Essay on The Great Railroad Strike
The Great Railroad Strike
In the first half of the 19th Century the working class in the newly industrializing American
society suffered many forms of exploitation. The working class of the mid nineteenth century, with
constant oppression by the capitalist and by the division between class, race, and ethnicity, made
it difficult to form solidarity. After years of oppression and exploitation by the ruling class, the
working class struck back and briefly paralyzed American commerce. The strike, which only lasted
a few weeks, was the spark needed to ignite a national revolt by the working class with the most
violent labor upheavals of the century.
Railroads were the big business of the mid nineteenth century. The rail companies employed...

During this period, many Americans, and particularly industrialists and the emerging middle class,
came to embrace the doctrine of laissez faire. The poor were so because they lacked ability and
determination. The rich were comfortable because of their superior talents and thrift, argued
supporters of a new ideology which turned Charles Darwin s theory of evolution into a new vision
of society s survival of the fittest.
As the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, it was realized by the laborers of the
railroad that their nation s economic growth and prosperity was not being equally shared among
the people. Coupled with years of wage cuts (35% over 3 years), and workforce reductions, that
then required remaining workers to work 15 18 hour days, the workers fought back.
In May of 1877 the Pennsylvania line announced another wage reduction of 10% to the worker s
along with speed ups (double the work). At this point the workers accepted it. Then in July of 1877
the Baltimore Ohio line announced a 10% cut in pay. The workers questioned management, В‘how
could they survive on these wages and terms? But the owners did not listen, instead they took the
position В‘quit if you don t like it .
On July 16, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, some of the workers decided to В‘quit and refused to
work. This spontaneous strike sparked protests in other cities including St. Louis,

Western Culture Has Brought More Negative Impacts On The Malaysian Youth.
Western culture is a body of knowledge derived from reason that began in Ancient Greece. There
and in the Roman civilization it developed until the start of the Middle Ages when it largely
vanished from Europe. During the Middle Ages, Western cultureresided, instead, in the Arab
/ Persian world to a modest degree. Today, Western culture has at least some presence in nearly all
nations of the world. It does not currently exist, however, anywhere in a perfect and complete form.
Wherever Western culture exists, it is at least partially mixed, and often largely mixed with non

These casual sexual encounters among Malaysian youth have contributed to a social problem that
appears every day in newspaper and mass media. From the period of January until July 2010,
public were shocked, appalled, dismayed by the increasing reported cases of abandoned babies,
some of whom were found dead. This incident indirectly indicated that something is wrong in our
society.
Statistics from the Malaysia Welfare Department from January to April 2010, reported that 111
unmarried young girls were pregnant. The figure, however, is just the tip of the iceberg as
many cases go unreported and pregnancies terminated. It also reported in New Straits Times on
23rd July 2010, the body of a baby girl found in a bag at a bus stop near the Sultan Ismail
Hospital, Johor Bahru in the morning. Also there a baby found buried. New Straits Times on 18th
July 2010, reported that a fetus was found buried by the roadside in Jalan 12, Bandar Puteri
Puchong, Selangor. As mention by the Dr Ismail Thamby in the Bernama on 26 August 2010,
normally young people will not think of the consequences of their actions because they are easily
driven by factors such as influence by pornographic materials on the internet, as well as they lack of
religious knowledge.

Analysis Of The Movie The Tv Series Californication
American Culture can be displayed in many forms in a variety of shows, but the TV series
Californication is one that expresses both the good and the bad parts about living in a modern
society. Californication is about a self loathing writer named Hank Moody trying to repair his
relationship with his daughter Becca and her mother Karen while simultaneously trying to fight his
sex addiction, his budding addiction to drugs and the inability to stop making bad decisions
(Kapinos, IMDb). This show depicts American Culture through the main characters lives through
tragedy, family, romantic relationships, and friendships.
Starting with Hank Moody, he is the main character in this show he is a successful novelist who
up and moves from New York to Las Angeles, California to turn his novel into a screenplay.
Which he ultimately ends up hating and is unhappy about it on many accounts throughout the
show (Kapinos, netflix). From the lack of motivation to write and the alcohol and drug binges
California has ultimately changed Hank for the worse. This really shows that there are bad parts
about American culture it tells us how drugs have become a normal part of some people s lives.
Hank can be described as intelligent, sarcastic, a smooth talker and a womanizer. Despite his love
for women and drugs Hank s ultimate goal is to be a good father to his teenaged daughter Becca
and the loving and supportive partner he should be with Karen.
Hank s life seems more like a downward spiral of

Descriptive Essay On Beach Vacation
My family has been looking forward to our annual beach vacation since last year s trip to
Alabama. Although it has been a long, winding journey for two days, hauling through five states
and having a personal concert in the passenger seat for fourteen hours, it was all worth it by the
time we make it. Beach Boulevard is overflowing with giant houses, palm trees, stores, and
thousands of other activities we are in a position to do. Everyone in the car is so antsy, we roll
our windows down and breathe in the sweet, warm Alabama air. My eyes locked on my phone, I
count down the miles until we arrive at our destination. Ten miles... Five miles... Three miles...
One mile... Two Hundred feet... You have arrived at your destination, Siri informs me. Pulling
into the driveway, not a single soul waits for the car to stop completely. We leap out of the
vehicle, hugging my distant relatives from Louisiana and rapidly begin sprinting down to the
water. My friend, Kambri, and I are flinging sand behind us, with the wind blasting against our
faces. Finally arriving to the ocean, we stand shoulder to shoulder along the shore, taking it all in.
Silently, we listen to the continuous, calming crashes of water, allowing it to splash up our legs,
for the salty breeze to blow through our hair, and the rays of the sunshine on our pale adolescent
bodies. I have never felt more at home than I do right now, in this moment in time.
My extended family promptly begins to unpack the loaded vehicles. Opening the wide truck
tailgates, there is not even room for a fly to buzz around back there. Stuffed to the top, the bed of
the truck was full of over packed clothes, unhealthy sugary snacks, tubs packed to the rim with
bottles of sunscreen, and of course, a plethora of sand toys. Us kids toss the bags at the top of
the winding staircase, quickly scoping out our temporary house for the week. As we make it up
to our room, we do not skip a beat unzipping our suitcases to find the superb fitted, blue bikini for
our first day in paradise. Before any adult has time to summon us back downstairs to help them
finish unloading the cars, we are out the door and headed down to the beach. On our journey down,
we each grab our newly purchased, Aztec

The Qualities And Traits Of Leaders Essay
2The qualities and traits of leaders
A number of leadership traits almost come directly from within. These are the qualities that might
be harder to train, but which make leading other people smoother.
Committed
A good leader has to show commitment. Fulfilling your vision won t happen overnight and you
need to be able to convince everyone else that you won t disappear when things get tough. If you
make a promise, you need to keep it. You can t just preach about achieving A, B and C, but you
need to show that you are actually going to do it.
Commitment matters for two reasons. First, when you show commitment you help build trust. The
team and anyone involved with the project will be able to trust your word. Trust will keep work
morale up and help you achieve objectives faster since people don t need to second guess what your
objectives are. But furthermore, the second aspect of commitment is about setting an example. As
mentioned throughout the article, leadership is about setting an example and if you show
commitment to your word, your subordinates will be inspired to stick to their promises. Using
your own example of hard work, you will ensure the people around you feel motivated to do the
same thing.
Passionate
Passion should be at the heart of everything you do. It doesn t matter whether you are a leader of a
multibillion company or a lumberjack, without passion, you won t achieve success. You can
understand its importance when you view it as the fuel to your truck.

Tartuffe Essay
Tartuffe
In his most notorious play Tartuffe, MoliГЁre relates the story of an attempt, by a manipulative
hypocrite, to destroy the domestic happiness of a citizen who, charmed by his seeming piety, has
taken him into his home as a respectable guest. The play was disallowed after its first performance
because it was deemed anti religion. However this ruling was made unfairly since true religion is
never confounded with hypocrisy, but is upheld with warmth, which shows his characteristic hatred
of imposture in any shape.
Through out Tartuffe, MoliГЁre s play... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The interests of God have pushed them to extremes.
These are my heroes. They re the men I think are great.
And they re the men whom I would want to imitate.
On first seeing Tartuffe performed in Versailles, the King immediately recognized and appreciated
its genius. He understood that it was strictly addressing hypocrisy, however concern about the play
began to grow as its performance moved to Paris. MoliГЁre s adversaries claimed that under the
fake motive of trying to expose hypocrisy, he actually sought to undermine the foundations of
religion itself. Pressure from the opposition, which included the Catholic Church, the archbishop of
Paris, the Queen Mother Anne of Austria, and the Company of the Holy Sacrament forced Louis
XIV to ban the play in Paris.
The argument could be made that The King s initial approval stemmed from the fact that Tartuffe
includes patronage in the form of not so subtle flattery and references to Louis XIV and his family
and associates, rather than the theme of hypocrisy versus sincerity. One instance of this being in
the final act where the King s authorities come to arrest Tartuffe for a history of swindling people
out of their fortune. The officer refers to his King as:
He sees things as they are; you ll find that wicked schemes

Absolutely True Diary Of A Part-Time Indian
Have you ever wondered what it s like to live on an Indian reservation? Well in the book The
Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie you can begin to see and know
what it is like. This novel focuses around the life of a boy named junior who struggles with fitting
in anywhere, on the rez, or in the white school he goes to. You can see his struggle with connecting
to his familyand people off the rez in this book. In this journal, I will be questioning why Junior

Junior to a candle. First, I will be questioning why Junior decides to start going to school off the

Lastly, I am connecting Junior to a candle. I know, I know that is a weird connection but just
wait to hear what I mean. A candle cannot light itself. That is just impossible. There is no way in
the world that a candle could light itself, it would need someone else to do it. The same also
goes for Junior. He cannot make something of himself on his own; he needs the push and/or
suggestion to make a change in his life from someone else. His parents letting him go to that
school was like the strike of the match to light the candle itself. I connect Junior to a candle
because he has a fire burning inside him and he just needed someone to light it for him. In
conclusion, Junior is a very smart kid trying to handle living on an Indian reservation and having
these big dreams, trying also to relate with his family and friends. Junior is trying to make it in
the world, and the way to do that is for him to go to a school off the rez. In this journal, I

Camouflage Brandy Analysis
Throughout history, Musicians have used songs to tell stories, raise questions, and express
their feelings. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her realization that love comes
naturally, and no one should have to change who they are in order to be love by giving an
ultimatum through the use of metaphors, imagery, and word choices. This song is also
empowering and uplifting through its use of words. In Camouflage Brandy uses metaphor and
imagery to reveal and embrace her personality. I m a work in progress, I m a seed grown into a
flower (Norwood 1 and 2). She compares herself to a work in progress, which infers that she is
unstable, disorganized, and is not complete as a person. Brandy also states that she is a seed
grown into a flower, a seed by itself is not seen as beautiful, but as time passes it grows and the
flower blooms. The flower that blossom has a pretty color smells nice, and seen as beautiful and
appreciated by people. Even with all of her flaws, she realizes that I aint t perfect, Tell me who in

Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning they are able to grow (i.e. differentiate) into all
derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. In other words,
they can develop into each of the more than 200 cell types of the adult body as long as they are

Us Involvement In The Vietnam War Essay
The Vietnam war was a civil war between Northern and Southern Vietnam. The two halves of
Vietnam were separated because of disagreements in governmental policies. American troops

Fairy Tales Speak trough Symbols
Fairy tales have fed the imagination of many generations during the centuries. Through these
stories, the human s mind can fly beyond the reality and create new worlds with their specific rules
and creatures. Symbolism is an intrinsic element of these creative stories. Fairy tales convey many
meanings through symbols and consequently create a deeper space for their audiences. They look
like a road that every time a person passes through them, he/she can find new things around.

In the sleeping beauty , the dangers of puberty is symbolized by an accident in which a spindle

out the poisoned comb and holding it up and [snow white] let herself be deceived, and opened the

Both stories try to symbolize the curiosity of the heroine towards her own body and her attempt
to explore her sexuality is punished with near death (Stone 47). Sleeping Beauty tries to navigate
through all the hidden places of the castle and during this navigation she finds a little door, with

The Demise Of African Prosperity
The Demise of African Prosperity: Effects of the Transatlantic Slave Trade
The Transatlantic slave trade, a catastrophic event in the 15th to 19th century, affected millions of
Africans and Europeans alike. Slaves were ripped from their homes and sent to the foreign lands,
becoming the fundamental source of labour for mining and agricultural industries in the New
World. Historians Hugh Thomas, Walter Rodney and John Thornton have contradictory beliefs
about the effects of the Transatlantic slave trade on Africa. Thomas argues that the slave trade was
beneficial to Africa, while Rodney argues a more negative position, claiming that the unequal trade
lead to population loss and warfare. Thornton argues neutrally states that the slave trade was simply
an internal trade diverted to the Atlantic. Although historians such as Hugh Thomas believe that the
Transatlantic provided short term economic stimulus to Urban Empires, the slave trade was overall
detrimental, leading to economic consequences and social and political conflict. The African Slave
trade, as stated by Hugh Thomas in The Atlantic World in the Age of Empire brought an influx of
European goods and employment, providing a short term benefit that was, in the long term,
detrimental to the African economy. Contrary to John Thornton s speculation of Europe and Africa
s partnership, Europe imposed economic dependency and involuntary trade on Africa, which

Theme Of Depression In The Death Of Ivan Ilych
Depression is a mental health disorder that is very debilitating and causes one to lose interest in the
things that he once enjoyed. In the novella, The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy, depression is a
key theme that developed throughout the story. Ivan Ilych, the protagonist of Tolstoy s novella, is a
character that one could infer, struggles with this disorder of the mind. Ivan died of a fatal sickness
by the end of the story, but he was never aware of his true illness. One could say that Ivan was
long dead to the world, even before he truly departed from it. In the last years of his life he became

Robert Nozick s Experience Machine
In this essay, following a brief discussion on Nozick s Experience Machine , I argue that his
assumption that nobody would plug into the experience machine is a false one due to his failure to
fully explore what creates a pleasurable experience. I will then further discuss this idea of pleasure,
suggesting that it is possible that the experience machinecould potentially offer an experience that
people would be more inclined to participate in and that more fully imitates reality. However, I
will counter this with the Nozick s affirmation that people desire to connect with reality and
mimicry of reality does not allow a part in the course of our universe.
Robert Nozick suggests in his thought experiment regarding the experience machine that ... Show

For example, most people may not delight in the process of attending school, but they would still
desire the end goal of becoming a more knowledgeable person or even simply the satisfaction of
completing tasks. This is not hedonistic delight, but a fulfilment of desires through relatively
unpleasant means. Nozick seems to offer through his examples that his machine may possibly
simulate these things, as long as the experience is ultimately a pleasurable one, and I suspect that
this means the result is an elevated feeling of joy. If we offer this deeper, more complicated view
on pleasure and fulfilment and state that the experience machine could still offer this to us, it
seems possible that people would be inclined to disagree with Nozick s idea that nobody would

Is Cheerleading A Sport Essay
Is Cheerleading a Sport? A lot of people do not consider cheerleading to be a sport. When most
people think of cheerleading, they think of pretty girls in skirts, waving pompons, cheering for
their school s football or basketball team. Although that can be true, that is not all cheerleading is.
There are two types of cheerleading. There is sideline cheerleading, and there is competitive
cheerleading. Sideline cheerleading is what goes on at a football or basketball games.
Competitive cheerleading is what is shown on television stations like ESPN where a team of
guys and girls preform a routine. Although sideline cheerleading is not considered a sport,
competitive cheerleading is. Sideline cheerleading is what people most often see. According to
Renee R., Sideline cheerleaders main goal is to entertain the crowd and lead them with team

strength in us comes from not only our exercise but also our commitment to cheer. (Asia Webb)

Surowiecki s Social Comparison Theory
To effectively achieve the goals of political activities, everyone in the group should avoid social
comparison and keep his or her original ideas. Social comparison results in people trying to stay in
tune with the group. Surowiecki announces that It means that people are constantly comparing
themselves to everyone else with an eye toward maintaining their relative position within the group
(Surowiecki 479) Since all the people depend on each other for existence, it is inevitable to
comparing themselves to others and caring about what others think of them. People with unique
ideas which are against most of the group members beliefs, are more likely to be regarded as aliens
and excluded from the group. To maintain their relative position within the group and to gain
acceptance from other group members,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surowiecki s social comparison theory can be applied to the explanation of the phenomenon
that Gladwell mentions. Gladwell writes, And the primary determinant of who showed up was
critical friends the more friends you had who were critical of the regime the more likely you
were to join the protest (Gladwell 234). A person who is an advocate of the government tends to
alter his or her idea if most of his or her friends are critical of the regime. And the more friends he
or she have who are against the authorities, the more likely he or she modifies original ideas and
pretend to think just like others in order to maintain his or her relative position in groups. Thus,
the number of critical friends determines the the possibility of joining the protest. Gladwell states a
fact that critical friends affects the process of making a political decision. On the other hand,
Surowiecki reveals the phenomenon and use the social comparison theory to it. There is no
denying that people within a group have a tendency to adapt their original ideas for the purpose of

Application For A Alternative Science Program
Good morning Ms. Credille and Ms. Brunelle,
Mark contacted me after the accommodation meeting yesterday afternoon stating that I had a
reasonable amount of time to get back in to see my Doctor to work out a remedy for my
condition with her before moving forward on relocating my classroom. As stated, I would rather
resolve it medically myself than compromise my ability to best serve my students academically.
Furthermore, the solution put forth would simply not be feasible in my current instructional
environment, as I have highly heterogeneous classes with students in different science courses and
even different quarters of the courses. In addition to my being able to implement the district s
science performance task (lab) assessment currently under development, my goal has been to
develop self contained wet labs which are readily available for students when they are at certain
points in the curriculum. The items I only just unpacked would not fit into one of our regular
classrooms, and I am in the process of researching purchase requisitions. Therefore, if I am to lead
our alternative science program forward with the implementation of NGSS practices, as well as
content, I must have regular access to materials, supplies, counter space and a sink in order to
accomplish that, and I cannot be in two places at one time. I ve included the district science
TOSA s letter below for your records, and the photo of the space I am referring to. As I stated in

Drugs And Abuse Of Drugs
Drugs and Abuse Abuse of drugs can have effects on the user even after the use of drugs has
stopped. Different drugs produce different effects, depending on the user, type of drug, and
severity of abuse. New research is done every day in the area of drug abuse that makes finding
accurate results on the broad topic of drug abuse very difficult. From the most recent studies only
can one find data that is presently accepted as correct. These numerous studies provide enough data
to explain the effects of both legal and illegal drugs. To understand how drugs work, it is Important
to understand the changes that take place in different areas of the body when drugs take effect.
Found in the brain are the synapses, the interaction point of two neurons (Perrine, 1996). The
synapses in the brain are often the main target of a drug, altering the perception of something at the
point of perception. When a drug is taken, it attaches itself to receptors in the brain, which have a
pattern chemically similar to the neurotransmitters that send and receive messages in the brain.
Certain drugs can attach themselves to these receptors, they may become blocked, and the
neurotransmitters originally being sent by the brain s neurons are forced to wander around the
brain until it can find another similar receptor, possibly creating a false signal (Perrine, 1996). The
physiological responses created by these false signals, sent by both the drug and the extraneous
neurotransmitters are what

Cost Allocation Method
Cost allocation is a method to determine the cost of services provided to users of that service. It
does not determine the price of the service, but rather determines what the service costs to provide.
It is important to determine the cost allocation of the services, in order to determine a justifiable fee
/charge/tax for those services.
Included in cost allocation are direct, indirect, and incremental costs. Direct costs, or separable
costs, are costs that are related to a single type of service and are related to one type of output or
user such as, a sector to sector hand off. Indirect costs, or common costs, are related to more than
one type of service, such as, the physical en route facility. Incremental costs change with the level of

Cost allocating is used in sectors, private and governments, clearly in two different ways. In fact
most of the Universities divide both in two different classes. Government accounting and
Manufacturing Accounting. In the Manufacturing sector, cost allocation accounting can be used in
different manners; Companies allocate costs so that all elements that are part of that cost share the
incurred costs. It is like spreading the costs amongst those that use it. Companies allocate costs
merely to assign responsibility of those costs to either several departments within that company or
to just one department.

The Case Of Mcdonald s
The case study for McDonald s is quite intriguing. It made me realize that I as far as business
success rates I was really out of touch. McDonald s is huge in the restaurant industry, not only in
the states but abroad. However, it is quite interesting that this mogul is not always taken well in
new places. For example, in India the people are not particularly fund of the food and menu.
Originally, the numbers were high until a protest group came out saying that McDonalds was
using beef and pork in the food. The choice of beef and pork was unfavorable due to certain
religions and this caused numbers to drop. Furthermore, it caused the customers to lose trust in the
brand. A loss of custore trust can prove detrimental to a brand. The adverse publicity that was
incurred caused the company s number to drop significantly. In this same breath, the article
disclosed that all new locations were not disappointed with the restaurant items. The company
chose to put a location in China, which was a wise choice, because they now have over twenty
five locations in the country. Not only did China incorporate and embrace the organization, they
are the home of one of the largest McDonald s in the world. I think that McDonalds is using a
smart strategy when it comes to being a major player in the globalization market. The strategic
planning and marketing has proven to be quite lucrative for the company. The company is wise

Effects Of Being A Foster Care On Children And Adolescents

Cause and Effect Essay
November 16, 2015 Effects of being in foster care on children and adolescents Being in foster
care can either have a positive effect on someone or it could have a very negative effect on
someone. In my case, it not only had a positive effect but it also had some downfalls. Most often
times children/adolescents are placed in foster care because it is a safer environment for them to
live in. Foster care is positive in many ways. They are positive in being it can give children and
adolescents a safer home/environment to live in, it can stabilize the adolescent/child, and it can
give the individual a more positive look on life. Although foster care can have many positive
effects on an individual it can also have many negative effects. Foster care and being removed
from the place the child grew up in can cause attachment issues, mental health issues, eating
disorders, it can cause a child to become depressed and become more prone to drugs and alcohol,
and can cause lots of stress on an individual. When you are placing a child in a foster home, it
tends to be for the reason that the child was originally not in a good home. Their home with their
biological parents could have been with drugs and alcohol. Their parents could have been drug
dealers or constant drinkers or smokers. The parents may not have been able to afford the child.

Horizontal Integration Vs Vertical Integration
In the structure, vertical integration allows a company to take hold from start till the end of the
process. Usually, the vertical integration is seen in manufacturing process. Thus, in manufacturing,
vertical integration allows to control backward as well as forward process, right from controlling
raw material to the final step of controlling the consumers. The vertical integration is used to
expand the new operations in the firm. EX: a departmental store previously used to hire trucks and
tempos from outside for the transportation of the goods. Now, the store has expanded into new
operation, it has purchased its own trucks and tempos which as a result decrements the
transportation cost since it does need to pay outsiders for transportation.... Show more content on

companies goodwill is at stake when getting into acquisition merger. It sounds beneficial for
economies of scale. It increases its power and business in market sector. It is used in business
which are trying to invest in foreign markets. Seeing all the negative and positive aspects, vertical
integration is much better and useful than horizontal integration. Vertical integration is more
controllable as the expansion is within the firm only. Thus it is less rigorous. The collaboration
or merging act can be less controllable as the previous firm is now dependent upon the new
merged firm. Trust is the main key in horizontal integration as it can be a loss in case the other
merged firm can be fraudulent. In my opinion, vertical integration is best for the workers as it
enhances their skills and capabilities by expanding the operations and introducing new operations
within the firm. This implies that workers will be able to discover their core capabilities and
competencies within the organization, introducing them to new processes may realize their areas
of specialization which results in job satisfaction and they will be motivated towards their work,
which is better for them as well as the growth of the

Artificial Intelligence And The Turing Test
Every year technology advances and one of the most questionable advancements is artificial
intelligence. Artificial intelligence isn t necessarily new but it has expanded greatly the past few
years. I will first explain what artificial intelligence is and the Turing Test. Finally, I will discuss
Turing and Searle s views about the Turing Test and who has the stronger argument. According to
Merriam Webster Dictionary, artificial intelligence (AI) is, The capability of a machine to imitate
intelligent human behavior (Webster). What that means is that any electronic thing can perform
human behavior. For example, Apple s Siri, Siri is a component where you can ask your phone to

AI robots will greatly impact society significantly and not in a good way if used wrongly. Alan
Turing invented the Turing Test, as explained above what it does I will further explain Alan s
concepts about it. Upon completing the test, if the guesses are no more reliable than chance the
computer passes meaning than the computer thinks. He also believes that If a machine passes
the test it must behave verbally. If you deny the machines conscious you have no bases to
believe other people are conscious (class notes). According to Professor Jefferson in Exploring
Philosophy he believes the validity of the Turing Test is wrong, he argues that The only way by
which one could be sure that a machine thinks is to be the machine and to feel oneself thinking
(page 178). I agree with Jefferson because ultimately, we can explain why we believe it thinks but
we truly don t know if it is. Searle disagrees with Alan Turing, he believes that no program that is
purely symbolic can produce thoughts. That only biological beings can be conscious and that the
Turing Test doesn t prove that it is conscious (class notes). Searle gives an alternative concept to the
Turing Test by replacing the computer with a human and the program but making the symbols in
Chinese. The

The Effects Of Polluted Water In Developing Countries
It s no secret that there are countries that are more privileged than others. For example, here in the
United States of America having clean drinking water, garbage pickup trucks, health clinics is
something common. Like we don t even think about not having access to these things. In
developing countries things these things i just listed are more often rare than they are common.
The topic i will talking about is the effects of polluted water in developing countries and solutions
that can be put into effect to help change these circumstances.
So how does polluted water come to be in developing countries ? Well there has to be a source. The
main ways that water is contaminated are human and animal waste, lack of sanitation and lack of
laws to prevent water pollution. In developing countries it is a challenge managing waste
properly. One reason we talked about in class is overcrowding. There are large concentrations of
people that are living in small areas. Proper sanitation isn t always promised in developing
countries. So water is looked at as an alternative to dispose of waste. Rivers, streams, and lakes can
be feasible options for waste. Also developing countries can t always provide indoor plumbing to
everyone in the country so for people who are in poverty throwing up waste in water is the only to
get rid of waste. This can be a very big risk factor for catching diseases such as diarrhea and
cholera.Risk factors is an exposure that increases the chances of developing a

The Importance Of Raising The Driving Age
Did you know that 33% of teen deaths are caused by traffic accidents? Most teens that die in traffic
accidents each year are2 16 20 years of age. Should they raise the driving age, or make you hold

you a more experienced driver.
Teens drive less hours than almost all other drivers but they have the highest crash rates and
crash deaths than all other drivers. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens.
In 2013, 2,163 teens ages 16 19 were killed and 243,243 were treated in the emergency room for
injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. That means that six teens died every day from injuries
sustained in a vehicle crash.

I have a question for all of you to answer: When you got your learner s permit, did you drive all
the hours required to get your licenses or did you wait and fill them all out at the end? If most of
you were like me, you drove every possible day you could but that doesn t mean you got all of
your hours completed. A simple way to fix this problem is to make new drivers hold their
learners longer. I feel that another good reason to make people hold their learner s permits longer
is that it may help lower teen death rates and accidents which means more young people being
able to go home to see their families at the end of the day. If you have more experience driving it
helps you to make wiser and more mature decisions. You are then less likely to text and drive.
Texting while driving is more dangerous than drunk driving because drunk drivers are at least
looking at the road. I feel that holding a learner s permit for at least one year would help to make
sure that young drivers have the hours needed to be a safe

Besides this, another problem of Tata Group is the high involvement of Ratan Tata, who is the

both the negotiations of major deals and the details of his auto making, telecom or steel businesses

from the New World. With his departure imminent, the colony faced a dilemma. White and his

England in the smaller of the ships with a crew of about fifteen men. His journey was a

Chrysler Pacifica
The Chrysler Town Country is gone, replaced by the all new Pacifica minivan.
The Chrysler minivan is back. Not that it ever left, but the previous models were overshadowed
by the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. Not anymore. The all new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is as
good as any model out there and with its stow n go seating, it provides a feature that its competitors
simply do not match.
Model Background
The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica successor to the Chrysler Town Country a minivan produced from
1990 to 2016. The Town Country name was previously used on various coupe, convertible, sedan,
and wagon models dating to the early 1940s.
Chrysler resurrected the Pacifica name, last used for a crossover utility vehicle (or tall wagon) built

It has a 1,675 pound payload and provides 3,600 pounds of towing capacity when properly
equipped. The EPA rates this model at 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway for a
combined 22 mpg.
The V 6 engine is aptly suited for this vehicle. It is the same engine FCA uses to power such
models as the Ram 1500, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Dodge Charger. No boosting is necessary
just step on the gas pedal and the engine roars to life. I m sure some of the rumbling emanating
from the exhaust system is artificial, but at least the performance is there to back it up as the
minivan climbs to highway speed quickly and without hesitation.
How would the Pacifica perform with a full payload and pushing the minivan to its 3,600 pound
towing capacity? I never found out as four was the maximum number of people carried at any
time and I had nothing to tow. But at least the capacity is there and it gives customers something to
consider that isn t a crossover (Dodge Durango) or a pickup truck (Ram 1500).
The 2017 Pacifica rides quietly and road noise is minimal. On the noise, vibration, and harshness
(NVH) scale, this vehicle gets high marks thanks in part to its standard active noise cancellation
technology. It also scores well in the handling, steering, and braking

The Next Three Years Performance
In the research, the next three years performance is estimated by different stage. Generally
speaking, the first stage will be only the next year 2016, which is basic on the average historical
performance. The second stage will be 2017 and 2018, the growth is assumed to keep about 9.6 %
per year. In addition, all the figures in this part are calculated by Danish Kroner.
Basic on the last five years income statement, sales in Novo Nordisk will increase from DKK
107927 million in 2015 to DKK 134004 million in 2018. However, the operating profit might
decrease from 2015 and the operating margin will also decrease relatively. On the other hand, the
net income and net margin will rise to DKK 46900 million during the future three years. This is
because the operating cost in Novo Nordisk will has an unusual increase in the future, which should
be concerned.
As the graph shows, the finance situation presented a fluctuated change during the past five years.
It may has a stable growth from DKK 9933 million in 2016 to DKK 14928 million in 2018. Debt in
this graph is assumed only long term debt that is zero, which is the reason why the leverage is
zero during the past five years.
According to the disclosure of Novo Nordisk balance sheet, the book value per share has an
improving trend from 2011 to 2018, expect 2016. The cash flow per share will also increase in the
future three years. Although it is difficult to accurate analyze the reason why the book value will
decrease in 2016, it

Discrimination In Canada
There are numerous canadian events that occured in our history that we are proud of like; the
battle of Vimy, our independence and many others. Meanwhile, there are also a lot of tragedies and
traumas that happened in our past that we would rather not discuss like; the Indian act in 1867, or
the racism and oppression towards minorities that occured. Now, Canadais known for it s freedom
and its opportunities. People from around the world would immigrate to Canada to make a new
beginning for themselves, to get away from their nationwide issues in their own countries. Canada
would welcome them with open arms and offer them residence, help them get a job, and give them
some money to start their new lives. But what about the people who were here at the very beginning,

What is the government doing for them, in order to help them? The Canadian government s
promises towards the First Nations are being neglected. This research paper explores the
mistreatment of aboriginals to this day. This is proven by the government stealing the First Nations
land, also the government putting the aboriginal community into reserves, and finally the
discrimination that has and is still occurring towards the First Nations.
The First Nations experienced numerous traumatic events when the British invaded their lands. It
all started with the Indian Act in 1867. The British believed that their culture was superior to the
First Nations and therefore they should rule and have all the power. The British wanted to add
Christianity and agriculture to the indigenous population. So the government proceeded to create
the Indian Act which essentially gave the Indian handlers more power to civilize the First Nations.
The Indian handlers would now be able to manage the First Nations land, their money and
resources. The Indian Act was created due to the belief

The Quake After The Earthquake
the quake. I want my children to have a better life, he said. Mine is over. (Petrou). Augustin was
living in his car with his children and had no idea what to do. So where did Haiti plan to start it s
redevelopment? After the travesty millions of people reached out to donate money to help the
relief fund. These are the countries that just two days after the earthquake pledged to donate,
some with money and some with services. Brazil: Aircraft delivering water and food, medicine,
equipment, and a Search and rescue team with sniffer dogs, Israel: Two plane loads of aid and
rescue staff of 240, including 40 doctors and nurses to set up a field hospital capable of serving
500 people a day. Switzerland: A rescue team to arrive overland from the Dominican Republic.
India: $1 million in support, Venezuela: doctors, firefighters, and rescue workers are en route,
Sweden: $850,000, tents, water purification equipment, medical aid, and a team to rebuild the
U.N. s demolished headquarters and Cuba: 30 Cuban doctors have already arrived (Maltbie).
That was just two days after the earthquake. Many Americans donated through American Red
Cross and texted the $10. Over a year Americans alone raised $1.3billion dollars (Polyne,181). Of
that $32 million of it came from the $10 text messages. The U.S. government has allocated $4
billion; $3 billion has already been spent, and the rest is dedicated to longer term projects.(Connor).

Law Enforcement Officers Face Incredible Dangers Essay
Law enforcement officers have encountered some very deadly days. The life of a law
enforcement officer is one of constantly being aware of your surroundings, dealing with the
uncertainty of not knowing the individuals you have to approach, and being able to cope with
the visual images seen after vicious crimes. The life of a law enforcement officer, who protects
and serves, is both challenging and rewarding. The first law enforcement system was established
in Boston, Massachusetts over 350 years ago. During this time in the Colonies that were not
heavily populated, the sheriff served as the main law enforcement officer. During the 1800 s, 24
hour law enforcement service and systems similar to what is used today began to emerge
(NLEMI). Law enforcement officers face incredible dangers. With over 900,000 law
enforcement officers nationwide the Federal Bureau of Investigations reported approximately
1,165,383 violent crimes in 2014. Approximately one law enforcement officer dies every 61
hours (NLEMI).The law enforcement profession is the most challenging and dangerous career,
because officers must be aware of every law and action they take at all times, manage constant
training and stress, and protecting others as well as themselves in the line of duty. Law
enforcement officers must be aware of the laws governing the state they work in and analyze every
action the decide to take. The number of statutes and laws is enormous. For example, there are
more than 20,000 federal laws

The devil is a supernatural being thought of by Christians...
The devil is a supernatural being thought of by Christians as an entity of pure evil. However,
there is no evidence proving the existence of the devil, but there are certainly testimonials of
people who have claimed to see Hell. So lets hypothetically say that the devil is real. That would
mean that the horrifying testimonials are actually true, which may lead one to wonder why people
call themselves Satanist. Contrary to what one might think, Satanist do not actually believe that
the devil is something of pure evil, nor do they view him as an actual person. Satanists view the
devil as an actual deity or force that is to be worshiped. Surprisingly, people started claiming to
have sold their souls to the devil before the existence of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Even though structurally Satanists just like Protestants, were essentially a protest or a rebellion
against the Roman Catholic Church (Shirley 1). This doesn t mean that Satanist and Protestants
share the same beliefs, because they are completely different; instead, it proves that both of the
religions is a example of rebellion There are many ways to rebel of course, but what seem to be on
the news are murders . A recent high school dropout named Jose Reyes was on the news
February 11th of this year. Jose was a high school dropout out who was using drugs such as
marijuana. From the start, Jose separated himself from all of his friends at school, which is a very
antisocial thing to do. It is a proven fact that Satanic involvement is linked to antisocial behavior
(Swatos 161). However, before he dropped out, he already showed signs of rebellion. Another
younger girl claims that Jose Reyes attacked her, and raped her (lodhia 1). If Jose s parents would
have stepped in at that point, it would have prevented the second crime from occurring. Sadly, the
parents negligence of their own child only set the stage for what was about to happen. Jose Reyes
killed a fifteen year old girl with a buddy of his to sell his soul to the devil (Spellman 1). Not only
did Jose kill her, but he raped the girl and at the end of it all an upside down cross was carved in
her abdomen (Spellman 1). Jose Reyes is a very sadistic twisted person who was very aware of

The South China Sea
The South China Sea (S.C.S.) is one of the most politically tense and economically important
areas in the world today. Every year, $5.3 trillion of trade passes through the S.C.S $1.2 trillion
of which belongs to the US. The importance of the S.C.S. has led to increasingly strained tension
as competing territorial claims have sharpened over recent years. Tensions have developed over
the PRC s vague claim to the majority of the S.C.S. The so called nine dash line was originally
laid down by the Republic of Chinain 1947 as an eleven dash line has been the source of conflict in
Southeast Asiafor some years. In 1974 the PRC seized part of the Paracels from South Vietnam, and
in 1988 China and Vietnam had a bloody clash over Johnson Reef.... Show more content on

The US, the regions historic de facto power, has a vital interest in maintain stability, specifically
in regards to the freedom of navigation and free trade. Though each major actor has its own
goals and agenda, the US has the most potential to ease tensions and establish a new regional
dynamic that encourages a unified ASEAN and responsible PRC. Within the PRC there is a
strong sentiment that now is China s time to take its place as a major actor in a new multipolar
world. This is a key aspect of Xi Jinping s China Dream and a growing pillar of party legitimacy
as the Chinese economy slows and matures. A key aspect for China to be perceived as a hub of
power is to have the ability to assert its interest in the region. As such, Chinese policy towards the
S.C.S has been described as developing a sphere of influence similar to the US in the Caribbean
during the 19th and 20th century. The South East Asian region would be economically
interconnected through Chinese investment and development, creating demand for Chinese goods
and services. Politically, smaller states would have the PRC as an advocate and China would
insulate itself with friendly neighbors. In an effort to project its growing role in the South East
Asia the PRC has adopted a renewed and more provocative approach to regional politics with more
assertive stances on various disputed areas, including the nine dash line. By claiming the vast
majority of the S.C.S., or the land features in it, Beijing is

Don Juan Canto X Essay
Don Juan: Canto X is the tenth chapter of Lord George Gordon Byron s poem Don Juan. The
poem was written in London, England, or what is today known as Westminster, London, UK.
Don Juan is a controversial poem following the life of the titular character, unique in that it was
originally published anonymously so as to spare the author the expected backlash. Don Juan was
given a sheltered upbringing as a child, but as he reached adolescence he awoke to mature needs
and seduces a married woman. Rather than portray this sin as a grievous deed, Byron portrays it in
an almost comedic light and then proceeds to follow Don Juan on his increasingly ridiculous adult
adventures. This was a shocking poem that likely took aback the admittedly prudish English... Show

In this chapter of the storyline, Don Juan has spent some time in Russia under the hospitality of
Catherine the Great, earning a large monetary fortune and great social status. He writes to his
mother to relate his successes, but despite his alleged happiness, he falls ill for unexplained
reasons. A change of climate is recommended, so Catherine reluctantly sends him on a diplomatic
mission to England. He travels with his pseudo adopted orphan Leila and a group of subordinates
to reach London, impressing those he meets in various countries along the way. It is once the party
reaches London that Byron finally expresses all his critical sentiments against his hometown.
Byron first mocks the English values of respectability when he describes the state that Juan made
his arrival in: Juan, though careless, young, and magnificent, / And rich in rubles, diamond, cash,
and credit, / Who did not limit much his bills per week... (Byron X.553 554). Juan was acting as a
diplomat for Russia s ruler, so he must have been seen as a man of high standing among the people
of London. To this end, Catherine granted him a fortune and transformed him from a poor boy into
a wealthy young man. Through this development and the ensuing extravagance described, Byron
implies that men were judged in Victorian England

  • 2. Essay on The Great Railroad Strike The Great Railroad Strike In the first half of the 19th Century the working class in the newly industrializing American society suffered many forms of exploitation. The working class of the mid nineteenth century, with constant oppression by the capitalist and by the division between class, race, and ethnicity, made it difficult to form solidarity. After years of oppression and exploitation by the ruling class, the working class struck back and briefly paralyzed American commerce. The strike, which only lasted a few weeks, was the spark needed to ignite a national revolt by the working class with the most violent labor upheavals of the century. Railroads were the big business of the mid nineteenth century. The rail companies employed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this period, many Americans, and particularly industrialists and the emerging middle class, came to embrace the doctrine of laissez faire. The poor were so because they lacked ability and determination. The rich were comfortable because of their superior talents and thrift, argued supporters of a new ideology which turned Charles Darwin s theory of evolution into a new vision of society s survival of the fittest. As the rich became richer and the poor became poorer, it was realized by the laborers of the railroad that their nation s economic growth and prosperity was not being equally shared among the people. Coupled with years of wage cuts (35% over 3 years), and workforce reductions, that then required remaining workers to work 15 18 hour days, the workers fought back. In May of 1877 the Pennsylvania line announced another wage reduction of 10% to the worker s along with speed ups (double the work). At this point the workers accepted it. Then in July of 1877 the Baltimore Ohio line announced a 10% cut in pay. The workers questioned management, В‘how could they survive on these wages and terms? But the owners did not listen, instead they took the position В‘quit if you don t like it . On July 16, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, some of the workers decided to В‘quit and refused to work. Western culture is a body of knowledge derived from reason that began in Ancient Greece. There and in the Roman civilization it developed until the start of the Middle Ages when it largely vanished from Europe. During the Middle Ages, Western cultureresided, instead, in the Arab / Persian world to a modest degree. Today, Western culture has at least some presence in nearly all nations of the world. These casual sexual encounters among Malaysian youth have contributed to a social problem that appears every day in newspaper and mass media. From the period of January until July 2010, public were shocked, appalled, dismayed by the increasing reported cases of abandoned babies, some of whom were found dead. This incident indirectly indicated that something is wrong in our society. Statistics from the Malaysia Welfare Department from January to April 2010, reported that 111 unmarried young girls were pregnant. The figure, however, is just the tip of the iceberg as many cases go unreported and pregnancies terminated. It also reported in New Straits Times on 23rd July 2010, the body of a baby girl found in a bag at a bus stop near the Sultan Ismail Hospital, Johor Bahru in the morning. Also there a baby found buried. New Straits Times on 18th July 2010, reported that a fetus was found buried by the roadside in Jalan 12, Bandar Puteri Puchong, Selangor. As mention by the Dr Ismail Thamby in the Bernama on 26 August 2010, normally young people will not think of the consequences of their actions because they are easily driven by factors such as influence by pornographic materials on the internet, as well as they lack of religious knowledge. Analysis Of The Movie The Tv Series Californication American Culture can be displayed in many forms in a variety of shows, but the TV series Californication is one that expresses both the good and the bad parts about living in a modern society. Californication is about a self loathing writer named Hank Moody trying to repair his relationship with his daughter Becca and her mother Karen while simultaneously trying to fight his sex addiction, his budding addiction to drugs and the inability to stop making bad decisions (Kapinos, IMDb). • 5. Descriptive Essay On Beach Vacation My family has been looking forward to our annual beach vacation since last year s trip to Alabama. Although it has been a long, winding journey for two days, hauling through five states and having a personal concert in the passenger seat for fourteen hours, it was all worth it by the time we make it. Beach Boulevard is overflowing with giant houses, palm trees, stores, and thousands of other activities we are in a position to do. Everyone in the car is so antsy, we roll our windows down and breathe in the sweet, warm Alabama air. My eyes locked on my phone, I count down the miles until we arrive at our destination. Ten miles... Five miles... Three miles... One mile... Two Hundred feet... You have arrived at your destination, Siri informs me. Pulling into the driveway, not a single soul waits for the car to stop completely. We leap out of the vehicle, hugging my distant relatives from Louisiana and rapidly begin sprinting down to the water. My friend, Kambri, and I are flinging sand behind us, with the wind blasting against our faces. Finally arriving to the ocean, we stand shoulder to shoulder along the shore, taking it all in. Silently, we listen to the continuous, calming crashes of water, allowing it to splash up our legs, for the salty breeze to blow through our hair, and the rays of the sunshine on our pale adolescent bodies. I have never felt more at home than I do right now, in this moment in time. My extended family promptly begins to unpack the loaded vehicles. Opening the wide truck tailgates, there is not even room for a fly to buzz around back there. Stuffed to the top, the bed of the truck was full of over packed clothes, unhealthy sugary snacks, tubs packed to the rim with bottles of sunscreen, and of course, a plethora of sand toys. Us kids toss the bags at the top of the winding staircase, quickly scoping out our temporary house for the week. As we make it up to our room, we do not skip a beat unzipping our suitcases to find the superb fitted, blue bikini for our first day in paradise. Before any adult has time to summon us back downstairs to help them finish unloading the cars, we are out the door and headed down to the beach. On our journey down, we each grab our newly purchased, Aztec ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Qualities And Traits Of Leaders Essay 2The qualities and traits of leaders A number of leadership traits almost come directly from within. These are the qualities that might be harder to train, but which make leading other people smoother. Committed A good leader has to show commitment. Fulfilling your vision won t happen overnight and you need to be able to convince everyone else that you won t disappear when things get tough. If you make a promise, you need to keep it. You can t just preach about achieving A, B and C, but you need to show that you are actually going to do it. Commitment matters for two reasons. First, when you show commitment you help build trust. The team and anyone involved with the project will be able to trust your word. Trust will keep work morale up and help you achieve objectives faster since people don t need to second guess what your objectives are. But furthermore, the second aspect of commitment is about setting an example. As mentioned throughout the article, leadership is about setting an example and if you show commitment to your word, your subordinates will be inspired to stick to their promises. Using your own example of hard work, you will ensure the people around you feel motivated to do the same thing. Passionate Passion should be at the heart of everything you do. It doesn t matter whether you are a leader of a multibillion company or a lumberjack, without passion, you won t achieve success. You can understand its importance when you view it as the fuel to your truck. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Tartuffe Essay Tartuffe In his most notorious play Tartuffe, MoliГЁre relates the story of an attempt, by a manipulative hypocrite, to destroy the domestic happiness of a citizen who, charmed by his seeming piety, has taken him into his home as a respectable guest. The play was disallowed after its first performance because it was deemed anti religion. However this ruling was made unfairly since true religion is never confounded with hypocrisy, but is upheld with warmth, which shows his characteristic hatred of imposture in any shape. And they re the men whom I would want to imitate. On first seeing Tartuffe performed in Versailles, the King immediately recognized and appreciated its genius. He understood that it was strictly addressing hypocrisy, however concern about the play began to grow as its performance moved to Paris. MoliГЁre s adversaries claimed that under the fake motive of trying to expose hypocrisy, he actually sought to undermine the foundations of religion itself. Pressure from the opposition, which included the Catholic Church, the archbishop of Paris, the Queen Mother Anne of Austria, and the Company of the Holy Sacrament forced Louis XIV to ban the play in Paris. The argument could be made that The King s initial approval stemmed from the fact that Tartuffe includes patronage in the form of not so subtle flattery and references to Louis XIV and his family and associates, rather than the theme of hypocrisy versus sincerity. One instance of this being in the final act where the King s authorities come to arrest Tartuffe for a history of swindling people out of their fortune. There is no way in the world that a candle could light itself, it would need someone else to do it. The same also goes for Junior. He cannot make something of himself on his own; he needs the push and/or suggestion to make a change in his life from someone else. His parents letting him go to that school was like the strike of the match to light the candle itself. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her realization that love comes naturally, and no one should have to change who they are in order to be love by giving an ultimatum through the use of metaphors, imagery, and word choices. Fairy Tales Speak Trough Symbols Elham Shirkhani Mrs. La Rocca EAC150 CR College English 28 Nonember 2014 Fairy Tales Speak trough Symbols Fairy tales have fed the imagination of many generations during the centuries. Through these stories, the human s mind can fly beyond the reality and create new worlds with their specific rules and creatures. Symbolism is an intrinsic element of these creative stories. Fairy tales convey many meanings through symbols and consequently create a deeper space for their audiences. • 18. The Demise Of African Prosperity The Demise of African Prosperity: Effects of the Transatlantic Slave Trade The Transatlantic slave trade, a catastrophic event in the 15th to 19th century, affected millions of Africans and Europeans alike. Slaves were ripped from their homes and sent to the foreign lands, becoming the fundamental source of labour for mining and agricultural industries in the New World. Historians Hugh Thomas, Walter Rodney and John Thornton have contradictory beliefs about the effects of the Transatlantic slave trade on Africa. Thomas argues that the slave trade was beneficial to Africa, while Rodney argues a more negative position, claiming that the unequal trade lead to population loss and warfare. Thornton argues neutrally states that the slave trade was simply an internal trade diverted to the Atlantic. Although historians such as Hugh Thomas believe that the Transatlantic provided short term economic stimulus to Urban Empires, the slave trade was overall detrimental, leading to economic consequences and social and political conflict. The African Slave trade, as stated by Hugh Thomas in The Atlantic World in the Age of Empire brought an influx of European goods and employment, providing a short term benefit that was, in the long term, detrimental to the African economy. Contrary to John Thornton s speculation of Europe and Africa s partnership, Europe imposed economic dependency and involuntary trade on Africa, which deprived Africa of labor, impaired its development, and ... Different drugs produce different effects, depending on the user, type of drug, and severity of abuse. New research is done every day in the area of drug abuse that makes finding accurate results on the broad topic of drug abuse very difficult. From the most recent studies only can one find data that is presently accepted as correct. These numerous studies provide enough data to explain the effects of both legal and illegal drugs. To understand how drugs work, it is Important to understand the changes that take place in different areas of the body when drugs take effect. Found in the brain are the synapses, the interaction point of two neurons (Perrine, 1996). The synapses in the brain are often the main target of a drug, altering the perception of something at the point of perception. When a drug is taken, it attaches itself to receptors in the brain, which have a pattern chemically similar to the neurotransmitters that send and receive messages in the brain. Certain drugs can attach themselves to these receptors, they may become blocked, and the neurotransmitters originally being sent by the brain s neurons are forced to wander around the brain until it can find another similar receptor, possibly creating a false signal (Perrine, 1996). The physiological responses created by these false signals, sent by both the drug and the extraneous neurotransmitters are what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Usually, the vertical integration is seen in manufacturing process. Thus, in manufacturing, vertical integration allows to control backward as well as forward process, right from controlling raw material to the final step of controlling the consumers. The vertical integration is used to expand the new operations in the firm. EX: a departmental store previously used to hire trucks and tempos from outside for the transportation of the goods. Horizontal integration is better for larger companies rather than small firms, as the companies goodwill is at stake when getting into acquisition merger. It sounds beneficial for economies of scale. Seeing all the negative and positive aspects, vertical integration is much better and useful than horizontal integration. Vertical integration is more controllable as the expansion is within the firm only. Thus it is less rigorous. The collaboration or merging act can be less controllable as the previous firm is now dependent upon the new merged firm. Trust is the main key in horizontal integration as it can be a loss in case the other merged firm can be fraudulent. In my opinion, vertical integration is best for the workers as it enhances their skills and capabilities by expanding the operations and introducing new operations within the firm. This implies that workers will be able to discover their core capabilities and competencies within the organization, introducing them to new processes may realize their areas of specialization which results in job satisfaction and they will be motivated towards their work, which is better for them as well as the growth of the ... The topic i will talking about is the effects of polluted water in developing countries and solutions that can be put into effect to help change these circumstances. So how does polluted water come to be in developing countries ? Well there has to be a source. The main ways that water is contaminated are human and animal waste, lack of sanitation and lack of laws to prevent water pollution. In developing countries it is a challenge managing waste properly. One reason we talked about in class is overcrowding. There are large concentrations of people that are living in small areas. Proper sanitation isn t always promised in developing countries. So water is looked at as an alternative to dispose of waste. Rivers, streams, and lakes can be feasible options for waste. Also developing countries can t always provide indoor plumbing to everyone in the country so for people who are in poverty throwing up waste in water is the only to get rid of waste. Jamestown is considered our first successful colony, however it was not our first attempt at a colony. There were a few attempts to colonize the New World before Jamestown and one in particular that is found to be interesting is Roanoke also known as the Lost Colony. It received this name due to the fact that the colonists that settled this colony disappeared very mysteriously. This poses the question of What happened to the people of Roanoke? There are many different viewpoints of what occurred to the colonists and the goal here is to address each one of them. In England, a document signed on January 7, 1587, created... With his departure imminent, the colony faced a dilemma. White and his assistants all agreed that one of them needed to go back to England to secure additional supplies for the colony. The one chosen to go was John White. On August 27, 1587, White set sail for England in the smaller of the ships with a crew of about fifteen men. His journey was a treacherous one due to an accident at sea that injured twelve of his crew of fifteen , virtually disabling the ship. However, thought to be a perilous journey, White finally arrived with news of the city of Raleigh. But there would not be a return voyage in six months as expected. Spain had put together a mighty fleet of ships called the Spanish Armada. This caused Queen Elizabeth to order all English ships discontinue normal business and join the effort to fight off the Spanish fleet. Due to this and other mishaps, White did not get back to the city of Raleigh until August of 1597 which was three years later. Coincidentally, the colonist of Raleigh were gone just as the colonist of Greenville that were left before them. There are many different possibilities that may have occurred. • 41. Forced Vital Capacity Case Study Purpose and Prediction In this study I am observing the effects of gender on forced vital capacity (FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and torso/height ratio on forced vital capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in looking at the largest amount of air a person can forcefully exhale and continue exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as a person can. If gender has an effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC of females. If there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will FVC. If there is a correlation between torso length and FVC then the longer a torso the greater the FVC will be. If there is a correlation between torso/height ratio and FVC then the greater... Contrary to what one might think, Satanist do not actually believe that the devil is something of pure evil, nor do they view him as an actual person. The poem was written in London, England, or what is today known as Westminster, London, UK. Don Juan is a controversial poem following the life of the titular character, unique in that it was originally published anonymously so as to spare the author the expected backlash. Don Juan was given a sheltered upbringing as a child, but as he reached adolescence he awoke to mature needs and seduces a married woman. He travels with his pseudo adopted orphan Leila and a group of subordinates to reach London, impressing those he meets in various countries along the way.
