial marriage and sexual relations. Other
laws prohibited blacks from bearing arms, traveling without written permission and finally,
preventing blacks from owning property. In 1669, it was declared in Virginia that it would not be
a crime to kill a disobedient slave while punishing him/her. Moreover in 1669, slave masters were
banned from emancipating slaves. Slaves that were given their freedom could not stay in the
colony. Furthermore, Virginia voted to banish Europeans who marry a black, mulatto, or Indian
person. It can be concluded that these laws fashioned the chattel slavery in the United States

  • 2. An Analysis Of Gatsby And Quentin And The Great... Jay Gatsby and Quentin Compson come from noticeably different families, but they are similar in more ways than expected. Their similarities are worth examining, despite the few differences between the two, such as their personalities and upbringings. Gatsby and Quentin both have obsessions with the past, the women that they love, as well as a desire to solely possess these women. By considering these characters from Sound and the Fury and The Great Gatsbytogether, important life lessons can be learned. There is no way to recapture the past, despite the amount of effort that is exerted to do so and some dreams are not worth pursuing if they are impractical. Gatsby and Quentin are both similar in their obsession with the past. The first three sections of Sound and the Fury are set up to show that each character figuratively lives in a different time. Benjy sees everything as the present, Jason only focuses on the future, and Quentin lives in the past. He does not simply remember the past occasionally, but Quentin is unable to think about anything but the past. There are constant flashbacks throughout his section to memories of Caddy, his father, and fights. His grandfathers watch becomes a constant reminder of time because of the periodic ticking. Quentin explains, I went to the dresser and took up the watch, with the face still down. I tapped the crystal on the corner of the dresser and caught the fragments of glass in my hand and put them into the ashtray and twisted the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Wuthering Heights Controversy Emily Bronte started writing Wuthering Heights in December of 1847. She was born on July 30, 1818 in England. She live with her father, brother, and two sisters. She was not too fond of people. The alternative was her liking to animals as they do not judge nor cause pain, just love for their human counterpart. She was known for having the will of iron because anything that she sets her mind too gets done without hesitation. This can be seen in her writing as one of her characters in the book never gave up trying to get what he wants. One of her favorite pass times was cooking in the kitchen to get away from the moors. Also being stubborn has led to her death because she never wanted to go to the doctor or rest when she was ill. She died from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Majority of the people would get sick and die because of the lack of medicines and antibiotics. The characters would mostly die from being sick. This is an issue because kids would often be left alone without parents. Since the main character did not have any parents, he was raised cruelly. He was abused and mistreated by none relative and made him grow up to be a psychopath. The author did a great job on using symbols to help understand what the feeling and emotions are running through the characters minds. Many scenes were memorable. The first scene that caught my attention is the female and male first realize the love that they have for each other. The scene helped me understand what a nice moment it was for both of the characters. Heathcliff s love for Catherine is intense and he is very romantic and full of passion. She loves him as well and she considers themselves as one. She tells Nelly about this when she tells her about Edgar. When Catherine talks to Nelly about Edgar, they are in the kitchen. Cathy was sure that they were alone, and nobody was there to listen. She was wrong. Little did she know, Heathcliff overheard her tell Nelly that she cannot be with Heathcliff because Hindley has degraded him too much and that marrying him would degrade her. She proceeds to confess her love for Heathcliff to Nelly. Heathcliff leaves because he overheard what Cathy told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Period Of Unrest In Canada Essay The Period of Unrest in Canada After WWI The after effect of the war was not what the European and North American countries expected, the war concluded with Canadian citizens in a displeased and agitated state. The First World War was extremely significant to Canada because it was their first major battle in which they were triumphant and gained independence. However, the country did not foresee the difficulties that accompanied the war. As a result, the end of WWI led to a period of negative conditions in Canada due to the banning of alcohol, rising government debt, and increasing unemployment. Canadian soldiers consumed alcohol to intoxicate themselves, which allowed them to forget their issues and move on, however, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The war industries closing down led many men to unemployment, several undesirable conditions and post war labor unrest. A man who survived the great depression stated, As a young man, I lived through the Great Depression, when banks failed and so many lost their jobs and homes and went hungry. I was fortunate to have a job at a canning factory that paid 25 cents an hour (Faust James). This quote shows the atmosphere during the great depression with high rates of unemployment and bankruptcy. James Faust was grateful that he at least had a job that paid him 25 cents per hour, showing the requisite for men to provide for their families in any way possible. However, they were beginning to become restless about their conditions and started to act up against their government. On May 1919, the Winnipeg General strike took place, and was known as Canada s best known general strike. 30,000 workers left their jobs and began to demand 85 cents per hour, 8 hour workdays and the right to collectively bargain. The strike then ended on Bloody Saturday , when the government arrested the leaders of the strike and a riot formed in Winnipeg (Reilly Nolan). This was significant because of the attention that was drawn to the social and economic problems of the workers. Thus forth, the unemployment for men led to severe poverty and frustration that caused a period of unrest in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mrs Ford is vulnerable and will need restorative care. A vulnerable adult is defined as someone over the age of 18 who is not able to look after themselves or protect themselves from harm and might need help from care services (Lord Chancellors Department, 1997). Although DOH et al. (2009) state that there are people who want to change the term vulnerable adult to a person at risk. As stated by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (2006), Mrs Ford is a vulnerable adult because she is elderly, needs assistance and has a new disability. She is anxious and knowing that the nurses are treating her individually and with compassion will make her feel safer. Although she is vulnerable and at risk there is nothing to indicate that Mrs Ford does not have capacity. Mental capacity is assumed unless proven otherwise and patients should be able to make their own decision even if it is an unwise one (Mental Capacity Act, 2005). Therefore Mrs Ford can make informed decisions and consent to all aspects of her care. With Mrs Ford s consent, her family can be involved in her care and they may be able to assist with ... • 7. The Indigenous People Of California The indigenous people of California had existed on the lands as hunters gathers before the arrival of the Spanish who were the first Europeans to reach this part of the Americas. These settlers who began surveying the area since 1530, helped introduce the mission system around 1697 as part of an effort to set up permanent bases for new arrivals and as a bulwark against other European powers. This establishment caused the natives to transition from their original lifestyle into agrarian farmers to help bring in revenue for the Spanish crown which led to them being exploited economically in the process. To establish order in this new land, the Spaniards used harsh punishments for rooting out defiance within the Indian population. However, eventually the natives would begin to die off in such large quantities that it echoed what else was happening what was happening in the rest of the continent. Overall, the effect on the indigenous population was predominantly negative due to contributing towards loss of culture, experiencing callous treatment at the hands of the Spanish, and forced population decline. Native Americans lost their culture once the Spanish made them a part of the mission system. Before European arrival, they were predominantly pagan and had multiple gods or spirits which they worshipped as part of their rituals for successful harvest or hunt. Through the mission system, they underwent baptism through Catholicism and learned to worship only one supreme being and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was a day spent in a local primary school teaching them about DNA and Forensic science. The Inspire Science program involved having weekly basis school meetings in the science labs. I attended each week working on preparing for science related activities such as making DNA, chromosomes from strawberries and creating a DNA model. The class was split into groups of 8 each group assigned to a classroom for the day. Furthermore splitting into pairs to work with a group of 6 children. I lead my group teaching them interesting facts about science and how science is involved in everyday life. I monitored my group as we worked on a forensic worksheet, DNA booklet and DNA/ dry ice experiments. This activity increased my confidence in teaching others and being able to involve myself in a community activity. I participate in school clubs such as Amnesty and Girl s Club, which are social justice clubs in my school. But due to lack of historical argument, the role of social media and an importance of the Green Movement has largely underestimated. This study claims that if people in 2009 used their cellphone or other social media such as Facebook or Twitter, today they are seeking for other realms of discussion and a day before 2009 were using blogs to declare their messages to the regime. Then if we see this movement as an ongoing democratic process which has been entrenched by newspapers, social media, blogs or SMS, then it s quite difficult to label a movement as a failed or unsuccessful one. The green Movement in Iran One of the key sources is The Green Movement in Iran , which has written by Ali Dabashi (2011). He has a historical view towards the topic and in the preface of his book, he refers to the green movement as a civic movement rather than a revolutionary act. He also explained how the Green Movement exists and grows over the course of time through different chapters of book. Dabashi used a chronological method in which mentions to different approaches and events. He also compares the Green Movement with Islamic revolution in 1979. Like everything else in life, my decision was gradual and time consuming. However, being involved in the medical field was always something that I longed to do. Most other kids want to be a firefighter, police man, or President of the United States. For me I always knew that my heart belonged in the hospital. It all started in the 4th grade. That s when I knew that being in the medical field is what I ve always wanted to do. This day, my 4th grade teacher gave us an assignment while learning science. We were specifically learning about the heart and it s 4 chambers. This subject, I remember, was so captivating and fascinating for me. I soaked in all the information I got from this class extremely easily. It was unlike any of the other classes that I have taken thus far. Math, literature and history were not subjects that I thought were very interesting for me but science was something that I especially excelled in. As the years went by I learned that I was especially had an interest in forensics. The ability to see the open body one on one in the fashion that forensics get to have contact with a body was more than interesting for me. So at the age of 12, I decided that forensics was what I was gonna put my mind to. The first thing I did was let my mother know that I finally have an idea of where I was going with my life. Unfortunately, she completely disliked the idea of me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The differing benchmarks mean that each ETF is invested in different sectors and firms and these strategies lead to varying performance. RDV RDV matches the Russell Australia High Dividend Index; its investments are primarily in large, well established firms such as financials and property trusts (highest of the four ETFs). These limits are the highest of the four funds and therefore VHY sees large investment in large cap value stock on the ASX that have a historically strong dividend payout. 2) The proxy for all ETF analysis is the ASX300 due to ease of information availability. Ideally, individual benchmarks would also be used to identify the effectiveness of managers in matching their desired indices. However, using the market portfolio does allow better comparison of performance individual ETFs against each other relative to the market (Henriksson 1984) and makes analysis under CAPM, Single Index Model and related measures more accurate. Furthermore, the R Squared is high for all stocks against the ASX300 indicating a robust relationship. Comparing the four ETFs, the fund with the highest monthly excess return, on the risk free rate, is VHY (0.024%). Clearly this is not risk adjusted and consequently the reward to variability ratio (Sharpe 1964) is utilised to quantitatively measure return for each ETF relative to the total risk it exposes investors to. It works as a commemoration for social and personally expressive. During the 20 centuries, many people who died of AIDS related causes did not have funerals since the surviving family members felt social imputation of AIDS, and many funeral homes or cemeteries refused to accept the deceased s remains. This social phenomenon made AIDS activist, Cleve Jones, have an idea for the AIDS Memorial Quilt. In the candlelight March in1985, Jones asked people to write the names of their family members who were killed by the AIDS related causes on signs. Then he was inspired by the signs that were taped on the San Francisco Federal Building. To Jones, all the signs looked like a huge patchwork quilt. In 1987, Cleve Jones, Mike Smith, and volunteers first started the NAMES project in San Francisco. The goal of the Quilt is to bring awareness to how massive the AIDS pandemic really is, and to bring support and healing to those affected by it. Other inspirations came from art critic John Ruskin s encouragement to go to nature , believing art to be a serious subject that should be treated with maximum realism and truth. The principal philosophies of their movement were primarily religious, but would often draw inspiration from texts and literature, particularly those associated with death and love. In their paintings, the Brotherhood created an entirely new manner of presenting human anatomy by imbuing their depictions of men and women with medieval and spiritual ideas in which they were so captivated. Its original members; John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rosetti s work became heavily influential after great opposition at the beginning, and a second phase of the movement occurred at around 1860 with particular works ¬¬¬¬majorly influencing the succeeding Symbolism movement. • 17. Compare And Contrast The Apology And Plato s Apology In the year 399 B.C., Socrates was put to trial for impiety and corrupting the youth. During the trial, Socrates had to deliver his defense speech, called an apology, which derives from the Greek word apologia which means to speak in one s defense . There are two accounts of Socrates apology; Plato s and Xenophons. The main difference between the two accounts is that Platowas present during the trail and paraphrased what was said. Xenophon, on the other hand, was not present but instead based his on Hermogenes reports before, during, and after the trail. Although both show Socratesto be incredibly pious, just, and accepting of death, they have many differences. Both versions of The Apology show different viewpoints Socrates had. For example, in the beginning of Plato s Apology, Socrates hopes that he can be acquitted but he doesn t expect it to happen. However, in Xenophon s Apology, Socrates doesn t necessarily want to be acquitted. Before the trial, Hermogenes asks Socrates if he has practiced his defense and he replies by saying that his divine sign has prevented him from doing so. Socrates goes on to explain that he believes the gods have written this trial and his execution into his fate to spare him the frailties that come with old age. This belief also shows a difference in Socrates view of the gods between the two apologies. • 20. Corporate Tax And Corporate Income Tax Introduction I believe that there should be corporate income tax, as it acts as a user fee for the special privileges (Rosen, Ch 19) corporations receive. The corporate income tax is a separate tax on corporate income, in which varies in a bracket between ten percent and thirty five percent. The effective corporate income taxrate is estimated at thirty two percent, and eighteen percent for non corporations. Workers compensation, labor expenses, interest payments, and depreciation are tax deductible from taxable income. Since corporations sell stock to stockholders, those stockholders purchased a certain percentage of the corporation. In turn, purchasing a portion of the corporate liability. If a stockholder accumulates income within the corporation in which he holds stock shares, he reduces his tax liability. Although the shareholder s additional income would eventually be taxed, his stock will grow at the before tax rate of interest. This benefits the corporation and the shareholders, as neither party holds the entire liability, nor do the shareholders pay debt if the corporation is not generating profit. Corporate income taxalso preserves the integrity of personal income tax. In the later days of his work as a poet he became more and more appreciated. It is very rare that the works of a poet will be so long lasting that they stay for such an extended period of time. The works by Eliot are often referred to as revolutionary. Notes On Roles And Statuses Ashley Newlon | Sociology 1101 | Final Paper | Autumn 2015 Roles and Statuses Since I have started studying sociology I have been able to constantly compare it to my life and how it relates to the struggles I am currently facing. Out of all the chapters I have studied in this class this semester, chapter five stuck with me the most. Chapter five focuses on social positions and our interactions with other people along with the different types of statuses a person can behold or gain and the roles that come along with them. I have learned about all of the different sets of statuses, for example, the statuses one can achieve, the ones someone can be ascribed, and/or the master status that someone can be known for most. In my life I have worked towards becoming a student at OSU Newark, becoming a friend to numerous people, becoming a girlfriend, and becoming an employee at Dollar General. Ascribed status is a status that people are born with such as for me in particular, I am born as a female, a daughter, a granddaughter, a niece, a cousin, and a sister. Depending on the situation any of these statuses could be considered my master status. At school my master status is student whereas at work my master status is employee. With all these statuses come various roles. Roles are expected behaviors based on your status. In my life I struggle with not only role strain but also role conflict. Role strain is when a person has multiple roles that conflict with each other for a single status whereas role conflict is when a person has multiple roles that conflict for multiple statuses. I have found that some of my expected roles can make it very difficult to fulfil other expected roles. Such as, my role as a student consists of attending classes, doing homework, and studying but, as an employee I am also expected to have open availability, not to call off, and over all put work before anything else. Since I have become a student it has been hard to find a way to make time for all of the things that are expected of me. Christian Rhetoric in Mary Prince s The History of Mary Prince, and Buchi Emecheta s Second Class Citizen It is true, perhaps, that women are the subset of humanity whose rights had been the longest stripped of them, and who had been abused the worst and for the longest time. Even today, many people believe that women still do not have the equality that ought to be afforded them. Since women first started making steps to approach that ideal equality, they have used various means, including literature, to further their cause. Here, she compares herself to a lamb; which is an animal that Jesus was often compared, and is even directly called the Lamb of God. In the story of the Christian faith, there is not a single person more righteous than Jesus of Nazareth. Therefore, in creating a near subconscious comparison between him and her, as well as putting herself in contrast to the wicked, she establishes in the mind of the reader her position as the redeemed in the eyes of the reader. Like Prince, who creates negative imagery to establish her position as a righteous figure, Emecheta also uses subconscious Christian rhetoric in order to stimulate a positive association towards her in an audience composed mostly of Christians. She does this in order to create an empathic connection between her and the reader. CHEM 1A Lab, Department of Chemistry, California State University, Fresno, CA 93740 Carmenchick@mail.fresnostate.edu September 23, 2017 The purpose of this experiment was to determine how much KMnO4 was needed to titrate approximately 1 mL of an Unknow X101 concentrated solution of Oxalic Acid. A standardized KMnO4 solution was used on a known solution of Oxalic acid to help determine the unknown percent oxalic acid in unknown X101. The unknown sample for this experiment was sample x101 which theoretically was a % Oxalic Acid dehydrate sample but, the average of all three trials determined it to be a 6.7% percent Oxalic acid. Introduction In this experiment, a redox reaction occurred. An oxidation reduction reaction (redox) is a type of chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons between two solutions. The chemical being oxidized is losing electrons and the chemical being reduced is gaining electrons. In this case KMnO4 is losing electrons and Oxalic Acid is gaining electrons. KMnO4 can titrate a or reduce Oxalic acid. Titration is the technique used to find the unknown concentration of one solution based on the concentration of a known solution. In equation 2, the molar relationship between the 2 is shown, it is 2 KMnO4 to 5 Oxalic Acid. The molar ratio relationship is useful because it shows how much of a certain product is needed to help a reaction occur and which chemical is limiting reagent. The experiment was started by preparing a titrating strength KMnO4 solution from stock to a less concentrated KMnO4. Equation one shows how this was done. The KMnO4 needed to be diluted, if it had not been diluted, then it would be way too hard to get an accurate reading of the Oxalic Acid used. Without being diluted the Oxalic Acid would be strong. The next step was to standardize the KMnO4 solution. It was calculated that 37.5 mL of Oxalic Acid could titrate 15 mL of KMnO4. To determine the exact molarity of a solution a standardization needs to happen. In this experiment the standardization found how much Oxalic acid was needed. Through the controlled variable, the fact that 37.5 Oxalic acid could be titrated by 15 mL of KMnO4, the percent of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on Stefan Sagmeister, an Influential Designer Libby Castellani Holly Vaughn GRA 1109C 17 October 2012 Stefan Sagmeister: An Influential Designer In today s art world there seems to be a large gap that separates fine art from commercial art. Often there is a disconnected coldness associated with those who work in communications art and produce art for clients. As if all emotion and feeling is stripped from commercial artwork merely because it was created with the intention of pleasing a client. While the broad reception to this poster can be attributed to its shock value, Sagmeister s self mutilation was a commentary on the absurdity of inking the body with tattoos (Heller amp; Vienne, 10). The scratches in his body display the details of the lecture as well as Sagmeister s words pertaining to his philosophy on design, Style=Fart. This philosophy, which he has now put to rest, translates as his conscious effort to not get wrapped up in fashion statements or trends; design that is defined by a temporary style is meaningless (Designboom). Sagmeister explains why he relinquished the philosophy in an interview with Designboom: I discovered that this is simply not true.
Through experience I found that if you have content that is
worthwhile the proper expression of that content, in terms of

St. Thomas Aquinas Cosmological Argument Catholic Church: St. Thomas Aquinas (Cosmological Argument) In St. Thomas Aquinas s cosmological argument claims the following that the universe exist and its very existence has a cause and that cause is God. In his unfinished book Summa Theologiae, Aquinas put forward five ways for the existence of God. His first way is the argument from motion and by studying the works of Aristotle, the Greek Philosopher, he concluded from common observation that the planets, rolling stone or any object that is in motion is put in motion by other forces or object. From this theory, Aquinas believes there must have been an unmoved mover which is God who sets things in motion. It is certain and evident that in the world some things are set in motion. Whatever is in motion is put in motion by another. Therefore, by which it is put in motion must also be put in motion by another and by another again but this cannot go for infinity because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final way that St. Thomas Aquinas speaks of has to do with the universe and the order of nature. Aquinas states that common sense tells us that the universe works in such a way, that one can conclude that it was designed by an intelligent designer. In other words, all physical laws and the order of nature and life were designed and ordered by God. Because whatever lacks in intelligence cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being with knowledge and intelligence. Some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end, and this being we call God. This argument by Aquinas is suggesting that inanimate objects such as the planets could not have placed themselves into the orbits they have, because they lack the intelligence to do so. Yet they are aligned so perfectly, this must mean it must have been done so by a being with the intelligence to do so. Transcendentalism In La Ley Innata In La ley Innata, or the Inborn Law by the Spanish rock band, Extremoduro, vocalist Roberto Iniesta takes us on a journey of chaos, the external and internal aspects of ourselves, and ultimately forms a poetic and musical masterpiece. Many of the songs on the album are difficult to interpret, which, as a whole, ends up becoming a series of beautiful words that no one understands. However, because of its mysterious nature, we look at it from all sorts of angles in an attempt to decode as if it were some sort of puzzle. In one of the songs, Iniesta says he is looking for [his] destiny, living a deferred life, without being, without hearing, without giving. I personally think that these lines not only resonate with Thoreau s transcendentalism, and that humans thrive from within, but also helps us look deep into what it means to be human and the kind of struggles that we face because we often find ourselves clinging to our physicality, rather than our spirituality. Furthermore, the fact that Iniesta is looking for a destiny even though he is living life without being explains that it is his non physical aspect that is doing the work, not his actual physical body. That being said, Mary Oliver, in Humpbacks helps us determine how and why our non physical self gives us more answers to the bigger questions we encounter on a day to day basis and why our physicality gets in the way. • 47. The Normal Heart Rate Of A Daphnia Magna Introduction The purpose of this lab was to determine the normal heart rate of a Daphnia Magna and decipher the different effects that various substances had on it. A Daphnia Magna is a species of water fleas and can be located in the Northern United Sates against the coastline of the Atlantic in rocky pools. The water flea s habitat consists of rivers and streams, temporary pools, lakes and ponds, and brackish water. The Daphnia Magna range from two to five millimeters in length and are shaped like a kidney bean (Elenbaas, Molly). Relating to this lab experiment we learned in class that the normal heart rateis measured anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute (BPM). If your resting BPM is measured at a level above the number 100 it is known as Tachycardia. This term indicates that your heart level has exceeded the normal range. Also if your heart rate is indicated below 60 then it is called Bradycardia, which means the heart is beating slower than normal. When your heart rate is affected by a substance in the body it is called a Chronotropic agent. When the heart rate decreases because of a substance or chemical it is called a negative Chronotropic and when it is affected oppositely by increasing it is known as a positive Chronotropic agent. In this experiment we added many different substances to the slide on which the water flea was placed to calculate the increase or decrease in its heart rate due to the ingredients in the substances.
