The Pros And Cons Of Carlsbad Desalination
Throughout the years, California has had many droughts, leaving the citizens without fresh water.
The current drought is just as devastating, and the state of California is in desperate need for
drinking water. The company Poseidon Water has come up with a desalination plant, and the
project is called the Carlsbad Desalination Project, which uses Pacific ocean water and filters the
water to make what was once ocean water fresh, drinking water. I have made a decision. I believe
the state of Californiashould dismiss the Carlsbad Desalination Project because there are too many
risks. To start off, the plant is not very trustworthy. Secondly, the desalination plant can harm
different forms of marine life. Finally, the discharge water creates a hazard.... Show more content on

To start, in 2016, Carlsbad failed to deliver 20 percent of the promised water to San Diego, and
didn t produce any fresh water for 46 days. This translates to the citizens not getting fresh water
when the state needs it the most. Next, the plant has racked up more than a dozen water
pollution violations! This implies the plant is giving the people of California polluted water,
while their website claims; We make clean, safe water from a drought proof source the ocean.
Lastly, so far in 2017, Carlsbad has only delivered 70% of the promised water to San Diego. This
shows Carlsbad is failing to fulfill the promises that were made to San Diego, California.
Secondly, the desalination plant harms marine life. Even though the plant can stop bigger fish, it
can not keep out tiny microorganisms and fish eggs. These organisms keep other fish alive, and
they make up the ocean. Next, every organism that enters the plant will be killed. This implies that
Carlsbad only focuses on creating fresh water and doesn t consider wild life. Conner Everts, an
environmentalist, states, Desalination should be the last choice to fix drought, there are a lot of

Economic History of St. Louis

History of St. Louis
St. Louis was acquired from France by the United States under President Thomas Jefferson in
1803, as part of the Louisiana Purchase. It was founded by the French in 1764 when Auguste
Chouteau established a fur trading post and Pierre LaclГЁde Liguest, a New Orleans merchant,
founded a town at the present site. They named it after King Louis XV of France and his patron
saint, Louis IX. From 1770 to 1803, St. Louis was a Spanish possession, but it was ceded back to
France in 1803 in accordance with the Treaty of San Ildefonso (1800), only to be acquired by the
U.S. as part of the Louisiana Purchase later that year. The town was incorporated in 1809. From

family began in St. Louis. The Oetting or as it was called the Oettingen family began one of the

The St. Louis World s Fair (1904), which was held in Forest Park, captured global attention as it
displayed various technological developments. The fair celebrated the centennial of the Louisiana
Purchase and transformed Forest Park into a veritable fairyland of white palaces, lagoons, and
landscaping, attracting 20,000,000 visitors to the City. The fair focused worldwide attention on St.

continued until World War I. Throughout this time, St. Louis industry enjoyed a steady substantial
growth. The City became the world s largest producer of beer, shoes, stoves, wagons, and many

Mistakes In Medical Field Essay
Jerald A. Eckman Making mistakes is what it means to be human. It is the way in which we
deal with this adversity that determines whether we will regress or prosper. I think of the
mistakes I have made in my life as opportunities to grow as a man and a young physician an
individual with the ability and desire to help others in need, especially during times in their life
when they may feel as though many of their decisions have been mistakes. When my medical
education began, I immediately knew this was a passion unlike any other I had ever had.
Unfortunately, my exuberance for becoming a physician was not initially met with academic
achievement. At the end of my first semester, I knew that I could either let the mistakes I have
made defeat me, or I could use them to my advantage. I often reflect on my initial struggles as a
medical student as being one of the most difficult, and yet, ironically rewarding experiences of my
adult life. To this day, I recall the uncertainty I faced, and the... Show more content on

Assisted Suicide And The United States
In today s society it is taught that life is a precious gift and to cherish every second that is
allowed, but what if it is full of endless pain and misery? Starting hundreds of years ago in Ancient
Greece up until modern times with Doctor Kevorkian, physician assisted suicide, and euthanasia
are all highly debated topics that cause both legal and moral dilemmas, but provide patients with
benefits such as financial and pain relief. Assisted suicide should be legalized in the United States
to prevent pain and suffering for the patients and their families. Cultures around the world have
been using assisted suicide to provide an easy and painless deathfor hundreds of years. Euthanasia, a
term created by Suetonius, is two greek words Eu... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were big buildings that were equipped with gas chambers, crematoriums, mortuaries, and
rooms to dissect and remove all valuables that were missed in earlier collection. Historians
speculate this is what started the endemic of assisted suicide in modern times. Hitler started
what was know as the Euthanasia Program in which the term was changed from Good Death to
mass murder of the Jewish people, Gypsies and the handicapped people of Germany and
ultimately started the Holocaust. Hitler wanted to kill off the people that he did not think were
worthy of life. Doctor Jack Kevorkian was the subject of the most recent assisted suicide
debates. Dr. Death, as he was later called, was a pathologist who was convicted of murder for
helping his patients in the act of physician assisted suicide. He was always interested in death and
dying and wanted to help his patients go peacefully instead of suffering. He had, what he called, a
suicide machine set up in an old van and would drive around, at people s requests, to assist them in
killing themselves. Kevorkian was tried multiple times for murder, but pleaded not guilty until
1999, when the court showed a video of him providing Thomas Youk with lethal doses of drugs.
Although most people think there is only one type of euthanasia there are actually multiple such as
Terminal Sedation, in which drugs are

American in the 1980 s Essay
The 1980 s is one of the most interesting decades that was experienced in the United States. Dealing
with the stock market, the coming up of new inventions, all the way to the types of music people
listened to. During the 1980s, the only thing that made Americans be Americans was because of the
things they were provided with. Many Americans had fun throughout the 1980s with materialistic,
glamorous, and technological life styles; therefore there were different economical problems that
Americans faced.
During the 1980 s, many Americans were incredibly materialistic; they were only concerned with
the things in life, not with life as it was. In the musical world, Madonna was becoming popular.

There were many styles that people were able to work with. First off, one of the most common
styles was the retro style. Retro was, in a way, inspired by disco. Americans would often wear
flares, which were types of jeans where the legs got bigger and flared out towards the bottom of
the foot (CITATION, #). This proves that retro was just one of the major fashion statements in
the 1980s. Another style that Americans tried out was the Glamour style. This fashion included
top of the line designers like CoCo Chanel, Versace, and Oscar de la Renta. These designers
made a significant impact on the glamorous lifestyle. Glamorous was over the top, but in a
fashionable or unique way that people like to dress (CITATION, #). People would wear skirts
with a huge puffball at the bottom of it, or switch it up to a nice tight fitting pencil skirt. The
economy was a huge factor. Obviously people wanted the best of the best, but the economy was not
doing that well (CITATION, #). There were some bad things about the agriculture. Since the United
States is just coming out of a recession, they were working on rebuilding businesses in the city so
they could expand their business and try to earn back some of the money they lost. This proves
that at this point in the 80s, life was not so glamorous because people had to worry about earning
back the assets that they lost along with businesses. The farm economy was

Character Analysis Of Brat Sagdiyev
Borat Sagdiyev is one of the popular people in Kazakhstan maybe because he is a reporter or he
really does his job well, and another thing is that Borat may have already married a lot of times
which I think the number wasn t given in the movie. And all of the happenings in the movie have a
reason, like if Borat wasn t watching Baywatch he wouldn t have seen Pamela Anderson, and if his
wife didn t die I think he wouldn t waste his time or he wouldn t be motivated to go to California,
and if he didn t bring Luenell to the dinner; they wouldn t get a close bond with each other.
Borat Sagdiyev; the protagonist of the film, a very funny character in the movie, a journalist of
Kazakhstan. In this movie he discriminates Jews and also women or he is a sexist. But it shows
that it is a normal thing to do in his Kazakhstan, but as his journey goes on in America to find
Pam Anderson he learns and adjusts to the culture of Americans. And he is also a persistent
person which showed his determination to see Pam and also try to kidnap her just for him to

On a daily basis we eat a variety of foods cooked in many fashions. For our meat dishes, we

are stir fry dishes that contain meat, vegetables, and rice. In addition our Chinese culture has
several different soups as well. We are creative with our meals based on the vegetables, meats,
and rice that we produce ourselves. Occasionally we will venture out to the local markets to
purchase other types of food for a little more variety, when we have the extra money or additional

Writing Challenges In Overcoming A Fear Of Writing
You want a question that brings the reader inside! You want a question to excite the readers, and
pull them inwards, so they can connect to the story when you re writing! When you are writing,
you must pull the reader in! They must know what s next!
However big or small, everyone has experienced challenges in life. A long time ago, a friend of
mine once told me that to overcome a challenge; you need to embrace the problem instead of
rejecting it. Now I realize what she was trying to say. When you have a problem, don t run away
from it, because then you will never learn how to rise above it. This is especially true in
overcoming a fear of writing.
Overcoming a fear of writing is hard if it starts in kindergarten. I had the most beautiful
handwriting in class. I had received many complements from my teachers for the writing
workbook assignments. But I really never liked to write. I did not like writing at all! I had tried
by best to be happy but it did not work well. When I wrote, I thought moodily, this is boring.
When I wrote, I felt angry because I couldn t spell all the words right. I did not know what to say
or write down, and this caused me more frustration. After writing, my hands would feel tired. There
was no happiness in writing for me, so decided to just give up.
Whenever I was forced to write for my portfolios by hand, I would always complain, trying to
wiggle myself out of it. I would do preposterous things: I would whine, be very angry, frustrated,

Authority In Unmistaken Child
Throughout the film, Unmistaken Child, there are many different people that are portrayed as
having authority. The main authority that is shown in this film comes from the rinpoches, but
Tenzin Zopa and the Dalai Lama also have authority throughout the film. These authoritative
characters are involved with the journey of finding and establishing the reincarnation of Geshe la
Rinpoche, and the rinpoches and Tenzin Zopa show different types of authority throughout the film.
The main authority in this film, Unmistaken Child, are the rinpoches who are referred to as the
precious ones and they have great social powerover the people. The rinpoches show traditional and
some legal authority when dealing with the process of finding the reincarnation of Geshe la. In
Kessler s chapter, Organizing the Sacred, he describes what traditional and legal rational authority
means; traditional authority is more informal and legal rational authority is formal (Kessler, 260).
These different types of authority are shown when the rinpoches are telling Tenzin Zopa what steps

would formally announce Tenzin Phuntsok as the reincarnation of Geshe la Rinpoche. Now there

Why Do Kids Do Competitive Sports

One reason why I believe that kids should do competitive sports is that competitive sports are
healthy. Even though a big part of your health is depended on your diet and what you eat, I still
think that exercise is a huge part in a kids health because there are many benefits that you can
learn, practice and get while playing a sport. New research published Monday in the journal

walking to school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that not letting your kid do sports is wrong because it is normal and alright for a kid to
get hurt while playing because it can help them learn from it. Getting injured is bad for kids but
that kids should do competitive sports because kids can gain more self esteem, learn to work better
with others, and be more healthy. Self esteem cannot be handed to kids; they have to earn it.
Competition is one way kids earn self esteem. When you develop a talent and work hard for a
result, it feels great. When you fail and learn that can bounce back, you feel more confident in
yourself because you understand that you have resilience. Team sports teach kids how to work well
with their teammates. It also brings out the natural leader in them. Later in life when they are
working in the real world, the skills that they developed in working together comes into play. A big
part of being successful in life and work is being collaborative and working well with others.
Researchers believe playing high school sports, which usually involve regular practices and
competitions, reduces a child s chances of having a weight problem because of the strenuous and
consistent workouts. Therefore, study authors conclude, increasing a child s opportunity to play
sports, even if they are not gifted athletes, should be a priority, especially for teens and children
entering middle school or high

this was during the Tadeas era and things changed to adapt to the contemporary times. In
contemporary times, the institution is set in Greece but replicated in a different location with the

considered as a prophet because he claimed that the goddess bequeaths him the ability to detect

Similarities Between Jekyll And Dr Moreau
Mad scientists are a popular trope in Western culture. These mad men of science are usually
portrayed as crazed and cruel men who would stop at nothing to get what they want, to the point
where they will hurt other living beings in order to get what they want. The mad scientist archetype
existed back when the first scientists began, when ancient peoples first started to employ the use of
the scientific method. The trope roared into popularity in the Victorian era, where many books
such as Frankenstein, Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde, and The Island of Doctor Moreau were
published. These books had shaped the public s perception of both scientific progress and
scientists in general. In the books I have studied, both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and... Show more

While The Island of Doctor Moreau was a book that harshly criticized vivisections, Jekyll and
Hyde was more of a criticism to scientist at the time where Darwinism was first discovered and
popularized. Jekyll and Hyde focused on the personal ruin of one prideful and ambitious
scientist while The Island of Doctor Moreau had a scientist who had ruined the lives of many
animals and a few men. Furthermore, both books had the similar themes of man s inner monster
and people s connection to evolution. In Jekyll and Hyde, this inner monster was Hyde and in
The Island of Doctor Moreau, this monster was the beast men. This mean that both books held
the common belief that men always carried some sort of primal being inside of them, and that all
men, even civilized scientists, can revert back to that animal state. The books also held the
common portrayal of the arrogant mad scientist, where the archetypal mad man s hubris led to
his own downfall and death. In Jekyll and Hyde, Jekyll s creation of the blood red potion had
literally turned him into a cowardly monster, a monster that drove him to suicide. In The Island of
Doctor Moreau, the mad doctor creates a race of beast men that turn against their creator and
murder him. Finally, both books become timeless in their message towards people and scientists.
The message both books give out is that science without ethics becomes more akin to dark
wizardry and evil

When World War I was initially called The Great War by the people of those times, great did not
mean good. Great was the word used to show the magnitude of the war. The war was massive. It
was gigantic in terms of the impact it had on literally the entire world. Only later in time would the
event become known as World War I
.
Tensions between countries had been building across Europe. Many people thought war was
inevitable. There was propaganda all over European countries that helped to instigate the rise of
tensions. Some nations were just looking for a reason to attack other countries. People were
happy when the war first began. It was predicted to be a quick war. Things did not go according to
plan as the war lasted five years. When peace was finally reached in November of 1918, the war
had gone on a lot longer than originally anticipated.
There are many reasons why it was so absorbing and could be classified as a total war . Countries
and nations all across the world would become involved before it end. There were countries fighting
from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. Thirty five nations in all would send troops to
fight. No other war before this time had involved this many different continents.
Another reason why it was total war was that millions of men and women died fighting for their
country. More lives were lost than all of the previous wars combined. Estimates show that around 10

Roman Civilization
It is undeniable that the Roman civilization made a tremendous impact in the modern world. From
education to politics, Rome has made an important mark in the world by enabling its citizens to
share their culture and knowledge to all their dominion. What makes the Roman civilization unique
is not the preservation of their own culture but the embrace of the cultures of their colonies.
Rome started from a group of villagers living along the Tiber River in Italy. For more than 200
years Rome was under the rule of Kings. Then Rome became a Republic when people began
holding elections to choose their representatives in the Senate. The Senate is the most powerful
body of government in Rome.
The Roman civilization was primarily shaped by religion and politics. When Romans interact with
other people, they influence them through worship and beliefs. A family s religious practice stayed
the same, however, the state religion was significantly changed. When Greek Olympus was
introduced to Italy, the Romans adopted their ideas and stories about the gods, where they elaborate
more and became conspicuous when they worship. However, these changes did not improve their
religion. The Roman religion, compelling the ideas of other people, have become an extensive and
complex form of paganism. The Paganism and supremacy was successfully eradicated. In 313 BC,
Constantine made Christianity legal. Moreover, Theodosius made Christianity the official religion
of the Empire, supporting the

America s Role In The Syrian Independence Movement
Syria is a Middle Eastern country bordering the Mediterranean sea, in between Lebanon and
Turkey. The population of about 17,000,000 consists of all different religions and languages.
Most of the population speaks Arabic. Armenian and Kurdish are also often spoken as well.
Syrian government has the influence of Islamic laws. The country s capital is Damascus. In 1918,
British forces sent leader Emir Feisal and Arab troops to capture the capital of Syria, Damascus. The
resulted in the end of the Ottoman empireruling. The Ottoman empire was in control of Syria for
four hundred years before Arabs took over. The Treaty of Versailles played a role in the Syrian
independence movement. Emir Feisal attended the conference. He supported the idea of Arabs self
ruling Syria. This idea was in play until the 1920s, where the San Remo conference took place. San

World War I was a time of revolution for the Syrians. They took this time to finally fight against
the Turkish rulers. On May 6th 1916, Syrian leaders were executed on the spot due to
disagreement of the Ottoman authority. Today, this event is celebrated in Syria and Lebanon as
Martyrs Day. In the early 1900s, British troops were sent into Damascus, Syria to ally with the
Syrian army to defeat four hundred years of Ottoman rulers. As an independent country, they were
under the power of King Faisal I. Britain and France were on different terms within the idea of
the Middle East. The two countries split up the Middle Eastern countries. As a result, Syria was
placed under French mandate. A mandate is the allowance of larger, more developed countries to
control smaller, less advanced countries until they are able to support themselves. This mandate

Transcendent Themes In Hamlet
Hamlet
Transcendent Themes in a Disinterested Age
Modernized versions of classic performances often run into the issue of being simply too long for
a modern audience to sit through, with the dangers of audiences simply being too bored in an age
where the average movie is about 110 minutes. By making decisions that appeal to the visual side
of Hamlet as opposed to altering the auditory work in any way Kenneth Branagh succeeds in
maintaining both artistic authenticity and audience in a way that has not been replicated in modern
times. Hamlet, released in 1996 starring and directed by Kenneth Branagh follows William
Shakespeare s tragedy precisely and successfully overcomes the risks by make the film more
digestible for a modern audience are with its imagery, themes, and line delivery, this success is
showcased at it s most masterful upon looking at the soliloquies that Hamlet delivers with his act 4
scene 4 soliloquy being the pinnacle of mixing the source material and modern appeal.
Hamlet, as a stage play first performed in 1609 was limited by the technology of its day in terms
of the visuals it could provide its audience, however Kenneth Branagh s version had no such
limitations and took full advantage of the progressed technology in order to engross the audience.

considers delicate and tender prince . (1,2) leading an army, realizes that he has been procrastinating

Top 40 Richest Families in Pakistan
F ollowing is the list of the top 40 richest families in Pakistan at the moment. I received it through
a friend and have no idea about how authentic it is. It is an interesting read and does seem like
that if not 100%, then it must 80% correct. However, it has missed some families which are sure
to make the top 10, of the top of my head I can think of two: Giga (Pardesi family) and the family
that owns ARY. Both of them gave the government of Pakistan
huge interest free loans when it was
on the brink of default after the sanctions imposed due to the nuclear tests almost crippled Pakistan.
Anyway, check it out if you have time, as it is quite a long post.

Social Media Integration Theory Of Isra Garcia (2010)
Social Media Integration Theory of Isra Garcia (2010)
According to Isra Garcia (2010), The exposure, feedback, engagement , connection and sharing that
Social Media platforms provides, creates a major changes for the traditional communication
understanding. The flow of communication is no longer considered as a one way street in which
audience received messages through the I communicate you receive mantra. Rather, Social Media
integration is seen as an interactive process in which there is more than two people communicating
to each other at the same time that enables same level information exchange among the users.
Social bookmarking sites such as blogs or web pages place content into an active eco system that
allows social media interaction such as Twitter or Facebook. This content is then partaked and
spread virally through the interaction made on the social media eco system. This refers to people
being connected to people through common groups, associations, and interests. Since this becomes
the six degrees of separation this interaction causes the viral effect. This social media platform
allows the interaction and the ability for the model to flow and become organic. Then, the social
networking platforms enable the connection with the public through the engagement approach

Summary Of Appiah s Death Of The Duel
In the first half of Death of the Duel, Appiah begins by providing the details of a duel between
two prominent British government officials, using the specific example as a jumping point to
discuss the general idea of dueling. The form of honor being represented in this case is that of
reputation and the maintenance of regard from the general public. This concept of honor as a
form of social standing is interesting because it subverts Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs and many
other psychological theories that try to map out human instinct which places safety and security in
higher regard than it does esteem or ego. In the case of the duel, honor is considered the highest
human need, even above life itself if one considers the death toll, although that mainly applies to
the aristocratic class, who had most of their basic needs taken care of already. In the case of
dueling, the society at the time seemed to conflate the ideas of respect and honor, assuming that the
characteristic of honorability automatically entitled one to respect from peers and lower classes.
Appiah, however, distinguishes the two by noting that honor is the individual... Show more content

While Appiah believes there is only pride in doing things out of the ordinary, I believe that it also
takes courage and honor to follow honor codes in everyday circumstances. Being honorable is
difficult sin a world where honorable behavior, contrary to Appiah s belief, is not actually standard
behavior. For example, a student witnesses two bullies harassing another student and steps in to
stop them. While this might be fairly standard honorable behavior, that does not mean the student
shouldn t feel proud of their actions and the courage they took. The pride doesn t detract from the
previously honorable actions. In his argument, Appiah seems to conflate the idea of pride personal
satisfaction with vanity and the need to boost reputation, which I hold to be two separate

Cyrus The Great Thesis
Cyrus II otherwise known as Cyrus the Great was the first Achaemenid emperor. Cyrus II was
born around 580 B.C. in Anshan, Iran (Persia) in which Cyrus was supposed to have been said
to grow up there. Cyrus is supposedly the grandson of the Median king Astyages. When Cyrus
was born, Astyages had a dream that one day Cyrus would overthrow him as the ruler. As a result
of this dream, he ordered for baby Cyrus to be left in the mountains to die, but he was found by
some herders who then raised him as their own. After 10 years, Astyages heard that the boy that he
had sent to the mountains had not been killed after all, but had lived, so he allowed him to return to
his birth parents. When Cyrus turned twenty one, he finally got to take over the throne and become
the emperor of Anshan. At the time when he had... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rube Goldberg Research Paper
Our challenge was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that could ring a service bell. Additionally,
we needed to document and turn in a team and individual folder. Once we completed the evaluation
of Rube Goldberg s life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying
to pull together as a team and create a successful project.
Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth,
1883 in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper middle class family of Jewish
heritage, and he had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. At the age of four, Goldberg

participated in the Rube Goldberg MachineRube Goldberg machine contest that brings out the
spirit of Goldberg and his unique cartoons (Raga, 2016). Rube Goldberg noted that the machines
were symbols of, man s capacity for exiting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results (O
Connor, 2015, A Simple Task, para. 11). Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real
working machines, and millions of people became inspired. An excellent example of what
Goldberg s designs are and how they can operate is his famous self operating napkin cartoon. It

Propaganda Techniques In Anthem
The whole point of having rules is to have control over others. If one chooses to break the rules,
they are then most likely to be punished. In Anthem, the City has numerous rules which were
made to ensure nobody would act out. If one individual chose to act out, others may follow
resulting in a rebellion. This is what the City tries to avoid by using propaganda techniques to
keep everyone in control. Although multiple techniques are used, some that stand out are the name
calling, card stacking, and they also limit the access to what others know. Name calling is one of
the techniques which stood out in the book because no personal pronouns were allowed. Everyone

the government made all of the decisions for everyone, making sure that in some way they

Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation
Xenotransplantation is defined as The use of live nonhuman animal cells, tissues and organs in
human patients. (Fix, Megan. Fact Sheet on Xenotransplantation). There are pros and cons to
Xenotransplantation. Xenoplantation aims to increase organ availability, it has the potential to
open up new areas of research, and could end transplant list. The cons include high rejection rate,
moral/ethical issues, and transfer of diseases from animals to humans. After learning about the pros
and cons of Xenoplantation I believe that I am against it due to the ethical issues I have learned.
The pros of Xenoplantation include that xenotransplantation aims to increase organ availability, it
has the potential to open up new areas of research, and could end transplant list. The first pro
states that xenotransplantation aims to increase organ availability. In the Harvard University
article I read called Xenotransplantation: Can pigs save human lives? states that Xenoplantation
can increase organ availability by using pig organs as donors. Pigs organs are very similar to
humans and they would be readily available if needed. Second pro would be that is could open up
new areas of research. This is could definitely be beneficial because this would open new research
about treating illnesses meaning that different animals have individual ways of fighting infections
and through xenoplantation humans might be able to cure deadly diseases. Third pro is it could
end the transplant list. If xenoplantation has a positive outcome when transferring pig organs to
humans the availability of pig organs is much higher than human organs. This would help decrease
the organ transplant list and cut waiting time for patients. Those are the pros and here are the cons.
The cons of xenoplantation are high rejection rate, moral/ethical issues, and transfer of diseases
from animals to humans. High rejection rate is a big con because we already have issues with
human to human organs getting rejected. The human body rejects the organ from a recipient s
because of a protein called Human leukocyte antigen. Second Con would be the ethical issues that
come with xenotransplantation. The first moral issue would be with the animals, is it right to

Before having his last supper and being crucified, Jesus Christ walked up a mountain to pray
with three of his disciples, Peter, John and James. As the three slept, Christ was visited by the
spirits of Moses and Elijah who told him that he would have to sacrifice himself in Jerusalem.
Once the disciples awoke, they were greeted by Christ who was covered in holy light as a voice in
large clouds told them: This is my son, whom I have chosen; listen to him. As they all went down
the mountain, Christ told his disciples that what had happened needed to be a secret until he would

In Raphael s scene, Christ floats in the air with his arms stretched out and his legs bent with his

of his stance as his light and movements affect the world around him, the mosaic uses its
characterization to focus on the role of Christ as his stance is meant to inspire and be respected
by the church and its visitors. Similarly, Elijah and Moses in Raphael s transfiguration are
floating as well, gliding their way to and around Christ as they carry their wavering robes and
books, representing them to the audience as wise scholars and teachers who stare valiantly at the
holy light of Christ. At the same time, in the mosaic, these same characters simply stand in the
corners of the scene standing as still as the mosaic s Christ and their arms pointing up and towards
him, showing their command and guidance over him and the church. Surprisingly, Peter, John and
James share similar characterizations between the two art pieces. In both Raphael s and the mosaic

looking above in awe and bewilderment. While the other two disciples share different

Radio Network Performance For Indoor Cellular Systems
Radio Network Performance for Indoor Cellular Systems Keshav Kumar Bollu (M547X932)
Abstract Indoor wireless systems with cellular technology provides good coverage and high
capacity with great potential if a large number of small radio ports are connected to a centralized
radio network controller. Various radio network solutions are investigated based on this approach.
Architecture of a base station sub system (BSS) is presented and the proposed BSS is based on a
distributed architecture. The cost economical solution for indoor wireless deployment is presented
that meets indoor capacity need and provides good indoor coverage. Antenna hopping is done,
which transmits information continuously on different antennas. The Radio Resource... Show more

High traffic capacity is achieved with smaller cells and microcell systems which cover
downtown hotspot areas. Microcells are characterized by lower antenna heights and lower
power levels when compared with ordinary macrocells and hence offer high outdoor traffic
capacity but low indoor coverage. Thus an indoor system should supply better coverage and
high capacity simultaneously. These needs are fulfilled by using a large number of small radio
ports into the cellular system. Several solutions are available to increase the system capacity:
frequency reuse by reducing the cell size, dynamic resource allocation, slow frequency hopping,
hierarchical cells etc. The transmission link performance is a key property of a wireless
communication system as it determines the coverage of the system. An improvement of the
transmission link performance provides a cost effective way of increasing capacity by allowing
reuse of tighter channel. A method of improving the transmission link performance of a wireless
communication system is discussed here. These needs are satisfied by arranging a huge number
of small radio ports to the existing cellular system. Spot coverage is provided for those areas
which are hard or impossible to cover with the outdoor cells. The radio ports transmit with very
low power for a small coverage area and keeping the generated interference low. The reuse of traffic
channels between the small areas covered by the radio ports can possibly be very frequent

Tay Sachs Disease Essay
Tay Sachs is an incurable genetic disease that affects the central nervous system. It is a rare
disorder that occurs chiefly in infants and children, especially those of the Jewish heritage. It is
characterized by a red spot in the retina, paralysis, gradual blindness, and loss of muscle movement.
Tay Sachs can only be inherited, which means it is passed from parents to child only. The
process begins in the fetus, very early in pregnancy. However, the disease does not become
physically apparent until the child is several months old. Tay Sachs is caused by the absence of a
vital enzyme, called the Hex A gene, which is in chromosome 15. This gene plays an important role
in the nervous system. It breaks down the fatty substance called ... Show more content on

Parents who suspect they might be at risk are strongly encouraged to be tested before pregnancy.
Pregnant mothers can have their unborn babies tested for Hex A deficit that causes Tay Sachs. If
these tests do not detect the Hex A gene, the baby has the Tay Sachs mutation. If the tests do
detect the Hex A gene, then the baby is perfectly healthy. Between the 10th and 12th weeks of
pregnancy, an expectant mother can get a chorionic villus sampling or CVS. In this procedure, a
small sample of the placenta is drawn into a needle or small tube for analysis. Between 15 18
weeks of a pregnancy, an expecting mother could have an amniocentesis to test for the Hex A
mutation. This test involves a needle that is inserted into the mother s belly to draw a sample of
amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus. Children are usually tested for Tay Sachs after having
hearing, sight, and movement problems. The disease can be identified by a doctor through blood
tests and screening.
Children affected by Tay Sachs disease are born seemingly normal and develop like any other
child in the first three to six months of life. Throughout the next month, and sometimes even
years, the baby will progressively lose the ability to see, hear, and move. The child will develop a
cherry colored red spot in the back of the eye and they lose or never even gain important motor and
mental skills. The child will stop smiling, crawling, sitting, turning over, and reaching for things. By

muscles are called: semimembranosus and semitendinosus (medially) and biceps femoris short and
long heads (laterally). Hamstrings strains can occur for multiple reasons.
There are three grades of hamstring strains; Grade 1 Pull, Grade 2 Partial tear, Grade 3 Avulsion.
The three grades are all different and show different signs and pain levels.
If you are experiencing a grade 1 hamstring strain you are likely to feel tightness at the back of your
thigh. You will be able to feel discomfort in your Hamstring and although you will be able to walk
you won t be able to run at full speed. Mild swelling and spasms will most likely occur. Grade 1
strains take 1 3 weeks to heal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sudden pangs of pain will be present during activity. Same as the grade 1 strain there will be
swelling and the hamstring will be sore to touch. Bending your knee against resistance will be
painful. Grade 2 strains take 4 8 weeks to heal.
The worst strain to the hamstring is a grade 3 strain. Grade 3 strains involve a tear to all or half of
the hamstring muscle. Walking will cause severe pain and you will either need assistance from
someone or crutches. Swelling will happen immediately and bruising will appear within 24 hours.
Grade 3 strains take 3 6 months to heal.
Occurrence and Prevention
The factors that contribute to a strained Hamstring can be put into two different categories, primary
and secondary. Primary factors are the bad timing of intermuscular coordination and the strength of
the hamstring during the change between the late recovery of the leg and the approach in the
swinging motion of sprinting.
Secondary factors include things such as:
Poor running style
Over striding or bad control of pelvic movement can make the hamstrings vulnerable to injury

Culture Of The Philippines Essay
THE HISTORY AND STABILITY OF THE PHILIPPINES A nation s culture resides in the
hearts and in the soul of its people (Ghandi, Mahatma 2017). For about the first time this lush
land was discovered, the Filipinos have always been proud of their culture, their religion,
customs and beliefs. A part of their culture is transmitted through their various languages,
material objects, rituals, institution, and art from one generation to the next. They, like any
other country had its ups and downs with things they re not so proud of like their stability
financially and with their government. But despite that, the Philippines have more to offer than
just their land and what the land has to offer other countries for they literally are still fighting
their own wars within themselves and the country is still going through turmoil then and now.
In 1521, a Portuguese explorer named Ferdinand Magellan was discovering lands for Spain and
came across a body of islands which stretched across the seas, which became known as the
Philippines; officially known as the Republic of the Philippines (Lambert, Tim). Since Magellan
was working in Spain at that time, He was able to claim the island for Spain. But a few months
later, Magellan was killed during a tribal warfare against the Lapu Lapu s Army on the Mactan
Island. Because of that, the Spaniard did not gain a base in the Philippines until Miguel Lopez de
Legazpi led an expedition and built a fort in Cebu which later opened up the Spaniards to

Should Companies Have The Right To Monitor Employees E mails And Phone Conversations?
Employees watch out when using communication, whether e mail or phone, at work, you never
know who may be listening. Should companies have the right to monitor employees e mails and
phone conversation? Most studies believe that they, employers, do have the right to monitor the e
mail and phone conversations of their employees, as long as they are notified of the fact. There is a
tremendous amount of literature on this issue but it all seems to lean towards the right of the
employers.
The most notable law enacted law that allows employee monitoring was in 1986. It was the 1986
Electronic Communications Privacy Act (it.ojp.gov). Although the... Show more content on

They believe that just because someone becomes your employee doesn t mean they give up all
their privacy rights. In one instance, it was argued that if an employee wrote a note to a friend
with a work pencil and paper would this make it applicable to monitoring by the employer, as it
was written with their pencil and paper. This is what employers are arguing when they state that
they an employee is using their electronics, so therefore monitoring is applicable. Still others
would argue that privacy in the workplace is a moral matter (Michael J. Meyer, SCU Professor).
they are entitled to respect, which requires attention to their privacy. If a boss were to monitor
every conversation or move, most of us would think of such an environment as more like a prison
then a humane workplace.
But in the case of phone calls or e mails some would believe that (William Parent, Privacy and
Morality and the Law ) there should be put in place criteria for determining which invasion of
privacy is justifiable. William Parent proposes that the employer should apply six questions to
review whether their act of monitoring is allowable or not and that this would offer guidance. But
most would agree that while it is legal for employers to monitor, it does not make it right.
Realistically, most workers are at work sometimes more than forty hours per week. So if they take
the time to make a personal phone call during that

Compare And Contrast Pzarro And Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro managed to bring down the administration and basic structure
of the Aztec Empire and Inca Empire with only a few hundred men by utilizing various advantages
that they possessed. Both men had far superior weaponry than the natives that they fought however
the natives could have countered this with just sheer numbers and utilizing the terrain that they
knew so well. What really allowed these men to dominate their enemies was their strategies and
experience. Both men were also aided by the diseases that they brought with them, devastating the
native population for decades. Hernan Cortes was a Spanish Conquistadorwho dreamed of riches, a
title of nobility, and fame. He planned to obtain these by leading an expedition into the New
World. Spaniard s dreamed that conquering Mexico would give them great wealth and Cortes as
able to do this. He conquered parts of Mexico and caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. Cortes was
so successful because he was a remarkable strategist. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Due to the native s total isolation from the rest of the civilized world, they had been prevented
from developing immunities against many devastating diseases. These diseases were carried
into the country unaware by the conquistadors from Europe and Africa. For example, smallpox
reached Espanola by 1518 and was carried to New Spain in 1520. It then moved through Central
America and entered Peru by 1527. Wherever the disease passed, it left a detrimental death toll in
its wake. There are many accounts of villages that lost half or more of their population, some even
lost as high as 90% of their population. Many more disease continued to slowly decimate the
natives, such as measles typhus, influenza, yellow fever, malaria diphtheria and the bubonic plague.
Within the next 100 year of disease, the native s population became less than 10% what it was in the

Military Turning Points During The Civil War
There were many military and political turning points during the Civil War. In 1863 and 1864,
the outcome of the war was uncertain to many on either side of the playing field. In April of
1863, a new Union commander in the East, Fighting Joe Hooker, invaded central Virginia.
Outnumbered two to one, Lee fought off Hooker at Chancellorsville. His most outstanding
commander, Stonewall Jackson, was mortally wounded in combat. Soon after, Lee decides to
make another invasion of the North. For the first three days of July, his army battled Union forces
under General George G. Meade at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Gettysburg was the largest battle to
ever occur in North America. Over 165,000 troops battled there. On July 3rd, Major General George

Reality of the game
The game is realistic from the historical and educational points of view. It would be interesting for
young aged persons as it delivers the knowledge recites the events that had occurred throughout the
long battle between disease and science through smooth animation movie and historical hints.
For middle aged persons, it would be kind of boring as it s not that thrilling and have a steady pace

From the game s progression point of view, the game is not realistic, as it keeps continuing

Ethical Differences And Similarities Between Tiger Woods...
Intro to Ethics
Business Ethics are an important part to any organization. If a business doesn t practice good
ethics, they will not be successful because of their image perceived by the public. Ethics is the
branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right
and wrong conduct. What the definition says is it s more of a decision of right vs. wrong, ethical
or unethical. Based on our class discussion, we discussed where we get our morals, or ethics from.
We learned the two sets of people are the most influential are your parents, and your employer.
The reason I don t find this surprising, is that these two groups are the people that teach you the
most in life. Your parents teach you good morals and values, from your religion and your respect
for people. That is instilled in you since the day you are born. Your employers teach you the right

Woods s golf game had struggled in the recent months and Nike stated in their advertisement
Winning Takes Care of Everything. Woods and Nike were attacked by critics for coming out
with this ad, because of Woods s failed marriage and the heat he was taking from that. I don t
like what Nike did here by making that statement on an advertisement. This is saying that what
he has done in his past will be erased if he starts winning in the present and the future. If you don
t know what he did, he was having countless affairs when traveling to golf tournaments around
the world. He made poor decisions and took time off from golf to mentally get things figured
out. What Woods did was wrong and he obviously can t be punished for what he did, but his
morals weren t in the right place. He thought he would never get caught because of who he was. I
do think what Nike did is wrong and they need to know that people are always going to remember
Woods for what he did in his past whether or not he wins golf

Rise and fall of the First Persian Empire The First Persian Empire, also known as the

society, prospered because of leading economic and technological advances, and fell due to a

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Carlsbad Desalination Throughout the years, California has had many droughts, leaving the citizens without fresh water. The current drought is just as devastating, and the state of California is in desperate need for drinking water. The company Poseidon Water has come up with a desalination plant, and the project is called the Carlsbad Desalination Project, which uses Pacific ocean water and filters the water to make what was once ocean water fresh, drinking water. I have made a decision. I believe the state of Californiashould dismiss the Carlsbad Desalination Project because there are too many risks. To start off, the plant is not very trustworthy. Secondly, the desalination plant can harm different forms of marine life. Finally, the discharge water creates a hazard.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, in 2016, Carlsbad failed to deliver 20 percent of the promised water to San Diego, and didn t produce any fresh water for 46 days. This translates to the citizens not getting fresh water when the state needs it the most. Next, the plant has racked up more than a dozen water pollution violations! This implies the plant is giving the people of California polluted water, while their website claims; We make clean, safe water from a drought proof source the ocean. Lastly, so far in 2017, Carlsbad has only delivered 70% of the promised water to San Diego. This shows Carlsbad is failing to fulfill the promises that were made to San Diego, California. Secondly, the desalination plant harms marine life. Even though the plant can stop bigger fish, it can not keep out tiny microorganisms and fish eggs. These organisms keep other fish alive, and they make up the ocean. Next, every organism that enters the plant will be killed. This implies that Carlsbad only focuses on creating fresh water and doesn t consider wild life. Conner Everts, an environmentalist, states, Desalination should be the last choice to fix drought, there are a lot of challenges to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic History of St. Louis Davey Oetting 12/1/06 History of St. Louis St. Louis was acquired from France by the United States under President Thomas Jefferson in 1803, as part of the Louisiana Purchase. It was founded by the French in 1764 when Auguste Chouteau established a fur trading post and Pierre LaclГЁde Liguest, a New Orleans merchant, founded a town at the present site. They named it after King Louis XV of France and his patron saint, Louis IX. From 1770 to 1803, St. Louis was a Spanish possession, but it was ceded back to France in 1803 in accordance with the Treaty of San Ildefonso (1800), only to be acquired by the U.S. as part of the Louisiana Purchase later that year. • 5. Mistakes In Medical Field Essay Jerald A. Eckman Making mistakes is what it means to be human. It is the way in which we deal with this adversity that determines whether we will regress or prosper. I think of the mistakes I have made in my life as opportunities to grow as a man and a young physician an individual with the ability and desire to help others in need, especially during times in their life when they may feel as though many of their decisions have been mistakes. When my medical education began, I immediately knew this was a passion unlike any other I had ever had. Unfortunately, my exuberance for becoming a physician was not initially met with academic achievement. At the end of my first semester, I knew that I could either let the mistakes I have made defeat me, or I could use them to my advantage. I often reflect on my initial struggles as a medical student as being one of the most difficult, and yet, ironically rewarding experiences of my adult life. To this day, I recall the uncertainty I faced, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were big buildings that were equipped with gas chambers, crematoriums, mortuaries, and rooms to dissect and remove all valuables that were missed in earlier collection. Historians speculate this is what started the endemic of assisted suicide in modern times. Hitler started what was know as the Euthanasia Program in which the term was changed from Good Death to mass murder of the Jewish people, Gypsies and the handicapped people of Germany and ultimately started the Holocaust. Hitler wanted to kill off the people that he did not think were worthy of life. Doctor Jack Kevorkian was the subject of the most recent assisted suicide debates. Dr. Death, as he was later called, was a pathologist who was convicted of murder for helping his patients in the act of physician assisted suicide. He was always interested in death and dying and wanted to help his patients go peacefully instead of suffering. He had, what he called, a suicide machine set up in an old van and would drive around, at people s requests, to assist them in killing themselves. Kevorkian was tried multiple times for murder, but pleaded not guilty until 1999, when the court showed a video of him providing Thomas Youk with lethal doses of drugs. This proves that retro was just one of the major fashion statements in the 1980s. Another style that Americans tried out was the Glamour style. This fashion included top of the line designers like CoCo Chanel, Versace, and Oscar de la Renta. These designers made a significant impact on the glamorous lifestyle. And all of the happenings in the movie have a reason, like if Borat wasn t watching Baywatch he wouldn t have seen Pamela Anderson, and if his wife didn t die I think he wouldn t waste his time or he wouldn t be motivated to go to California, and if he didn t bring Luenell to the dinner; they wouldn t get a close bond with each other. • 10. Writing Challenges In Overcoming A Fear Of Writing You want a question that brings the reader inside! You want a question to excite the readers, and pull them inwards, so they can connect to the story when you re writing! When you are writing, you must pull the reader in! They must know what s next! However big or small, everyone has experienced challenges in life. A long time ago, a friend of mine once told me that to overcome a challenge; you need to embrace the problem instead of rejecting it. Now I realize what she was trying to say. When you have a problem, don t run away from it, because then you will never learn how to rise above it. This is especially true in overcoming a fear of writing. Overcoming a fear of writing is hard if it starts in kindergarten. I had the most beautiful handwriting in class. I had received many complements from my teachers for the writing workbook assignments. But I really never liked to write. I did not like writing at all! I had tried by best to be happy but it did not work well. When I wrote, I thought moodily, this is boring. When I wrote, I felt angry because I couldn t spell all the words right. I did not know what to say or write down, and this caused me more frustration. After writing, my hands would feel tired. There was no happiness in writing for me, so decided to just give up. Whenever I was forced to write for my portfolios by hand, I would always complain, trying to wiggle myself out of it. I would do preposterous things: I would whine, be very angry, frustrated, ... These authoritative characters are involved with the journey of finding and establishing the reincarnation of Geshe la Rinpoche, and the rinpoches and Tenzin Zopa show different types of authority throughout the film. The main authority in this film, Unmistaken Child, are the rinpoches who are referred to as the precious ones and they have great social powerover the people. The rinpoches show traditional and some legal authority when dealing with the process of finding the reincarnation of Geshe la. In Kessler s chapter, Organizing the Sacred, he describes what traditional and legal rational authority means; traditional authority is more informal and legal rational authority is formal (Kessler, 260). Getting injured is bad for kids but that kids should do competitive sports because kids can gain more self esteem, learn to work better with others, and be more healthy. Self esteem cannot be handed to kids; they have to earn it. Competition is one way kids earn self esteem. When you develop a talent and work hard for a result, it feels great. When you fail and learn that can bounce back, you feel more confident in yourself because you understand that you have resilience. Team sports teach kids how to work well with their teammates. It also brings out the natural leader in them. Later in life when they are working in the real world, the skills that they developed in working together comes into play. A big part of being successful in life and work is being collaborative and working well with others. Researchers believe playing high school sports, which usually involve regular practices and competitions, reduces a child s chances of having a weight problem because of the strenuous and consistent workouts. In contemporary times, the institution is set in Greece but replicated in a different location with the replicated diamond. In fact, in 1955, there was a leader named Lucius Caelum who was considered as a prophet because he claimed that the goddess bequeaths him the ability to detect excess darkness or light in people. As he convinced people into believing his claim, more people began to join Diamantism and conform to Lucius. Charisma is extremely especially for Lucius because without charisma, how is he able to recruit more members into the religion to maintain its integrity. From there, Lucius began managing and constructing the institution with his view on Diamantism. He provides homes and food for people to stay in the group so they won t be in contact with people in the outside world. One thing that was different compared to the institution during Tadeas s era is that despite there not being any electricity available, the community is livable and is mostly an area to worship the diamond and learn about the religion of Diamantism. In socialization, there was a school specifically for the members of Diamantism to teach them the creation myth, how to please goddess Aura by worshipping the sacred diamond by using the religious education ... • 16. Similarities Between Jekyll And Dr Moreau Mad scientists are a popular trope in Western culture. These mad men of science are usually portrayed as crazed and cruel men who would stop at nothing to get what they want, to the point where they will hurt other living beings in order to get what they want. The mad scientist archetype existed back when the first scientists began, when ancient peoples first started to employ the use of the scientific method. The trope roared into popularity in the Victorian era, where many books such as Frankenstein, Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde, and The Island of Doctor Moreau were published. These books had shaped the public s perception of both scientific progress and scientists in general. In the books I have studied, both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While The Island of Doctor Moreau was a book that harshly criticized vivisections, Jekyll and Hyde was more of a criticism to scientist at the time where Darwinism was first discovered and popularized. Jekyll and Hyde focused on the personal ruin of one prideful and ambitious scientist while The Island of Doctor Moreau had a scientist who had ruined the lives of many animals and a few men. Furthermore, both books had the similar themes of man s inner monster and people s connection to evolution. In Jekyll and Hyde, this inner monster was Hyde and in The Island of Doctor Moreau, this monster was the beast men. This mean that both books held the common belief that men always carried some sort of primal being inside of them, and that all men, even civilized scientists, can revert back to that animal state. The books also held the common portrayal of the arrogant mad scientist, where the archetypal mad man s hubris led to his own downfall and death. In Jekyll and Hyde, Jekyll s creation of the blood red potion had literally turned him into a cowardly monster, a monster that drove him to suicide. In The Island of Doctor Moreau, the mad doctor creates a race of beast men that turn against their creator and murder him. Finally, both books become timeless in their message towards people and scientists. The message both books give out is that science without ethics becomes more akin to dark wizardry and evil ... • 18. The Great War As Total War The Great War as Total War Week 1 Assignment By: John Moore When World War I was initially called The Great War by the people of those times, great did not mean good. Great was the word used to show the magnitude of the war. The war was massive. It was gigantic in terms of the impact it had on literally the entire world. Only later in time would the event become known as World War I . Tensions between countries had been building across Europe. Many people thought war was inevitable. There was propaganda all over European countries that helped to instigate the rise of tensions. Some nations were just looking for a reason to attack other countries. People were happy when the war first began. It was predicted to be a quick war. Things did not go according to plan as the war lasted five years. When peace was finally reached in November of 1918, the war had gone on a lot longer than originally anticipated. There are many reasons why it was so absorbing and could be classified as a total war . Countries and nations all across the world would become involved before it end. There were countries fighting from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. Thirty five nations in all would send troops to fight. No other war before this time had involved this many different continents. Another reason why it was total war was that millions of men and women died fighting for their country. More lives were lost than all of the previous wars combined. Estimates show that around 10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From education to politics, Rome has made an important mark in the world by enabling its citizens to share their culture and knowledge to all their dominion. What makes the Roman civilization unique is not the preservation of their own culture but the embrace of the cultures of their colonies. Rome started from a group of villagers living along the Tiber River in Italy. For more than 200 years Rome was under the rule of Kings. Then Rome became a Republic when people began holding elections to choose their representatives in the Senate. The Senate is the most powerful body of government in Rome. The Roman civilization was primarily shaped by religion and politics. When Romans interact with other people, they influence them through worship and beliefs. A family s religious practice stayed the same, however, the state religion was significantly changed. When Greek Olympus was introduced to Italy, the Romans adopted their ideas and stories about the gods, where they elaborate more and became conspicuous when they worship. However, these changes did not improve their religion. The Roman religion, compelling the ideas of other people, have become an extensive and complex form of paganism. Summary Of Appiah s Death Of The Duel In the first half of Death of the Duel, Appiah begins by providing the details of a duel between two prominent British government officials, using the specific example as a jumping point to discuss the general idea of dueling. The form of honor being represented in this case is that of reputation and the maintenance of regard from the general public. This concept of honor as a form of social standing is interesting because it subverts Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs and many other psychological theories that try to map out human instinct which places safety and security in higher regard than it does esteem or ego. In the case of the duel, honor is considered the highest human need, even above life itself if one considers the death toll, although that mainly applies to the aristocratic class, who had most of their basic needs taken care of already. In the case of dueling, the society at the time seemed to conflate the ideas of respect and honor, assuming that the characteristic of honorability automatically entitled one to respect from peers and lower classes. • 32. Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation Xenotransplantation is defined as The use of live nonhuman animal cells, tissues and organs in human patients. (Fix, Megan. Fact Sheet on Xenotransplantation). There are pros and cons to Xenotransplantation. Xenoplantation aims to increase organ availability, it has the potential to open up new areas of research, and could end transplant list. The cons include high rejection rate, moral/ethical issues, and transfer of diseases from animals to humans. After learning about the pros and cons of Xenoplantation I believe that I am against it due to the ethical issues I have learned. The pros of Xenoplantation include that xenotransplantation aims to increase organ availability, it has the potential to open up new areas of research, and could end transplant list. The first pro states that xenotransplantation aims to increase organ availability. In the Harvard University article I read called Xenotransplantation: Can pigs save human lives? states that Xenoplantation can increase organ availability by using pig organs as donors. Pigs organs are very similar to humans and they would be readily available if needed. Second pro would be that is could open up new areas of research. This is could definitely be beneficial because this would open new research about treating illnesses meaning that different animals have individual ways of fighting infections and through xenoplantation humans might be able to cure deadly diseases. Third pro is it could end the transplant list. If xenoplantation has a positive outcome when transferring pig organs to humans the availability of pig organs is much higher than human organs. This would help decrease the organ transplant list and cut waiting time for patients. Those are the pros and here are the cons. The cons of xenoplantation are high rejection rate, moral/ethical issues, and transfer of diseases from animals to humans. High rejection rate is a big con because we already have issues with human to human organs getting rejected. The human body rejects the organ from a recipient s because of a protein called Human leukocyte antigen. Second Con would be the ethical issues that come with xenotransplantation. • 33. Saint Catherine s Transfiguration Before having his last supper and being crucified, Jesus Christ walked up a mountain to pray with three of his disciples, Peter, John and James. As the three slept, Christ was visited by the spirits of Moses and Elijah who told him that he would have to sacrifice himself in Jerusalem. Once the disciples awoke, they were greeted by Christ who was covered in holy light as a voice in large clouds told them: This is my son, whom I have chosen; listen to him. As they all went down the mountain, Christ told his disciples that what had happened needed to be a secret until he would be resurrected, questioning the disciples loyalty which they did not break. This scene became Christ s transfiguration, translated by the church in the bible after his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Raphael s scene, Christ floats in the air with his arms stretched out and his legs bent with his robes flapping behind and around him while the mosaic portrays Christ and his clothes standing still with his hands showing the symbols of the church. While Raphael emphasises on the power of his stance as his light and movements affect the world around him, the mosaic uses its characterization to focus on the role of Christ as his stance is meant to inspire and be respected by the church and its visitors. Similarly, Elijah and Moses in Raphael s transfiguration are floating as well, gliding their way to and around Christ as they carry their wavering robes and books, representing them to the audience as wise scholars and teachers who stare valiantly at the holy light of Christ. At the same time, in the mosaic, these same characters simply stand in the corners of the scene standing as still as the mosaic s Christ and their arms pointing up and towards him, showing their command and guidance over him and the church. Surprisingly, Peter, John and James share similar characterizations between the two art pieces. In both Raphael s and the mosaic s interpretation, one of the disciples lays below Christ with his head leaning on his arm and looking above in awe and bewilderment. Radio Network Performance For Indoor Cellular Systems Radio Network Performance for Indoor Cellular Systems Keshav Kumar Bollu (M547X932) Abstract Indoor wireless systems with cellular technology provides good coverage and high capacity with great potential if a large number of small radio ports are connected to a centralized radio network controller. Various radio network solutions are investigated based on this approach. Architecture of a base station sub system (BSS) is presented and the proposed BSS is based on a distributed architecture. The cost economical solution for indoor wireless deployment is presented that meets indoor capacity need and provides good indoor coverage. Antenna hopping is done, which transmits information continuously on different antennas. The Radio Resource... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High traffic capacity is achieved with smaller cells and microcell systems which cover downtown hotspot areas. Microcells are characterized by lower antenna heights and lower power levels when compared with ordinary macrocells and hence offer high outdoor traffic capacity but low indoor coverage. Thus an indoor system should supply better coverage and high capacity simultaneously. These needs are fulfilled by using a large number of small radio ports into the cellular system. Several solutions are available to increase the system capacity: frequency reuse by reducing the cell size, dynamic resource allocation, slow frequency hopping, hierarchical cells etc. The transmission link performance is a key property of a wireless communication system as it determines the coverage of the system. An improvement of the transmission link performance provides a cost effective way of increasing capacity by allowing reuse of tighter channel. A method of improving the transmission link performance of a wireless communication system is discussed here. These needs are satisfied by arranging a huge number of small radio ports to the existing cellular system. Spot coverage is provided for those areas which are hard or impossible to cover with the outdoor cells. The radio ports transmit with very low power for a small coverage area and keeping the generated interference low. The reuse of traffic channels between the small areas covered by the radio ports can possibly be very frequent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Tay Sachs Disease Essay Tay Sachs is an incurable genetic disease that affects the central nervous system. It is a rare disorder that occurs chiefly in infants and children, especially those of the Jewish heritage. It is characterized by a red spot in the retina, paralysis, gradual blindness, and loss of muscle movement. Tay Sachs can only be inherited, which means it is passed from parents to child only. The process begins in the fetus, very early in pregnancy. However, the disease does not become physically apparent until the child is several months old. Tay Sachs is caused by the absence of a vital enzyme, called the Hex A gene, which is in chromosome 15. This gene plays an important role in the nervous system. It breaks down the fatty substance called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents who suspect they might be at risk are strongly encouraged to be tested before pregnancy. Pregnant mothers can have their unborn babies tested for Hex A deficit that causes Tay Sachs. If these tests do not detect the Hex A gene, the baby has the Tay Sachs mutation. If the tests do detect the Hex A gene, then the baby is perfectly healthy. Between the 10th and 12th weeks of pregnancy, an expectant mother can get a chorionic villus sampling or CVS. In this procedure, a small sample of the placenta is drawn into a needle or small tube for analysis. Between 15 18 weeks of a pregnancy, an expecting mother could have an amniocentesis to test for the Hex A mutation. This test involves a needle that is inserted into the mother s belly to draw a sample of amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus. Children are usually tested for Tay Sachs after having hearing, sight, and movement problems. The disease can be identified by a doctor through blood tests and screening. Children affected by Tay Sachs disease are born seemingly normal and develop like any other child in the first three to six months of life. Throughout the next month, and sometimes even years, the baby will progressively lose the ability to see, hear, and move. The child will develop a cherry colored red spot in the back of the eye and they lose or never even gain important motor and mental skills. In one instance, it was argued that if an employee wrote a note to a friend with a work pencil and paper would this make it applicable to monitoring by the employer, as it was written with their pencil and paper. This is what employers are arguing when they state that they an employee is using their electronics, so therefore monitoring is applicable. Still others would argue that privacy in the workplace is a moral matter (Michael J. Meyer, SCU Professor). they are entitled to respect, which requires attention to their privacy. If a boss were to monitor every conversation or move, most of us would think of such an environment as more like a prison then a humane workplace. But in the case of phone calls or e mails some would believe that (William Parent, Privacy and Morality and the Law ) there should be put in place criteria for determining which invasion of privacy is justifiable. William Parent proposes that the employer should apply six questions to review whether their act of monitoring is allowable or not and that this would offer guidance.
