Rubbermaid Acquisition Summary
Newell
The Newell Company was looking for a new corporate strategy that would allow them to have the
opportunity to grow through an expansion of their markets. CEO at the time was John
McDonough at Newell and there were a few acquisitions that contributed to strategic steps in
expanding the company also known as their The Newellization Process . Newell s focus was to
acquire more than thirty major businesses within the next twenty years. A merger with
Rubbermaid, would allow Newell to gain market share value to surpass $10 billion and that would
be critical for Newell s reach of capitalization in the market. Rubbermaid at the time was known for
their success in product innovation, their brand equity and significant amount of shelf space in
retailers. Newell believed that the Rubbermaid acquisition would help them achieve their goal. But
was this the right decision for Newell? Rubbermaid gained a bad reputation once the resin prices
began to rise in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some problems with the acquisition is that Rubbermaid is one of the larger companies that Newell
has associated with, meaning that the Newellization process would take time and focus away from
other areas of the business. Many customers and retailers have complained about their service they
ve provided. According to a major retailer, They ve been such lousy shippers. Not on time, terrible
fill rates, and their product costs too much. They show you a new product line and then tell you
they can ship only a third of what you want (Montgomery). With Rubbermaid s reputation
plummeting, this could also have a negative effect on Newell s reputation as well.

Mexico s Economic And Political Influence In Latin America
Mexico is a country between the North America and Central America. Its known for its beaches and

What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against...

Short Paper 1

What Does Plantinga s Evolutionary Argument Against Naturalism Say?
Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people
believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively,
he argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior.
Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He
brought up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s
argument is that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. He says the people who
believe the two, evolution and naturalism, go hand in hand should reevaluate its soundness; and
hence, withhold approval from all other beliefs including evolutionary naturalism, said to be self
defeating (316). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He notes that nearly all naturalists are also materialists with respect to human beings, because
human beings are materials. A main idea of materialists is that a person is simply their body.

How NAFTA has affected the financial service industries...
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was enacted in November of 1993 with
aims to facilitate the free flow of goods, services and labor between the United States, Canada and
Mexico. The ratification of NAFTA created the world s largest free market with roughly 390
million consumers and an estimated total output of $8.6 trillion. Clearly, this trade alliance has had
a major influence on the financialservice industries of the participating nations and will continue to
do so in the future. However, the financial service provisions of NAFTA will have sufficiently
greater implications for Mexico than either the United States or Canada. This is in part because
Mexico is embarking upon a greater shift towards openness in its... Show more content on

These had left U.S. banks relatively less competitive in the world market. Since the Gramm Leach
Bliley Act (1999) amended the Glass Steagall Act, many financial institutions have made steps
towards offering a full range of financial services and greatly increased their market share.
Overall, the U.S. advantage from NAFTA is its virtually unlimited access to the Mexican market,
which has been an incentive for the United States to restructure its domestic banking system. In the
long run, NAFTA will help develop U.S. banking to compete not only in the NAFTA area but in
other world markets as well. Another benefit of NAFTA will be increased opportunities for U.S.
and Canadian financial service companies (via the joint venture route), which will necessitate
foreign companies to overcome cultural and language barriers. A wide variety of U.S. firms with
existing investments in Mexico will be able to acquire previously prohibited majority ownership,
including 100 percent ownership, in their investments. New U.S. entrants in many Mexican markets
may start their own wholly owned firms in Mexico
The greatest effect that the NAFTA financial service agreement has had on Canada is the
liberalization of their financial sector. Many banks and financial institutions have been increasing in
size through mergers and acquisitions. In 2001, the Royal Bank of Canada acquired Centura Banks
and its 240

I believe in dogs. I believe in dogs of all breeds sizes and color. Dogs can make you smile on the

The Legalization Of All Drugs
The legalization of all drugs considered illegal in the United States today would do more than any
other act to eradicate current social and political problems. Though many would naturally think
otherwise, legalizing drugs like marijuana, ecstasy, meth, cocaine, heroin, mushrooms, LSD, and
DMT would cripple organized crime, majorly reduce death and injury from druguse, unclog the
court system, and make these drugsmuch safer to use.
Contrary to popular belief, the legalization of all drugs would make the streets a much safer place.
Addicts must pay hundreds of times the actual cost of production because of the risk dealers and
manufacturers have in production and distribution, so they often need to resort to crime to pay for
their addiction. If drugs were legalized, the price would greatly reduce and addicts won t have to
commit crime to support their habit. Some addicts don t make enough money to purchase their
expensive fix, and feel they have no other choice but to break the law. If dugs were legalized and
regulated, the price would go down drastically because there would be no more risk involved. A
few grams of cocaine could be as easy to obtain and as affordable as a pack of cigarettes. Addicts
would no longer need to commit crime to obtain their drugs. Some would say though, that drug
related offences would still exist. For example, if drugs were legal for anyone over 21, there would
be a demand for those younger, and drug related crime would still exist. Is this not

Survivor Paper In everyone s life there will be different moments and events that they will have
to survive. Some events may be considered harder to survive, but for every situation that person
will have to figure out their own way to survive. One of the most current and prominent events
that I have had to survive this past year was the Section Swimming and Diving Meet. Along with
this I also had to survive learning how to get rid of an internal conflict that I have which was a
lot more difficult than it sounds. Leading up to the Section Meet I already knew what was
expected of me and the other divers. I also knew that I wanted the entire meet to go perfectly. The
main reason for this is because I consider ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I knew that I really didn t want to smack. I again reminded myself of my goals. By the time warm
ups were done I already felt pretty tired, but I knew that I would have to endure, power through,
and survive the day. Throughout the morning session of the meet I was doing pretty good. All
of my dives ended up being pretty consistent, and for the dives that weren t great I was able to
move on even though it may have been difficult. Moving on from bad dives I had done was
probably one of the hardest parts of the meet. I also didn t let all the other girls who may have
had better dives get in my head and impact my diving. I didn t compare what place I was in to
what my teammates or other divers were placed. I was happy for how I was doing, and I was
actually feeling very confident. I was thrilled when my coach told me that I had made the
second cut. Sadly, the afternoon session of the meet did not go quite as well. For my second to
last dive I over rotated. The result of this is a failed dive or a very low scored dive. It was very
difficult for me to not start crying. That one dive had destroyed my chances of getting the personal
best I d been so close to achieving. I am proud to say that I was able to keep it together and finish
the meet with a good dive. By then I was exhausted, but I had made it through the meet without
letting that show. After my last dive I noticed how throughout the entire meet I hadn t compared

Restorative Justice Model And Domestic Violence
Introduction Beginning in the late 1960 s there began a shift in societal values from punishment
of criminal behavior towards addressing the needs of the victims of crime. The questions being
asked shifted from what law was broken to who was hurt. (Calhoun, 2013) It can be said that even
today there still appears some controversy over the effectiveness and place of restorative justice
however it has begun to infiltrate legislation. In Kansas K.S.A. 21 5414 (Domestic Battery)
recently passed the requirement that all domestic violenceoffenders are required to undergo
assessment and treatment from a certified batterers intervention program; a form of restorative
justice. With this in mind the focus of subsequent discussion will be around defining terminology in
restorative justice and domestic violence, effectiveness and implications, use in social work case
management, and potential improvements to be made.
Description of Restorative Justice Model and Domestic Violence Offenders One of the major
roots founded in the core of restorative justice is the connection, no matter how damaging, that
links a victim to their offender. There is forever a connection developed between the victim and
offender despite the lack of a previous knowledge of each other. The practice of RJ has been
developed on three baselines; preparation, encounter, and follow up. During preparation the
provider focuses on explain accountability to the offender, focusing on the difference in

U.S. constructed the Bay of Pigs invasion, a CIA attempt to use anti Castro exiles to use a surprise

The United States surrounded Cuba to block off any deliveries from Russia. This led to the
Cuban Missile Crisis. Over years, Cuban people suffered from food shortages and no personal

The Attitude Of The Poem My Last Duchess By Robert Browning
9th Grade English Essay: Discuss the attitude of the poet towards the duchess in My Last Duchess
by Robert Browning
In the middle ages , the main topic used in poems was a nobleman, usually a knight in love with
a married woman and had to prove his devotion by heroic deeds and amorous writings . They
used blazon to emphasis the beautiful bodies of the women in those days. However, there was a
radical change in the Victorian times where prostitution became such a big issue. The poems
became darker and less courtly. In the poem, My last duchess by Robert Browning there was no
traditional blazon such as complementing the duchess body. Yet, the speaker who is also the Duke
talks about the women s body as the main justification for her assassination. The duke talks about
her smile as the reason for his jealousy and possessive obecession.
Robert Browning uses various literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of
devices, we are able to understand the feelings of the Duke towards the Duchess. The rhyme
scheme of this poem is organized in rhyming couplets (AABBCC) this is used to show the
relationship between him and the duchess (couplets) it may also be used to show is obecession
with controlling everything and having everything organized and planned. The lines are paired in
rhyming couplets, but these couplets are open which shows the Robert Browning uses various
literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of devices, we are

Homosexuality in Eighteenth Century England
Though same sex relationships have been a prominent aspect of many cultures almost since the
beginning of time, there has historically been a significant taboo surrounding the phenomenon in
the Western world. From the Fourteenth Century on, Western Europe was gripped by a rabid and
obsessive negative preoccupation with homosexuality as the most horrible of sins (Boswell 262).
The majority of people did not understand or accept the idea, and consequentially did not have an
appropriate way of talking about it. Over the years, as various cultures identified and even
implemented practices currently associated with homosexuality, there arose a need for common
terminology. Until the eighteenthcentury, it was referred to through the practices... Show more

This recognition of sodomy as the characterizing practice of homosexuals indicates society s
general disregard of women as homosexuals. It was apparently beyond the capability of most people
during the eighteenth century even to consider that women could engage in any practice so
unnatural and strange. Women, themselves, used this disbelief to their advantage, as in the case
of a woman suspected of homosexual involvement, a suspected Mistress Clap, who was asked by
a judge whether she had anything to say for herself. I hope it will be considered that I am a
woman, she replied briefly, and therefore it cannot be thought that I would ever be concerned with
such practices (Hyde 64).
Besides denying any involvement by women in such practices, one of the other beliefs commonly
held in England during the eighteenth century was that young boys learned, or were inadvertently
taught to be homosexual. One widely accepted belief blamed the teaching of such deviance on
their schooling. Male bonding in schools was crucial. Its result was radical female isolation and a
complex pattern of male friendship codes instilled by years of male bonding (Rousseau 144). In
another argument against schools in the charge of encouraging homosexual tendencies, An early
eighteenth century work called Plain Reasons for the Growth of Sodomy in England blames the
custom of sending young boys to kindergartens run by women for

Violence in Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Violence is one of the most exaggerated forms of physical aggression and it can exist for a series
of reasons. It involves a person or a group of persons acting against another person or groups of
persons with the purpose to achieve one or several diverse goals. In many cases violence results
from individuals perceiving the acts of other people as hostile and thus wanting to act against these
people before it is too late. Depending on the situation, more or less individuals might get involved
in an act of violence, especially when they consider that it would be essential for them to do so.
William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar provides audiences with an account involving the
Roman dictator Julius Caesar, the 44 B.C. conspiracy that resulted in his violent assassination, and
the continued violence that dominated Rome consequent to his death. In spite of the fact that the
play s title is Julius Caesar, Caesar s character only appears in three scenes. The tragedy s central
character is Marcus Brutus and most of the storyline relates to him and to his failure to understand
matters from a general perspective when he has the chance to do so. The play actually demonstrates
how violence can emerge from individuals misinterpreting behavior seen in others and the idea of
violence dominates most of the play, shaping the way that characters interact and think.
From the very first lines of the play audiences are presented with the character of Murellus. This
character s

Lenz, by Georg Buchner
In Buchner s Lenz , the protagonist is portrayed as a fallen man, disjointed from society and
mentally unstable. Buchner s portrays Lenz s fall into madness in his narrative style, the use of
realisation and the use of nature. Moreover, one can evaluate their effectiveness in portraying Lenz
s descent into madness.
By examining Buchner s narrative style, one can see that it is dissimilar to other German
Romantics. Where Von Kleist seems journalistic in The Marchioness of O.. the narrative in Lenz
appears as if it has been disrupted by the protagonist. For example when the narrator states but at
this time he found it annoying that he could not walk on his head , one can allude that this is Lenz
distorting the narrative with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the narrative style is not Buchner s only method for deconstructing the stability of
Lenz. Through a series of religious realisations, Lenz comes to question the power of God. When
delivering the sermon Lenz initially feels improved however it seemed to him that the universe
was full of wounds; this caused him deep unspeakable pain. One can infer that Lenz has realised
the suffering of those around him that questions his own reliance on religion as crutch. Moreover,
it could imply a lack of faith in God. It is after these religious realisations that Lenz has episodes of
madness.
He was alone, alone! The brook murmured, streams poured from his eyes, he hunched himself
together, his limbs quivered and he felt he must disintegrate, so endless was the voluptuous
pleasure of it. At last it dawned upon him: he felt a deep pity for himself, he wept for himself; his
head sank upon his breast and he fell asleep.
In this instance, hunched quivered and disintegrate connote unnatural movement that could infer
Lenz s mental state. Moreover, with the use of voluptuous pleasure one could allude that Lenz
was enjoying his suffering, as if he deserved it. Due to these attacks occurring after religious
realisations, one could imply that religion has a deep effect on Lenz s Psyche. It seems that as
Lenz becomes more

Questions The Necessity Of Free Will And Its Compatibility...
The fatalism framework assumes that human action is necessitated and therefore, it negates free
will. Fatalism questions the necessity of free will and its compatibility with divine foreknowledge.
Much of medieval philosophy returns to this question, attempting to reconcile these two seemingly
conflicting truths. The Law of Non Contradiction is one of logic s most fundamental ideas. It
claims that something can not be both true and not true. Under this law, no affirming statement can
negate itself. For example, an object cannot be both square and circular. They cannot exist within
the same context and so, a square circle is a contradiction. In Chapter 9 of De Interpretatione,
Aristotle discusses the problem of whether a sea battle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whichever is true, is true in the past. So, assuming there will be a sea battle tomorrow, it has
always been true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. And because the past in unalterable, it
implies that human action has no ability to make a sea battle not happen tomorrow. Therefore, it is
necessarily true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. Augustine says, in Free Choice of the Will,
that divine foreknowledge creates a necessity that is problematic for free will:
God has divine foreknowledge of everything in the future; and we sin by the will, not by
necessity? For, you say, if God foreknows that someone is going to sin, then it is necessary that he
sin. But if it is necessary, the will has no choice about whether to sin; there is an inescapable and
fixed necessity.
This brings up a significant issue. This argument claims that actions are determined rather than
open to human action. If actions occur by necessity, human beings should not be blamed for their
actions. This suggests that God is responsible for the actions of man. This also requires that God
is responsible for evil. However, he is not the cause of evil. God gives man the ability to will but
does not necessitate what he wills. However, humans are still responsible for what they will
because the thing that is willed is not of necessity. For example, Augustine in his Confessions, tells
the story when he stole

Strawberry And Chocolate Comparative Essay
Both Strawberry and Chocolate and Amores Perros deal with the different roles of men and
masculinity in the Latin American society. They depict men in different roles from the
aggressive role to the hopeless romantic role. They each show different forms of masculinity
and what these different roles signify in Latin American society. There are many narrative
differences in these two films and those differences effect how the point of the films get across.
First, starting with Strawberry and Chocolate or (Fresa y chocolate). This film takes place in
Havana, Cuba in 1979 during the Castro regime. It was released in 1994 post soviet union and
critiques the bureaucracy of Castro regime. The movie is about a character named David who is

The doctor was persuaded by giving some acres of land in Bangalore by Bharati s MLA
father. This conspiracy needs to be commented upon in the light of what happens to the girl child
in Indian society. Mr. Patel is also not devoid of fault. He continuously and doggedly favours
Chandan when it comes to giving him higher education abroad, and a career. He appears to be
more concerned about the future of Chandan than Tara. Bharati s excessive love for Tara results
from her past guilt. She feels the pangs of her past guilt. She, allied with her father, did great
injustice to Tara. Now she wants to give more and more love and comforts to Tara. It is because
of this that she wants to give her own kidney to Tara when there is another donator available. She
wants to give part of herself and craves satisfaction out of this. The play also can be deemed as
the tragedy of human self. Dan realizes wretchedness and misery of his existence which is the
outcome of the crime done to Tara. There is an unprecedented development in the field of

Comparing Cortez And Columbus
Cortez was born on 1485, Medellin in western Spain. He originally studied in law, but decided to
find fame and wealth in exploring. He travelled to Cuba, and then became the leader of an
expedition to explore Mexico. He was to convert the natives of Mexico to God, he was also to
bring back gold to Europe from Mexico. Cortez and Columbus were very much alike; they both
wanted fame and wealth and looked for it in exploration. These men did succeed in their quest,
but they did not do it the way they had planned it out. They both have very controversial pasts;
looking back people even wonder if they were good, Or evil? Cortez started his voyage to Mexico,
by persuading Velazquez to allow him to lead his own expedition to find wealth in Mexico.

Chick Fil A Swot Analysis
My company of choice is Chick fil A, and I believe an appropriate mission statement would be, to

influence on the families who enjoy it. Some objectives that the company could strive for to
achieve this goal could be to:
Retain a commitment to using fresh chicken and ingredients
Provide a family friendly atmosphere
Hire employees that respect customers and value the mission statement
Give back to the community
Treat employees with respect

be too difficult to find employees outside of the US who support and adhere to their mission

expanding outside the United States. They also have a fraction of the locations that their
competitors possess. McDonald s currently has 36,900 stores, Burger King has 15,000, and Chick

the other companies do, which could account for a large portion of the difference. Opening more

changing this weakness to a strength. An opportunity for Chick fil A is the young people and

The Main Characters Of The Pianist s The Pianist
The Pianist is based on the true story of a renowned Polish Jewish musician who lived through
World War 2 in Warsaw, Poland. At the start of the war, Jewish families had to wear white arm
bands with a blue Star of David and were only allowed a small amount of money. Families were
sent off to concentration camps in packed railroad cars and the families who remained in Warsaw
starved to death. The only reason why the main character, Wladyslaw Szpilman, was able to
survive was through the people who helped give him food, shelter and basic necessities. The
kindness of others helped Wladyslaw survive through the wartimes. Kindness is defined as, an
individual that possesses a sympathetic or helpful nature. One of the main themes within The
Pianist is that kindness can be found in the most unexpected places, even in Nazi Germany.
Wladyslaw Szpilman found help from countless people, even from Germans who were not
Jewish. Irena Sendler was a social worker who lived in Warsaw. She was a part of the Polish
Underground and a Holocaust resistance. It is estimated that she saved more than 2,000 Jewish
children from the Ghetto. She was awarded the Righteous among the Nations in 1965. Irena
Sendler said,
To save one Jewish child, ten Poles and two Jews had to risk death. To betray that same child and
the family that hid him required only one informer or, worse still, one blackmailer. The risk of
being caught by the SS was not prison, but death death for the entire family. (Sendler)

Compare And Contrast Grant And Lee
The two generals in the Civil War were Ulysses S. Grant, who commanded the Union Army, and
Robert E. Lee, who commanded the Confederate Army. The two commanding generals were
similar in many ways, but were also very different. For example, General Ulysses S. Grant and
General Robert E. Lee both graduated from West Point Military Academy, but Grant graduated
twenty first in a class of thirty four in 1843, while Lee graduated second in his class of 1829.
Another example would be that Grant had a reputation for being a tough fighter in battle who
would never give up; while Lee was known for his knowledge in being able to know how to move
an army quickly over many miles and had a great sense of when to attack and when to withdraw.

Johnston would then attack the patrol, by driving the surprised bluecoats back near Shiloh
Church. Throughout the day, the Confederates battered the Union army, driving it back towards
Pittsburg Landing and threatening to trap it against the Tennessee River. many troops on both
sides had no experience in battle. The chances for a complete Confederate victory diminished as
troops from Buell s army began arriving and Grant s command on the battlefield shored up the
sagging Union line. Later in the middle of the afternoon, Johnston rode forward to direct the
Confederate attack and was struck in the leg by a bullet, severing an artery and causing him to
quickly bleed to death. General Pierre G. T. Beauregard assumed control, and halted the advance
at nightfall. The Union army was driven back, but it did not back. Later that day, Grant was joined
by the vanguard of the Buell s army. With an advantage in terms of troop numbers, Grant
counterattacked on April 7. The tired Confederates slowly retreated, but they inflicted heavy
casualties on the Yankees. By nightfall, the Union was able to drive the Confederates back to
Shiloh Church, recapturing grisly reminders of the previous day s battle such as the Hornet s Nest,
the Peach Orchard and Bloody Pond. The Confederates finally limped back to Corinth, thus giving

Frederick Engels Impact on the Conditions of Laborers...
Life can at times seem bad, even in the lives of some of the most prestigious, rich, popular people
in the world. Bad hair, lack of sleep, abundance of homework, and an absence of money have the
tendency to put a damper on some people s days, among other things. Too many times, though, in
today s society things are taken for granted. Imagine not having a place to sleep, having no means
of education, or having all hard earned funds taken by the government, not even leaving enough to
feed the family. This is how it was for Englanders in the 1800s. The condition of the working class

to achieve positive emotions, engagement in activities, good relationships with others, a sense of
meaning, and identifiable accomplishments in their lives. For starters, the Kalahari people
demonstrate positive emotions by being able to obtain food and water each day. Positive emotions

If there weren t any good relationships with others, then the family would have no need to work
together or talk to each other. While the fourth letter of the acronym stands for a sense of
meaning. This is demonstrated through them completing tasks that help feed their family
group. One example of this is shown when the hunters in the group apologize to the deer for
having to kill it and telling it that they must feed their family. They also demonstrate a sense of
meaning by showing younger members of their family group how to get water through means
such as squeezing the shavings of a tuba. This is trying to ensure the survival of their family
group not only in the present but in the future as well. The final letter of the acronym stands for
accomplishments in their lives. This is done through setting up a goal to find water and laying
out leaves the day beforehand to collect dew drops the following day. By planning this out it
allows for the people of the Kalahari to accomplish their goal of finding water in their
environment that has a scarce supply of it. Another goal of theirs that is set each day is finding
food. This Is accomplished by hunting and gathering. By being able to kill an animal, collect
berries, find tree roots, or catch bugs it will give these people a sense of accomplishment in their
lives. The biggest goal I believe they are accomplishing is being able to survive. We can see that
they are being able to accomplish this goal because

Carrie s baby was only eight month old when they claimed that she was not a normal baby due to
the fact that Carrie and her mother were feebleminded. Dr. Priddy believed that if they were to let

decrease her chance of having a feebleminded baby (Buck v. Bell, 2006).
Carrie s lawyer Irving Whitehead did not make any justification for Carrie knowing that she was

Later the Circuit Court had supported the law and filed for the sterilization of Carrie. In 1925
Carrie s lawyer Irving Whitehead supported the decision of the Circuit Court at the Supreme Court

It is a well known fact that sometimes teachers are not able to respond to challenging questions

I made the decision to learn such topics from internet sources to compliment what we have

I could pass my exams successfully. So, I came to the conclusion that online education may easily

otherwise you have nothing to do in online university . One more benefit of online universities.
Online universities have to make their schedule on their own, hence they are able to focus on
concerning study topics more than others. According to a study by the U.S. Department of
Education : on average, students in online learning conditions performed modestly better than those
receiving face to face instruction. Using over 1,000 empirical studies, the DOE found that time
was the additive that helped students study better. The report noted benefits in studies in which
online learners spent more time on task than students in the face to face condition. This survey
conducted by U.S. department of education used standard deviation methods which known by
statisticians as a best way to make a survey. Hence, I suppose it is a good quality report. Chat
rooms and forums in online universities enable students to communicate neglecting their modesty

How Did Julius Caesar Change
Augustus became Rome s first emperor after Rome changed from republic to empire after Julius
Caesar assassination. Julius Caesar is Augustus great uncle and adopted father. He shrewdly
combined military might, institution building and lawmaking to become Rome s sole ruler, laying
the foundations of the 200 year Pax Romana (Roman Peace) and an empire that lasted, in various

He was born in 63 B.C. and even his adoption he was known as Octavian. At the age of 16
Octavius donned the toga because it was the Roman sign of manhood and was taking on

Metaphors In Poetry
M S Essay
Hope is the thing with Feather пјЊ by Emily DickinsonпјЊ and The Path not taken пјЊ by Robert
FrostпјЊare poems that skillfully use metaphors and symbolisms to emphasize the theme of how
hope and decisions have a considerable impact on our lives. While hope allows us to conquer
difficult moments that life throws at us, decision also plays an important role in our lives, for it
determines what path we will go and determines our future.
Robert Frost created a poem about the journey of life. The diverging road in the yellow wood is
used to symbolize a person s life. It symbolizes the different paths that people will encounter in
their lives and suggest the different life people are going to have when choosing different paths. In
the poem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the use of metaphor and symbolism, the theme is easily developed. Hope is a word that
delivers an abstract meaning of what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the
best . The image of a bird perches in the soul and sings the sweetest gale both suggests how hope
is the necessary inspiration human s need in life to motivate them. Hope stays alive in human s
mind, with inspiration and motivation never stop[ping] . Although the song it sings is without
the word , the message it delivers can always be felt. Hope is also strong and undefeatable; it
sings its songs in the chilliest land and strangest sea and can only be destroyed by the sorest
storm . It experiences all circumstances and is always there to overcome problems. Aside from all
the help hope provided, its help is also unrequited, for it has never asked a crumb of me (15).
While hope helps human to overcome suffering in their lives, The Road not taken implies the theme
of the importance of making choices since the choice one makes will change one s whole life. It is
true that many regret not taking the other choice, which is the road not taken in the poem, but
humans will realize that the choice they choose determines their identity. The narrator knows
that his choice will make all the difference since the destination each road leads to will be totally
different. When facing two equally attractive choices, it is even harder to make a decision. The
narrator struggles with letting go and he even thinks about saving the road not taken for another
day. However, once a choice is made, there is no turning back. Ages and ages hence , the narrator
looks back and tells his decision with a sign and regrets his decision of taking the road less traveled
by , it is the road he took that has

The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Literature has been the gateway to imagination and curiosity of the human mind. It enables
people to see the world through the perspective of another. As one dives deeper into a novel, they
begin a journey through each page of an experience like no other. While literature is ultimately
just written words on a page, one can visualize themselves in a totally different world, yet still be
in the comfort of their own home just by the power of imagination that is presented with a novel.
Most specifically with classic literature, it portrays life from the period in which it was written in
but still stands the test in time and has that timeless feel to it. A prime example of this category of
literature is the mystery novel, The Hound of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is without a doubt that these individual characters will permanently remain close to the hearts of
each reader in some way. For instance, the narrator in the story Dr. Watson has a true desire to
impress his superior partner Sherlock Holmes. However, on several occasions Watson is simply
hidden in the shadows of Holmes and is almost just left out of the detection despite his constant
drive to prove he can keep up with Holmes s intelligence. Though he is the detective s partner,
Watson is often excluded in Holmes s problem solving. In the quote I wanted to give up
searching, but then I would have been recognized as Holmes only weakness (Ch 4, Pg 37). Dr.
Watson is struggling to solve the case but he realizes if he does give up, he will be thought as
the weak link between the pair and does not want to let his partner down as well. Many readers
can relate to this feeling of neglect or just not being good enough at one point in their life. It is a
very negative feeling and the reader can feel that sense of sympathy and understanding for Watson s
situation. In addition, the main protagonist Sherlock Holmes is a very respected person in the
novel and other characters do not even have the ability to maintain simple conversation with him
because of his intellectual dominance. However, in the quote, He burst into one of his rare fits of
laughter...I have not heard him

Social Injustice for African Americans in Toni Morrison s...
Social Injustice for African Americans in Toni Morrison s Novel, Jazz
Jazz, a novel by Toni Morrison, explores many different aspects of African American life in the
early part of the twentieth century. This novel tells a story of the difficulties faced by black
families living in the United States. Toni Morrison describes in detail a few of the upsetting
situations they had to face. She also subtly throughout the book places one or two lines that tell a
tale of injustice. Jazz is a novel filled with many stories of inequality affecting the black community.
One significant theme that is present throughout the story is the one of unequal rights for African
Americans. One instance of social injustice is described in the very ... Show more content on

Dorcas mother was killed in a fire because the firengine did not bother to go to that part of the
town. That part of town obviously being the black part of town. Another consequence of social
injustice was within the medical field resulting in Dorcas death. Had the ambulance gone to help
Dorcas when they were called maybe Dorcas could have survived. These cases show the extreme
prejudice that blacks had to face at the time.
Toni Morrison shows social injustice within a one or two line sentence many times in the book.
One example of these inconspicuous lines tells about the discrimination towards blacks: And
although the hair of the first class of colored nurses was declared unseemly for the official
Bellevue nurse s cap... (p.7 and 8) Another line that shows a social injustice is : ...it was the tissue
required if the management was generous enough to let you try on a blouse (but no hat) in a store.
(p.54) Toni Morrison tells the reader in these simple few lines the hardships of black people living
in the 1920 s.
As I read Jazz for the second time, I began noticing other cases of social injustice that I passed
over the first time. Toni Morrison has a writing style which deserves special attention. She brings to
light a lot of imperative social issues that are worth looking at twice in order to understand them
better. Towards the very beginningof the novel a few

Text Messages and Physical Activity It is common knowledge that being physical inactive is one
of the biggest reason why there is an increase in obesity and diabetes worldwide. It is also clear
that with the invention of electronic devices, such as video game consoles and cell phones, there
has been a decrease in exercise and an increase in obesity. Researchers are now trying to use
technology, such as text messaging, in order to promote and increase physical activity and exercise
to combat this growing problem worldwide. In this research paper titled Physical Activity Text

Within Justice J. Harlan s dissenting argument in Katz v. United States (1967), Justice Harlan re

Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil mystery plays a huge role when it comes to
plot, and character development. At the end of this story the minister who is wearing the veil
rhetorically asks, What but the mystery which it obscurely typifies has made this piece of crape
so awful? (Hawthorne 1044). Hawthorne has built up this character so carefully and intensely to
this point, to quite directly state that this veil on his face represents mystery. The minister also
begs the question of, what else does it represent? Asking his congregation, who also persecuted
him, to look deep in themselves and figure out the real reason for his apparel. The minister
blatantly reveals that his veil typifies mystery in a sense where his congregation cannot keep
themselves together, unless they know the absolute truth. Hawthorne uses this veil as a direct
representation of mystery and self control, but he also uses it as a symbol of a divine controller,
tying in spirituality and religion. Towards the beginning of the story the minister reveals himself
looking different, as he wore an obvious black veil over his face. His audience hated the idea of
his new look as they muttered amongst themselves, I don t like it, and Our parson has gone mad!
(Hawthorne 1038). These two particular quotes obviously reveal the initial distaste for the veil, but
it also shows that the congregation could not even control themselves, as they wondered why he
wore this disgusting cover. The

What Is Isabella A Heroine
My position on Isabella is that I am against the commentators opinion. The reason being is
because Isabella has the courage to follow her code even when the situation proved difficult. I
also disagree with the commentators because Isabella confronted Angelo and she does not yield
to Angelo s relentless demands when trying to save her brother s life. Including this, she is a
warrior in which she does not give up in saving her brother, even when the situation is grim.
Moreover, Isabella is a heroine because she is a suburb and audacious person. The commentators
are also wrong about Isabella because she is a heroine. Isabella is a heroine in many ways
however, the most notable heroisms are listed below. Part Two The heroine(Isabella) is not

Should Fighting Be Allowed In Hockey

it s from 2 experienced heavy weights duking it out to try and change the momentum of a game,
or it s a pair of young guns trying to prove a point. There are many reasons for fighting in the
NHL but what most people don t know is the injuries caused from fighting. Fighting has been in
the NHL since 1922, the NHL started 1917 so basically fighting has been in the NHL since the
beginning. Fighting in the NHL use to be a lot more popular then it is today. Back in the late 80

Background Facts About We Are Acting For Robert Joyce Essay
BACKGROUND FACTS: We are acting for Robert Joyce, who has two problems regarding
different issues. The first problem is in relation to his company, Joyce Holdings Ltd. His company
was granted a commercial lease, whereby Mr Joyce acted as a guarantor and guaranteed to take on
a new lease of the premises if the company became insolvent. The company went into
administration early this year. The administrators have vacated the property and ceased to take
responsibility or pay rent to the landlord. They have returned the keys and surrendered the leasefor
no payment. The landlord has secured the premises and marketed it receiving no interest. The
landlord is now requiring Mr Joyce to take a new lease of the premises under his guarantee. The
second problem concerns his freehold house in Peterborough. He wishes to let this out to foreign
workers (principally but not exclusively) from Poland. He is not using a letting agent as he has
his own source in Poland. He is aware of the legislative requirements up until the end of 2015 and
is unaware of any changes in 2016.

  • 2. Rubbermaid Acquisition Summary Newell The Newell Company was looking for a new corporate strategy that would allow them to have the opportunity to grow through an expansion of their markets. CEO at the time was John McDonough at Newell and there were a few acquisitions that contributed to strategic steps in expanding the company also known as their The Newellization Process . Newell s focus was to acquire more than thirty major businesses within the next twenty years. A merger with Rubbermaid, would allow Newell to gain market share value to surpass $10 billion and that would be critical for Newell s reach of capitalization in the market. Rubbermaid at the time was known for their success in product innovation, their brand equity and significant amount of shelf space in retailers. Newell believed that the Rubbermaid acquisition would help them achieve their goal. But was this the right decision for Newell? Some problems with the acquisition is that Rubbermaid is one of the larger companies that Newell has associated with, meaning that the Newellization process would take time and focus away from other areas of the business. Many customers and retailers have complained about their service they ve provided. According to a major retailer, They ve been such lousy shippers. Not on time, terrible fill rates, and their product costs too much. They show you a new product line and then tell you they can ship only a third of what you want (Montgomery). With Rubbermaid s reputation plummeting, this could also have a negative effect on Newell s reputation as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plantinga s argument against naturalism is very engaging. He begins to state that a lot of people believing Darwin s theory of evolution have misguided beliefs about naturalism. Comprehensively, he argues that the contingency of humans having stable cognitive faculties is extremely inferior. Plantinga cites C.S. Lewis in recognizing that evolutionary naturalism leads us to distrust. He brought up that even Darwin had doubts along those lines. The essence of reasoning in Plantinga s argument is that the reliability of evolutionary naturalism is very low. He says the people who believe the two, evolution and naturalism, go hand in hand should reevaluate its soundness; and hence, withhold approval from all other beliefs including evolutionary naturalism, said to be self defeating (316). ... • 5. How NAFTA has affected the financial service industries... The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was enacted in November of 1993 with aims to facilitate the free flow of goods, services and labor between the United States, Canada and Mexico. The ratification of NAFTA created the world s largest free market with roughly 390 million consumers and an estimated total output of $8.6 trillion. Clearly, this trade alliance has had a major influence on the financialservice industries of the participating nations and will continue to do so in the future. However, the financial service provisions of NAFTA will have sufficiently greater implications for Mexico than either the United States or Canada. This is in part because Mexico is embarking upon a greater shift towards openness in its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These had left U.S. banks relatively less competitive in the world market. Since the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (1999) amended the Glass Steagall Act, many financial institutions have made steps towards offering a full range of financial services and greatly increased their market share. Overall, the U.S. advantage from NAFTA is its virtually unlimited access to the Mexican market, which has been an incentive for the United States to restructure its domestic banking system. In the long run, NAFTA will help develop U.S. banking to compete not only in the NAFTA area but in other world markets as well. Another benefit of NAFTA will be increased opportunities for U.S. and Canadian financial service companies (via the joint venture route), which will necessitate foreign companies to overcome cultural and language barriers. A wide variety of U.S. firms with existing investments in Mexico will be able to acquire previously prohibited majority ownership, including 100 percent ownership, in their investments. New U.S. entrants in many Mexican markets may start their own wholly owned firms in Mexico The greatest effect that the NAFTA financial service agreement has had on Canada is the liberalization of their financial sector. Many banks and financial institutions have been increasing in size through mergers and acquisitions. In 2001, the Royal Bank of Canada acquired Centura Banks and its 240 ... • 7. The Legalization Of All Drugs The legalization of all drugs considered illegal in the United States today would do more than any other act to eradicate current social and political problems. Though many would naturally think otherwise, legalizing drugs like marijuana, ecstasy, meth, cocaine, heroin, mushrooms, LSD, and DMT would cripple organized crime, majorly reduce death and injury from druguse, unclog the court system, and make these drugsmuch safer to use. Contrary to popular belief, the legalization of all drugs would make the streets a much safer place. Addicts must pay hundreds of times the actual cost of production because of the risk dealers and manufacturers have in production and distribution, so they often need to resort to crime to pay for their addiction. If drugs were legalized, the price would greatly reduce and addicts won t have to commit crime to support their habit. Some addicts don t make enough money to purchase their expensive fix, and feel they have no other choice but to break the law. If dugs were legalized and regulated, the price would go down drastically because there would be no more risk involved. A few grams of cocaine could be as easy to obtain and as affordable as a pack of cigarettes. Addicts would no longer need to commit crime to obtain their drugs. Some would say though, that drug related offences would still exist. For example, if drugs were legal for anyone over 21, there would be a demand for those younger, and drug related crime would still exist. Is this not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some events may be considered harder to survive, but for every situation that person will have to figure out their own way to survive. All of my dives ended up being pretty consistent, and for the dives that weren t great I was able to move on even though it may have been difficult. Moving on from bad dives I had done was probably one of the hardest parts of the meet. I also didn t let all the other girls who may have had better dives get in my head and impact my diving. I didn t compare what place I was in to what my teammates or other divers were placed. I was happy for how I was doing, and I was actually feeling very confident. I was thrilled when my coach told me that I had made the second cut. Sadly, the afternoon session of the meet did not go quite as well. For my second to last dive I over rotated. The result of this is a failed dive or a very low scored dive. It was very difficult for me to not start crying. That one dive had destroyed my chances of getting the personal best I d been so close to achieving. I am proud to say that I was able to keep it together and finish the meet with a good dive. • 9. Restorative Justice Model And Domestic Violence Introduction Beginning in the late 1960 s there began a shift in societal values from punishment of criminal behavior towards addressing the needs of the victims of crime. The questions being asked shifted from what law was broken to who was hurt. (Calhoun, 2013) It can be said that even today there still appears some controversy over the effectiveness and place of restorative justice however it has begun to infiltrate legislation. In Kansas K.S.A. 21 5414 (Domestic Battery) recently passed the requirement that all domestic violenceoffenders are required to undergo assessment and treatment from a certified batterers intervention program; a form of restorative justice. With this in mind the focus of subsequent discussion will be around defining terminology in restorative justice and domestic violence, effectiveness and implications, use in social work case management, and potential improvements to be made. Description of Restorative Justice Model and Domestic Violence Offenders One of the major roots founded in the core of restorative justice is the connection, no matter how damaging, that links a victim to their offender. There is forever a connection developed between the victim and offender despite the lack of a previous knowledge of each other. • 14. The Attitude Of The Poem My Last Duchess By Robert Browning 9th Grade English Essay: Discuss the attitude of the poet towards the duchess in My Last Duchess by Robert Browning In the middle ages , the main topic used in poems was a nobleman, usually a knight in love with a married woman and had to prove his devotion by heroic deeds and amorous writings . They used blazon to emphasis the beautiful bodies of the women in those days. However, there was a radical change in the Victorian times where prostitution became such a big issue. The poems became darker and less courtly. In the poem, My last duchess by Robert Browning there was no traditional blazon such as complementing the duchess body. Yet, the speaker who is also the Duke talks about the women s body as the main justification for her assassination. The duke talks about her smile as the reason for his jealousy and possessive obecession. Robert Browning uses various literary devices to provoke a feeling to the reader. By his choice of devices, we are able to understand the feelings of the Duke towards the Duchess. The rhyme scheme of this poem is organized in rhyming couplets (AABBCC) this is used to show the relationship between him and the duchess (couplets) it may also be used to show is obecession with controlling everything and having everything organized and planned. • 15. Homosexuality in Eighteenth Century England Though same sex relationships have been a prominent aspect of many cultures almost since the beginning of time, there has historically been a significant taboo surrounding the phenomenon in the Western world. From the Fourteenth Century on, Western Europe was gripped by a rabid and obsessive negative preoccupation with homosexuality as the most horrible of sins (Boswell 262). The majority of people did not understand or accept the idea, and consequentially did not have an appropriate way of talking about it. Over the years, as various cultures identified and even implemented practices currently associated with homosexuality, there arose a need for common terminology. This recognition of sodomy as the characterizing practice of homosexuals indicates society s general disregard of women as homosexuals. It was apparently beyond the capability of most people during the eighteenth century even to consider that women could engage in any practice so unnatural and strange. Women, themselves, used this disbelief to their advantage, as in the case of a woman suspected of homosexual involvement, a suspected Mistress Clap, who was asked by a judge whether she had anything to say for herself. I hope it will be considered that I am a woman, she replied briefly, and therefore it cannot be thought that I would ever be concerned with such practices (Hyde 64). Besides denying any involvement by women in such practices, one of the other beliefs commonly held in England during the eighteenth century was that young boys learned, or were inadvertently taught to be homosexual. One widely accepted belief blamed the teaching of such deviance on their schooling. Male bonding in schools was crucial. Its result was radical female isolation and a complex pattern of male friendship codes instilled by years of male bonding (Rousseau 144). In another argument against schools in the charge of encouraging homosexual tendencies, An early eighteenth century work called Plain Reasons for the Growth of Sodomy in England blames the custom of sending young boys to kindergartens run by women for ... It involves a person or a group of persons acting against another person or groups of persons with the purpose to achieve one or several diverse goals. In many cases violence results from individuals perceiving the acts of other people as hostile and thus wanting to act against these people before it is too late. Depending on the situation, more or less individuals might get involved in an act of violence, especially when they consider that it would be essential for them to do so. William Shakespeare s tragedy Julius Caesar provides audiences with an account involving the Roman dictator Julius Caesar, the 44 B.C. conspiracy that resulted in his violent assassination, and the continued violence that dominated Rome consequent to his death. In spite of the fact that the play s title is Julius Caesar, Caesar s character only appears in three scenes. The tragedy s central character is Marcus Brutus and most of the storyline relates to him and to his failure to understand matters from a general perspective when he has the chance to do so. The play actually demonstrates how violence can emerge from individuals misinterpreting behavior seen in others and the idea of violence dominates most of the play, shaping the way that characters interact and think. From the very first lines of the play audiences are presented with the character of Murellus. This character s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Questions The Necessity Of Free Will And Its Compatibility... The fatalism framework assumes that human action is necessitated and therefore, it negates free will. Fatalism questions the necessity of free will and its compatibility with divine foreknowledge. Much of medieval philosophy returns to this question, attempting to reconcile these two seemingly conflicting truths. The Law of Non Contradiction is one of logic s most fundamental ideas. It claims that something can not be both true and not true. Under this law, no affirming statement can negate itself. For example, an object cannot be both square and circular. They cannot exist within the same context and so, a square circle is a contradiction. In Chapter 9 of De Interpretatione, Aristotle discusses the problem of whether a sea battle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whichever is true, is true in the past. So, assuming there will be a sea battle tomorrow, it has always been true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. And because the past in unalterable, it implies that human action has no ability to make a sea battle not happen tomorrow. Therefore, it is necessarily true that there will be a sea battle tomorrow. Augustine says, in Free Choice of the Will, that divine foreknowledge creates a necessity that is problematic for free will: God has divine foreknowledge of everything in the future; and we sin by the will, not by necessity? For, you say, if God foreknows that someone is going to sin, then it is necessary that he sin. But if it is necessary, the will has no choice about whether to sin; there is an inescapable and fixed necessity. This brings up a significant issue. This argument claims that actions are determined rather than open to human action. If actions occur by necessity, human beings should not be blamed for their actions. This suggests that God is responsible for the actions of man. This also requires that God is responsible for evil. However, he is not the cause of evil. God gives man the ability to will but does not necessitate what he wills. However, humans are still responsible for what they will because the thing that is willed is not of necessity. • 29. The Main Characters Of The Pianist s The Pianist The Pianist is based on the true story of a renowned Polish Jewish musician who lived through World War 2 in Warsaw, Poland. At the start of the war, Jewish families had to wear white arm bands with a blue Star of David and were only allowed a small amount of money. Families were sent off to concentration camps in packed railroad cars and the families who remained in Warsaw starved to death. The only reason why the main character, Wladyslaw Szpilman, was able to survive was through the people who helped give him food, shelter and basic necessities. The kindness of others helped Wladyslaw survive through the wartimes. Kindness is defined as, an individual that possesses a sympathetic or helpful nature. One of the main themes within The Pianist is that kindness can be found in the most unexpected places, even in Nazi Germany. Wladyslaw Szpilman found help from countless people, even from Germans who were not Jewish. Irena Sendler was a social worker who lived in Warsaw. She was a part of the Polish Underground and a Holocaust resistance. It is estimated that she saved more than 2,000 Jewish children from the Ghetto. She was awarded the Righteous among the Nations in 1965. Irena Sendler said, To save one Jewish child, ten Poles and two Jews had to risk death. One more benefit of online universities. Online universities have to make their schedule on their own, hence they are able to focus on concerning study topics more than others. According to a study by the U.S. Department of Education : on average, students in online learning conditions performed modestly better than those receiving face to face instruction. Using over 1,000 empirical studies, the DOE found that time was the additive that helped students study better. The report noted benefits in studies in which online learners spent more time on task than students in the face to face condition. This survey conducted by U.S. department of education used standard deviation methods which known by statisticians as a best way to make a survey. Hence, I suppose it is a good quality report. Chat rooms and forums in online universities enable students to communicate neglecting their modesty or timidity. One may behave too shy, even if he studied a lot, and perish his marks. Online education makes everyone s voice heard, and promote them to easily express themselves. Katie Lepi, the reporter of Edudemic, supports my opinion. She says, I grew up in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the use of metaphor and symbolism, the theme is easily developed. Hope is a word that delivers an abstract meaning of what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best . The image of a bird perches in the soul and sings the sweetest gale both suggests how hope is the necessary inspiration human s need in life to motivate them. Hope stays alive in human s mind, with inspiration and motivation never stop[ping] . Although the song it sings is without the word , the message it delivers can always be felt. Hope is also strong and undefeatable; it sings its songs in the chilliest land and strangest sea and can only be destroyed by the sorest storm . It experiences all circumstances and is always there to overcome problems. Aside from all the help hope provided, its help is also unrequited, for it has never asked a crumb of me (15). While hope helps human to overcome suffering in their lives, The Road not taken implies the theme of the importance of making choices since the choice one makes will change one s whole life. It is true that many regret not taking the other choice, which is the road not taken in the poem, but humans will realize that the choice they choose determines their identity. The narrator knows that his choice will make all the difference since the destination each road leads to will be totally different. When facing two equally attractive choices, it is even harder to make a decision. The narrator struggles with letting go and he even thinks about saving the road not taken for another day. However, once a choice is made, there is no turning back. • 46. Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil mystery plays a huge role when it comes to plot, and character development. At the end of this story the minister who is wearing the veil rhetorically asks, What but the mystery which it obscurely typifies has made this piece of crape so awful? (Hawthorne 1044). Hawthorne has built up this character so carefully and intensely to this point, to quite directly state that this veil on his face represents mystery. The minister also begs the question of, what else does it represent? Asking his congregation, who also persecuted him, to look deep in themselves and figure out the real reason for his apparel. The minister blatantly reveals that his veil typifies mystery in a sense where his congregation cannot keep themselves together, unless they know the absolute truth. Hawthorne uses this veil as a direct representation of mystery and self control, but he also uses it as a symbol of a divine controller, tying in spirituality and religion. Towards the beginning of the story the minister reveals himself looking different, as he wore an obvious black veil over his face. His audience hated the idea of his new look as they muttered amongst themselves, I don t like it, and Our parson has gone mad! (Hawthorne 1038). These two particular quotes obviously reveal the initial distaste for the veil, but it also shows that the congregation could not even control themselves, as they wondered why he wore this disgusting cover.
