Essay About Online Education
Crafting an essay on the subject of online education can be a challenging endeavor, as it requires
a nuanced understanding of various facets related to this dynamic and evolving mode of
learning. First and foremost, one needs to delve into the complexities of online education itself
– exploring its advantages, disadvantages, and the impact it has on traditional educational
paradigms.
The task becomes intricate as you navigate through the myriad dimensions of this topic,
addressing issues such as accessibility, technological requirements, and the potential disparities in
educational opportunities. Furthermore, it involves a thorough examination of the effectiveness
of online education in fostering student engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
One must also grapple with the ongoing debate about the validity of online credentials and
degrees in comparison to traditional ones.
Additionally, the essay demands an exploration of the role of educators in an online
environment, including the challenges they face and the strategies they employ to create
meaningful learning experiences. Balancing the benefits and drawbacks of online education
while considering the diverse needs of learners adds another layer of complexity to the task. The
landscape is further complicated by the rapidly evolving nature of technology, requiring an up-
to-date understanding of the latest innovations in educational technology.
In conclusion, writing an essay on online education entails navigating a multifaceted landscape
that encompasses technological, pedagogical, and societal aspects. It demands a comprehensive
analysis and an ability to critically evaluate the diverse perspectives surrounding this
contemporary educational phenomenon.

Health Psychology And The Effects Of Self Esteem On
Illness
Health Psychology and the Effects of Self Esteem on Illness
Health psychology, anther division inside of the American Psychological Association,
or APA, is a specialty applying psychological principles to the scientific study of
health, illness, and health related behaviors. Empirically based, or in other words vast
in growing research literature is the outcome of scientific methods (Jones Bartlett,
n.d) Health psychology focuses on how biological, social and psychological factors
influence health and illness. Health psychologists study how patients handle illness,
why some people don t follow medical advice and the most effective ways to control
pain or change poor health habits. They also develop health care strategies that foster
emotional and physical wellbeing (
American Psychological Association, 2007). The field of health psychology is
closely related to the many realms of health care, such as the bodily functions and
their causes and effects or chain reaction of events. Health psychology formally began
in the 1970s when the behavioral sciences began to contribute more to the
understanding of health problems (Schwartz Weiss, 1977). Health psychology
knowledge can include multiple fields such as psychological, social, and cultural
influences on diagnoses, treatment, and rehabilitation of ill and injured people (Jones
Bartlett, n.d.). More often than not, clinical health psychologists are also interested
in the ways diseases can be prevented as well as

Subaru puts a new Eastern satirical twist on the tradition Western sexy car wash in
their advertisement for the Forrester which in place of Heidi Klum or Jessica

off with a dirty Forrester pulling into the car wash with seductive music playing in
the background. Most audiences expect a group of supermodels in bikinis to come
out and wash the car, however the elderly couple and the audience is surprised to see
six sumo wrestlers come out in uniform to wash the car. The sumo wrestlers whip

This ad violates social and cultural norms by replacing beautiful women who
normally would advertise cars with sumo wrestlers, a reference to the origin of the
cars manufacturer. In an article published in Motor Authority it was quoted that
Unlike the bikini wearing models in other ads, you re not left wondering where the
car is...If anything your eyes seek out the [car], if only for aesthetic relief. (Lienert

In this advertisement Subaru Canada is also portraying a sense of Japanese pride.
Sumo wrestlers are honored in Japan and by replacing a Canadian or American
supermodel with a symbol of Japanese pride, the sumo wrestler. This connects
viewers with the pride of a Japanese manufactured car that the ad is trying to sell.
What else is the ad selling?
Subaru Canada is selling a new type of car advertisement which shows deviance to
societal norms by changing the image of what people think is sexy. Sex sells is a
long standing phrase that can be used to define the advertising industry and before
this commercial was released many manufacturers marketed sexy car advertisements
using Sports Illustrated swimsuit models or models of a similar stature. Subaru in
lieu of the sexy bikini models has chosen to express their individuality by chosen a
cultural representation to poke fun at traditional advertising. Subaru takes a

Rhetorical Analysis Of Queen Elizabeth s Speech At Tilbury
During her reign, Queen Elizabeth had many enemies that wanted to see her dead,
and take her throne. When King Philip got angry at Elizabeth for rejecting marriage
proposals and converting England into Protestant, rejecting Catholicism, he took a
fleet of ships called the Spanish Armada and launched an invasion against England.
Many soldiers were concerned and disoriented, but when Queen Elizabeth step up
and gave her speech, they were motivated enough to win the battle. The speech at
Tilbury given by Queen Elizabeth was made for trust, unity and inspire her country,
by using diction, point of view and figurative language, in the upcoming war. For
Elizabeth, trust was one thing she needed the most. All her life, she has been lied to
by everyone she knew, including her childhood friend, Robert Dudley. When she
ascended the throne, she had many attempts that almost got her killed, but with the
help of Sir Francis Walsingham, she eliminated all her enemies. She stated in her
speech, I do not live to distrust my faithful and loving people, stating that she
knows how it feels to be betrayed and be non trustworthy and so she argues that she
will never be distrusting of her country and they shouldn t either. The way that she
could achieve such purpose was with diction by using words such as assure ,
faithful , and even loving people , she gained many people to trust her for this one
battle of their lives. Trust wasn t the only task that Elizabeth wanted to accomplish, as

In The Short Stories, “Saving Sourdi,” By May-Lee
Chai
In the short stories, Saving Sourdi, by May Lee Chai and The Moths, by Helena
Maria Viramontes, the main character of each short story goes through their own
coming of age experience where they are forced to mature in order to overcome an
obstacle. Chai explains her main character, Nea s, struggle as she is forced to
mature and overcome the departure of her older sister, Sourdi, from her life after she
gets married and moves away. Viramontes, on the other hand, depicts her narrator s
struggle as she is forced to mature and overcome the death of her Abuelita on her
own. Despite their very different approaches, both Chai and Viramontes successfully
convey their main characters struggles in their journey from youth to adulthood. The

So when Sourdi started dating the boy their family had hired to wash dishes at their
restaurant, Duke, Nea never considered him to be a fork in the road, dividing [Nea
s] life with Sourdi from Sourdi s life with men (Chai 84). Nea underestimated
Sourdi and Duke s relationship and overestimated her and Sourdi s bond. Soon
enough, their mother caught on and ended up firing Duke, but Duke and Sourdi
continued to fall in love with each other. Nea wasn t surprised that Duke, the funny
looking white kid , fell in love with her sister (Chai 84). Sourdi is so beautiful that
she had some beauty to spare and Nea would sometimes pretend that she was
beautiful too. Where Sourdi was smooth, Nea had angles; where Sourdi was soft,
Nea had bone (Chai 84). Sourdi is reserved and calm in contrast to Nea who is quite
outspoken and rigid. Regardless of their differences, Sourdi and Nea remained close;
that was until Sourdi was arranged to be married to a much older gentleman, Mr.
Chhay, at the tender age of eighteen.
After getting married, Sourdi and Mr. Chhay moved a state away to Iowa, putting
an even larger strain on Sourdi and Nea s relationship. Sourdi did not want to get
married to Mr. Chhay as she was still in love with Duke, but it wasn t in Sourdi to
fight back and go against her mother s wishes something Nea would have easily
done. Nearly two years after Sourdi got married, Nea picks up a call from Sourdi one

Pergola Vs Gazebo Scholarship
One of the many great things about living in Sydney is being able to enjoy the
outdoor lifestyle for several months of the year so it s no surprise that landscaping
and gardening make up a large percentage of all home improvement projects. If it s
your first time out or even if you ve got a few landscaping tasks under your belt,
you might feel completely overwhelmed with all the choices available. With the
endless supply of Home Improvement stores and DIY renovation shows on TV,
there s no lack of inspiration, but be aware there s more to landscaping than buying
a few bags of mulch and a couple of flower pots. For that reason, along with the
obvious cost factor, it s important to do your homework and have a well thought out
plan in place. Here are a few ideas to get you going.... Show more content on

need approval but the council can order to have it demolished if non compliant.
Building a pergola or gazebo is a very popular DIY project and also a great way to
extend your living area into the back yard. If you choose to cover your pergola,
there are a few different ways you can go Colorbond, clear or tinted polycarbonate

Ulcerative Surgery Research Paper
Surgery is a Permanent Cure for Ulcerative Colitis
When the results of all the tests confirm that you have an ulcerative colitis and
medications have not eased the inflammation and pain, surgery is a viable option.
The type of surgery for your particular problem will depend on the amount of the
damage that needs to be corrected. Your Glendora General Surgeon will explain each
procedure and discuss which one is best for you.
A protocolectomy is an operation to totally remove the large colon and rectum.
Another operation, called a subtotal colectomy, leaves the rectum intact, but removes
the entire large colon. And a third type of operation is called a partial colectomy,
which does not impact the rectum, but it does remove the inflamed part of the large
colon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The surgery is performed in a hospital. Before the surgery, you will be given a
general anesthesia to ensure that you will not feel any pain. The surgery will take
between 3 to 4 hours to complete. And you will need to remain in the hospital for
several days.
LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY:
This operation requires 3 to 5 small incisions be made in your lower stomach. A
medical laparoscope is an instrument with a slender tube and an attached camera
that the surgeon puts into one of the incisions in order to see where the damaged
area is located. Your stomach is filled with gas so that the surgeon has a good view
of the area where he will be working. One larger cut may be required if the surgeon
needs to put a hand inside of the stomach to help remove the colon. It is not unusual
to remove some lymph nodes while removing the damaged areas. The incisions will
be closed with stitches or staples.
OPEN SURGERY:
The surgeon follows the same procedure as for the laparoscopic surgery, but there is
only one large incision made in the lower stomach

Bibl 104 Worldview Letter
Hi Dear Doug I am so glad that you send me a letter, I hope that my answers are
helpful for you. First of all, worldview relates to the purposes of God. God created
the world for a specific purpose as a place for mankind to exist. Is a perspective, a
hypothesis of the world, utilized for living as a part of the world. A world
perspective is a mental model of reality a structure of thoughts and demeanors
about the world, ourselves, and life, an exhaustive arrangement of conviction. We
should study worldview because that help us to discover how God works in the
world, to better understand the Bible and how to apply it to your life. Also we
should study varieties of world views to learn how to difference between good and
evil. Not just because
Although there has not been a consensus on an exact...
Although there has not been a consensus on an exact causation due to its global
nature there has been unanimity on a number of factors. As in the case of its sister
crisis (the Great Depression), many scholars acknowledge that before this cataclysm
struck, the preceding economy did in fact experience a boom period. Most critics
are also in accordance that the trigger of this crisis had to involve the subprime
mortgage bubble which collapsed in the United States however, that alone could not
represent the exact causality of this crisis. Just as in the Great Depression, there were
a variety of contributing factors that resulted in this financial catastrophe.
Despite evidence of this evolving predicament present throughout 2006 and ... Show

It is evident that the immediate causalities of this crisis were focused on excessive
debt leverage or imprudent lending (Wade). Most of it appeared in the form of credit
structures that were complexly structured (i.e. CDS), so therefore when
pandemonium hit the market after the fall of the Lehman Brothers bank, the major
default risk associated with these investments took many investors to their breaking
point. Now in spite this, Bernanke also briefly mentioned that there were various
other factors at work in explaining the severity of the crisis most notably the
vulnerabilities in the system in addition to underperformances in government
responses. Various factors Bernanke describes included; banks overreliance on short
term wholesale funding, an over dependence on rating agencies, shortcomings in
private sector risk management, excessive leverage on the part of households,
businesses and financial firms as well as an overall failure of existing regulatory
practices worldwide such as statutory gaps in regulation on special purpose vehicles
(Bernanke).
So, how do these two major crises compare when analyzed against one another the
similarities should be obvious. For instance, in each of these particular catastrophes
there was clear evidence of a preceding economic boom before
The Death Of Willie Closed
Willie closed his eyes and prepared to feel the pain, but it didn t come. He opened
his eyes and saw a boy about his size, wrestling Archie, and winning! Then another
person stepped in front of him and punched him in the eye, nose, then stomach. He
also kicked him in both shins. You called him here to attack us! I didn t! Willie said
desperately, trying to breath. Willie could feel the blood flowing from his nose, and
down his face. Then, with all the strength he had left, and kicked the kid in the
stomach. Your gonna pay for that! yelled the kid. He grabbed Willie around the
waist and carried him to where the gang hung out. There, they tied Willie to a chair

Psalms 23
Psalms 23 is a verse that is indicated that God loves us and we should only pass one

The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management
The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W.
Taylor few centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and
administrating the industry with its own system involving rules, methods and
policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to standardize and connect all the current
improvements in industrial organization and to push it further according to his
concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many researches
from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the
Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the
worker s relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and
attitude (Cubbon, 1969). Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations
by studying the workers in groups instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as
individual. Through this, he noticed workers prefer working in groups and it even
increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa, 2013).
According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and
reluctant to put in all their effort without the interference of the management. They
also try to minimise and even avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is
inferred that workers have cooperation dilemma where some workers try to
disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still earning the same
profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto,

EBBD management team asked for an analysis, be performed on the current
forecasting methods and the prediction methods utilized by EBBD, what alternative
techniques are available, and how improvements can be made on their short term
forecasting on the monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. Long term forecasting is also

Assumptions:
1. The forecasting approach applied by EBBD is not only the future business
projection but also a resource in which the supplies are ordered and stock age levels
are determined. With the assumption that their operational cost and their monthly

Why I Chose The Skeletal System
Human anatomy is the scientific study of the human body that consists of several
interacting systems. According to Wiki, Anatomy has become a key part of the visual
arts. The skeletal system is one of the most drawn systems of human anatomy. The
skeletal system is the framework of the human body that provides support, protection,
and flexibility. Hillendale Health says, Without your skeletonyour body would
collapse into a heap. I chose the skeletal systembecause without it we would not be
able to experience the significant parts of life. The skeletal system is all of the bones
in the body and the tissues such as tendons, ligaments, and cartilage that connect
them. Bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage account for about twenty percent
The Impact Of Art On Our Lives
Further and Further away seems the ultimate purpose of the human race, as our
society progresses, still we search for that question, and that answer. That is the
human condition, our Sadness, pain of living, our fear of death and the endless
thirst. That may be the truth for most modern and first world countries, our history
has only repeated itself throughout the years. The only thing that has changed is
our evolution, or developments in Culture, Technology and discovering the very
meaning of being alive on this planet. Art has played a huge role in many
developments, with such massive visual influence. It has easily changed,
manipulated and persuaded people throughout history, for good and for evil. Art
plays an essential role in our everyday and social lives. It s everywhere we are; in
our homes and workplaces, on TV and radio, Plastered all over the Internet, in
museums and in galleries. Art defines and reflects our world. Art has always has,
and always will trigger change in the world, from a small town to entire countries, its
silent message always will be one that is heard. This can be seen especially through
the contrasting art of Frida Kahlo, and Shirin Nashat.
Frida Kahlo s life was stained with drama, pain and tragedy. At 16 she was involved
in a motor accident which left her in chronic pain for the rest of her life. I suffered
two grave accidents in my life...One in which a streetcar knocked me down and the
other was Diego. These complications initiated

HOTA Paper
After the years of the American Civil War, America embarked on a manifest destiny,
2.0. America decided they wanted to expand their territory across the waters. There
were many approaches that were suggested by previous presidents, all with the same
goal: World Dominance.
The Big Stick idea was brought to light from President Theodore Roosevelt. The plan
reflected many of the same impulses that were motivating domestic reforms that
were taking place in America. He wanted to expand that reform to Cuba. He
wanted to send a message that reflected to nations America s new sense of world
power. With this policy Presidents could exercise power unfettered and alone if he
was overseas in an american territory. Roosevelt believed that a civilized (industrial)
nation was to go in to uncivilized (non industrial) countries and have the right as
well as the duty to intervene in the affairs of a backward nation to preserve order
and stability, for the sake of both nations he said.
Venezuela, for example, had a deteriorating economy that began to renege on debts of
european bankers. In response, the Roosevelt Corollary (now the Monroe Doctrine),
was put into play. the Roosevelt Corollary claimed the united States had not only the
right to European intervention in the Western hemisphere but also to intervene itself
in the domestic affairs of its neighbors if those neighbors proved unable to maintain
order and national sovereignty on their own, such

According to article from Chicago Tribune, The state has a record stack of unpaid
bills that s expected to hit $15 billion by July if nothing is done, and it must fork
over interest when it s late paying them. These unpaid bills funds nonprofits
agencies, human resources, and even schools. For example, with the recent ending
of the stop gate budget Chicago State, Western and Eastern appealed to Illinois
higher education officials for additional emergency funding, with the schools
splitting $17 million of a $20 million pot of funds set aside to help the most
financially vulnerable universities. The remaining $3 million will be funneled to
community colleges. Many schools are feeling the financial affliction of not having
and state budget and will continue to feel the burden till a budget is passed. Not to
mention this financial burden is even worse on public schools which are going to
continue to lack funding till the budget is passed. Someone else that is feeling the
lack of budget is nonprofit and human resources, as [t]he stopgap authorized roughly

Gundy Coal Case Study
Gundy Coal proposes the development of an open cut coal mine 6 km east of Scone
and 3 km north of Segenhoe. The mine would be produced on the site of
Arrowfield Stud (on Gundy Rd and along the Pages River). The mine will also be
17 km north of Aberdeen and 24 km north of Muswellbrook where by the coal
would be transported through these towns towards its destination of the Newcastle
port to be exported via ship. The mine should produce an average of 6 million tonnes
of coalper year, culminating 120 million tonnes of coal over its 20 year life span.
The project of the open cut mine east of Scone involves the development and
production of:

any area in or accompanying.
4.2 Noise
Machinery both large and small is a significant part of open cut coal mining and
therefore has a high possibility to produce noise pollution. For the majority of noise
sources faced whilst mining, there are many mitigation verified methods of reducing
the impact of noise. Noise absorbing barriers, sound silencers and purpose built
exhaust systems and alarms are some of these main methods to mitigate machinery
produced noise. However for transport based (road or rail based) machinery external
to the immediate mine site, the noise reduction can only be altered via appropriately
designed/operated vehicles and

quotes in the poem that encapsulate the message that Goldsmith is trying to put
across. The fictional village of Auburn has now become a place where wealth
accumulates, and men decay ; this is quite a disturbing image as it is now evident that
Auburn is no longer the beautiful and rustic village that it was before the introduction
of the Enclosure acts. The quote in question encapsulates the theme and is of extreme
importance to ones understanding of the work; it sums up the message and the
argument that Goldsmith is trying to put across. Goldsmith is completely
condemning the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Goldsmith saw many incidents of rustic towns and beautiful countryside being
completely destroyed for the benefit of the wealthier community (Rowley 132).
These incidents that he was witness to inspired him to write The Deserted Village
which is an extremely powerful and argumentative poem. The village of Auburn
has been ruined by depopulation and the peasants that have been forced out of this
small rural village have been left with no other choice but to flee to America in
search of a better and more comfortable life. This poem is also based on the arrival of
wealthy landlords to England with the intent to gain control of the poorer
surrounding areas; it is clear from reading the poem that Goldsmith was not in favour
of the social changes that were in occurrence. The social changes that he refers to are
the Enclosure acts and indeed the early effects of the industrial revolution. Goldsmith
does not like the effects of enclosure on rural life, it is clear that he is passionate
about old traditions and does not like when they are altered and replaced by a way of
life that is consumed by power and wealth. Goldsmith strongly believes that all the
wealthy people in the world are corrupt and this is evident throughout this poem; he
thinks the wealthier community are malevolent and that they do not take the poorer
people of England into
Alcoholics Anonymous And The Philosophies Essay
Alcoholics Anonymous and The Philosophies in Between:
Conflicting Philosophies Between the Original Twelve Step Alcohol s Anonymous
Program and The New Counseling Profession
Brandon R. McIver
University of Oregon
Abstract
This paper concerns the notoriously well known successful treatment program,
Alcoholics Anonymous twelve step program, and contrasts it to what would be
referred to as a revised version of the original program. Alcoholics Anonymous has
been one of the primary sources of addiction recovery in individuals for numerous
years. It allows its participants, who are deemed to be part of an international
fellowship of both men and women alike, an opportunity to join in a camaraderie that
is self supporting, multiracial, nonprofessional, and conveniently available in a
variety of locations. It aims to let its participants share personal experiences and
partake in a group atmosphere where the lead counselor bans judgment. The
fundamental values of Alcoholics Anonymous exist in the twelve core steps that
attendees are encouraged to follow in an effort to redeem control of their alcohol
addiction problem. Alcoholics Anonymous has been proven to change participants
principal values and assist them in changing their perceived outlook on life for an
increased potential at living a healthier and addiction free lifestyle. However, the
twelve core values of Alcoholics Anonymous have been challenged and questioned in
an effort to

The Wilderness Based Experimental Groups
Wilderness Based Experimental Groups
Abstract
Instead of doing the traditional group sessions for women who have been a victim
of abuse, many people have decided to try out a new program called The Women of
Courage . This program is a way for women to get together with others who have
gone through the same thing they have, and to be out in the wilderness to go through
different task like, rock climbing, canoeing, and simply just making their own
meals. All of these task will help the women learn the importance of their
responsibility for their self and can share with others in the group. All of these
women work together to overcome the violence that they have been a part of in new
ways, besides sitting in an office with a counselor. This can help them learn that you
do not always have to go and talk everything through, you can simply just go out into
the wilderness and work together to overcome this.
Wilderness Based Experimental Groups
It is said to believe that abuse occurs in the lives of 3.5 million women in the nation
every year (Kelly). There are many different forms of abuse, but they can all take an
emotional and physical effect on anyone. Most people who are being affected by
abuse are more likely to experience depression, anxiety, or post traumatic stress
disorder (Kelly). There are a lot of different treatment options that people who are
being abused can take but sometimes they may not feel very comfortable in the
treatment that they are receiving

Economic Shocks
In the early 1970s, the prices of oil increased shockingly causing economic shocks,
which made organizations to impose changes. Economic shocks have continued to
impose changes on organizations. For example, economic problems in Russia,
Asia, and Latin America have rocked world stock markets and forced banks such as
chase Manhattan to take heavy losses. Similarly, when oil prices dropped from $22
a barrel to $13 in the late 1990s, many oil services went bankrupt.
Competition
Global economy leads to heightened competition from competitors all over, this
means that established organizations need to defend themselves against
entrepreneurial firms with innovative offerings.
Some successful organizations, which are fast on their feet, capable of developing
new product cycles, and an ongoing stream of new products, are flexible and require
a responsive workforce that can adapt to rapidly and even radically changing
conditions.
Social Trends
During the past generation, there were no changes, which organizations have to
adjust. But now, there is a clear trend in marriage and divorce during the past two
decades. Other than that, youngsters are delaying this social trend by marrying later.
This causes an increasing number of single households, demanding for housing by
singles. The house building business takes this is an important factor in determining
the size and design of
Toronto Star Conducted An Analysis On The Toronto Police
The Toronto Star conducted an analysis on the Toronto Police that looked into the
concept of racial profiling and if race matters. The Toronto Star obtained data on
police arrest data and a second set of data that details who Toronto police choose to

Star 2010, p.2). The Star used the 2006 Census data to compare the policearrest data

the contact card data from the Toronto police. From the data that the Star analyzed
the Toronto police filed 1.7 million cards between 2003 and 2008, the majority was
from non criminal encounters. According to the data, approximately 1.3 million

blacks were represented three times more than the actual number of blacks in
Toronto. However the rate for the Brown community was slightly higher. White
people were carded proportionately to the white population. In the 74 patrol zones
Blacks are documented at a disproportionate rate compared to the actual number of
Blacks in those zones. When looking at the data for the number of young males
being carded, young males of skin color are disproportionately documented. Black
males from the age of 15 24 are documented at a rate 13 times more than their actual
representation in the general population. Brown males are 7 times more and white
males are about 5 times more. From this data young black males are documented at
a rate 2.5 higher than young while males. In the data analyzed in both the MANIX

Similarities Between O Lan And Cuckoo
In The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck the author writes O lan and Cuckoo to be
equals due to their status of slave. Although they have differences such as,
intelligence and beauty, both of them eventually rise out of their status and

a keeper of an establishment. In the novel O lan is to be wed and for her talents as
a hard working slave, she is very useful to Wang Lung, a poor hard working farmer,
and Cuckoo not being the smartest or hardest working of slaves, but with her beauty
and her being sly, seizes power from the Old Lord to be the keeper of a teahouse.

Cuckoo depends on her beauty and is placed as the Old Lords concubine and
becomes a keeper at a teahouse which she then leaves to become lotus servant a
mistress of Wang Lung. In the end O lan played a more significant role as an

Amish Shunning Practices
America is filled with multiple cultures from different parts of the world. The most
secretive culture is the Amish. Amish do not use modern day technology, and they
have strict rules to follow. If anyone breaks those rules, they receive a punish that is
more severe than we would imagine. Shunning, the punishment, affects different parts
of Amish life. The first main point is shunning is the practice of avoiding, ignoring,
or rejecting through antipathy or caution. This practice is used to keep the Ordung,
Amish rules, from being corrupt by whomever went against the church (Hostetler
2010). Shunning is a form of discipline, and is not taken lightly within the church.
Outsiders would see this practice as cruel, when it is used to maintain a... Show more

The sinner and anyone they love are affected by the punishment of being shunned
(Mission to Amish People 2015). For example, close friends, parents, children, and
spouses must not interact with the shunned member whether it be a business
transaction or simply just eating dinner together (Groberman 2008). The shunned
may attend any family gather, but they must sit at a different table as the rules require
them to do (Shunning 2007). Any business must be avoided with shunned members,
unless a third party is handling the money (Zavada 2015). 1 Corinthians 5:8 verse
states that, You must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister,
but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slander, a drunkard or a swindler. Do
not even eat with such people. Romans 16:17 verse states, I urge you, brothers and
sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that
are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. In conclusion,
many may think that the Amish are the only ones that shun or excommunicate their
fellow members, but that s not true. The Catholic Church will also excommunicate
their members for sinning. The Amish church is based on multiple Christian
principles, and shunning is used to uphold those beliefs. Punishment for Amish

Role Of An Interest Group On The United States And.
Texas...
An interest group also known as a special interest group or a lobby is an organized
group of individuals, organizations, or businesses who share a goal. The interest
group forms an alliance in support of their cause to influence public policy and
government officials in the group s favor. The goal of the group could be focused
on small group, such as the Japan Eraser Manufacturer s Association; or the goal
could be focused on a large public group, such as family and friends of public school
aged children in the United States. Clive S. Thomas states, The most important
lobbying forces in any society are the various entities of government: national,
regional, and local government agencies and institutions such as the military
(Thomas). The role of an interest group in the United States and/or Texas political
system is creating a relationship with the staff of congress. This relationship provides
a window for the group to testify at hearings. The interest group provides personal
transportation for their group members to vote in crucial elections. Some of their
members will vote on their group issues since lobbying brings them in direct contact
with the political candidates. The groups members are more than willing to teach
their legislators about technology which the legislators sometimes lack this
information. The members look forward to informing the legislators about their
groups concerns and issues. R. Allen Hayes, Democracy Paper writer, states,

the sales, manufacturing, or transportation of any alcoholic beverage. Although many
immigrants were law abiding citizens those criminals looking for refuge from their

eventually led to bootlegging due to the demand for alcoholic beverages and the

Designing A Product, Brand, And Service Unique
A differentiation strategy is the efforts to make a product, brand, or service unique
as compared to all other competitors, hence providing a competitive advantage
(Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 219). There are several key skills and resources that
managers should be cognizant of in order to build and base their positive
differentiated strategy. The following essay will expand on these topics which
include skills and resources, as well as, organizational requirements.
To begin with, skills and resources as well as organizational requirements of Apple s
differentiation comes from the organizations core skills which includes the ability to
make easy to use software, integration with other platforms such as iTunes, creative
talent/skilled labor, and a sleek simple design (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 220).
Another organization, Nike, has a differentiation strategy that resides in the company
s brand, its long tradition in the industry, its partnership with elite professional
athletes, and a strong coordination of functions in the value chain from R D to
product development to advertising/marketing (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 220).
There are a few risks associated with evaluating a differentiation strategy that a
manager should be aware. First, imitation limits apparent differentiation, rendering it
worthless (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 221). For instance, when Apple came out with
the tablet there was an extreme differentiation, however, with the imitation
developments

In Response To The Globalization Of Superficiality Analysis
In his 2010 speech, Rev. Adolfo NicolГЎs, S.J., Superior General of the Society of
Jesus, said In response to the globalization of superficiality, I suggest that we need to
study the emerging cultural world of our students more deeply and find creative ways
of promoting depth of thought, and imagination, a depth that is transformative of the
person.
Fr. NicolГЎs is reminding us to take a step back when learning new information. He
is reminding us to stand above the flood of information we experience faster and after
due to new technology. He stresses the need for thought out information over fast
information. The globalization of superficiality refers to this widespread trend of
disconnection between well thought out human interaction. Father NicolГЎs is
stressing the importance of considering sources and form our own analyses. But his
concern stretches even deeper, to the way young people are using technology to hide
from the world and connection with others. He is calling for Jesuit education to
encourage deeper evaluation and participation of life s experiences.
Computer Science is a rapidly growing field, not only in the US but all over the
world. Through a semester abroad I hope to learn more about the world as well as
how CS is growing overseas. Father NicolГЎs addressed how technology has
increased the stresses access to information as fast as possible, over the quality of the
information.
Both through technology as my chosen field but also away from the world of zeros
and ones.
Although Father NicolГЎs is describing technology as the driving force behind the
globalization of superficiality, I want my experience abroad to increase how I use my
information to expand my depth of thought and imagination and use my computer
skills to help others do so too. Father NicolГЎs mentions a pedagogy of Ignatian
contemplation, how Ignatius asked us to look at all our senses when responding to a
new experience. I can employ this method to my new experiences while studying
abroad, in my studies toward my major and in exposure to another culture. Father
NicolГЎs is reminding us to stop and smell the roses when experiencing new things,
to take time to connect with others and our present surroundings. I fully intend
The Tea Of Tea Master
When I first entered the tea house, the aroma of many tea leaves struck me in my
nose. I was deeply welcomed by many people. The atmosphere was very lively. The
first thing I realized when sitting down at the tea gathering table was the amount of
utensils there were to make a cup of tea and the traditional clothing TeaMaster
Michael Fung was wearing. This made me feel like Tea Master Michael Fung was
deeply passionate and interested in the art of tea. As more students came, I
realized that it was very cramped. It reminded me of a quote when Dr. Jack said
that it was best to drink tea with only two people and the more we have the more it
feels uncomfortable. During the beginning of the ceremony, Tea Master Michael
Fung, owner of The Best Tea House Co. , took many aged Pu er tea cakes for us to
experiment and observe. Many students and I, saw many differences such as how it
smells and how the colour changes over time. Tea Master Michael Fung also talked
about the history and the origins of tea and why it is drank and how it is developed.
He also mentioned that the waxing paper determines the tea s quality. Pu er tea is an
aged dark tea produced in Yunnanprovince of China under the process of
fermentation and Tea Master Michael Fung showed us the difference between
Sheng and Shu Cha and its health benefits. Since Pu er tea can be stored to mature,
I observed that there was a year and the region of production on each packaging.
There was also many shapes such as a
Free Wi Fi Is An Impressive Method For Retaining And...
Free Wi Fi is an impressive method for retaining and attracting customers.
Additionally, everyone wants free Wi Fi, especially when mobile social networking
has tremendously grown over the past decade. Therefore, due to the explosion of
mobile devices, consumers are now more connected than ever. Thus, they have come
to expect businesses to offer free Wi Fi. Further, free Wi Fi can be an effective
businessstrategy, and has proven to be a competitive advantage for a company that
decides to offer it. However, first a business must decide if the service is going to
be free to all, free to only a select few, or a monthly charge. Consequently,
businesses that decline to offer the free service, are at risk of declining foot traffic
and sales. Although some of the businesses that decide to offer free Wi Fi, may
discover that the service can, increase brand awareness, increase the time that a
customer spends on the premises, and increase foot traffic, which in turn, can
translate into sales. Free Wi Fi is currently available at some public and private
businesses. However, a consumermay decide not to frequent a business that does not
offer the free service, instead, choosing to shop at a business that does. Nevertheless,
offering free Wi Fi can produce additional benefits and advantages for a business. For
example, the business can ensure that the company s website is the home page of the
connection, share real time offers, and create business specific ads. Ultimately,

Psalm 3
1. What is the historical context for the psalm?
The historical background of Psalm 3 is described in 2 Samuel chapters 15 18. Verse
7 of the said psalm showed David s petition. He asked the Lord to save him. It is
clear from 2 Samuel 15:32 27 that David wisely sent Hushai, his friend, back to

Construct an outline of the psalm that shows its literary structure.
Psalm 34:1 3 is an introductory summons to praise (Bosma, n.d.). It was then
followed by David s testimonial in verse 4 until verse 6. Further, verses 8 14 is all
about the poet s exhortations, which consisted of 10 imperatives and seven poetic
lines, with emphasis on verse 11 (Bosma, n.d.). Also, it is noteworthy that verse 15
describes the Lord as attentive most especially to the righteous; and verse 16 talks
about His negative attitude towards those who perform evil (Bosma, n.d.).
4. Describe poetical devices in the psalm, including examples of parallelism (at least
two types) and figures of speech (at least three types).
Psalm 34:17 ultimately corresponds thematically with verses 4 and 7. Bosma (n.d.)
believed that this is evident because of the lexical parallels between in verses 4, 6
and 17. Also, Verses 15 21 reflect the poet s use of alternating parallelism (Bosma,
n.d.).
There are various figures of speech evident in this psalm. First, verse 13 represents
synecdoche because the tongue and lips meant to represent the poet as a whole.
Second, verse 16 shows anthropomorphism because of the use of the face of the
Lord is against those who do evil, which in turn signifies the explicit comparison of
God to the aspect of mankind (Bible Getaway, n.d.). Lastly, acrostic is also evident
in Psalm 34 because each verse begun with a letter of the alphabet in
Ethiopi The Country Of The World
Considered one of the most important beverages in the world, the people of the
world run on coffee. However, the process of coffee making from bean to brew, is
tumultuous and a cause of mass hardships for the farmers and agricultural workers
who grow, pick, and sort coffee. Coffee is grown in over fifty countries of the world,
but it s origins is in Ethiopia. For the past ten years, Ethiopia has been trying to raise
the quality of life for its coffeefarmers and workers, where it is a source of livelihood
for somewhere around 15 million people. Most the people involved with coffee trade
in Ethiopia get paid less than two dollars a day for their work and contribution while
prices for arabica brewed coffee soar in Europe, America, and parts... Show more

Many traditions and celebrations have coffee as the centerpiece. Much of the
coffee grown and produced in Ethiopia are considered to be speciality coffee which
to consumers in places like North America and Europe means a higher price tag
but better quality and taste. Coffee is seen as the backbone of the Ethiopian
economy, contributing 41 per cent of total foreign exchange earnings in 2005
(Petit, 2007), however, many of those earnings are not going back to the people
who work within the coffee industry there. It is reported that the coffee industry in
Ethiopia is sustaining the livelihoods of more than one million coffee growing
households and an estimated 15 million people in total (Petit, 2007) but many of
these peoples are living in destitution and poverty in the past few decades. For the
farmers in Ethiopia the earnings they get from coffee is estimated to be around
US$1.50 while in the first world the coffee from Sidama, Yirgacheffe and Harar
coffees are being sold in the retail market for up to US$26 per pound (Arslan, A.,
Reicher, C. P. , 2012)
From the 1960s to 1989, the price of coffee was stable and was used to help the
development of coffee growing and producing nations, including Ethiopia. This was
because of the International Coffee Agreement was used in both importing and
exporting nations where there were quotas and price controls were used to strengthen
and empower coffee growing nations (Black Gold). However, in 1989 drastic changes

The Legacy Of The Sierra Club Adams
As Adams pursued his work in both art and conservation the various lines of his life
were beginning to converge revealing both the unity and the disjunction of his ideas.
137 His impact was felt on both spheres of influence. Using modern techniques of
mass communications, Adams brought a vision of idealized wildernessto a broad
audience and linked the environmental movement with nationalism and a romantic
view of nature. The sustained popularity of his photographs illuminates a continuing
public fascination with the wilderness landscape as both a place of beauty and a
symbol of national identity and ideals. (Pacific 42) Most leaders within the
conservation movement continued to share his ideal assuming that economic growth

the SГјleyman kГјlliye (after 1550). They all have elevated clarity and logic and

period is the dominance of a central dome that covers a significant part of the prayer

series of halfdomes and small domes that cascade from the central dome with the rule
of Ottomans. A number of mosques have one, two, or four half domes supporting the
central dome. The domes in Ottoman architecture have a semi circular flat profile.
Hagia Sophia One of the main tourist attractions in Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia known
as Ayasofya in Turkish, is also referred to as the Church of St Sophia. The building
started as a church and was built based on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor
Constantine II in 360 AD. It was destroyed in 404 AD by a mob and was rebuilt to
grander proportions by Theodosius II in 405 AD only to be destroyed again in 532
during the week of riots known as the Nika Revolt . Rebuilt under Emperor
Justinian who was to construct a larger and more majestic building than its
predecessors, which resulted in him shipping marble columns to Constantinople for
the project from Baalbek in the Lebanon, when completed it was to remain one of
the foremost churches despite being damaged by a series of earthquakes in 553, 557
and again in 558. The
Roy Hobbs In Bernard Malamud s The Natural
What is one activity that comes natural to you? For Roy Hobbs that activity is
baseball. In Bernard Malamud s The Natural , Roy eats, breathes, and sleeps
baseball. He is said to have natural talent that some describe as supernatural.
Although Roy undoubtedly has natural talent, Roy and every other professional
athlete puts in countless days training, practicing, and studying their sport.
However, with all of Roy s hard work and talent, he is seen as a bad figure to many
people, which causes him many problems in his career. Roy Hobbs has a deep
emotional love for baseball; this passion drives him to overcome many obstacles

Another theme of story is about human lust for power. Rappaccini uses science as
vehicle for power over nature, through Beatric and the garden .He just, for the sake
of power through science ,treats with Beatric and the plants.Touching nothing
directly ,only looking and tending from distance. Baglioni also is represented a
person who wants to win Dr.Rappaccini so he decides to kill Beatric. And Giovanni
is not the person who truly loves Beatric .He loves her as he wants Beatric to be not
as she is. Beatric is the only human who establish real love and who wants to love
and be loved.
Giovanni is the young protagonist. That he views the garden from his lofty window
suggests his perspective on the complexity of good and evil embodied in Beatrice .
When he first begins to understand that she is dangerous, he dismisses his
suspicions as fantasy ; however, as he becomes more concerned with himself than
with her, he eventually calls her a poisonous thing who has contaminated him,
making him as hateful, as ugly, as loathsome and deadly a creature as she. By the
end of the story, his selfishness completely blinds him to her goodness, and as a
result, he gives her the antidote provided by Baglioni, in this way hoping to redeem
her from her evil nature and save her for a life of love with him. A tall, emaciated,

Further, the US government, precisely the Department of Energy, is ready to fund
half of Ford s project on BEVs and PHEVs. Ford expects that once started, the
hybrid mass production will reduce current total production costs by 30%.
Meanwhile, Ford targets a change in its product portfolio which increasingly
allocates more weight to cars amp; crossovers rather than trucks and SUVs, from
48% in 2007 to 60% in 2010, and increases its investment allocation from 59% in
2007 to 82% in 2010 for cars amp; crossovers as well(see Figure 6). These models
will help US consumers to achieve substantial savings for gasoline, while being
environmentally friendly. Planned to be fully implemented in 2020, BEVs are
designed to aim for zero emission since they run purely on electricity power.
Furthermore, Ford promise that the driving experience of electrified vehicles will
not be compromised. Ford believes that it will achieve economies of scale, once the
manufacturing process is started on the global scale. On this matter, the Electric
Power Research Institute (EPRI) collaborates with Ford to evaluate technical
approaches for integrating PHEVs, which is a key requirement to facilitate
widespread adoption of the vehicles. Meanwhile, Ford restructures itself to attain its
optimal capital structure. By selling off its subsidiaries which are burdensome, Ford
can reduce its losses. However, selling Land Rover and Jaguar to Tata might

Why The Welsh Assembly Government ( Wag )
The Foundation Phase was introduced to nursery level children at the start of the
2008 2009 academic year and each year after until all students in nursery, reception,
year 1 and year 2 were taking part in this first stage of the new Welsh Curriculum
(DCELLS, 2008a). The curriculum for the Foundation Phase is set out in The
Framework for Children s learning for 3 to 7 year olds in Wales (The Framework)
(DCELLS, 2012). The main focus for the Foundation Phase curriculum is that the
children learn by gaining first hand experience through activities that may challenge
them but are enjoyable so that they the children seek out experimental learning and
active involvement themselves (DCELLS, 2008a). The Framework has several key
messages (DCELLS, 2008a) and they link with the experiences that the children
should be having. To get a better understanding of the experiences the children
ought to be receiving it s best to go back to the research and the reasons why the
Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) decided to change the curriculum. In 2001
The Learning Country report was published. This document, which researched into
the Welsh early year s educational system and compared it to those in other
countries in Europe and the rest of the world, paved the way and laid out strategies
for the roll out of the Foundation Phase (Davidson, 2001). One of the outcomes was
that the children should have more input in the planning and reviewing of their work
(Davidson, 2001). This is one of the key
Movie Precious Vs Precious
There are many experiences and situations one goes through throughout life that
shape them and make them who they are. There are numerous people in this world
who feel as though they have it so terrible in life, and that there is no way anyone
else could have it worse than they do. After watching the film Precious, based on the
novel Push by Sapphire, any person with this mindset would completely think
otherwise. The life lived by Claireece Precious Jones was utterly cruel and unusual.
Physical abuse plays a huge role in this film. I am so thankful that sexual abuse has
never played a role in my life. The toll it took on this young girl is so heartbreaking. I
could not bear having to be afraid to come home every day wondering if my father
is there waiting to hurt me. A father is someone who every little girl and young
lady should be excited to see when coming home. With everything she has had to
experience because of that disgusting man, she also learns that she has caught aids
from him. I m not sure what s worse, the fact that precious is a 16 year old young
girl who is sexually abused by her father and winds up with AIDS and pregnant, or
the fact that for the rest of life, she will have to keep such a secret from her daughter.
In the film, Precious mom has a strong hatred towards her daughter causing a life
full of emotional abuse for Precious. I myself, felt as though she was just upset with
her all the time because they lived in poverty and it was hard on her

Thomas Jefferson s Macaronni Machine
I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past. Thomas Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Thomas
Jefferson was born on 13 April 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. Jefferson s father grew
up in a modern family and was raised to be a farmer. His mother was more on the
wealthy side, while his mother was on the complete opposite side being raised in a
wealthy family, in friendship with the King Of England. Jefferson s father passed

He popularized macaroni and cheese in the USA! In a letter to Jefferson, William
Short, his secretary, wrote that he had kept a mould for making maccaroni in
Naples and had sent it to his mentor in Paris. However, it s most likely that the
macaroni machine didn t reach France until after Jefferson had left. In the words of
Jefferson, this is how much he loved his macaronni machine: The best maccaroni
in Italy is made with a particular sort of flour called Semola, in Naples: but in
almost every shop a different sort of flour is commonly used; for, provided the
flour be of a good quality, and not ground extremely fine, it will always do very
well. A paste is made with flour, water and less yeast than is used for making
bread. This paste is then put, by little at a time, viz. about 5. or 6. lb. each time into
a round iron box ABC, the under part of which is perforated with holes, through
which the paste, when pressed by the screw DEF, comes out, and forms the
Maccaroni g.g.g. which, when sufficiently long, are cut and spread to dry. The
screw is turned by a lever inserted into the hole K, of which there are 4. or 6. It is
evident that on turning the screw one way, the cylindrical part F. which fits the
iron box or mortar perfectly well, must press upon the paste and must force it out of
the holes. LLM. is a strong wooden frame, properly fastened to the wall, floor and
cieling of the room. N.O. is a figure, on a larger scale, of some of the holes in the iron
plate, where all the black is solid, and the rest open. The real plate has a great many
holes, and is screwed to the box or mortar: or rather there is a set of plates which may
be changed at will, with holes of different shapes and sizes for the different sorts of

Deconstruction of an Advertisement Essay COMM 10265 DECONSTRUCTING AN ADVERTISEMENT ASSIGNMENT Sexy Subaru Car Wash Sexy Subaru Car Wash Sexy Sumo Car Wash Video.flv YouTube Subaru puts a new Eastern satirical twist on the tradition Western sexy car wash in their advertisement for the Forrester which in place of Heidi Klum or Jessica Simpson sumo wrestlers scantily washing the new vehicle. This advertisement starts off with a dirty Forrester pulling into the car wash with seductive music playing in the background. (Lienert 2011) In this advertisement Subaru Canada is also portraying a sense of Japanese pride. Sumo wrestlers are honored in Japan and by replacing a Canadian or American supermodel with a symbol of Japanese pride, the sumo wrestler. This connects viewers with the pride of a Japanese manufactured car that the ad is trying to sell. What else is the ad selling? Sex sells is a long standing phrase that can be used to define the advertising industry and before this commercial was released many manufacturers marketed sexy car advertisements using Sports Illustrated swimsuit models or models of a similar stature. Subaru in lieu of the sexy bikini models has chosen to express their individuality by chosen a cultural representation to poke fun at traditional advertising. When King Philip got angry at Elizabeth for rejecting marriage proposals and converting England into Protestant, rejecting Catholicism, he took a fleet of ships called the Spanish Armada and launched an invasion against England. Many soldiers were concerned and disoriented, but when Queen Elizabeth step up and gave her speech, they were motivated enough to win the battle. The speech at Tilbury given by Queen Elizabeth was made for trust, unity and inspire her country, by using diction, point of view and figurative language, in the upcoming war. For Elizabeth, trust was one thing she needed the most. All her life, she has been lied to by everyone she knew, including her childhood friend, Robert Dudley. When she ascended the throne, she had many attempts that almost got her killed, but with the help of Sir Francis Walsingham, she eliminated all her enemies. She stated in her speech, I do not live to distrust my faithful and loving people, stating that she knows how it feels to be betrayed and be non trustworthy and so she argues that she will never be distrusting of her country and they shouldn t either. The way that she could achieve such purpose was with diction by using words such as assure , faithful , and even loving people , she gained many people to trust her for this one battle of their lives. Trust wasn t the only task that Elizabeth wanted to accomplish, as she

In The Short Stories, “Saving Sourdi,” By May-Lee Chai In the short stories, Saving Sourdi, by May Lee Chai and The Moths, by Helena Maria Viramontes, the main character of each short story goes through their own coming of age experience where they are forced to mature in order to overcome an obstacle. Chai explains her main character, Nea s, struggle as she is forced to mature and overcome the departure of her older sister, Sourdi, from her life after she gets married and moves away. Viramontes, on the other hand, depicts her narrator s struggle as she is forced to mature and overcome the death of her Abuelita on her own. Despite their very different approaches, both Chai and Viramontes successfully convey their main characters struggles in their journey from youth to adulthood. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So when Sourdi started dating the boy their family had hired to wash dishes at their restaurant, Duke, Nea never considered him to be a fork in the road, dividing [Nea s] life with Sourdi from Sourdi s life with men (Chai 84). Nea underestimated Sourdi and Duke s relationship and overestimated her and Sourdi s bond. Soon enough, their mother caught on and ended up firing Duke, but Duke and Sourdi continued to fall in love with each other. Nea wasn t surprised that Duke, the funny looking white kid , fell in love with her sister (Chai 84). Sourdi is so beautiful that she had some beauty to spare and Nea would sometimes pretend that she was beautiful too. Where Sourdi was smooth, Nea had angles; where Sourdi was soft, Nea had bone (Chai 84). Sourdi is reserved and calm in contrast to Nea who is quite outspoken and rigid. Regardless of their differences, Sourdi and Nea remained close; that was until Sourdi was arranged to be married to a much older gentleman, Mr. Chhay, at the tender age of eighteen. After getting married, Sourdi and Mr. Chhay moved a state away to Iowa, putting an even larger strain on Sourdi and Nea s relationship. Sourdi did not want to get married to Mr. Chhay as she was still in love with Duke, but it wasn t in Sourdi to fight back and go against her mother s wishes something Nea would have easily done. Nearly two years after Sourdi got married, Nea picks up a call from Sourdi one evening

A medical laparoscope is an instrument with a slender tube and an attached camera that the surgeon puts into one of the incisions in order to see where the damaged area is located. Your stomach is filled with gas so that the surgeon has a good view of the area where he will be working. One larger cut may be required if the surgeon needs to put a hand inside of the stomach to help remove the colon. It is not unusual to remove some lymph nodes while removing the damaged areas. The incisions will be closed with stitches or staples. OPEN SURGERY: The surgeon follows the same procedure as for the laparoscopic surgery, but there is only one large incision made in the lower stomach

As in the case of its sister crisis (the Great Depression), many scholars acknowledge that before this cataclysm struck, the preceding economy did in fact experience a boom period. Most critics are also in accordance that the trigger of this crisis had to involve the subprime mortgage bubble which collapsed in the United States however, that alone could not represent the exact causality of this crisis. Most of it appeared in the form of credit structures that were complexly structured (i.e. CDS), so therefore when pandemonium hit the market after the fall of the Lehman Brothers bank, the major default risk associated with these investments took many investors to their breaking point. Now in spite this, Bernanke also briefly mentioned that there were various other factors at work in explaining the severity of the crisis most notably the vulnerabilities in the system in addition to underperformances in government responses. Various factors Bernanke describes included; banks overreliance on short term wholesale funding, an over dependence on rating agencies, shortcomings in private sector risk management, excessive leverage on the part of households, businesses and financial firms as well as an overall failure of existing regulatory practices worldwide such as statutory gaps in regulation on special purpose vehicles (Bernanke). • 13. The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969). Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa, 2013). According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto,

America decided they wanted to expand their territory across the waters. There were many approaches that were suggested by previous presidents, all with the same goal: World Dominance. The Big Stick idea was brought to light from President Theodore Roosevelt. The plan reflected many of the same impulses that were motivating domestic reforms that were taking place in America. He wanted to expand that reform to Cuba. He wanted to send a message that reflected to nations America s new sense of world power. With this policy Presidents could exercise power unfettered and alone if he was overseas in an american territory. Roosevelt believed that a civilized (industrial) nation was to go in to uncivilized (non industrial) countries and have the right as well as the duty to intervene in the affairs of a backward nation to preserve order and stability, for the sake of both nations he said. Venezuela, for example, had a deteriorating economy that began to renege on debts of european bankers. These incidents that he was witness to inspired him to write The Deserted Village which is an extremely powerful and argumentative poem. The village of Auburn has been ruined by depopulation and the peasants that have been forced out of this small rural village have been left with no other choice but to flee to America in search of a better and more comfortable life. This poem is also based on the arrival of wealthy landlords to England with the intent to gain control of the poorer surrounding areas; it is clear from reading the poem that Goldsmith was not in favour of the social changes that were in occurrence. The social changes that he refers to are the Enclosure acts and indeed the early effects of the industrial revolution. Goldsmith does not like the effects of enclosure on rural life, it is clear that he is passionate about old traditions and does not like when they are altered and replaced by a way of life that is consumed by power and wealth. Goldsmith strongly believes that all the wealthy people in the world are corrupt and this is evident throughout this poem; he thinks the wealthier community are malevolent and that they do not take the poorer people of England into

The goal of the group could be focused on small group, such as the Japan Eraser Manufacturer s Association; or the goal could be focused on a large public group, such as family and friends of public school aged children in the United States. The role of an interest group in the United States and/or Texas political system is creating a relationship with the staff of congress. This relationship provides a window for the group to testify at hearings. The interest group provides personal transportation for their group members to vote in crucial elections. Some of their members will vote on their group issues since lobbying brings them in direct contact with the political candidates. The groups members are more than willing to teach their legislators about technology which the legislators sometimes lack this information. • 36. Designing A Product, Brand, And Service Unique A differentiation strategy is the efforts to make a product, brand, or service unique as compared to all other competitors, hence providing a competitive advantage (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 219). There are several key skills and resources that managers should be cognizant of in order to build and base their positive differentiated strategy. The following essay will expand on these topics which include skills and resources, as well as, organizational requirements. To begin with, skills and resources as well as organizational requirements of Apple s differentiation comes from the organizations core skills which includes the ability to make easy to use software, integration with other platforms such as iTunes, creative talent/skilled labor, and a sleek simple design (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 220). Another organization, Nike, has a differentiation strategy that resides in the company s brand, its long tradition in the industry, its partnership with elite professional athletes, and a strong coordination of functions in the value chain from R D to product development to advertising/marketing (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 220). There are a few risks associated with evaluating a differentiation strategy that a manager should be aware. First, imitation limits apparent differentiation, rendering it worthless (Pearce Robinson, 2011, p. 221). For instance, when Apple came out with the tablet there was an extreme differentiation, however, with the imitation developments

  • 38. In Response To The Globalization Of Superficiality Analysis In his 2010 speech, Rev. Adolfo NicolГЎs, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, said In response to the globalization of superficiality, I suggest that we need to study the emerging cultural world of our students more deeply and find creative ways of promoting depth of thought, and imagination, a depth that is transformative of the person. Fr. NicolГЎs is reminding us to take a step back when learning new information. He is reminding us to stand above the flood of information we experience faster and after due to new technology. He stresses the need for thought out information over fast information. The globalization of superficiality refers to this widespread trend of disconnection between well thought out human interaction. Father NicolГЎs is stressing the importance of considering sources and form our own analyses. But his concern stretches even deeper, to the way young people are using technology to hide from the world and connection with others. He is calling for Jesuit education to encourage deeper evaluation and participation of life s experiences. Computer Science is a rapidly growing field, not only in the US but all over the world. Through a semester abroad I hope to learn more about the world as well as how CS is growing overseas. Father NicolГЎs addressed how technology has increased the stresses access to information as fast as possible, over the quality of the information. Both through technology as my chosen field but also away from the world of zeros and ones. Although Father NicolГЎs is describing technology as the driving force behind the globalization of superficiality, I want my experience abroad to increase how I use my information to expand my depth of thought and imagination and use my computer skills to help others do so too. Father NicolГЎs mentions a pedagogy of Ignatian contemplation, how Ignatius asked us to look at all our senses when responding to a new experience. I can employ this method to my new experiences while studying abroad, in my studies toward my major and in exposure to another culture. Father NicolГЎs is reminding us to stop and smell the roses when experiencing new things, to take time to connect with others and our present surroundings. I fully intend

The first thing I realized when sitting down at the tea gathering table was the amount of utensils there were to make a cup of tea and the traditional clothing TeaMaster Michael Fung was wearing. This made me feel like Tea Master Michael Fung was deeply passionate and interested in the art of tea. As more students came, I realized that it was very cramped. It reminded me of a quote when Dr. Jack said that it was best to drink tea with only two people and the more we have the more it feels uncomfortable. During the beginning of the ceremony, Tea Master Michael Fung, owner of The Best Tea House Co. , took many aged Pu er tea cakes for us to experiment and observe. Additionally, everyone wants free Wi Fi, especially when mobile social networking has tremendously grown over the past decade. Therefore, due to the explosion of mobile devices, consumers are now more connected than ever. Thus, they have come to expect businesses to offer free Wi Fi. Further, free Wi Fi can be an effective businessstrategy, and has proven to be a competitive advantage for a company that decides to offer it. However, first a business must decide if the service is going to be free to all, free to only a select few, or a monthly charge. Consequently, businesses that decline to offer the free service, are at risk of declining foot traffic and sales. Although some of the businesses that decide to offer free Wi Fi, may discover that the service can, increase brand awareness, increase the time that a customer spends on the premises, and increase foot traffic, which in turn, can translate into sales. Free Wi Fi is currently available at some public and private businesses. However, a consumermay decide not to frequent a business that does not offer the free service, instead, choosing to shop at a business that does. Further, verses 8 14 is all about the poet s exhortations, which consisted of 10 imperatives and seven poetic lines, with emphasis on verse 11 (Bosma, n.d.). Also, it is noteworthy that verse 15 describes the Lord as attentive most especially to the righteous; and verse 16 talks about His negative attitude towards those who perform evil (Bosma, n.d.). 4. Describe poetical devices in the psalm, including examples of parallelism (at least two types) and figures of speech (at least three types). Psalm 34:17 ultimately corresponds thematically with verses 4 and 7. Bosma (n.d.) believed that this is evident because of the lexical parallels between in verses 4, 6 and 17. Also, Verses 15 21 reflect the poet s use of alternating parallelism (Bosma, n.d.). There are various figures of speech evident in this psalm. First, verse 13 represents synecdoche because the tongue and lips meant to represent the poet as a whole. Second, verse 16 shows anthropomorphism because of the use of the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, which in turn signifies the explicit comparison of God to the aspect of mankind (Bible Getaway, n.d.). Lastly, acrostic is also evident in Psalm 34 because each verse begun with a letter of the alphabet in

Beatric is the only human who establish real love and who wants to love and be loved. Giovanni is the young protagonist. That he views the garden from his lofty window suggests his perspective on the complexity of good and evil embodied in Beatrice . When he first begins to understand that she is dangerous, he dismisses his suspicions as fantasy ; however, as he becomes more concerned with himself than with her, he eventually calls her a poisonous thing who has contaminated him, making him as hateful, as ugly, as loathsome and deadly a creature as she. By the end of the story, his selfishness completely blinds him to her goodness, and as a result, he gives her the antidote provided by Baglioni, in this way hoping to redeem her from her evil nature and save her for a life of love with him. Why The Welsh Assembly Government ( Wag ) The Foundation Phase was introduced to nursery level children at the start of the 2008 2009 academic year and each year after until all students in nursery, reception, year 1 and year 2 were taking part in this first stage of the new Welsh Curriculum (DCELLS, 2008a). The curriculum for the Foundation Phase is set out in The Framework for Children s learning for 3 to 7 year olds in Wales (The Framework) (DCELLS, 2012). The main focus for the Foundation Phase curriculum is that the children learn by gaining first hand experience through activities that may challenge them but are enjoyable so that they the children seek out experimental learning and active involvement themselves (DCELLS, 2008a). The Framework has several key messages (DCELLS, 2008a) and they link with the experiences that the children should be having. To get a better understanding of the experiences the children ought to be receiving it s best to go back to the research and the reasons why the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) decided to change the curriculum. In 2001 The Learning Country report was published. This document, which researched into the Welsh early year s educational system and compared it to those in other countries in Europe and the rest of the world, paved the way and laid out strategies for the roll out of the Foundation Phase (Davidson, 2001). One of the outcomes was that the children should have more input in the planning and reviewing of their work (Davidson, 2001). This is one of the key
  • 53. Movie Precious Vs Precious There are many experiences and situations one goes through throughout life that shape them and make them who they are. There are numerous people in this world who feel as though they have it so terrible in life, and that there is no way anyone else could have it worse than they do. After watching the film Precious, based on the novel Push by Sapphire, any person with this mindset would completely think otherwise. The life lived by Claireece Precious Jones was utterly cruel and unusual. Physical abuse plays a huge role in this film. I am so thankful that sexual abuse has never played a role in my life. The toll it took on this young girl is so heartbreaking. I could not bear having to be afraid to come home every day wondering if my father is there waiting to hurt me. A father is someone who every little girl and young lady should be excited to see when coming home. With everything she has had to experience because of that disgusting man, she also learns that she has caught aids from him. I m not sure what s worse, the fact that precious is a 16 year old young girl who is sexually abused by her father and winds up with AIDS and pregnant, or the fact that for the rest of life, she will have to keep such a secret from her daughter. In the film, Precious mom has a strong hatred towards her daughter causing a life full of emotional abuse for Precious. I myself, felt as though she was just upset with her all the time because they lived in poverty and it was hard on her

He popularized macaroni and cheese in the USA! In a letter to Jefferson, William Short, his secretary, wrote that he had kept a mould for making maccaroni in Naples and had sent it to his mentor in Paris. However, it s most likely that the macaroni machine didn t reach France until after Jefferson had left. In the words of Jefferson, this is how much he loved his macaronni machine: The best maccaroni in Italy is made with a particular sort of flour called Semola, in Naples: but in almost every shop a different sort of flour is commonly used; for, provided the flour be of a good quality, and not ground extremely fine, it will always do very well. A paste is made with flour, water and less yeast than is used for making bread. This paste is then put, by little at a time, viz. about 5. or 6. lb. each time into a round iron box ABC, the under part of which is perforated with holes, through which the paste, when pressed by the screw DEF, comes out, and forms the Maccaroni g.g.g. which, when sufficiently long, are cut and spread to dry. The screw is turned by a lever inserted into the hole K, of which there are 4. or 6. It is evident that on turning the screw one way, the cylindrical part F. which fits the iron box or mortar perfectly well, must press upon the paste and must force it out of the holes. LLM. is a strong wooden frame, properly fastened to the wall, floor and cieling of the room. N.O. is a figure, on a larger scale, of some of the holes in the iron plate, where all the black is solid, and the rest open. The real plate has a great many holes, and is screwed to the box or mortar: or rather there is a set of plates which may be changed at will, with holes of different shapes and sizes for the different sorts of
