Everyday we place our trust in people and the services those people provide. We trust that our
friends will not betray our confidences, that the water we drink will not make us ill, that the
building we work in will not collapse, that the vendor we buy from will not overcharge us, and so
forth. In order to be productive and comfortable in our lives, we must routinely place our trust in

Tennis Essay
As we all know, America is a nation of sports enthusiasts. Most Americans participate is some
kind of sporting event, either as a spectator or as a competitor. In the pantheon of great American
sports, there is one that stands out. It has been called the great American pastime. Yes, that great
sport known as tennis. Tennis requires a mastery of many skills to be able to play competitively,
but the primary skill needed to win in tennis is the serve. The serve is the primary offensive
weapon used I tennis, because it is the only time when a player gets to put a ball into play. The
player controls the speed, the placement, and the spin of the ball. With proper procedure, the serve
can win many points and games for the server. The technique... Show more content on

The server should hold the racket in his or her right hand, holding the right arm straight toward the
ground. The racket hand should point in the direction of the net. The server should hold the ball in
his or her left hand, touching the ball to the racket face.
The actual serve motion requires timing and speed. The server should toss the ball straight up into
the air by fully extending his or her left arm. He or she should leave the left arm fully extended to
help sight the ball as it ascends. While the ball is in the air, the server should rotate the racket head
so that it points away from the net, and then bring it straight up so that the frame almost touches the
right shoulder blade. Meanwhile, the server should shift his or her weight to the right leg. Then, as
the ball reaches the height of its ascent, the server should jump up while fully extending his or her
right arm toward the ball and slightly twisting his or her right wrist to bring the racket face into
contact with the ball. Then he or she should continue the forward motion of the racket by following
through the stroke, bringing the racket across the body so that it points toward the ground at the
server s left side.
These directions are for a right handed player. A left handed player would use the same technique,

Canadian Branch plant economies
Modern industrial organizations in Canada are synonymous with the branch plant economy
phenomenon. In general, the term branch plant economy refers to a convenient shorthand term to
describe a regional economy where a large proportion of the employees are in establishments
owned by firms whose head office lies outside the region (Watts 1). In Canada, branch plant
economies are subsidiaries of companies based abroad, mostly in the U.S. A branch plant
economy is a strategic tool used by transnational corporations to maximize profits, avoid tariff fees
and encourage exports. Branch plant economies have been established in Canada for two essential
purposes; the first is to gain access to the domestic Canadian market and the second is to... Show

Canadians being employed in the manufacturing sector (http:/

Currently, Canada is economically heavily dependent on larger economic countries for research and
development and new technologies. Canada also has always been dependent on the extraction of its
primary products for export to other countries. As far back as 1963 as much as sixty percent of the
manufacturing industry was owned by firms whose head office lay outside the region or in foreign

to the beginning of the twentieth century where a bright young entrepreneur named Sam
McLaughlin who initially was an apprentice in his father s carriage workshop went into the
automobile manufacturing business with his brother and father. By l9l8, with increasing
competition in the North American automobile industry, McLaughlin decided to sell his firm to the
recently organized General Motors Company, owned by Durrant and associates. Thus, McLaughlin
s company became a Canadian subsidiary of General Motors, with McLaughlin as president and as
vice president of the American company. During this process, the Oshawa plant gained the

Film Techniques In Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank Redemption is a film that was directed by Frank Darabont. Shawshank Redemption
was a film about Andy Dufresne, who goes to prison for a double murder that he did not commit
and serves two life sentences, Andy makes long lasting friendships at Shawshank Prison and has
many hobbies that he does. In Shawshank Redemption a major theme in this film is escape as it
is displayed through the film numerous times and in different formats such as film techniques
and characterization. Shawshank Redemption is a box office classic and it has been referred to
as the best film ever made. A scene where escape was featured heavily is when Andy and his
friends were tarring a roof as Red had bribed the guards to put them up there. Andy was listening...

Andy escapes by making a hole through the wall over a twenty year period and then during a
stormy night, Andy breaks the sewage pipe by using a piece of concreate while it is masked by
the sound of thunder. Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and
characterization. When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he
was baptised because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also
escaped the corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering
schemes otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in
this scene was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then
switch to the lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the piece
of concrete against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience
be on the edge of their seats. This scene if very significant to the story because this when Andy
literally escapes from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene displays how much
defiance and hope Andy really had. In conclusion, Shawshank Redemption used characterization
and film techniques to display Escape through Andy and the people around successfully. Personally,
I really enjoyed watching Shawshank Redemption because the film used a lot of thought provoking

The Gospel Of Judas
The Gospel of Judas was discovered in the late 1970 s near El Minya in Egypt however the
gospel was not available to scholars until 2006 when National Geographic published a translation
of the Coptic text. The Gospel of Judas, believed to be written sometime in the second century,
contains sixteen chapters that document Jesus teaching spiritual matters and cosmology to Judas.
In 2006, when the translation was released, National Geographic came out and said that this text
reveals Judas as the perfect gnostic where his act of betrayal is righteous and allows him to
surpass all other disciples. One of the major problems with the release of this translation was that
scholars, like April DeConick, began realizing that some words and phrases... Show more content

Before Rodolphe Kasser worked on preserving the text in 2004, the Tchacos Codex, the manuscript
in which the Gospel of Judas can be found, changed hands many times. At one point the codex
landed into the hands of an antiques dealer who wanted an enormous amount of money. However,
what he came to realize was that anyone who wanted the manuscript could not afford his price. At
this point, the manuscript ended up in a safety deposit box in New York until 2000. Eventually, a
Swiss individual bought the codex and finally the manuscript was reconstructed by Kasser. In 2008,
scholarship began associating the final redactor of the gospel with Sethian Gnosticism. The Ohio
fragments were photographed and reconstructed in 2009 leading to much of the missing text being
added. By 2011, the basic established theory was that the Gospel of Judas was a second century
polemic Sethian Gnostic text that was against the apostolic and Orthodox Christianity.
The opening of the Gospel of Judas finds the disciples offering thanks over bread in which Jesus
laughs because they are offering thanks to their God. Then Jesus asks them who he truly is but
none could answer, except Judas. Judas said that he came from the realm of the immortal Barbelo
but he cannot say the name of the one who sent him. In which Jesus then tells Judas to separate
from the others and he will reveal the mysteries of the kingdom. When Judas comes to Jesus a

Willis O Brien s Use Of Stop Motion In King Kong

The 1933 film King Kong was one of the first feature films to use stop motion as a practical effect.
In that time, it was the only way to create the creatures such as those and have them interact with
the live action characters. Willis O Brien was the lead special effects artist on King Kong; he was
one of the pioneers of stop motion animation. Throughout King Kong, many different practical
techniques were used to bring the film to life including, stop motion, miniature sets, mattes and full
scale practical creatures.
For the film, 74 different Kong were created, they were all alike, their only difference being in
their size. The largest Kong was 50 ft. tall, its face alone, from chin to hair line, was 7 ft. tall. The
biggest Kong was only seen fully assembled once during the film and that was at the end after

have forced the medical community to reconsider the benefits of herbs. This has mostly come about
with increasing exposure of western community to the healing techniques practiced in other
cultures and countries that proved to be more effective than, or at the least complimentary to,

The Themes Of Empathy
Human beings are kind and caring in nature. They exude a sense of compassion towards each other.
This is called empathy. Humans care for one another and are mostly understanding. However, this
not always the case. Sometimes due to adolescence or pure cynicism. This lack of empathy can
cause challenges in social relations, rendering empathy of utmost importance. Hence, the
characterization of empathy is prevalent in multiple works, including text3 and 4. Text 3, a comic
panel, exhibits the lack of empathy in a simpler manner. It shows the lack of empathy through a
paranoid cynicist, a boy afraid of swimming who distrusts his lifeguard. It is later revealed that the
lifeguard is also a cynicist, complaining about how she s doing the job just to pay for university.
Therefore, this text shows the audiencehow the lack of empathy from both ends yielded a lack of
understanding. On the other hand, text 4, a poem, displays the significance of empathy in a
different and more complex fashion. It reveals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

empathetic. He was not very optimistic but was realistic. He felt for people who loved him and
hated him. In the last stanza he has an empathetic tone as he gives his advice to the audience. To

Anorexia Nervos A Psychological And Physical Causes And...
Every time you view your reflection in a mirror, the sight of your body horrifies you. You have
become so brainwashed to believe that your body is unacceptable, that you have formed an
obsession with being smaller. This is how people with eating disorders feel. According to the
University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) (2016), about one fifth of people with anorexia
are related to at least one person with the disorder. Anorexia nervosais an eating disorder with
mainly adolescent victims. Different studies have been able to identify some of the
psychological and physical causes and consequences of anorexia. Many people dismiss anorexia
nervosa as a short lived adolescent disorder, but most do not realize the disease s long lasting
implications on health and how crucial it is to seek treatment. The UMMC (2016) defines
anorexia nervosa as, an emotional disorder that focuses on food, but many researchers believe it
is an attempt to deal with perfectionism and a desire to gain control by strictly regulating food and
weight . The McGill Journal of Medicine (2007) states that some of the causes of anorexia are
refusal to maintain adequate body weightand intense fear of gaining weight. Other causes of
anorexia have been identified as severe trauma, stress, abnormal serotonin levels, an environment
that promotes thin body image, want for perfectionism, and family history of eating disorders
(UMMC, 2016). It is no surprise that the body image that society portrays as being

DNA Barcoding and the BOLD Database
Many technological advancements have been made since the discovery of DNA structure and
its function in 1953 by James Watson and Francis Crick. Recently, scientists have developed a
process called DNA barcoding. The result of DNA barcoding is a database of barcodes of species,
made up of a sequence of nucleotides in specific genes. DNAbarcoding is a relatively new process
that isolates a section of a mitochondrial gene and amplifies it, allowing scientists to sequence the
order of nucleotide bases in a certain gene, the organism s barcode. The mitochondrial
cytochrome c oxidase 1 gene (CO1) is used for animals. It codes for a protein that is a part of the
electron transport chain, which is used by every speciesduring oxidative phosphorylation in
cellular respiration. Every organism has a unique CO1 gene, but organisms that are within the
same families will have more similar genes. Thus, by looking at a sequence of nucleotides in the
CO1 gene, scientists can identify and categorize species. Each DNA barcode is registered in the
Barcode of Life Database (BOLD) under its respective species, and barcodes are being
continually added to this database by scientists on the grassroots level. This allows easy and fast
identification of species with no expert knowledge of the species required. The old Linnaean
system of taxonomy is now outdated, replaced by this revolutionary new way to identify organisms.
Today, scientists are utilizing the DNA barcodingprocess to answer a

Sleep Is An Important Factor
Both the conscious and unconscious mind revolve around one fundamental aspect of human
function: sleep. While there exists many different theories about the exact function of sleep, it

hypothalamus regulates body functions. (Swann, 2013). Seven to nine hours of sleep is necessary
for the brain to restore. Sleep is an important factor because it affects one s health. The amount of
sleep a person gets at night can affect their academic performance, number of accidents, amount of
injuries, and an increase in the chance of obesity. (Noland et al, 2009). Numerous attributes that
interrupt one s sleep are sleeping disorders, the amount of stress in one s life, alcohol consumption,
caffeine intake, homework load, school hours, jobs, and management skills. (Noland et al, 2009).
An average, healthy person falls asleep in about ten minutes. During this time, a person will begin

College Campus Dieting
Healthier Dieting on ASU S campus There is a large problem with nutritious diets for college
students worldwide. The reason for this is the lack of healthy options in college dining halls. No
matter how hard students try to keep a healthy, nutritious diet they almost always end up collecting
unhealthy eating habits throughout the school year. The limited healthy food on college campuses
is affecting students negatively around the globe. I have heard of this happening at many colleges
around the country but here at Arizona State University it affects me personally and I see it affect
many of my fellow classmates, there needs to be something done to fix it. The limited selection of

Analysis Of Boethius The Consolation Of Platosophy
Horne 1
Kyle Horne
Dr. Catherine Chaput
Core Humanities 201
13 April 2016
The Consolation of Platosophy In The Consolation of Philosophy, Boethius expresses his belief
that, through philosophy and God, his mind will remain free despite the imprisonment of his body.
This is in line with Plato s belief of the separation between mind and body and reflects Plato s
belief that the mind and its pursuit of knowledge is of greater value than the body and its desires in
the pursuit of happiness. Boethius embrace of philosophy and virtue and simultaneous rejection of
earthly goods also reflects these ideas. Boethius ideas, however, differ from Plato s in that they
include his belief in God and depict God as the true goal when pursuing happiness. This ... Show

This illustrates Boethius belief that philosophy is of greater importance than the body. This
belief is further emphasized when Lady Philosophy tells Boethius that she will give your mind
wings on which to lift itself; all disquiet shall be driven way and you will be able to return safely
to your homeland (86), illustrating that, in Boethius mind, the freedom of the mind is true
freedom and is far more important than freedom of the body, which gives only the illusion of
true freedom. Lady Philosophy also explains to him that true virtue is superior to earthly goods,
and that material things are incorrectly believed to be a source of happiness, when, in reality,
bring only fear and anxiety because If happiness is the highest good of rational nature and
anything that cannot be taken away is not the highest good since it is surpassed by that which
can t be taken away (31). She also expresses the idea that earthly goods do not matter because
when the mind is freed from the earthly prison and seeks out heaven in freedom, surely it will
despise every earthly affair (43). This rejection of earthly goods and desires in favor of virtue
can be viewed as an example of rejection of bodily desires and an embrace of philosophy and the
mind. Lady Philosophy also asks Boethius why mortal men seek after happiness outside
yourselves, when it lies within you (31). The idea that happiness is within humans further
emphasizes a rejection of bodily desires, which are found outside of oneself, in favor of
philosophy and affairs of the mind, which are found within oneself, as a means of acquiring

Poverty in Less Developed Countries Essay
Poverty in Developing and Less Developed Countries
The world includes less developed countries and developing countries. Less developed countries
are countries considered to be poor and often contain many people who are in absolute poverty.
Developing countries are countries like India, which are gaining in wealth.
There are two types of poverty within the world. Absolute poverty is where people don t have
enough money to provide standard living conditions for themselves and characteristics of
substandard lives are disease, malnutrition, and low life expectancy. Relative poverty is where a
person is considered poor in relation to the average wealth held in their society.

The disasters cause poverty because these countries are often weak financially and cannot afford
to restore their country after extensive damage. Therefore due to lack of resources the situation
gets worse. It affects their inhabitant s lives causing a lack of production leading to being unable
to provide for citizens. In turn leading to poverty, as they cannot even provide substances to trade
and lose money. Other factors that affect the lives of citizens are lack of clean water and standard
education. Lack of medical aid also affects the country badly. An ill and uneducated workforce
forms the basis of a weak, demoralised nation. These factors also lead to poverty.
Frequently, when a country in the developing world is struggling economically they appeal for aid
from organisations like the international monetary fund or the World Bank. They are issued loans
from developed countries like the USA and England at a high rate of interest. They are required
to pay over time, but the interest rates are so high that the country often finds itself in further debt
than before the loan. This problem is defined as world debt. Suggestions made recently have been
that all debt to be paid by the developing world should be written off and a fresh start made.
However the problem

I Find The Sport Of The Hoofball Game Last Night
So, you watch the hoofball game last night? No. I find the sport to be repugnant and vapid. Oh,
Captain Bronze Lance said. He was having a rough week. After being grilled by the Royal
Sisters about bachelors in the Royal Guard which was quite possibly the most awkward
conversation he had ever had the Princesses went missing, which sent the palace guards into
panic. One moment, they were having tea in one of the castle s sitting rooms, and the next, they
were gone. Nearly five dozen guards discreetly scoured the castle grounds all day, trying to
prevent the inevitable hysteria that would break out if Their Highnesses disappeared. Hours later,
in the middle of the night, the Two Sisters walked into the kitchen asking for a snack as if
nothing had happened. The reports detailing that situation took Captain Lance hours to complete,
and he made sure to bury them deep, deep within the castle s archives. Once this week was over,
he never wanted to talk about it again. But right now, he was awkwardly sitting beside Celestia s
royal scheduling advisor, Kibitz, waiting for the Princesses to arrive. Do you think they re running
late? The scheduled time was five minutes ago. Bronze said. Without turning his head, Kibitz dryly
replied, Captain, the Princesses are never running late, other ponies are simply running early. Oh,
Bronze said, looking down at his hooves. It was unusual for Celestia and Luna to arrange meetings
with such short notice, but usual days were

My Personal Experience Of Sexuality Education At Avondale...
The time at which we are at school is thought to be one of the most critical times of our lives. It is a
period in our life in which we start discovering ourselves and our sexualities.School is an institution
that is thought to provide enrichment in all aspects, not just academic stimulation but also emotional
maturity and psychological development.Sexuality education therefore has become a fundamental
aspect of one s learning as it not only enables us to formulate ideas regarding sexual identity and
gender but also allows us acknowledge ourselves as sexual beings. It can be argued that sexuality is
not the property of the individual and is not a hormonally or biologically given quality (Epstein,O
Flynn and Telford, 2003) but rather it is a socially constructed paradigm or notion that permeates
almost all aspects of not just schooling but our society, both formally and informally. This notion of
sexuality is ever changing and it is made dynamic by particular events in history that change our
perspectives and priorities.By using my personal experience of sexuality education at Avondale
College and St.Dominic s College,I aim to demonstrate the ever increasing importance of
comprehensive sexuality education in New Zealand and show how the current curriculum very
successfully promotes heteronormativity but often fails to wholeheartedly acknowledge
desire, homosexualtity and teenage pregnancy. This failure to acknowlege key aspects of sexuality
in schools has numerous consequences

Ronald Reagan Speech Ethos Pathos Logos
June 6, 1944. A day that people will remember forever. A day that men sacrificed their lives for
liberty. It had been forty years since World War 2 had left its impact on the world. On the sixth
of June, 1984, Ronald Reagan, 40th President of the United States, stood at Pointe du Hoc and
delivered a powerful speech to the veterans of D Day. The same spot the Allied armies ran up the
coast to fight against the Nazi tyranny. Behind President Reagan was a stone memorial that
symbolized the rangers that took these cliffs. Reagan explained: These are the boys of Pointe du
Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent.
These are the heroes who helped end a war (American Rhetoric). President Reagan s speech

Ethos is the appeal to ethics, pathos is the appeal to emotion, and logos is the appeal to logic (

show importance. As an example, All of these men were part of a roll call of honor with names
that spoke of a pride as bright as the colors they bore.. (American Rhetoric). The appeal of pathos
is used in this speech a lot to express strong emotion. Reagan uses this device to capture the
audience s attention like when he said, The air is soft, but forty years ago at this moment, the air
was dense with smoke and the cries of men, and the air was filled with the crack of rifle fire and
the roar of cannon. Finally, Reagan includes logos to state facts about events that happened on the

Deregulation And Lack Of Supervision
Additionally, reasons for most of the major crises were deregulation and lack of supervision. Until
recently, such complex products like derivatives were unsupervised as they were not directly
connected to the deposits.
A change in regulation is one of the problems which arises for structured products. For example
decision of government to decrease use of non standardised or opaquely priced financial products.
The aim of such action is to attract attention of structured products users to the need of covering
externalities placed by such instruments.
Moreover, crises are considered to be consequences of several negative economic indicators,
however this is not correct for the 2007 crisis, which happened during the period of high and stable
growth rate and low inflation. Due to a strong connection between financial markets, the crisis
spread fast globally. This showed that even well developed economic system can experience
damageable drops. As a countermeasure, in developed countries, governments set their monetary
policies to stimulate industrial output and recover financial markets.
4.2. Structured Products are to Blame
Structured products are blamed for playing important role in the 2007 crisis. The securitisation
process changed the way banks operate as the originate to hold model replaced by the fee driven
originate to distribute model. New operating model helped banks reduce maturity mismatch for
assets and liabilities. However, such products are not transparent

Giotto Di Bondone Distinctively Visual
To give a background, linear perspective is a mathematical system for creating the illusion of
space and distance on a flat surface. An artist must first imagine the picture surface as an open
window through which to see the painted world when he or she wants to use perspective in his
or her paintings. Straight lines are then drawn on the canvas to represent the horizon and visual
rays connecting the viewer s eye to a point in the distance. One must draw these lines to connect
the viewer s eye to a vanishing point line, just like where the sky meets the ground. Orthogonal
lines are then drawn over the canvas or work space. The point where orthogonal lines meet is
called the vanishing point. One can compare this to train tracks in the distance. [fix this

we know it today. Pictures used to be very flat and cartoon like. This changed however when
artists began to get really creative and pay attention to making their pieces more lifelike. One of the
artists who started this change was Giotto di Bondone (1267 1337). Giotto was one of the

Baptistry. Through the hole or aperture, the eye of the observer would be drawn immediately to the

provide the scientific basis for visual representation in the fifteenth century and he is credited with
the formulation of a linear, central perspective based on mathematical principles. Brunelleschi s
studies transformed art drastically from that point on. Utilizing the observation that parallel lines

The artist used vertical perspective, overlapping, diminishing size, and atmospheric perspective to
achieve the perceptual style. The vertical perspective means that the foreground is at the bottom of
the painting, and middle ground is in the middle, and the background is on the top. In this
painting, the carriage is the closest to the audience, so it is located on the bottom. The mountain is
the farthest, so it is on the top. Meanwhile, the artist made objects overlap with each other to
creates an illusion of near and far. The trees on the left side of this painting overlaps with the
houses in the back. Thus, the audiences can feel that the trees are nearer than house. At the same

smaller as they go farther away. In the painting, the horses are much bigger than the kids. It does
not mean that the horses are literally much bigger but means that the horses are closer to the
audience. Atmospheric perspective means that the objects in the foreground is clear and crisp, and
the things in the background is less clarity, and become hazy. In this painting, the color is vibrant

The Big Move to College
Moving away from home has been one of the biggest challenges that I have had to face so far in

Eventually my mom got back into her car and began the long trip home. There I was, alone in the

It works to create a positive peace through a transformation of conflict. In 1992, United Nations
secretary General Boutros Ghali released his report titled An Agenda for Peace. This document
proposed peace building as Action to identify and solidify peace in order to avoid relapse into
conflict, (Boutros Ghali 11). While two sides are still in conflict, there is not a chance for
communication between sides. Until violent conflict ceases, the two parties will continue to
dehumanize one another and decrease the ability to understand one another. However, conflicts
cannot always resolve themselves and outside intervention is sometimes needed to avoid a cycle
of revenge, which can be a result. The problem is a well known bias in human perception,
whereby we inflate the value of the wrongs we suffer, and minimize the value of those we
ourselves inflict. (Santa Barbara 179). Luckily, there are nations such as Canada, with politicians
like Lloyd Axworthy, who created the Canadian peace building initiative in 1996. The initiative
suggested a concern for the multidimensional and integrated causes of civil war and thus
acknowledged the need to address the economic, social, and political aspects of reconstruction and

addressed when trying to develop a strategy for reconciliation. These are political, legal, material,

In deciding which product to approve, the production head could use historical data pertaining to

Therefore, choosing MMDCE from a strategic stand point seems to be a better option. Issue 3:
NPV Analysis Since DYOD is a brand new product line for the company, the inherent risks
involved in its successful launch are higher than MMDCE, since it is merely an extension of an
existing line of products. Therefore, in order to do an NPV analysis, the division head could use a
discount rate of 8.4% for the MMDCE and 9% for the DYOD product lines respectively. An NPV
analysis suggests that investment in the MMDCE product line is a more profitable proposition
compared to the DYOD product line since the NPV of the DYOD product line is negative (

Rejection Of Evil
As a soul living in a manipulative society, this has made me consider who really is the cause of the
evil of the world. The American government we have been co existing with has made it seem that
the other countries, China, Russia, and Middle Eastern counties, have power and wish to destroy
the Americans. But the American government itself, are the destroyers. The control over humanlife
is now in the hands of the top dogs of America, and we don t know exactly who they are. They can
control energy, food supply, education, healthcare, and pretty much every aspect of the human
experience. My evil is a system that has mysteriously and deceptively trickled their way into our
mentality to make us think we need them, but they need us. Resisting this evil force, is done
through acknowledgement and being aware of who and what the... Show more content on

Everyone must express their true thoughts of situations that affect society and one once there is
knowledge there must be a way for acceptance. Acceptance of religions, which consider of the
physiological perspective of the meaning of the unknown purpose in life, brings ultimate peace and
unity. No matter the difficulty, it ll always be the first option to strive for the easy path. The hardest
path will bring that negativity and hatred to the ones who want change. The change towards love is
what scares humanity. Love from what I experience, is an unknown path that can lead to happiness
and the outcomes are always different yet beautiful. But if society keeps indulging in hatred, we
know the outcome is death. Love is all we need. Humans desire the unknown concept of love but it
is smashed by the powers by emphasizing hate by domination. Love acts are done through non
violent movements. Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and the now current Native American movement,

Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory Maslow, Abraham. 1908 1970. American psychologist and a
founder of humanistic psychology who developed a hierarchical model of human motivation, in
which a higher need, ultimately that for self actualisation, is expressed only after lower needs are
fulfilled. Self actualisation needs Self actualization is the fulfilment of the person s dreams and
aspirations. Even if all these needs are satisfied, we may still often (if not always) expect that a

Cyber Crime As A Key Risk For Regulated Firm
Cyber crime as a key risk for regulated firm Delegate ID number : 3733017 November 2014 The
term cyber crime describes criminal activity involving computer and internet in committing a crime.
Generally it can be divided to two manners: It can target the machine itself, where the purpose of
crime would be to gain access to important data stored on the machine, which could be used to
obtain gain. It can also use the machine as a tool to commit other type of crime in more traditional
understanding, say distribute child pornography or trade ill gotten goods. Other division

of omnipresent internet, machines provide grounds for committing internet fraud but can also be a
channel to commit traditional crime and provide platform for criminals to support each other and

channels such as forums and Internet Relay Chats (IRC). They are meant to cater the need for
hacking tools, malicious software, and stolen data. Less skilled actors can gain the access to
guidance and services helping them extend their skills. Closer look at these marketplaces reveals
that they can be used to distribute and obtain expertise, tools, and even sensitive data of potential

Comparison Between Am And Fish Cheeks
The large woman simply turned around and kicked him in the blue jeaned sitter, Though it may
not seem like this is a story of learning and positive influences, so begins one of many such
stories about a child being positively influenced by a parental figure in a way that will affect
every decision he/she will ever make. Parents have an enormous impact on what their children do
and what ideals said children believe in. Without parental interaction, children may become lost or
come to accept mistaken ideals such as the rightfulness of stealing which Roger, a main character
symbolizing a child, actually agrees with when the reader originally reads the story. While some
children might find their way if left alone, many would become overwhelmed and their young
minds would perish. In this article, two texts will be discussed that express this topic: Thank You,

Legal Aspects of Diversity Article Review Essay
Bass Pro Shops were created out of frustration of a fisherman that could not find any tackle in his
town. So in 1971, Johnny Morris rented a U Haul and headed across America filling the truck with
the newest tackle as he went. Once Johnny had finished, he returned home to Springfield, Missouri,
and started his own fishing business with eight feet of space in his father s liquor store (Bass pro
shops, 2012). This became a starting point for many fishermen in the Ozark s famous bass lakes.
In 1974, after much demand, Johnny created a catalog that started his business booming. Today,
there are 65 Bass Pro Shops in the world as well as catalog and Internet shopping available. This

While moving around throughout my adult years, I have noticed that many of the cultural issues
that I see here in the south are not an issue in northern states and other countries. I have also seen a
difference between small communities and large communities. Seems most people in the larger
communities are much more open minded and willing to go out of their ways to embrace cultural
diversity whether in their workplace or in their neighborhood. Diversity is about learning from
other cultures and respecting the differences that come our way. I work in a small public school
system; our county does not have a Wal Mart. As far as cultural diversity, all the teachers, except
for one are white and the support staff, to include janitorial, and kitchen help are all black. There
is nothing in between. Coming from a very culturally diverse area of Florida, I am very
uncomfortable with this. I have had a conversation with some of the support staff, kitchen ladies,
regarding the most segregated hour every week and we all agree that it is a shame. However, I
have also heard some of the teachers in the lounge make statements like It s getting dark in here ,
just like the managers at the Bass Pro Shop. Being an outsider to this town most folks are guarded
around me and attempt to watch what is said, however; I still hear a long pause when I walk into a
room and I am white, just not local. We raised our children

Swot Analysis Of Boeing
Introduction The World s largest manufacturers of military and commercial aircrafts Boeing was
formed in Seattle, Washington in the year 1916. The leading manufacturer has been involved in
many mergers and acquisitions internationally and making strategic alliances with aerospace giants
like North American Aviation, Rockwell International, McDonald Douglas (Boeing, 2015). With
the presence of diverse, talented and innovative workforce currently, being is operating in more
than 80 countries with more than 25000 suppliers. (Boeing, 2016) The two main units operated by

However, the result was opposite. The project was three years behind schedule and $3billion
dollars above budget. After the initial success, Boeing started losing its market share as
customers experienced the delay in delivery of the aircraft (Lamba and Elahi, 2012). Since the
year 2008, the cost of manufacturing 787 had been increased by 120% as compared to the
original budget. This resulted in the delivery schedule of 787 seven times by Boeing. (Cohan,
2011) Boeing is facing supply chain issues (Lamba and Elahi, 2012) The Dreamliner was also
facing engine issue that resulted in the further delay of the aircraft to the customers (Drew and
Clark, 2010) Hence, Boeing finally lost control on all the development activities as they outsourced
the manufacturing of the 787.The lack of experience of the engineers and use of composite material
also contributed to the fall of Boeing (Cohan, 2011). After losing market share to Airbus, the
company aimed at increasing travel experience by manufacturing airplanes using carbon fiber,
aluminum, and titanium, which would allow pressure to be maintained in the cabin with a fair
improvement in the travel experience instead of the traditional aluminum material. This helped 787
to fly nonstop between cities without layovers. Boeing improved efficiency by usage of electric
systems and using lithium ion batteries; this helped to

Studies on Memories
Human beings usually depend on memory to accurately recall or describe the past events that have
happened. However, many researchers have shown that human memories can be imperfect and
fallible (Lilienfeld et al., 2012). This essay will argue that human memory for the details of past
events is not reliably accurate. The evidence for this argument can be seen in two empirical studies
which will be reviewed. Schmolck, Buffalo Squire (2000), found that percentage memory
distortions and mistaken recollections after 32 months is higher than 15 months. Lastly, Roediger
III, Jacoby, and McDermott (1996) found an extensive misinformation effects occurred in memory
recall and the effects increase with repeated testing.
First evidence is study by Schmolck et al. (2000) which is to examine memory changes about the
O.J. Simpson trial verdict after 15 months and 32 months of the incident. The IVs for the study is
the time taken for the interview of the participants. The IVs has two levels which are the interview
were conducted after 15 months and 32 months of the incident. Meanwhile, the DVs for the study is
the percentage of memory distortions after 15 and 32 months of the incident. They surveyed 222
undergraduate psychology students. The participants rated several questions and answered a few
questions (how they heard the verdict, where were they and what were they doing when they heard
the verdict) after 3 days of the verdict was announced. Then, the 222 students were divided into

Emily Bierce s A Rose For Emily
According to Melczarek, Faulkner uses more complicated narrative strategy to achieve
psychologically complex effect of horror in his story, while Bierce uses hallucination in his
story to create suspense. Bierce s starts his story with a man who is about to be hanged to death
without any description of that men. In the second section of the story Bierce describes a men
named Peyton Farquahar, the person to be hanged on old creek bridge. Farquahar appears to
make a dramatic escape when the rope breaks from the bridge, but at the end readers come to
know that Farquahar was just dreaming about the escape. Similarly, A Rose for Emily starts with
the funeral of Emily Grierson and a brief description of Emily. In the next section author describes

Examining the narrator s manipulations of the timeline may indicate a motive or motives that,
when taken into consideration with the directions in which the narrative steers reader attention
when horror results from the text s final image. Nebecker rightly questions earlier interpretations
of the narrator as singular and male, suggesting a more plausible first person collective and multi
generational narrator. Furthermore, narrator s strategy for presenting Miss Emily Grierson s
story when Homer Barron mysteriously disappears and his remains are found after Emily dies
years later on a bed which Emily appears to have slept in as well in upstairs room of Emily s
house, Nebeker concludes that by abetting if not aiding these acts, the narrative we,
representative of the Old South, triumphs over the later they, representative of the New South. A
closer look at Bierce s An Occurrence at Old Creek Bridge reveals a number of ambiguous
passages that sound normal in the flow of narrative about Farquhar s escape, but can also depict
the actual horrors of dying at the end of a rope. In these ambiguous passages, Bierce s narrator
makes a point about the relativity of time and about how people tend to take for granted the
valuable things in life until threatened with their removal. These two themes, the fluid nature of
time and the value of things often taken for granted, are clear, and readers usually have no problem

The Called Shot Essay
It s Saturday, October 1, 1932 at Wrigley Field in Chicago. It s a bright and sunny day. It s Game
3 of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs. And the
grandstands are jam packed with nearly 50,000 fans. The Yankees are back on top of their game
after a three season drought of titles and accolades. In this Series, the Yanks are managed by Joe
McCarthy, the manager who had been fired by the Cubs after the 1930 season. On this day, the
Yankees are up 2 games to none over the Cubs in the Series. And, it was in this game, that one of
Babe s biggest legends is born The Called Shot. Before the start of the game, the tension between
the teams is high. Trash talking of the day is at its peak between the two teams. Both the Cubs
players and their fans are particularly focused on hurling taunts toward the Babe. Some of... Show

And the smack is silenced as the crack of Babe s bat is heard and he smashes a big, booming
homerun over the wall near the flagpole in center field. Some say it was the longest homer ever
hit out of Wrigley Field. And in those moments, with emotions and agitation among teams,
players and fans running high, this particular turn at the plate and the ensuing homer created the
legend of Babe s Called Shot. Was it truth, rather than legend? Was Babe pointing at the spot he
planned to land his homer or was he pointing at Root? Or was he simply gesturing in general? No
one really knows for sure. But the legend was born. And likely was written in stone that same
day, when the sports editor for Scripps Howard newspapers wrote the following headline that
appeared in the New York World Telegram: Ruth Calls Shot as he Puts Home Run No. 2 in the

The Advancements Of Technology In The 21st Century
Technology Advances Over the last 30 years, IQ levels have risen dramatically and continue to
rise each generation. Along with rising IQ levels, technological advancement is rising more than
it ever was before. Let s think back to the time of cavemen. They started the invention of
technology as we know it today, making tools out of anything they can find such as bones, stone,
and wood. Cavemen are seen as uneducated and savage. During 3500 BCE, the wheel is invented.
Humans are seen as a little more advanced and educated during this time period as more devices
are innovated. Fast forward to the 17th century when Galileo and Isaac Newton show their
discoveries. Because of these improvements in science and technology, Galileo and Newton are
seen as geniuses that revolutionize the way humans learn about information. Today s inventors and
innovators are constantly teaching us new ways to go about life and showing us how to take
advantage of it. Technology has not only increased our overall intelligence, but has helped society
advance successfully. Ever since the invention of the internet, the way we go about our lives
everyday has been changed forever. We suddenly have access to answers of almost any question
anyone can think of at our fingertips. Figuring out how to fix any problems in your life and
learning about any subject matter is something that we as a society know how to do. In the past,
people didn t know how to do half of the things we know how to do because there

The Wife s Lament
The two poems known as The Wife s Lament and The Lament of the Old Woman of Beare have
numerous similar qualities even though they both come from different people. The Wife s Lament
is an Old English poem that is exceptionally heavy with emotional content; it is a monologue from
the perspective of a sorrowful womanwho appears to be undergoing significant sorrows due to
separation from her husband, most likely the result of exile. The other poem, The Lament of the
Old Woman of Beare, is an Irish poem with a first person narrator with the voice of a woman that
discusses the lamenting of old age. These are the rudimentary plots of the two poems, leading to the
similarities that these pieces of literature share, namely the theme of sorrows

Questions That Could Be Used For Interviewing Musicians
Questions that could be used in interviewing musicians. 1. When and why did you start playing?
I started to sing in a choir at the age of 5. I have always expressed myself through music, so my
mom got me into the choir as soon as I was old enough to be able to sing Lyrics. 2. Which
instruments do you play?
My voice is my main instrument. But I do play a little bit of guitar and piano when I m writing
new songs, or when I haven t got an instrumentalist who can back me up.

3. What was the first tune(s) you learned?
Well, the very first tunes I learned was the children s songs we sang at nursery school.

Ted Bundy Vs Ted Bundy
Serial killers are one of the biggest mysteries to the rest of humanity. The way they think and act
is terrifying but also fascinating because other people don t think in the same way. So when we
see someone so sadistic and emotionally detached we want to know more about them. We want to
know what their childhood was like, if something happened in the early development of their lives
or if they were just wired that way from birth. Two of the most popular serial killers are Ted Bundy
and Jeffrey Dahmer. They both started killing people in their young adulthood, progressively
becoming more and more addicted to the thrill it gave them leading up to their arrests later in
life. However, they had very different home lives and experiences that lead to their fates.
Childhood and adolescence tend to play a huge role in the way people turn out as adults, so it s
one of the first things people look back at when someone turns out to be any kind of killer. Jeffrey
Dahmer is said to have had a pretty normal childhood though, according to his father, he had an
unusual interest in the bodies of dead animals and didn t show the same kinds of emotions as other
children ( All About Jeffrey Dahmer , 2011). As he developed into adolescence his fascination with
dead animals only became more disturbing as he started examining and dissecting the carcasses. He
withdrew himself from society and turning to heavy alcoholism. His drinking problem stayed with
him throughout his high school career

The African American Labor Market
from leasing out laborers to desperate white southerners who needed to upkeep their crops and coal
mines.
Although some economic historians (DeCanio, Higgs; 1975, 1977) have concluded that laws
aimed at repressing blacks were largely ineffective because of economic competition amongst
blacks, Jennifer Roback of the University of Chicago Law Review asserts that the convict lease
system served as a exploitive byproduct of white southerners desire to proclaim economic
dominance over the African Americanlabor market. The motives of lessees were not solely
economically driven they were racially discriminatory practices with the intent of keeping African
Americans as subservient citizens. Along the way, white southerners realized that they could use
large groups of criminalized African Americans to build infrastructure, such as railroads, to mine
coal and iron, make turpentine, clear land, and of course, grow cotton. Similarly, state governments
realized that they could economically profit while socially benefiting from having African
Americans off the streets and back on plantations. Since nearly all convicts were black, few whites
cared about what happened to them. And if the supply of convicts fell below the demand,
legislators and sheriffs stood ready to increase the supply.
In a sense, pig laws, vagrancy laws, and convict leasing served as negative incentives to freed
persons who were hesitant to enter into labor contracts that offered low pay, long hours, and poor

Escape is displayed very comprehensively through film techniques and characterization. When Andy escaped through the sewers and ended in the river it felt like as if he was baptised because he escaped from the claustrophobic confines of Shawshank and he also escaped the corruption and money laundering as the warden had forced him to book his laundering schemes otherwise he would make it hell for him. The major film technique that was involved in this scene was when Andy was breaking the pipe, the camera was facing up towards him and then switch to the lightning strike through the window, then quickly switch to Andy crashing the piece of concrete against the pipe. This film technique gave the effect of intensity and made the audience be on the edge of their seats. This scene if very significant to the story because this when Andy literally escapes from Shawshank and the themes displayed in the scene displays how much defiance and hope Andy really had. The Gospel of Judas, believed to be written sometime in the second century, contains sixteen chapters that document Jesus teaching spiritual matters and cosmology to Judas. In 2006, when the translation was released, National Geographic came out and said that this text reveals Judas as the perfect gnostic where his act of betrayal is righteous and allows him to surpass all other disciples. One of the major problems with the release of this translation was that scholars, like April DeConick, began realizing that some words and phrases... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before Rodolphe Kasser worked on preserving the text in 2004, the Tchacos Codex, the manuscript in which the Gospel of Judas can be found, changed hands many times. At one point the codex landed into the hands of an antiques dealer who wanted an enormous amount of money. However, what he came to realize was that anyone who wanted the manuscript could not afford his price. At this point, the manuscript ended up in a safety deposit box in New York until 2000. Eventually, a Swiss individual bought the codex and finally the manuscript was reconstructed by Kasser. In 2008, scholarship began associating the final redactor of the gospel with Sethian Gnosticism. The Ohio fragments were photographed and reconstructed in 2009 leading to much of the missing text being added. By 2011, the basic established theory was that the Gospel of Judas was a second century polemic Sethian Gnostic text that was against the apostolic and Orthodox Christianity. The opening of the Gospel of Judas finds the disciples offering thanks over bread in which Jesus laughs because they are offering thanks to their God. Then Jesus asks them who he truly is but none could answer, except Judas. Judas said that he came from the realm of the immortal Barbelo but he cannot say the name of the one who sent him. In which Jesus then tells Judas to separate from the others and he will reveal the mysteries of the kingdom. When Judas comes to Jesus a vision in which he saw a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have become so brainwashed to believe that your body is unacceptable, that you have formed an obsession with being smaller. This is how people with eating disorders feel. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) (2016), about one fifth of people with anorexia are related to at least one person with the disorder. Anorexia nervosais an eating disorder with mainly adolescent victims. Different studies have been able to identify some of the psychological and physical causes and consequences of anorexia. Many people dismiss anorexia nervosa as a short lived adolescent disorder, but most do not realize the disease s long lasting implications on health and how crucial it is to seek treatment. The UMMC (2016) defines anorexia nervosa as, an emotional disorder that focuses on food, but many researchers believe it is an attempt to deal with perfectionism and a desire to gain control by strictly regulating food and weight . The McGill Journal of Medicine (2007) states that some of the causes of anorexia are refusal to maintain adequate body weightand intense fear of gaining weight. Other causes of anorexia have been identified as severe trauma, stress, abnormal serotonin levels, an environment that promotes thin body image, want for perfectionism, and family history of eating disorders (UMMC, 2016). • 17. DNA Barcoding and the BOLD Database Many technological advancements have been made since the discovery of DNA structure and its function in 1953 by James Watson and Francis Crick. Recently, scientists have developed a process called DNA barcoding. The result of DNA barcoding is a database of barcodes of species, made up of a sequence of nucleotides in specific genes. DNAbarcoding is a relatively new process that isolates a section of a mitochondrial gene and amplifies it, allowing scientists to sequence the order of nucleotide bases in a certain gene, the organism s barcode. The mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase 1 gene (CO1) is used for animals. It codes for a protein that is a part of the electron transport chain, which is used by every speciesduring oxidative phosphorylation in cellular respiration. Every organism has a unique CO1 gene, but organisms that are within the same families will have more similar genes. Thus, by looking at a sequence of nucleotides in the CO1 gene, scientists can identify and categorize species. Each DNA barcode is registered in the Barcode of Life Database (BOLD) under its respective species, and barcodes are being continually added to this database by scientists on the grassroots level. This allows easy and fast identification of species with no expert knowledge of the species required. The old Linnaean system of taxonomy is now outdated, replaced by this revolutionary new way to identify organisms. Today, scientists are utilizing the DNA barcodingprocess to answer a ... While there exists many different theories about the exact function of sleep, it is scientifically proven that this phenomenon keeps the brain working efficiently. The body possesses many states of consciousness, both conscious and unconscious. Sleep is the ring leader of the unconscious mind, and makes sure the body runs healthy while we are blissfully unaware of our surroundings. Sleep has always been a behavior that integrates itself into everyday life. In fact, we spend about one third of our life sleeping. This is in line with Plato s belief of the separation between mind and body and reflects Plato s belief that the mind and its pursuit of knowledge is of greater value than the body and its desires in the pursuit of happiness. This illustrates Boethius belief that philosophy is of greater importance than the body. This belief is further emphasized when Lady Philosophy tells Boethius that she will give your mind wings on which to lift itself; all disquiet shall be driven way and you will be able to return safely to your homeland (86), illustrating that, in Boethius mind, the freedom of the mind is true freedom and is far more important than freedom of the body, which gives only the illusion of true freedom. Lady Philosophy also explains to him that true virtue is superior to earthly goods, and that material things are incorrectly believed to be a source of happiness, when, in reality, bring only fear and anxiety because If happiness is the highest good of rational nature and anything that cannot be taken away is not the highest good since it is surpassed by that which can t be taken away (31). She also expresses the idea that earthly goods do not matter because when the mind is freed from the earthly prison and seeks out heaven in freedom, surely it will despise every earthly affair (43). This rejection of earthly goods and desires in favor of virtue can be viewed as an example of rejection of bodily desires and an embrace of philosophy and the mind. Lady Philosophy also asks Boethius why mortal men seek after happiness outside yourselves, when it lies within you (31). An artist must first imagine the picture surface as an open window through which to see the painted world when he or she wants to use perspective in his or her paintings. Straight lines are then drawn on the canvas to represent the horizon and visual rays connecting the viewer s eye to a point in the distance. One must draw these lines to connect the viewer s eye to a vanishing point line, just like where the sky meets the ground. Orthogonal lines are then drawn over the canvas or work space. The point where orthogonal lines meet is called the vanishing point. One can compare this to train tracks in the distance. [fix this paragraph] [transitions to examples] Perspective did not start out as perfect and as true to life as we know it today. Pictures used to be very flat and cartoon like. This changed however when artists began to get really creative and pay attention to making their pieces more lifelike. One of the artists who started this change was Giotto di Bondone (1267 1337). Brunelleschi s studies transformed art drastically from that point on. It works to create a positive peace through a transformation of conflict. In 1992, United Nations secretary General Boutros Ghali released his report titled An Agenda for Peace. This document proposed peace building as Action to identify and solidify peace in order to avoid relapse into conflict, (Boutros Ghali 11). While two sides are still in conflict, there is not a chance for communication between sides. Until violent conflict ceases, the two parties will continue to dehumanize one another and decrease the ability to understand one another. However, conflicts cannot always resolve themselves and outside intervention is sometimes needed to avoid a cycle of revenge, which can be a result. The problem is a well known bias in human perception, whereby we inflate the value of the wrongs we suffer, and minimize the value of those we ourselves inflict. (Santa Barbara 179). Luckily, there are nations such as Canada, with politicians like Lloyd Axworthy, who created the Canadian peace building initiative in 1996. The initiative suggested a concern for the multidimensional and integrated causes of civil war and thus acknowledged the need to address the economic, social, and political aspects of reconstruction and reconciliation (Keating 171). Issue 3: NPV Analysis Since DYOD is a brand new product line for the company, the inherent risks involved in its successful launch are higher than MMDCE, since it is merely an extension of an existing line of products. Therefore, in order to do an NPV analysis, the division head could use a discount rate of 8.4% for the MMDCE and 9% for the DYOD product lines respectively. A closer look at Bierce s An Occurrence at Old Creek Bridge reveals a number of ambiguous passages that sound normal in the flow of narrative about Farquhar s escape, but can also depict the actual horrors of dying at the end of a rope. In these ambiguous passages, Bierce s narrator makes a point about the relativity of time and about how people tend to take for granted the valuable things in life until threatened with their removal. These two themes, the fluid nature of time and the value of things often taken for granted, are clear, and readers usually have no problem seeing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some say it was the longest homer ever hit out of Wrigley Field. And in those moments, with emotions and agitation among teams, players and fans running high, this particular turn at the plate and the ensuing homer created the legend of Babe s Called Shot. Was it truth, rather than legend? Was Babe pointing at the spot he planned to land his homer or was he pointing at Root? Or was he simply gesturing in general? No one really knows for sure. But the legend was born. And likely was written in stone that same day, when the sports editor for Scripps Howard newspapers wrote the following headline that appeared in the New York World Telegram: Ruth Calls Shot as he Puts Home Run No. 2 in the Side Pocket. From there, the story got picked up elsewhere and other reporters reiterated on the theme of the Called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Ted Bundy Vs Ted Bundy Serial killers are one of the biggest mysteries to the rest of humanity. The way they think and act is terrifying but also fascinating because other people don t think in the same way. So when we see someone so sadistic and emotionally detached we want to know more about them. We want to know what their childhood was like, if something happened in the early development of their lives or if they were just wired that way from birth. Two of the most popular serial killers are Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer. They both started killing people in their young adulthood, progressively becoming more and more addicted to the thrill it gave them leading up to their arrests later in life. However, they had very different home lives and experiences that lead to their fates. Childhood and adolescence tend to play a huge role in the way people turn out as adults, so it s one of the first things people look back at when someone turns out to be any kind of killer. Jeffrey Dahmer is said to have had a pretty normal childhood though, according to his father, he had an unusual interest in the bodies of dead animals and didn t show the same kinds of emotions as other children ( All About Jeffrey Dahmer , 2011). As he developed into adolescence his fascination with dead animals only became more disturbing as he started examining and dissecting the carcasses. He withdrew himself from society and turning to heavy alcoholism. His drinking problem stayed with him throughout his high school career ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The African American Labor Market from leasing out laborers to desperate white southerners who needed to upkeep their crops and coal mines. Although some economic historians (DeCanio, Higgs; 1975, 1977) have concluded that laws aimed at repressing blacks were largely ineffective because of economic competition amongst blacks, Jennifer Roback of the University of Chicago Law Review asserts that the convict lease system served as a exploitive byproduct of white southerners desire to proclaim economic dominance over the African Americanlabor market. The motives of lessees were not solely economically driven they were racially discriminatory practices with the intent of keeping African Americans as subservient citizens. Along the way, white southerners realized that they could use large groups of criminalized African Americans to build infrastructure, such as railroads, to mine coal and iron, make turpentine, clear land, and of course, grow cotton. Similarly, state governments realized that they could economically profit while socially benefiting from having African Americans off the streets and back on plantations. Since nearly all convicts were black, few whites cared about what happened to them. And if the supply of convicts fell below the demand, legislators and sheriffs stood ready to increase the supply. In a sense, pig laws, vagrancy laws, and convict leasing served as negative incentives to freed persons who were hesitant to enter into labor contracts that offered low pay, long hours, and poor ...
