It could be argued that there is nothing that does not fall outside the laws of nature. But this is not
the perspective that Tolkien expresses. To him, living in England during the first and second World
Wars, the use of technology as a tool of destruction and conquest was unnaturaland evil. In his
books, he embodies the idea of technology as magic. This magic or technology is ultimately evil,
since its use, for good or malicious intent, always results in the disruption of the cycles of nature.
For example, in Middle Earth (Tolkien s fictional world), the pinnacle of technology is reached in
the creation of magic rings. These rings are designed to further the processes of nature, to bring
great abundance and prosperity to the land. But nature must return to normal, and before the story
ends, the power of these good rings is destroyed along with that of the evil One Ring.
This brings up another important aspect of Tolkien s good and evil: once technology (or magic) is
used to disrupt nature, only similar technology can be used to combat it. This creates an
unfortunate cycle. Those whose have no technology must develop it in order to fight those who
threaten them with it. Once a people have defeated their enemy by means of this technology, they
have already disrupted the cycles of nature in doing so. Tolkien sees this as the reason behind the
persistence of evil.

Abstract: In this paper we present a load measurement scheme for home energy management system
with energy demand management. The proposed system will have control of various appliances that
are available in the home. It manages household loads according to their predefined priority and
guarantees the total household power consumption below certain levels. The home energy
management system will receive the demand response from the utility side. The goal of the
system is to encourage the consumer to use less energy during peak hours or to move the time
of energy use to off peak times such as nighttime and weekends. Thus the high peak to average
ratio (PAR) of power will be avoided and also we adopt real time pricing. The utility company use
real time dynamic pricing to coordinate demand responses to the benefit of the overall system.
Hence for this purpose we need to measure the power consumed by the various appliances that are
available in the home.

the symbolism more understand and attention grabbing towards the reader making them not
want to put the book down. When people think crows they think annoying black birds that try to
steal food from gardens, but in Cold Mountain, it is a big part of the story, as well as a
reoccurring symbol within the novel. The reader first reads about the crows right when the book
begins, when Inman was younger and in school. When he was just a little kid in school, he was
being mischievous and decided to throw his hat out the window, but when it landed it took a
shape of something. It landed far out across the playground at the edge of the hayfield and rested

been going on for centuries and was finally band in 1931 (Matera 3). But this didn t stop the
Japanese at all. By researching my topic I found that I did not know a lot about whaling, which

I went to the Scottsdale Community College library website and searched whaling. All the sources
I chosen was through Academic Search Premier. Every thing that I read put me in a new
perspective about my topic. I learned that whaling has been going on since the eleventh century, and

persistence in terms of criminal behavior seems higher for individuals who start early in life (NIJ,
