The Importance Of Compliance Professionals
Compliance professionals are surrounded by emergencies
In health care, every day brings about a new emergencies and compliance professionals are often
tasked with assisting their organizations navigate through them. These emergencies can be as large
as a mass casualty event or a corporate catastrophe and as small as a patient arriving in the
emergency department for a minor sports injury. To patients and their families, no emergency is
insignificant, and requires discretion and privacy of patient health information. A visit to a hospital
often evokes fear and anxiety, not only for the patient, but also for their families and loved ones.
Each type of emergency may require a different level of use or disclosure of Protected Health ...

The Privacy Rule outlines only two scenarios where a covered entity must disclose PHI: 1) when

Recent events, namely the Orlando Pulse nightclub incident, have brought about additional

describing when covered entities may be permitted to share patient health status information,
treatment or payment arrangement with an individual who is not married or a relative of the

Medical Field Experience
I have been extremely fortunate to have had many experiences in the medical field. My
involvements include volunteering at a free street clinic, in a geriatric psychiatric department,
mission trips, and go so far as teaching basic medical skills to my work colleagues. Through it
all, I have learned invaluable lessons and expanded my skills in the medical field. With all the
times I have helped to provide medical care and training to patients, friends and colleagues, there
is one moment that shines brighter than the rest. I was the only emergency medical technician
(EMT) available during a medical emergency at sea, and was called upon to put my skills to the
test. It was my chance to help save a life in a dire situation.

Macbeth and the laboratory
Shakespeare s Lady Macbeth and Browning s lady in lab share common characteristics of
insanity as well as great ambition. The essay will explore dilemma faced by Lady Macbeth and
the cruelty expressed in The Laboratory . Shakespeare s play, was written in 1848, and set in the
11th century. The play was presented to King James I of England, and portrays one of his
ancestors, Banquo . In contrast, The Laboratory , is set in pre revolutionary France, portraying the
main protagonist as a schizophrenic womanwhom hallucinates over a mysterious unnamed man.
The essay will delve into mind of Victorian and Jacobean audience as well as looks at the views of
a modern contemporary audience. At end of essay, I will provide my opinion as to whether... Show

Browning s protagonist is a character that is the complete contrast to Shakespeare s Lady Macbeth,
who attempts to assume masculine qualities.
Many of the audience may declare that both women go against the natural order of things ,
especially in a patriarchal society where women are seen to be servile to men. This is a quote
from a fellow student in my class. Although both Jacobean and Victorian societies would be
shocked or fascinated (or both) with the idea of a female committing murder. On the other hand,
women tend to be more susceptible to paranoia as well as jealousy. I would argue that this is more
of an evolved, natural trait among women. In both societies, women are expected to suppress those
feelings, which may cause an element of surprise among the audience. It may also cause fear within
those in the audience whom have a partner, because it may arouse the thought of their partner
committing/participating in a similar act involving them. On the whole, however, I disagree with
the statement that Browning s protagonist and Shakespeare s Lady Macbeth go against the natural
order of things .
Although some would argue that, in a sense, Shakespeare s Lady Macbeth is extremely
courageous and very ambitious; I would argue that she has very clear characteristics of a
psychopath. In act 1 scene 7, Shakespeare writes I would dash my own baby s brains out, than be a

Define facilitating payments and bribes. Discuss the difference between them. Which are all
allowed and which are prohibited? Explain
A payment made by a citizen to a government official for expedite the process of government
facilities for who is entitled called facilitation payment in U.S. but in some other countries these
payments called bribe. These payments are extra burden on companies or individuals. Both
payments are not good as per ethics. This fee only applies when the payment if made to speed up
the government s action. There are several different classifications that can be considered a
facilitation payment and these vary in many ways. Section 162 C of FCPA act defined the bribe

1.1TITLE
The limitations challenging further integration of information and communication technology
(ICT) in Nigeria s secondary schools: An assessment through secondary school teachers and
students.
1.2REASON FOR CHOICE OF TOPIC
Over the past decade, technology has had far reaching impact on the way we live, changing the
way we work, learn, and communicate even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities
(Seifer and Mihalynuk, 2003). The role of ICT in education extends beyond service learning classes
and activities by providing more effective experiences for faculty, students and community
participants (Seifer and Mihalynuk, 2003).
The need for ICT in Nigerian secondary schools cannot be overemphasized. In this technology
driven era, everyone needs ICT competence to thrive (Adomi and Kpangban, 2010). Although
efforts have been made to ensure that ICTs are available and utilised in Nigerian secondary school.
However, the level of inculcation remains low (Adomi and Kpangban, 2010). Goshit (2006) found
out that most schools, both private and public, do not offer ICT training programmes. The Federal
Government of Nigeria, in the National

How Does Achilles Show Honor In The Iliad
In Homer s epic, Iliad, Achilles is one of the main figures of the Trojan War. Achilles beliefs that
he defines throughout the passage are influenced by the manipulations of war that he encounters,
along with a focus on what the idea of glory entails and the effects that it has on one s honor. They
are two separate concepts, he recognizes, and during the Trojan Warhe knew that he could not have
both. In the selected passage from Book Nine, it is clear that Achilles, the Greek warrior, questions
and reevaluates the idea of honor and glory, as he believes honor and glory are inherently
incompatible, thus causing him to sacrifice one in order to have the other. This reevaluation
emphasizes the abnormal attitude from a once fierce warrior and... Show more content on

Angry and calling Agamemnon a hypocrite, he states, I hate it like I hate hell / the man who
says one thing and think another (168). Strategically beginning his soliloquy with a hostile
accusation sets the tone for the rest of the speech. This tone and structure is harsh, hyperbolic,
and jumps between the two arguments from which he bases his response: He cheated me,
wronged me. Never again (170), Achilles declares, focusing on the loss of honor and placing
blame on Agamemnon. Just 29 lines after, however, Achilles switches his focus to the other
reason for leaving. Nothing is worth my life, not all the riches / they say Troy held before the
Greeks came... (171). This quick shift of focus is similar to a rant going back and forth between
arguments. His mind is not balancing on one thought, but rather driven by emotions and
rhetorical questions. For example, he brings up, why do the Greeks have to fight the Trojans?
Why did Agamemnon lead the army to Troy if not for the sake of fair haired Helen? And now he
thinks he s going to win me back? (169). This tone and these rhetorical questions serve to
exaggerate and humanize the argument. Achilles can only deal with so much he is only human,
after all, and must be treated like one. He is not Agamemnon s war puppet. The meaning and
purpose for Achilles rant is not muddled in the harsh and edgy speech; it is simply shown in
various ways. He will not fight for Agamemnon and is making it

Canadian Football Game Analysis
There were no Canadian teams in the playoffs For the first time in 46 seasons, there were no
Canadian teams in the NHL playoffs. The last time this occurred was 1969 1970 season where
there were only 12 teams in the league and two from Canada being the Montreal Canadiens and
Toronto Maple Leafs. The league has grown to 30 teams (and is in the process of expanding),
with seven of them being north of the border. Although there are only seven teams representing
the red and white, it surprising to think that none of them qualified, considering that last season
five out of the the seven teams were in playoffs (except for Toronto and Edmonton). Each team
had their reasons for why they didn t make it. Toronto s first season under Mike Babcock was
one to forget since they are in the rebuilding process and finished 30th overall with 69 points.
The Leafs also traded away star players Phil Kessel, captain Dion Phaneuf, and James Reimer in
order to start from scratch and create a new team identity. They are looking to improve after
securing the first overall pick in the upcoming draft and will most likely take prospect Austun
Matthews to help get them back to the playoffs after being out since the 2012 2013 season.
Edmonton finished one point above Toronto and are still looking to make it to the postseason after...

Comparing The Stereotypes Of The Gibson Girl
United States is the creator of many of the beauty stereotypes that are active until now such as
Barbie doll, Disney s princess and others. The first American stereotype was the Gibson Girl. It
was created by an American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson. The Gibson girl was the idea of
perfect women in the early XX century until the First World War.
The illustration had appeared in popular magazines, it not only had showed physical ideas, and it
also had represented the behavior and the social status of the perfect American women in that time.
Gibson girls had portrayed the new woman a women who was educated, taking advantage from the
access that women obtained to have secondary and college education; a woman who had more
independence.
The Gibson girl was illustrated like a Caucasian woman, tall and slim with a body in S shape
helped by the corset. The facial features were big eyes and a tiny mouth and nose. The hair also
was very iconic, Gibson girls wore their hair swept up into a twisted bun called chignon showing
the neck. This illustration had represented a woman in an upper social status, elegant and
fashionable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Cherokee Indians Essay
The Cherokee Indians
The American Indian History in the Eastern part of the country is always associated with the
Cherokee Indian nation. The Cherokee s were by far the largest and most advanced of the tribes
when Europeans first arrived and came in contact with Native Americans. There are too many
tribes to go over background on every one of them, so I m going to focus on the Cherokee s since
many of their ways and customs are so similar to all the other tribes in the East.
When Europeans first arrived in North America, the Cherokees occupied a large expanse of
territory in the Southeast. Their homeland included mountains and valleys in the southern part of
the Appalachian Mountain chain. Their

The Cherokees practiced a variety of crafts, including basketwork and stamped pottery. They also
carved, out of woods and gourds, masks representing good and evil spirits. These masks were used
during their many hunting, agricultural and healing rituals. They held these ceremonies at key
times of the year, such as harvest time.
Each village was run by two chiefs. The White Chief, or Most Beloved Man helped the villagers
make decisions concerning farming, lawmaking, and disputes between individuals, families, or
clans. He also played a large role in religious ceremonies. The Red Chief gave advice concerning
warfare. One such decision was choosing who would be the War Woman, an honored woman
chosen to accompany braves on their war parties. The War Woman did not fight, but helped feed
the men, offered them council, and decided which prisoners would live or die. The Red Chief was
also in charge of the lacrosse games which were called
quot;little wars. quot; Lacrosse was played within tribes and against other tribes. It is one of the
first known friendly competitions between Indian tribes.
Hernando de Soto was the first European explorer to come into contact with the Cherokees, when
he arrived in their territory in 1540. The Europeans were very impressed with the highly advanced
cultures.

Design Elements And Principles Of Art
This simple but intricate piece of art can be found on the walls of the second floor in the CFA.
Although the fan is fairly small and often times over looked, when examined, its fine detail gives it
character. This paper will address all aspects of design elements and principles. In addition provide
information about the artist and how their background influenced the art, and choice of design.
Line, Dimension, and Quality
The first thing that can be noticed about this piece of art work is the accordion (the span of a fan
when completely unfolded). Most hand held fans are known to have the opening with of at the
most 180 degrees, with some form of fabric or string holding each leaf (the individual slices of a
fan) together. However what made this fan different from other generic fans is that it was folded.
This implies that the artist spent time folding the paper back and forth with delicacy and focus.
The folds also tell me about dimension. Even though the fan was stretched out it was clear that
the fan folded where the creases were. I could tell that the hinges (where two leaves meet) are not
very far apart, which means if the fan was to be closed, it would be very thick.
Ironically the image painted on the fan, and the fan as a whole has some characteristic that would
fall into one of the four categories of shape. The most prominent would be natural and no objective.
The artist clearly communicates the scenery of nature.
The scenery illustrated on the fan is a great

Animals Treated Animals
Should animals continue to be treated as property? In the law they don t, but I think they should.
Animals are beings with emotions; therefore, they should be respected. Animals should not be used
in the circus because the animals in this are being incarcerated. They are being forced to do
unnatural things so they can avoid the animal abuse used in training. Trophy huntingshould stay
legal for the simple fact that this is how must wildlife conservations are funded. It s easy for us to
criticize them as inhumane, but how else can poor countries get the money needed to fund this.
Sometimes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Also, I agree that livestock are
raised to be eaten and should be, but I don t agree with the ways that we treat them. We should treat
them with respect both before and during slaughter. While animals in the eyes of the law are seen
as property, this does not mean that man should be cruel to animals. They are beings that should be
respected.
In a perfect world, circuses would ban the use of entertainment animals. When one buys a ticket to
visit the circus, they are contributing to animal cruelty. Circuses use violence to train the animals,
so that they can do demeaning acts. It is not natural for elephants to balance themselves on a ball,
or for tigers to jump through rings of fire. During all the acts, the training will stand off to the side
with a whip ready to beat the animal when they don t want to perform. Circuses claim that they

The Life And Work Of Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin, leader of Russia (1928 1953), created a Five Year Plan that included methods and
goals which were detrimental to Russian agriculture in 1928. Stalin wanted to transform individual
farms into large collective farms because he saw that the government was losing money to private
traders. This required that the majority of farmers would have to work and live together on large
state run farms. Through these farms Stalin hoped to increase agricultural productivity, to create
grain reserves for Russia, and to free many peasants for industrial work in the cities. In order to
begin collectivization Stalin had about 5 million wealthier peasants, or kulaks, deported and/or
killed and their equipment and livestock sent to collective farms.

Allan Bakke Pros And Cons
Allan Bakke was a man who applied to the University of California at Davis. He was a white
male, more specifically, who tried to get in the medical school. He was denied twice, in 1973
and 1974. He was angry because other people, with lower grade point averages, were admitted to
the program. But these people were admitted through the special program. The special program
was made for the purpose to increase representation of disadvantaged students. The screening
process involved the candidate s indication of what race they were. They could say they were a
minority group, or if they were economically and/or educationally disadvantaged. Then the special
admissions committee would see if they did meet the criteria. These candidates did not have to

California s special program violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. It
also went against Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because it excluded him on the basis of
race. The University defended themselves by saying all the pros of the special admissions program.
They said it fought against the discrimination so common in their society. They thought they could
reverse the historical statistics that showed minors were discriminated against in medical
admissions and professions. Also, they said their program would increase the number of doctors
who practice in less popular or undeserved communities. The last reason was that they thought the
student body in a whole would educationally benefit. They said the students would work better if

Sexual Promiscuity In C. S. Lewis The Screwtape Letter
Until the Time Is Right
Originally created for good, the devil has destroyed the idea of waiting for marriage and turned sex
into something that today s society flaunts flagrantly and openly with little respect for its first
intention. God created sex for marriage and the devil has deceptively convinced people that it is
fine to be open with things that need to stay between a husband and wife. This twisted logic is
ingrained in today s society and considered the normal and everyone is doing it, but is that logic
really acceptable? Long before sexual promiscuity became the social norm, C.S. Lewis portrays the
temptation to compromise God s best plan for sexual fulfillment in his novel The Screwtape Letters.

Food Additives Essay
Food additives can be found in lots of food that most people consume. Although food additives

The Ten Stages of Genocide by Gregory H. Stanton
Did you know that today there are still acts of genocide happening around the world? The Ten
Stages of Genocide is an article written by Gregory H. Stanton, the president of Genocide Watch, an
organization that is fighting to end genocide. In this article, Stanton lists ten stages that will occur
in a genocide, starting with the stage of classification and ending with the stage of denial. In Burma,
a sovereign state, also known as Myanmar, a minority ethnic group named the Rohingya is being
discriminated by the majority of the population and the government in Burma. The Rohingya have
been denied Burmese citizenship since 1982, when a law was enacted by the state government that
excludes the Rohingya as one of Burma s ethnic groups ( Myanmar Will Not Recognize ). There
has also been reports of ethnic cleansing, anti Muslim violence, and forced labor ( Plight ). Because
the Burmese government refuses to recognize the Rohingya Muslims as one of their official
national races and denies the Rohingya of their rights, the United Nationsand Gregory Stanton,

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Debit Cards
Debit Cards and Credit Cards may specifically and literally look the same but the uses, advantages
and disadvantages of the two cards remains and will always be different.
The debit card has been around since 1966, which means banks have had a lot of time to figure out
new ways to charge you for using your own money. The Bank of Delaware piloted the card. And by
the 1970s, several other banks were trying out similar ideas reported by the Kansas City Federal
Reserve (2010). The usage of debit card picked up in the 1980s and 1990s as more and more
ATMs started cropping up across the country. In 1990, debit cards were used in about three
hundred million (300 000 000) transactions. In 2009, prepaid and debit cards were used in 37.6

not how we consume certain media, but for what reasons. Different people digest different news for
different reasons. It implies that the reason we may me be more attracted to junk food news as
escapism of simply a conversation starter/mutual interest if the masses. In the interest of differing
trends and genre crazes of our modern society, media institutions create productions/front pages that
they know will attract an ample demographic. Akin to how Broadsheet Newspapers are slowly but

Social And Economic Issues Around Small Farms
Since the founding of America, the small family farm has been a pillar of United States culture and
economics. These small generational farms were known for molding very capable, independent
families that were known for their morality, strong character, and high work ethic. Urbanization,
industrialization, the growth of U.S. agribusiness, and other economic factors have slowly chipped
away at the presence of the U.S. small family farm. Technology and mechanization developed by
colleges, agribusinesses, and other government sponsored research programs have caused farm
supply to increase exponentially while farm demand grows at roughly the rate of population
growth. Most modern small farmsare too commodity focused to compete in niche... Show more

Many of these younger workers often see farming as an antiquated profession and relatively
unprofitable. The draw of higher education and the bright lights of city life are constant
distractions pulling them away from the less exciting rural life of farming. Without a generation of
farmer to replace the last many small farms are sold and developed commercially or absorbed by
larger commodity driven farms that surround them. Technological advancements have been a strong
driver of change in agriculture over the last 100 years. Technology is, in fact, the key force driving
the shift of farm activities off farms (Smith, 1992, p. 8). After the World Wars, mechanical
advancements were made at a rapid pace. Advances in mechanization and increasing availability
of chemical inputs led to ever increasing economies of scale that spurred rapid growth in average
farm size, accompanied by an equally rapid decline in the number of farms and in the farm and
rural populations (Dimitri, Effland, Conklin, 2005, p. 6). Essentially, the use of mechanization has
dramatically increased the supply of agricultural products while also drastically reducing the size
of the necessary workforce. The amount of capital used per farmworker increased 15 times
between 1930 and 1980, permitting a fivefold increase in the amount of land cultivated per farmer

Gentrification And Income Inequality
The classism that gentrification brings into communities cannot be understated, simply because it
is one of the negative driven byproducts of it, because when individuals are forced to see homes in
their respective communities go for 2 to 3 times the market value for what they were previously
going for, it sends the message that those within a higher income bracket are able to dictate the set
prices in real estates. Furthermore, this financial inequality goes beyond just the housing market.
Areas that have seen the wholesale installment of the businesses that stem from gentrification are
often overlooked and not taken in consideration when it comes to the prices set by them. It is
almost as if these independent coffee shops, Whole Foods Markets,

Stereotypes In Disney Fairytale Movies
Beauty If you did not grow up watching Disney fairytale movies, what did you watch for the first
decade of your life? Movies like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid have
captured the attention of young children since the mid twentieth century. A child s opinion on
gender roles and behaviors has been strengthened by Disney movies. Most young girls believe
their lives will be incomplete without a man to protect them from all evils. Women have always
felt inferior to men due to society s interpretation of them in major motion pictures and
advertisements. Society has started to realize its mistake on judging women and their ability to be
independent by giving women more inspiring and uplifting roles in movies. A movie which does
not focus as much on the typical stereotype of women would be the 1991 Disney fairytale classic
known as Beauty and the Beast. This romantic fairytale does not identify women as powerless, but
instead starts a positive trend of independence and intelligence. Beauty and the Beast wants viewers
to realize the importance of inner beauty rather than external beauty, but still emphasizes gender
inequality through the script and various songs. As any other Disney fairytale animation, the main
character is a young and beautiful woman. Belles name literally means beauty. Disney reinforces
the ideal form of beauty through Belle s tiny figure, blue eyes and brown hair. Her soft voice is
accompanied by the ability to sing beautifully. Women are

History Of GLAAD
HISTORY
GLAAD was formerly known as the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.[i] It was
founded in New York City in 1985 by Vito Russo, Jewelle Gomez and George Kolovakos.[ii]
GLAAD is a media monitoring agency that seeks to promote and protect issues affecting the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
The organization was originally founded in response to the New York Post s homophobic and
defamatory coverage of the AIDS epidemic, which was at its height in the 1980 s. Initially,
AIDS was closely linked with gay men within the American psychology.[iii] The first time that
AIDS was detected in the United States was in 1981, when groups of men in New York and
Los Angeles were diagnosed with Kaposi s sarcoma and pneumocystis pneumonia.[iv] The
media had labeled it as a gay disease. Based upon the statistics compiled by the Center for
Disease Control, the AIDS virus disproportionately impacted gay men at a time when
Americans had an extremely negative attitude towards homosexuality. [I]t was perhaps
inevitable that AIDS would be defined in political and cultural terms as well as medically, and
that many heterosexuals reactions to AIDS would reflect their attitudes toward
homosexuality. [v]
Thus, the coverage of homosexuals was extremely sensationalized and a topic that was not
generally discussed as a societal norm within the mainstream media. Nonetheless, due to the
hard work of its pioneering members, GLAAD enjoyed several early

The Role of Eve in Paradise Lost
The importance Milton attached to Eve s role in Paradise Lost and in the Garden of Eden is now
recognised and acknowledged. (Green, 1996) Milton s treatment of Adam and Eve s relationship
is complex. Sometimes referring to them in ways that indicate equality, (ibid) sometimes stressing
their separateness as individuals (ibid) and other times they are complementary halves of a whole.
(ibid) Taking on the view that many support; that Milton intended Eve to seem completely
inferior to Adam, we can examine Eves role in the fall. Traditionally, readers and critics have
responded to Eves actions with compassion and concern. (Revard, 1973) Two critics who
particularly react this way are Dennis Burden and Fresdon Bowes. (ibid) A.J.A Waldock has

If Adam had forced Eve to stay with him, he would have Eve s without free choice. This would
have tarnished the liberty of Eden. (ibid) Adam has tried to make clear to Eve what her
responsibilities are and what her place is in the garden. He has also warned her of the dangers in
the garden. Eve knows also of the dangers of Satan by overhearing Raphael talking about them as
in a shady nook I stood behind. (Levi, 1996) Eve is clearly at a disadvantage in encountering
Satan in an intellectual debate; however Milton does lead the reader to question the role of
intelligence in the poem. It wasn t the intellectually able angles the politically astute Beelzebub
and the rhetorically expert Belial (Revard, 1973 p.76) who unmasked Satan in Book V. Many
feel that Adam is guilty of negligence; however, others feel that he is merely an ineffective
leader. (Revard, 1973) Stella p.Revard goes as far as saying that God is in fact to blame. Since
refusing Eve the permission to leave would break the rules of free will then God is blameworthy
for having left uncompelled the wills of human beings in the first place and having permitted
Satan the opportunity to try them. (Revard, 1973 p.74) Is it only Milton s portrayal of Eve that is
the cause of so much controversy? In examining two different examples of the portrayal of Eve,
the reader can decide if it was Milton who created the controversy surrounding Eve, or if the

Election Of 1864 Essay
The Election of 1864 was important for many reasons, including the outcome of the Civil War,
Abraham Lincoln s assassination, and the first Presidential Re Elect since 1832. Abraham
Lincoln ran for the Union Party and ran against General George B McClellan and John Fremont.
Lincoln was very pessimistic about his chances of winning the Presidential race, as evidenced by
the memorandum he penned, stating what he would do in the very likely event that he was not re
elected. The victories in Atlanta and Cedar Creek boosted Lincoln s chances of winning
immensely. Lincoln eventually won with a 55/45 split of the popular vote and an electoral
landslide. His election eventually lead to the North s victory in the Civil War and the abolition of

The Constitutional Law Is Not The World Constitution
Writing in 1758, Emer de Vattel explained: The fundamental law which determines the manner in
which the public authority is to be exercised is what forms the constitution of the state.
Extrapolating this concept to the international political process, the bulk of the most important
norms which regulate political activity and relationships in the global polity could be called an
international constitution.
However, an international or global constitution cannot be gained by simply scaling up a typical
state constitution. The term constitutional law is preferred over constitution to highlight that this
body of law is not codified in one single document, but is dispersed in various treaties, soft law texts,
and customary law. The U.N. Charter is not the World Constitution. Global constitutional law is a
subset of international rules and principles which are so important that they deserve the label
constitutional .
Following the destruction and devastation caused by the Second World War, there appeared to have
dawned on the international plane a clearer realization of the importance of the fundamental rights
of all human beings and of the role of the international organizations in upholding and enforcing
them. It is interesting how the emergence and growth of India as a new state and as member of the
comity of free nations of the world coincided with the building of the United Nations and its
agencies and organs. Also, the drafting of the fundamental rights in the Indian

Rosalind Franklin Contributions
You look at science (or at least talk of it) as some sort of demoralizing invention of man,
something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from
everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Said
Rosalind Franklin, one of the greatest female scientists, in a letter to her father. Franklin is
saying that science should not be interfered by human civilization, but human civilization needs
and relies on science. This is significant because Franklin discovered so much for the human race
through science, hence what she said, science and everyday life cannot and should not be
separated. Though many might not recognize her name, Rosalind Franklin changed the world of
biology forever. Born on July 25, 1920 in Notting Hill, London, to a family that was jewish, but
she believed in no such thing. Rosalind Franklin was a very intelligent child; she excelled in
school always ahed of where she was supposed to be. By the time Franklin was fifteen she already
knew she wanted to be a scientist. She was taught at North London Collegiate school and went to
college at Newnham Collage where she studied chemistry. Moving on, Rosalind Franklin, was best
know for discovering the structure of DNA, but what most do not know she was did much more.
For example, she studied coal utilization, and x ray diffraction. She actually was the teacher and
mentor for Raymond Gosling who created the first visible x ray photo. With

Black Americans And The Black Freedom Struggle
Many have thought that the end of the civil war was also the end of the suppression against
Black Americans. However, real freedom hasn t been present to them. Discriminations against
Black Americans were transformed and still exist in other aspects. The life of a Black American
was planned before he or she was born, not much freedom in their hands. Black American
experience disadvantage and discrimination in many different institutions that all prove the
existence of Neocolonialism. From housing to education, formal and informal social controls
prevented them from equality and freedom. Moreover, Black youth was forced to be in the
pipeline of incarceration from school, because of the lack of resources and attention to them. In
this ongoing fight for Black Freedom, many influential Black leaders stepped up. One of them
is one of the most important figures in the Black freedom struggle history, Ella Baker. This essay
will first, explain key issues on Black Americans freedom in housing and school to prison
pipeline, then identify Ella Baker s theory in the Black Freedom Struggle, and finally define what
freedom means. It s the American dream to own a house with beautiful white fences and yard and
live joyfully with families, but not many Black Americans can live up to that dream. The hate and
prejudice against Black American didn t reduce much since the end of the civil war. I m not
prejudice, but I d burn this building down before I d sell it to any damned nigger.

Essay On Pan s Labyrinth
Film Review: Pan s Labyrinth
For this extra credit assignment, I decided to write a film review on the movie Pan s Labyrinth
directed by Guillermo del Toro, the movie was produced in 2006. Guillermo del Toro has also
worked on many movies with unique characters such as Hellboy and Pacific Rim. Although, Pan s
Labyrinth has a main character that is a normal human, you will see many unique characters in this
film.
This movie is based in Spain in 1944. A pregnant mother, Carmen, and her young daughter move

named Ofelia, she is fascinated with fairy tales and has a wild imagination that gets her into a lot
of trouble. One night, she meets a fairy and they go into a labyrinth and in the middle of the
labyrinth they meet a faun. The faun tells Ofelia that she is a princess and that her real father is a

and spooked when she ate the grape and the creature came to life. The creature was also spooky
because it looked like a nude mad with very saggy skin and it s eyes are on it s palms so in order
for it to see, It has to put it s palms against it s head. It was something I have never seen before. I

Comparison of symbolism of kites in the Kite Runner and Master Harold and the boys

Fugard and in the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossseini. Firstly I will talk about the
symbolism in both of the books separately. And then I will compare them to see the similarities and
the differences. The kite symbol has two different meanings. In the Kite Runner the kite
represents kite fighting and the blue kite that was the last opponent was the key to Baba s heart.

When Hally got to the top of the hill Sam moved down the hill a bit and held the kite up. The
reason of that was because a black man was not allowed to be in the same park as a white person.
Sam shouted Hally to go. This was the signal for Hally to run. Hally was impressed the kite was
flying and looping in the air. Hally couldn t believe it. At last he felt happy again and was proud to
have Sam as a friend. It works, Sam! We ve done it! This quote shows how Hally is now happy
again and Sam had succeeded in his job of making Hally feel better.
The kite represents sad moments in the play. When Sam and Hally were flying the kite they tied it
to a bench where they could sit and watch it fly. Sam had to leave but I wanted him to stay . This
shows that Hally wants to share his happy moments with Sam. The problem is that in 1950 in South
Africa rules were different and a black man was not allowed to sit on the same bench as a white
man. It was sort of sad to bring it down . This explains that the idea of the kite flying in the air got
him into a fantasy world and now that the kite is on the ground he is back in the reality.
Hally asks Sam if they should do it again, make another kite and enjoy the moments as they shared
last time. But Sam said No. You can t fly kiteson rainy days which mean you can t be happy when
you re sad.
In The Kite Runner the kite does not always symbolize happiness also it shows cowardice and
betrayal. It shows that

Tim Burton, Style Analysis
Tim Burton Style Analysis Film Essay
By John Visgaitis
Period 6 7
The well respected and established director Tim Burton has always been credited for the
uniqueness of his many films. In one of his most popular movies, Edward Scissorhands, he reveals
his true potential as a filmmaker and a modern allegorical poet. Within Edward Scissorhands and
many more of his works, Burton uses a wide variety of stylistic techniques, including setting, point
of view, and motifs. In Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton uses the simple technique of setting in a
way that some would call genius. The setting of the dark manor of the inventor and now Edward
can be ironically connected to character and uniqueness. In comparison, the urbanized and ... Show

Tim Burton has a unique spin on the traditional point of view concept that some may say makes
him one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This
use of motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many
recorded motifs that Burton uses, one of the most important in Edward Scissorhands would be
conformity vs individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When
Peggy first encounters him, there is a sort of irony because she sees that he is a loner, therefore she
thinks he is unhappy. But, as the story unfolds we see that it is Peggy and the other conformists that
are actually unhappy. The same motif of conformity vs. individuality was used in Charlie and The
Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka is a similar character to Edward not just because he was
portrayed by the same actor, but also because he chooses to set himself apart from the
mainstream to follow what he considers his legacy. Like Edward, Willy Wonka does not conform
to contemporary ideology. These characters are just examples of how Tim Burton uses the same
motifs in his movies. The way Tim Burton uses the techniques of setting, point of view, and motifs
throughout his movies, gives his works a certain similar feeling or mysterious mood. As a film
maker, Tim Burton seems to break some rules, such as the rule of using only one point of view
without clear transitioning. The radical

Modern Approach For Liability Of The State, And Public...
The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that
one has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably
foresee would be likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation
as sufficiently close and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the
development of the common law approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for
harms inflicted by third parties for whom the state is not responsible, can be seen to be
restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity of the party so harmed, and on the
basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public policy restrictions can be
found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a significant review
of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision between her
car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway
maintenance created a corresponding actionable common law duty. This claim failed at both the
Court of Appeal and House of Lords, with key rulings that: if a statutory duty does not give rise to
a private right to sue for breach, then the duty cannot create a duty of care that would not have been
owed at common law if the statute were not there. Lord Scott said that

Feliks Skrzynecki Analysis
The journey that comes when relocating from one country to another can be a significant challenge
for migrants through the idea of belonging. The notion (idea) of belonging is explored through the
dynamics between conforming to social influence and maintaining perception of self identity. This
is reflected in Peter Skrzynecki s poem Feliks Skrzynecki which highlights the struggles of
migrants, in this case, his father of trying to belong and not feeling like an outcast. Peter examines
how an inherent (existing in something) desire to belong to a group or community may have
caused them to deny aspects of identity. Peter s assimilation into the Australian way of life induces
a detachment from his father and his cultural ideas. Through

An Overview Of Energy Management Meter System
A Framework for a GSMSmart Energy Management Meter System for Effective Measurement,
Management and Communication of Power and its Data in a Developing Grid
Abstract
Energy measurement and management are amongst the major grid challenges and research efforts
have been geared towards addressing them. The emergence of smart meters in consonance with the
smart grid concept is as a result of these efforts. This paper explores the integration of Energy
Management and Control System (EMCS) technologies into smart meters to mitigate energy
wastages and ensure energy accountability. The integrated system presented in this paper leverages
on the GSM technology to provides a tripod communication between the meter, utility and the
consumers. Results from the system prototype show that the system offers the consumer the
opportunity to make personal energy budgets in line with the energy conservation, provides more
consumption details than the traditional meters and provides for the utility a better management
platform of the consumer component of the grid.

Now even more thanks to recent politics, people believe that immigrants are rapists and that
they bring drugs into the U.S, but they come in order to obtain a better life for them and their
families. Some are very hardworking people. Many immigrants are living in fear due to being
illegal because they are afraid of getting deported. Especially now, due to some of the

Integrated Thematic Units Essay
INTRODUCTION Benjamin Franklin once said Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I
remember. Involve me and I learn. So, the question I pose today is how do we involve children
so that they learn? How do we spark that want inside of a student to because a lifelong learner.
The best way to build students knowledge and thirst for greater understanding is by creating
connections. Having connections between prior knowledge, different subject areas, the outside
world, and what is being learned now and in the future will help students to achieve higher levels
of thinking, as well as, the twenty first century knowledge and skills that are needed in the
collegiate and professional words today. One way to make these connections is by using integrated

to volunteer overseas. Voluntourism can be defined as a form of tourism in which travelers
participate in voluntary work to help communities or the environment in the places they are
visiting (dictionary.com). In the context of Singapore, such trips are normally termed as Overseas
Service Learning Trips (OSLP). They are usually organized by schools to bring students abroad to
broaden the students world view (Poh, 2014) and serve the community there. I have chosen three
articles on the effects on Voluntourism. In this essay, I will be taking a closer look at the arguments
presented and critic and improve on the current system of Voluntourism. Firstly, a broad over

Many of the audience may declare that both women go against the natural order of things , especially in a patriarchal society where women are seen to be servile to men. This is a quote from a fellow student in my class. Although both Jacobean and Victorian societies would be shocked or fascinated (or both) with the idea of a female committing murder. On the other hand, women tend to be more susceptible to paranoia as well as jealousy. I would argue that this is more of an evolved, natural trait among women. In both societies, women are expected to suppress those feelings, which may cause an element of surprise among the audience. It may also cause fear within those in the audience whom have a partner, because it may arouse the thought of their partner committing/participating in a similar act involving them. On the whole, however, I disagree with the statement that Browning s protagonist and Shakespeare s Lady Macbeth go against the natural order of things . Although some would argue that, in a sense, Shakespeare s Lady Macbeth is extremely courageous and very ambitious; I would argue that she has very clear characteristics of a psychopath. The role of ICT in education extends beyond service learning classes and activities by providing more effective experiences for faculty, students and community participants (Seifer and Mihalynuk, 2003). The need for ICT in Nigerian secondary schools cannot be overemphasized. In this technology driven era, everyone needs ICT competence to thrive (Adomi and Kpangban, 2010). • 8. How Does Achilles Show Honor In The Iliad In Homer s epic, Iliad, Achilles is one of the main figures of the Trojan War. Achilles beliefs that he defines throughout the passage are influenced by the manipulations of war that he encounters, along with a focus on what the idea of glory entails and the effects that it has on one s honor. They are two separate concepts, he recognizes, and during the Trojan Warhe knew that he could not have both. In the selected passage from Book Nine, it is clear that Achilles, the Greek warrior, questions and reevaluates the idea of honor and glory, as he believes honor and glory are inherently incompatible, thus causing him to sacrifice one in order to have the other. This reevaluation emphasizes the abnormal attitude from a once fierce warrior and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Angry and calling Agamemnon a hypocrite, he states, I hate it like I hate hell / the man who says one thing and think another (168). Strategically beginning his soliloquy with a hostile accusation sets the tone for the rest of the speech. This tone and structure is harsh, hyperbolic, and jumps between the two arguments from which he bases his response: He cheated me, wronged me. Never again (170), Achilles declares, focusing on the loss of honor and placing blame on Agamemnon. Just 29 lines after, however, Achilles switches his focus to the other reason for leaving. Nothing is worth my life, not all the riches / they say Troy held before the Greeks came... (171). This quick shift of focus is similar to a rant going back and forth between arguments. His mind is not balancing on one thought, but rather driven by emotions and rhetorical questions. For example, he brings up, why do the Greeks have to fight the Trojans? Why did Agamemnon lead the army to Troy if not for the sake of fair haired Helen? And now he thinks he s going to win me back? (169). This tone and these rhetorical questions serve to exaggerate and humanize the argument. Achilles can only deal with so much he is only human, after all, and must be treated like one. He is not Agamemnon s war puppet. The meaning and purpose for Achilles rant is not muddled in the harsh and edgy speech; it is simply shown in various ways. The league has grown to 30 teams (and is in the process of expanding), with seven of them being north of the border. Although there are only seven teams representing the red and white, it surprising to think that none of them qualified, considering that last season five out of the the seven teams were in playoffs (except for Toronto and Edmonton). Each team had their reasons for why they didn t make it. Toronto s first season under Mike Babcock was one to forget since they are in the rebuilding process and finished 30th overall with 69 points. Most hand held fans are known to have the opening with of at the most 180 degrees, with some form of fabric or string holding each leaf (the individual slices of a fan) together. However what made this fan different from other generic fans is that it was folded. This implies that the artist spent time folding the paper back and forth with delicacy and focus. The folds also tell me about dimension. Even though the fan was stretched out it was clear that the fan folded where the creases were. I could tell that the hinges (where two leaves meet) are not very far apart, which means if the fan was to be closed, it would be very thick. Ironically the image painted on the fan, and the fan as a whole has some characteristic that would fall into one of the four categories of shape. The most prominent would be natural and no objective. The organization was originally founded in response to the New York Post s homophobic and defamatory coverage of the AIDS epidemic, which was at its height in the 1980 s. Initially, AIDS was closely linked with gay men within the American psychology.[iii] The first time that AIDS was detected in the United States was in 1981, when groups of men in New York and Los Angeles were diagnosed with Kaposi s sarcoma and pneumocystis pneumonia.[iv] The media had labeled it as a gay disease. Based upon the statistics compiled by the Center for Disease Control, the AIDS virus disproportionately impacted gay men at a time when Americans had an extremely negative attitude towards homosexuality. [I]t was perhaps inevitable that AIDS would be defined in political and cultural terms as well as medically, and that many heterosexuals reactions to AIDS would reflect their attitudes toward homosexuality. [v] Thus, the coverage of homosexuals was extremely sensationalized and a topic that was not generally discussed as a societal norm within the mainstream media. Nonetheless, due to the hard work of its pioneering members, GLAAD enjoyed several early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Green, 1996) Milton s treatment of Adam and Eve s relationship is complex. Sometimes referring to them in ways that indicate equality, (ibid) sometimes stressing their separateness as individuals (ibid) and other times they are complementary halves of a whole. (ibid) Taking on the view that many support; that Milton intended Eve to seem completely inferior to Adam, we can examine Eves role in the fall. Eve knows also of the dangers of Satan by overhearing Raphael talking about them as in a shady nook I stood behind. (Levi, 1996) Eve is clearly at a disadvantage in encountering Satan in an intellectual debate; however Milton does lead the reader to question the role of intelligence in the poem. It wasn t the intellectually able angles the politically astute Beelzebub and the rhetorically expert Belial (Revard, 1973 p.76) who unmasked Satan in Book V. Many feel that Adam is guilty of negligence; however, others feel that he is merely an ineffective leader. (Revard, 1973) Stella p.Revard goes as far as saying that God is in fact to blame. Since refusing Eve the permission to leave would break the rules of free will then God is blameworthy for having left uncompelled the wills of human beings in the first place and having permitted Satan the opportunity to try them. (Revard, 1973 p.74) Is it only Milton s portrayal of Eve that is the cause of so much controversy? Election Of 1864 Essay The Election of 1864 was important for many reasons, including the outcome of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln s assassination, and the first Presidential Re Elect since 1832. Abraham Lincoln ran for the Union Party and ran against General George B McClellan and John Fremont. Lincoln was very pessimistic about his chances of winning the Presidential race, as evidenced by the memorandum he penned, stating what he would do in the very likely event that he was not re elected. The victories in Atlanta and Cedar Creek boosted Lincoln s chances of winning immensely. Lincoln eventually won with a 55/45 split of the popular vote and an electoral landslide. • 30. The Constitutional Law Is Not The World Constitution Writing in 1758, Emer de Vattel explained: The fundamental law which determines the manner in which the public authority is to be exercised is what forms the constitution of the state. Extrapolating this concept to the international political process, the bulk of the most important norms which regulate political activity and relationships in the global polity could be called an international constitution. However, an international or global constitution cannot be gained by simply scaling up a typical state constitution. The term constitutional law is preferred over constitution to highlight that this body of law is not codified in one single document, but is dispersed in various treaties, soft law texts, and customary law. The U.N. Charter is not the World Constitution. Global constitutional law is a subset of international rules and principles which are so important that they deserve the label constitutional . Following the destruction and devastation caused by the Second World War, there appeared to have dawned on the international plane a clearer realization of the importance of the fundamental rights of all human beings and of the role of the international organizations in upholding and enforcing them. Rosalind Franklin Contributions You look at science (or at least talk of it) as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Said Rosalind Franklin, one of the greatest female scientists, in a letter to her father. Franklin is saying that science should not be interfered by human civilization, but human civilization needs and relies on science. This is significant because Franklin discovered so much for the human race through science, hence what she said, science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Though many might not recognize her name, Rosalind Franklin changed the world of biology forever. Born on July 25, 1920 in Notting Hill, London, to a family that was jewish, but she believed in no such thing. Rosalind Franklin was a very intelligent child; she excelled in school always ahed of where she was supposed to be. By the time Franklin was fifteen she already knew she wanted to be a scientist. She was taught at North London Collegiate school and went to college at Newnham Collage where she studied chemistry. Moving on, Rosalind Franklin, was best know for discovering the structure of DNA, but what most do not know she was did much more. For example, she studied coal utilization, and x ray diffraction. Guillermo del Toro has also worked on many movies with unique characters such as Hellboy and Pacific Rim. Although, Pan s Labyrinth has a main character that is a normal human, you will see many unique characters in this film. This movie is based in Spain in 1944. The young girl is named Ofelia, she is fascinated with fairy tales and has a wild imagination that gets her into a lot of trouble. One night, she meets a fairy and they go into a labyrinth and in the middle of the labyrinth they meet a faun. Comparison of symbolism of kites in the Kite Runner and Master Harold and the boys I am going to compare the symbolism of the kite in the play Master Harold and the boys by Athol Fugard and in the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossseini. Firstly I will talk about the symbolism in both of the books separately. And then I will compare them to see the similarities and the differences. The kite symbol has two different meanings. In the Kite Runner the kite represents kite fighting and the blue kite that was the last opponent was the key to Baba s heart. Hally was impressed the kite was flying and looping in the air. Hally couldn t believe it. At last he felt happy again and was proud to have Sam as a friend. It works, Sam! We ve done it! This quote shows how Hally is now happy again and Sam had succeeded in his job of making Hally feel better. The kite represents sad moments in the play. When Sam and Hally were flying the kite they tied it to a bench where they could sit and watch it fly. Sam had to leave but I wanted him to stay . This shows that Hally wants to share his happy moments with Sam. The problem is that in 1950 in South Africa rules were different and a black man was not allowed to sit on the same bench as a white man. It was sort of sad to bring it down . This explains that the idea of the kite flying in the air got him into a fantasy world and now that the kite is on the ground he is back in the reality. Hally asks Sam if they should do it again, make another kite and enjoy the moments as they shared last time. Within Edward Scissorhands and many more of his works, Burton uses a wide variety of stylistic techniques, including setting, point of view, and motifs. Tim Burton has a unique spin on the traditional point of view concept that some may say makes him one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This use of motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many recorded motifs that Burton uses, one of the most important in Edward Scissorhands would be conformity vs individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When Peggy first encounters him, there is a sort of irony because she sees that he is a loner, therefore she thinks he is unhappy. But, as the story unfolds we see that it is Peggy and the other conformists that are actually unhappy. The same motif of conformity vs. individuality was used in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka is a similar character to Edward not just because he was portrayed by the same actor, but also because he chooses to set himself apart from the mainstream to follow what he considers his legacy. Like Edward, Willy Wonka does not conform to contemporary ideology. These characters are just examples of how Tim Burton uses the same motifs in his movies. The way Tim Burton uses the techniques of setting, point of view, and motifs throughout his movies, gives his works a certain similar feeling or mysterious mood. As a film maker, Tim Burton seems to break some rules, such as the rule of using only one point of view without clear transitioning. The radical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Modern Approach For Liability Of The State, And Public... The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that one has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation as sufficiently close and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the development of the common law approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for harms inflicted by third parties for whom the state is not responsible, can be seen to be restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity of the party so harmed, and on the basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public policy restrictions can be found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a significant review of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision between her car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway maintenance created a corresponding actionable common law duty. This claim failed at both the Court of Appeal and House of Lords, with key rulings that: if a statutory duty does not give rise to a private right to sue for breach, then the duty cannot create a duty of care that would not have been owed at common law if the statute were not there. The best way to build students knowledge and thirst for greater understanding is by creating connections. Having connections between prior knowledge, different subject areas, the outside world, and what is being learned now and in the future will help students to achieve higher levels of thinking, as well as, the twenty first century knowledge and skills that are needed in the collegiate and professional words today. One way to make these connections is by using integrated thematic units.
