GLAAD is a media monitoring agency that seeks to promote and protect issues affecting the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

uniqueness of his many films. In one of his most popular movies, Edward Scissorhands, he reveals
his true potential as a filmmaker and a modern allegorical poet. Within Edward Scissorhands and
many more of his works, Burton uses a wide variety of stylistic techniques, including setting, point
of view, and motifs. In Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton uses the simple technique of setting in a
way that some would call genius. The setting of the dark manor of the inventor and now Edward
can be ironically connected to character and uniqueness. In comparison, the urbanized and ... Show

him one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This
use of motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many

conformity vs individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When

The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that
one has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably
foresee would be likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation
as sufficiently close and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the
development of the common law approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for
harms inflicted by third parties for whom the state is not responsible, can be seen to be
restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity of the party so harmed, and on the
basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public policy restrictions can be
found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a significant review
of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision between her
car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway

Energy measurement and management are amongst the major grid challenges and research efforts
have been geared towards addressing them. The emergence of smart meters in consonance with the
smart grid concept is as a result of these efforts. This paper explores the integration of Energy
Management and Control System (EMCS) technologies into smart meters to mitigate energy
wastages and ensure energy accountability. The integrated system presented in this paper leverages
on the GSM technology to provides a tripod communication between the meter, utility and the
consumers. Results from the system prototype show that the system offers the consumer the
opportunity to make personal energy budgets in line with the energy conservation, provides more
consumption details than the traditional meters and provides for the utility a better management
platform of the consumer component of the grid.

remember. Involve me and I learn. So, the question I pose today is how do we involve children
so that they learn? How do we spark that want inside of a student to because a lifelong learner.

connections. Having connections between prior knowledge, different subject areas, the outside
