The Free Will in Meditations on First Philosophy by...
The Free Will in Meditations on First Philosophy by Descartes
I
In Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes takes the reader through a methodological exercise in
philosophical enquiry. After stripping the intellect of all doubtful and false beliefs, he re examines
the nature and structure of being in an attempt to secure a universally valid epistemology free from
skepticism. Hoping for the successful reconciliation of science and theology, Descartes works to
reconstruct a new foundation of absolute and certain truth to act as a catalyst for future scientific
research by showing that a mathematical [rational objective] physics of the world is attainable by
creatures with our intellectual capacities and faculties (Shand 1994, p. ... Show more content on

The will, at its most basic, consists in saying yes or no to ideas or propositions. Descartes adopts
the position that the free will is independent of the deterministic and fundamental laws that govern
matter. Human behavior is neither dictated by mechanical compulsion, nor persuaded or coerced
by God, nor influenced by any external force to act in a predetermined manner. Descartes, in a bold
stroke, proclaims the divine grace of God along with natural knowledge actually increases and
strengthens human freedom, as opposed to restricting its effectiveness.
As a thinking entity, Descartes is a consciousness mind aware of the potential to engage in various
modes of existence. To the numerous operations of thought he includes doubting, understanding,
affirming, denying, willing, refusing, imagining, and sensing. As varied and manifold as these
operations appear, they are but expressions of two principal types of conscious activity, to which
Descartes eventually traces the nature of error. Thinking and reasoning, together with all belief in
general, depend upon the operation of the twin faculties knowing and choosing, or the free will.
Garrett Thompson writes:
Descartes divides all thoughts into two kinds: ideas

Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement
The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the
People (U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would
provide appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in
government via public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the
people. However, American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote.
During the drafting period of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote,
however, voting rights have drastically changed throughout the history of the United States.
Through amendments passed over the past two centuries, the Constitution has changed... Show

Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base
of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study,
the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed,
vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned
(Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even
after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states
application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity
of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being
mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution
was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population)
had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and
machinations of checks and balances of power within the government have transformed the United
States into a government by the people, criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly
unchanged until recently due to power entrusted to each state to govern its people. By the onset of

Defense Of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional
Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional:
How the Supreme Court s Ruling on DOMA Will Affect Same Sex Taxpayers
Melissa Williams
Troy University
November 20, 2014
Author s Note
This paper was prepared for Federal Tax Research 6684T, taught by Dr. Kaye Sheridan.
Abstract
On June 26, 2013, The United States Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of
Marriage Act (DOMA), enabling same sex couples legally married under state law to be
recognized for the purpose and benefit of federal law. Section 3 of DOMA previously defined
marriage as the legal union of two persons of the opposite sex. This definition was challenged in
several court cases for violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The
Supreme Court ruled in favor of Edith Windsor in U.S. v. Windsor, declaring DOMA Section 3
unconstitutional and allowing same sex couples to be recognized as married for federal purposes.
This opens up several opportunities within federal income tax and estate and gift tax. Some of these
benefits include higher standard deductions and gain exclusion; opportunity to lower tax bracket
through combining incomes; and entitlement to the marital deduction, gift splitting, and portability
of DSUE. Marriage also results in tax disadvantages such as the marriage penalty, joint and several
liability, and refund offsetting. Taxpayers and tax preparers should be aware of the new planning
opportunities available to married same sex couples,

Among The Wild Chimpanzees By Jane Goodall
In the National Geographic documentary film, Among the Wild Chimpanzees, Jane Goodall
pursues her desire to understand and investigate the foreign chimpanzees as it was a study of three
generations on chimpanzees which was the longest study of any wild animal group in the world.
Jane Goodall grew up in Bournemouth, England and since she was a young child, she was always
fascinated with animals which enlightened her passion in investigating these chimpanzees even
though many said, You ll never get near the chimpanzees. Regardless of this, Jane Goodall s
approach to studying the chimpanzees became revolutionary as it allowed future generations to
further investigate chimpanzees. When the anthropologist Louis Leakey sent Jane on a mission

Data Collection Method
Research is defined as the organized and thorough analysis that is intended to answer questions
about nursing phenomena (LoBiondo Wood Haber, 2014). There are several different data
collection methods that are used when one is doing research design. For this discussion post I
will choose a type of data collection method and describe a scenario when it would be useful, as
well as potential pitfalls of the method. The observation method is a process of gathering data on
how people act under certain circumstances. This includes collecting data on verbal and non verbal
communication, behavior, and conditions of the environment. This is a great method to use when
collecting information on different cultures. I work on an ambulatory surgical unit and I believe
this method would be useful within my unit because we do admit patients who do not speak
English from time to time. This method would allow us to observe how non English speaking
patients and their families communicate verbally, as well as non verbally. We could study their
body language and how they act with each other and the healthcare team members. One of the
downfalls to this kind of method in regards to how I would use it on my unit, is that it would be
hard to realize what the patient and family members are communicating to one another, unless there
was an interpreter present. In conclusion, there are many different data collection methods that are
used for research. Many arguments in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Using bones, teeth and joints for reconstructing activity...
During an individual s lifetime the activities they involve themselves in impact on their many
bodily tissues. Markers for these activities are left in the bones, joints and dentition which is useful
for anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the case of most ancient populations.
Subsequently much research has been undertaken in this area with varying levels of validity. In this
essay I seek to explain what information can be reliably gathered from skeletal material, it will
focus on bonedensity and muscle attachments associated with heavy workloads, jointwear caused
by repeated processes such as grinding grain, osteoarthritis and tooth wear associated with tool use.
To aid this discussion I will detail the activity changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters are all fairly
short but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a
trend in the archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in
cross section (Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past.
Activities involved with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as
weeding, sowing seeds and the picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities
are mainly upper body activities and are more commonly associated with joint wear and
osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle attachments are the sites on the bone where
ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in individuals with larger than average
musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers used leg muscles in day to day
activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity more it stands to reason that the
respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. Molnar for example attempts to trace general as
well as three specific prehistoric activities: archery, harpooning, and kayaking that are likely to
have been performed in past populations from the Baltic sea area using assessment of

The Epic Quest For Oil, Money, And Power
The United States, once the world s largest producer and still its largest consumer, must import
half of its oil supply, weakening its overall strategic position and adding greatly to an already
burdensome trade deficit a precarious position for a great power (Yergin 14). So said Daniel
Yergin in the prologue of his 1990 bestseller The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and
Power. Today, oil retains its importance in the hydrocarbon societies of developed and developing
countries as a major engine of economic growth, but the story is not so simple. When Yergin wrote
The Prize, the United States seemed to be on an inevitable path toward instability and crisis as
domestic reserves, long depleted, forced oil imports and exports around... Show more content on

Comparing this to the world oil price in that same time period, there seems to be an overall
positive relationship between oil price and imports and exports. The price rises about $50/barrel
over three years until a sudden spike in 2007 2008, then drops dramatically before sharply rising
again (Figure 2). The drop in total imports and exports in 2012 does not seem to be correlated
with price, since there is an upward trend in price from 2009 2013. Aside from that year, it
appears that there is an overall positive correlation between total imports and exports of oil and
the price of oil, suggesting that because oil is an essential commodity, demand is much more
inelastic than supply. Thus, imports rise when prices are high even though it is disadvantageous
for importers because exporters are willing to provide a larger quantity and importers are less
sensitive to price.
To analyze whether this is true for individual countries requires further breaking down of the data.
The United States, Japan, China, South Korea, India, and Germany are almost always in the top six
for importers and Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates are almost
always in the top five for exporters, with the bottom half of the top ten importers and exporters
varying year by year. The top importers tend to be more static than the top exporters; that is, there
are only about eleven countries that switch up between the ten importing spots over that period

New York City Description
We stood hunched over and shivering in a small lobby, our clothes dripping on the tiled floor.
The tiny room could barely fit the both of us. It led into a restaurant, which promised shelter and
hot food; it beckoned us. I wrung out my sleeves and shook my hands to dry them. My mom
offered her phone to me, and I fervently started typing. We were huddled together in a tiny
vestibule, completely soaked, and helplessly lost in New York City. The day had started off
marvelously an early start and meet up with the bus that would be taking us. The ride up was
peaceful, ironically contrasting the day ahead. We barreled down the highway until the traffic
slowed to a halt. Car horns blared as they fought for entry to the city. I gazed out the window...

After hours of shopping, eating, and sightseeing we started searching for our final destination
the Rockefeller Tree. I d never seen it, and didn t plan on missing one of the great staples of the
New York holiday tradition. We had not a single inkling of where it was, or how to get there. We
found ourselves at a crosswalk surrounded by congregations of other people. The light suddenly
turned white, and people flooded the street jostling us every which way. Out of sheer
desperation, we turned left hoping to find some help or indicators of where the tree was. We
were met with the same row of shops we d just left we d gone in a circle. The rain had pummeled
us all day, and we were chilled to the bone. The rain kicked up again the torrential downpours
discombobulated us even more. I looked to my mom, and she returned my glance with a fleeting
look of panic. We looked for the street we came from and doubled back to where we started. My
mom pulled out her phone in hopes of searching for directions, but couldn t unlock it due to the
untimely rain. Mother Nature kept berating us as we searched for shelter. And now we re caught
up huddling together in a tiny room, our clothes sopping wet, our spirits disheartened, and our
bodies aching. Eventually, we constructed a route to the Rockefeller Tree that consisted of three
miles of complex intersections and meandering roads. In desperation, I looked to my mom for
guidance.

There are two basic principles that a system can be...
There are two basic principles that a system can be approached by; the continuous matter or
modular approach and the discrete matter or lumped mass approach (Holroyd, 2007). Generally,
when a mass can be defined as a rigid body or, in other words, when a system have a finite
number of degrees of freedom, it is more efficient to be modeled as a discrete (lumped parameter
system). On the other hand, when a mass is non uniform or, in other words, when a system have an
infinite number of degrees of freedom (e.g. because it includes continuous elastic members), it is
best to be modeled as a continuous (distributed parameter system). Furthermore, there are hybrid
models which combine lumped and distributed parameters and provide more realistic... Show more

However, the behaviour and interaction of individual components of an electromechanical system
is not possible to be examined with lumped parameter models. Finally, lumped parameter models
require modifications in their whole lumped model when changes in any system component occur.
As already mentioned, distributed (modularized) models are solved by a set of partial differential
equations due to all the dependent variables consist of more than one independent variable.
However, these equations can be homogeneous or non homogenous (inhomogeneous) equations. In
practice, the solution of a homogeneous equation with the appropriate boundary conditions
illustrates the behavior of the system after it has been properly set in motion and then subject to no
further force. In addition to this, the solution depicts the trend of the system to vibrate at a number
of natural frequencies. On the contrary, the solution of a non homogeneous equation depicts the
behavior of the system to specific forces (Holroyd, 2007). The forced damped method can be used
for solving the non homogeneous equation of motion. According to this method, the steady state
response to exciting forces is calculated by transfer matrices. Moreover, this method uses fewer
elements than the lumped mass approach in order to create a realistic model. This method contains
terms which are dependent on frequency, thus it requires the

The Six Principles Of Influence The Success Of A Business
Introduction
The global economy continues to grow in the 21st century based on the continuous developing
success of businesses. It can be argued that there are many important factors that will influence the
success of a business. However these two assets have been highly valued as they are linked to
organisational success.
1.Business Relationships
2.Reputation
Dr. Robert Cialdini is a professor who has spent his entire career researching the science of
influence and acquired an international reputation of being an expert in his field. (Cialdini, 2016)
Dr. Cialdini developed his scientific findings for human interaction, which he refers to as the Six
Principles of Influence. We will analyse if these principles have continue to stay relevant in the 21st
century s global economy. Business Relationships
What is a business relationship?
It is said that relationships are the fuel that feeds your business . It takes dedication to develop and
maintain not only a business relationship but also important to make it a successful one.
To be able to develop and maintain successful business relationships is acknowledged in practice.
However, this can be complex process of finding factual evidence in academic literature.
Why are Business Relationships important?
The importance of business relationships can take various different forms.
As a company, this is a great way for you to connect with your clients and customers.
Relationships with other companies are also

The Success Of E Business
Despite the dot.com collapse, there remains a strong belief that e business with its resurgent
potential for creating new transactional opportunities between firms, suppliers, complementary
product/service providers and customers will ultimately contribute significantly to the future
performance of many established firms. A number of impressive examples come to mind: Tesco in
the UK, Otto Versand in Germany, and Dell Computers and Cisco Systems in the US.1 For
organizations such as these, e business is more than a tool but part of a deeply held strategic

Both questions are of practical importance because they tap into the organizational reasoning that
takes place to explicate and justify e business applications. Unraveling this reasoning is also of
theoretical importance to the information technology (IT) literature in that it underlies the extent to
which organizational success is determined by strategy content and/or process.3 Although
intuitively linked to one another, the content and process perspectives have evolved
independently (see Rajagopalan and Spreitzer (1996) for an extensive review). For example, a
large body of content research shows that various structural considerations influence performance.
These antecedents are both external and internal to the firm. The former is defined by economic,
technological, political and competitive forces (Pettigrew, 1992) and the later by core
competencies (Hamel and Prahalad, 1994) and dynamic capabilities (Teece et al., 1997). Both the
external and internal schools of thought have been used to explain variation in IT related
performance (e.g., Porter, 2001; Wade and Holland, 2004). The process school of thought is
concerned with those activities leading to and supporting a choice of strategy (Huff and Reger,
1987) and its implementation (Thompson and Strickland, 2001). Explaining how strategy should
be executed is the role of process research. This approach seeks the richness of a more

Jury Paper The concept of juries dates back to the eighth century. Instead of it being an impartial
body of unbiased people, juries interrogated prisoners. It was not until the fourteenth century that
juries would start to become what we know them today. About three million people are called to
serve juryduty every year in the United States. On average only 1.2 million actually serve their
request according to the American Bar Association. A jury is picked from a jury pool. The jury
pool is made up of around sixty people. These sixty people are questioned and screened by both

Juries in other countries are not quite like ours. In the United Kingdom they do not have a grand
jury. If the judge or police feels that the crime is serious enough it is sent straight to a jury trial.
Other countries such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have started to adopt the concept
as well. Other than this a jury trial is set up relatively the same as they are in the United States.
Both sides are able to present evidence to a jury and the jury discusses and comes up with a
verdict. A former New York judge, Sol Wathtler, once said A district attorney could get a grand
jury to indict a ham sandwich. (Hans, 2008). This is because a prosecution is able to get a jury

court when a grand jury is in session, that is the reason the prosecution is able to present that

The bridge is a 45 second saxophone solo. The rest of the instruments play the same verse over
and over in harmony, with cymbals and stressed guitar chords on the accent between the verses.
All of this is played underneath the saxophone which is practically singing its own improved
song, which varies from hitting high notes in the register to low arpeggios in the lower register.
The saxophone plays call and response with itself, which leads the listener to believe there are
two saxophones, when in reality one saxophone is dueling with itself. During the bridge not only
is the saxophone emphasized, but the organ plays the bass line on higher octaves on the same
dynamics as the saxophone, so the bridge focuses on the polyphonic relationship between the sax
and the organ. After the bridge a sporadic drum fill opens up for the first verse of the song (A)
which is repeated just as the first time but more emphasized, especially the vocals. After the verse
the chorus follows, almost identical sounding to the first chorus just with more emphasized vocals.
The song then ends with an abrupt note, typical for jazzy

Boston Avalanche Case Study
A recovery effort to get the bodies of two missing snowshoers from Boston will have to wait
until Friday because of poor weather conditions and the high avalanche risk in Canada. Rescuers
have found the pair s car and tracks that go into the avalanche area, which is about two hours

Messenger Protein Synthesis
Genes are transcribed to yield one of three types of RNA. These RNA types include messenger
RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Messenger RNA carries the
genetic instructions needed to manufacture polypeptides. Messenger RNA is absolutely necessary,
because genes cannot leave the nucleus. They pass their information to mRNA, which transports
that information to the cytoplasm, where proteinsynthesis occurs at the ribosome.
Protein synthesis is the manufacturing of functional polypeptides in the cytoplasm. Protein
synthesis occurs through the process of translation. Translation is the formation of a chain of amino
acids by using the instructions a messenger RNA strand provides. This process takes place at the
ribosome. The codons of an mRNA strand carry the instructions in triplets of bases of the coding
strand of the gene. Each codon encodes a specific amino acid to be installed into the growing
polypeptide chain. During translation, the sequence of codons will dictate the sequence of amino
acids in the protein. The amino acids are delivered to the ribosome by transfer RNA, a fairly
small and mobile type of RNA. Each transfer RNA molecule attaches and transports a specific
amino acid. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quantity ensures that there is at least one tRNA for each of the 20 different types of amino
acids used in protein synthesis. Each tRNA molecule has a 3 CCA sequence that attaches to an
amino acid. Transfer RNA s are typically 80 bases in length. Approximately midway along its
length, the polynucleotide chain of tRNA forms a loop, called the anticodon loop. This loop
contains 3 bases that can pair complementarily with an appropriate codon in the mRNA. The
nucleotide sequence of the anticodon dictates the type of amino acid transported by the transfer
RNA. For example, a tRNA with the anticodon ACA carries cysteine, whereas a tRNA with the
anticodon AAA carries

The Great Recession Revealed The Financial Vulnerability...
Money Talk Introduction
The Great Recession revealed the financial vulnerability of millions of US households. In its
aftermath, researchers and policymakers have turned their attention to improving the next
generation s knowledge of personal finance and its access to secure financial offerings (US
Department of the Treasury 2014) (Margaret 2015). While current economic conditions appear
to be showing signs of improvement, 83% of American workers continue to be impacted by
personal financial issues ( 2013 Research Report on Employee Financial Stress, Financial
Finesse, June 2013) (Shele 2015 p. 67). The main reason so many people have personal financial
issues is because of the lack of knowledge that people have about the meaning of financial terms. If
you lack knowledge or don t fully understand financial terms there is no way that you want have
personal financial issues.

The Importance Of Rights In Football Rights
At any high school football game, football players take a knee on the field when either an
opponent s player or their own team player is injured. This shows respect; a gesture of self
surrender before the greater reality of human suffering . However, when it comes to an actual NFL
football game, taking the knee has a whole different concept after former San Francisco 49ers
quarterback, Colin Kaepernick took the knee at a football game during the National Anthem as a
form of protest against the racial injustice and police brutality. After the impression Kaepernick
made, half has argued that this gesture is unpatriotic and politics should be disregarded in sports
and the other half, including some other football teams, are with Kaepernick and agree with his
protest of police violence against African Americans. Although it was and still now a strong
movement, the reason behind it nowadays has become redundant and shouldn t be as relevant as
it is now. To start off, Colin Kaepernick started his movement last year around the months of
August and September. It began with him being seen sitting down during the national anthem
during preseason in August to him actually kneeling down in September; a start of a silent
protest. Kaepernick then later gave an explanation to his actions via NFL website stating, I am
not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of
color (SBNation). In other words, his reasoning for not

For this we use the US traffic fatalities panel data for the 48 US states (excluding Alaska and
Hawaii) for 1982 through 1988. We observe our data in 7 time periods (1982,...,1988), so T=7, our
data are strongly balanced and the total number of observation equals 336 (=7*48). We calculate the
traffic fatality rate that equals the traffic deaths in the corresponding state in that year, per 10000
state residents.
Panel Data
A panel dataset contains observations on multiple entities, such as person, firms, state, or country,
where each entity is observed at two or more points in time. A panel data set on individual wages,
hours, education, and other factors is collected by randomly selecting people from a population at
a given point in time. Panel Data methods are more complicated than cross section data methods.
For example the standard error of panel data estimators needs to be adjusted because each
additional time period of data is not independent of previous periods. (very technical for a basic
panel data introduction)
Some basic considerations
(Maybe here we should use words like: furthermore, also, in addition or just an introduction

First, panel data are usually observed at regular time

Meno Vs Socrates
In Plato s Meno, there are many arguments Socrates and Meno encounter. They never seem to find
a common ground and that leads to disagreements. The disagreements seem to never become an
agreement because not only does Socrates makes it so difficult to give a definition of a word that
he thinks is suitable but Meno is just letting him change his mind about his definition. The
argument does not just consist on if knowledgean opinion can be taught, they argue that knowledge
can be the only way to find correct actions, but opinion can also mean the same. Meno brings up a
question, What makes Knowledge so prized than correct opinion. Socratesanswers with an example
of Daedalus and when he uses a slave for example. That a slave will still... Show more content on

It s basically something that he or she may already believe, but just need to be taught in order for it
to become knowledge.
I belief that saying that a person can be taught to have knowledge is the same as saying a person
who already beliefs in a topic or subject has a opinion. Which we know that opinion can be
taught, but so can knowledge because you are teaching an opinion that soon will become a
piece of information in a person s mind and that is what the definition is for knowledge. In other
words, by learning an Opinion then they also will be receiving knowledge. Again like Socrates
explains what Daedalus had told him about how we all will always have knowledge but our true
opinion can be lost and maybe never be thought again. For a true opinion to stay in our minds we
need to practice and think about the idea or a fact and turn it into an argument. In conclusion, a
man or woman who has both knowledge and True Opinions one will only be stored in the long
term part of your brain and the other will only be stored in the short term part of the brain. His
and her knowledge with be stored in the long term memory because they both will need that for a
longer period of their life and their true opinions only are important in the short run of your life.
Having both are important because they both are needed for our life but they both have different
uses so they can t be considered to be the same thing if they

Sunset Boulevard, directed by Billy Wilder
Film Noir is a fairly self explanatory name. French for Dark or Black Film , this style (not genre)
of film is pretty much summed up in those two words. These films started being made in a 1940 s,
Post WWII paranoia, with the threat of nuclear missiles looming over the heads of all United States
citizens, Hollywood included. This paranoia led to disillusioned attitudes and existential feelings,
which in turn were reflected in Film Noirs through things such as characters, with the two most
prominent types being hardened male protagonists and femme fatales. Also, the Darkness of Film

Near the end of the film, Joe comes to his senses once more and ends up getting shot by Norma
for it, because she believes that a celebrity is a star because nobody will abandon them, which Joe
had been trying to do. In short, Norma is an atypical, yet at the same time great example of a
Femme Fatale in Film Noir. Perhaps the biggest characteristic in Film Noir is the element that
gives it it s name: the visual style. Whether it be a detective story, a crime drama, or Sunset
Boulevard s dramatized look at behind the scenes Hollywood, film noirs are all shot in a very
distinct manner. The lighting is often single source, making heavy use of chiaroscuro, a high
contrast between light and dark, using things such as streetlights or venetian blinds to convey this
visual style. The environments are often portrayed as gritty streets, wet from rain and illuminated
primarily by streetlights, or claustrophobic looking rooms with amounts of smoke that would
trigger any working smoke alarm nowadays, depending on the location, to get across a pessimistic
attitude. Sunset Boulevard, despite it s name which could be interpreted as a pretty sight, definitely
shows a darker appearance of Hollywood. When Joe first sees Norma s mansion, he notices how

The Terror s Origins The nation of France following the approval of the rights of man was a
country in great turmoil. The popular revolution had received what they had so desired, that being a

hinder the power of the monarch. A second revolution would take center stage and hijack the

The Role Of A Woman Essay
For years, all things involving power and prestige had been controlled and owned by men. The
role of a woman was believed to be limited to domestic responsibilities until the onset of the
feminist movement. The twentieth century became a time of social change for women that found a
voice in art via paintings, portraits, and photography. With time, women became more visible in
public life, and art became the reflection of not only their suffering, but their perseverance,
courage, and strength. Freedom from the stereotypical chains of society for women was the
message conveyed through the works of artists Alice Neel, Barbara Kruger, and Mary Kelly during
the twentieth century. Realism in art was a movement in which artists works captured content in a
natural way without artistic embellishment or implausibility. It was a direct reflection of what had
been observed in the world through lenses that granted audiences a true to life view. Though the
movement ended during the 1920 s, artists Alice Neel and Mary Kelly revived Realism to art
through paintings and portraits. Along with this revival, came psychological insight into social and
political issues of the twentieth Century, and move toward a different image of what it meant to be
a businesswoman. Viewed as the complete opposite of men, women had been denied education, the
right to vote, and the right to hold any type of professional occupation. Becoming educated would
have empowered women to participate in society;

Realism versus Pop Art
In this life, there are many forms of art or art movements to speak of. How we interpret art is a
very subjective thing. What a person sees and feels when looking at art greatly depends on their
upbringing, their values, and even their mood at the time of viewing. Could something dark and
lacking color be art? What about a comic strip in the newspaper or the billboard down the street?
Again, interpretation and taste in art is individual. I elected to explore into the two art movements I
like the least to potentially better understand them, and to potentially link them together.

Realism evoked feeling in its everyday life portrayal. Pop Art is unemotional.
Although Pop art was originally stated to come from the revolt to Abstract Expressionism, and a
jump off of Dadaism, my thoughts are that the similarities between Pop Art and Realism as
extensive. They are related in the fact that they both are based on everyday life scenes. While
Realism delved into everyday society, Pop Art did the same with the everyday mass media market.
Realism was a jump from Romanticism a fight of the unnatural belief that everything must be
romanticized. Pop art was a jump from Abstract Expressionism a fight of the unnatural belief that
everything should spark emotional thought. Pop artists in Germany are referred to as Capitalist
Realism artists and, in France, the Pop Art movement is called Nouveau Realisme, directly
translated as New Realism.

Question 1: How does L.L. Bean use past demand data and a specific item forecast to decide how
many units of that item to stock?
L.L. Bean uses several different calculations in order to determine the number of units of a
particular item it should stock, whether it is a new item or a never out item. The first piece of data
that is required is a point forecast for the item in the future period. This comes from the forecasting
department, and is based off of the book forecast and past demand data. For a new item, there is a

They first need to know what the cost is to make an item. They also need to know the selling
price of the item. From these two pieces of data, they can then calculate the profit generated from
each individual item (profit = selling price cost of item). The third piece of data they need is the
price if they item becomes liquidated. Thus, they can calculate the loss of an individual item if it
becomes liquidated. Using these calculations, they can use the methods mentioned in Question #1
to make a decision of how many units of a particular item to stock.
Essentially, we need to compare the costs associated with understocking and overstocking
inventory. The costs of understocking, as mentioned above, not only includes short terms losses
like the loss of the sale for that item at that time, but also include loss of future business due to
customer dissatisfaction. We must also consider that if a particular item is not in stock, the entire
purchase orders may be cancelled as per the terms and conditions not being met. The costs of
overstocking include the cost to hold that inventory but we also need to consider that it might
change if the salvage value of a product leftover depends on the number of units remaining at the
end of the season. If we have a lot of product leftover, then the liquidation value might be a lot less.
We have to take all these factors into consideration when making the decision of how many

Orthodox Jews believe that God gave Moses the whole Torah, the written and oral at Mount

Vampire Existence
Vampire existence
Almost each nation has legends about vampires that rummage people at night and drink their
blood. In these legends, vampires are brutal, heartless, half decayed creatures. For example, Slavic
mythology has a belief that a vampire won t get out of grave if you throw some corn inside. The
vampire will count corns all night long. But the image of a vampire has changed. Today it is an
mysterious sexy superstar that kept its peculiar traits: love of blood, hate for garlic, and fear for
the sun. In the Middle Ages the legend about vampires was complemented with the information
that they fear cross and Holy Water. I feel the same way; it makes people feel like there some
things as vampires but maybe there really are. I meant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don t try to take this stuff so literally, and do not judge these individuals too unforgivingly. I m
sure that there are several things that you believe to be true in the world, or even about yourself,
that these individuals would see as abnormal or strange. Believe it or not, there are individuals who
walk among us, who appear to be normal human beings and are actually are not. If medical science
can identify genes within the human race as mutations, and therefore, the people who have them as
mutations, or mutants, then why can t a subculture of otherwise healthy people call themselves
vampires.
According to an Indian lady Issabella, she said that practically every culture in the world has
some sort of ancient story about a blood sucking creature that relates to the vampire. India is no
exception. In fact, Indian mythology has several creatures that could easily be considered vampiric
in relation to the modern view of the vampire. Some match our modern description better than
others, but all play a role in vampire mythology. A malevolent female spirit called the Chedipe rode
naked into homes on the backs of tigers and drank men s blood through their toes while they slept.
This is indeed vampiric behavior, but the resulting effects have the man drained of energy rather
than killed or transformed. This behavior is much more closely associated with the Western
Succubus, than with the

Mary Poppins Movie On The 60 s
There have been many great films made between 1940 1960 these films have developed new
filming technology and editing styles. These films have also contributed to the wonderful of
cinema to help give people a feel going environment to hang with families, friends, and more across
the globe. As I search through filmof this early film era the movie that was most appealing to me
was Mary Poppins made in on the 60 s. This was a movie that I had always wanted to see but
never had access to film but thank to 21 century technology I was able to see this film for the first
time. This movie brought back a childhood joy which I had lost over the years as I entered
adulthood.
Mary Poppins was originally a book wrote by P. L. Travers in the early 30 s. This book would then
become a Walt Disney (and his partner Bill Walsh) film made in 1964 directed by Robert
Stevenson. Robert Stevenson was born in Burxton, UK and graduate of Cambridge University.
Roberts is also famous for directing other Disney film such as The Love Bug and Old Yeller

movies I think Walt Disney make a great choose to choose him to direct the this film because a the

seen when the actress Julie Andrews is interacting with penguins. Another technique used in Mary

Snowboarding is no exception. When snowboarders fall, they tend to fall on their hands, knees,
shoulders or heads , Fara Rosenzweig wrote in her article when she was telling about
snowboarding injuries and how snowboarders can prevent them. Knee and ACL injuries are also
a common danger athletes face. A snowboarder could easily twist their knees and ankles if they
land wrong or just twist their foot in their board. These athletes also have to be wary of pulling
muscles. Many snowboarders are very prepared when heading out to the pipes. They are especially
careful of fatigue, going too far over their limit, wearing the wrong equipment (or not wearing
enough), and dehydration. Snowboarders should always have a bottle of water with

Development of a Child s Imagination
Dr Montessori emphasizes the importance of the development of imagination. How do cultural
activities in a Montessori prepared environment aid in the development....
The ability to imagine is a unique human experience and deserves to be nurtured and encouraged.
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the development of the child s imagination and creativity are
inborn powers within the child that develops as his mental capacities are established through his
interaction with the environment. The cultural activities in a Montessori prepared environment
helps to foster imaginative skills in the early years which make significant difference in a child s
future development. The children while being educated are encouraged to imagine. This freedom ...

Children can also tell us a lot about themselves through their art. We can see emotions, interests,
and sometimes a child s personal struggles. It is a clue as to who this child is. The purpose is not
to analyze the child, but to get to know the child. Above all, be sure to give art to the child so it can
awaken a creative path. So that through his art he can enter a world of his imaginations which in
turn gives the teacher an understanding of the mental growth of the child. This in turn helps the
teacher to recognize and encourage those potential hidden talents. Thus the art works in cultural
activities in Montessori environment aids the development of imagination of the child.
Every cultural path has a sensorial base for the child. There are materials in the Sensorial area
from which the child builds a base for these other activities. From this base, the child will be
offered specific activities in each of the paths of culture. Thus allows the child to become a
participating and contributing member of his society. The Cultural Work is given so the child has
the keys to function in his culture. In Montessori environment, geography is taught as the study of
the life of man, the way humans live, and the way of life that has been established by a human
society to sustain life. It is the study of the land and water forms of the earth, and the cultures that
were developed in the various parts of the world by human beings. The needs of

Gradually this ritual became less appealing and was almost forgotten. The first nonritual
gladiatorial fight was held in 264 BC when the sons of Brutus Pera organized a spectacle in Rome
to honor their father (1). Following this event, the gladiatorial fight became more popular. For
instance, in 183, sixty pairs of gladiators foughts in the honor of a nobleman named Publius

of a public event (1). Like other games and religious ceremonies, hosting gladiatorial fights were

Calveta Dining Services, Inc. Jinu JosephPA1115 |
Abstract
Calveta Dining Services, Inc. was a $2 billion, privately held firm that provided food services to
almost 1000 senior living facilities (SLF s) in the United States. Antonio Calveta, the founder of
Calveta Dining retired in 2007 after 35 years of leadership and he named his eldest son Frank as
the new CEO and told him to double the company s revenues within a space of 5 years. The
dilemma that Frank was facing was that even after 2 years into this job of his he did not have
any credible strategies to fulfill his father s promise or to attain aggressive growth as his father
wanted. Calveta Dining Services owed its success to Antonio Calveta s passion for food, traditional

2. The financial challenges of getting into the hospital segment was there but it was always
achievable. 3. The greatest positive to Calveta Dining Services was the working culture by which
they could prosper in any segment.
Interpretation
The interpretation that can be derived from the above analysis is that it would be better for Frank
to think about diversifying the business rather than acquiring GSD. Even Frank knew that it was a
huge risk to acquire GSD considering the heavy debt the business would be in after the acquisition,
besides Calveta Dining would find it difficult to train GSD employees to the work culture of
Calveta Dining. Frank should not make this decision only with the purpose of meeting his father s
goal because this may harm the firm in the long run. Frank had his own problems organizational
restructuring to do for Calveta Dining and in such a circumstance if Frank acquired GSD then his
problem woul grow from bad to worse because it would not be an easy task to change the entire
work culture of GSD within a short span of time, and apart from the debts of acquiring GSD Frank
would also need to generate funds for the training of the staff teaching them Antonio s way. The
reason for a few customer dissatisfaction was in the the promotion from within

The Free Will in Meditations on First Philosophy by Descartes I In Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes takes the reader through a methodological exercise in philosophical enquiry. After stripping the intellect of all doubtful and false beliefs, he re examines the nature and structure of being in an attempt to secure a universally valid epistemology free from skepticism. Hoping for the successful reconciliation of science and theology, Descartes works to reconstruct a new foundation of absolute and certain truth to act as a catalyst for future scientific research by showing that a mathematical [rational objective] physics of the world is attainable by creatures with our intellectual capacities and faculties (Shand 1994, p. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... II The will, at its most basic, consists in saying yes or no to ideas or propositions. Descartes adopts the position that the free will is independent of the deterministic and fundamental laws that govern matter. Human behavior is neither dictated by mechanical compulsion, nor persuaded or coerced by God, nor influenced by any external force to act in a predetermined manner. Descartes, in a bold stroke, proclaims the divine grace of God along with natural knowledge actually increases and strengthens human freedom, as opposed to restricting its effectiveness. As a thinking entity, Descartes is a consciousness mind aware of the potential to engage in various modes of existence. To the numerous operations of thought he includes doubting, understanding, affirming, denying, willing, refusing, imagining, and sensing. As varied and manifold as these operations appear, they are but expressions of two principal types of conscious activity, to which Descartes eventually traces the nature of error. Thinking and reasoning, together with all belief in general, depend upon the operation of the twin faculties knowing and choosing, or the free will. Garrett Thompson writes: Descartes divides all thoughts into two kinds: ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the People (U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would provide appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in government via public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the people. However, American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote. During the drafting period of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote, however, voting rights have drastically changed throughout the history of the United States. Through amendments passed over the past two centuries, the Constitution has changed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people, criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted to each state to govern its people. By the onset of the Civil War ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Defense Of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act Ruled Unconstitutional: How the Supreme Court s Ruling on DOMA Will Affect Same Sex Taxpayers Melissa Williams Troy University November 20, 2014 Author s Note This paper was prepared for Federal Tax Research 6684T, taught by Dr. Kaye Sheridan. Abstract On June 26, 2013, The United States Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), enabling same sex couples legally married under state law to be recognized for the purpose and benefit of federal law. Section 3 of DOMA previously defined marriage as the legal union of two persons of the opposite sex. This definition was challenged in several court cases for violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Edith Windsor in U.S. v. Windsor, declaring DOMA Section 3 unconstitutional and allowing same sex couples to be recognized as married for federal purposes. This opens up several opportunities within federal income tax and estate and gift tax. Some of these benefits include higher standard deductions and gain exclusion; opportunity to lower tax bracket through combining incomes; and entitlement to the marital deduction, gift splitting, and portability of DSUE. Marriage also results in tax disadvantages such as the marriage penalty, joint and several liability, and refund offsetting. Taxpayers and tax preparers should be aware of the new planning opportunities available to married same sex couples, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jane Goodall grew up in Bournemouth, England and since she was a young child, she was always fascinated with animals which enlightened her passion in investigating these chimpanzees even though many said, You ll never get near the chimpanzees. • 6. Data Collection Method Research is defined as the organized and thorough analysis that is intended to answer questions about nursing phenomena (LoBiondo Wood Haber, 2014). There are several different data collection methods that are used when one is doing research design. For this discussion post I will choose a type of data collection method and describe a scenario when it would be useful, as well as potential pitfalls of the method. The observation method is a process of gathering data on how people act under certain circumstances. This includes collecting data on verbal and non verbal communication, behavior, and conditions of the environment. This is a great method to use when collecting information on different cultures. I work on an ambulatory surgical unit and I believe this method would be useful within my unit because we do admit patients who do not speak English from time to time. This method would allow us to observe how non English speaking patients and their families communicate verbally, as well as non verbally. We could study their body language and how they act with each other and the healthcare team members. One of the downfalls to this kind of method in regards to how I would use it on my unit, is that it would be hard to realize what the patient and family members are communicating to one another, unless there was an interpreter present. In conclusion, there are many different data collection methods that are used for research. Many arguments in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2014). Markers for these activities are left in the bones, joints and dentition which is useful for anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the case of most ancient populations. Subsequently much research has been undertaken in this area with varying levels of validity. In this essay I seek to explain what information can be reliably gathered from skeletal material, it will focus on bonedensity and muscle attachments associated with heavy workloads, jointwear caused by repeated processes such as grinding grain, osteoarthritis and tooth wear associated with tool use. To aid this discussion I will detail the activity changes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters are all fairly short but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a trend in the archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section (Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing seeds and the picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are mainly upper body activities and are more commonly associated with joint wear and osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle attachments are the sites on the bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in individuals with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity more it stands to reason that the respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. Molnar for example attempts to trace general as well as three specific prehistoric activities: archery, harpooning, and kayaking that are likely to have been performed in past populations from the Baltic sea area using assessment of ... The Epic Quest For Oil, Money, And Power The United States, once the world s largest producer and still its largest consumer, must import half of its oil supply, weakening its overall strategic position and adding greatly to an already burdensome trade deficit a precarious position for a great power (Yergin 14). So said Daniel Yergin in the prologue of his 1990 bestseller The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power. Today, oil retains its importance in the hydrocarbon societies of developed and developing countries as a major engine of economic growth, but the story is not so simple. When Yergin wrote The Prize, the United States seemed to be on an inevitable path toward instability and crisis as domestic reserves, long depleted, forced oil imports and exports around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing this to the world oil price in that same time period, there seems to be an overall positive relationship between oil price and imports and exports. The price rises about $50/barrel over three years until a sudden spike in 2007 2008, then drops dramatically before sharply rising again (Figure 2). The drop in total imports and exports in 2012 does not seem to be correlated with price, since there is an upward trend in price from 2009 2013. Aside from that year, it appears that there is an overall positive correlation between total imports and exports of oil and the price of oil, suggesting that because oil is an essential commodity, demand is much more inelastic than supply. Thus, imports rise when prices are high even though it is disadvantageous for importers because exporters are willing to provide a larger quantity and importers are less sensitive to price. To analyze whether this is true for individual countries requires further breaking down of the data. The United States, Japan, China, South Korea, India, and Germany are almost always in the top six for importers and Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran, Nigeria, and the United Arab Emirates are almost always in the top five for exporters, with the bottom half of the top ten importers and exporters varying year by year. The top importers tend to be more static than the top exporters; that is, there are only about eleven countries that switch up between the ten importing spots over that period whereas ... It led into a restaurant, which promised shelter and hot food; it beckoned us. I wrung out my sleeves and shook my hands to dry them. My mom offered her phone to me, and I fervently started typing. The day had started off marvelously an early start and meet up with the bus that would be taking us. The ride up was peaceful, ironically contrasting the day ahead. We found ourselves at a crosswalk surrounded by congregations of other people. The light suddenly turned white, and people flooded the street jostling us every which way. Out of sheer desperation, we turned left hoping to find some help or indicators of where the tree was. We were met with the same row of shops we d just left we d gone in a circle. • 10. There are two basic principles that a system can be... There are two basic principles that a system can be approached by; the continuous matter or modular approach and the discrete matter or lumped mass approach (Holroyd, 2007). Generally, when a mass can be defined as a rigid body or, in other words, when a system have a finite number of degrees of freedom, it is more efficient to be modeled as a discrete (lumped parameter system). On the other hand, when a mass is non uniform or, in other words, when a system have an infinite number of degrees of freedom (e.g. because it includes continuous elastic members), it is best to be modeled as a continuous (distributed parameter system). Furthermore, there are hybrid models which combine lumped and distributed parameters and provide more realistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the behaviour and interaction of individual components of an electromechanical system is not possible to be examined with lumped parameter models. Finally, lumped parameter models require modifications in their whole lumped model when changes in any system component occur. As already mentioned, distributed (modularized) models are solved by a set of partial differential equations due to all the dependent variables consist of more than one independent variable. However, these equations can be homogeneous or non homogenous (inhomogeneous) equations. In practice, the solution of a homogeneous equation with the appropriate boundary conditions illustrates the behavior of the system after it has been properly set in motion and then subject to no further force. In addition to this, the solution depicts the trend of the system to vibrate at a number of natural frequencies. On the contrary, the solution of a non homogeneous equation depicts the behavior of the system to specific forces (Holroyd, 2007). The forced damped method can be used for solving the non homogeneous equation of motion. According to this method, the steady state response to exciting forces is calculated by transfer matrices. Moreover, this method uses fewer elements than the lumped mass approach in order to create a realistic model. This method contains terms which are dependent on frequency, thus it requires the ... • 11. The Six Principles Of Influence The Success Of A Business Introduction The global economy continues to grow in the 21st century based on the continuous developing success of businesses. It can be argued that there are many important factors that will influence the success of a business. However these two assets have been highly valued as they are linked to organisational success. 1.Business Relationships 2.Reputation Dr. Robert Cialdini is a professor who has spent his entire career researching the science of influence and acquired an international reputation of being an expert in his field. (Cialdini, 2016) Dr. Cialdini developed his scientific findings for human interaction, which he refers to as the Six Principles of Influence. We will analyse if these principles have continue to stay relevant in the 21st century s global economy. Business Relationships What is a business relationship? It is said that relationships are the fuel that feeds your business . It takes dedication to develop and maintain not only a business relationship but also important to make it a successful one. To be able to develop and maintain successful business relationships is acknowledged in practice. However, this can be complex process of finding factual evidence in academic literature. Why are Business Relationships important? The importance of business relationships can take various different forms. The Success Of E Business Despite the dot.com collapse, there remains a strong belief that e business with its resurgent potential for creating new transactional opportunities between firms, suppliers, complementary product/service providers and customers will ultimately contribute significantly to the future performance of many established firms. A number of impressive examples come to mind: Tesco in the UK, Otto Versand in Germany, and Dell Computers and Cisco Systems in the US.1 For organizations such as these, e business is more than a tool but part of a deeply held strategic disposition that enables them to outperform the competition.2 Yet, in spite of these high profile success stories many other similarly situated firms have failed to duplicate these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both questions are of practical importance because they tap into the organizational reasoning that takes place to explicate and justify e business applications. Unraveling this reasoning is also of theoretical importance to the information technology (IT) literature in that it underlies the extent to which organizational success is determined by strategy content and/or process.3 Although intuitively linked to one another, the content and process perspectives have evolved independently (see Rajagopalan and Spreitzer (1996) for an extensive review). For example, a large body of content research shows that various structural considerations influence performance. These antecedents are both external and internal to the firm. The former is defined by economic, technological, political and competitive forces (Pettigrew, 1992) and the later by core competencies (Hamel and Prahalad, 1994) and dynamic capabilities (Teece et al., 1997). Both the external and internal schools of thought have been used to explain variation in IT related performance (e.g., Porter, 2001; Wade and Holland, 2004). The process school of thought is concerned with those activities leading to and supporting a choice of strategy (Huff and Reger, 1987) and its implementation (Thompson and Strickland, 2001). Explaining how strategy should be executed is the role of process research. This approach seeks the richness of a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was not until the fourteenth century that juries would start to become what we know them today. About three million people are called to serve juryduty every year in the United States. On average only 1.2 million actually serve their request according to the American Bar Association. A jury is picked from a jury pool. The jury pool is made up of around sixty people. Other countries such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have started to adopt the concept as well. Other than this a jury trial is set up relatively the same as they are in the United States. Both sides are able to present evidence to a jury and the jury discusses and comes up with a verdict. A former New York judge, Sol Wathtler, once said A district attorney could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich. (Hans, 2008). This is because a prosecution is able to get a jury to believe anything due to they are able to present evidence such as hearsay and illegally obtained evidence that wouldn t be used in a jury trial. The defense is not allowed to be in the court when a grand jury is in session, that is the reason the prosecution is able to present that evidence. This is one major reason why many countries stopped showing cases in a grand jury. In the United States .027 percent of trial by juries are tried unfairly. That gives our justice system a 99.973 percent success rate according to researchers from National Geographic (Hughes, 2014). In a case known as the Affluenza Teen; teenager Ethan Couch ... • 16. Home Depot Research Paper While not at the beach or on vacation, summer can be a great time to get a little work done around the house. Whether you are improving property value or just making your house a home, there is a lot to be done. When it comes to the nicer weather, most common improvements happen to the exterior of the home. You can improve the interior at any time, but the exterior can only be done in the right weather. This is the main reason that as soon as the snow melts, most people start to fix up the outside. Not only does the spring weather make you want to be outside, but it also inspires many of us to start fixing the things that others see. Since exterior appearances are important to many of us and the fact that we value what others think about us, we put a lot into the exterior of our homes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a recent trip to the Home Depot (mainly to get ideas on what to write about for this site), I started trying to find out what some of the top summer projects are by asking the employees and contractors in the area. Here is a list of the five most common summer fix ups they see on a regular basis. Decks and Patios One of the top all time summer projects is a new deck or patio. When it gets to be summer time, people think of barbeques and outdoor parties. Whether they are just family get togethers or block parties with friends, neighbors, or coworkers, these bring about the desire to build a bigger and better deck. The tone color of this song is upbeat and jazzy, not so much inspirational, but laid back and pleasant. The tempo is based around an 8th note signature, mostly displayed by the Hi hat in what I would classify as allegretto. The instruments involved in this song are; a piano, a standard drum set most likely a five piece with a standard 2 toms maybe 3, bass drum, snare, ride symbol, and a two crash symbols, an acoustic guitar, a banjo, a ukulele, a mandolin, an electric base, an organ, a saxophone, and last of all Van Morrison s drunken voice. The saxophone plays call and response with itself, which leads the listener to believe there are two saxophones, when in reality one saxophone is dueling with itself. During the bridge not only is the saxophone emphasized, but the organ plays the bass line on higher octaves on the same dynamics as the saxophone, so the bridge focuses on the polyphonic relationship between the sax and the organ. After the bridge a sporadic drum fill opens up for the first verse of the song (A) which is repeated just as the first time but more emphasized, especially the vocals. • 22. Messenger Protein Synthesis Genes are transcribed to yield one of three types of RNA. These RNA types include messenger RNA (mRNA), transfer RNA (tRNA), and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). Messenger RNA carries the genetic instructions needed to manufacture polypeptides. Messenger RNA is absolutely necessary, because genes cannot leave the nucleus. They pass their information to mRNA, which transports that information to the cytoplasm, where proteinsynthesis occurs at the ribosome. Protein synthesis is the manufacturing of functional polypeptides in the cytoplasm. Protein synthesis occurs through the process of translation. Translation is the formation of a chain of amino acids by using the instructions a messenger RNA strand provides. This process takes place at the ribosome. The codons of an mRNA strand carry the instructions in triplets of bases of the coding strand of the gene. Each codon encodes a specific amino acid to be installed into the growing polypeptide chain. During translation, the sequence of codons will dictate the sequence of amino acids in the protein. The amino acids are delivered to the ribosome by transfer RNA, a fairly small and mobile type of RNA. Each transfer RNA molecule attaches and transports a specific amino acid. ... This loop contains 3 bases that can pair complementarily with an appropriate codon in the mRNA. Panel Data A panel dataset contains observations on multiple entities, such as person, firms, state, or country, where each entity is observed at two or more points in time. The lighting is often single source, making heavy use of chiaroscuro, a high contrast between light and dark, using things such as streetlights or venetian blinds to convey this visual style. The environments are often portrayed as gritty streets, wet from rain and illuminated primarily by streetlights, or claustrophobic looking rooms with amounts of smoke that would trigger any working smoke alarm nowadays, depending on the location, to get across a pessimistic attitude. The role of a woman was believed to be limited to domestic responsibilities until the onset of the feminist movement. The twentieth century became a time of social change for women that found a voice in art via paintings, portraits, and photography. With time, women became more visible in public life, and art became the reflection of not only their suffering, but their perseverance, courage, and strength. Freedom from the stereotypical chains of society for women was the message conveyed through the works of artists Alice Neel, Barbara Kruger, and Mary Kelly during the twentieth century. Realism in art was a movement in which artists works captured content in a natural way without artistic embellishment or implausibility. It was a direct reflection of what had been observed in the world through lenses that granted audiences a true to life view. Though the movement ended during the 1920 s, artists Alice Neel and Mary Kelly revived Realism to art through paintings and portraits. Along with this revival, came psychological insight into social and political issues of the twentieth Century, and move toward a different image of what it meant to be a businesswoman. They also need to know the selling price of the item. From these two pieces of data, they can then calculate the profit generated from each individual item (profit = selling price cost of item). The third piece of data they need is the price if they item becomes liquidated. Thus, they can calculate the loss of an individual item if it becomes liquidated. Using these calculations, they can use the methods mentioned in Question #1 to make a decision of how many units of a particular item to stock. Essentially, we need to compare the costs associated with understocking and overstocking inventory. The costs of understocking, as mentioned above, not only includes short terms losses like the loss of the sale for that item at that time, but also include loss of future business due to customer dissatisfaction. We must also consider that if a particular item is not in stock, the entire purchase orders may be cancelled as per the terms and conditions not being met. The costs of overstocking include the cost to hold that inventory but we also need to consider that it might change if the salvage value of a product leftover depends on the number of units remaining at the end of the season. If we have a lot of product leftover, then the liquidation value might be a lot less. We have to take all these factors into consideration when making the decision of how many ... For example, how to physically find the density of an object by finding their mass with a balance and finding the object s volume using the method water displacement. The purpose of the experiment was to find out which metal is used to create post 1982 pennies. Pre 1982 pennies were made out of copper but then the metal used for making pennies changed. The metal used to create pre 1982 pennies was copper. Since the metal used to make pennies changed the density of post 1982 changed. The predicted density was believed to have something close to the metal zinc. Which will show that the post 1982 pennies are made out of zinc. During the experiment, the mass of the post 1982 pennies were found using an electric balance and the volume was found by water displacement. The pennies mass and volumes were recorded. After the recordings of five trials the densities was found of those each trials. After conducting the experiment by trying to find the density of the post 1982 pennies. The average density found after doing the experiment was 7.042 g/mL. The density of zinc is 7.13 g/mL. However, errors may have occurred tampering the density that was discovered.
