Common Law Summary And Analysis
Common Law claims are mostly determined by tort laws. Employees wishing to sue their employer
for workplace privacy may rely on privacy tort theories. Privacy tort is separated into four branches of
action: 1) Intrusion upon seclusion or solitude, or into private affairs, 2) public disclosure of
embarrassing private facts, 3) publicity which places a person in a false light in the public eye and 4)
appropriation of name or likeness. Intrusion of privacy tort is often used in many court cases between
employers and employees in the workplace ( Fazekas,2015).
In the case of Stengart v. Loving Care Agency, Marina Stengart used her company computer to send
personal emails to her lawyer. Her emails were exchanged through her personal email account

The Tragedy Of Captain O Hara
Captain O Hara was struggling with the situation at NAS Oceana, he was a military commander and
all of his training dealt with the military complex which was order. Now he was charged with policing
the civilian community that had been popping up around the base. It wasn t only this base but the
others bases close by were dealing with the same issues. They estimated the civilian numbers around
the base to be close to three thousand people. They lived mostly in squalor and there were food riots
about every other day. There was very little law and order in the camps and Captain O Hara was at a
loss at what to do. Civilian law enforcement had all but disappeared weeks after the event. They were

He believed in his Sailors and they had a lot of them sitting around doing nothing these days.
Hundreds had gone AWOL feeling that the US Navy was all but dead. Fort Story was a joint operation
base with Naval Amphibious Base Battle Creek. The Navy there was deeply embedded with Army and
recently were deployed along with the Soldiers. The Army command there had set up a crash course in
combat survival for the Sailors, they were re trained by the Army to patrol and fight along with the
Soldiers. That s what he needed, then it hit him, why couldn t the Marines do the same thing here?
Granted they were all aviation Marines but weren t all Marines combat rifleman first? Then there was
the company of Marines that was on one of the ships in port that were now being used to provide
security. He called in his XO Commander Avery Hardy, a twenty year Navy veteran, Avery, can you
find the Marine Company commander and ask him to report to me? Yes sir I m sure I can, what s up?
asked the Commander. I think I may have come up with a plan to help with our civilian security
problems. Can you get him in here ASAP please? Yes sir will do. With that the Commander saluted
and did an about face and left the office. Commander Hardy knew exactly where the Marine Company
commander was, they had set up a command post near the front gate. The purpose of that was to be

Security Techniques Essay
Techniques used by organisations
Overall information systems hardware, software, networks and data resources need to be protected and
secured to ensure the effective performance of an organization. One security technique used by
organizations to protect their computer systems from security threats is encryption this is a method
used by organizations to send data to others it works by using special mathematical algorithms to
convert the data into scrambled code before transmission and when the data is received it is decoded
when an authorized user accesses it. In my opinion, this is very effective because it stops people from
being able to read or use data if they intercepted it as the is in a scrambled letter and number form.

Anti virus software and Antispyware Software works by identifying suspicious software based on a
list of known threats it then checks the computer against that list and tells the user if it finds anything
on its list. In my opinion, Anti virus software and Anti Spyware Software is very effective because it
stops malicious software getting onto a computer which could steal or leak sensitive company data.
One security technique is protecting systems with usernames and passwords to access any equipment,
wireless networks and sensitive data should be guarded with unique usernames and passwords for
each member of staff, this is for two reasons it is an added layer of security so if someone hacks in
they have to get passed the password and it also allows companies to see what exactly their employees
are accessing, also the passwords that are used should be very strong so the passwords should include
numbers, letters and symbols and not have standard dictionary terms or dates such as birthdays which
are easy to guess. In my opinion, usernames and passwords are very effective because it makes it
harder for hackers to hack in and it allows companies to keep an eye on employees for example they
will be able to see what files they are accessing and if they are a risk to the company. One more
security technique is keeping sensitive data out of the cloud, Cloud computing offers businesses many

Porter s Five Forces Analysis
Value Innovation
We have all seen that despite recessions some companies grow in revenues and profits. Why is this so?
Until recently, the dominant theory applied to factors driving profitability of an industry was Porter s
Five Forces Model. As the name implies, the level of competitive intensity within an industry from
five specific sources determines attractiveness of an industry to potential entrants. Porter developed
Five Forces Analysis in response to SWOT analysis, a model he found too vague.
Porter s Five Forces include three forces from horizontal competition and two forces from vertical
competition: horizontally, the threat of substitute products or services, established rivals, and new
entrants; and vertically, two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If your customers rely on you to provide a tool or service that can be easily substituted with that of
another tool or service provider, your market power is weakened.
Your Blue Ocean Strategy
Kim and Mauborgne argue that this approach limits companies to a fight over ever smaller slices of an
existing market and therefore revenues. This is especially true in economies with an aging population.
While these traditional competition based or Red Ocean Strategies are necessary, they are insufficient
to sustain high performance. They argued that companies need to go beyond competing, seizing new
profit and growth opportunities in previously unexplored ways they call Blue Oceans.
Competition based strategies, such as Porter s Five Forces assume that an industry s fundamental
structure is a given and firms are obliged to compete within existing constraints. To sustain their
position in the marketplace, companies sticking to a Red Ocean Strategy emphasize creating
competitive advantage over the competition, usually by observing what the competition does and
striving to do what it does, but better or offering a cloned product, but cheaper. Attaining a bigger
market share in this environment is a zero sum game; one company s gain is another s loss.
In an effort to explain why certain companies grew faster and were more profitable than comparable
companies in their sector Kim and Mauborgne advanced the concept of Value Innovation.

Comparing Bradstreet s Poems To My Dear And Loving Husband
Anne Bradstreet Reading Questions
Choose two of the following five questions and write a well developed essay response to each. Look
for ways to compare the poems that you choose to write about, and offer transitions that indicate your
comparison of the works. Use MLA format to document quotes from the text.
2. How do you see Bradstreet s Puritan beliefs regarding love illustrated in To My Dear and Loving
Husband? Consider the Puritan attitude towards earthly rewards versus heavenly rewards. What is her
ultimate reward for loving her husband as she describes in the poem? Compare her attitude towards
love in this poem with one other poem we have read this week. Consider the different types of love
and ways of expressing it.
Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband demonstrates a strong confirmation to the value
placed on love and marriage, If ever two were one, then surely we (226). For a Puritan woman, loving
her husband and children and caring for their needs would have been her main concern. She considers

The Three Needs Of Yoga
Human beings are said to be made up of three components body, mind and soul and corresponding to
these there are three needs health, knowledge and need for inner peace. Health is a physical need,
whereas knowledge is our psychological need and inner peace is considered to be a spiritual need, and
when all the three are present then there is considered to be harmony inside us.
Yoga gives us relief from various ailments at the physical and mental level. The practice of the asanas
strengthens the body and thereby creates a feeling of well being. From the psychological point of
view, it sharpens the intellect and aids in concentration; it steadies our emotions and encourages a
sense of caring for others.

The best part of yoga is that as we begin the basic exercises we can immediately discover where our
deficiencies are and If we are really up to it, then we must not get discouraged by this.
Everyone can do yoga with perfection with a little amount of care and patience, yoga triggers our
body s natural adaptive and rejuvenating powers and unless we use those powers we will lose it and
with yoga we can get most of it back. It is even claimed by many that yoga gave them more vitality
than they ever had in their lives. Even late beginners have benefited a lot from its practice. For athletes
or sports persons, yoga can be a powerful enhancement in regular training exercises. Addition of yoga
in a routine training programme helps develop strength, agility, range of motion, concentration
cardio¬vascular health and reduces stress, tension and tightness. The most important benefit of adding
yoga to a training programme is its effect on one s performance. It allows an athlete to train harder to a
higher level because of increased flexibility and decrease in the fear of

The Effects Of Radiation And Its Effects On The Human Body
I .Background
Case Summary
Mary had been referred to the surgery by a dentist requesting the radiologist to take a set of bitewings
to check for interproximal caries. The bitewings were taken by implementing current best practice
principles using PSP image receptors. A week later , Mary had contacted the surgery in a traumatised
state as she had learnt that she was 6 weeks pregnant and was totally upset as she was worrying that
the radiation might have damaged the foetus. An assessment report on Radiation Biology was
prepared ,by considering key factors such as cellular effects of radiation ,somatic/genetic effects of
radiation, variation in radio sensitivity of tissues in the human body , radiation dosages used in
dentistry, dental radiography and the pregnant patient and the implementation of ALARA principles in
the professional practice. Based on the study recommendations were made and words advice were
given to the patient which were based on the scientific information presented in the report.
II.Discussions
(i.)Cellular effects of radiation
The effects of ionizing radiation include cell death, chromosomal aberrations, DNA damage,
mutagenesis, and carcinogenesis and these are caused due to the direct ionization of cell structures,
specifically DNA, or result indirectly due to the reactive oxygen species produced by radiolysis of
water. The main contributing factor to such effects is the irreparable or misrepaired DNA damage in
cells.( Desouky et al, 2015)

The Vietnam War Film Genre
The Vietnam film is a specific sub genre of the conventional Hollywood war film that arose as a result
of the 1960s counter culture. According to Elliot Stegall s article Ideological, Dystopic, and
Antimythopoetic Formations of Masculinity in the Vietnam War Film many American war films
depicted the glorification of war and emphasized the concept of American masculinity (Stegall).
Previous to the Vietnam period, Hollywood war films stuck to contemporary tropes. These films often
re enact the idea of good versus evil in which the male hero of the film triumphantly fights for their
country against a vilified enemy; thus reinforcing the American ideology of conquering the frontier
(Schweitzer 67). The hollywood war films are often enjoyable ... Show more content on

In Rich Schweitzer s article Born to Kill: S. Kubrick s Full Metal Jacket as Historical Representation
of America s Experience in Vietnam , he comments on the military s concern with: how to inculcate
civilians reared in a western tradition, which emphasized the sanctity of life, with a willingness to kill
(Schweitzer 64). Schweitzer s observation is most prominently debated in the beginning of the film.
Split into three segments, the film illustrates the phases of re birth, life, and death. The opening
sequence depicts re birth through the physical stripping of the individual identity. As the hair of the
recruits is shaved off while the men wear the same dull blue capes, their faces begin to blur together
into one unified identity. This is then furthered when the recruits are forced to say an oath to their
rifles during the beginning of their military training on Parris Island. The scene is shot from one point
perspective and displaying prominent symmetry in the composition. The room is stark and clinical.
The recruits are all dressed in white which is a colour often associated with innocence. The men lay on
their bunks in a head to toe formation which parallels with the scene of the mass Vietnamese grave in
which the bodies are laid in the same manner and covered in white Lime powder. However, the putrid
green colour is reminiscent of death or rather the process of dying which is contrasted by the violent
red of the floor.

The Identity Of The National Community
Migrants, despite their separate collection of lifestyles, have a common need to negotiate their
inclusion into the national community that dissimilar to that of their ethnic heritage. Strategic
representation is needed to collaborate their identities as migrants with their claims to inclusion. Of
course, some migrant children born in their parents host country may find themselves at odds with the
previous generations methods, and struggle to make themselves out as people who grow alongside the
national community. Ultimately, it is a matter of what migrants and their children intend for
themselves in terms of character and identity that enables them to form a deliberated relationship with
the neighboring locals. There are always distinctive ways of going about cultivating the migrants
status as outsiders, or people who do not belong amongst the locals, whether or not they realize it,
Migrants collaborate their individual and collective representations of belonging accordingly with
what they intend for themselves to be while taking into account the isolating perceptions of the present
national community.
Before anything else, it is vital to understand that the individual and collective representations of
belonging go beyond that of simple political adaption. Rather, should the migrants find themselves
developing a need to represent their communities, then it is clear that their new environment pressures
reexaminations and, perhaps, changes of personal identities. If

The Lucy E Parson Memorials
All three topics are for the public and tell our history over the years in a public way. One can see art as
in a form of a memorial that helps society in their rememory in the words of Toni Morrison. When you
think about memorials, one might ask themselves what are they for and what is the symbolic reason
behind it? An artist named Marjorie Woodruff expresses the same questions that are being raised.
Marjorie Woodruff dedicated an public art installation Spiral: The Lucy E. Parsons Memorial. One
does not agree with the time frame of the memorial because a memorial is there to preserve the
existence of the person who is being honored. So why was this particular memorial only up for two

Charles Manson s Influence On Society
In almost all lists of famous serial killers, probably the most mentioned among them all is Charles
Manson. With more than 35 documented killings and a cult of disciple murderers, Manson has become
the living embodiment that the devil walks on earth. But what has made this troubled youth into one of
America s feared monsters?
Charles Manson was born on November 12, 1934. Named Charles Milles Maddox, he was born and
raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, to a teenage mom, Kathleen Maddox. His alcoholic and prostitute mother
soon married William Manson but the marriage was short lived. His mother did not want anything to
do with the boy and this pushed him to live on the streets and fend for himself. Pretty soon, Charles
turned to petty crime to survive. By the time he was in his late teens, Charles was introduced to a life
in prison.
Charles met a girl in 1955 whom he married and brought with him to California. There, she became
pregnant and Charles was back into his life of petty crimes leading him to another time in prison in
1956. The young wife eventually left him after a year. After being released, Charles turned to other
crimes such as pimping, using stolen checks and conning a woman of her money. While on probation,
he met a prostitute Candy Stevens, who bore him a second child. By 1960, he was arrested for his
crimes and was sent to a Washington penitentiary.
In prison, troubles never escaped Charles. He once raped a fellow male inmate and he was considered

Social Role And Social Roles
Everybody in the world belongs to a subcultural group (people that come together that seek out others
sharing similar ideas or views) or plays a social role in it. Playing in a social role, as individuals, we
act in certain situations differently, such as in a work place, home, or around your peer groups. I
believe it s a real occurrence that a lot of people deal with daily. The ideology of a subculture group or
the social roles you play forms by separating or belonging in it and forming personal norms, sanctions,
material objects, symbols, language patterns, and social institutions. Such as me being an employee
(sales associate) at Payless and being a younger sister to an older brother which have similar ways but
they also have a few differences.
To begin with, when it comes to working for an economic institution I play a certain social role when
being a sales associate. I wouldn t act the same way at my job like I do with my family members or
my friends such as clowning around, teasing, cursing, or pulling pranks on each other. In my job
description there are norms and sanctions that I need to follow, breathe, and live by them. I m
responsible for following the Company s safety and environmental laws, regulations, and procedures
at work. For instance, always come in on time (unless you call in), follow the safety policies for
ourselves and customers such as prevention of accidents removing things that can cause a fall or slip
such as a 3 or 8 step ladder s or carts (children might mistake it as a toy), making sure boxes on top of
the rack shelves are less than 8 inches high (not in the way for sprinkles or falling over), making sure
each aisle is clean (nobody s going to come into a dirty store), putting shoes in their right particular
areas and sizes from kids on the left hand side, women s in the middle, and the men s on the right hand
side and straight across the back of the store. In addition, to safety reasons in work wear we can wear
almost about anything but must be comfortable like business wear or casual (no jeans, open back
sandals/heels, and must be knee length) and have a Payless store tag always, also when it comes to
lifting boxes we must always wear a black back support belt while lifting.

How Did Emily Dickinson Deal With Isolation
Some characters has faced isolation in society many different ways such as; isolation themselves from
their families, community, tradition, or even running away from their home and disappearing.
Characters in stories could face isolation because they could have been lonely, lost a loved one, or any
other situation that happens in their life. It s also different ways that characters deal with isolation and
how they could be effected by it. Despite the effectiveness it could have on other people. In the short
story, A Rose For Emily by William Faulkner and Emily Dickinson, both of these characters have
faced isolation and dealt with their situations a different way.
In the short story, A Rose For Emily by William Faulkner, was about a girl name Emily Grierson who
faced isolation and soon, couldn t control her physical and emotional actions. Emily lost her father
who she was ruled under and controlled her, she was still very close to him. When he passed away,

The Lewis s The Four Loves Essay
Many cruel actions in the world have been carried out in the name of love. Because of that, it s clear to
see how not all forms of love are pure. The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces.
All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a
love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love
being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely
separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves, Lewis dissects the different
forms of love. There are many connections to be made between characters throughout Till We Have
Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of the four loves
plays a part in the plot of the story.
The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical features do
not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend (Four Loves 31
32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel receives love from her younger
sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she frightens
people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a special bond. Psyche and Orual look at
the Fox as a father figure because he acts as a true grandfather towards them (21). Storge is found

Global Indicator Of Chinese And American Economy
1. American and Chinese economies in terms of using global, ethical, political, physical, and societal
indicators. Global indicator of Chinese and American economy Chines GDP is $13.983 trillion and US
GDP is $18.1 trillion while overall world GDP is $77.609 trillion both to gather contributes nearly
40% to the world so this says that the changes in any of the economy will have a greater impact on the
global economy. Currently the best way to calculate the growth of economy is using PPP model
(purchasing power of Parity). China PPP is 12608.87 US$ while US is having PPP is 52117.76 US$
which is major gap and this shows though china is having more GDP number but it s not as strong as
the US economy and that is a positive indication for the US. Currently China is over capitalized and
facing a bad debt issue which made them the slow growth and this is the one the reason of slow chines
growth. Currently china is more dependent on the exports and so many parts of the world are facing
recession so that the overall Chinese growth will decline. Australia is more dependent on export to
china which will also having a trouble in terms of decline in chines economy. Ethics indicator in

Although its policy prohibits off the clock work, Wal Mart has created a system of rewards and
punishments that seem to give managers strong incentives to demand such work. According to one
policy, described in a deposition by a senior payroll executive, store managers are ordered to keep
payroll costs below a target set by headquarters for every store. If a store misses its target, the manager
faces a reprimand, and sometimes demotion or dismissal. Another incentive Wal Mart gives store
managers to squeeze down labor costs is pegging annual bonuses to the profits of individual stores, a
system that is rare amongst big retailers. OBJECTIVE OF STUDY For this study, I will record the
daily closing stock prices for Wal Mart Stores, Inc. between the dates of December 3, 2007 and
January 31, 2008. I will then use Microsoft Excel to carry out several calculations using this data, in
order to find such statistical measures as the mean, median, sample variance and standard deviation. I
will then use the resulting figures to compare Wal Mart s stock performance in December 2007 to its
performance in January 2008. I am carrying out this study in order to prove that Wal Mart Stores, Inc.
had an equal mean of stock performance for the months of December 2007 and January 2008.

This report is based on the advantages and disadvantages of business format franchising and the
fundamentals of market entry methods. Using McDonalds which happens to be one of the largest food
service companies in the world, the author of this paper will look into the concepts of various market
entry strategies in comparison to business format franchising. This report will also look into various

It has been seen as the most widely utilised mode of entry towards rapid international expansion and is
primarily employed by fast food chains such as KFC, Wendy s, Kenny Rogers, A amp; W and
McDonald s among others followed by consumer service businesses such as hotel chains and car
rental, agencies such as Avis and Hertz. Franchises are basically ongoing business relationships which
involves 2 components (the franchisor and the franchisee). The franchisor (the owners of the business
format) issues a licence through an agreement which allows the franchisee the right or privilege to
distribute the goods and services that represents the franchisor s brand and business system for an
agreed sum (royalty or fee) (Doole amp; Lowe, 2008). In other words, franchising allows the rapid
growth or market expansion using a proven business format (intellectual property of the franchisor) it
also allows the assistance in the form of capital as well as the fervour of a group of network operators
that enhance the market positioning of the franchisee which would not be possible for a new business
without huge capitals (Dugan, 1998).
The basics of franchising involve the following elements which are most commonly found in most
franchise agreements. These factors are common, but not compulsory as it depends on the mutual
understanding between the franchisor and the franchisee.

A Walk In The Woods Analysis
Throughout A Walk in the Woods, Bill Bryson transitions between a narrative of his journey along the
Appalachian Trail and informational accounts of the history of the trail. To keep his readers engaged,
Bryson includes many light hearted moments, but he conveys the gravity of the trail through his
honest assessments regarding its adversities. Bryson uses a simple style that allows the readers to
follow along easily, but he includes strong imagery with higher level diction in order to better relate
the essence of the trail. All of these aspects express how something simple, like the Appalachian Trail,
can embody more than shallow sentiments.
Bryson structures his memoir by flowing between his experiences on the trail and facts about the trail.
Many times, his knowledgeable anecdotes relate to the leg of the journey he is currently relating. By
doing so, Bryson imparts stimulating and significant knowledge to the readers in such a way that the
readers can immediately see the significance of the facts. Bryson writes, The Smokies... are home to
130 native species of tree; the whole of Europe has just 85. By incorporating facts like these into his
writing, Bryson not only presents interesting information, but he presents it so that it adds to the
mental image of the mountains. Suddenly the reader can picture thousands of trees spanning through
the landscape, accented by the various colors and shapes. By swapping back and forth, Bryson
emphasizes his theme that the nature we have

Nutritionism Defined By Michael Pollan Rhetorical Analysis
Presenting and writing about information that people do not understand or have interest in can be
particularly challenging. As a writer, your goal is to push the reader to grasp the material that you are
writing about while also making sure the reader is enjoying reading and learning about whatever you
are writing about. However, achieving this balance in writing is not as easy as it may seem. When
writing about a topic that people may not be well versed in, it is natural to include an abundance of
facts in their work relating to and explaining the topic. In doing so, you may unintentionally bore or
confuse the reader if he/she does not have an interest in what they are reading. Fortunately, there are
strategies in which you can accomplish the aforementioned goal of making sure that the reader is
learning from and enjoying your writing. In Michael Pollan s essay, Nutritionism Defined , there are
instances in which he does a great job of presenting information that may not be very interesting to
read about and there are also instances in which he could have done a better job of capturing the
interest of those reading his essay.
One strategy an author can use in order to help the reader understand and understand the sides in the
reading is the incorporation of ethos pathos and logos. However, in this essay, only two of the three
will be used as there are clear examples of both pathos and logos. These two methods can help the

Usefulness Of The Concept Of Their Current World Essay
Usefulness of the concept to their current world
It encourages the productivity of an organization as employees are hired based on their skills and

The Galleria project is expected to generate about $10 million over the first two years, and the project
is expected to break even in five years. The projected annual revenue from the restaurant and gaming
is $1 million in year 1 and will grow to $35 million in year 10. Another $4 million expected annually
from other sources. Because this is a new business, the initial investment can be $18 million or higher.
If the estimates are a bit high, it may take a bit longer. It could take up to seven years to break even.
This still allows for a fairly quick break even point and an even greater return on investment when
considering long term financial goals.
The Galleria project is the most suitable for FTI, and it will fit in well with the strategic plans for the
company and will provide a strong financial return on investment. Building new competencies is
important to FTI to help achieve their vision of being among the top 10 hospitality service providers
and the corresponding mission statement of attracting more visitors and customers.

FTI will need to shift resources to manage this program. Sprint was faced with a similar problem in
their Enterprise Property Services project. They devoted 25% of their executive team to manage the

For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in...
For a long period of time, Malapropisms have been used in literature in order for a character to feign
ignorance, such as in Sheridan s play, The Rivals and is based off of a character in the play named
Mrs. Malaprop. In the play, Mrs. Malaprop would use words incorrectly. For example, Mrs. Malaprop
would substitute the word reprehend for aprehend . However, this feigned ignorance is now known as
a speech error termed by psycholinguistics and can happen when words are substituted by an
individual, even though the individual might know what the target word should be. In this essay, the
theory of how malapropisms are lexicalized will be discussed in terms of the structure of the mental
lexicon used in producing and understanding speech. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first is semantic substitutions and the second is form based substitutions which are also known as
word substitution errors that are phonologically based; also known as malapropisms. (Harley, 2008)
These two speech errors suggest that the process of word production and word comprehension are
contained in one lexicon, but from opposite directions. The aruement, according to Fay and Cutler in
the article Malapropisms, Left to Right Listing, and Lexicalism is that there is a single lexicon for
word production and comprehension.
Fay and Cutler argue that the reason for there being only one mental lexicon for word production and
word comprehension is that, much like a dictionary, words are listed in accordance to their
phonological sound and semantic meaning in the dictionary, therefore they are listed the same way in
an individuals mind (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 505 ). Thus, meaning being closely related to sound in
an individuals lexicon, the comprehension of a word is retrieved phonologically and each sound
relates to a particular meaning, therefore when an individual hears the beginning of a phonological
sound, the list in their mental lexicon retrieves the closest sounding word in relation to the word
semantically produced, even though the word has no semantic relation in accordence to its meaning
(Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 506 ). In other words, the target word an individual searches for in

The Similarities Between Spanish And Basque In Catalunya

national language of his home country. However, a notable number of people speak a cultural
language as well. The salience of these languages on the north vs. south side of the Pyrenees
Mountains is substantial. Catalan, spoken in northeastern Spain and southeastern France, and Basque,
a language isolate spoken in northern Spain and southwestern France, are minority languages. Both
are distinct from Castilian Spanish with their own literature, people, and culture. While Basque and

In Catalunya, Catalan is spoken fluently by 85% of the population with 97% claiming they understand
( Generalitat de Catalunya. 6). This mutual intelligibility between Spanish and Catalan suggests that
Catalan is only a dialect of Castilian. While many people would like to say this is true, and Spain
under Franco attempted to integrate Catalan into mainstream Spanish culture this way (Alguera 89),
the Catalan is a distinct language with it s own lexicon, literature, grammar rules, etc. It is a
mandatory subject for children in public education in the autonomous community ( Catalans. 109).
This contrasts the Basque Country where only 30% of the population is fully fluent in Basque
(Gobierno Vasco 17). Interestingly, although Basque is classified as a vulnerable language ( Data on
the Basque Language. ) and is spoken by less than a third of the population, the highest concentration
of speakers exists in young adults, where nearly 60% of people age 16 to 24 claim to be fluent
(Gobierno Vasco 21). I think this trend is interesting because one would think the older generations
had the higher percentage of Basque speakers, and the lowest among the younger age groups owing to
assimilation to Spanish language and culture. Although Basque and Catalan are recognized co official
languages and enjoy considerable clout and use, the situation is very different in France.
As the symbol for the national identity of the Basques, scholars have

Figurative Language In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And...
Anne Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband, is a small poem wherein she s revealing
her never ending love, devotion, and appreciation for her spouse. The fact that she was born around
the seventeenth century could mean it is puritan culture for women to remain reserved, regardless of
how they may truly feel; however, she makes it her obligation to make her husband aware of feelings,
whether positive or negative. She uses figurative language and declarative tone through imagery,
repetition, and paradoxes to send her message. To My Dear and Loving Husband can be interpreted in
many ways by many different people depending how it is initially read. This uncertainty allows the
poem to be interpreted on a surface level and on a deeper level.
One can sense the sincere meaning in poem on a literal level. A literal meaning of
Bradstreet s comes across when analyzed solely on the surface. It is initially assumed that she is
expressing her sincerest, undying love for husband. The poem opens with two if/then statements,
which sets up quite a logical tone. In the first line of her poem she states, If ever two were one, then
surely we (1). This line entertains the belief that she and her husband are one entity; what happens to
one, will happen to the other. Also, the speaker says that if two people were ever one person, then she
and her husband surely are. In the second, she says that if ever any man has been loved by his wife,
her husband has been. (2). As stated

The Midwife s Tale By Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
This generation of women, may it be young or old, are fortunate to live in a country where you can be
anything, do anything, and say anything that men can. Although in theory the playing fields are still
not completely even, we as a nation have made some substantial progress in women s rights. Just a
few hundred years ago, women livered mundane lives and rarely got to speak up for themselves. In the
book, The Midwife s Tale by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, it follows the life of Martha Ballard through the
use of her own diary. Martha Ballard captures the lives of common women in the Early Republic Era

This is what makes Mrs. Ballard s diary so important. Her journal demonstrates how she chose an
occupation that gives her complete authority over her own actions and career choices, which was rare
in the Early Republic Era. Her being a midwife let her dictate the jobs that she did and did not accept.
Martha gets the honor of showing the world that women of her time did all they could to be as
independent as possible. In The Midwife s Tale, Laurel Ulrich explains, She gardened, sewed, cared
for her grandchildren, nursed the sick, laid out the dead, and delivered babies (276). She was a woman
of many talents. Martha lived by a value that she expects the same respect in return and undertakes
full authority over the responsibilities she considers to be her own.
An important quote that gives the newer generation an idea of the common women at this time is from
the March 1804 chapter. Historian Laurel Ulrich quotes, The mixing of governours in a household, or
subordinating or uniting of two masters, or two dames under one roof, doth fall out most times, to be a
matter of much unquietness to all parties (281). This is a quote from 1624, an early English essay on
marriage. This quote is in regards to the clear annoyance Martha journaled about in her March entries
regarding her husband. Martha feels she alone should get the right to manage all the female workers

Examples Of Microtransactions
So what exactly are microtransactions? Microtransactions can be defined as the exchange of real
money for virtual goods. It is a system where users can purchase virtual goods via micropayments.
hence the term microtransaction ( Microtransaction 2017.) This type of business model is common in
free to play games and is typically used to speed up progression within the game itself. However,
some developers have decided to incorporate microtransactions despite customers already paying the
full price for the game. While this is not necessarily an issue if the goods are cosmetic and have no

In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not
acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could have
made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the cost of
the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins for what
would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I would have
lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited the
microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been satisfied,
but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary, the decision
was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead decided to further
their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so prevalent one has to
understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as early 2005 with the release
of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase virtual goods such

  • 2. Common Law Summary And Analysis Common Law claims are mostly determined by tort laws. Employees wishing to sue their employer for workplace privacy may rely on privacy tort theories. Privacy tort is separated into four branches of action: 1) Intrusion upon seclusion or solitude, or into private affairs, 2) public disclosure of embarrassing private facts, 3) publicity which places a person in a false light in the public eye and 4) appropriation of name or likeness. Intrusion of privacy tort is often used in many court cases between employers and employees in the workplace ( Fazekas,2015). In the case of Stengart v. Loving Care Agency, Marina Stengart used her company computer to send personal emails to her lawyer. Her emails were exchanged through her personal email account ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Tragedy Of Captain O Hara Captain O Hara was struggling with the situation at NAS Oceana, he was a military commander and all of his training dealt with the military complex which was order. Now he was charged with policing the civilian community that had been popping up around the base. It wasn t only this base but the others bases close by were dealing with the same issues. They estimated the civilian numbers around the base to be close to three thousand people. They lived mostly in squalor and there were food riots about every other day. There was very little law and order in the camps and Captain O Hara was at a loss at what to do. Civilian law enforcement had all but disappeared weeks after the event. He called in his XO Commander Avery Hardy, a twenty year Navy veteran, Avery, can you find the Marine Company commander and ask him to report to me? Yes sir I m sure I can, what s up? asked the Commander. I think I may have come up with a plan to help with our civilian security problems. Can you get him in here ASAP please? Yes sir will do. Security Techniques Essay Techniques used by organisations Overall information systems hardware, software, networks and data resources need to be protected and secured to ensure the effective performance of an organization. One security technique used by organizations to protect their computer systems from security threats is encryption this is a method used by organizations to send data to others it works by using special mathematical algorithms to convert the data into scrambled code before transmission and when the data is received it is decoded when an authorized user accesses it. In my opinion, this is very effective because it stops people from being able to read or use data if they intercepted it as the is in a scrambled letter and number form. Another ... In my opinion, Anti virus software and Anti Spyware Software is very effective because it stops malicious software getting onto a computer which could steal or leak sensitive company data. One security technique is protecting systems with usernames and passwords to access any equipment, wireless networks and sensitive data should be guarded with unique usernames and passwords for each member of staff, this is for two reasons it is an added layer of security so if someone hacks in they have to get passed the password and it also allows companies to see what exactly their employees are accessing, also the passwords that are used should be very strong so the passwords should include numbers, letters and symbols and not have standard dictionary terms or dates such as birthdays which are easy to guess. In my opinion, usernames and passwords are very effective because it makes it harder for hackers to hack in and it allows companies to keep an eye on employees for example they will be able to see what files they are accessing and if they are a risk to the company. One more security technique is keeping sensitive data out of the cloud, Cloud computing offers businesses many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Porter s Five Forces Analysis Value Innovation We have all seen that despite recessions some companies grow in revenues and profits. Why is this so? Until recently, the dominant theory applied to factors driving profitability of an industry was Porter s Five Forces Model. As the name implies, the level of competitive intensity within an industry from five specific sources determines attractiveness of an industry to potential entrants. Porter developed Five Forces Analysis in response to SWOT analysis, a model he found too vague. Porter s Five Forces include three forces from horizontal competition and two forces from vertical competition: horizontally, the threat of substitute products or services, established rivals, and new entrants; and vertically, two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If your customers rely on you to provide a tool or service that can be easily substituted with that of another tool or service provider, your market power is weakened. Your Blue Ocean Strategy Kim and Mauborgne argue that this approach limits companies to a fight over ever smaller slices of an existing market and therefore revenues. This is especially true in economies with an aging population. While these traditional competition based or Red Ocean Strategies are necessary, they are insufficient to sustain high performance. They argued that companies need to go beyond competing, seizing new profit and growth opportunities in previously unexplored ways they call Blue Oceans. Competition based strategies, such as Porter s Five Forces assume that an industry s fundamental structure is a given and firms are obliged to compete within existing constraints. To sustain their position in the marketplace, companies sticking to a Red Ocean Strategy emphasize creating competitive advantage over the competition, usually by observing what the competition does and striving to do what it does, but better or offering a cloned product, but cheaper. Attaining a bigger market share in this environment is a zero sum game; one company s gain is another s loss. In an effort to explain why certain companies grew faster and were more profitable than comparable companies in their sector Kim and Mauborgne advanced the concept of Value Innovation. How do you see Bradstreet s Puritan beliefs regarding love illustrated in To My Dear and Loving Husband? Consider the Puritan attitude towards earthly rewards versus heavenly rewards. What is her ultimate reward for loving her husband as she describes in the poem? Compare her attitude towards love in this poem with one other poem we have read this week. Bradstreet s poem, To My Dear and Loving Husband demonstrates a strong confirmation to the value placed on love and marriage, If ever two were one, then surely we (226). • 10. The Effects Of Radiation And Its Effects On The Human Body I .Background Case Summary Mary had been referred to the surgery by a dentist requesting the radiologist to take a set of bitewings to check for interproximal caries. The bitewings were taken by implementing current best practice principles using PSP image receptors. A week later , Mary had contacted the surgery in a traumatised state as she had learnt that she was 6 weeks pregnant and was totally upset as she was worrying that the radiation might have damaged the foetus. An assessment report on Radiation Biology was prepared ,by considering key factors such as cellular effects of radiation ,somatic/genetic effects of radiation, variation in radio sensitivity of tissues in the human body , radiation dosages used in dentistry, dental radiography and the pregnant patient and the implementation of ALARA principles in the professional practice. Based on the study recommendations were made and words advice were given to the patient which were based on the scientific information presented in the report. • 11. The Vietnam War Film Genre The Vietnam film is a specific sub genre of the conventional Hollywood war film that arose as a result of the 1960s counter culture. According to Elliot Stegall s article Ideological, Dystopic, and Antimythopoetic Formations of Masculinity in the Vietnam War Film many American war films depicted the glorification of war and emphasized the concept of American masculinity (Stegall). Previous to the Vietnam period, Hollywood war films stuck to contemporary tropes. These films often re enact the idea of good versus evil in which the male hero of the film triumphantly fights for their country against a vilified enemy; thus reinforcing the American ideology of conquering the frontier (Schweitzer 67). Kubrick s Full Metal Jacket as Historical Representation of America s Experience in Vietnam , he comments on the military s concern with: how to inculcate civilians reared in a western tradition, which emphasized the sanctity of life, with a willingness to kill (Schweitzer 64). Schweitzer s observation is most prominently debated in the beginning of the film. Split into three segments, the film illustrates the phases of re birth, life, and death. The opening sequence depicts re birth through the physical stripping of the individual identity. As the hair of the recruits is shaved off while the men wear the same dull blue capes, their faces begin to blur together into one unified identity. This is then furthered when the recruits are forced to say an oath to their rifles during the beginning of their military training on Parris Island. The scene is shot from one point perspective and displaying prominent symmetry in the composition. The room is stark and clinical. The recruits are all dressed in white which is a colour often associated with innocence. The men lay on their bunks in a head to toe formation which parallels with the scene of the mass Vietnamese grave in which the bodies are laid in the same manner and covered in white Lime powder. However, the putrid green colour is reminiscent of death or rather the process of dying which is contrasted by the violent red of the floor. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Identity Of The National Community Migrants, despite their separate collection of lifestyles, have a common need to negotiate their inclusion into the national community that dissimilar to that of their ethnic heritage. Strategic representation is needed to collaborate their identities as migrants with their claims to inclusion. Of course, some migrant children born in their parents host country may find themselves at odds with the previous generations methods, and struggle to make themselves out as people who grow alongside the national community. Ultimately, it is a matter of what migrants and their children intend for themselves in terms of character and identity that enables them to form a deliberated relationship with the neighboring locals. There are always distinctive ways of going about cultivating the migrants status as outsiders, or people who do not belong amongst the locals, whether or not they realize it, Migrants collaborate their individual and collective representations of belonging accordingly with what they intend for themselves to be while taking into account the isolating perceptions of the present national community. Before anything else, it is vital to understand that the individual and collective representations of belonging go beyond that of simple political adaption. Rather, should the migrants find themselves developing a need to represent their communities, then it is clear that their new environment pressures reexaminations and, perhaps, changes of personal identities. One can see art as in a form of a memorial that helps society in their rememory in the words of Toni Morrison. An artist named Marjorie Woodruff expresses the same questions that are being raised. Marjorie Woodruff dedicated an public art installation Spiral: The Lucy E. Parsons Memorial. The ideology of a subculture group or the social roles you play forms by separating or belonging in it and forming personal norms, sanctions, material objects, symbols, language patterns, and social institutions. Such as me being an employee (sales associate) at Payless and being a younger sister to an older brother which have similar ways but they also have a few differences. To begin with, when it comes to working for an economic institution I play a certain social role when being a sales associate. I wouldn t act the same way at my job like I do with my family members or my friends such as clowning around, teasing, cursing, or pulling pranks on each other. In my job description there are norms and sanctions that I need to follow, breathe, and live by them. • 18. The Lewis s The Four Loves Essay Many cruel actions in the world have been carried out in the name of love. Because of that, it s clear to see how not all forms of love are pure. The nature of love is a prominent theme in Till We Have Faces. All of the relationships in this book are unique there are no two alike. In every relationship, there is a love factor. Unfortunately, in English, there are no words to distinguish different types of the love being felt. A person can love creatures, reading, and family members, but those are all entirely separate interpretations of the word love. In the book, The Four Loves, Lewis dissects the different forms of love. There are many connections to be made between characters throughout Till We Have Faces and the four different types of love: Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape. Each of the four loves plays a part in the plot of the story. The first of these loves is storge. Storge, Greek for affection, is the love in which physical features do not have importance. An example would be a love for a family member or close friend (Four Loves 31 32). In Till We Have Faces, Orual the narrator and heroine of the novel receives love from her younger sister, Psyche. The Fox, a Greek slave and father figure, also loves Orual even though she frightens people with her face (26). The Fox, Orual, and Psyche have a special bond. In the play, Mrs. Malaprop would use words incorrectly. For example, Mrs. Malaprop would substitute the word reprehend for aprehend . However, this feigned ignorance is now known as a speech error termed by psycholinguistics and can happen when words are substituted by an individual, even though the individual might know what the target word should be. The first is semantic substitutions and the second is form based substitutions which are also known as word substitution errors that are phonologically based; also known as malapropisms. (Harley, 2008) These two speech errors suggest that the process of word production and word comprehension are contained in one lexicon, but from opposite directions. The aruement, according to Fay and Cutler in the article Malapropisms, Left to Right Listing, and Lexicalism is that there is a single lexicon for word production and comprehension. Fay and Cutler argue that the reason for there being only one mental lexicon for word production and word comprehension is that, much like a dictionary, words are listed in accordance to their phonological sound and semantic meaning in the dictionary, therefore they are listed the same way in an individuals mind (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 505 ). Thus, meaning being closely related to sound in an individuals lexicon, the comprehension of a word is retrieved phonologically and each sound relates to a particular meaning, therefore when an individual hears the beginning of a phonological sound, the list in their mental lexicon retrieves the closest sounding word in relation to the word semantically produced, even though the word has no semantic relation in accordence to its meaning (Fay and Cutler, 1977, p. 506 ). That being said pollution will always play a role in the production of the roboglove. In terms of social issues there will always be a moderately sized group of individuals who do not agree with some human prosthetics. Most of the negativity comes from how the materials are actually obtained. The majority of the time, animals have to be tested before humans receive the prosthetics. Essay On Learned Helplessness The Effects of Uncontrollable and Unpredictable Events on Anagram Solving Learned helplessness (LH) is related to behavior and psychological disorders found in humans and animal containing the potential to affect their health negatively. This is often associated when an individual experiences a sense of powerlessness after being in similar circumstances repeatedly and begins to feel as a consistent failure. An analysis was made to examine the effects of uncontrollability and unpredictability behaviors in an anagram task (Winefield Tiggemann, 1978). Psychologist Seligman had accidentally discovered this concept of learned helplessness while conducting a study on dogs that were expected to receive an electrical shock after hearing a tone. Two evaluations were taken in the anagram performance that collected the data for the number of fail attempts to solve the anagrams and the mean of responses potential (Henderson Lohr, 1982). The individuals responses to the questionnaires were more affected negatively than positive. Participants were mostly frustrated by having to solve the anagram. Even though there wasn t a time limit, the participants felt as if they didn t meet the one minute rule and felt as if they weren t smart enough. As mentioned by Harris Tryon (1983), they implicated the nature of the instructions as an important variable for producing response deficits and the different effects should result from telling a subject (correctly or incorrectly) that he or she can solve the task at ... In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could have made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the cost of the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins for what would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I would have lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited the microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been satisfied, but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary, the decision was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead decided to further their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so prevalent one has to understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as early 2005 with the release of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase virtual goods such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
