The Great, By Richard Bausch
Happily Never After
The universe doesn t owe you, me, or anyone a thing, except for death. Though as kids most of
us were led to believe that with enough effort and hard work were going to become whatever we
wanted to be, we were going to have whatever our little hearts desired, and we were going to do
whatever we wanted to do. However, as we grew up we realized that this is not the case. There
are millions of people who did not become professional athletes, models, or billionaires, people
who never got to have the mansions, cars, and fame that they always longed for, people who
never got to travel the world, cure cancer, or fly into space. These are all mostly childlike dreams,
which were probably imposed unto us by either our parents or society. There s nothing wrong with
children having these sort of improbable dreams, however, there comes a time where we can no
longer be children. In the story Tandolfo the Great, written by Richard Bausch, we are introduced to
Rodney Wilbury aka Tandolfo the Great, who is a suitable example to demonstrate what life can
be like for those who are unable to grow out of their childlike mind sets. In this analysis I will be
inspecting how Tandolfo the Great s childish mind set, from his strong sense of entitlement to his
inability to let go of the past events, has almost destroyed his life and how it can destroy anyone
else s.
Tandolfo the Great is a twenty six year old man, who is a part time clown that has fallen in love
with a co worker,

Had Sal known that his parachute would fail to open, he probably wouldn t have taken the sunset
drop the last drop of the day. Unfortunately, it was too late for regrets as he hurled toward an earth
indifferent to his existence. No, this isn t happening, he thought. This isn t happening at all. Half an
hour before, he d been standing on the tarmac, admiring the dwindling June sun. He d already done
several jumps that day with first timers looking to experience the thrill of jumping out of a plane.
Even though he enjoyed taking people up and seeing the satisfaction they got from skydiving for
the first time, he preferred to jump solo. For Sal, those few moments of freefall were his

He was surprised the next day when his friend showed up, telling him to get dressed as they were

be no problem. However, his nerves went haywire the moment he stepped on the plane. The
instructor s reassurances and coaxing had little effect either. When the instructor almost

The Pardoner from Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Essay
The Pardoner from Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, The Pardoner tells a story in the form of a sermon, an exemplum,
to be exact. He intends to teach the congregation that love of money is the root of all evil and that
consequences of sin is death. The symbolic function of The Old Man is debatable; is he, for
instance Death s messenger , Death himself, or a satanic figure who tempts, much in the fashion
of the Devil as serpent in the Adam and Ever story. The story is made even more complex and
ironic by the disreputable character of the Pardoner as narrator. He is an immoral man who tells a
very moral story for very immoral reasons.
The moral of the story is established through the story of the ... Show more content on

He completes their quest for death, when he informs them that he has last seen
Death under a large oak tree. The men hurry to the spot and instead find eight bushels of gold,
and decide to keep the gold. The reader is supposed to see that the money is death, and is lying at
the root of the tree, which is where we begin to form the theme, money is the root of all evil.
However, the drunken rioters do not see through this and they grow greedy and kill themselves
through trickery. They begin celebrating their fortune with bread and wine, however shortly after;
the first two rioters and the youngest rioter begin to display devilish thoughts to gain more of the
money. However the older two rioters kill the youngest because they want more money. Their
journey ends when the older two rioters decide to kill the younger rioter because they want more
money, however the younger rioter had already poisoned their wine to attempt to gain all the
money. The older two rioters drink the wine and die. Thus completing the theme, money is the root
of all evil.
After completing the tale, the reader is lead to believe that the Old
Man is none other than Death himself. The man is described as wearing a robe that covers his
entire body; much like a Grim Reaper would wear. After he is treated so badly by these men, he
just happens to lead them into a death trap, which he knows will cost nothing but problems. It is
also said that the man

The Immortality Of Hela Cells
Vishalkumar Patel
010 388 130
The Immortality of HeLa Cells God created everything good and men s efforts towards creativity by
using technology makes it better. Tissue culture is the technique that involves removal of cells,
tissues or organs from the animal or plant and their subsequent placement in to an artificial
environment suitable for their growth, which mimic the in vivo environment from which it derived.
In culture, cancer cells can grow indefinitely, if they have continuous supply of nutrients and
environmental conditions and thus it called immortal , and cells from this tissue called cell line
(Skloot,5). One of the important things that revolutionize the medical field was HeLa cell line
derived from cervical cancer cells of Henrietta Lacks a black African American woman died at
12:15 a.m. on October 4, 1951(Skloot,86). Dr. Wharton had shaved a dime sized tissue from her
cervical tumor and that tissue was given to the Dr. George Gey who was the head of tissue
culture research at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Skloot,33). George was a first person who developed
the technique to grow HeLa cells form cervical tissue of Henrietta Lacks in his lab and given the
name HeLa after the first two initials of Henrietta s first and last names (Skloot,37).
In order to determine function of cells and to evaluate certain theory concerning the cause and
treatments of disease, cell line needed for that must have immortal property means able to grow
indefinitely. However, the normal

The Fascination Of War Literature
War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there
are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is
endless. My fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what
he went through in the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back
are not the same as when they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been
through while at war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to
have the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to
tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the story they are re living the
story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling stories without having to go through
counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak
out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is
mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to
figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the meaning
behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a solider himself.
When one should read about war literature they should take into consideration of how hard it might
have been for the person to talk

Plagiarism In The Bedford Researcher, By Mike Palmquist
In The Bedford Researcher, Mike Palmquist (2015), identifies the consequences regarding work
that has been plagiarized, and plagiarism is taken very seriously, because it guards intellectual
property, and recognizes academic work has owners, this protects an author s time and energy that
is invested into creating a document (p. 127). Plagiarism can be an accidental or deliberate use of
someone s else s ideas, thoughts, writings, and evidence without giving credit to the
source(Palmquist, 2015, p. 127). According to Palmquist (2015), accidental or unintentional
plagiarism is the most frequent form of plagiarism, which is caused by an author failing to cite the
sources they used within their work correctly, therefore failing to recognize

The Man Eaters Of Tsavo Analysis
The Man Eaters of Tsavo, by John Henry Patterson, describes the terrorizing effect of a pair of
man eating lions on a camp of railroad workers in 1898 East Africa. Patterson s memoir
demonstrates the difficulties and influences that imperialistic Great Britain had over the Africans,
and faced many issues while trying to develop the infrastructure of the continent in order to take
advantage of the wealth and natural resources in the interior of Africa.
Throughout the story, Patterson always wanted to be in power which represented how Great
Britain wanted to be the most powerful nation in the old world, especially over all of the other
imperialistic nations. For example, Great Britain judged the African people because they hardly
wore any clothes, but in reality, that was due to the harsh climate they lived in. In addition, Great
Britain wanted to civilize the African peoples because they viewed them as uncivilized, due to their

The British hired David Livingstone to travel all parts of Africa to describe all of the unknown
territory where no one had ever gone before. Livingstone also made maps of everywhere he went
so that the British would know where to navigate if they ever decided to go further into the
interior of Africa. However, David Livingstone could represent John Henry Patterson s expedition
of Africa because Patterson described all of the unknown landscape that other Europeans never
knew existed. Another reason for Great Britain not having to explore the inner parts of Africa was
that disease had stalled them. In addition, many of the British people were not immune to the bugs
that carried certain type of diseases, while the African peoples were immune. For example, a
mosquito that carried malaria could quickly put an end to one s

A Research On Memory Strategies
Memory Strategies
Total time hypothesis maintains the retention rate of information is directly correlated to how
much and long one studies what he/she endeavors to learn (Matlin, 2012). The distributed practice
effect is the spreading of one s learning trials over time rather than cramming a large amount of
content into a minuscule interval of time (Matlin, 2012). The testing effect argues that taking a test
or practice test boosts long term memory for academic material (Matlin, 2012). These three memory
improvement strategies emphasize on aspects of practice in order to enhance the memory that one
can use in everyday life. John is a junior at Grand Canyon University majoring in Christian Studies
and Psychology. In order for John to maintain good grades in his classes, John takes advantage of
the distributed practice effect, total time hypothesis, and testing effect to ensure he exceeds his
exams.
Total time Hypothesis
Total time hypothesis simply says how much somebody learns depends on the time devoted to
learning (Matlin, 2012). In general cases, this hypothesis has been proven valid and it is common
for people to assume. However, there are many issues with this idea. This method focuses on the
quantity aspects of studying instead of the quality of studying. Researchers contend the number of
hours spent studying is not a variable that can be used to predict the grade point average of a
student (Matlin, 2012). For many students, reading and rereading their lecture notes

Freedom Writers Reflection
In the movie freedom writers kids learn to be tolerant and respect others for their color and race. It
shows how these kids from the streets improve and change their perspective on color. The help from
their teacher Ms. Gruwell really inspired and changed them. In their minds everything is about
color. Slowly throughout the movie they changeand accept others.
In the beginning of the movie Erin Gruwell the new teacher is excited happy and tolerant of
everyone. Her husband and she are happy and he supports her teaching her new class. On the
other hand, Eva, a girl who at first had no tolerance for others and based everything off color had
a father who was in jail and lived just with her mother. Her whole life was dedicated to the gang
life that was basically her family. She s not excited about school and could really care less. In the
middle of them movie Erin s husband starts to get annoyed and insults those kids who are
learning tolerance. The kids are doing fine and are really changing already. Ms. Gruwell has
come home late from school and her husband is blaming it on the kids which leads to his
annoyance. In Eva s life she is struggling because she is changing and doesn t know if she should
lie to protect her boyfriend or let the guy falsely accused free. She has so much guilt because she
knows the right thing to do but since it s her boyfriend and shell get punished by her gang she s
having a hard time. Erin s family is also struggling because her husband is leaving

An Actor Prepares By Constantin Stanislavski
All I can do is to help you feel what it is. Even to do that requires great patience, for I shall devote
our whole course to it. Or, to be more exact, it will appear by itself after you have studied our whole
system of acting and after you yourselves have made the experiment of initiating, clarifying,
transforming, simple everyday human realities into crystals of artistic truth. Teacher Mr. Tortsov,
teaches his students the fundaments in acting and how to be successful in its art, in Constantin
Stanislavskis eye opening book, An ActorPrepares. Throughout reading his book, I learned three
main lessons: how the outside impression of an actor looks or how the audience perceives them, the
inner motivation and structure of an actor, and lastly, acting is an art and properly portraying a
character through the art form.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An Actor Prepares teaches an actor that everything needs to be justified and motivated. Whether
that be through analyzing the text for overall theme, adaption to responses done by our scene
partners or ensemble, being natural with movements and not mechanical, or working out the
overall objective of the play. Analyzing the text of the play influences the character s motivation.
If a character is going over to another character s house for no reason other than to hang out, then
it slows down the pace of the show down and puts a stop in the energy of the show. Channeling
the normal person inside myself, provides a more relatable character to the audience member. The
overall objective of the show provides a reason or lesson for the whole play. The sooner I, as an
actor, understand and determine the objective, I can better play the character s motivation and drive

A Thematic Analysis Of N By Joriah
A resilient female fighter leads a mission of peace, but her quest becomes a pursuit of revenge
against a malevolent dictator.
STORY COMMENTS
TERRATOO: RETURN TO EARTH (version 6) is a sci fi, action thriller that explores the moral
argument about man s nature for war over man s desire for peace. This is exactly what the
heroine is forced to confront. She s a woman of peace, but her life is turned upside down when she
has to declare war on a worthy adversary.
Solid themes about destiny, revenge, and freedom drive the plot, as well as saving humanity.
The highlight of the story is the presences of two resilient females that go up against each other.

The idea of him killing Angelique s mother makes him deadly and ruthless, but the dialogue hinders
the scene.
The idea of Chris attempting to open the Joriah program and later he does, unfortunately really
doesn t engage the audience. The audience, who doesn t know the twist, doesn t really understand
what he s doing.
One assumes this is how he learns about Beth, but one has to ask what is the purpose of Chris
knowing if nothing becomes of it. If it were the enemy who came upon the origins of her birth
and then used it against her one could see a possible reason for a scene like this. Chris knowing
and not telling her actually in some ways brings up more questions than answers. Either his
snooping around and unlocking the program should have a payoff, or it should be cut.
One way to make this a payoff is for Chris to blurt the truth out to Beth vs. Joriah. Beth doesn t
believe him and goes to Joriah who finally tells Beth the truth. This could add conflict for Chris
and Beth. She could also question why Chris cares for her is it because she s different.
There remains some non essential dialogue and scenes in the first act about cooking/eating/the

The Field Of Medicine Study Biology
[T]raditional education has students focusing on one career at a time, generally encompassing a
very specific field of interest. Students interested in the field of medicine study biology and don t
generally study much outside of science. Or, students interested in music study musical theory and
learn several different instruments they don t cross over into other fields of thought. This type of
learning, however, really doesn t reflect the way the world works. It doesn t even properly reflect
human experience: many students are puzzled when it comes to choosing a field of study. They
settle on one because there hasn t been an option available that combines their interests in a
practical way, or it simply isn t shown to them.
The interactions of this world, however, revolve around many different fields of thought
combining and working together. People nowadays need to be educated in a way that properly
represents this experience: the big picture experience. They need to be able to look to the future,
expand horizons, and combine fields of interest and thought to reach a new level of innovation in
today s world.
In the fall of 2014, a new undergraduate program was created for just this kind of education. The
University of Southern California has established the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Ocean
The pacific islands are known for being especially beautiful and the image of relaxation; palm trees,
white sand beaches, smiling faces, and crystal blue water. When acknowledging this, it is hard to
imagine that the islands are currently dealing with the changing climate s negative effects. Climate
change is the largest environmental issue currently affecting the earth where humans are referred to
as frogs slowly cooking in a pot.[1] Despite the common knowledge that the earth s atmosphere is
heating to a dangerous level, humanity seems to be adapting to the changes in temperature, much
like a boiling frog would before it is much too late. The same could be said about the Pacific islands
in that they aren t receiving enough help to deal with the increasing heat. Although climate change
affects the earth as a whole, the Pacific Islands are more likely to feel its effects much quicker
and are less likely to be able to deal with them on their own. It is very important to understand the
impact it has on the people and their livelihoods, as well as the physical effects on the islands and
their economy.
Being that more developed western countries don t feel the immediate effects of climate change
such as sea level rise and dangerous weather changes, their feelings towards its toll on the Pacific
Islands are not often considered. Despite this, there are organisations dedicated to helping the
islands in many ways including preparations for the future. It is not the help the

Stating female down is not an appropriate way to communicate, as the listener has no idea what

been more effective. The communication technology used is important and should be incorporated
as part of a public communication strategic plan. There were a number of communication issues,

Companies are ordinarily looking for those with about 2 3 years of experience before hiring
them. This is why internships are useful. Also, some jobs that are related to the job of financial

usually start out their finance careers by going into retail at a young age. Then, common next
step up would to work at a bank to express an interest in finance. Later on, someone might work

The Obesity Epidemic Of Obesity Essay
Introduction
Obesity is becoming an outrageous and alarming health issue in today s society. Children are
rapidly getting engulfed by this pandemic every day. According to the book Public Health 101:
Health People Healthy Populations, pandemic can be defined as, An epidemic occurring
worldwide, or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries and affecting a large number
of people (Riegelman, Kirkwood, 2015). The World HealthOrganization estimates that 43 million
children worldwide are overweight or obese, with the United States leading the numbers (WHO,
2016). About one in three children and teenagers in America are obese. Obesity can lead to a
variety of other serious health issues, such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, high blood pressure,
and other health risks. Finding effective interventions and programs to reverse obesity rates is
essential. Obesity is one hundred percent preventable and treatable.
Intervention Strategy 1: Obesity Prevention Programs
Childhood obesity is continuing to grow at a rapid and dangerous pace. It is vital for the
population to be educated on practicing a healthy life style to prevent obesity. A study done by C.

The Pursuit Of Grammatical Perfection Is Necessary For
The pursuit of grammatical perfection is necessary for all English majors. Frivolous mistakes, such
as incorrect verb tenses or sentence fragments, can easily make an English major appear
unprofessional and unskilled. It is therefore vital to learn and relearn the rules of the English
language to save oneself from embarrassment in a professional environment. A simple grammatical
mistake, for example, may turn into habit. I identify with this group that requires a refreshment of
the rules of grammar on occasion. Ultimately, throughout the duration of this eight week course, I
have become more conscious of my writing and the errors I had been making and my handle of
grammatical elements in the English language has decidedly improved.... Show more content on

Week one contained the first topic I found difficulty with: linguists versus grammarians. Although I
quickly grasped the definition and purpose of grammarians, identifying the same for linguists was
difficult. Initially, I was slightly concerned about whether I would actually perform well in this
course, like I had with previous English courses. Even after posting in the discussion topics and
completing the assigned quizzes for the week, I still felt uncomfortable with the subject. Rather than
simply reading and rereading the topic notes, I took a different route and did further research.
Now, between the reading provided in the course content as well as additional articles, I can
explain the difference between a linguist and a grammarian with confidence. A few weeks later, I
found myself confused, again, as I took notes during week five. Independent, dependent,
restrictive, and nonrestrictive clauses were a breeze for me, but the range of other clauses
stumped me. Although I briefly learned about noun clauses in high school, I had completely
forgotten the instruction I once received. This, however, was quickly remedied by the previously
mentioned method further research. Unfortunately, the second quiz for week five proved to me
that I had not quite grasped the differences between transitive and intransitive verbs, as proven by
a score of fifty five percent on quiz 5.2. This difficulty would come back to haunt me later on in

Solar Energy Research Papers
In todays economic state, our reliance on sustainable resources is paramount. With more than 7
billion people feeding off of the planets resources, we must create and innovate different
technologies and methods to effectively use Earth s natural resources without creating a carbon
footprint. One of the greatest issues of our time surrounds the environmental impact humans are
having on our planet and the major consequences in which we must deal with in order to save
the planet. One technique that this paper will focus on is the use of solar panels to convert light
energy from the sun into electrical energy. Brief History Solar technology can be dated all the
way from 7th century B.C. Early uses included using reflective properties to direct sunlight to
create energy (heat) to a specific area. In 1838 French scientist Edmond Becquerel discovered the
photovoltaic effect which involved an electrolytic cell submerged in a solution, that when exposed
to light, created energy. This discovery made way for Charles Fritts (1894) to create the first solar
cell, which consists of a coating semiconductor material with a thin layer of gold. This first solar
cell was only 1% efficient so energy production was not viable; put into perspective, today s solar
technology is 46% efficient. Solar Technology and How it Relates to Green Construction There is
two ways to convert sun energy into energy we can use: solar photovoltaic and solar thermal. Solar

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality Theory
MBTI Jackelyn Rivera Ferreyra Argosy University, 2017 Page Break The Myers Briggs Type
Indicator Personality (MBTI) was developed by Briggs Myers and her mother Katharine Cook
Briggs in 1943 during the onset of World War II (Ham, 2016). Briggs recognized the need for
psychological instruments that would value human differences and utilized the C G Jungs
theory in creating the MBTI (The Story of Isabel Briggs Myers, n.d). According to The Myers
Briggs Foundation (2014) Myers and Briggs initially tested a group of 20 relatives and friends.
They utilized such sample, because they thought they could predict their personality solemnly on

population, but merely were used due to availability. At the beginning, the MBTI was only used
in adults (The Myers Briggs Foundation, 2014). In 1944 the form C of the MBTI instruments
was developed, which was used as employment screening. As Myers continued to expand her
instrument she applied it to the medical field. In 1951 she tested 5,355 medical students at 45
medical schools, to analyze satisfactory in the field, such reports were presented at the American
Psychological Association conference in 1964 (The Myers Briggs Foundation, 2014). In 1962 she
published the MBTI strictly for research usage, it categorizes participants into one of 16

Satao the world s largest African elephant and one of the last surviving great tuskers was found
dead in Tsavo National Park, Kenya in June 2014. Satao was famous for its huge tusks that

tusks hacked off was left for vultures and scavengers. Poachers had killed Satao with poisoned

The elephants once roamed around the continents of Africa and Asia in abundance. Growing
numbers of human population, environment and climate change has played vital role in the loss of
their natural habitat resulting in the decline of elephant population. At the beginning of the 20th
century, there were few million African elephants and over 100,000 Asian elephants. Today, their
estimated numbers range from 450,000 to 700,000 for African elephants and 35,000 to 40,000 for
Asian elephants.
Like most animals, elephants also play significant role in the ecosystem. The elephants help
maintain suitable habitats for other species. They pull down trees, clear out heavy bushes, dig
waterholes and create openings in the dense forests. Several tree species rely entirely upon elephant
droppings for seed dispersal and germination. Elephants require larger habitats to maintain food
supply that has brought them in direct competition with human race for living space. The ever
increasing human population has pushed elephants into smaller areas, exposing them to human
contact and hindering their freedom to roam. When humans and elephants live close together, the
herds of elephants crossing can damage crops and villages. Such incidents lead to conflicts with
humans in which elephants constantly lose and are killed.

Mayans, Aztecs And Mayan Civilizations
Did you know that the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas had very advanced civilizations? They all
built great cities and developed extremely advanced civilizations. Each developed a

there was the king, then the nobles. Below the nobles was the middle class made up of priests
and commoners; slaves made up the lowest level. The society was prosperous until around AD
800. The Mayans decline is thought to have been caused be the large growth in population. There
was not enough farmers or land to provide enough food for the communities. In the reading
Mayan Civilization by Suzanne Hopkins it says, Food production plummeted, and famine forced
people to leave the urban centers (57). By AD 950, the cities were mostly abandoned, swallowed

Philip Larkin s Church Going
Larkin s Church Going : A Failed Exploration for Religious Faith
Murdoch s artistic and natural beauty critique, called The Sovereignty of Good and Other
Concepts, quotes Plato s belief that beauty is the only spiritual thing we love by instinct.
Therefore, beauty is the only spiritual connection Atheist Philip Larkin seeks in a church.
Larkin s poem Church Going, begins as a confessional since he mentions how he often stops at
random churches, perhaps because he is searching for a place of worship that is beautiful, both
naturally and artistically. In other words, in the nature of the church he is looking for a warm
group of people, rather than an uptight group. As for artistic beauty, Larkin is searching for

Larkin imagines when the time will come that religion dies completely, and those churches that
are not kept to par for tourism will be abandoned until weathering dissolves the physical remains
of religion. Once Larkin noticed the failure in natural beauty, his train of thought is catalyzed by
the failure of the church to provide artistic beauty. For art to pass as beautiful, it must be good art,
which Murdoch says, reveals what we are usually too selfish and too timid to recognize. By finding
beautiful, religious scriptures that are blunt about the ambiguity of life and death, rather than
romanticized, Larkin will find a trustworthy place of worship and at last, a spiritual connection.
Beauty does not depend on whether the art is positive or negative, but on the honesty of the
statement. The lines, Yet stop I did: in fact I often do,/ And always end much at a loss like

Differences Between American And Spanish
Everyone is different in their own way, we all come from different backgrounds. While that is

different holidays that are either changed or added due to the seasons of the year. Since I am both

Uniquely, it is the way you pronounce certain words to how you say certain things that can mean
one thing for one culture but something else for another. Coupled with that fact that Spanish
alone has a lot of ways of saying a certain word whether you use the female or male pronouns of a
certain word can determine exactly who you re talking to. On the other hand, English is very
centered on saying things in a very indirect way which isn t bad but English tends to be calmer
compared to Spanish. For example, saying hello to someone in English is calmer compared to
saying it in Spanish where it s more emotionally forward. Not only that, but Spanish is about
speaking in more with emotion and interest. While, English is more about talking in a more
general and openly passive means. To be able to speak both Spanish and English can be a
challenge due to the way you say something in English can accidently have the tone from
Spanish which may be seen as too over excited. By the same token, it can be the same thing

France s Recent Economic Activity
Global Business Context Assignment 2008 Part 1: France s economic performance over the last 40
years can be illustrated using three main macroeconomic variables; unemployment, inflation and
GDP. When comparing them against each other, we can explain the relationships between each
variable. (A table of the variables can be found in the appendix.) This graph shows that although
there appears to be no direct relationship between GDP and unemployment until after around 1986,
a correlation begins after this point. As we would expect to see, GDP increases as the rate of
unemployment falls and vice versa. Unemployment has been increasing since 1970 and continued

This part of supply side policy leads to a more efficient use of resources within the public sector
and simultaneously, a reduction in its size. It should allow for investment to increase with no

feature heavily in supply side policy and were a key component of the Thatcher and Major
governments between 1979 and 1997. Sarkozy has also proposed tax cuts, capping income tax
at 50% for the highest earners. Twinned with making the 35 hour week more flexible by
including tax free overtime in his policy, this reinforces Sarkozy s slogan, work more to earn

Introducing technology to sports would result in frequent stoppages during games, and would take
away from the excitement of the matches.
Although many argue that technology will make decisions in sports more accurate, it is
believed that human error actually makes sports more exciting. Errors made by referees can
create make games more engaging for viewers and fun to watch. Next, technology puts a lot of
pressure on referees to make correct calls. Refereeing is a stressful job by itself, and technology
would put more stress on referees. Fans, because of available technology, will begin to lose
respect for referees if they make mistakes. In addition, sports are a human activity, and should
remain this way. FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke says that, we should trust and keep football
as a human game ( Goal line... ). Also, introduction of technology into sports would miss a huge
opportunity to educate people about the role of uncertainty in science (Pielke). Lastly, use of
technology would increase the risk of hacking and fake video footage (Pielke). In conclusion,
human error is an essential part of sports, and eliminating mistakes by introducing technology
would make sports less exciting and appealing.

How Chameleons Are Cruel Little Predators
Chameleons are cruel little predators. They hunt bugs, birds, mice and even other chameleons using
only one weapon: their tongues. A recent study explains exactly how these weapons work so
effectively.
To find out, the researchers collected a saliva sample from the most common type of chameleon,
Chamaeleo calyptratus. Next, they rolled a bead on a tilted plate, which had been soaked in the
saliva. That let them measure how much the saliva slowed the bead s descent, therefore allowing
them to calculate the spit s stickiness.
Chameleons saliva, it turns out, is about 400 times more sticky than human saliva. This allows the
hungry reptile to catch prey up to a third of its body weight and keep hold of the prey even as its

The Text Of The Meno By Plato
In the text of the Meno by Plato, the dialogue develops and attempts to answer the question of what
virtue is, and whether it is teachable. The paradox explained can be used to discuss merely
anything, and we can thus say that either one knows or does not know. If a person knows, then they
cannot investigate or question their knowledge. However, if a person does not know, they cannot
inquire about it which means a person cannot question for not knowing what they do not know.
Platogoes ahead and resolves the paradox in the Meno by saying that, one would not seek what
he knows, for since he knows it there is no need of the inquiry, nor what he does not know, for in
that case he does not even know what he is to look for. (Meno 80E)
The Meno dialogue elaborates that in order to understand ways of finding the diagonal of a
given square, a person needs to prompt knowledge that is concealed to the source. The Meno
clearly states that knowledge is an essence to belief. Therefore, what matters and draws an ethical
line between belief and knowledge is justification. If a person knows and believes, then it is not
enough for one to justify it solely on those means. The Meno dialogue explains that in knowledge,
a belief needs an account to tie it down and set a better example.
The Platonic theory of forms that Plato raised relies on the belief that the forms or ideas and not
the materialistic example or material is the highest most fundamental kind of reality. He uses the
principle of

The use of ceremonial matcha green tea and the spread of Chanoyu came from the Genroku epoch
Tokugawa period. Traditions must be met when performing tea ceremonies because it is a craft
symbolism and abstractness lies within chanoyu (Garett Berriault, 2005). Matcha green tea is the
powder used in these tea ceremonies, it must be high grade matcha in order to pass tea ceremonies.
Creating high standards for this tea ceremony ensures the quality that hosts must obtain when
performing this respected tradition. Matcha powder came from the Eisai or Tosai in early
Kamakura period and was transmitted from China but then evolved to chanoyu (tea ceremony) in
Japan. During the postwar era in Japan, non dominant social groups belonged to women (Chan,

participate or wanted to become a host during the era, the non dominant social groups that belonged
to women joined in. With the integration being in place, this gave women in Japan the opportunity
to become hosts to stand with samurais, in a patriarchal country. Given this opportunity, the women
found power in tea ceremonies. This sparked the women s empowerment movement in postwar
Japan because they were being looked upon as if they were equal and integrated within the
community, they were no longer looked at as homemakers and housewives that belonged in the

Paul s Case is a short story by Willa Cather that was written in 1905. Paul is boy in high school
that has many behavior problems. He strives for attention so badly that he feels that he needs to
show out in order to receive the recognition that he wants, especially from his father. Willa Cather
uses symbolism in her short storyto develop the tragic demise of Paul. The symbolism used in the
first paragraph is repeated throughout the story. The red carnation that Paul has placed in the
buttonhole symbolizes his unreal desire to become recognized. The carnation is very flamboyant
and is not appropriate attire for the discipline meeting that Paul is having with the principal of his
school and all of his teachers that also have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one side of the glass is the harsh reality that is Paul s life, while on the other side is the fantasy
that Paul pictures himself fitting into.
The flowers in the story symbolize Paul s place in the dream. He sees himself as the final piece
his perfect life. When Paul comes arrives in the city, he spots that there are not any flowers in his
room and orders for someone to retrieve some. Paul places them in water, and then gets into a
bath himself. When he was shown to his sitting room on the eighth floor, he saw at a glance that
was as it should be; there was but one detail in his mental picture that the place did not realize, so
he rang for the bell boy and sent him down for flowers... When the flowers came, he put them
hastily into water, and then tumbled into a hot bath (544 545). Paul feels like the flowers are
needed to complete the mental image he has of his perfect life. In the room, there were no flowers,
showing that Paul was not in the dream. His getting the flowers, symbolizes that he had finally
placed himself in the dream.
Towards the end of the story, Paul takes a walk in the park where he sees flowers blooming in a
glass case. This symbolizes that it is not possible for Paul s dream to be actuality , or at least under
his circumstances. Here and there on the corners were stands, with whole flower gardens booming
under glass cases, against the sides of which the snow flakes stuck and melted; violets, roses,

Social Aggression Analysis
Victims of social aggression suffer from extreme loneliness that comes with social isolation.
There social interactions with peers often is limited to unpleasant, forced interactions used to put
on a good face in front of overlooking adults. Caroline was a bright, bubbly child who had little
difficulty making friends before social isolating behaviors were directed her way (Bright, 2005).
Due to limited supplies and the collaborative nature of lab work in science classes, student spend a
great deal of time working in groups. To maximize learning, students need to feel comfortable and
confident sharing ideas and information their tablemates. They must learn to rely on each other and
respect each group member as part of their diverse learning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Severe mental and physical health issues need to be handled by healthcare professionals, but
being able to identify the warning signs is key for teachers. Student with low self esteem have
difficulty concentrating, avoid peers, and constantly seek teachers approval. They may
completely withdraw from schoolwork or turn in assignment late or incomplete. Reinforce
classroom expectations for creating a safe environment to the students individually and as a
whole class. Monitor collaborative work closely and look for any signs of overly nice behaviors
or exclusion. Have an open door policy to let students know that you are available if they are
having problems. These strategies can help lessen a student s anxiety, but it is crucial to seek help

The Causes And Effects Of The Subprime Crisis
Subprime crisis has grabbed public s attention when a significant rise in home foreclosures in
2006 seemingly out of control in 2007 and eventually the collapse of lending industries and
hedge funds has occurred. Subprime crisis is defined as a situation whereby borrowers being
approved for loans they could not afford for repayment which affecting the mortgage industry.
Fair value accounting has been in the center of criticism in this financial earthquake. It is
blamed as main cause of Subprime crisis and led to a financial meltdown. Instead of blaming fair
value accounting, in my opinion there are some possible causes of the crisis can be identified and
to be debated upon. First and foremost, most of the blame can be pointed at the lenders who lent
money to the poor credit and high default risk borrowers. Due to the easy availability of the
subprime credit, there was an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, subprime lending allows the borrowers to be able to make purchases for houses
through housing loan on easy terms and conditions, which in turn enhanced the home ownership in
the bubble year. This is in line with the conclusion of Whalen (2008). According to Whalen (2008),
the odious partnership of home building, banks, real estate companies, and GSEs which was formed
to support affordable housing was the main cause of the subprime credit crisis.
The housing bubble was also considered as one of the causes of the subprime crisis. A housing
bubble is caused by tremendous increases in the real property valuation until reaching unsustainable
levels relative to incomes and other affordability indexes. The perception of generations of
consumers believed that not only would the values of home not decline, but that the home values
will continue to rise in the future.

Hurricane Katrina Essay
Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast with tremendous force at daybreak, August 29, 2005,
severely punishing regions that included the city of New Orleans and its neighboring state
Mississippi. Resulting in a total of just over 1700 people killed, and hundreds of thousands missing.
When we think of Hurricane Katrinastories, we think of stories that were published by the media
such as, Packing 145 mile an hour winds as it made landfall, the category 3 storm left more than a
million people in three states without power and submerged highways even hundreds of miles from
its center. The hurricane s storm surge a 29 foot wall of water pushed ashore when the hurricane
struck the Gulf Coast was the highest ever measured in the United States.... Show more content on

During the crisis of Hurricane Katrina many survivors experience forces far beyond natural
causes, some may call this animosity. In response to the increasingly desperate survivors search
for food and water, the government has issued a defacto martial law, with soldiers and police
enforcing a shoot to kill policy, forcing the entire New Orleans area to descend into chaos.
Disturb by this atrocious outcome, Egger describes these actions as a legacy of the war on
terror, has the mentality that an overwhelming military response was the solution to a
humanitarian crisis (Egger 125) as he shines light on the inhumane behavior of the United States
government. Research shows that many government officials and contractors had been sent into
New Orleans to re establish order, and help evacuate survivors, but for most survivors that was
not the case. As stated by Eggers, long time Muslim New Orleans resident Zeitoun, was forced
out his home by government officials with guns and was threatened to be shot even after he
showed his I.D. confirming he is a United States Citizen and a New Orleans resident. Egger gives
us a brief taste of government animosity, as Zeitoun arrived on dry land, and was immediately
handcuffed and thrown in a white van. As seen in the evidence above, we begin to see the
transition Egger is making to expose his point of view that this is no different from a typical Katrina

  • 2. The Great, By Richard Bausch Happily Never After The universe doesn t owe you, me, or anyone a thing, except for death. Though as kids most of us were led to believe that with enough effort and hard work were going to become whatever we wanted to be, we were going to have whatever our little hearts desired, and we were going to do whatever we wanted to do. However, as we grew up we realized that this is not the case. There are millions of people who did not become professional athletes, models, or billionaires, people who never got to have the mansions, cars, and fame that they always longed for, people who never got to travel the world, cure cancer, or fly into space. These are all mostly childlike dreams, which were probably imposed unto us by either our parents or society. There s nothing wrong with children having these sort of improbable dreams, however, there comes a time where we can no longer be children. In the story Tandolfo the Great, written by Richard Bausch, we are introduced to Rodney Wilbury aka Tandolfo the Great, who is a suitable example to demonstrate what life can be like for those who are unable to grow out of their childlike mind sets. In this analysis I will be inspecting how Tandolfo the Great s childish mind set, from his strong sense of entitlement to his inability to let go of the past events, has almost destroyed his life and how it can destroy anyone else s. Tandolfo the Great is a twenty six year old man, who is a part time clown that has fallen in love with a co worker, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, it was too late for regrets as he hurled toward an earth indifferent to his existence. No, this isn t happening, he thought. This isn t happening at all. Half an hour before, he d been standing on the tarmac, admiring the dwindling June sun. He d already done several jumps that day with first timers looking to experience the thrill of jumping out of a plane. Even though he enjoyed taking people up and seeing the satisfaction they got from skydiving for the first time, he preferred to jump solo. He was surprised the next day when his friend showed up, telling him to get dressed as they were going that very day. The instructor s reassurances and coaxing had little effect either. When the instructor almost threatened to throw him out, he jumped. After that, he was hooked. As the distance between him and the earth lessened, he became overwhelmed as he tried to think of all the people in his life he d never see again: his fiancГ©e, his mother and father, his brother whom he hadn t spoken to in over three years. • 4. The Pardoner from Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Essay The Pardoner from Chaucer s Canterbury Tales In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, The Pardoner tells a story in the form of a sermon, an exemplum, to be exact. He intends to teach the congregation that love of money is the root of all evil and that consequences of sin is death. The symbolic function of The Old Man is debatable; is he, for instance Death s messenger , Death himself, or a satanic figure who tempts, much in the fashion of the Devil as serpent in the Adam and Ever story. The story is made even more complex and ironic by the disreputable character of the Pardoner as narrator. He is an immoral man who tells a very moral story for very immoral reasons. The moral of the story is established through the story of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He completes their quest for death, when he informs them that he has last seen Death under a large oak tree. The men hurry to the spot and instead find eight bushels of gold, and decide to keep the gold. The reader is supposed to see that the money is death, and is lying at the root of the tree, which is where we begin to form the theme, money is the root of all evil. However, the drunken rioters do not see through this and they grow greedy and kill themselves through trickery. They begin celebrating their fortune with bread and wine, however shortly after; the first two rioters and the youngest rioter begin to display devilish thoughts to gain more of the money. However the older two rioters kill the youngest because they want more money. Their journey ends when the older two rioters decide to kill the younger rioter because they want more money, however the younger rioter had already poisoned their wine to attempt to gain all the money. The older two rioters drink the wine and die. Thus completing the theme, money is the root of all evil. After completing the tale, the reader is lead to believe that the Old Man is none other than Death himself. The man is described as wearing a robe that covers his entire body; much like a Grim Reaper would wear. After he is treated so badly by these men, he just happens to lead them into a death trap, which he knows will cost nothing but problems. It is also said that the man ... • 5. The Immortality Of Hela Cells Vishalkumar Patel 010 388 130 The Immortality of HeLa Cells God created everything good and men s efforts towards creativity by using technology makes it better. Tissue culture is the technique that involves removal of cells, tissues or organs from the animal or plant and their subsequent placement in to an artificial environment suitable for their growth, which mimic the in vivo environment from which it derived. In culture, cancer cells can grow indefinitely, if they have continuous supply of nutrients and environmental conditions and thus it called immortal , and cells from this tissue called cell line (Skloot,5). One of the important things that revolutionize the medical field was HeLa cell line derived from cervical cancer cells of Henrietta Lacks a black African American woman died at 12:15 a.m. on October 4, 1951(Skloot,86). Dr. Wharton had shaved a dime sized tissue from her cervical tumor and that tissue was given to the Dr. George Gey who was the head of tissue culture research at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Skloot,33). George was a first person who developed the technique to grow HeLa cells form cervical tissue of Henrietta Lacks in his lab and given the name HeLa after the first two initials of Henrietta s first and last names (Skloot,37). • 7. The Fascination Of War Literature War is full of death and destruction, it is full of a lot of things including literature. In war there are no rules, the same is for literature there are no rules the possibility of what to write about is endless. My fascination of war truly began when my grandfather started to open up about what he went through in the Vietnam War. Most soldiers who have went to war and have come back are not the same as when they left. It is very hard for them to talk about what they have been through while at war, but when they talk one should listen because they may never be able to have the strength to tell that story again. One may not realize how much it takes for a Veteran to tell a story of what they went through, because as they are telling the story they are re living the story mentally. Most soldiers are not capable of telling stories without having to go through counseling. In most cases if a soldier was to try to tell a story without counseling, they will freak out thinking they are back in the place that brought them the trauma. In today s world it is mandatory for Veterans to receive counseling to help them with their trauma instead of trying to figure it out their selves. Therefore, war literature is very important because of the meaning behind it all. We should give respect to war literature, especially if it comes from a solider himself. When one should read about war literature they should take into consideration of how hard it might have been for the person to talk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patterson s memoir demonstrates the difficulties and influences that imperialistic Great Britain had over the Africans, and faced many issues while trying to develop the infrastructure of the continent in order to take advantage of the wealth and natural resources in the interior of Africa. Throughout the story, Patterson always wanted to be in power which represented how Great Britain wanted to be the most powerful nation in the old world, especially over all of the other imperialistic nations. For example, Great Britain judged the African people because they hardly wore any clothes, but in reality, that was due to the harsh climate they lived in. The distributed practice effect is the spreading of one s learning trials over time rather than cramming a large amount of content into a minuscule interval of time (Matlin, 2012). The testing effect argues that taking a test or practice test boosts long term memory for academic material (Matlin, 2012). These three memory improvement strategies emphasize on aspects of practice in order to enhance the memory that one can use in everyday life. John is a junior at Grand Canyon University majoring in Christian Studies and Psychology. In order for John to maintain good grades in his classes, John takes advantage of the distributed practice effect, total time hypothesis, and testing effect to ensure he exceeds his exams. Total time Hypothesis Total time hypothesis simply says how much somebody learns depends on the time devoted to learning (Matlin, 2012). In general cases, this hypothesis has been proven valid and it is common for people to assume. However, there are many issues with this idea. This method focuses on the quantity aspects of studying instead of the quality of studying. Students interested in the field of medicine study biology and don t generally study much outside of science. Or, students interested in music study musical theory and learn several different instruments they don t cross over into other fields of thought. This type of learning, however, really doesn t reflect the way the world works. It doesn t even properly reflect human experience: many students are puzzled when it comes to choosing a field of study. Climate change is the largest environmental issue currently affecting the earth where humans are referred to as frogs slowly cooking in a pot.[1] Despite the common knowledge that the earth s atmosphere is heating to a dangerous level, humanity seems to be adapting to the changes in temperature, much like a boiling frog would before it is much too late. The same could be said about the Pacific islands in that they aren t receiving enough help to deal with the increasing heat. It is very important to understand the impact it has on the people and their livelihoods, as well as the physical effects on the islands and their economy. Being that more developed western countries don t feel the immediate effects of climate change such as sea level rise and dangerous weather changes, their feelings towards its toll on the Pacific Islands are not often considered. One of the greatest issues of our time surrounds the environmental impact humans are having on our planet and the major consequences in which we must deal with in order to save the planet. One technique that this paper will focus on is the use of solar panels to convert light energy from the sun into electrical energy. Brief History Solar technology can be dated all the way from 7th century B.C. Early uses included using reflective properties to direct sunlight to create energy (heat) to a specific area. In 1838 French scientist Edmond Becquerel discovered the photovoltaic effect which involved an electrolytic cell submerged in a solution, that when exposed to light, created energy. This discovery made way for Charles Fritts (1894) to create the first solar cell, which consists of a coating semiconductor material with a thin layer of gold. This first solar cell was only 1% efficient so energy production was not viable; put into perspective, today s solar technology is 46% efficient. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elephants once roamed around the continents of Africa and Asia in abundance. Growing numbers of human population, environment and climate change has played vital role in the loss of their natural habitat resulting in the decline of elephant population. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were few million African elephants and over 100,000 Asian elephants. Today, their estimated numbers range from 450,000 to 700,000 for African elephants and 35,000 to 40,000 for Asian elephants. Like most animals, elephants also play significant role in the ecosystem. The elephants help maintain suitable habitats for other species. They pull down trees, clear out heavy bushes, dig waterholes and create openings in the dense forests. Several tree species rely entirely upon elephant droppings for seed dispersal and germination. Elephants require larger habitats to maintain food supply that has brought them in direct competition with human race for living space. The ever increasing human population has pushed elephants into smaller areas, exposing them to human contact and hindering their freedom to roam. When humans and elephants live close together, the herds of elephants crossing can damage crops and villages. Such incidents lead to conflicts with humans in which elephants constantly lose and are killed. Hunting has been one of the most significant reasons of the population decline in ... For art to pass as beautiful, it must be good art, which Murdoch says, reveals what we are usually too selfish and too timid to recognize. By finding beautiful, religious scriptures that are blunt about the ambiguity of life and death, rather than romanticized, Larkin will find a trustworthy place of worship and at last, a spiritual connection. • 37. The Text Of The Meno By Plato In the text of the Meno by Plato, the dialogue develops and attempts to answer the question of what virtue is, and whether it is teachable. The paradox explained can be used to discuss merely anything, and we can thus say that either one knows or does not know. If a person knows, then they cannot investigate or question their knowledge. However, if a person does not know, they cannot inquire about it which means a person cannot question for not knowing what they do not know. Platogoes ahead and resolves the paradox in the Meno by saying that, one would not seek what he knows, for since he knows it there is no need of the inquiry, nor what he does not know, for in that case he does not even know what he is to look for. (Meno 80E) The Meno dialogue elaborates that in order to understand ways of finding the diagonal of a given square, a person needs to prompt knowledge that is concealed to the source. The Meno clearly states that knowledge is an essence to belief. Therefore, what matters and draws an ethical line between belief and knowledge is justification. If a person knows and believes, then it is not enough for one to justify it solely on those means. The Meno dialogue explains that in knowledge, a belief needs an account to tie it down and set a better example.
