Essay On Architecture Is A Lot More Than Blueprints
Architecture: A lot more than Blueprints
In early prehistoric times, the discovery of caves proved to provide great protection against severe
weather for early man, although offered less protection against wild animals, making this type of
shelter somewhat unlivable. As a result, to provide better protection against nature and wildlife, man
discovered that the use of natural materials such as stones, bones, and tree branches offered a more
reliable domicile. Due to the nonconformity of living conditions, man learned how to use different
tools to build better structures; looking for better stability, security, and conformity. As time
progressed, the ability to create, design and construct shelters, houses, and buildings has been
defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, for older established architects learning new designs programs could be challenging
and as a result their business could lack the edge to prosper entirely. Another option is to hire a
designer, however hiring more employees becomes another expense in addition to the expense of
brand new programs that an established architect might not have initially accounted for. With so
many advances in technology and now the concern for more sustainable building construction,
established architects may have a difficult time adjusting to technological advances. Although
learning new programs isn't a necessity, it proves to provide an edge for futuristic architects.
Moreover, while some new aged advancements can be beneficial to the architectural world, some
progressions like greener buildings, although seemingly valuable, have been up for discussion, as
well on whether or not the right guidelines are being adhered by.
The architectural industry is facing another major challenge in the field of sustainability. Sustainable
architecture must adhere to the US Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design). This movement, also referred to as green building, focuses on utilizing
sustainable resources to increase an overall better wellness of its inhabitants, while reducing harmful
effects on the environment. In addition, the focus of green building has expanded to help prevent
pollution, control waste, and conserve

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Green Rating...
I. INTRODUCTION
Sustainability has now become a necessity in the urban environment. This is especially important in
Malaysia, where the urban population is almost 75%. It is also situated in an equatorial and tropical
climate region where increase urbanization will also increased warming of the land.
Green building practices can substantially reduce or eliminate negative environmental impacts
through good design, construction and operation. As an added benefit, green operations and
management can reduce operating costs, enhance building marketability, increase workers'
productivity, and reduce potential liability resulting from indoor air quality problems(5).
There are various types of green building rating system available globally. Among the well–known
rating systems are LEED, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the may incur some high initial costs, the green certification can produce significant cost
savings in the long run. This could, in turn, lead to increased profits.
Since the GBI certification in Malaysia has only been around for under 5 years, it is difficult to
accurately quantify the cost savings. However, we can consider some examples of GBI in other
countries to illustrate this.
One of the main criteria of the GBI is 'energy efficiency'. This is congruent with green building
systems in other places as well.
For example, in the Crowne Plaza in New york, hotel managers changed all incandescent light bulbs
to compact fluorescent (CFL). While the cost of purchasing the new bulbs was significant, the long–
term savings quickly offset these costs. The hotel spent almost $27,000 to change their bulbs, but
expect to save more than $120,000 per year in electrical costs and $20,000 per year in labor. This is
because the new bulbs use less energy and have a longer life span so they do not need to be changed

The Importance Of Environmental Problems In The World
Environmental problems are known to be a "Wicked problem" because there are so many sides one
must please, and ultimately never solve. From power, transportation, food scarcity; each one of
these face technological and government borders. The fact is it is hard to make people agree, it is
truly remarkable that the United Nations still stands and operates today when so many earlier
versions of it have failed. Still when countries are not at war together, their own country is not
revolution, the topic of the environment takes center stage. Because events like global warming are
not one country's problem, btu everyone's as humans are all connected by the same ocean. Brining
in environmentally friendly buildings, to working with municipalities, schools, and communities to
become more green. How the ever growing population leads to more problems, and above all how
one teacher can make a difference in so many student's lives. The world is forever changing, which
is why humans have to change with it, and what not better time to change when one leaves the
comfort of their parents and embark of to their first grand adventure to university.
Dalhousie University prides itself on owning the Mona Campbell Building which earned Gold for
its LEED certification. LEED which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a
program that rates buildings on how 'green' the building is, going from a certification, silver, gold to
platinum which needs to score 80 points out of the 100

Sustainability Is Not Green
What is sustainability? In contemporary design, sustainability is a furious warrior under a green
coat. People usually attribute sustainability with the color "green," essence of nature or love and care
for mother earth. In the context of construction, this means placing plants in buildings, installing
green roofs and use local construction materials. Sustainability is much more than a green coat
concept draped over buildings. Sustainability is strong, a courageous idea that would change the
future.
To sustain is to withstand and endure without "giving away." A sustainable civilization should not
empty natural resources and endanger the environment. To sustain is "...to meet the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
Preservation runs parallel with the concept of sustainability. To sustain is to preserve the current. To
Sustain is to discard the idea of wastefulness. Concern about the environment and preservation of
natural resource had become a heated debate among citizens, designers, and politics. United States
alone uses a significant among of world's energy and produces a great amount of greenhouse gas.
According to U.S. Department of Energy's EIA for 2007, commercial and residential buildings
consume about 40 percent of the energy usage in the United States. Building constructions plays an
important role in sustainable development and environmental preservation because building life

Global Warming And The United Arab Emirates
INTRODUCTION
The United Arab Emirates, alongside the rest of the Gulf has reached its limit of 'natural
sustainability'. Designing for a sustainable future is no longer a choice but a necessity. The Gulf
waters pose an ecological concern due to extensive offshore drilling, as well as the massive oil
tanker and merchant shipping traffic, which constitute the life of the region. As development propels
population growth along its shore and recreational tourism increases, the ecological well–being of
the inter–tidal zones and their sea life need to be safeguarded. Global warming and the predicted rise
in water levels will also impact coastal developments. There is therefore an urgent need for an
integrated land/sea strategy of sustainable growth along regional/global dimensions. (Al–Manakh
Book)
Since the discovery of oil in the 1960s, the UAE and notably Dubai has experienced dramatic
development, which skyrocketed in the 1990s and still continues to this day. This economic and
population boom has naturally had negative consequences on resource security and environmental
sustainability and the problem is currently too evident to ignore. (Luomi 2014) The region also
witnesses a highly consumer–orientated culture where much of the lifestyle comes at the expense of
the environment. Dubai is said to have one of the highest per capita levels of resource consumption
and ecological footprints in the world (Visser & Tolhurst 2010). "The city of Dubai has one of the

Implementing Sustainable Efforts For Green Initiatives
By incorporating sustainable efforts that encourage green initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint
on the environment, the P–Man Mall redevelopment can provide long–term benefits for UM
Investments and the surrounding community. Improving and revitalizing this property will increase
profitability with the increased consumer traffic, reduce operational costs with green initiatives, and
attract additional businesses to the location. The firm has allocated $20 million in calendar year
2016 for a project that will benefit the community, associated stakeholders, and organizational
investment of the company. Strategic Plan After analyzing and documenting economical forecast
models and profitability trends with various properties pending future renovations, the firm has
chosen to proceed with the redevelopment of P–Man Mall. The company chose this project because
it will provide the surrounding community of Coolsberg, Maryland with an economical
enhancement for families and businesses. The overhead costs for this project will be subsidized by
the tax increment reimbursements provided by the city to provide incentivized returns on the
sustainable upgrades proposed in the project planning. The project is anticipated to provide a
profitable return on the existing investment and future business needs. Project Scope The
redevelopment project of the P–Man Mall is expected to provide community and economic
improvement to Coolsberg, MD. The redevelopment will occur during regular

Green Benefits And Energy Savings
Elastomeric Roof Coating | Commercial Roofing Fort Worth
Green Benefits and Energy Savings
A roof coating provides a monolithic, fully adhered, fluid applied roofing membrane with flexible
properties that allows it to expand and contract with the temperature without incurring damage. It
can be applied over any commercial roof substrate, curing to form a seamless 100% acrylic
elastomeric membrane engineered to seal the entire roof, prolonging the roof life. The benefits of a
"cool roof" elastomeric roof coating are tremendous for both your building and its commercial
roofing in Fort Worth. In the following, we look at some of those benefits.
ELASTOMERIC COATING BENEFITS
Roof Protection
Elastomeric coatings seal the roof surface providing protection from rain and wind damage. By
keeping the commercial roofing in Fort Worth cool, elastomeric coating resists deterioration from
the sun and weather that can result in hardening and cracking on other traditional roofs, resulting in
a longer lasting, leak proof, and almost maintenance free roof. Roof coatings provide a monolithic
(seamless) roof, and when properly installed can solve the problem of leaks on almost any roofing
substrate, including metal roofs.
Cost Effective
A white elastomeric roof coating system costs less than the installation of a traditional new roof
system. Furthermore, building owners won 't have the costs of dump fees associated with removal of
the existing roofing systems.

Gentrification Is A General Term For The Expansion Of...
Gentrification is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a
related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district's character and culture. The
word draws controversy not only in its definition and meaning but also in the impact it has among
human social life. It is a practice that is of ancient origin and has withstood the challenges of
evolving times and is still practiced in the contemporary world. Proposers and opponents alike of the
gentrifying phenomena take advantage of the numerous myths and misconceptions that surround the
practice to advance their arguments. Urban planners have rooted for the inclusion of gentrification
as one of the pillars of urban growth. With better economic status– better roads, better water supply
system, better healthcare, reduced criminal activities and an overall uplifting of the quality of life
economically– it is hard to argue against an overall gain from gentrification. Yet with all this, it has
been the source of a lot of widespread animosity between social classes. It has also been blamed for
a lot of cultural values erosion with in some instances complete override of the indigenous ways of
life that the original inhabitants subscribed to. Green development is an urban development
approach that utilizes green infrastructural growth and is aimed at alleviating negative impacts, or
ideally have a net positive impact, on the environment and nearby ecosystems. Green

Green Energy Essay
With an abundance of government–funded tax breaks and subsidies available to encourage buildings
to go green, it is no wonder why so many companies are interested in converting their real estate
into energy efficient areas. The ability to win a multi–million dollar tax break is quite a motivator,
but just how much are these companies really doing to turn their properties green? It turns out that
many will do the bare minimum to win over this green certification, and most end up using just as
much energy as they previously did. This is why a recertification effort needs to be done conducted
to ensure that green buildings are truly energy efficient and are not just products of managers
looking to save a few dollars. Such a project can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that they can do very little to do so by only taking the smallest steps needed to get 40
total points. They can do this by creating pleasant and healthy office spaces, using common building
materials, providing parking for fuel–efficient vehicles, implementing bike racks and showers, and
posting educational displays (Schnaars and Morgan). None of these actions actually reduce
emissions or make a building greener, but if a company completes enough of them, they can win
over subsidies regardless of how little effort they have put in.
It is not just LEED that has been promoting this mindset of only carrying out a bare minimum effort.
Organizations in existence such as the U.S. Green Building Council were created to help guide
companies to achieve green certification through the cheapest means possible. It has advised
universities to achieve green points by offering courses on green building, told employers to give
workers a video game room and fitness center, and instructed builders to create fire–alarm systems
that minimize the stress on firefighters all with the intention to buy easy points (Schnaars and
Morgan). Considering that a building only needs 40 of these points to be considered green, it seems
much too easy for them to achieve green certification by doing things that barely make them green
at all. One way to make companies and buildings step

Starbucks Global Responsibility Report – Goals and Progress 2011
Year in Review: Fiscal 2011
From our beginning as a single store in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971, we have sought to be a
catalyst for positive change in the many communities we serve. Now, with more than 17,000 stores
in more than 55 countries and a growing business in consumer packaged goods, we find our reach is
greater than ever. Just as important, we continue to believe that the ultimate way to scale the power
of our brand is to share the good we do and how we do it so that Starbucks and everyone we touch –
from customers to coffee farmers – can thrive and endure.
Throughout our more than 40–year journey, Starbucks has sought to find innovative and relevant ...

Just as the Starbucks Experience continues to fulfill a universal need for personal connection, we
have continued to use our scale for good in ways that go beyond our stores. Create Jobs for USA
provides an exciting example of how we can positively impact communities through innovative and
authentic approaches to pressing problems. In just a matter of weeks, Starbucks turned our own
feelings of frustration during a time of unprecedented high national unemployment into a tangible
program with the Opportunity Finance Network to help spur job growth, neighborhood by
neighborhood. Through more than $7 million in donations and the distribution of more than 430,000
"Indivisible" wristbands in our stores, it is estimated that the program has helped to create and
sustain more than 2,300 jobs in the program's first three months. In Sendai, Japan last October, I met
with partners from more than 50 Starbucks stores who were most impacted by the horrific
earthquake and tsunami. I was awe struck by their personal stories of strength and courage, as well
as grateful for the hundreds of hours that our partners provided to support the recovery efforts for
their neighbors and for the financial assistance Starbucks was able to provide through the Red Cross.

Engineering a Sustainable World: What Does It Take to Come Out on Top?
The modern lifestyle, full of one time use items and pollution generating machines, harming our
environment is common knowledge, and, without a plan, the death of our planet is certain.
Environmentalist and author, Derrick Jensen uses a comparison of possible outcomes to persuade
his readers to take action that would help stop climate change; political resistance is his preferred
and recommended course of action for his readers. Throughout his essay, "Forget Shorter Showers",
Jensen makes clear his desire to reduce or even reverse the effects industrialization: He suggests an
approach where society makes changes to industry and to government over the current methods of ...

"Simple living" even at its most extreme would not be enough to save the planet, according to
Jensen; "Simple living" is an active choice made by individuals to reduce their carbon footprint
through voluntary reduce, reuse, and recycle methods. The author expands on these ideas when he
cites Kirkpatrick Sale; "The whole individualist what–you–can–do–to–save–the–Earth guilt trip is a
myth. We, as individuals, are not creating the crises, and we can't solve them" (Jensen , pg. 478).
This means that individual effort can only go so far toward rebuilding the global ecosystem. Instead,
there needs to be a greater response from the groups that cause the bulk of the issues. Changes in
Governmental, corporate and agricultural organizations are imperative. Most importantly, we need
to have major technological breakthroughs in these sectors to stop the damage being done to the
planet. Current sources of renewable energy are great ideas, but are cost prohibitive and inefficient,
making widespread use impossible for most developing countries. Developing countries need new
advances in lower cost energy to break their dependencies, of environmentally costly fossil fuels.
Additionally, developed countries need to do more to deploy the existing technology and cut back
on the wasteful energy expenditures that go along with our creature comforts.

" The U.S. green building market is accelerating at a dramatic rate, potentially tripling over the next
five years." "Report confirms a fivefold climb in the value of green building construction starts from
2005 to 2008, and cites prospects for the market reaching the $96 billion to $ 140 billion growth
range in five years". (Rock Products, 2010)
2. A Lean Modeling Protocol for Evaluating Green Project Delivery
"The first vital step to leaning an operation is to model or map the processes used to deliver
processes. This indicates where value–adding activity exists, and provides the foundation for
improvement."
"Research is beginning to show that delivery process features are a major factor in the increase of
first cost for green buildings (Mogge 2004), and that owners modifying the traditional project
delivery process to accommodate green buildings can reduce or eliminate their first cost increase for
green buildings (Lipinski 2005)."
" To achieve their performance benefits, green projects use intense interdisciplinary collaboration
during design, highly complex modeling and analysis, and careful material and system selection
particularly early in the project delivery process (Riley et al. 2004)."

certification process is wasteful and ineffective at achieving true green credibility. As a result, the
USGBC has continued to modify the L.E.E.D. certification process. There are five rating systems

Breakthrough Perspective on Green and Sustainable...
Buildings have been part of human life since the beginning of time, we depend of them to live,
learn, grown, for protection and shelter. The decisions we make today will not only affect our future
but our surrounding as well. We need buildings to survive the climates of the earth and to live our
own lives. Architecture is what nature cannot make, yet it is influenced by the rules of nature, as
humans evolved so did our way of thinking, and so did our architecture. Green architecture is a
breakthrough in human history, Green Architecture is more a more advanced way of building, it has

The LEED criteria are recognized as the building having a positive performance in five areas of
human and environmental health, therefore making the building safer and healthier to live in. When
we think sustainability, it's important that we consider the surrounding, for examples the trees, rivers
and lakes, streets, neighbors and more. The impact of architecture is not only for the building but for
its natural surroundings, by taking advantage of each natural source, to have the building sustain
itself in terms of reducing energy use, taking advantage of storm water and using that for flushing
toilets, using sun light to warm the room and so forth. Sustainability also refers to the life of the
building itself, how long will the building last after it's finished. Green buildings are made of
recyclable material that help the building last longer in structure, its feature is what make it unique
to last longer than average buildings.
Benefits of Green Buildings
Green Buildings have become more than just buildings; they have become a structural living
organism. Green Buildings offer a safer and healthier living environment for the occupants; this can
contribute to an increase in human lifespan, due to minimum exposure to chemical paint materials
and more. They also reduce energy bills due to the features incorporated such as solar panels, which
generate energy by solar radiation. An open glazing design building that offers maximum sunlight

"One World Trade Center's Costly Road to LEED Gold"
Giselle N. Gregory
Everglades University
Abstract
One World Trade Center is an ideal representation of what green building is. It is not to say that the
design and construction of this structure was not without its challenges. In this paper, I will discuss
the factors that qualified the building for LEED certification. I will also discuss the challenges the
building faced while pursuing this certification and what was done to overcome these challenges.
"One World Trade Center's Costly Road to LEED Gold"
One World Trade Center (OWTC) is undoubtedly the tallest building in the western hemisphere
(Bawaba, 2010). This carefully designed structure is the first building of its magnitude to aim for the
US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) gold
certification (West, 2014). With the expertise and experience of Tishman Construction, the world's
leader in sustainable building knowledge (Bawaba, 2010). OWTC was awarded the LEED Gold
v2.0 rating for multiple categories including several advanced energy and water saving technologies,
lighting, materials, transportation, air quality, and people (Facility Executive , 2016). Making this
work of art, the most environmentally sustainable building of its size, in the world (Contract 2010)

Explain The Corporate Social Responsibility Of Starbucks
To begin with, it is important to understand the meaning of a corporate social responsibility, which
"...is defined as the voluntary activities undertaken by a company to operate in an economic, social

The global development and globalization have increased the demand for social behavior towards
large companies to make them more responsible and more committed to their environment, which
has caused companies to become "Corporate Citizens" whose basic social responsibilities , ethical,
labor and environmental beyond profit maximization and its position on the markets; to act in a
transparently manner, helps companies to remain successful, particularly when they promote values

As many are aware, the LCBO is The Liquor Control Board of Ontario, it is an governmental
establishment that distributes and retails of alcoholic beverages in the province of Ontario. Due to
the fact that this establishment is government ran, much of its revenue is used for healthcare,
education and infrastructure; until 2007. They began Urban Environmental Management; as large
majority of the population resides in urban areas (also where most LCBO retail stores are located),
The LCBO began looking into sustainable urban development and took environmental responsibility
for their, carbon footprint, production of products, production of waste, and energy consumption,
etc. Their mission is to preserve and protect the environment for the future; to do so they had to pay
attention to the four key factors, urban form, transportation, energy and waste management
(Dearden, P., & Mitchell, B. 2009).
ABOUT INITIATIVE
This initiative is designed to make Ontario a better place to live. This is made possible with the
consideration of not only the health of the environment but the health of its people and
surroundings. This initiative began in 2007 with waste management, when this was proven a
success, the company broadened their horizons and looked at many more environmentally friendly
decisions they could make that would positively impact our future generations. For this initiative to

The Sustainability Of A Building
Politics is related to almost everything, and therefore, the economy also relates to almost everything.
Many things are done and decided based on the benefits received. Either through the great profit
they can make by using the limited resources we have or by using the resources we have excessively
and wastefully, without thinking of the consequences it will have on us and for later generations. It
is hard to find a balance between sustainability and our economy. Economic growth however, also
depends on a sustaining and functional environment. LEED is an organization that does not
successfully evaluate the sustainability of a building. Instead some other organizations does better at
evaluating in detail and continuously of how it is sustainable and how it has continued to be more
eco–friendly.
Politics is connected to natural resources, the issue of global warming, and sustainability. In order
for the economy to grow, it feeds on natural resources that produces waste and pollutes the earth and
the air. This threatens the environment and the eco–system in which our lives depend. The use of
natural resources exceeds the amount the earth can undertake and recover. And the foundation of all
our economic growth is built upon the counterbalance of the resources spent and recovered.
Therefore, it can be taken away anytime; when our planet can't supply and take the amount we are
asking from anymore, we would have lost everything, the economy, environment and our lives.

Green Buildings/Green Architecture
Introduction
A green building (also referred to as sustainable building or green construction) is a structure that
employs an approach that is responsible for the environment besides being efficient in regard to
resources all through its life cycle: This is from selecting the site to designing it, constructing,
operating, maintaining, renovating and demolishing it. To achieve this, the client, the engineers, the
architects and the entire design team closely cooperate at all stages of a project (Yan and Paliniotis,
2006). Practicing Green Building complements and expands the conventional building design areas
of comfort, durability, utility and economy.

Goals of green building
Sustainable development concepts can be said to have first surfaced in the 1970s, owing to pollution
of the environment concerns and energy (more so fossil oil) crisis. The movement of green building
therefore began from the desire and need for extra environmentally friendly and energy efficient
construction practices. There are several intentions of going green, including social, economic and
environmental benefits. Nonetheless, contemporary sustainability programmes advocate for a
synergistic and integrated design to both novel construction in addition to retrofitting of structures
that exist. This technique incorporates the life–cycle of the building with every green practice used
alongside a design–purpose to form a synergy among the practices used.
Green building is a collection of a wide scope of skill, techniques and practices to decrease and
eventually eradicate the impacts of structures on human health and the environment. It frequently
highlights maximising on renewable resources, for example, using sunlight via photovoltaic
techniques, active solar and passive solar and using trees and plants via rain gardens, green roofs
and for cutting back run–off from rain water. Many other approaches, such as use of wood as a
construction material, permeable concrete or packed gravel in place of asphalt or convectional
concrete to catalyze ground water replenishment, are

Sustainable Architecture Advantages And Disadvantages
With global warming, the world's attention on building energy efficiency is increasing. There are a
large proportion of architects recognised that the main factor of global warming is the use of
building energy generated by CO2. Sustainable architecture is involving methods that do not
completely use up or destroy natural resources. There are several major elements need to be
considered, such as technology, economy and Health . However, architects pay their greatest
attention to environment. Because environment is the fundamental factor of others and influence
humans' life . Sustainable architectures reduce the consumption of resources in order to save energy
for nature and also green buildings produce less pollution in order to save environment. Evidence
suggests that sustainable architectures are advantageous for environment.Whereas, other individuals
states that sustainable buildings get more drawbacks. This essay argues that the advantages of
sustainable architecture far outweigh the disadvantages in relation to technology , energy saving and
economy.
With the development of technology, the invention and evolution of different materials can bring out
more possibility of sustainable architecture. Different materials can be used to describe incredible
design which looks The sustainable materials tend to reduce energy consumption. For instance
architect use renewable materials (such as wood ) to replace the consumption of non–renewable
resources(such as original cement ).

These benefits can be accomplished for a minimum cost of around 3% of the construction price.
LEED buildings achieve higher occupancy rates and lower capitalization rates potentially reflecting
lower investment risk. These buildings use resources more efficiently compared to conventional
buildings simply built to code. The buildings produce a healthier work and living environments
which generally contribute to higher productivity and improved employee health and comfort which
in turn is more profits for the business occupying the building. When a LEED rating is pursued, the
costs of construction and design rises. There are many points in the construction process that will
need additional time for research, design and education is a process of undertaking a LEED project,

Overview and Work Breakdown Structure
One of the most significant characteristics of 725 Ponce is the large open–air space beneath the
office floors, where the new Kroger and green space will be located. In order to have a large enough
open–air space beneath the building, 39 large concrete columns are currently being built at the site,
which is a part of the construction of the foundation, as seen with the Work Breakdown Structure in
Figure 1. The first activity of this process is placing the rebar that will be located within each
column, and this activity looked nearly complete during our site visit. From looking at renderings of
725 Ponce, we estimate that each column will be about 30–feet tall; during our site visit, the rebar–
in–place looked approximately this tall, leading us to believe this construction activity is about 90%
complete.

Integration of LEED indoor environmental quality credits into BIM software to design educational
buildings with enhanced quality of indoor environment
Introduction & Background
According to the studies of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the level of pollutants
inside the building can be two to five times higher than the outdoor levels and these pollutants are
major cause of worry as majority of people invest their 90 percent of time in indoor activities (10).
The educational buildings are heavily occupied most of the time as they provide facilities like
classrooms, libraries, laboratories, etc. Hence, it is imperative to maintain indoor air quality of
important buildings like educational buildings considering they have such a large amount of
occupants.
The problems of indoor air quality in schools could be more serious than in other categories of
buildings, due to a higher occupant density and insufficient outside air supply (also ventilation),
worsened by often poor construction of school buildings (1). Generally a student is involved in a
classroom for about 1300 hours in one year and hence poor indoor environment of an educational
building can have a negative effect on a student (3).
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is being largely incorporated into
sustainable design and construction within the United States of America and in the various
categories of LEED there is one category which addresses to the problem of indoor air quality. The

Baywatch Movie Analysis
I chose to do the movie Baywatch for my assignment because I never saw it and it came out in 2017.
I liked this movie because it was an action–packed comedy but it wasn't the best movie I've seen. I
would defiantly give this movie a 6.5 out of ten. This is because there were some parts that were
funny but I didn't understand why they had to be put in the movie. This movie was placed in Florida
at the beach of Emerald Bay. In this movie, there were 2 main characters which are Mitch, played by
Dwayne Johnson, and Matt Brody, played Zac Efron. This movie started off intense. Someone one
was drowning and Mitch and his team of lifeguards helped save a man from the water and bring him
back to life. You can see that Mitch is very well known around these parts and that he would always
try to do more than his job description. While he was going for a run he found drugs that washed up
on the shore. He knew what drug it was and knew it was killing people. After that is when Mitch
met his maker when they were having lifeguard tryouts. One of those people trying out was Matt
Brody. Matt Brody was a guy who grew up in the foster care system going home to home and was
used to doing things for himself and by himself. He was known for winning 2 Olympic gold medals

However, it is not an easy task to become LEED Certified and accredited, people are accredited
while buildings are certified (U.S. Green Building Council). In the next section, I will go into detail
regarding the important rating system and what impacts the rating system has on LEED. The LEED
Rating System The USGBC established The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) in order
to provide a series of exams to allow individuals to become accredited for their knowledge of the
LEED rating system. This is recognized through either the LEED Accredited Professional (LEED

certification for projects pursuing LEED certification. The main distinction between these three
levels is that LEED AP is a higher form of LEED Green Assoc for people being accredited, while
third–party certification is for buildings to be certified (U.S. Green Building Council). For every
building type, there is a Rating System and a comparative Reference Guide. Within the individual
LEED Rating Systems there are Categories. Within these Categories are prerequisites and credits.

Hotel Chain Of Hotels And Resorts
1 Introduction
Marriott group of hotels and resorts is an International leader in hotel Industry owning more than
3700 properties making it one of the broadest range of brand portfolio holders in the world. Marriott
chain of hotels was founded by Mr. J. Williard Marriott in the year 1950 when he started with two
motels. The first motel was established as an airport motel near Washington and served as a quality
Inn while the second motel was set up near the Twin Bridges a few years later. The second motel
gave Marriott the much desired brand name and Marriott took off one of the most successful hotel
chains and never looked back.
2 Context and Research Rationale
The research problem is based on the study of green or environmentally friendly strategies adopted
by one of the top hotels in UK– Marriott hotel, Regents park London and whether such strategies
have an effect on some intangible variables of marketing such as guest behaviour and guest
satisfaction or loyalty.
The answer to why is this a research problem is because hotels usually have positive attitude
towards green strategies but they do not see it as a viable marketing strategy, which impacts their
core competency in the business. Most of the big organisations follow green strategy to play it safe
rather than using it as an effective guest retention strategy. There is a gap in the research done
towards identifying the relationship between adopting green strategy and its impact on business

Green Building Negatives
By the definition of sustainability, it is the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level. When
talking about sustainability through the environment, sustainability has another meaning. It's the
avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain and ecological balance.
Anything with the word green is often associated with the label environmental friendly. Did you
ever wonder if green buildings are worth the cause or even worth the amount of money it takes to
fund? There are many benefits and negatives for green buildings.
A green building is the "act of making a building more eco–friendly with certain technology that is
currently available" (Simple mom). A benefit that comes with building a green building is that they
are designed to have more efficient technology than regular buildings. The green buildings are
supposed to be healthier and more comfortable environment to live in. Some of the technology
created for these building is to use renewable energy, reduce waste buildup, and to cut down on
heating and cooling expense. Unlike regular buildings, green buildings require low maintenance.
There is no need for any paint jobs to the building and also the life cycle for building are 50– 100
years old the price of building goes down with green buildings installment of solar panels leads to
higher resales and strong investments (LaborLawCaenter).

It proves to many people that you have achieved your environmental goals. Having a LEED
Certification means that you have many government incentives, marketing benefits, and increased
property values, which can help, boost the presses interest in your current project. Building green
can also greatly reduce the cost to construction managers and tenants (USGBC, 2008). There are
four different levels of certification that you can achieve. These are: Certified, Silver, Gold, and
Platinum. Each level has its own special incentives to it. To gain a higher ranking you must
accumulate credits. To accumulate credits you must have certain standards in your projects that
benefit the environment. These consist of sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere,
materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality (GBCI, 2008). Green Buildings can help
the earth in so many ways. Being certified means that you build more environmentally friendly,
which means that building green friendly can reduce the negative effect buildings and operations
have on the environment. Also green building greatly decreases the chances of fire, explosions,
spills or splashes. Building green also reduces health problems such as allergies. Finally, if you're

Essay On Architecture Is A Lot More Than Blueprints

  • 1. Essay On Architecture Is A Lot More Than Blueprints Architecture: A lot more than Blueprints In early prehistoric times, the discovery of caves proved to provide great protection against severe weather for early man, although offered less protection against wild animals, making this type of shelter somewhat unlivable. As a result, to provide better protection against nature and wildlife, man discovered that the use of natural materials such as stones, bones, and tree branches offered a more reliable domicile. Due to the nonconformity of living conditions, man learned how to use different tools to build better structures; looking for better stability, security, and conformity. As time progressed, the ability to create, design and construct shelters, houses, and buildings has been defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, for older established architects learning new designs programs could be challenging and as a result their business could lack the edge to prosper entirely. Another option is to hire a designer, however hiring more employees becomes another expense in addition to the expense of brand new programs that an established architect might not have initially accounted for. With so many advances in technology and now the concern for more sustainable building construction, established architects may have a difficult time adjusting to technological advances. Although learning new programs isn't a necessity, it proves to provide an edge for futuristic architects. Moreover, while some new aged advancements can be beneficial to the architectural world, some progressions like greener buildings, although seemingly valuable, have been up for discussion, as well on whether or not the right guidelines are being adhered by. The architectural industry is facing another major challenge in the field of sustainability. Sustainable architecture must adhere to the US Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). This movement, also referred to as green building, focuses on utilizing sustainable resources to increase an overall better wellness of its inhabitants, while reducing harmful effects on the environment. In addition, the focus of green building has expanded to help prevent pollution, control waste, and conserve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Green Rating... I. INTRODUCTION Sustainability has now become a necessity in the urban environment. This is especially important in Malaysia, where the urban population is almost 75%. It is also situated in an equatorial and tropical climate region where increase urbanization will also increased warming of the land. Green building practices can substantially reduce or eliminate negative environmental impacts through good design, construction and operation. As an added benefit, green operations and management can reduce operating costs, enhance building marketability, increase workers' productivity, and reduce potential liability resulting from indoor air quality problems(5). There are various types of green building rating system available globally. Among the well–known rating systems are LEED, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the may incur some high initial costs, the green certification can produce significant cost savings in the long run. This could, in turn, lead to increased profits. Since the GBI certification in Malaysia has only been around for under 5 years, it is difficult to accurately quantify the cost savings. However, we can consider some examples of GBI in other countries to illustrate this. One of the main criteria of the GBI is 'energy efficiency'. This is congruent with green building systems in other places as well. For example, in the Crowne Plaza in New york, hotel managers changed all incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescent (CFL). While the cost of purchasing the new bulbs was significant, the long– term savings quickly offset these costs. The hotel spent almost $27,000 to change their bulbs, but expect to save more than $120,000 per year in electrical costs and $20,000 per year in labor. This is because the new bulbs use less energy and have a longer life span so they do not need to be changed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Importance Of Environmental Problems In The World Environmental problems are known to be a "Wicked problem" because there are so many sides one must please, and ultimately never solve. From power, transportation, food scarcity; each one of these face technological and government borders. The fact is it is hard to make people agree, it is truly remarkable that the United Nations still stands and operates today when so many earlier versions of it have failed. Still when countries are not at war together, their own country is not revolution, the topic of the environment takes center stage. Because events like global warming are not one country's problem, btu everyone's as humans are all connected by the same ocean. Brining in environmentally friendly buildings, to working with municipalities, schools, and communities to become more green. How the ever growing population leads to more problems, and above all how one teacher can make a difference in so many student's lives. The world is forever changing, which is why humans have to change with it, and what not better time to change when one leaves the comfort of their parents and embark of to their first grand adventure to university. Dalhousie University prides itself on owning the Mona Campbell Building which earned Gold for its LEED certification. LEED which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a program that rates buildings on how 'green' the building is, going from a certification, silver, gold to platinum which needs to score 80 points out of the 100 ... • 13. Sustainability Is Not Green What is sustainability? In contemporary design, sustainability is a furious warrior under a green coat. People usually attribute sustainability with the color "green," essence of nature or love and care for mother earth. In the context of construction, this means placing plants in buildings, installing green roofs and use local construction materials. Sustainability is much more than a green coat concept draped over buildings. Sustainability is strong, a courageous idea that would change the future. To sustain is to withstand and endure without "giving away." A sustainable civilization should not empty natural resources and endanger the environment. To sustain is "...to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Preservation runs parallel with the concept of sustainability. To sustain is to preserve the current. To Sustain is to discard the idea of wastefulness. Concern about the environment and preservation of natural resource had become a heated debate among citizens, designers, and politics. United States alone uses a significant among of world's energy and produces a great amount of greenhouse gas. According to U.S. Department of Energy's EIA for 2007, commercial and residential buildings consume about 40 percent of the energy usage in the United States. Building constructions plays an important role in sustainable development and environmental preservation because building life cycle starts with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Global Warming And The United Arab Emirates INTRODUCTION The United Arab Emirates, alongside the rest of the Gulf has reached its limit of 'natural sustainability'. Designing for a sustainable future is no longer a choice but a necessity. The Gulf waters pose an ecological concern due to extensive offshore drilling, as well as the massive oil tanker and merchant shipping traffic, which constitute the life of the region. As development propels population growth along its shore and recreational tourism increases, the ecological well–being of the inter–tidal zones and their sea life need to be safeguarded. Global warming and the predicted rise in water levels will also impact coastal developments. There is therefore an urgent need for an integrated land/sea strategy of sustainable growth along regional/global dimensions. (Al–Manakh Book) Since the discovery of oil in the 1960s, the UAE and notably Dubai has experienced dramatic development, which skyrocketed in the 1990s and still continues to this day. This economic and population boom has naturally had negative consequences on resource security and environmental sustainability and the problem is currently too evident to ignore. (Luomi 2014) The region also witnesses a highly consumer–orientated culture where much of the lifestyle comes at the expense of the environment. Dubai is said to have one of the highest per capita levels of resource consumption and ecological footprints in the world (Visser & Tolhurst 2010). • 21. Implementing Sustainable Efforts For Green Initiatives By incorporating sustainable efforts that encourage green initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment, the P–Man Mall redevelopment can provide long–term benefits for UM Investments and the surrounding community. Improving and revitalizing this property will increase profitability with the increased consumer traffic, reduce operational costs with green initiatives, and attract additional businesses to the location. The firm has allocated $20 million in calendar year 2016 for a project that will benefit the community, associated stakeholders, and organizational investment of the company. Strategic Plan After analyzing and documenting economical forecast models and profitability trends with various properties pending future renovations, the firm has chosen to proceed with the redevelopment of P–Man Mall. The company chose this project because it will provide the surrounding community of Coolsberg, Maryland with an economical enhancement for families and businesses. The overhead costs for this project will be subsidized by the tax increment reimbursements provided by the city to provide incentivized returns on the sustainable upgrades proposed in the project planning. The project is anticipated to provide a profitable return on the existing investment and future business needs. • 25. Green Benefits And Energy Savings Elastomeric Roof Coating | Commercial Roofing Fort Worth Green Benefits and Energy Savings A roof coating provides a monolithic, fully adhered, fluid applied roofing membrane with flexible properties that allows it to expand and contract with the temperature without incurring damage. It can be applied over any commercial roof substrate, curing to form a seamless 100% acrylic elastomeric membrane engineered to seal the entire roof, prolonging the roof life. The benefits of a "cool roof" elastomeric roof coating are tremendous for both your building and its commercial roofing in Fort Worth. In the following, we look at some of those benefits. ELASTOMERIC COATING BENEFITS Roof Protection Elastomeric coatings seal the roof surface providing protection from rain and wind damage. By keeping the commercial roofing in Fort Worth cool, elastomeric coating resists deterioration from the sun and weather that can result in hardening and cracking on other traditional roofs, resulting in a longer lasting, leak proof, and almost maintenance free roof. Roof coatings provide a monolithic (seamless) roof, and when properly installed can solve the problem of leaks on almost any roofing substrate, including metal roofs. Cost Effective A white elastomeric roof coating system costs less than the installation of a traditional new roof system. Furthermore, building owners won 't have the costs of dump fees associated with removal of the existing roofing systems. Energy Efficiency White is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Gentrification Is A General Term For The Expansion Of... Gentrification is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district's character and culture. The word draws controversy not only in its definition and meaning but also in the impact it has among human social life. It is a practice that is of ancient origin and has withstood the challenges of evolving times and is still practiced in the contemporary world. Proposers and opponents alike of the gentrifying phenomena take advantage of the numerous myths and misconceptions that surround the practice to advance their arguments. Urban planners have rooted for the inclusion of gentrification as one of the pillars of urban growth. With better economic status– better roads, better water supply system, better healthcare, reduced criminal activities and an overall uplifting of the quality of life economically– it is hard to argue against an overall gain from gentrification. Yet with all this, it has been the source of a lot of widespread animosity between social classes. It has also been blamed for a lot of cultural values erosion with in some instances complete override of the indigenous ways of life that the original inhabitants subscribed to. Green development is an urban development approach that utilizes green infrastructural growth and is aimed at alleviating negative impacts, or ideally have a net positive impact, on the environment and nearby ecosystems. • 33. Green Energy Essay With an abundance of government–funded tax breaks and subsidies available to encourage buildings to go green, it is no wonder why so many companies are interested in converting their real estate into energy efficient areas. The ability to win a multi–million dollar tax break is quite a motivator, but just how much are these companies really doing to turn their properties green? It turns out that many will do the bare minimum to win over this green certification, and most end up using just as much energy as they previously did. This is why a recertification effort needs to be done conducted to ensure that green buildings are truly energy efficient and are not just products of managers looking to save a few dollars. Such a project can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that they can do very little to do so by only taking the smallest steps needed to get 40 total points. They can do this by creating pleasant and healthy office spaces, using common building materials, providing parking for fuel–efficient vehicles, implementing bike racks and showers, and posting educational displays (Schnaars and Morgan). None of these actions actually reduce emissions or make a building greener, but if a company completes enough of them, they can win over subsidies regardless of how little effort they have put in. It is not just LEED that has been promoting this mindset of only carrying out a bare minimum effort. Organizations in existence such as the U.S. Green Building Council were created to help guide companies to achieve green certification through the cheapest means possible. It has advised universities to achieve green points by offering courses on green building, told employers to give workers a video game room and fitness center, and instructed builders to create fire–alarm systems that minimize the stress on firefighters all with the intention to buy easy points (Schnaars and Morgan). Considering that a building only needs 40 of these points to be considered green, it seems much too easy for them to achieve green certification by doing things that barely make them green at all. Starbucks 10k星巴克财务分析报告.Pdf Starbucks Global Responsibility Report – Goals and Progress 2011 Year in Review: Fiscal 2011 From our beginning as a single store in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971, we have sought to be a catalyst for positive change in the many communities we serve. Now, with more than 17,000 stores in more than 55 countries and a growing business in consumer packaged goods, we find our reach is greater than ever. Just as important, we continue to believe that the ultimate way to scale the power of our brand is to share the good we do and how we do it so that Starbucks and everyone we touch – from customers to coffee farmers – can thrive and endure. Just as the Starbucks Experience continues to fulfill a universal need for personal connection, we have continued to use our scale for good in ways that go beyond our stores. Create Jobs for USA provides an exciting example of how we can positively impact communities through innovative and authentic approaches to pressing problems. In just a matter of weeks, Starbucks turned our own feelings of frustration during a time of unprecedented high national unemployment into a tangible program with the Opportunity Finance Network to help spur job growth, neighborhood by neighborhood. Through more than $7 million in donations and the distribution of more than 430,000 "Indivisible" wristbands in our stores, it is estimated that the program has helped to create and sustain more than 2,300 jobs in the program's first three months. In Sendai, Japan last October, I met with partners from more than 50 Starbucks stores who were most impacted by the horrific earthquake and tsunami. I was awe struck by their personal stories of strength and courage, as well as grateful for the hundreds of hours that our partners provided to support the recovery efforts for their neighbors and for the financial assistance Starbucks was able to provide through the Red Cross. The modern lifestyle, full of one time use items and pollution generating machines, harming our environment is common knowledge, and, without a plan, the death of our planet is certain. Environmentalist and author, Derrick Jensen uses a comparison of possible outcomes to persuade his readers to take action that would help stop climate change; political resistance is his preferred and recommended course of action for his readers. Throughout his essay, "Forget Shorter Showers", Jensen makes clear his desire to reduce or even reverse the effects industrialization: He suggests an approach where society makes changes to industry and to government over the current methods of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Simple living" even at its most extreme would not be enough to save the planet, according to Jensen; "Simple living" is an active choice made by individuals to reduce their carbon footprint through voluntary reduce, reuse, and recycle methods. The author expands on these ideas when he cites Kirkpatrick Sale; "The whole individualist what–you–can–do–to–save–the–Earth guilt trip is a myth. We, as individuals, are not creating the crises, and we can't solve them" (Jensen , pg. 478). This means that individual effort can only go so far toward rebuilding the global ecosystem. Instead, there needs to be a greater response from the groups that cause the bulk of the issues. Changes in Governmental, corporate and agricultural organizations are imperative. Most importantly, we need to have major technological breakthroughs in these sectors to stop the damage being done to the planet. Current sources of renewable energy are great ideas, but are cost prohibitive and inefficient, making widespread use impossible for most developing countries. Developing countries need new advances in lower cost energy to break their dependencies, of environmentally costly fossil fuels. Additionally, developed countries need to do more to deploy the existing technology and cut back on the wasteful energy expenditures that go along with our creature comforts. One way ... The LEED criteria are recognized as the building having a positive performance in five areas of human and environmental health, therefore making the building safer and healthier to live in. When we think sustainability, it's important that we consider the surrounding, for examples the trees, rivers and lakes, streets, neighbors and more. The impact of architecture is not only for the building but for its natural surroundings, by taking advantage of each natural source, to have the building sustain itself in terms of reducing energy use, taking advantage of storm water and using that for flushing toilets, using sun light to warm the room and so forth. Sustainability also refers to the life of the building itself, how long will the building last after it's finished. Green buildings are made of recyclable material that help the building last longer in structure, its feature is what make it unique to last longer than average buildings. Benefits of Green Buildings Green Buildings have become more than just buildings; they have become a structural living organism. Green Buildings offer a safer and healthier living environment for the occupants; this can contribute to an increase in human lifespan, due to minimum exposure to chemical paint materials and more. It is hard not to when you are raised in an environment with lush green landscapes that encompass one of the most eco–friendly cities in the world. Trump signed a long–promised executive order in March to nullify President Barack Obama's climate change efforts and revive the coal industry, effectively ceding American leadership in the international campaign to curb the dangerous heating of the planet. At a ceremony, Mr. Trump directed the Environmental Protection Agency to start the complex and lengthy legal process of withdrawing and rewriting the Obama–era Clean Power Plan, which would have closed hundreds of coal–fired power plants and replaced them with vast new wind and solar farms (Rubin). Many things are done and decided based on the benefits received. Either through the great profit they can make by using the limited resources we have or by using the resources we have excessively and wastefully, without thinking of the consequences it will have on us and for later generations. It is hard to find a balance between sustainability and our economy. Economic growth however, also depends on a sustaining and functional environment. LEED is an organization that does not successfully evaluate the sustainability of a building. Instead some other organizations does better at evaluating in detail and continuously of how it is sustainable and how it has continued to be more eco–friendly. Politics is connected to natural resources, the issue of global warming, and sustainability. In order for the economy to grow, it feeds on natural resources that produces waste and pollutes the earth and the air. This threatens the environment and the eco–system in which our lives depend. The use of natural resources exceeds the amount the earth can undertake and recover. And the foundation of all our economic growth is built upon the counterbalance of the resources spent and recovered. Therefore, it can be taken away anytime; when our planet can't supply and take the amount we are asking from anymore, we would have lost everything, the economy, environment and our lives. The movement of green building therefore began from the desire and need for extra environmentally friendly and energy efficient construction practices. There are several intentions of going green, including social, economic and environmental benefits. Nonetheless, contemporary sustainability programmes advocate for a synergistic and integrated design to both novel construction in addition to retrofitting of structures that exist. This technique incorporates the life–cycle of the building with every green practice used alongside a design–purpose to form a synergy among the practices used. Green building is a collection of a wide scope of skill, techniques and practices to decrease and eventually eradicate the impacts of structures on human health and the environment. It frequently highlights maximising on renewable resources, for example, using sunlight via photovoltaic techniques, active solar and passive solar and using trees and plants via rain gardens, green roofs and for cutting back run–off from rain water. Many other approaches, such as use of wood as a construction material, permeable concrete or packed gravel in place of asphalt or convectional concrete to catalyze ground water replenishment, are ... • 112. Sustainable Architecture Advantages And Disadvantages With global warming, the world's attention on building energy efficiency is increasing. There are a large proportion of architects recognised that the main factor of global warming is the use of building energy generated by CO2. Sustainable architecture is involving methods that do not completely use up or destroy natural resources. There are several major elements need to be considered, such as technology, economy and Health . However, architects pay their greatest attention to environment. Because environment is the fundamental factor of others and influence humans' life . Sustainable architectures reduce the consumption of resources in order to save energy for nature and also green buildings produce less pollution in order to save environment. Evidence suggests that sustainable architectures are advantageous for environment.Whereas, other individuals states that sustainable buildings get more drawbacks. This essay argues that the advantages of sustainable architecture far outweigh the disadvantages in relation to technology , energy saving and economy. With the development of technology, the invention and evolution of different materials can bring out more possibility of sustainable architecture. Different materials can be used to describe incredible design which looks The sustainable materials tend to reduce energy consumption. For instance architect use renewable materials (such as wood ) to replace the consumption of non–renewable resources(such as original cement ). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These benefits can be accomplished for a minimum cost of around 3% of the construction price. LEED buildings achieve higher occupancy rates and lower capitalization rates potentially reflecting lower investment risk. These buildings use resources more efficiently compared to conventional buildings simply built to code. The buildings produce a healthier work and living environments which generally contribute to higher productivity and improved employee health and comfort which in turn is more profits for the business occupying the building. When a LEED rating is pursued, the costs of construction and design rises. There are many points in the construction process that will need additional time for research, design and education is a process of undertaking a LEED project, these additional costs can be effectively mitigated by the savings in time due to the lower – than – industry standard operating costs. LEED projects have specific documentation requirements such as: A. Applications are reviewed by a third party based on a series of templates and spreadsheets provided by the project team B. More in detail, the design involves large efficient floor plates (iron/steel) and high–end finishes. The construction will involve the use of materials such as reinforced concrete and steel for the structure, the stairway, and other significant spaces. The exterior toughened glass of the building is also a key material. [Still missing information on which type of glass will be used]. The building itself will have a mezzanine floor that will divide the office lobby and the parking areas. Construction Activities Overview and Work Breakdown Structure One of the most significant characteristics of 725 Ponce is the large open–air space beneath the office floors, where the new Kroger and green space will be located. In order to have a large enough open–air space beneath the building, 39 large concrete columns are currently being built at the site, which is a part of the construction of the foundation, as seen with the Work Breakdown Structure in Figure 1. The first activity of this process is placing the rebar that will be located within each column, and this activity looked nearly complete during our site visit. From looking at renderings of 725 Ponce, we estimate that each column will be about 30–feet tall; during our site visit, the rebar– in–place looked approximately this tall, leading us to believe this construction activity is about 90% complete. • 128. Design Educational Buildings With Enhanced Quality Of... Integration of LEED indoor environmental quality credits into BIM software to design educational buildings with enhanced quality of indoor environment Introduction & Background According to the studies of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the level of pollutants inside the building can be two to five times higher than the outdoor levels and these pollutants are major cause of worry as majority of people invest their 90 percent of time in indoor activities (10). The educational buildings are heavily occupied most of the time as they provide facilities like classrooms, libraries, laboratories, etc. Hence, it is imperative to maintain indoor air quality of important buildings like educational buildings considering they have such a large amount of occupants. The problems of indoor air quality in schools could be more serious than in other categories of buildings, due to a higher occupant density and insufficient outside air supply (also ventilation), worsened by often poor construction of school buildings (1). Generally a student is involved in a classroom for about 1300 hours in one year and hence poor indoor environment of an educational building can have a negative effect on a student (3). LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is being largely incorporated into sustainable design and construction within the United States of America and in the various categories of LEED there is one category which addresses to the problem of indoor air quality. Implementing green techniques and products into existing homes and communities is not only more economical but also supported by government programs; however, due to lack of education, cost, and willingness on the part of the consumer, implementing these changes takes time. Now that spring is here, homeowners are taking action and cleaning house, both inside and outside, getting rid of old items that no longer function well, while making repairs along the way. As a result, homeowners are finding that there are more economic variables to consider in this new Millennium, as we shift our concerns toward green living and making sustainable1(MIRIAM) improvements. Home Depot, a National Big box retailer, announced February, 2011 that "it will hire more than 60,000 seasonal associates in time for the Company's second annual Spring Black Friday event",(Home Depot ) in anticipation of an expected increase in purchases by these homeowners. Financially, a savvy homeowner finds that making home improvements in the long run leads to increasing the value of the home. The question today most people are asking is, 'how beneficial is it to renovate my home with the new energy efficient, green and sustainable' products, or should I just make a few repairs and paint the house?' There are several inexpensive steps that are easily implemented for turning a home green. The most effective way is to start by 'sealing the envelope' and making improvements on insulation performance with an energy audit The EPA provides a financial and environmental incentive by setting up certifications with remodeling companies to "run the envelope test" and show the homeowner what upgrade to consider to stop energy leaks by sealing or replacing windows and doors, upgrading plumbing and electrical outlets, and cutting down on "energy vampires" by replacing electric outlets, and plugging in appliances to surge ... • 136. Baywatch Movie Analysis I chose to do the movie Baywatch for my assignment because I never saw it and it came out in 2017. I liked this movie because it was an action–packed comedy but it wasn't the best movie I've seen. I would defiantly give this movie a 6.5 out of ten. This is because there were some parts that were funny but I didn't understand why they had to be put in the movie. This movie was placed in Florida at the beach of Emerald Bay. In this movie, there were 2 main characters which are Mitch, played by Dwayne Johnson, and Matt Brody, played Zac Efron. This movie started off intense. Someone one was drowning and Mitch and his team of lifeguards helped save a man from the water and bring him back to life. You can see that Mitch is very well known around these parts and that he would always try to do more than his job description. While he was going for a run he found drugs that washed up on the shore. He knew what drug it was and knew it was killing people. After that is when Mitch met his maker when they were having lifeguard tryouts. One of those people trying out was Matt Brody. Matt Brody was a guy who grew up in the foster care system going home to home and was used to doing things for himself and by himself. He was known for winning 2 Olympic gold medals for swimming and when he was racing during a relay he vomited in the water and earned the nickname "vomit comet". However, it is not an easy task to become LEED Certified and accredited, people are accredited while buildings are certified (U.S. Green Building Council). In the next section, I will go into detail regarding the important rating system and what impacts the rating system has on LEED. The LEED Rating System The USGBC established The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) in order to provide a series of exams to allow individuals to become accredited for their knowledge of the LEED rating system. This is recognized through either the LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or LEED Green Associate (LEED Green Assoc.) alias. GBCI also provides third–party certification for projects pursuing LEED certification. The main distinction between these three levels is that LEED AP is a higher form of LEED Green Assoc for people being accredited, while third–party certification is for buildings to be certified (U.S. Green Building Council). For every building type, there is a Rating System and a comparative Reference Guide. Within the individual LEED Rating Systems there are Categories. Within these Categories are prerequisites and credits. Prerequisites are required of all LEED projects, and credits are points that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The second motel gave Marriott the much desired brand name and Marriott took off one of the most successful hotel chains and never looked back. 2 Context and Research Rationale The research problem is based on the study of green or environmentally friendly strategies adopted by one of the top hotels in UK– Marriott hotel, Regents park London and whether such strategies have an effect on some intangible variables of marketing such as guest behaviour and guest satisfaction or loyalty. The answer to why is this a research problem is because hotels usually have positive attitude towards green strategies but they do not see it as a viable marketing strategy, which impacts their core competency in the business. Most of the big organisations follow green strategy to play it safe rather than using it as an effective guest retention strategy.
