The Theme Of Companionship In Of Mice And Men
How does the author, John Steinbeck, suggest the death of companionship and inevitability of
loneliness, in the novella Of mice and Men? In the novella Of mice and men there is a consistent
theme of loneliness is shown throughout the novella. In the novella, there is also a strong sense
of the death of companionship within it, Candy and his dog and George both experience the
death of their companionship within the story. While Curley s Wife and Crooks experience
loneliness. All of the characters experience this theme of loneliness throughout the story whether
through the death of one s companionship or never having a companionship in the first place. In
the novella Of mice and Men the character Candy gives us a good representation of the meaning
of the death of companionship within and throughout the book. There are multiple examples of
this but one in particular comes to mind; he rolled slowly over and faced the wall and lay
silently Indicates to us the sorrow and the pain he feels, and grieves in misery over the death of his
companionship. This conveys an image of loss and embarrassment, this is shown by him facing the
wall and laying silently as he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Crooks it was due to him being black, but with Curley s wife, it s because she is a women,
and due to that she experiences a strong sense of loneliness. Curleys wife in the novella wants to
gain attention from other characters, in the hopes of her getting companion that she truly desires,
something similar to Crooks. This is clearly indicated to us by Curley s wife responding; Why
can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely. and her words tumbled out in a
passion of communication Like stated before, she s trying to use her language to gain the attention
of other characters and for them to sympathise her, this again is very similar to

Birds Are Very Successful Essay
Birds are a group of animal which consist of many species, all of which play various roles in
several ecological niches. Birds are considered biologically successful due in fact to the number
of species present. Currently, there are approximately 10,000 species of birds, which is almost
double the amount of species of mammals or amphibians. The differences which separate birds
from mammals and make them more successful are the presence of large yolked eggs, which
support the offspring until birth, and the absence of lactation which allows for greater energy
usage and efficiency. Birds have developed these adaptations over the course of thousands of
years. Additionally, birds are considered biologically successful due to the fact that they are
found on almost every continent on Earth. Examples include several species of birds in the
forests of North and South America and Asia, several species of birds in the cities of Europe, and
the flocks of the presence of ostriches and various other birds in the planes of Africa and Australia,
and very notably, the existence of penguins in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These include body shape, presence of feathers, structure of the skeleton, structure of the limbs,
make up of the respiratory system, and high metabolism. Birds have small, light, and condensed
body forms when compared to other animals. Their anatomical mapping of their organs and
muscles, show that these are located nearest to the center of gravity, which provides better balance
during flight. Also, the presence and scheme of their feathers, which are contour, allow for the
body to be covered tightly. This makes it streamline and somewhat reduces the effect experienced
by drag. Primary feathers are on the wings help in flight and also provide wing shape, while Down
feathers are soft and act as insulation. Tail feathers stretch sideways so that tail can be used by the
bird to turn and

Where We All Began
Humans: Where We All Began Humans have roamed this earth for thousands of years.
Considering that, we can t help but raise the question of where we all came from. Around the
1950s, it was widely believed among European scientists that Homo sapiens originated in Europe
or Asia around 60,000 years ago. Based on more recent discoveries by Mary Leakey and her
husband Louis while excavating in East Africa, we now believe that Homo sapiens may have first
emerged in Africa many years earlier. Of course it is impossible to know exactly when the human
species first emerged, but based on fossil evidence, most paleoarchaeologists believe that around 6
million years ago, the human ancestral line split from that of the chimpanzeeand evolved into a new
group. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was only around 3ВЅ feet tall and had very long arms. Based on her body s shape, she was
believed to be able to walk upright on two legs and also climb trees with great ease, scientists
believe that her species used resources from various environments, such as woodlands and
grasslands. Judging from the evidence of large muscles on her arms and upper torso, she must
have had very powerful upper arms and a strong chest. She had feet that were capable of
supporting her entire weight, but her toes resembled that of a tree climbing ape, being long and
curved. Despite her physical resemblance to ape species, her body was very capable of
supporting her weight while walking upright. She had thigh bones that were angled inwards and
a short, broad pelvis that helped keep her body upright. These are both required in order to walk
efficiently on two legs. Lucy was a very early stage of hominid species that have since taken on
different shapes and become more and more capable of thriving on this planet. From studying
fossilized bones such as that of Lucy s, we can pursue further studies on how greatly humans have
evolved over the years. (Human

The Potential for Future Crop Loss Essay
The Potential for Future Crop Loss
On the subject of potential crop loss there are several variables, which influence drought and plant
disease resulting in a loss of crops.
The first variable is that of drought. Drought is a result of shifting weather patterns, which changes
the amount of precipitation an area receives. There are three major causes of drought, deficient and
unfavorably distributed precipitation, excess heat and warm winds (Nemanishen, 1998, p.35).
Historically the grasslands of North America have had a highly varied climate with years of
drought immediately followed by years of sufficient precipitation. For example, in the area of the
Palliser Triangle in the grasslands of Canada, wheat crop loss has been seen ... Show more content

Krick identified twelve major North American weather patters which paved the way for long term
weather forecasts that are now used universally in farming and crop production (Nemanishen, 1998,
p.27). It is understood that migratory cold blows bring moisture to the Great Plains and grasslands
it is important to track these cold blows in order to identify wet and drought seasons. Also
understood is the effect humans have on the weather patterns. At least two of the past three major
droughts have coincided with changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere over the
northern hemisphere (Borchert, 1971, p.7). It is undeniable that human use of land has modified
atmospheric moisture patterns. Also effecting moisture patterns is solar radiation. For example, in
years with high volcanic activity solar radiation was lower because the atmosphere was not as
transparent. Higher solar radiation results in less precipitation due to excess heat resulting in
drought (Nemanishen, 1998, p.36). It is difficult to deny that drought occurs rhythmically, however,
on account of the great randomness of weather we are only able to forecast when the next drought
may be and gauge its severity depending on what is known about the previous years.
Another variable resulting in crop loss is that of plant disease, and more specifically late blight.
Late blight is caused by the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans

Mindfulness Reflection Paper
I have a somewhat regular, yet sincere contemplative mindfulness practice that helps me understand
why I experience life the way I do both internally and externally. I get to see my own urges, those I
m not really aware of such as the urge to multi task. Practicing mindfulness meditation and other
mindfulness practices I learned to become in touch with my own urges and to control them through
awareness and self discipline. So, here are a few reflections for your coffee time. As you sip on
your deliciously made aromatic coffee, tea or hot cocoa accept these thoughts for your reflection.
Finally, at the 3rd mindfulness class I took with Daniel, I decided to do the homework he had
suggested to everyone, which was to do one thing we do routinely during the day, mindfully. That
is to be with the experience of it and fully giving it our undivided attention. For example, if we
chose brushing our teeth, he said, to brush slowly, feel every stroke as the brush moved around the
mouth, what it felt like, the taste of the tooth paste, what the mind was doing; observe everything
about that experience, while also focusing on our breath. This was our mindfulness exercise,
which to me didn t sound too exciting. It took a lot of self discipline to be able to stay with an
activity and not wonder off in the mind. So,I never did the tooth brush exercise.
Until that final day of having burnt my 967th pita bread and screamed to myself, this is so
annoying. It s not acceptable anymore!

Critical Analysis Of Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely As A...
Critical theory , in terms of literature, can be defined as a form of criticism through the close
reading of a text and the application of knowledge acquired from the study of the humanities. The
multiple readings mentioned in the question refers to the different schools of literary criticism for
example, structuralism, feminist theory, new historicism/cultural materialism, ecocriticism and
postcolonial criticism. It is true to say that Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud can be
read and interpreted in many different ways, especially when both the original and revised versions
of the poem are taken into account. In my opinion, the most interesting criticism that can be applied
to this poem is structuralism, which I will be analysing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Theme Of The Starry Night By Vincent Van Gogh
In 1889 Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night from his room in an asylum. Most artists
paintings have something to do with their lives. This painting has a lot of different brush textures
with a lot of little details. It looks like a calm quiet night by the tone of the colors, but somewhere
there is something going on, hence the flames. By just glancing at this it may seem like there is not
much going on but by looking at some parts closely, it is noticeable. In the painting The Starry Night
by Vincent van Goghthere is a bunch of different textures added to the painting with details of a
small town during the night time.
Everyone can agree that the painting appears to be at night due to the color schemes. Choosing
cool tones instead of using vivid colors gives the interpretation on what time of day it is. The
color that is spread all throughout the painting is dark blue with a variety of types of blue fading
off. Someone that just takes a glimpse may think there are just blobs of yellow in the sky,
however if you concentrate you will realize they represent stars. The stars have a center dot in the
middle with yellow and white shades fading off into the sky making them extremely bright. Back
in the day any light that came from the sky was the source of light once the sun went down. In the
top left corner, you can notice the crest of the moon, that is vividly shaded in with a dark yellow.
The painter continues his technique of showing the amount of light both the stars

Marilyn Grief
Attachment, expectedness, and grief accumulation, are important variables that impact the way an
individual experiences grief, further influencing the way they heal (Golden, 2000). Marilyn is
experiencing circumstances that influence how she is grieving. Her son, who was a major part of
her life, died unexpectedly in a car accident. Additionally, she is experiencing accumulated grief
from a lack of closure after her father passed away. Golden (2000) reports that when an
individual loses someone they are very attached to they will experience a greater degree of grief.
Furthermore, if the loss was unexpected, such as a car accident, the grief will be significantly
different than if it was expected. Another important factor in the grieving process focuses on the
presence of accumulated grief. If grief isn t acknowledged and/or dealt with, it can have an impact
on everyday life and can affect the way an individual copes with other grief occurrences (Golden,
2000). Marilyn still has unresolved issues revolving around her parents divorce and subsequent
deathof her father.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The recovery process for Marilyn is complicated due to the unanticipated death of a family
member and the residual grief that exists from her father s death. Counseling should be
implemented to facilitate Marilyn s healing process. Marilyn has lost a son which is very
dramatic for any individual. Feeling responsible for a child s safety and well being is a normal
process. However, feelings of guilt and powerlessness can permeate the healing process and
complicate grief when a child dies (Matzo Sherman, 2015). A therapist who specializes in grief
counseling could address some of Marilyn s unique circumstances surrounding her son s death, thus
allowing her to move from chaos to

Professor Jim Greene
Abstract:
Technology has had and imperative influence in almost every aspect of life. It has also made an
impact on how we learn today. Some question how effective learning could be via the internet,
while most stick with the familiarity of traditional classroom learning. Either option you choose still
substantiates that technology has changed the way we learn and will continue to expand on its
influences with the ways we choose to progress educationally. Each educational platform has it
disadvantages, however the advantages pose alternatives that can suit an individual s educational
needs.
With technology influencing almost every aspect of common activities, it s not unusual for it to
influence the way we learn. The traditional classroom environment is being challenged with the
implementation of online learning. With major technological advances over the last 20 years, many
traditional classroom environments have been replaced with online learning platforms that create
convenient, accelerated, and comprehensive learning opportunities around the world. Although
some would beg the differ that online learning can replace classroom education completely, online
education continues to improve allowing it to become a more trustworthy alternative for learning.
Since the traditional classroom environment pacifies familiarity in education some opt for

Stormbreaker Chapter 7 Analysis
Reading Chapter seven of Stormbreaker caused me to have a lot of mixed emotions. In the
beginning, I didn t see the point of the first paragraph so, of course, I reread it serval times.
Because I read it several times and still didn t understand, I started of reading chapter seven in
confusion. As I got closer towards the middle of the chapter, I wasn t confused at all. In fact, the
less confused I was, the more I liked it! There was only one thing I noticed that made this chapter
stick out from the previous chapters is, Alex s problem. When I first started reading, I was
expecting for Alex to have a physical problem, or at least a problem that can be easily solved.
Instead, Alex had two emotional problems. I don t usually give out compliments to people who I
don t like that much, but I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, I had absolutely no idea the Alex was nervous until I reread and scrutinized the chapter,
I found serval places where he showed signs of nervousness and depression. The first time he
showed nervousness, was when he kept thinking of all the possibilities that could go wrong. Of
all people, I think that I would be the master at knowing nervousness. For example: At the end
year of the 2014 2015 school year, we were assigned workbook pages worth a test grade. For
everybody else this wasn t a huge deal, but it was for me. I had an eighty in the class and my test
average was high. That meant, anything below a ninety five, would cause me to fail. If I failed,
I wouldn t be allowed to come back to Davidson! Since it was assigned, I couldn t do anything
but think of the worst possibilities, just like Alex. Just like Alex screwed up by blowing his
cover, I screwed up by not answering a question, but just like he covered it up, I did too. Except I
got caught and received a ninety nine. Luckily, Alex hasn t gotten caught and I hope he

Founded as Magdalen Hall The Bishop of Winchester, William of Wayflete founded the
forerunner to the college Magdalen Hall in 1448 on the High Street. The good bishop was a
leading educational reformer of the day, with a passion for Renaissance ideas and had, by this
time, already helped to establish schools to promote his new views. He had also been Provost of
Eton: one of England s leading and most influential schools. Wayflete s ambition, wealth and
connections with Henry VI enabled him to acquire the nearby site of an old tumble down
hospital, sitting on vast tracts of land just outside the city walls. It was here, the present site, that
Magdalen became a proper college in 1458. Wayflete made use of some of the existing buildings,
as a temporary arrangement, until his grand, purpose built college was complete. However the
inherited chapel and hospital hall remained in use and traces still survive to this today. May

to this in the original statutes. The name honours Mary Magdalen who is said to have undergone a
spiritual transformation after meeting Christ in Galilee. The statutes also made provision for a
choir to be founded consisting of men from the college and boys drawn from the associated school.
This choral tradition continues to this day and includes the ancient and famous custom of singing

Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad
Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious
amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate,
and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars
going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading
both Aeneasand Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the
role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliadfocuses on the end of
the Trojan Warand the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the
war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the
comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have
influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were
chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they
were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were
also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals.
Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the
gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men
by having a great military and physical prowess.

Same Sex Marriage Has Become Legal And The View On Lgbtq...
In eighteenth and nineteenth century Europe, also known as the Enlightenment Era, same sex
behaviors were typically seen in a negative light. Sometimes even punished due to laws that were in
place at the time, sodomy laws. Somewhere in the 1920s people began to assume that
homosexuality could be changed through psychology. This movement was so popular at the time
that even Freud stated that homosexualitycould sometimes be removed through hypnotic
suggestion. However, this fact was disproven by United States Surgeon General David Satcher in a
report, there is no valid scientific evidence that sexual orientationcan be changed. Since this time
same sex marriage has become legal and the view on LGBTQ seems to have shifted, at least in a
majority. Each culture has its own beliefs and perceptions when it comes to homosexuality. In the
United States, those perceptions differ between lesbian or gay, as parents, across cultures, and in
education.
When those with different perceptions get together, it could be beneficial to see things from the
other s point of view, or it could be detrimental and cause some sort of fight. However, the biggest
detriment could be with the person who is a homosexual, negative effects on health and well being
of this individual. (American Psychological Association, 2008) The biggest concern has more to do
with their significant mental health concerns that come with such a prejudice of the sexual
orientation discrimination. (American Psychological

A young poet who tried to make a living .John Keats lived a roughly life as a child. He was a man
who expressed his life in his poetry. Keats experienced bad life situations, great expectations, and
depression.
On October 31, 1795 an English Romantic lyric was brought forth in this world. He was born in
London, England. Keats was the oldest of four children. His mother was Frances Keats. His
father was Thomas Keats. Keats lost his parents at age eight. Keats father, whom was a stable

and just as quickly lost a good amount of their family s worth. Frances second marriage failed so
she left her family and children behind in the care of her mother. She lately returned to her
children in life but her life was in tatters. In 1810 she died of tuberculosis After his parents death,
Keats found solace and comfort in art and literature . Shortly before his father s death he was

The theme from this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic Fil A. The
majority of the students who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU,
therefore it was not a surprise that they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013).
But there are about 8% more females on campus, but males ordered more than females (College

Chic Fil A. I decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy long line during lunch ever
since they opened the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would be interesting to

Comparing Tangled And The Brothers Grimm
Tangled is a Disney movie created to tell the story of Rapunzel, a young girl taken by a witch
and locked in a tower. Rapunzel is a story collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the Brothers
Grimm, about a young girl locked in a tower. Although they seem quite similar, there are quite a
few differences between the movie Tangled and the Brothers Grimm Rapunzel . One difference
occurs at the beginning and how the evil witch gains possession of Rapunzel. In the Brothers
Grimm story, the witch agrees to let the man give the rampion from her garden to his wife as
long as she gets their first born. She said the child that will come into the world must be given to
me. It shall go well with the child, and I will care for it like a mother. In the movie Tangled, a
queen is pregnant and gets sick. To heal her, people are sent out to look for a flower that cures
all diseases. When the baby is born, she has magical hair that can heal everybody and make you
young again. The evil witch breaks into the castle to cut a piece of the baby s hair but learns that

Critical Analysis Of Self Leadership And Positive Psychology
Introduction
Utilising a combined self leadership and positive psychology perspective, I will self analyse my
strengths and weaknesses through the use of questionnaires completed throughout the semester to
gain a deeper understanding of my personality traits in my chosen career. The career path I have
chosen is Human Resources (HR) and everything analysed will be in respect of that path.
A definition of self leadership is the process of influencing oneself to establish the self direction
and self motivation needed to perform (Manz, 1995). Positive Psychology is the study of the
conditions and processes that contribute to the flourishing or optimal functioning of people, groups,
and institutions (Gable Haidt, 2005; Sheldon King, 2001).
Critical analysis of Self leadership and Positive Psychology
Self leadership is very important for a number of reasons, including:
1.To enhance job effectiveness and develop personally and professionally.
2.To achieve career potential and growth such as promotions, salary increases, job satisfaction and
job choice.
3.To enhance individual and group well being such as health and happiness.
4.Becoming an emotionally intelligent professional capable of leading effectively.
By gaining a clearer understanding of self leadership the elements of positive psychology can be
incorporated. Positive psychology looks at the circumstances and processes that enable individuals,
teams and organisations to grow and develop at a high level.

Theory Of Moral Development In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
Jem s Analysis
Kohlberg s Theory of Moral Development reflects on the idea that people s decisions are based on
how they process the importance of a situation. According to his theory, there are three stages of
moral development: preconventional, conventional, and postconventional. Each level is based on
how a person s reflects to making a moral decision. In each level there are two stages on how their
level of sophistication affected their way of thinking.
The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an example of moral development because as the
book progresses the reader can tell how Jem finds himself having to make moral decisions.
Although the book is narrated by Scout (Jem s younger sister) the reader can see that Jem changes
his way of thinking as the situations that occur makes him think a certain way. Jem has to
experience and observe situations that make him question his way of seeing the world around him.
Jem begins the moral development at conventional because in the beginning of the book Jem is
more worried about winning the approval of his friends and showing his bravery.
The first stage in Kohlberg s Moral Development is called Preconventional and that is when a
person is more worried about the reward and the punishment that comes with a certain situation
(powerpoint). When a person is at this stage they are more worried about what would happen to
them than to the people around them. A child who is at this stage has not yet adapted to the society s

The Effects Of Brain Trauma On The Brain
Brain trauma occurs when an external force causes injury to the brain. It s classified in a variety of
different classes based on the severity of the injury, mechanisms: closed or penetrating head injury,
and location of injury. However, in many cases of brain trauma the damage is traumatic, affecting
the brain, physical capabilities, mental fortitude, personality, and behavior. In addition to the
impairment of abilities and behavior after the trauma, the journey to recovery is long and hard.
F.K a victim of brain trauma experienced the long journey of recovery that resulted from his
injury. F.K s life preceding his injury was relatively normal. He was a carpet layer who enjoyed
normal hobbies including: car racing and country music. He was recently separated from his
wife and three, however this was not the worst event in his life. On November 10, 1998, F.K
was in a car accident in which he struck the back of his head, causing severe bleeding from his
mouth and back of his head. Upon arriving at the hospital he was given a CT scan, and the areas
of the brain that were injured were revealed. He suffered with occipital skull fractures, a cerebellar
hematoma, and diffuse cerebral swelling. Due, to the severity this injury F.K received neurosurgical
assistance in which the doctors performed a lobotomy. The doctors removed a portion of the brain
tissue in the frontal parietal lobe, the anterior temporal lobeall on the left side of his brain. After his

Introduction I was taken aback as I read the lead story of The Red Black, the University of

The Species Corvus Corax
The species Corvus corax is well known and recognized as one of the smartest animals in the

in recent years. A good number of them support this withstanding belief of high intelligence. Others
reveal gaps in factors of their intelligence that were not previously presumed.. Pfuhl (2012), Schied

In the recent decades, this theory of high intelligence has gone under much research and
experimentation to intent to establish the extent of corvid cognition. Multiple studies have been
conductive on Corvus corax examining its cognitive abilities. They have related these abilities to
the species phenology and evolution along with other cognitively gifted animals, such as apes (van
Horik et al. 2012). While the belief of high intelligence remains relatively true for certain cognitive
aspects such as spatial reasoning and memory, these corvids prove less competent in the areas like
contextual understanding and problem solving with patterns.

Well Developed Cognitive Processes Reasoning. Spatial reasoning plays into the concept of
intelligence and it aids to the survival of organisms. It is useful to know one s orientation in the

strings, alternating the position of the food and wood in the string and putting the strings at a

Response to 13, 1977, 21 by Jonathan Lethem
Alyssa M. Gonzalez
13, 1977, 21
In Jonathan Lethem s personal narrative essay, 13, 1977, 21 , Lethem reflects on when he was
13 years old, in the year 1977, where he watched the film Star Wars 21 times. But the essay is not
actually about the Star Wars film. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove
himself, or hide from the realities of his life, such as his mother s illness and awkward pre teenage
years.
The first few sentences of Lethem s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he s watched
Star Wars twenty one times in four months. He then uses the next three paragraphs to reflect on the
circumstances surrounding his trips to the movie theater in the summer of 1977 and trying to ...

The tone could be described as witty, but also nostalgic. Along with reflecting on his trips to the
movie theater, Lethem reflects on his awkward pre teen years, where it was speculated by his
parents that he was gay, and he followed a girl to her ballet class.
I m totally unsure, but I believe Lethem numbered each paragraph to go along with the
significance of numbers in his essay. The title itself, 13, 1977, 21 , begins to make sense once he
introduces the events of 1977, where he watched a film 21 times, at the age of 13. These three
numbers are very significant to him because he thinks of the twenty one times he watched the
movie as him maturing, almost like a Bar Mitzvah, at thirteen years old. Lethem also believed
watching the movie twenty times would be too mechanically round , and that adding the one more
time would be more realistic. He also ends the essay at paragraph twenty one the amount of times
he went to see Star Wars.
Lethem s twenty one trips to the movie theater to see Star Wars was not entirely his
fascination with or liking of the movie. He used the Astor Plaza as a hiding place from the gradual
loss of his mother to natural illness, and already absent father. Watching the film so many times in
the summer of 1977 helped Lethem cope with his pre teenage struggles, and he describes it as when
he invented himself in the vacuum collision of

The benefits of remaining anonymous online are evident if you are any sort of a hacker or if you

the article Inside The Dark Web Max Eddy describes this browser and how it works: Most people
take the Internet at face value, but what most of us interact with is really just a slice of the
information available called the Surface Web. To get to the Dark Web we have to go deeper,
away from the world of standard Web addresses and onto the anonymity network called Tor.
When you click on a link in Google, you re connected with the target information fairly directly.
Someone accessing the same site while connected through Tor would have their request bounced
randomly through volunteer computers called nodes before exiting Tor and arriving at the site,
making their online movements much harder to track. (Eddy, Max) If your computer is ever

Oppression in Belarus
Breaking Free from Russia Belarus has the veil of a political stranglehold cast over it by the
looming and neighboring Russia. Freedoms are non existent, a tyrant maintains control over the
country, and democracy is nowhere in sight. I have a few recommendations on how U.S. foreign
policy towards Belarus can help fix many of these issues, and help direct the country towards
Democracy. First, I will highlight some history on the so called Republic of Belarus to help put
some context on the situation.
Belarus became one of the first members of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to elections in the early 1990 s, and Belarus declared itself independent in July 27th,
1990, and wrote a Declaration of State Sovereignty. The newly formed republic became
primarily communist, mainly because of all the Russian integration that had already occurred. In
1994, The Republic of Belarus elected Alexander Lukashenko as the President of Belarus. He
was officially reelected in 2001, 2006 and 2010. However, the United States (as well as other
western Nations) does not recognize the results of the 2010 elections under which the Central
Election Commission of Belarus declared Lukashenko president. This is because Western countries
decried the election as a farce and an egregious affront to democracy and human rights. Many of
Lukashenko s opposition leaders had mysterious disappearances. The United States and the
European Union called for the release of all imprisoned former candidates, but took no further
action except a travel ban on Lukashenko. By contrast, countries such as Syria, Russia, and China
congratulated the re elected incumbent. This is just a sample of the Dictatorship that is veiled as a
Republic in Belarus.
Transitioning into Democracy
For a nation to truly be free, certain rights have to be available to the people. Freedom of speech,
press, peaceful assembly, and religion are just a few of these things.

Laurence Made A Habit Of Leaving The Cabin Essay
Laurence made a habit of leaving the cabin at first light. He liked the idea that his mother might
be totally oblivious to whether or not he came home at all during the evening. He had spent the
previous day sauntering between the front yard where he chopped firewood and the shaded cabin
deck where he drank cold lemonade. Every so often, mostly when Laurence was chopping apart
the forest wood, an image of the ranger s scarred and malformed face wandered into his mind. He
could not think what sort of gruesome accident or attack could have caused someone to look so
malevolent. It took most of two days to chop all of the cabin s firewood. During this time, Mrs.
Rayes spent her time alternating between drink and sleep. When Laurence had chopped all of the
cabin s wood, Laurence began to explore the forest that lined the cabin s yard and that confined the
day s light to a small, square patch of dried grass where upon his quaint cabin stood. In order to
mark his passage through the tangled forest, he made small, triangular gouges in the trunkof every
seven or five or three trees. The ease in which his hatchet cut marks into the limbs of each tree
excited Laurence. With each successive mark, Laurence felt his life made all the more significant.
Without conscience effort, the marks he made in each tree became deeper and more damaging.

Analysis Of David Hanson s Carnage And Culture Essay
Question2: In Carnage and Culture, Victor David Hanson expressed a slanted perspective about the
crucial battles in western history in order to support his theory that western militaristic strategies
are superior to alternative forms of warfare. He fostered his sentiments by explaining how specific
battletactics can unify or divide a nation in a matter of moments. However, his reference to the
concept that western warriors continuously triumph in war, is expressed in a manner that does not
fully evaluate both perspectives of the conflict. Hanson alluded to his message behind Carnage and
Culture in his thesis: A sense of personal freedom, superior discipline, matchless weapons,
egalitarian camaraderie, individual initiative, constant tactical adaptations, and flexibility,
preference for shock battle of heavy infantry were themselves the murderous dividend of Hellenic
culture at large ... Yet for the past 2,500 years even in the Dark Ages, well before the Military
Revolution, and not simply as a result of the Renaissance, the European discovery of the Americas,
or the Industrial Revolution there has been a peculiar practice of Western warfare, a common
foundation and continual way of fighting, that has made Europeans the most deadly soldiers the
history of civilizations. (Hanson 5 6)

What Is Brown V Board Of Education Essay
Although American schools were technically desegregated by the landmark U.S. Supreme Court
decision handed down in Brown v. Board of Education, in practice they remained largely segregated
due to trends in housing and neighborhood segregation. Consequently, busing came to be a main
remedy by which the courts sought to end racial segregation in the U.S. schools. The court s 1970
ruling in Swann v. Charlotte Mecklenburg Board of Education furthered desegregation efforts by
upholding busing as a constitutional means to achieve integration within a school district. Due to
patterns of residential segregation, busing became a principal tool for promoting school
desegregation, by which minority students were transported to largely white schools and white
students were brought to largely minority schools. It was intended to safeguard the Civil Rights of
students and to provide equal opportunity in public education. Also, busing was an... Show more

Board of Education case initially accomplished relatively little in terms of achieving a truly
integrated public education system. The Supreme Court said in 1954 that schools should be
integrated, but in the following year, the court allowed the opponents of desegregation to frame
the process. Due to the program not receiving sufficient support, allocating sufficient money with
which to function well, indifferently staffed, and many areas of resistance, the case consequently
remained immobile. However, the Brown v. Board decision itself was a huge step forward: It
shifted the way society as a whole viewed race and helped begin to challenge what many people
had long considered acceptable. Ultimately, the court case became to be an effective instrument in
achieving successful school desegregation, in that its importance was realized and the program

Abstract: Portfolio matrix is probably the most important tool for strategic marketing planning,
especially in the strategy selection stage. Position of the organization in the portfolio matrix and it s
corresponding marketing strategy depends on the aggregation of values of relevant strategic factors.
Traditional approach to portfolio matrix analysis uses averaging function as an aggregation
operator. This approach is very limited in realistic business environment characterized by complex

It is clear that the use of weighted arithmetic mean as an aggregation operator can t express all the
possible interactions between strategic factors that exist in a realistic business environment. This
explains why the traditional approach to portfolio matrix analysis is highly limited, with the
inherited weaknesses that can t be overcome without substantial modification. Therefore, under
previous conditions, it is obvious that a new approach to portfolio matrix analysis is needed. This
new approach must take in consideration all the possible forms of interactions between strategic
factors that can occur in a realistic business environment.
These interactions can be expressed with a logical aggregation operator, so a new approach to
portfolio matrix analysis can be based on this operator. W eighted arithmetic mean and other
known aggregation operators are just, as we will see in the following sections, special cases of
logical aggregation operator.
2. THE MCDONALD S DIRECTIONAL POLICY MATRIX (DPM)
Although the DPM, like other models of portfolio matrices, attempts to define an organization s
strategic position and strategy alternatives, this objective can t be met without considering what is
meant by the term
„organization . The accepted level at which an organization can be analysed using the DPM is
that of the
„strategic business unit . The most common

How Is The American Dream Relevant Today
America Continues to Dream The American Dream has almost always been an ideal which has
changed from generation to generation. In this paper, we will examine the changes that the
American Dream has gone through since 1849. Along with the changes we will examine the
purpose of the American Dream, who it is meant for, and why we believe in it. We will also
define what the American Dream is in today s time. Doing this in turn will give a deeper insight to
the American Dream, as well as the mindset of America. It is essential that we pinpoint the driving
force that motivates many Americans to get to the next day. To properly address the American
Dream, we must examine its origins. The American Dream is said to have begun in 1738 with

The first is to distract us from our daily lives. It does this by promising a higher status than what
we currently have although it has worked in the past it is beginning to fail since 2008. The
American Dream also makes us ignore the issues that we face daily. This allows us to use the
American Dream to escape the issues we face and dream of a better life. It also allows us to
imagine that there is no poverty around us. This can cause a false sense of reality which whisks
us away from the usual life that we live. The ideal of being removed from reality also creates a
tunnel vision for many Americans. The dream ends when we see something that does not line up
with the American Dream (Waters, 2013, p. 7). The American Dream seems as if it has out lived
itself, but for some that is not the case. The reason some people still believe in the American dream
is because of the false reality that it provides Americans. There is another reason that Americans
believe in the American Dream, and that is due to the motivation that it provides to surpass the
social class that we were born into. This has been true since the beginning of the concept of the

Frank Jackson and Physicalism Essay
Frank Jackson and Physicalism
Frank Jackson begins his article by writing about what he feels to be a fatal flaw in physicalism.
He writes a story about a girl named Mary who is raised in a black and white room. In this room
Mary was taught everything there is to know about the physical world. The only catch is she
learned only from media, which was black and white, so she knows nothing of the colors outside
this room. After learning everything about the physical world, she is then given the chance to see
color. She will then learn what color is in the world. For this reason Jackson believes physicalism to
be false. Jackson contends that if physicalism were true, Mary would know what a color looks like
before she would ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with this for physicalism is that fact Mary would realize how mistaken her knowledge
of other s conceptions has been. Even though Mary would have known all of the neurological
processes in a person s mind, she would not have known the person s actual experience involved
in the process. There would also be facts she did not know about objects, but she would know all
physical facts about them. For this reason it is not any experience the object may have, but a
fact about the object itself. In the article the main point seems to be the fact that, for example,
Mary would see red for the first time she would be learning something. However, physicalism is
not threatened merely by the fact Mary learns something. The factor disproving physicalism is
the fact Mary learns something new about the object that is red. For example she can see a
tomato is now read. Her teachings showed her all physical attributes to the tomato and she would
know everything about it. The problem is that she had no idea what red was until she saw red,
therefore she did not know everything physical about the tomato. If physicalism were true, Mary
would have known exactly what the red tomato looked like before she saw it, including the
redness it displayed. After reading the Jackson article I have concluded that I agree with the points
being made against physicalism. The example that I believe disproves physicalism is trying to

The Effects Of Homeschooling On Children And Public Schools
Introduction: Homeschooling is becoming much more common now than it was years ago. Parents
are now preferring to homeschool their children over public school due to many reasons such as
religion, safety, academic quality travel, family togetherness, separation of government and school,
mastery over grades, expenses, and focusing on learning plans made for the student. Public schools
are institutions, which are funded by tax revenues from the government. Schools have boundaries
to then figure out which students will attend a certain schoolto avoid overcrowding. The schools
curriculum is drawn up by the state and they follow a standardized testing result and other
measurements, which gives the state information of how the school is performing. According to
Isabel Shaw, there are an abundance of pros and cons of deicing to homeschool your children.
Some key points from this article were:
Homeschooling Pros The advantages of homeschooling your children are that as a parent you get
to decide what your child learns and at what age depending on their ability and level of interested
and as a student you get to choose how long you want to learn about a topic and when you want
to. During difficult times in the family or new transitions such as having a baby, moving, or a death
in the family, homeschooling stabilizes the family because you don t have to worry about missing
school since you can figure out a time that works best for the family to continue learning during

Full Inclusion In Early Childhood Education
In early childhood, many five to eight year olds, are included in general education classes for at
least part of the day. School districts implement full inclusion. I could not stress the enough.
When I was younger in elementary school I had an IEP. Having an IEP already made me feel
like an outcast and having to go to a separate room made that feeling even worse. I understand in
some severe cases children have to be separated. In my case I just need the teacher to go a little
slower and explain the concept a few times. The schoolshould have had teachers equip to handle
this situation. I did not need a separate room to learn the information I just need a little help, which
the teacher could have easily applied.
The book notes that Children

Ernest Hemingway s We All Fall Down
I would like to thank you for this amazing and wonderful novel, We All Fall Down. The novel has
a very meaningful story behind it, as it explains the story of a young boy and his father who
experience the attack of September 11 while they were at the World Trade Center tower in New
York. The thing that I loved the most was the relationship between Will and his father,John. At
the beginning of the story their relationship wasn t very good. Will always thought that his father
didn t really love him because he was always busy at work and he was never there for him. Later
on, we see how his father really loves him and risks his life to save his son, which proves to Will
that he s very special to his father. That bond between them got stronger,

  • 2. The Theme Of Companionship In Of Mice And Men How does the author, John Steinbeck, suggest the death of companionship and inevitability of loneliness, in the novella Of mice and Men? In the novella Of mice and men there is a consistent theme of loneliness is shown throughout the novella. In the novella, there is also a strong sense of the death of companionship within it, Candy and his dog and George both experience the death of their companionship within the story. While Curley s Wife and Crooks experience loneliness. All of the characters experience this theme of loneliness throughout the story whether through the death of one s companionship or never having a companionship in the first place. In the novella Of mice and Men the character Candy gives us a good representation of the meaning of the death of companionship within and throughout the book. There are multiple examples of this but one in particular comes to mind; he rolled slowly over and faced the wall and lay silently Indicates to us the sorrow and the pain he feels, and grieves in misery over the death of his companionship. This conveys an image of loss and embarrassment, this is shown by him facing the wall and laying silently as he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Curleys wife in the novella wants to gain attention from other characters, in the hopes of her getting companion that she truly desires, something similar to Crooks. This is clearly indicated to us by Curley s wife responding; Why can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely. and her words tumbled out in a passion of communication Like stated before, she s trying to use her language to gain the attention of other characters and for them to sympathise her, this again is very similar to ... • 3. Birds Are Very Successful Essay Birds are a group of animal which consist of many species, all of which play various roles in several ecological niches. Birds are considered biologically successful due in fact to the number of species present. Currently, there are approximately 10,000 species of birds, which is almost double the amount of species of mammals or amphibians. The differences which separate birds from mammals and make them more successful are the presence of large yolked eggs, which support the offspring until birth, and the absence of lactation which allows for greater energy usage and efficiency. Birds have developed these adaptations over the course of thousands of years. Additionally, birds are considered biologically successful due to the fact that they are found on almost every continent on Earth. Examples include several species of birds in the forests of North and South America and Asia, several species of birds in the cities of Europe, and the flocks of the presence of ostriches and various other birds in the planes of Africa and Australia, and very notably, the existence of penguins in... Birds have small, light, and condensed body forms when compared to other animals. Their anatomical mapping of their organs and muscles, show that these are located nearest to the center of gravity, which provides better balance during flight. Also, the presence and scheme of their feathers, which are contour, allow for the body to be covered tightly. This makes it streamline and somewhat reduces the effect experienced by drag. Primary feathers are on the wings help in flight and also provide wing shape, while Down feathers are soft and act as insulation. • 4. Where We All Began Humans: Where We All Began Humans have roamed this earth for thousands of years. Considering that, we can t help but raise the question of where we all came from. Around the 1950s, it was widely believed among European scientists that Homo sapiens originated in Europe or Asia around 60,000 years ago. Based on more recent discoveries by Mary Leakey and her husband Louis while excavating in East Africa, we now believe that Homo sapiens may have first emerged in Africa many years earlier. Of course it is impossible to know exactly when the human species first emerged, but based on fossil evidence, most paleoarchaeologists believe that around 6 million years ago, the human ancestral line split from that of the chimpanzeeand evolved into a new group. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was only around 3ВЅ feet tall and had very long arms. Based on her body s shape, she was believed to be able to walk upright on two legs and also climb trees with great ease, scientists believe that her species used resources from various environments, such as woodlands and grasslands. Judging from the evidence of large muscles on her arms and upper torso, she must have had very powerful upper arms and a strong chest. She had feet that were capable of supporting her entire weight, but her toes resembled that of a tree climbing ape, being long and curved. Despite her physical resemblance to ape species, her body was very capable of supporting her weight while walking upright. She had thigh bones that were angled inwards and a short, broad pelvis that helped keep her body upright. These are both required in order to walk efficiently on two legs. Lucy was a very early stage of hominid species that have since taken on different shapes and become more and more capable of thriving on this planet. From studying fossilized bones such as that of Lucy s, we can pursue further studies on how greatly humans have evolved over the years. (Human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Potential for Future Crop Loss Essay The Potential for Future Crop Loss On the subject of potential crop loss there are several variables, which influence drought and plant disease resulting in a loss of crops. The first variable is that of drought. Drought is a result of shifting weather patterns, which changes the amount of precipitation an area receives. There are three major causes of drought, deficient and unfavorably distributed precipitation, excess heat and warm winds (Nemanishen, 1998, p.35). Historically the grasslands of North America have had a highly varied climate with years of drought immediately followed by years of sufficient precipitation. For example, in the area of the Palliser Triangle in the grasslands of Canada, wheat crop loss has been seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Krick identified twelve major North American weather patters which paved the way for long term weather forecasts that are now used universally in farming and crop production (Nemanishen, 1998, p.27). It is understood that migratory cold blows bring moisture to the Great Plains and grasslands it is important to track these cold blows in order to identify wet and drought seasons. Also understood is the effect humans have on the weather patterns. At least two of the past three major droughts have coincided with changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere over the northern hemisphere (Borchert, 1971, p.7). It is undeniable that human use of land has modified atmospheric moisture patterns. Also effecting moisture patterns is solar radiation. For example, in years with high volcanic activity solar radiation was lower because the atmosphere was not as transparent. Higher solar radiation results in less precipitation due to excess heat resulting in drought (Nemanishen, 1998, p.36). It is difficult to deny that drought occurs rhythmically, however, on account of the great randomness of weather we are only able to forecast when the next drought may be and gauge its severity depending on what is known about the previous years. Another variable resulting in crop loss is that of plant disease, and more specifically late blight. Late blight is caused by the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans ... • 6. Mindfulness Reflection Paper I have a somewhat regular, yet sincere contemplative mindfulness practice that helps me understand why I experience life the way I do both internally and externally. I get to see my own urges, those I m not really aware of such as the urge to multi task. Practicing mindfulness meditation and other mindfulness practices I learned to become in touch with my own urges and to control them through awareness and self discipline. So, here are a few reflections for your coffee time. As you sip on your deliciously made aromatic coffee, tea or hot cocoa accept these thoughts for your reflection. Finally, at the 3rd mindfulness class I took with Daniel, I decided to do the homework he had suggested to everyone, which was to do one thing we do routinely during the day, mindfully. That is to be with the experience of it and fully giving it our undivided attention. For example, if we chose brushing our teeth, he said, to brush slowly, feel every stroke as the brush moved around the mouth, what it felt like, the taste of the tooth paste, what the mind was doing; observe everything about that experience, while also focusing on our breath. This was our mindfulness exercise, which to me didn t sound too exciting. It took a lot of self discipline to be able to stay with an activity and not wonder off in the mind. So,I never did the tooth brush exercise. Until that final day of having burnt my 967th pita bread and screamed to myself, this is so annoying. It s not acceptable anymore! The ... • 7. Critical Analysis Of Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely As A... Critical theory , in terms of literature, can be defined as a form of criticism through the close reading of a text and the application of knowledge acquired from the study of the humanities. The multiple readings mentioned in the question refers to the different schools of literary criticism for example, structuralism, feminist theory, new historicism/cultural materialism, ecocriticism and postcolonial criticism. It is true to say that Wordsworth s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud can be read and interpreted in many different ways, especially when both the original and revised versions of the poem are taken into account. In my opinion, the most interesting criticism that can be applied to this poem is structuralism, which I will be analysing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. What Is The Theme Of The Starry Night By Vincent Van Gogh In 1889 Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night from his room in an asylum. Most artists paintings have something to do with their lives. This painting has a lot of different brush textures with a lot of little details. It looks like a calm quiet night by the tone of the colors, but somewhere there is something going on, hence the flames. By just glancing at this it may seem like there is not much going on but by looking at some parts closely, it is noticeable. In the painting The Starry Night by Vincent van Goghthere is a bunch of different textures added to the painting with details of a small town during the night time. Everyone can agree that the painting appears to be at night due to the color schemes. Choosing cool tones instead of using vivid colors gives the interpretation on what time of day it is. The color that is spread all throughout the painting is dark blue with a variety of types of blue fading off. Someone that just takes a glimpse may think there are just blobs of yellow in the sky, however if you concentrate you will realize they represent stars. The stars have a center dot in the middle with yellow and white shades fading off into the sky making them extremely bright. Back in the day any light that came from the sky was the source of light once the sun went down. In the top left corner, you can notice the crest of the moon, that is vividly shaded in with a dark yellow. The painter continues his technique of showing the amount of light both the stars ... • 9. Marilyn Grief Attachment, expectedness, and grief accumulation, are important variables that impact the way an individual experiences grief, further influencing the way they heal (Golden, 2000). Marilyn is experiencing circumstances that influence how she is grieving. Her son, who was a major part of her life, died unexpectedly in a car accident. Additionally, she is experiencing accumulated grief from a lack of closure after her father passed away. Golden (2000) reports that when an individual loses someone they are very attached to they will experience a greater degree of grief. Furthermore, if the loss was unexpected, such as a car accident, the grief will be significantly different than if it was expected. Another important factor in the grieving process focuses on the presence of accumulated grief. If grief isn t acknowledged and/or dealt with, it can have an impact on everyday life and can affect the way an individual copes with other grief occurrences (Golden, 2000). Marilyn still has unresolved issues revolving around her parents divorce and subsequent deathof her father.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, feelings of guilt and powerlessness can permeate the healing process and complicate grief when a child dies (Matzo Sherman, 2015). • 10. Online Learning Vs. Traditional Classroom Learning Online Learning vs. Traditional Classroom Learning Crystal I. Grimes Grimes9892@mail.philau.edu IT 201 Professor Jim Greene Abstract: Technology has had and imperative influence in almost every aspect of life. It has also made an impact on how we learn today. Some question how effective learning could be via the internet, while most stick with the familiarity of traditional classroom learning. Either option you choose still substantiates that technology has changed the way we learn and will continue to expand on its influences with the ways we choose to progress educationally. Each educational platform has it disadvantages, however the advantages pose alternatives that can suit an individual s educational needs. With technology influencing almost every aspect of common activities, it s not unusual for it to influence the way we learn. The traditional classroom environment is being challenged with the implementation of online learning. With major technological advances over the last 20 years, many traditional classroom environments have been replaced with online learning platforms that create convenient, accelerated, and comprehensive learning opportunities around the world. Although some would beg the differ that online learning can replace classroom education completely, online education continues to improve allowing it to become a more trustworthy alternative for learning. Since the traditional classroom environment pacifies familiarity in education some opt for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Stormbreaker Chapter 7 Analysis Reading Chapter seven of Stormbreaker caused me to have a lot of mixed emotions. In the beginning, I didn t see the point of the first paragraph so, of course, I reread it serval times. Because I read it several times and still didn t understand, I started of reading chapter seven in confusion. As I got closer towards the middle of the chapter, I wasn t confused at all. In fact, the less confused I was, the more I liked it! There was only one thing I noticed that made this chapter stick out from the previous chapters is, Alex s problem. When I first started reading, I was expecting for Alex to have a physical problem, or at least a problem that can be easily solved. Instead, Alex had two emotional problems. For example: At the end year of the 2014 2015 school year, we were assigned workbook pages worth a test grade. For everybody else this wasn t a huge deal, but it was for me. I had an eighty in the class and my test average was high. That meant, anything below a ninety five, would cause me to fail. If I failed, I wouldn t be allowed to come back to Davidson! Since it was assigned, I couldn t do anything but think of the worst possibilities, just like Alex. Just like Alex screwed up by blowing his cover, I screwed up by not answering a question, but just like he covered it up, I did too. Except I got caught and received a ninety nine. Founded as Magdalen Hall The Bishop of Winchester, William of Wayflete founded the forerunner to the college Magdalen Hall in 1448 on the High Street. The good bishop was a leading educational reformer of the day, with a passion for Renaissance ideas and had, by this time, already helped to establish schools to promote his new views. He had also been Provost of Eton: one of England s leading and most influential schools. Wayflete s ambition, wealth and connections with Henry VI enabled him to acquire the nearby site of an old tumble down hospital, sitting on vast tracts of land just outside the city walls. It was here, the present site, that Magdalen became a proper college in 1458. Wayflete made use of some of the existing buildings, as a temporary arrangement, until his grand, purpose built college was complete. However the inherited chapel and hospital hall remained in use and traces still survive to this today. The name honours Mary Magdalen who is said to have undergone a spiritual transformation after meeting Christ in Galilee. • 13. Difference Between The Aeneid And The Iliad Regardless of the time frame, Virgil s Aeneid and Homer s epic the Iliad share both a copious amount of similarities and differences. For example, many common themes such as heroism, fate, and destiny are apparent in both works. Within the Aeneid and the Iliad, it is seen that the wars going on during that time were glorious that is why the role of gods were significant in leading both Aeneasand Achilles and influencing fate. In both texts, it is clear from the beginning that the role of the gods is to make Aeneas and Achilles fulfill their journey The Iliadfocuses on the end of the Trojan Warand the damaging power, while the Aeneid is focused during the aftermath of the war and underlies the foundation for the new civilization. This paper will address and argue the comparison of the role of gods and how each of the authors representation of the gods have influence on the lives of mortals. In both the Aeneid and the Iliad their main characters were chosen by gods because they have gained favor. Aeneas and Achilles were chosen because they were destined to fulfill a journey. The gods in both works directed the lives of mortals, but, were also very specific on who they would help. The gods determined the destiny of the mortals. Achilles and Aeneas are similar in the sense that they have become favorable in the eyes of the gods, partially because of their divine nepotism but also because they stand out from ordinary men by having a great military and physical prowess. ... • 14. Same Sex Marriage Has Become Legal And The View On Lgbtq... In eighteenth and nineteenth century Europe, also known as the Enlightenment Era, same sex behaviors were typically seen in a negative light. Sometimes even punished due to laws that were in place at the time, sodomy laws. Somewhere in the 1920s people began to assume that homosexuality could be changed through psychology. This movement was so popular at the time that even Freud stated that homosexualitycould sometimes be removed through hypnotic suggestion. However, this fact was disproven by United States Surgeon General David Satcher in a report, there is no valid scientific evidence that sexual orientationcan be changed. Since this time same sex marriage has become legal and the view on LGBTQ seems to have shifted, at least in a majority. Each culture has its own beliefs and perceptions when it comes to homosexuality. In the United States, those perceptions differ between lesbian or gay, as parents, across cultures, and in education. When those with different perceptions get together, it could be beneficial to see things from the other s point of view, or it could be detrimental and cause some sort of fight. However, the biggest detriment could be with the person who is a homosexual, negative effects on health and well being of this individual. Rapunzel is a story collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the Brothers Grimm, about a young girl locked in a tower. Although they seem quite similar, there are quite a few differences between the movie Tangled and the Brothers Grimm Rapunzel . One difference occurs at the beginning and how the evil witch gains possession of Rapunzel. In the Brothers Grimm story, the witch agrees to let the man give the rampion from her garden to his wife as long as she gets their first born. She said the child that will come into the world must be given to me. It shall go well with the child, and I will care for it like a mother. In the movie Tangled, a queen is pregnant and gets sick. To heal her, people are sent out to look for a flower that cures all diseases. When the baby is born, she has magical hair that can heal everybody and make you young again. Critical Analysis Of Self Leadership And Positive Psychology Introduction Utilising a combined self leadership and positive psychology perspective, I will self analyse my strengths and weaknesses through the use of questionnaires completed throughout the semester to gain a deeper understanding of my personality traits in my chosen career. The career path I have chosen is Human Resources (HR) and everything analysed will be in respect of that path. A definition of self leadership is the process of influencing oneself to establish the self direction and self motivation needed to perform (Manz, 1995). Positive Psychology is the study of the conditions and processes that contribute to the flourishing or optimal functioning of people, groups, and institutions (Gable Haidt, 2005; Sheldon King, 2001). Critical analysis of Self leadership and Positive Psychology Self leadership is very important for a number of reasons, including: 1.To enhance job effectiveness and develop personally and professionally. 2.To achieve career potential and growth such as promotions, salary increases, job satisfaction and job choice. 3.To enhance individual and group well being such as health and happiness. 4.Becoming an emotionally intelligent professional capable of leading effectively. • 22. Theory Of Moral Development In To Kill A Mockingbird By... Jem s Analysis Kohlberg s Theory of Moral Development reflects on the idea that people s decisions are based on how they process the importance of a situation. According to his theory, there are three stages of moral development: preconventional, conventional, and postconventional. Each level is based on how a person s reflects to making a moral decision. In each level there are two stages on how their level of sophistication affected their way of thinking. The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is an example of moral development because as the book progresses the reader can tell how Jem finds himself having to make moral decisions. Although the book is narrated by Scout (Jem s younger sister) the reader can see that Jem changes his way of thinking as the situations that occur makes him think a certain way. Jem has to experience and observe situations that make him question his way of seeing the world around him. Jem begins the moral development at conventional because in the beginning of the book Jem is more worried about winning the approval of his friends and showing his bravery. The first stage in Kohlberg s Moral Development is called Preconventional and that is when a person is more worried about the reward and the punishment that comes with a certain situation (powerpoint). When a person is at this stage they are more worried about what would happen to them than to the people around them. A child who is at this stage has not yet adapted to the society s ... But the essay is not actually about the Star Wars film. It is about the way Lethem used going to the movies to remove himself, or hide from the realities of his life, such as his mother s illness and awkward pre teenage years. The first few sentences of Lethem s essay is where he blatantly tells the readers that he s watched Star Wars twenty one times in four months. The tone could be described as witty, but also nostalgic. Along with reflecting on his trips to the movie theater, Lethem reflects on his awkward pre teen years, where it was speculated by his parents that he was gay, and he followed a girl to her ballet class. I m totally unsure, but I believe Lethem numbered each paragraph to go along with the significance of numbers in his essay. The title itself, 13, 1977, 21 , begins to make sense once he introduces the events of 1977, where he watched a film 21 times, at the age of 13. These three numbers are very significant to him because he thinks of the twenty one times he watched the movie as him maturing, almost like a Bar Mitzvah, at thirteen years old. Lethem also believed watching the movie twenty times would be too mechanically round , and that adding the one more time would be more realistic. He also ends the essay at paragraph twenty one the amount of times he went to see Star Wars. Lethem s twenty one trips to the movie theater to see Star Wars was not entirely his fascination with or liking of the movie. He used the Astor Plaza as a hiding place from the gradual loss of his mother to natural illness, and already absent father. Watching the film so many times in the summer of 1977 helped Lethem cope with his pre teenage struggles, and he describes it as when he invented himself in the vacuum collision of ... Every so often, mostly when Laurence was chopping apart the forest wood, an image of the ranger s scarred and malformed face wandered into his mind. Due to the program not receiving sufficient support, allocating sufficient money with which to function well, indifferently staffed, and many areas of resistance, the case consequently remained immobile. However, the Brown v. Board decision itself was a huge step forward: It shifted the way society as a whole viewed race and helped begin to challenge what many people had long considered acceptable. Ultimately, the court case became to be an effective instrument in achieving successful school desegregation, in that its importance was realized and the program became to be adequately financed and wisely ... Position of the organization in the portfolio matrix and it s corresponding marketing strategy depends on the aggregation of values of relevant strategic factors. Traditional approach to portfolio matrix analysis uses averaging function as an aggregation operator. This approach is very limited in realistic business environment characterized by complex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that the use of weighted arithmetic mean as an aggregation operator can t express all the possible interactions between strategic factors that exist in a realistic business environment. This explains why the traditional approach to portfolio matrix analysis is highly limited, with the inherited weaknesses that can t be overcome without substantial modification. Therefore, under previous conditions, it is obvious that a new approach to portfolio matrix analysis is needed. This new approach must take in consideration all the possible forms of interactions between strategic factors that can occur in a realistic business environment. These interactions can be expressed with a logical aggregation operator, so a new approach to portfolio matrix analysis can be based on this operator. W eighted arithmetic mean and other known aggregation operators are just, as we will see in the following sections, special cases of logical aggregation operator. 2. THE MCDONALD S DIRECTIONAL POLICY MATRIX (DPM) Although the DPM, like other models of portfolio matrices, attempts to define an organization s strategic position and strategy alternatives, this objective can t be met without considering what is meant by the term „organization . The accepted level at which an organization can be analysed using the DPM is that of the „strategic business unit . The most common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with the changes we will examine the purpose of the American Dream, who it is meant for, and why we believe in it. We will also define what the American Dream is in today s time. Doing this in turn will give a deeper insight to the American Dream, as well as the mindset of America. It is essential that we pinpoint the driving force that motivates many Americans to get to the next day. To properly address the American Dream, we must examine its origins. It does this by promising a higher status than what we currently have although it has worked in the past it is beginning to fail since 2008. The American Dream also makes us ignore the issues that we face daily. This allows us to use the American Dream to escape the issues we face and dream of a better life. It also allows us to imagine that there is no poverty around us. This can cause a false sense of reality which whisks us away from the usual life that we live. The ideal of being removed from reality also creates a tunnel vision for many Americans. The dream ends when we see something that does not line up with the American Dream (Waters, 2013, p. 7). The American Dream seems as if it has out lived itself, but for some that is not the case. The reason some people still believe in the American dream is because of the false reality that it provides Americans. There is another reason that Americans believe in the American Dream, and that is due to the motivation that it provides to surpass the social class that we were born into. • 44. Frank Jackson and Physicalism Essay Frank Jackson and Physicalism Frank Jackson begins his article by writing about what he feels to be a fatal flaw in physicalism. He writes a story about a girl named Mary who is raised in a black and white room. In this room Mary was taught everything there is to know about the physical world. The only catch is she learned only from media, which was black and white, so she knows nothing of the colors outside this room. After learning everything about the physical world, she is then given the chance to see color. She will then learn what color is in the world. For this reason Jackson believes physicalism to be false. Jackson contends that if physicalism were true, Mary would know what a color looks like before she would ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem with this for physicalism is that fact Mary would realize how mistaken her knowledge of other s conceptions has been. Even though Mary would have known all of the neurological processes in a person s mind, she would not have known the person s actual experience involved in the process. There would also be facts she did not know about objects, but she would know all physical facts about them. For this reason it is not any experience the object may have, but a fact about the object itself. In the article the main point seems to be the fact that, for example, Mary would see red for the first time she would be learning something. However, physicalism is not threatened merely by the fact Mary learns something. The factor disproving physicalism is the fact Mary learns something new about the object that is red. For example she can see a tomato is now read. Her teachings showed her all physical attributes to the tomato and she would know everything about it. The problem is that she had no idea what red was until she saw red, therefore she did not know everything physical about the tomato. If physicalism were true, Mary would have known exactly what the red tomato looked like before she saw it, including the redness it displayed. After reading the Jackson article I have concluded that I agree with the points being made against physicalism. The example that I believe disproves physicalism is trying to ... • 45. The Effects Of Homeschooling On Children And Public Schools Introduction: Homeschooling is becoming much more common now than it was years ago. Parents are now preferring to homeschool their children over public school due to many reasons such as religion, safety, academic quality travel, family togetherness, separation of government and school, mastery over grades, expenses, and focusing on learning plans made for the student. Public schools are institutions, which are funded by tax revenues from the government. Schools have boundaries to then figure out which students will attend a certain schoolto avoid overcrowding. The schools curriculum is drawn up by the state and they follow a standardized testing result and other measurements, which gives the state information of how the school is performing. According to Isabel Shaw, there are an abundance of pros and cons of deicing to homeschool your children. Some key points from this article were: Homeschooling Pros The advantages of homeschooling your children are that as a parent you get to decide what your child learns and at what age depending on their ability and level of interested and as a student you get to choose how long you want to learn about a topic and when you want to.
