History Pentathlon
The History of the pentathlon
The history of the pentathlon stems from the complete physical training of the Greeks. The
pentathlete was the product of training in five events, unlike those athletes who were trained in
specialized areas. It began as an athletic competition to determine the best all around athlete. The
pentathlon was introduced into the Olympic Games around 708 B.C. Each pentathlete was superior
in strength and activity, which was the ideal physical beauty. The ideal pentathlete should be tall,
well built, long legs, flexible hips, and preferably with long hands and fingers.
In the ancient pentathlon, not only were women excluded from participating in the events, but they
were also not allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The military adopted this sport as a part of final examinations at a number military academies.
The afternoon of the second day was devoted to the pentathlon. All events were held in the
Stadium, with the probable exception of wrestling. From late in the 6th century B.C., all
contestants were naked and barefoot as they competed. The number of entrants was small and it
was not uncommon for some to drop out while others were eliminated in contest. Victory was not
calculated by points. If anyone was first in three events, he was proclaimed the winner. If this did
not occur, the field was slowly reduced until the wrestling event, where the only competitors were
those who had placed where in the earlier events and therefore had a chance to win.
In the modern day Olympics, this pentathlon is open only to men. There are pentathlons open for
women at the world level, but not in the Olympics. There are many other pentathlons besides this
one, such as the track and field pentathlon.
Ancient Events
The Jumping Event
The jump, or halma, was an event in the ancient pentathlon, that could be called a long jump. It
was regarded as a very strenuous exercise and as the most typical event of the pentathlon. This
event was derived from warfare practices, because the terrain in Greece was made of streams and
ditches. The athletes used halteres, or jumping weights. The

MRSA Research
MRSA research was done by Pantosti and Venditti to supports the importance of prevention control.
Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus also known as MRSA, is an infectious disease that is
spread from skin to skin contact. MRSA is very easily spread in the healthcare scenes of which
most patient are susceptible to the staph bacteriawould usually be seeking treatment of other
illness for the infection itself. If a healthcare worker who touch an infected person has the
possibility of transferring the MRSA to an uninfected patient might spread the bacteria. Besides in
the hospital environment, anyone can get MRSA on their body from contact with an infected
wound or by sharing personal items, such as towels or razors, that have touched infected skin.
MRSA infection risk can be increased when a person is in activities or places that involve
crowding, skin to skin contact, and shared equipment or supplies. People including athletes, day
care and school students, military personnel in barracks, and those who recently received inpatient
medical care are at higher risk (CDC, 2016).

History of the Holy Quran
HISTORY OF THE HOLY QURAN
The Quran is the backbone of Islam. On this Sacred Book of Allaah depends the Islamic call,
state, society and the civilisation of the Muslim world. It is the last Divine revelation, which was
sent down to Prophet Muhammad , the last and final of all Prophets, may Allaah exalt their
mention. His task was to convey the message of worshipping the One God, Allaah, without
ascribing any partners to Him. The Noble Quran, which is the source of guidance and mercy to
mankind, is divided into one hundred and fourteen (114) Soorahs (chapters) of varying lengths.
Ninety three chapters were revealed in Makkah, while the remaining twenty one were revealed in
Madeenah.
The first revelation that the Prophet received was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, Makkan revelations made the Muslims faith in Allaah firmly established. On the other hand,
Madeenan revelations were meant to translate the faith into action and give details of the Divine
Law.
Allaah will forever preserve the Quran against all attempts to destroy or corrupt it. Being guarded
by Allaah, it will always remain pure. There does not exist a single copy with any variation from
the recognised text.
Any attempt of alteration has resulted in failure.
Upon the command of the Prophet his Companions would write down what was revealed of the
Noble Quran. They used, for this purpose, palm branches stripped of leaves, parchments, shoulder
bones, stone tablets, etc. About forty people were involved in this task. Among them was Zayd Ibn
Thaabit who showed his work to the Prophet . Thus, the Quran was correctly arranged during the
Prophet s life, but it was not yet compiled into one book. In the meantime, most of the Prophet s
Companions memorised the Quran.
When Abu Bakr became Caliph after the Prophet died, a large number of the Companions were
killed during the War of Apostasy. Umar Ibn Al Khattaab went to the Caliph and discussed the
idea of compiling the Quran into one volume. He was disturbed, as most of those who memorised
it had died. Then, Abu Bakr called for Zayd and commissioned him to collect the Quran into one
book, which became known as the Mus haf.
After Zayd accomplished this great task and

The Importance Of Conflicts In Victorian Literature
1.Introduction The introduction is designed to make the goals of a writer clear to the reader by
outlining the general topics discussed throughout the paper, and it provides a clear and concise
thesis statement to wrap all the topics together to convey a point. The introduction is probably the
most important part of a paper because it sets up the tone and argumentstrategy for the rest of the
paper. My introduction in paper 1B was revised in order to provide a thesis that was less broad
and that highlighted what the multitude of unusual conflicts (1) originated from in the story of
The Lifted Veil . As suggested by the professor, I borrowed ideas voiced in my conclusion to
showcase that these conflicts stem from this mental power of Latimer s rather than some vague
source. Also, I specified that the conflict characterizes Latimer s internal struggle to resolve any
confusion as to what is being characterized. It is highly important that the reader is not confused as
to what the thesis is trying to convey because then the paper could be interpreted in multiple ways,
all of which may not align with the author s intended message.
In the writing of paper 3A, I made sure to make my introduction specific and clear. First I started
broadly discussing Victorian writing as a whole, but I quickly narrowed down to the topic of
obsessively desiring a connection with a deceased loved one in order to prepare the reader for the
upcoming thesis statement. The thesis that

Student Reflection
As I ve mentioned previously we departmentalize at Chattahoochee. I teach three math and a social
studies and writing/grammar class. I have 27 students in my first math rotation, 24 in the second,
and 22 in the third. In math I mainly ability group students as a more effective way of
differentiating instruction to meet the needs of my students. These groups are very fluid though
depending on the AKS/skill. The groups often change weekly if not daily depending on the activity
planned. My first rotation is AC math, but I still have several student they needa little extra help on
certain topics and they are still vary in their abilities. However, in this classand the others at times
the kids are also grouped based on common misconceptions. In Social Studies, I use various types
of grouping depending on the activity. When we jigsaw I will normally use heterogeneous groups,
but use homogeneous for projects.
In my homeroom class I have two EIP (Early Intervention Program) student receiving extra reading
and math support, three ESOL (English as a Second Language), nine students who are identifies as
gifted, and the rest of the students on or above grade level in math and reading. On the other two
classes I have eleven EIP students and nine ESOL students combines. In this week s reading,
several articles discuss the different ways of grouping students based on ability within or between
classes, flexible grouping as well as the cluster model. Today s classroom contains

Reflection About Symbolism
Have you ever thought about symbolism in your life? Symbolism is important in our lives
because if we recognize symbols and what they represent, it can help us to become a better
person by letting us know what we need in our lives and how it helps us. I spent some time
thinking about symbolism and here s what I came up with. The first five symbols I would like
to address represent the activities that I like to do often. My first symbol would be a shoe
because I m in cross country and I like to run because it teaches me perseverance and endurance.
I like this because whenever I overcome an obstacle like a longer race or a harder practice, it
makes me feel great about myself because of what I ve just done. Another symbol I feel
describes me well would be the internet icon because I feel using the internet to create things
allows you to do almost anything you want to. I ve been designing websites with increasing
amounts of skill since sixth grade, all of which have been visited by other online traffic. This
makes me feel good about myself because it shows that others are taking notice of my work!
The third symbol I chose would be a BMX ramp because when I m not able to ride mountain bikes,
I ride BMX. I ride BMX because it betters me as a mountain biker and lets me do things I wouldn t
normally be able to do on a mountain bike. BMX bikes are different from mountain bikes in many
ways. They are shorter and have smaller wheels. Some of them don t have brakes and

Reflection Paper For Teachers
During the month of November, I became our school s acting testing coordinator. Our testing
coordinator was in an accident and went out on medical leave. She was suddenly out for an
undetermined amount of time and with a severe concussion was unable to remember what she
completed and what she did not. During her absence, there were two assessments and a survey
that needed to me completed. These assessments included SAT 10, FFT (Teacher Survey) and
MAP R. This was a very demanding experience. The first thing that needed to be completed was
the FFT Teacher Survey. This is important to all teachers on cycle using the Framework for
Teaching. The Survey is a vital component to a teachers overall effectiveness. If left incomplete,
the teacher receives a score of zero for that portion. When I became the acting testing coordinator,
only two weeks were left in the window and no surveys were completed. Within two weeks, I
needed to complete 167 surveys for 7 teachers. Unfortunately, the teachers could not assist in this
endeavor. I tried to create a schedule were I was able to conduct all 167 surveys. This was
impossible if I was still going to meet with my intervention students. Therefore, I rounded up a team
of individuals that had opportunity and the willingness to assist. This team consisted of the ESOL
teacher and the Guidance Counselor. The team and I then created a plan that incorporated the
surveys into the Guidance Counselor s schedule. While the ESOL

Unusual And Cruel Punishment Research Paper
The question of unusual and cruel punishment is one that is undeniably at the forefront of the
debate relating to the death penalty and whether or not, as well as how, it should be administered.
Unusual and cruel punishment is prohibited under U.S, Const. Amend. VIII. As such, in the
administration of the death penalty, there must be no element of cruelty or unusual punishment.
The three drug sequence used today in lethal injections was developed almost three decades ago and
then, over the following two decades, was adopted by all but one of the death penalty states. The
first drug, sodium thiopental, is a fast acting sedative that induces a deep, coma like
unconsciousness. The second drug, pancuronium bromide, is a paralytic agent that inhibits all
muscular skeletal movements and stops respiration. Potassium chloride, the third drug, interferes
with the electrical signals that cause contractions of the heart, inducing cardiac arrest [1.]. The
argument for unusual and cruel punishment in the context of execution by lethal injection is that
the person suffers pain in the process of being killed. This stems, for example, from the fact that an
inmate that is being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
553 U.S 35 (2008) set forth an objective test that is for determining whether the death by lethal
injection would constitute unusual and cruel punishment. The question that was placed in front of
the Supreme Court would be whether the lethal injection presents a substantial risk of causing any
serious harm to the convict. If it does, then if the lethal injection would be considered under cruel
and unusual punishment. Further, is there an alternative, feasible and more effective procedure that
can be used? If there is, then the method used may be in violation of U.S, Const. amend. VIII. A
final question is the risk of maladministration. Where this risk is high and readily discernible, then
the lethal injection method used would be declared unusual and cruel

The Qin Shi Huangdi Qin Essay
Qin Shi Huangdi, the first Qin emperor, was a proactive and ambitious emperor who implemented a
central bureaucratic system that oversaw the evolution and unification of China at the cost of
public sentiment. The Qin Dynasty is considered among the most influential dynasties as it laid the
foundation for the massive cultural and economic development of Chinathat took place during the
Han Dynasty, but it also failed to achieve many of its pro commoner ideological goals. In fact,
socioeconomic disparity was not alleviated and despite the notion of enriching the lives of the
common people, it was under Qin rule in which public resentment of the authoritarian government
peaked as there were countless peasant revolts against the iron handed bureaucratic rule of China.
Because a paranoid emperor alone wielded political clout and influence, the tumultuous few years
of Qin reign was rife with paranoia and suspicion among the masses. Although the Qin Dynasty is
seldom thought as possessing the same glaring discrepancy between ideology and state that the
Communist regime in post World War II China had despite the similarities, the failure of the
flawless egalitarian state models in socioeconomic and political aspects during the Qin Dynasty
mirrored the developments in early Communist China. Among the key aspects of the Qin
unification was the act of completely clearing all local aristocracies and uniting the peasant class
into a single, mobilized workforce. Ideally, the Qin

Nailer By John Collier Analysis
This passage relates to the thematic topic of social classes. Nailer must come from an
underprivileged and poverty stricken social class. He is forced to work in small, dark spaces
surrounded with harmful asbestos and grime. Climbing through dark and unfamiliar ducts is
dangerous and terrifying, especially for a teenager like Nailer. Nobody should be performing
the difficult and risky job Nailer has. Nailer is being exposed to damaging and cancer causing
asbestos which might have adverse effects on his health. If he has to work in such an unsafe and
toxic setting, he must be poor and extremely desperate for a job. This passage relates to the
thematic topic of trust vs. betrayal. Nailer found himself in a position that left his life in the
hands of Sloth s decision. He plummeted down into an old oil reservoir and was drowning in the
slick crude oil. The oil was a massive find, which could have led to an improved and prosperous
life, something Nailer nor Sloth had. Sloth found him and had two choices: go back to the crew
and seek help or leave Nailer to die, stealing and profiting from his discovery. Since there was a
great amount of wealth and prosperity at stake, Sloth had to choose between being an honorable,
trusting character or being a selfish, betraying individual. Since... Show more content on

even though this pornography is considered mild by Atwood, the reactions and perspectives from

Classroom Observation Report
General Observation: As I entered into the science room, the students were being given a science
dipstick labeled Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems . This dipstick sums up the unit that
the students have been working on where they created their ecosystem posters and determined
which animals belong in each ecosystem. The teacher explained to the students that she calls these
dipsticks instead of tests because these documents are more focused on seeing what they took away
from the unit. She then read the pages of the dipstick so that they students could pay more attention
to the science than the reading. During this time the teacher explained some background
information about the students overall unit and what is needed to be taught according to the
science curriculum. While I was watching as the students were taking their dipstick I was able to
see that some of them were able to determine the soil conditions, the climate, and explain why
certain animals could or could not live in Vermont. Others focused only on the animals that could
survive. A few students were able to explain why those animals belonged or didn t belong in
Vermont. As students were finishing up, they were allowed to quietly read books or look at
different science materials throughout the room. The teacher was even allowing them to
experiment and work with the materials that were accessible to them. As we arrived back at the
classroom, the students transitioned into their match

Philosophical Travel Journal
I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies.
Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a
renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich
Nietzsche.
The Republic
The first society I visited was that of Plato
s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely
by dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that
Plato structured the renowned
Republic
. Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain
task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on
an d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is
logical. The army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it
whenever necessary. The soldiers
training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought
up with training both in the arts and in physical exercise,
Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was
very confident in its guardians, knowing full well that should war be declared, it would be re
solved by reason or, if all else failed, a

J. D. Salinger s Franny and Zooey is about a twenty year old college student named Franny, who
is seeking spirituality in her life. She is a member of the intelligent Glass family, whose children
struggle with conforming to society after appearing on the television quiz show called It s a Wise
Child. Salinger s novel is composed of two sections. The first section, Franny, deals with Franny
explaining to her boyfriend her distaste for the college environment. In the second section, Zooey,
Franny discusses with her brother Zooey about feeling isolated from the people around her and
finding spirituality in her life. In Franny and Zooeyby J. D. Salinger, the main protagonist, Franny,
undergoes a change in perspective as she tries to cope with her dissatisfaction with the world
through her spiritual beliefs. In the beginning, Franny is experiencing a deterioration in mental
health due to her severe judgemental attitude and harsh criticism of her college experience; with
little thought, she turns to prayerin an attempt to resolve her difficulties, but her problems grow
worse due to her lack of understanding of religion. Eventually, she comes to a greater
understanding of her relationship with others as she realizes the genuine meaning of her spiritual
beliefs through listening to Zooey s consoling advice. In the first section of the novel, Franny is

In Jane Austen’s Persuasion love and family is a major...
In Jane Austen s Persuasion love and family is a major thing I learned to see and control just
because of this book. Jane Austen is a very interesting woman. She is 7 out of 8 kids. Her sister and
her Cassandra were very close. Both had plenty of chances of marring and having a family. By 25,
she had written 3 books, Persuasion not being one of them. She had written her last book in
1818, Persuasion. In my eyes Jane was a normal England girl. She was homed school, had a big
loving family, and perused her dream. She didn t get the respect she deserved, but did write pretty
good books. Jane passed away July 18. 1817, she died of Addison s disease which is a deadly
disease. Jane Austenwas one of England s foremost novelists. She had one... Show more content on

In 1815 Emma was published then Austen began Persuasion and finished the following year.
Soon her health became bad; she had gotten Addison s disease. Henery bought Susan back, and
Jane renamed it to Catherine. She soon wrote her will, and Cassandra and Jane moved to
Winchester. July 18, 1817 Jane passed away she was 41. Her grave site never gave her props of
being an author. Persuasion and Northanger Abby were published in December 1817. Henery
gave her a biographical notice saying she was the author of all these great books. (Sutherland)
Some love her some hate her, but Jane Austen is actually loved by many. Some call her a heroine
and a heroine is a woman admired of idealized for her courage, outstand achievements, or noble
qualities. She just might be a hero to some people. She is very relevant because she talks about
stuff that people go through till this day. Like love, money, friendship, and family. I ve read a lot
of websites and they all say she writes with a great sense of irony, humor, and realism. She had
real life characters, and real life situations. Who wouldn t love an author like that who talks about
stuff that we are going through, plus she died in 1817. Like people went through what we did

My Importance Of Academic Interests In High School
My academic interests throughout the years have really changed and evolved as I have matured
as a student. Since I started school, I ve always had an appreciation for academics and the
various subjects that I learned. I would attribute this to the fact that I was able to work with and
learn from students, teachers or friends that were passionate about a particular subject, helping
me understand a subject s value even if it did not particularly interest me. By having this
exposure during my formative years where I learned to think independently, I came to cherish
my own education in addition to realizing the importance and value education can hold for
others. As I grew older and began to think for myself, I developed an affinity towards math and
science. I would attribute this to the fact that my mind is more analytical than creative, leading
me to find interest in areas of study that progress logically and introduce concepts that can be
built on top of each other. Once I got to high school, the science classes that I took started to
utilize concepts from mathematics and vice versa. I was particularly interested when concepts and
ideas stemming from a variety of fields were put together in order to accomplish something
practical. I began to seek out articles and videos online to further develop my knowledge of
technology and scientific phenomena. At the end of my junior year, I was motivated to seek out
and apply for various research opportunities that involved working

A Graveyard in Asheville
For this journal review, I have decided to do a graveyard in Asheville which is very well known.
The cemetery Riverside Cemetery has existed since 1885 and was built by the Asheville
Cemetery Company and in 1952 was sold to the City of Asheville. For this review I ll be focusing
on the various styles of graves seen throughout the cemetery, while also emphasizing the meaning
of the different artistic symbols seen. I ll also make sure to note the significant graves and
mausoleums that are home to some of the most descriptive artwork. The graveyard is home to
more than 14,000 graves some of which carry important meanings or information. I believe
graveyards are sacred art museums and while walking through one provides a much different
experience, some similarities are important for us to see.
The City of Asheville s Riverside Cemetery is located in Montford, less than 2 miles from
downtown. It provides over 87 acres of grounds and is a protected tree area. Today the area
operates under the City of Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Looking
through the various headstones, I can see many similarities among the different symbols. Looking
past just the symbols we can see a level of intricate artwork laid down by the art of hand carving
and engraving. Hand carving and engraving headstones is an ancient practice in which artists and
craftsmen have formed extraordinary memorials from pieces of raw stone.
The craft of engraving headstones over time

In this lab, the goal is to explore the idea of elimination reactions and investigate ways to

For an E2 reaction to occur, strong bases should be utilized for this lab since E2 reactions favor
well with strong bases. KOH is a strong base that is also acts as a strong nucleophile. This is
because it contains a hydroxyl group and they are both strong bases and nucleophiles.
Heat will also be applied to encourage the chemicals to go through the elimination reaction. There
will be two ways to apply heat so that the reaction can occur. The first way is through a thermal
reaction process using sand baths to heat the reaction. The other method of heating is to microwave

The Impact Of The Fourteenth Amendment
For centuries, the success of a democratic society has been measured by its commitment to equality,
a resounding principle central to our nation s founding. The Enlightenment inspired language of the
Declaration of Independence, namely the age old axiom that all men are created equal, pervades
our perception of the American creed. However, nearly a century passed before the Lockean
principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence began to bear the force of law. Entitling
American citizens to due process and equal protection of the law, the Fourteenth Amendment,
perhaps the most transformative Amendment of all, has inspired the steady progression of
American society. Nonetheless, while the Amendment serves as the chief legal force behind the
democratic goal of equality, questions regarding its achievement of that goal... Show more content

Regardless of the guarantees evoked in its wording, only court challenges will determine the
fulfillment of its intent, demanding a conscientious populace and Supreme Court that evolves in
time with the dynamic sentiment of modern society. In another respect, the erroneous conclusion
that the amendment itself is immune to criticism must be rejected. For instance, Section II of the
amendment permits the disenfranchisement of felons, a provision that ironically has perpetuated
the marginalization of those that the amendment was intended to protect. The war on drugs, a
campaign that has disproportionately ravaged African American communities, effectively deprives
a substantial percentage of the African American community of the most basic privilege of
citizenship, a consequence that runs counter to the egalitarian quality that defines the amendment.
Nonetheless, all things considered, the sheer existence of the Fourteenth Amendment manifests the
American commitment to wholly achieving equality, a rewarding work in

Spike Lee
An auteur is a director who personal creative vision and style is expressed through films. The
term auteur is originated in France and is French for author. There are different ways in which a
director can express their vision in films and show who they are. There are many directors that are
considered to be a auteur such as: Quentin Tarintino, Tim Burton, Kathryn Bigelow, Stanley
Kubrick and Woody Allen. The director I have chosen as an auteur is Spike Lee.
Lee s Life:

Converse, Jaguar, Taco Bell and Ben Jerry s.
His Personal Style:
Themes:
Spike is no stranger to controversy due to the elements he uses in his films. Most of Lee s films
consist of an African American theme and inspect the issues of race relations, political issues,
urban crime and violence. His 2nd film he made Do the Right Thing (1989) explored all of these
issues. He also explored the issues of family/father relationships in his films Crooklyn (1994),
Get on the Bus (1996) and He Got Game (1998). In his films School Daze (1988), Do The Right
Thing (1989), Jungle Fever (1991), Get on the Bus (1996), Summer of Sam (1999) and
Bamboozled (2000) he included the issues circulating around racism. Another issue he explores is
black female sexuality which is in the films She s Gotta Have It (1986), Girl 6 (1996) and She
Hates Me (2004).
Genre:
Whenever it comes to genre Spike always picks the right one. He switches them around so

Philips, The Largest European Light Bulb Producers
In Holland, Gerard Philips started a light bulb factory with his father in 1892. Later, Gerard s
brother, Anton, joined them adding his experience in sales and management. The Philips family run
business eventually grew to be one of the largest European light bulb producers. In Japan, 23 year
old Konosuke Matsushita started producing double ended sockets in 1918. Matsushita quickly
expanded his company by adding new products. By the company s 40th year they had over 5,000
different products and owned 40% of the Japanese appliance stores. How did Philips become the
leading consumer electronics company in the world in the postwar era? What distinctive
competence did they build? What distinctive incompetencies? When Philips was founded in 1892,
their strategy was to focus strictly on producing and selling light bulbs. By investing in new
production technology to manufacture their light bulbs, Philips became a leader in industrial
research. Research in Gerard Philips opinion was vital to implementing new procedures, innovation,
and improving production. At this time, Philips was using the home replication strategy. This
strategy is used when a company does not see any reason to adjust their domestic strategy as they
enter international markets. Around 1918, Philips began expanding its product line which made it
more difficult to implement the home replication strategy. During the late 1930s, when the war was
about to begin, Philips moved around its overseas assets,

Evolution Of The Doctor Patient Relationship Into Modern...
THE EVOLUTION OF THE DOCTOR PATIENT RELATIONSHIP INTO MODERN TIMES
With the onset of current technological innovations as well as new modern developments in the
health care world, the traditional relationship doctors once had with their patients has evolved
dramatically. Instead of strictly focusing on the well being of their patients, doctors now more than
ever have additional roles in the health care world, from advancing patient care outside of the
hospital, to becoming more informed of the for profit clinics that are readily increasing in numbers
across the country. Doctors are continually trying to increase their productivity while accepting
these additional roles. This expansion of the doctor s roles has led to the decrease in effectiveness
in the connection with patients. Long gone are the days in which doctors took the appropriate
amount of time to nurture the intimate and sacred relationship they had with their patients. Instead,
doctors rush to see as many patients as possible a day, sacrificing quality of care. Currently, doctors
are spread too thinly and are slowly dissolving the trust of patients. The unfortunate shift of the
doctor patient relationship in today s society is undeniably devastating with the accumulation of
these changes. Traditionally, doctors had complete knowledge of the full medical history of all
patients and every single health complication each patient amassed. With technology playing a huge
factor in the modern era and people

Carolina Maria De Jesus s Child Of The Dark
The novel, Child of the Dark, details the stories of a poor woman and her struggles in life. The
book is a diary written by Carolina Maria de Jesus where she writes about her experiences living in
the favelas in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Carolina s diary details the events in her life that took place
between the years of 1955 and 1960. Carolina documents the everyday lives of people who live in
the favelas and details what life is like for poor people in Brazil. Carolina s diary gives a good
depiction of life in the favela.
During the time the novel was written, Carolina was a forty one year old Brazilian woman who

Carolina uses writing as a way to escape her life in the favelas, with her words being a means to
express herself. Many of the others living in the favela use violence as way to express how they
feel and engage in arguments and fights. Carolina does not resort to violence and instead chooses
to use her words and her ability to write as a way to defend herself. She threatens to put people in
her book when they wrong her.
Carolina s gender, race, and social location make her a key study because it can reflect on Brazil
as a country and demonstrate how the country operates. Carolina s poor living conditions and
struggles as a woman shows how other women of color may live in Brazil. Carolina s life and the
events that are portrayed in her diary give insight to the politics of Brazil and how the poor are
treated.
In conclusion, reading about Carolina s life has had a huge impact on my learnings of Brazil. While
reading this book, I was able to reflect on what we learned and discussed about life in the favelas in
class. When I hear of Brazil, I always hear of the wealthy places, pretty women and beautiful sites
to visit. However, the favelas and life of the poor people living in Brazil is rarely mentioned and
talked about. Reading Carolina s diary gave me a different image of the country and showed Brazil
in another light. Carolina s diary gave me more insight on what the daily life of a favelado is like
and what people who live in the favelas experience on a daily

Essay On Social Construction Of Race
Society plays a major role in classifying people race, ethnicity, and social treatment. The
definition of race can be put into two categories biological and sociological factors. Race is an
ideology that people use to describe the physical and genetic makeup of an individual. A person
racial construction greatly impacts an individual s identity. This is look as the person skin color,
facial bone structure, eyes, and hair color. Although, there is no basis confirm these ideas, racehas
been used to determine a person s health and character. In terms of the sociological factors that
defines race is ethnicity. It is the cultural aspect of a group of people this include their values,
traditions, and position in society. The public laws and policies is what determines an individual s
standing in society. The biological and social factors both work equally to define race.

The concept of environmental scanning is important because of the short term and long term
success of a company. This tool helps companies scan, monitor, evaluate, and forecast the internal
and external parts of the company. In order to obtain an accurate assessment of the internal and
external variables of a company, the business managers would have to use a SWOT analysis to
develop awareness to different of the company. For example, the company could want to measure

The transmission of power without wires is not a theory or a mere possibility, it is now a reality.
The electrical energy can be economically transmitted without wires to any terrestrial distance,
many researchers have established in numerous observations, experiments and measurements,
qualitative and quantitative [5 9]. These have demonstrated that it is practicable to distribute power
from a central plant in unlimited amounts, with a loss not exceeding a small fraction of one per
cent, in the transmission, even to the greatest distance, twelve thousand miles to the opposite end

researchers familiar with the design and construction of my high potential magnifying transmitter,
There were three popular theories present in the literature of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. They
were:
1. Transmission through or along the Earth,
2. Propagation as a result of terrestrial resonances,

Universal health care can benefit Americans to no end. Many countries have tried it out, and it
has succeeded. Universal health care does not mean everything is free. It isn t a hand out. It just
means that if you break a bone, or have a medical condition you get taken care of without having

pay their medical expenses, including my own mother. Everyone needs health care, even if
currently they have no medical problem. It s crucial. About 33 million Americans did not have

Mirrored Worlds
There are many instances throughout literature where two pieces, told by two different narrators,
and telling two different stories can be found to have similar textual qualities. This instance can be
shown between A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary
Rowlandson herself and Our Nig by Harriet E. Wilson. The stories depict the great suffering of two
individuals who express similar qualities in their writings; the qualities being that each piece is a
captivity narrative, there is a struggle with faith, and a silenced sexual subtext. The first piece by
Rowlandson tells the story of a white Puritan woman. She is captured by Native Americans, and
goes through many hardships as she is held against her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second similarity between the two pieces is seen with their struggles with faith.
Rowlandson starts off in the beginning of her narrative already a Puritan follower. Her plight
through captivity, she says, only strengthened her faith. Many say her narrative to be a religious
allegory, telling the tale of her captivity on the surface, but further looking to the deeper journey
of faith that she endures. The entire narrative shows Rowlandson s religious journey, and even
while looking at the twenty removes that take place, one can see that each of these removes
represent the stages of her spiritual journey. Jordan Stein argues in the Historiography of
Sexuality that Rowlandson, suggests that her experience displays God s truth rather than her
own (483). This other major point seen in her work shows she believes her capture to have been
a test of her faith by God himself. In terms of a strengthened faith that is not exactly what is
found by Frado in Wilson s Our Nig. Frado starts off as having no real religious beliefs. At the
Bellmonts house she soon befriends Aunt Abby and the Bellmonts son, James, who both have
strong religious backgrounds. Throughout the story, both characters hope for a conversion in
Frado and push with her to attend church, religious meetings, and to teach her the Bible. Frado
also has a strong desire for a conversion because she loves these two characters and wants to make

Natural Vs. Artificial Contraception
Natural vs. Artificial Contraception: What is moral? One would think the number one issue for
women s advancement in society in the twenty first century would be related to their careers:
equal pay, better maternity leave, or the removal of male hierarchical structures, etc. However,
feminists, certain politicians, and the media have put forward artificial contraception as the
primary issue for women s liberation. They claim women have a right to choose when they
become a parent and with whom. Women should have the sexual freedom of being able to
engage in sex without consequences, so they assert. Artificial contraception has allowed women
to be more sexually active, but has it made them freer? Catholic social teaching would answer that
question in the negative. Artificial contraception has made women slaves to sexual desires and
stripped them of feminine personhood. This paper will address how this objectification of women
comes about from the disordered pursuit of pleasure and pervasive cultural self centeredness in
artificial contraception, and how NFP avoids such harmful effects. People are formed by their
actions. In our relativistic culture, we tend to think that things do not have inherent meaning, but
rather that they gain their meaning from the value one places on them in terms of one s own
desires (WSC, 113). People of this mindset do not see artificial contraception as bad for they are

Essay on 1 Kings
1 Kings
Introduction In 1 Kings 18 19 we are introduced to one of the most magical men in the Bible, and
to one of the greatest miracles. Along with Moses and Jesus, Elijah is among the great miracle
workers of the world. Elijah used miracles to bring Israel up out of shambles, if just for a moment.
He also showed extreme faith and perseverance in the face of great odds. But the true character of
Elijah lies in his name, which literally means, Yahweh is my God (Anderson 246).
Prelude to The Contest
In order to understand chapters 18 and 19 of 1 Kings, one must get some background on its main
character. In 1 Kings 17, we are first introduced to Elijah. At the time, Israel is at one of its lowest
points. King Ahab and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elijah tells Obadiah to go to Ahab and tell him that he wants to meet with him. When the meeting
occurs, Ahab refers to Elijah as the troubler of Israel (1 Kings 18:17). Elijah responds by saying
that Israel has brought the trouble upon themselves by worshiping Baal. This is the first statement
of the reason that Elijah has been sent on this mission. Ahab is then instructed to gather all of his
people and the prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:19).
It is at this point that we come to one of the most dramatic events in the entire Old Testament.
One man, Elijah, challenges the most powerful king in the land and his prophets to a contest of
faith. He declares that the worshipers of Baal will cut a bull into pieces and set it upon the altar
of Baal. As the lone representative of Yahweh, Elijah will then cut up a bull and set it upon the
altar of Yahweh. The prophets are then to call upon Baal to strike the altar with fire. Elijah will
then call upon Yahweh to strike his altar with fire. The true god could then be determined.
The prophets do as instructed and call upon Baal to ignite their altar. They call out and dance, but
nothing happened. All the while Elijah is taunting them, asking them why Baal is not responding.
The failure of Baal to react is made even more dramatic when one recognizes the fact that Baal is
the supposed god of weather,

In order to prevent this, he consumed and soaked himself in the blood of those he had slain
(Brogaard). Chase suffered from paranoia as a result of his schizophrenia, making him believe
that there actually were Nazis trying to kill him. Similar to Watts, Chase also lost his sense of
reality allowing his paranoia to consume him and as a result he killed multiple people. This
inability to differentiate between fantasy and reality is significant among all psychotic serial
killers. Psychotic serial killers can also be triggered by their relationships with family members
and loss of close relatives, such as in the case of Ed Gein (Morrison 51). Ed Gein was also a
Schizophrenic, who began digging up graves and most notably skinning his victims to make

is incorrect because in an interview with Morrison, Gein made it clear that they were wrong and
they were only assumptions (quote and page). These criminal actions were triggered after the loss
of his brother, father, and most importantly, his over bearing mother (Morrison 51). The death of
his family left Gein alone, and his psychosis disabled his ability to properly mourn and cope with
the deaths. In order to cope with the death of his mother, Gein

Olmsted And Veaux Central Park Summary
Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux s choices in the design of Central Park reflect a key
movement toward sustainability. In leiu of ornate structures prefered by the upper class, Olmsted
and Vaux chose designs that would encourage people from all classes to enjoy the park. Olmsted
and Vaux selected plants and additional fixtures in the park by considering ecological implications.
One of the main goals during the creation of Central Parkwas to provide a serene space for city
dwellers to go and escape the troubles of urban life. Olmsted and Vaux promoted sustainability in
the design of Central Park by maintaining class equality, making environmentally sound decisions,
and supporting the needs of the surrounding community.

Numerous films have set Central Park as the backdrop of their stories not because of glitz and
glamor, but because of the coordination of all things so ordinary they don t distract from the story
and the presentation of something so extraordinary the audience feels an air of joy and importance
without realizing the genius of Central Park s simplicity. Plenty of iconic pieces of Americana like
farming, mainstream jazz, and the white picket fence have come and gone but the sustainability of
Central Park s display of equality, care in environmentally based effects on ambiance, and
protection of parkgoers emotional wellbeing will surely stand the test of time for many years to

The range of the cheetah
The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a large feline (family Felidae, subfamily Felinae) inhabiting
most of Africa and parts of Iran. It is the only extant member of the genus Acinonyx. The cheetah
can run faster than any other land animal as fast as 110 to 120 km/h (68 to 75
mph)[3][4][5][6][7][8] in short bursts covering distances up to 500 m (1,600 ft), and has the ability
to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in three seconds.[9]
The cheetah is a unique felid, with its closest living relatives being the puma and jaguarundi of the
Americas. This cat is notable for modifications in the species paws, being one of the few felids
with only semi retractable claws.[10]
Its main hunting strategy is to trip swift prey such as various antelope species and hares with their
dewclaw. Almost every facet of the cheetah s

Bailey And Casey
Question: Bailey and Casey spend a lot of time interacting online. They re Facebook friends and
follow each other on Twitter and Instagram, as well as playing online games together.
Unbeknownst to Casey, though, Bailey is not a human being. Bailey is a computer program.
Given that Bailey is maintaining this sort of complex relationship with not just Casey, but an
entire network of online friends (none of whom suspect that Bailey is not human), are we
justified in concluding that Bailey has a mind? Antithesis: No, Bailey does not have a mind.
Objection 1: Because Bailey is a computer program, she has no mind. The entirety of her
existence has been created in a lab and could easily be stored on a chip. Bailey s entity occupies no
physical space, has no body, and has no actual brain. Due to this, Bailey is not able to be conscious
because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, since she is capable of simultaneously maintaining relationships with numerous people
besides Casey, Bailey does not have a mind because human beings are unable to do the same thing.
Response: Despite the fact that Bailey is not a living, breathing human being but rather a highly
emotional and intelligent entity, I respond that Bailey does have a mind. According to Rene
Descartes, a being s mind is vastly different from its matter. In Bailey s case, she has no physical
body but is apparently still capable of entertaining and conveying many human like emotions using
her artificial mind. The 2013 film Her explored much of this same territory in the sense that
artificially intelligent software programs are capable of having emotions and complex relationships
with human beings. Such a machine as Samantha in Her could have very well passed the Turing
Test, which measures a machine s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior indistinguishable from that
of a human. Regardless,

The Effect Of The Arab Spring On The Muslim Brotherhood
In this paper, I will be explaining the concept of revolution, its definition, and application in Egypt
and Tunisia. I will further discuss the achievement that took place since the revolutions in both
countries and finally will conclude by demonstrating the effect of the Arab spring on the Muslim
brotherhood.
Revolution tend to occur when the basic needs of a population are not met by its government,
when there is a violation of basic human rights, when there is no hope, when people are oppressed,
when people are at some sort of disadvantage.
According to Steven Pincus, in Rethinking Revolution: a New Tocquevillian Perspective, revolution
can be defined as a rapid, judgmental and violent domestic change in the dominant values and
myths of a society, in its political institutions, social structures, leadership, and government
activities and policies . It is a fundamental change in power: a violent movement to overthrow an
existing regime that results in major changes in the society. Revolutions have occurred throughout
history, but its purpose, duration and method have varied from one country to the other.
No one would have ever thought that there would be an uprising in Egypt against autocratic rule, as
rulers of Egypt were smart dictators who knew well enough how to control their people. The
regime itself provided the calendar day for the day of Rage , where all sectors of the society were
participating. It started on January 25th as a medium size demonstration but

character. Santiago is brave. This trait is shown in the novel when he must turn himself into the

Mom knock it off, I m going to be fine, there s nothing to worry about! I said. A few days after
my dad arrived, we went to the hospital again to get a check up and see what s going to happen in
the next couple of months. The doctor said, This is going to be a complex surgery to get this tumor

Love Medicine
In addition to being victims of poverty, these female protagonists also suffer as victims of their
gender. In her book, Feminist Readings of Native American Literature: Coming to Voice, Katherine
M. Donovan wrote, Although [Native American women] face many of the same problems as their
male counterparts alcoholism, drug abuse, unemployment, poverty, suicide, loss of tradition and
identity they also face problems that are distinctly female gendered: a loss of power and esteem in
formerly matrilineal cultures; the trauma of psychological, physical, and sexual abuse from Native
and non Native men (Donovan 18) First Nation women had very few rights in the 1900s and their
issues drew very little attention. Even today, many First Nation s women are murdered and raped
without much police or media attention. In the 1940s until the 1980s, the setting of these books,
their rights and attention to their issues would have been even fewer, and many men will have
taken advantage of First Nation women. Love Medicine highlights how male characters will take...

She allows men to control every aspect of her life, from her income to her activities. In the
beginning of the first chapter, June is on her way back to the reservation, however, she sees a
man in a bar who, rapped at her from inside the window (1) and hooked his arm, inviting her to
enter (1). The ease of which he convinces her to come into the bar demonstrates how little she
respects herself. June s lack of self respect evokes pity from the reader, as it comes from her lack
of self confidence and lack of self esteem. This image is furthered when she allows Andy, the
man at the bar, to have sex with her because she thought he could be different (3), despite the fact
that he doesn t know her name, and has no regard for her. Again, her lack of self esteem develops
pity and sympathy for her character as she walks to her own death.

Comparing The Sit-In And Freedom Riders
Sit In and Freedom Riders
From the 1950 s to the early 1960 s of the United State, colored people were treated unfairly by
segregation, which was a separation between colored people and white people. The Southern
United States was the most racist and violent part of U.S. because of the Jim Crow Laws
enforcing the racial segregation over all the public places to separate African Americans and white
people. However, the segregation finally came to an end due to the civil rights movement in 1964,
and one of the main nonviolent protests of the civil rights movement were the Sit In and Freedom
Riders. Sit In and the Freedom Riders demonstrated the rights of the African Americans and
accelerated the civil rights movement.
First of all, the Sit In and the Freedom Riders protest were trying to show how unfair the
segregation was and how violent and racist the white people were in the segregation, and potentially
stop the segregation. In the article: The Sit In movement, the author stated: Sit In organizers
believed that if the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article on the Freedom Riders: Though many were arrested for trespassing,
disorderly conduct or disturbing the peace, national media coverage of the sit ins brought
increasing attention to the struggle for civil rights for African Americans (history.com). The
protests have successfully got more and more people to realize the importance of civil rights,
which was an important step for the civil rights movement to be successful. The civil rights
movement accomplished peace between all races, which is of course one of the qualities that made
the unique United States, and the Sit In and the Freedom Riders movement was doubtlessly the
main acceleration of the civil rights

Descriptive Essay Holiday
The Holidays Usually when I get into the holiday spirit when Halloween comes around. The
movies, haunted houses, and the candy especially. I don t really enjoy the scary movies, but I
do like getting scared. I guess it s all the like the way they kill them is something I don t want to
see. Sometimes I guess scary scenarios for some reason, like thing that would happen in Final
Destination.I don t like dressing up but I do like everything else. It s because I m very lazy and
I don t feel like dressing up. I ll do everything else, but I don t want to dress up. When I was little
in elementary I used to dress up, then as the year goes by I would just grab random things and be
the most randomest things, until a group of my friends decided to dress up like Pretty Little
Liars, which is pretty much all black. I remember that year I went to trick or treat with them and
it rained. We were walking in the rain with our bags of candy. We walked through a bunch of
streets and hardly anyone was out. It s was kinda lame, but at least the houses that did have
candy gave out a lot. After we finished trick or treating we sorted out our candy and traded them.
Halloween isn t my most favorite but I still find ways to enjoy it. After Halloween there come
Thanksgiving. I eat my way out of Thanksgiving, although it sucks for having a small appetite. I
tend to grab a lot of food and end up not eating it all. I love the ham my grandma makes with the
stuffing and the stuffing. My grandmas sister

Sports Nutrition Essay
Have supplements and fine tuned dieting given some athletes an edge over others? After merely
decades of research and clinical trials, studies have shown the enormous benefits supplements and
consistent dieting has on an athlete. Supplements like whey protein, creatine, caffeine, and
branched chain amino acids have allowed athletes to surpass limiting plateaus and reach new
heights with respect to physical conditioning and mental awareness. Whey protein provides protein,
which is an important macronutrient that serves as a building block for muscles. Creatine is a

When ingested, complex carbohydrates are broken down within the stomach and absorbed by
muscles. The amount of glycogen stored by a muscle is directly correlated to the amount of work
an athlete can do during a training session3. Glycogen is oxidized by muscles when used3. Once
the glycogen stores within the muscle are depleted, fatigue sets in and hinders the athlete s ability
to perform. Therefore, supplements have been made to provide athletes with carbohydrates that can
replenish the glycogen stores, which allows them to perform past their usual capacity and avoid the
effects of fatigue. Fats play an important role in maintaining the health of joints and major organs,
which is why fats are part of a balanced diet and cannot be neglected. Omega 3 fatty acids protect a
person s muscles, joints, immune system, cardiovascular system, and nervous system.1 An athlete s
training is extremely intense and can damage the joints and muscles over a long period of time,
thus, it is important that athletes consume large amounts of omega 3 fatty acids relative to the
average person so that they keep their muscles and joints in peak condition. Of the three
macronutrients listed, protein is the most important macronutrient as a high protein intake
preserves muscle and augments the formation of more muscle, which is a sought after goal for
many athletes.1 Repairing and building more muscle requires a source of protein and amino acids

  • 2. History Pentathlon The History of the pentathlon The history of the pentathlon stems from the complete physical training of the Greeks. The pentathlete was the product of training in five events, unlike those athletes who were trained in specialized areas. It began as an athletic competition to determine the best all around athlete. The pentathlon was introduced into the Olympic Games around 708 B.C. Each pentathlete was superior in strength and activity, which was the ideal physical beauty. The ideal pentathlete should be tall, well built, long legs, flexible hips, and preferably with long hands and fingers. In the ancient pentathlon, not only were women excluded from participating in the events, but they were also not allowed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The military adopted this sport as a part of final examinations at a number military academies. The afternoon of the second day was devoted to the pentathlon. All events were held in the Stadium, with the probable exception of wrestling. From late in the 6th century B.C., all contestants were naked and barefoot as they competed. The number of entrants was small and it was not uncommon for some to drop out while others were eliminated in contest. Victory was not calculated by points. If anyone was first in three events, he was proclaimed the winner. If this did not occur, the field was slowly reduced until the wrestling event, where the only competitors were those who had placed where in the earlier events and therefore had a chance to win. In the modern day Olympics, this pentathlon is open only to men. There are pentathlons open for women at the world level, but not in the Olympics. There are many other pentathlons besides this one, such as the track and field pentathlon. Ancient Events The Jumping Event The jump, or halma, was an event in the ancient pentathlon, that could be called a long jump. It was regarded as a very strenuous exercise and as the most typical event of the pentathlon. This event was derived from warfare practices, because the terrain in Greece was made of streams and ditches. The athletes used halteres, or jumping weights. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. History of the Holy Quran HISTORY OF THE HOLY QURAN The Quran is the backbone of Islam. On this Sacred Book of Allaah depends the Islamic call, state, society and the civilisation of the Muslim world. It is the last Divine revelation, which was sent down to Prophet Muhammad , the last and final of all Prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention. His task was to convey the message of worshipping the One God, Allaah, without ascribing any partners to Him. The Noble Quran, which is the source of guidance and mercy to mankind, is divided into one hundred and fourteen (114) Soorahs (chapters) of varying lengths. Ninety three chapters were revealed in Makkah, while the remaining twenty one were revealed in Madeenah. The first revelation that the Prophet received was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, Makkan revelations made the Muslims faith in Allaah firmly established. On the other hand, Madeenan revelations were meant to translate the faith into action and give details of the Divine Law. Allaah will forever preserve the Quran against all attempts to destroy or corrupt it. Being guarded by Allaah, it will always remain pure. There does not exist a single copy with any variation from the recognised text. Any attempt of alteration has resulted in failure. Upon the command of the Prophet his Companions would write down what was revealed of the Noble Quran. They used, for this purpose, palm branches stripped of leaves, parchments, shoulder bones, stone tablets, etc. About forty people were involved in this task. Among them was Zayd Ibn Thaabit who showed his work to the Prophet . Thus, the Quran was correctly arranged during the Prophet s life, but it was not yet compiled into one book. In the meantime, most of the Prophet s Companions memorised the Quran. When Abu Bakr became Caliph after the Prophet died, a large number of the Companions were killed during the War of Apostasy. Umar Ibn Al Khattaab went to the Caliph and discussed the idea of compiling the Quran into one volume. He was disturbed, as most of those who memorised it had died. Then, Abu Bakr called for Zayd and commissioned him to collect the Quran into one book, which became known as the Mus haf. After Zayd accomplished this great task and ... • 5. The Importance Of Conflicts In Victorian Literature 1.Introduction The introduction is designed to make the goals of a writer clear to the reader by outlining the general topics discussed throughout the paper, and it provides a clear and concise thesis statement to wrap all the topics together to convey a point. The introduction is probably the most important part of a paper because it sets up the tone and argumentstrategy for the rest of the paper. My introduction in paper 1B was revised in order to provide a thesis that was less broad and that highlighted what the multitude of unusual conflicts (1) originated from in the story of The Lifted Veil . As suggested by the professor, I borrowed ideas voiced in my conclusion to showcase that these conflicts stem from this mental power of Latimer s rather than some vague source. Also, I specified that the conflict characterizes Latimer s internal struggle to resolve any confusion as to what is being characterized. It is highly important that the reader is not confused as to what the thesis is trying to convey because then the paper could be interpreted in multiple ways, all of which may not align with the author s intended message. In the writing of paper 3A, I made sure to make my introduction specific and clear. First I started broadly discussing Victorian writing as a whole, but I quickly narrowed down to the topic of obsessively desiring a connection with a deceased loved one in order to prepare the reader for the upcoming thesis statement. The thesis that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Student Reflection As I ve mentioned previously we departmentalize at Chattahoochee. I teach three math and a social studies and writing/grammar class. I have 27 students in my first math rotation, 24 in the second, and 22 in the third. In math I mainly ability group students as a more effective way of differentiating instruction to meet the needs of my students. These groups are very fluid though depending on the AKS/skill. The groups often change weekly if not daily depending on the activity planned. My first rotation is AC math, but I still have several student they needa little extra help on certain topics and they are still vary in their abilities. However, in this classand the others at times the kids are also grouped based on common misconceptions. In Social Studies, I use various types of grouping depending on the activity. When we jigsaw I will normally use heterogeneous groups, but use homogeneous for projects. In my homeroom class I have two EIP (Early Intervention Program) student receiving extra reading and math support, three ESOL (English as a Second Language), nine students who are identifies as gifted, and the rest of the students on or above grade level in math and reading. On the other two classes I have eleven EIP students and nine ESOL students combines. • 7. Reflection About Symbolism Have you ever thought about symbolism in your life? Symbolism is important in our lives because if we recognize symbols and what they represent, it can help us to become a better person by letting us know what we need in our lives and how it helps us. I spent some time thinking about symbolism and here s what I came up with. The first five symbols I would like to address represent the activities that I like to do often. My first symbol would be a shoe because I m in cross country and I like to run because it teaches me perseverance and endurance. I like this because whenever I overcome an obstacle like a longer race or a harder practice, it makes me feel great about myself because of what I ve just done. Another symbol I feel describes me well would be the internet icon because I feel using the internet to create things allows you to do almost anything you want to. I ve been designing websites with increasing amounts of skill since sixth grade, all of which have been visited by other online traffic. This makes me feel good about myself because it shows that others are taking notice of my work! The third symbol I chose would be a BMX ramp because when I m not able to ride mountain bikes, I ride BMX. I ride BMX because it betters me as a mountain biker and lets me do things I wouldn t normally be able to do on a mountain bike. BMX bikes are different from mountain bikes in many ways. They are shorter and have smaller wheels. Some of them don t have brakes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Reflection Paper For Teachers During the month of November, I became our school s acting testing coordinator. Our testing coordinator was in an accident and went out on medical leave. She was suddenly out for an undetermined amount of time and with a severe concussion was unable to remember what she completed and what she did not. During her absence, there were two assessments and a survey that needed to me completed. These assessments included SAT 10, FFT (Teacher Survey) and MAP R. This was a very demanding experience. The first thing that needed to be completed was the FFT Teacher Survey. This is important to all teachers on cycle using the Framework for Teaching. The Survey is a vital component to a teachers overall effectiveness. If left incomplete, the teacher receives a score of zero for that portion. When I became the acting testing coordinator, only two weeks were left in the window and no surveys were completed. Within two weeks, I needed to complete 167 surveys for 7 teachers. Unfortunately, the teachers could not assist in this endeavor. I tried to create a schedule were I was able to conduct all 167 surveys. This was impossible if I was still going to meet with my intervention students. Therefore, I rounded up a team of individuals that had opportunity and the willingness to assist. This team consisted of the ESOL teacher and the Guidance Counselor. The team and I then created a plan that incorporated the surveys into the Guidance Counselor s schedule. While the ESOL ... • 9. Unusual And Cruel Punishment Research Paper The question of unusual and cruel punishment is one that is undeniably at the forefront of the debate relating to the death penalty and whether or not, as well as how, it should be administered. Unusual and cruel punishment is prohibited under U.S, Const. Amend. VIII. As such, in the administration of the death penalty, there must be no element of cruelty or unusual punishment. The three drug sequence used today in lethal injections was developed almost three decades ago and then, over the following two decades, was adopted by all but one of the death penalty states. The first drug, sodium thiopental, is a fast acting sedative that induces a deep, coma like unconsciousness. The second drug, pancuronium bromide, is a paralytic agent that inhibits all muscular skeletal movements and stops respiration. Potassium chloride, the third drug, interferes with the electrical signals that cause contractions of the heart, inducing cardiac arrest [1.]. The argument for unusual and cruel punishment in the context of execution by lethal injection is that the person suffers pain in the process of being killed. This stems, for example, from the fact that an inmate that is being... The question that was placed in front of the Supreme Court would be whether the lethal injection presents a substantial risk of causing any serious harm to the convict. If it does, then if the lethal injection would be considered under cruel and unusual punishment. Further, is there an alternative, feasible and more effective procedure that can be used? If there is, then the method used may be in violation of U.S, Const. amend. VIII. A final question is the risk of maladministration. • 10. The Qin Shi Huangdi Qin Essay Qin Shi Huangdi, the first Qin emperor, was a proactive and ambitious emperor who implemented a central bureaucratic system that oversaw the evolution and unification of China at the cost of public sentiment. The Qin Dynasty is considered among the most influential dynasties as it laid the foundation for the massive cultural and economic development of Chinathat took place during the Han Dynasty, but it also failed to achieve many of its pro commoner ideological goals. In fact, socioeconomic disparity was not alleviated and despite the notion of enriching the lives of the common people, it was under Qin rule in which public resentment of the authoritarian government peaked as there were countless peasant revolts against the iron handed bureaucratic rule of China. Because a paranoid emperor alone wielded political clout and influence, the tumultuous few years of Qin reign was rife with paranoia and suspicion among the masses. Although the Qin Dynasty is seldom thought as possessing the same glaring discrepancy between ideology and state that the Communist regime in post World War II China had despite the similarities, the failure of the flawless egalitarian state models in socioeconomic and political aspects during the Qin Dynasty mirrored the developments in early Communist China. Among the key aspects of the Qin unification was the act of completely clearing all local aristocracies and uniting the peasant class into a single, mobilized workforce. Ideally, the Qin ... • 11. Nailer By John Collier Analysis This passage relates to the thematic topic of social classes. Nailer must come from an underprivileged and poverty stricken social class. He is forced to work in small, dark spaces surrounded with harmful asbestos and grime. Climbing through dark and unfamiliar ducts is dangerous and terrifying, especially for a teenager like Nailer. Nobody should be performing the difficult and risky job Nailer has. Nailer is being exposed to damaging and cancer causing asbestos which might have adverse effects on his health. If he has to work in such an unsafe and toxic setting, he must be poor and extremely desperate for a job. This passage relates to the thematic topic of trust vs. betrayal. Nailer found himself in a position that left his life in the hands of Sloth s decision. He plummeted down into an old oil reservoir and was drowning in the slick crude oil. The oil was a massive find, which could have led to an improved and prosperous life, something Nailer nor Sloth had. Sloth found him and had two choices: go back to the crew and seek help or leave Nailer to die, stealing and profiting from his discovery. Since there was a great amount of wealth and prosperity at stake, Sloth had to choose between being an honorable, trusting character or being a selfish, betraying individual. Since... Margaret Atwood begins her essay by explaining the distinction between mild pornorgraphy, which portrays the nude form and sexual activities, and violent pornography, which depicts extremely violent activities in a sexual manner. When discussing pornography, people often assume Atwood is referring to mild pornography; however, even though this pornography is considered mild by Atwood, the reactions and perspectives from people are rarely mild. • 13. Classroom Observation Report General Observation: As I entered into the science room, the students were being given a science dipstick labeled Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems . This dipstick sums up the unit that the students have been working on where they created their ecosystem posters and determined which animals belong in each ecosystem. The teacher explained to the students that she calls these dipsticks instead of tests because these documents are more focused on seeing what they took away from the unit. She then read the pages of the dipstick so that they students could pay more attention to the science than the reading. During this time the teacher explained some background information about the students overall unit and what is needed to be taught according to the science curriculum. While I was watching as the students were taking their dipstick I was able to see that some of them were able to determine the soil conditions, the climate, and explain why certain animals could or could not live in Vermont. Others focused only on the animals that could survive. A few students were able to explain why those animals belonged or didn t belong in Vermont. As students were finishing up, they were allowed to quietly read books or look at different science materials throughout the room. The teacher was even allowing them to experiment and work with the materials that were accessible to them. As we arrived back at the classroom, the students transitioned into their match ... P hilosophical Travel Journal 1 W C Patten PHL2 71 February 23, 2015 Philosophical Travel Journal I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies. Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich Nietzsche. The Republic The first society I visited was that of Plato s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that Plato structured the renowned Republic . Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. The army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it whenever necessary. The soldiers training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought up with training both in the arts and in physical exercise, Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was very confident in its guardians, knowing full well that should war be declared, it would be re solved by reason or, if all else failed, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jane Austen is a very interesting woman. She is 7 out of 8 kids. Her sister and her Cassandra were very close. Both had plenty of chances of marring and having a family. By 25, she had written 3 books, Persuasion not being one of them. She had written her last book in 1818, Persuasion. In my eyes Jane was a normal England girl. She was homed school, had a big loving family, and perused her dream. She didn t get the respect she deserved, but did write pretty good books. Since I started school, I ve always had an appreciation for academics and the various subjects that I learned. I would attribute this to the fact that I was able to work with and learn from students, teachers or friends that were passionate about a particular subject, helping me understand a subject s value even if it did not particularly interest me. By having this exposure during my formative years where I learned to think independently, I came to cherish my own education in addition to realizing the importance and value education can hold for others. As I grew older and began to think for myself, I developed an affinity towards math and science. I would attribute this to the fact that my mind is more analytical than creative, leading me to find interest in areas of study that progress logically and introduce concepts that can be built on top of each other. Once I got to high school, the science classes that I took started to utilize concepts from mathematics and vice versa. I was particularly interested when concepts and ideas stemming from a variety of fields were put together in order to accomplish something practical. I began to seek out articles and videos online to further develop my knowledge of technology and scientific phenomena. The cemetery Riverside Cemetery has existed since 1885 and was built by the Asheville Cemetery Company and in 1952 was sold to the City of Asheville. For this review I ll be focusing on the various styles of graves seen throughout the cemetery, while also emphasizing the meaning of the different artistic symbols seen. I ll also make sure to note the significant graves and mausoleums that are home to some of the most descriptive artwork. The graveyard is home to more than 14,000 graves some of which carry important meanings or information. I believe graveyards are sacred art museums and while walking through one provides a much different experience, some similarities are important for us to see. The City of Asheville s Riverside Cemetery is located in Montford, less than 2 miles from downtown. It provides over 87 acres of grounds and is a protected tree area. Today the area operates under the City of Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Looking through the various headstones, I can see many similarities among the different symbols. Looking past just the symbols we can see a level of intricate artwork laid down by the art of hand carving and engraving. Hand carving and engraving headstones is an ancient practice in which artists and craftsmen have formed extraordinary memorials from pieces of raw stone. The Enlightenment inspired language of the Declaration of Independence, namely the age old axiom that all men are created equal, pervades our perception of the American creed. However, nearly a century passed before the Lockean principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence began to bear the force of law. Entitling American citizens to due process and equal protection of the law, the Fourteenth Amendment, perhaps the most transformative Amendment of all, has inspired the steady progression of American society. THE EVOLUTION OF THE DOCTOR PATIENT RELATIONSHIP INTO MODERN TIMES With the onset of current technological innovations as well as new modern developments in the health care world, the traditional relationship doctors once had with their patients has evolved dramatically. Instead of strictly focusing on the well being of their patients, doctors now more than ever have additional roles in the health care world, from advancing patient care outside of the hospital, to becoming more informed of the for profit clinics that are readily increasing in numbers across the country. Doctors are continually trying to increase their productivity while accepting these additional roles. This expansion of the doctor s roles has led to the decrease in effectiveness in the connection with patients. Long gone are the days in which doctors took the appropriate amount of time to nurture the intimate and sacred relationship they had with their patients. Instead, doctors rush to see as many patients as possible a day, sacrificing quality of care. Currently, doctors are spread too thinly and are slowly dissolving the trust of patients. The transmission of power without wires is not a theory or a mere possibility, it is now a reality. The electrical energy can be economically transmitted without wires to any terrestrial distance, many researchers have established in numerous observations, experiments and measurements, qualitative and quantitative [5 9]. These have demonstrated that it is practicable to distribute power from a central plant in unlimited amounts, with a loss not exceeding a small fraction of one per cent, in the transmission, even to the greatest distance, twelve thousand miles to the opposite end of the globe. This seemingly impossible feat can now be readily performed by electrical researchers familiar with the design and construction of my high potential magnifying transmitter, There were three popular theories present in the literature of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. The phrase L O V E I S O N is present in the brand name, Revlon, furthermore the brand has remixed a classic song called Addicted to Love to go along with their commercial. Now repetition and popular influence has been utilized in this advertisement. Aside from that, Revlon, has used this ad campaign to associate the brand with a relatable emotion, love . They go beyond the typical definition of love to describe the progressing stages of innocence, flirting, and passion accompanied with quick and bright images/motions reenacting these emotions. Revlon accomplishes all this while displaying their products fluently (lipstick, mascara, etc.) in each love scene within the 1 minute commercial. During fifth grade, just before Thanksgiving break, I was sitting in a middle school assembly. I was reading something off of the screen, and my teacher asked me why I was squinting. I shrugged and thought nothing of it for a while. A week later, I was sitting in her class, and I had to ask about what was on the board. • 38. Mirrored Worlds There are many instances throughout literature where two pieces, told by two different narrators, and telling two different stories can be found to have similar textual qualities. This instance can be shown between A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson by Mary Rowlandson herself and Our Nig by Harriet E. Wilson. The stories depict the great suffering of two individuals who express similar qualities in their writings; the qualities being that each piece is a captivity narrative, there is a struggle with faith, and a silenced sexual subtext. The first piece by Rowlandson tells the story of a white Puritan woman. She is captured by Native Americans, and goes through many hardships as she is held against her... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second similarity between the two pieces is seen with their struggles with faith. Rowlandson starts off in the beginning of her narrative already a Puritan follower. Her plight through captivity, she says, only strengthened her faith. Many say her narrative to be a religious allegory, telling the tale of her captivity on the surface, but further looking to the deeper journey of faith that she endures. The entire narrative shows Rowlandson s religious journey, and even while looking at the twenty removes that take place, one can see that each of these removes represent the stages of her spiritual journey. Jordan Stein argues in the Historiography of Sexuality that Rowlandson, suggests that her experience displays God s truth rather than her own (483). This other major point seen in her work shows she believes her capture to have been a test of her faith by God himself. In terms of a strengthened faith that is not exactly what is found by Frado in Wilson s Our Nig. Frado starts off as having no real religious beliefs. At the Bellmonts house she soon befriends Aunt Abby and the Bellmonts son, James, who both have strong religious backgrounds. Throughout the story, both characters hope for a conversion in Frado and push with her to attend church, religious meetings, and to teach her the Bible. • 39. Natural Vs. Artificial Contraception Natural vs. Artificial Contraception: What is moral? One would think the number one issue for women s advancement in society in the twenty first century would be related to their careers: equal pay, better maternity leave, or the removal of male hierarchical structures, etc. However, feminists, certain politicians, and the media have put forward artificial contraception as the primary issue for women s liberation. They claim women have a right to choose when they become a parent and with whom. Women should have the sexual freedom of being able to engage in sex without consequences, so they assert. Artificial contraception has allowed women to be more sexually active, but has it made them freer? Catholic social teaching would answer that question in the negative. Artificial contraception has made women slaves to sexual desires and stripped them of feminine personhood. This paper will address how this objectification of women comes about from the disordered pursuit of pleasure and pervasive cultural self centeredness in artificial contraception, and how NFP avoids such harmful effects. People are formed by their actions. In our relativistic culture, we tend to think that things do not have inherent meaning, but rather that they gain their meaning from the value one places on them in terms of one s own desires (WSC, 113). • 40. Essay on 1 Kings 1 Kings Introduction In 1 Kings 18 19 we are introduced to one of the most magical men in the Bible, and to one of the greatest miracles. Along with Moses and Jesus, Elijah is among the great miracle workers of the world. Elijah used miracles to bring Israel up out of shambles, if just for a moment. He also showed extreme faith and perseverance in the face of great odds. But the true character of Elijah lies in his name, which literally means, Yahweh is my God (Anderson 246). Prelude to The Contest In order to understand chapters 18 and 19 of 1 Kings, one must get some background on its main character. In 1 Kings 17, we are first introduced to Elijah. When the meeting occurs, Ahab refers to Elijah as the troubler of Israel (1 Kings 18:17). Elijah responds by saying that Israel has brought the trouble upon themselves by worshiping Baal. This is the first statement of the reason that Elijah has been sent on this mission. Ahab is then instructed to gather all of his people and the prophets of Baal at Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18:19). It is at this point that we come to one of the most dramatic events in the entire Old Testament. One man, Elijah, challenges the most powerful king in the land and his prophets to a contest of faith. He declares that the worshipers of Baal will cut a bull into pieces and set it upon the altar of Baal. As the lone representative of Yahweh, Elijah will then cut up a bull and set it upon the altar of Yahweh. The prophets are then to call upon Baal to strike the altar with fire. Elijah will then call upon Yahweh to strike his altar with fire. The true god could then be determined. The prophets do as instructed and call upon Baal to ignite their altar. They call out and dance, but nothing happened. All the while Elijah is taunting them, asking them why Baal is not responding. Chase suffered from paranoia as a result of his schizophrenia, making him believe that there actually were Nazis trying to kill him. This inability to differentiate between fantasy and reality is significant among all psychotic serial killers. Psychotic serial killers can also be triggered by their relationships with family members and loss of close relatives, such as in the case of Ed Gein (Morrison 51). Ed Gein was also a Schizophrenic, who began digging up graves and most notably skinning his victims to make suits consisting of women s breasts and genitals (Morrison 52). People hypothesized that Gein wore these suits made from his female victims because he wanted a sex change (Brogaard). This is incorrect because in an interview with Morrison, Gein made it clear that they were wrong and they were only assumptions (quote and page). These criminal actions were triggered after the loss of his brother, father, and most importantly, his over bearing mother (Morrison 51). I will further discuss the achievement that took place since the revolutions in both countries and finally will conclude by demonstrating the effect of the Arab spring on the Muslim brotherhood. Revolution tend to occur when the basic needs of a population are not met by its government, when there is a violation of basic human rights, when there is no hope, when people are oppressed, when people are at some sort of disadvantage. According to Steven Pincus, in Rethinking Revolution: a New Tocquevillian Perspective, revolution can be defined as a rapid, judgmental and violent domestic change in the dominant values and myths of a society, in its political institutions, social structures, leadership, and government activities and policies . It is a fundamental change in power: a violent movement to overthrow an existing regime that results in major changes in the society. Revolutions have occurred throughout history, but its purpose, duration and method have varied from one country to the other. No one would have ever thought that there would be an uprising in Egypt against autocratic rule, as rulers of Egypt were smart dictators who knew well enough how to control their people.
