1.Introduction:
Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) is defined by a weight for height ratio below 3z scores of the
median WHO growth standards, through visible severe wasting or through the presence of nutritional
oedema 1 . SAM affects twenty million children under the age of five worldwide where one million of
these children die every year1. Senegal, a country in West Africa with an estimated population of 13
million people experiences a 20% mortality rate in children affected by SAM 2. This report will
outline the current state of SAM in Senegal, programs and policies presented in Senegal in efforts to
reduce the prevalence of SAM, evident gaps in these programs with a description of a suggested
policy not currently employed and its implications.
Burden:
In 2014, 2.25 million people in Senegal suffered from insecurity of food with 340,000 children under
five suffering from acute malnutrition and 79,000 experiencing severe acute malnutrition 2. Senegal is
divided into fourteen regions, further divided into forty five departments. Nine of these departments
experienced critical levels of SAM in 2013 with an additional five departments experiencing threshold
SAM levels in addition to diarrhea and respiratory illnesses. Thus, fourteen departments continue to
require immediate attention to treating SAM 2.

Roseanne As A Deviant In A TV Show
The definition of Deviance, according to Google is the fact or state of departing from usual or
accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior (Google, 2016). For someone to be deviant,
they are going against what is considered normal or morally correct in their group. Hearing the word
deviant may sound like someone committed a crime, but that is not the case at all. When someone is
deviant, they are just doing what they want to do, which may go against what is normal to their social
group, family, religion, and/or other sources. In this paper I will discuss how deviance is portrayed in a
television show I watch called Roseanne. I will also discuss labeling and how individuals are labeled,
as well as who is doing the labeling.
The television show, Roseanne , was one of my favorites growing up. At the time it was just

This television show portrayed a subversive comedic feminist named, Roseanne. Roseanne has a
husband, Dan, who works construction and three rowdy children. The main character Roseanne was a
complete opposite of the women that the media portrayed as the norm during the 1950s. Roseanne
displayed her daily struggles of balancing work, as well as taking care of her family. This completely
contradicts the other sitcoms that portrayed the American Dream, which was huge at the time. For
example, there is a scene in the show where Roseanne is fantasying about her future after her sister,
Jackie, shares her experience from a visualization seminar she went to. Also throughout the show
Roseanne jokes about giving up her own children to live out her happiness, basically saying that her
children require too much constant attentions. Besides contradicting the

Character Development in Edward Abbey s The Monkey Wrench Gang
Search and Rescue, Utah State Police, and Bishops of the Church of Latter Day Saints chase a group
of bridge destroying, billboard burning, bulldozer mutilating eco terrorists through the desert of the
Southwest. The group known as the Monkey Wrench Gang consists of four very different characters:
Seldom Seen Smith, also known as Joseph Smith, George Washington Hayduke, Doctor A. K. Sarvis,
and Bonnie Abbzug. Each character has his own opinion of why nature needs to be saved. The group
decides to make their mark on nature by taking care of the different machines, roads and bridges that

Let?s Save Some of It (14) plastered on the back bumper.
George Washington Hayduke, Vietnam veteran from Tucson, Arizona, has a distaste for the way the
Southwest is becoming industrialized. He found it, no longer what he remembered, no longer the clear
and classical desert. . . . Someone or something was changing things (15). That ultimate world . . . of
meat, blood, fire, water, rock, wood, sun, wind, sky, night, cold, dawn, warmth, life. Those short and
irreducible words which stand for almost everything he thinks he has lost (355). In Hayduke?s
opinion, This is my country. Mine and Seldom?s and Doc?s yeah, hers too (336) and anyone who
would want to mess with it is in trouble.
Seldom Seen Smith, a Mormon and husband to three women all from Utah, guides river trips down
Lee?s Ferry for a living. Smith, like Hayduke, remembers the Southwest to be something different. He
recalls, the golden river flowing to the sea. . . . He remembers the canyons. . . and the amphitheaters
(31). What he doesn?t remember is all these things lay[ing] beneath the dead water of the reservoir
(31). A true autochthonic patriot, Smith swears allegiance only to the land he knows (358). All the
members of the gang agree with Smith and feel that they want a counter industrial revolution (211).
Edward Abbey uses various types of slang to get each character?s opinions across to the reader. For
example, when Hayduke asks if Doc thinks he is a

Liberal Arts Should Be Taught In College Essay
What is Being Taught in College?
What should colleges be teaching, is a question that many people are wanting an answer to. Should
colleges be teaching students liberal arts or should they just let liberal arts classes slip away? This a
controversy between students on every college campus. It is important to the students, because they
want what is best for themselves during college. I believe that students need to be taught liberal arts to
help better their learning abilities. In my own experience, I have learned that liberal arts classes may
be frustrating, but in the long run they have really helped to develop a better grasp on general
education. Liberal arts classes are a good way to begin college, instead of just jumping right in to a
major.
Colleges should teach liberal arts because they help students develop better learning skills. ... Show

Students will still learn the same way, whether there are a lot of students or a little. Smaller class size
do not make a student perform better, that is up to the student, not the class size. Students can learn in
any type of environment; class size does not matter when it comes to a students learning ability.
Learning is not about where the knowledge is learned, it is about how it is learned and if a student is
willing to learn it. Some might also oppose that colleges should not make students take liberal arts
classes. Liberal arts classes do not always help a student develop better learning skills. Some liberal
arts classes are not even relevant to a students major. Having to take classes that are not relevant to a
student can be overwhelming and frustrating for them. It is too expensive for them to have to pay for
classes that are not relevant to their major. Students should be able to choose what classes they want to
enroll in and how they want to do it. In all reality, they are the ones that have to pay for their

The Invisible Child By Andrea Elliot
In the Invisible Child written by Andrea Elliot, a lifestyle of a homeless girl named Dasani and her
family is shown. Elliot displays Dasani s culture, and some of the struggles that she and her family
face daily because they are homeless. Dasani is very dedicated to her school work. She wants to be
better than anyone in her family ever was so she doesn t have to worry about being homeless for the
rest of her life. In some ways I can relate to Dasani, I am very passionate about my school work as
well. I want to excel so I can be my very best in the future. However, our reasoning s for wanting to be
the best we can be are a little different. She wants to excel so she no longer has to worry about being
homeless whereas I ve never been homeless so I cannot say the exact same. I grew up being a very
privileged kid. Both of my parents worked full time good paying jobs. I ve never had to want for much
of anything. My parents have always spoiled me with nice things, they have always made sure my
siblings and I had nice clothes and a decent meal to eat. They are even paying for me to attain a
college education. Dasani and her family however are a lot different from mine. In the Invisible Child
Elliot tells us how Dasani s parents do not have legit jobs, instead they have side hustles that only
bring in a few dollars. Elliot states (2013) that a lot of mornings Dasani was starving at school because
she had no breakfast. Dasani and her siblings also had to wear clothes that were

Mitochondria In The Cytoplasm Of Eukaryotic
Mitochondria are organelles found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells and play a crucial role in the
respiration of the cell (Bandelt et al, 2006). Mitochondria are thought to have originated as free living
bacteria that parasited proto eukaryotic cells~1.5 billion years ago and have since remained in an
endosymbiotic relationship inside eukaryotic cells (Margulis, 1981). The mitochondria preserve
remnants of the original bacterial genome coding for key aspects of the mitochondrial machinery, but
over the course of evolution, most mitochondrial genes have been transferred to the nucleus. The
extent of these nuclear insertions was estimated to represent at least 400,000 base pairs (bp) in the
human genome (Qu, Ma, Li, 2008). The number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sequencing of entire molecules represents the ultimate approach to acquire information from the
maternally inherited mitochondrial genome. With this approach in the past few years, more and more
data have been obtained for reconstructing the world mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) phylogeny and for
discerning the phylogenetic status of the (sub)continentally specific haplogroups (Qing Peng et al.,
2006). A well reconstructed phylogeny helps to gain unique and valuable insights for elucidating
human evolution and pioneer settlement patterns; for instance, complete mtDNA sequence data
indicate that our ancestors adopted a single route to leave Africa and then migrated rapidly along the
Asian coast (Qing Peng et al., 2006). Group specific genetic variation allows all human mtDNA
genomes to be grouped into distinct clusters called haplogroups based on diagnostic nucleotide
polymorphisms. Each haplogroup can be identified based upon the sum of control and coding region
variation compared to the established Cambridge Reference Sequence (rCRS; Figure 1b) (Kim et al.,
2013). The coding region variation is diagnostic for most haplogroups (Torroni et al.,

The Movie Cool Hand Luke
The Movie Cool Hand Luke is about a middle aged man who gets put into prison after getting caught
cutting off the heads of parking meters. You view his experience in the prison and how he refuses to
conform to the standards held by the jail and the rest of the current prisoners. Unfortunately at the end,
Luke ends up getting shot and killed. After viewing the movie Cool Hand Luke there were three main
psychological themes that were very prevalent on the basis of the film. The three Psychological
themes consisted of Obedience to Authority, Conformity, and Nonconformity meaning that it will be
addressed how society affects the way individuals behave, think, and feel. First and foremost, The first
thing that is going to be addressed within prevalence in the film is obedience to authority. Obedience
to Authority can be defined by looked at two terms discussed by Dr.Glavin in lecture. First is
Compliance when the target s behavior conforms to the source s requests (Glavin,2016) and Authority
the capacity of one member to issue orders to others by invoking rights that are vested in their role .
(Glavin,2016). In The movie, there is set rules for all of the prisoners to follow to be considered
keeping up to the prisons standards of what is considered to be ideal. The prison establishes these
rules to enforce their authority over the prisoners and show that they have the upper head inevitability
leading to obedience by the prisoners. At the beginning of the movie when Luke

Sully Movie Analysis
Background and Plot Summary
Sully is a film based on the true event of the 2009 crash landing of US Airways flight 1549. The film,
directed by Clint Eastwood, details the entire true story as told by Captain Chesley Sully Sullenberger,
who piloted flight 1549. Sullenberger (the main character who is the basis for the current analysis)
was played by Tom Hanks. The film details everything from the initial bird strike, the root cause of the
crash, to the hearings held by the National Transportation Safety Board (more commonly known as
the NTSB). These hearing were to discuss the actions of Sullenberger and his First Officer on the day
of the crash. These hearings lasted months; and the film gave the audience an inside look at what

Often, a person in an immensely stressful event denies it ever happened. Sidestep: this was the case
for several of the passengers on the flight as depicted in the film. One could obviously tell from the
film that Sullenberger has accepted that his plane had indeed crashed. Sullenberger, even when alone
to himself, never denied that the crash had occurred. Perhaps this was because of his resilience.
Whatever the case may be, acceptance, as it was depicted in the film, was one of Sullenberger s
biggest strengths related to adjustment. It is also essential to mention that Sullenberger used positive
coping mechanisms to cope with the residual stress of the hearings, and the crash itself. These will be
looked at a little later, but should be, nonetheless, a considered a considerable adjustment

Summer Night Monologue
You got what you wished for... I wish Summer was here, she would know what to do... Rachel felt that
this would be her last thought, and it was fitting. It was her fault Summer disappeared. And now,
Rachel cowered in fear of the shady flying figures hissing and charging at her. She had a dreadful
feeling that this was the result of Summer leaving. Why hadn t she listened to her? Summer was
always fond of the saying, Careful what you wish for, you might just get it!, and now she got it.

The way she said it shocked Rachel. Summer was a sweet soul, someone who couldn t bring herself to

her sword, and shouted a battle cry. Summer charged the Shades, seemingly without fear. When she
got close to the leading Shade, she brought down the hilt of her sword, and busted it over its head. The
Shade fell, screaming, towards the ground, where Summer shot a burst of light from her sword
towards it, and it disappeared with a pop and a fading shriek. With the lead Shade gone, the others
hesitated, then realized that there was only one Summer, and over a dozen of them. They hissed and
flew towards Summer. while Summer was still staring at the spot the Shade disappeared in, not paying
attention to the battle, just like how she never paid attention in

By exploring the social inclusion and exclusion created by the notion of money, this PIP utilises the
cross cultural comparison of high and low socioeconomic households to investigate the question, How
does Socioeconomic Status affect Academic Success? Additionally, this PIP also examines the
continuity and change of society s perception of academic success as a critical component of the social
and cultural literacy process.
Secondary sources such as academic journals and news articles provided macro perspectives which
formed the basis of my primary research. My primary research consisted of a questionnaire revealing
significant quantitative data regarding the correlation between socioeconomic status and academic
success from different social and generational perspectives. A focus group provided a diverse range of
personal perspectives and beliefs, focusing on the stereotypes of different social classes and its
correlation with academic success. Additionally, the qualitative data also illustrates society s changing
perception on academic success.
A content analysis on Struggle Street provided personal insight into the struggles and prejudice of
individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds, allowing me to empathise with their perspectives.
Conclusively, structured interviews conducted via email with Professor Geoff Williams, provided a
more legitimised perspective that adds to the textual integrity and validity to the PIP.

of all the police brutality that we have seen in the media. The kneeling in the national anthem started

Though these changes in awareness came too slowly, Lestat was soon kidnapped by the Devil, and

Social Interaction In Human Society
Social interaction is what make up our human society. Through interaction, we socialize with our
family, friends, people in the community to strengthen our relationship with each other. Through
socialization, human society is established and become the foundation for everything inside the
society. Our society is more complex than any society found in nature, but it s not perfect nor ideal for
every member inside the society. Thus, the thought of an ideal society as well as how to achieve that
society is very fascinating among sociologists, whose role is to solve social problems and develop this
theory. Human society is composed of multiple factors: individuals who work together in the same
environment and contribute to the society; cultures which were passed down by previous generations
and become the foundation for the future in spirituals, values, beliefs and norms; materials that people
consume or use to develop society and improve their live (agriculture, infrastructure...); social
organizations and institutions which regulate the behavior of people like laws, religions, government,
religions...to help guide them down the path accepted by the majority. All these components work
together to maintain order, and thrive human society forward, eventually lead to an ideal society
where every individual can have their need fulfills, and most of the social problems solved. As human
society advance forward, so will the structure of the society. There have been many type of societies

In a 22 month span, starting in July 1979, 30 African American children and young men were
murdered or disappeared in Atlanta, Georgia (Nickell 1 of 2). Due to the various motives that each

However only 1 person was ultimately charged with these homicides. The person that was found

The largest piece of evidence against Williams was numerous similar fibers connected to the victims
and Williams s environment (Deadman 2 of 14). The various fiber evidence in this case was deemed
essential and the strongest scientific link in this case (Nickell 2 of 2). There were over 28 fiber types
involved in this case that linked to Williams, and of these 28, 14 were from a rug or carpet (Deadman
13 of 14). These fibers were associated with a bedroom carpet in Wayne Williams home, his
bedspread, a yellow blanket found under that bed, a leather jacket hanging in Wayne s closet, a gray
glove in his station wagon... (Plummer 2 of 3). Dog hairs, which were traced to Williams s German
Shepard Sheba, were also found; as well as scalp hairs that linked Williams to one of the victims,
Patrick Baltazar. The scalp hairs were 98% similar to Wayne Williams, and the DNA sequence of the
dog hairs could only be found in 1 out of 100 dogs. The combination of the hair, and fibers at the same
location strengthened the case against Williams. A multitude of yellow green nylon fibers and some
violet acetate fibers were located on the bodies and clothing of the victims (Deadman 2 of 14). Fibers

Organizational Changes Within The Public Bodies
1. Introduction
With the rapid growth of globalization, organizations face rapid changes like before. This is because
globalization has significantly increased the markets as well as the opportunities for more growth and
revenue. Campbell and Brown (2015) have opined that in the present scenario of stiff climatic
pressure as well as evolving political priorities, organizational changes within the public bodies is
gradually increasing the priority. Therefore, it can be stated that organizational is one of the complex
processes that have negative as well as positive outcomes and as such it is worth looking at the
available evidence so that the process is conducted as efficiently as well as effectively as possible. In
this particular task the main focus would be on some of the integral parts of organizational changes
and to carry on this particular task, Yahoo has been selected.
Therefore, through this research work, the researcher would try to outline as well as discuss the role of
diagnosis as well as feedback in the overall process of organizational changes and the ways to achieve
that efficiently (Carlson 2015). Apart from that, an analysis would be made to find out whether the
feedback is an essential element in an organizational development intervention or not. It has been
found that Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo has been in the headlines as she has introduced some of the
organizational changes into the corporation. The changed policies adopted in the company have been

The Mystery Of Capital By Richard Mcgregor
Economics is something that most people don t understand such as; what is so important about it? One
major portion of economics is the fact that if we did not have this one word we most likely not be able
to have a free market as well as prosperous nations all around the world. Yet Hernando DeSoto author
of The Mystery of Capital conveys the idea that the markets in other countries around the world are
different because of the system that each set country has. For example a country with a government
that keeps their peoples and nations in hopeless poverty and nothing can help unless they change the
way the run the country. Richard McGregor author of The Party: the Secret World of Chinas

DeSoto talks about something else that he argues that is necessary for capitalist economy to produce
wealth which would the location in which the conduct their jobs. If the jobs are located in a place
where investors can t reach them or hear about what work they conduct it won t help, but rather send
them lower into bankrupt. He argues that if the people that are conducting these works don t own
interests in the property because they don t have a representational process everything that they
produce will amount to nothing for them and anyone else that is interested in investing. This is called
dead capital is something that can t be used as an investment. This is what the poverty countries don t
seem to comprehend. One main reason for this is because people in poor country don t understand
what the west has and that would be that if you don t have property rights then in reality all you have
is a location that provides abundance but nothing that can be used or sold. The west is a point in every
other nation that is something they admire because they have created something that they do not have.
Another obstacle to get over would be the point that property rights should be enforced and made
accessible because if this occurs the poverty line will lower and there will for this from other locations

Analyzing Andrews The Existential Crisis
In The Existential Crisis , Andrews (2016) explains how modern society struggles to figure out the
self. Existential crises produce anxiety within an individual until the crisis has been resolved. Three
versions of existential crises have been identified: sophomore crisis, adult existential crisis, and later
existential crisis. The sophomore crisis occurs when it is hard to identify the dimensions of the self
which is usually in the late teens to early 20s. This can be resolved by helping the individual figure out
future events. The adult existential crisis occurs in the late 20s. Proponents of the sophomore crisis
carry over to the adult existential crisis with an intensity of identity questioning. crisis. The later
existential crisis is the reflection over one s life. Issues such as fear of death or pain occur in the later
existential Relationships and careers are ways to measure the severity of an existential crisis
(Andrews, 2016). The severity of an existential crisis depends on how much dissatisfaction occurs at
work or how much the relationship is failing. Existential crises differ depending on the stage one is in

La Booheme And Rent
Musical theatre has been a form of art and entertainment for hundreds of years. The early example of
opera plays is Dofene, performed in 1597. La boheme was written and composed by Giacomo
Puccini. The play is based in a french play Scénes de la vie de boléme by Henri Murger published in
1851. The world premiere was in Turin, Italy in 1896. This was close to the end of the 19th century
where the theatre was turning from romanticism more into the genre of social realism. In contrast,
Rent was written in 1996 which was close to the end of 20th century. During this one century, many
things were acceptable by the society that were not acceptable during the time of La boheme. Rent
demonstrates the things that would normally not be performed in a theatre. In other words, the movie
provokes some audience. This essay is going to explain how interconnected audience and the theatre is
and how they affect each other.

Both La boheme and Rent shows a story of lives of common people who are poor and need to pay rent
to the landlord. Unlike common opera, La boheme shows the mixture of romanticism and social
realism. Each genre have their own function and purpose. Romanticism shows the only good sides of
the world while social realism shows the issues common people are facing daily. When the audience
goes watch a romanticist play, they expect to feel happy and away from the real woeld. As opposed to,
the audience would expect social issues and things that might provoke them from a social realism
play. As the plays have a time difference of a hundred years, they affect the audience differently and as
the norms of society change, the boundaries change too. They impact each other

The Depletion Of The Ozone Layer
Over hundreds of thousands of years humans have adapted their way of life to the environment they
live in resulting in us developing different physical attributes, shelters, clothing, foods, languages and
beliefs. But there are elements in our world that all humans, no matter where or how they live depend
on, water and air. Both are essential for life but air also protects all of us and it is therefore
understandable that the response to the depletion of the ozone layer became international. This essay
will look at what the ozone layer is, why it was depleting, how the international response to this
situation developed and what this collaboration means for our future.
The envelope of gases surrounding the earth is called the atmosphere and it serves three critical
functions: it provides life giving oxygen, keeps the earth warm, and protects us from deadly ultraviolet
(UV) radiation from the sun. Most of the atmosphere consists of nitrogen and oxygen (See Figure 1).
But these gases do not keep us warm or protect the earth from UV rays. For these functions you have
to turn to some of the trace gases found in the atmosphere, commonly referred to as greenhouse gases.
They are: water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and nitrous oxide.
These trace gases function like the transparent covering of a greenhouse, allowing sunlight to filter
through to the earth s surface, then trapping in the heat. Without this greenhouse effect the earth s
temperature would plummet far

Gender Discrimination In Sports
Gender discrimination in the sports industry has always been a controversial topic. Gender equality in
sports has come a long way. Like when UNESCO recognized sports and physical activity as a human
right in 1978. Discrimination is defined as unjust treatment of different categories of people or things.
Discrimination towards people has been around for a long time and it s affecting the entire world and
has taken large steps towards being demolished. These large steps have been taken to make the world
a better place and a lot of these discriminations have gotten smaller over time, but many of these are
still seen in everyday life, unfortunately. Discrimination against females has been a constant battle due
to the world being extremely male dominant. Women have had to fight against discrimination for
many things, such as freedom of speech, the right to vote, and equal rights to work. Women were
expected to be stay at home parents, taking care of the cleaning and housekeeping, and raising the
kids, and were not allowed to be on the workforce, do things they enjoy, or even get a little freedom.
Female discrimination in sports is a common issue all around the world, women are seen as not as
good as males, equality in sports is unequal, and the amount of pay and media coverage is different for
each sport and gender. We believe in making sure that women have the equal opportunity to enjoy the
benefits of sports by tackling sexism in sports at all levels. This includes challenging

Tort Laws Should Be Legal
Tort laws are laws that offer remedies to individuals harmed by the unreasonable actions of others.
Tort claims usually involve state law and are based on the legal premise that individuals are liable for
the consequences of their conduct if it results in injury to others (McCarthy Cambron McCabe, 1992).
One of the major, most well known tort categories is negligence, which is usually a situation when
someone accidentally does wrong, which in turns causes injury to another person. In a negligent tort
claim the plaintiff must prove four elements to have a successful claim. The first element is duty, a
plaintiff must prove that a duty of care was owed by the the defendant (Lau Johnson, 2011). The
second element is that the defendant breached that duty. The third element is causation. The plaintiff
must also prove an actual connection between the defendant s conduct and the resulting harm. A
casual causation, in which case the defendants actions directly caused the injury, or a proximate
causation is one in which the defendant s actions were the proximate cause of the plaintiff s injury.
Deciding if there is proximate cause can be more difficult to determine, as it must be concluded that
the injury was foreseeable. If the injury was not foreseeable than proximate cause does not exist.
Lastly, the fourth element of a negligent tort claim is damages or recognizable injuries. The injury
must be actual, real and not imaginary but can be physical, emotional, monetary or

Water Pollution And Its Effects On Aquatic Life
Water Pollution and its Effects on Aquatic Life
Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionary biology, states in his theory of evolution that only
organisms better fit to survive in their environment will survive. Based on his theory and research, it
can be concluded that challenges to the environment directly affect the organisms. Research shows
that in particular water pollution; hospital wastewater and sewage wastewater, is shown to cause
antibiotic resistant microorganisms, excess nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus as well as heavy
metals that harm the aquatic life present in the body of water. Antibiotic resistant microorganisms refer
to organisms that cannot be killed by antibiotics such as penicillin or ampicillin. The heavy metals
referred to are, mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), thallium (Tl), and lead
(Pb); these metals mainly impact fish.
As mentioned above one of the key sources of water pollution is hospital wastewater. It has been
reported that local wastewater treatment plants are unequipped to treat the wastewater completely
(Nielsen) and therefore hazardous to the environment. Part of the hospital wastewater are antibiotics
that come out in active form because it has not been completely metabolized. (Ahmad, M., et al.). This
means that the antibiotics have not been completely broken down and can still kill bacteria present in
the water body. The presence of antibiotics would not be a critical issue if it was simply killing off

New South Wales s Impact On Social And Economic Development
New South Wales was given self government because of social, economical and political development
in the 19th century that would change society. In 1810, Lachlan Macquarie became the Governor of
New South Wales creating tremendous impact for social and economic development. Macquarie was
the last autocratic Governor of New South Wales from 1819 1821, as New South Wales would
transition from a penal colony to a self governed society. Macquarie established economic growth in
many forms as public works, churches and charitable institutions creating employment and commerce.
He also sought a strong relationship with the Aborigines that helped create peace unity with the
Europeans that would settle in New South Wales. In 1810 1850, the social and political development
in New South Wales saw a rise in squattocracy and the formation of political groups in Sydney with
new demands. It remains significant to explore why New South Wales was given self government with
focus social and political development that would change creating economic growth to form a new
society.
From 1810 to 1821, New South Wales was governed by Lachlan Macquarie who later would be called
The Father of Australia . Macquarie was among the first military governors of New South Wales and
the last aristocratic governor of this territory. Macquarie vision was to transform New South Wales
from a traditional penal convict establishment to a society that was more reflective of the English

Persuasive Essay On Climate Crisis
As advances in technology and medicine lead to longer lifespans and lowered mortality from disease,
some people worry about overpopulating the earth. These people also argue that aid work will fuel the
population growth and demolish one of the only forms of population control. Melinda Gates explains
that as people work to provide more education and contraceptives to women in third world countries,
the birth rate will naturally decrease, especially as they worry less about having a child survive into
adulthood (Rosen). Currently there is enough to sustain the population and its growth in the years to
come; presently the issue is not the number of people, but rather, the distribution and effective use of
resources.
The World Economic Forum s Global Shaper Survey shows that most millennials agree that climate
change is the most urgent issue and that they can do something to fix it (Jackson). Bill Gates has
mentioned the possibility of a new charity dedicated to solving the climate change issue because he
views it as the most imminent threat to the survival and advancement of humanity. An article on The
Guardian even mentions that The foundation s annual letter for 2015 says their achievements could be
undone by the advancing climate crisis. (Mathiesen). Gates has even theorized that, at the current rate,
we could be facing serious climatic consequences in as little as 15 or 20 years.

How Does Capote Describe The Town Holcomb
Although, Capote writes about a monumental murder he focuses in on how graceful Holcomb is
before the murder; therefore, Capote verbalizes even if a town is safe it can be threatening anywhere.
Capote uses literary devices such as anaphora to describe the town Holcomb to give readers a
comprehension on how Holcomb acted before the chaos began. In the beginning of the book Capote
reports Holcomb town as, Like the waters of the river, like the motorists on the highway, and like the
yellow streaking down the Santa Fe tracks, drama, in the shape of exceptional happenings, has never
stopped there (Capote 5). Life in Holcomb was as if the town had its own little world and nothing

Analysis Of Barbie Doll
Vying for Perfection (1a) The poem Barbie Doll written by Marge Piercy contains several denotations
and connotations throughout the work. Denotation, signifying the literal meaning or dictionary
definition, whereas connotation signifies the various meanings related to the word. In the poem, the
words cosmetics (20) and happy ending (25) stood out. The poet writes, In the casket displayed on
satin she lay / with the undertaker s cosmetics painted on, / a turned up putty nose, /. (lines 19 21)
Cosmetics as presented in Webster s Dictionary is relating to or making for beauty especially of the
complexion. The reader could also interpret that word as maybe not just to look better but to also mask
the internal struggle that the individual is dealing with. Using make up, women more so like to paint a
facade to feel and look a certain way to attract others, as the woman in the poem does. Going to the
next phrase, happy ending , denotes that it will end on a good note for the protagonist. To every
woman a happy ending. (line 25) Happy ending could also be characterized, especially in this poem as
the opposite. The woman throughout the poem is struggling to appeal like a Barbie Doll on the
exterior and wants to fulfill society s own preference for beautiful causing the female to resort to

Impulsivity Using BART Tasks
Abstract. This study was done to test two hypotheses . The first being Different groups of intensities of
impulsivity (Barratt s Impulsiveness Scale scores) will increase along with the Balloon Analogue risk

three different groups correlated with the BART scores.

give more insight on a situation. Some digressions may be used as guidance in how to live one s life.
The digression on page fifty two in lines 884 through 914 of Beowulf in The Norton Anthology:
English Literature Volume A, the entertainer who is singing in Beowulf s honor after he slew the
monster Grendel. To the characters of Beowulf, the song is simply entertainment, but to the reader it is
foreknowledge of future events that will unfold as the story continues. The digression is used to hint to
Beowulf s fight with the dragon, becoming king, and tell what kind of king Beowulf will not be in the
future. The digression begins as a story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the well being of his people, Beowulf should have let his warriors fight the dragon in his place in
order to win the hoard. Even though Beowulf gains all the treasures of the dragon hoard, his people
suffer a greater loss from his death. Beowulf s death would lay out the welcome mat for eager
conquerors to come and attack his land. However, like Sigemund, Beowulf s glory will always remain
and grow with his death. On the other hand, the digression tells of another king, King Heremod, who
has the opposite characteristics of Beowulf. King Heremod lost his prowess and values that make a
good leader which would lead to his being conquered and killed by the Jutes. King Heremod was
every aspect that Beowulf was not and would not be when he became king; Beowulf retains his
courage and becomes an exceptional leader for his nation. The story of King Heremod could also be
used as a warning to Beowulf that he should always stay brave and never let his power decline.
Heremod was unsuccessful in fulfilling the responsibilities of a king to his country; therefore, as the
poem says in lines 903 through 905, he was a burden on his warriors, nobles, and people. He let his
own interest and grief overpower his responsibilities. Beowulf would prove to always do what he feels
fit to protect and benefit his people. Beowulf, unlike King Heremod, would not fall the normal evils of
men. Beowulf s only fault is he is too eager

Child Support Modification Case Study
Once the divorce decree is in hand, both parties in the dissolution tend to move on with their lives. As
was the case before their divorce, there will be new relationships, new jobs, new homes...all of which
can significantly affect the amount of income at a parent s disposal. Frequently, within a few years of
receiving a final divorce decree, clients will get back in touch to ask if there were situations that would
constitute a child support modification.

Firefighting In London Research Paper
England: In the UK, London suffered great fires in 798, 982, 989, 1212 and above all in 1666 (the
Great Fire of London). The Great Fire of London in 1666 set in motion changes which laid the
foundations for organized firefighting in the future. In the wake of the Great Fire, the City Council
established the first fire insurance company, The Fire Office , in 1667, which employed small teams of
Thames watermen as firefighters and provided them with uniforms and arm badges showing the
company to which they belonged. The Great Fire of 1666 started in a baker s shop on Pudding Lane,
consumed about two square miles (5 km²) of the city, leaving tens of thousands homeless. Prior to this
fire, London had no organized fire protection system. Afterwards, ... Show more content on

Manual pumps, rediscovered in Europe after 1500 (allegedly used in Augsburg in 1518 and in
Nuremberg in 1657), were only force pumps and had a very short range due to the lack of hoses.
German inventor Hans Hautsch improved the manual pump by creating the first suction and force
pumpand adding some flexible hoses to the pump. In 1672, Dutch artist, and inventor Jan Van der
Heyden s workshop developed the fire hose. Constructed of flexible leatherand coupled every 50 feet
(15 m) with brass fittings. The length remains the standard to this day in mainland Europe whilst in
the UK the standard length is either 23m or 25m. The fire engine was further developed by the Dutch
inventor, merchant and manufacturer, John Lofting (1659 1742) who had worked with Jan Van der
Heyden in Amsterdam. Lofting moved to London in or about 1688, became an English citizen and
patented (patent number 263/1690) the Sucking Worm Engine in 1690. There was a glowing
description of the firefighting ability of his device in The London Gazette of 17 March 1691, after the
issue of the patent. The British Museum has a print showing Lofting s fire engine at work in London,
the engine being pumped by a team of

Stand by Me
Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who
during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has
been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The
story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in
this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self
concept, affects the characters, and their interactions. Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this
story, can best be described as an introvert. He is living in the shadow of his recently deceased brother,
and is having a difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this would be when the group is walking along a railroad bridge and we find Vern
crawling, instead of walking, due to his fear of heights. Another example would be when the boys are
considering cutting through the woods to find the body, and he stays behind, trying to reason with the
group to follow the safe path along the railroad tracks, but in order to fit in, he reluctantly follows. His
presenting self is assured and agreeable. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is actually worried,
vulnerable, and gullible. Throughout this movie, we learn how relationships are formed and
maintained, and how our perceived self, and presenting self can be very different. The boys
continually use identity management to jockey for position in the group, however each one knows
where they actually belong. It is only when they encounter a difficult situation, that they show their
true emotions and feelings. They do stick up for each other, and show true concern and caring when
the need arises, however, in the presenting face, they play it much more cool, and even somewhat
unconcerned for each other s feelings. In the end, the relationship between the four dwindles, and only
Gordy and Chris remained friends. Gordy helped Chris to overcome his self fulfilling prophecy by
encouraging him to attend college, and become a lawyer. Chris, in return became a significant force in

Senegal, a country in West Africa with an estimated population of 13 million people experiences a 20% mortality rate in children affected by SAM 2. This report will outline the current state of SAM in Senegal, programs and policies presented in Senegal in efforts to reduce the prevalence of SAM, evident gaps in these programs with a description of a suggested policy not currently employed and its implications. Burden: In 2014, 2.25 million people in Senegal suffered from insecurity of food with 340,000 children under five suffering from acute malnutrition and 79,000 experiencing severe acute malnutrition 2. Senegal is divided into fourteen regions, further divided into forty five departments. Nine of these departments experienced critical levels of SAM in 2013 with an additional five departments experiencing threshold SAM levels in addition to diarrhea and respiratory illnesses. Thus, fourteen departments continue to require immediate attention to treating SAM 2. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roseanne As A Deviant In A TV Show The definition of Deviance, according to Google is the fact or state of departing from usual or accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior (Google, 2016). For someone to be deviant, they are going against what is considered normal or morally correct in their group. Hearing the word deviant may sound like someone committed a crime, but that is not the case at all. When someone is deviant, they are just doing what they want to do, which may go against what is normal to their social group, family, religion, and/or other sources. In this paper I will discuss how deviance is portrayed in a television show I watch called Roseanne. I will also discuss labeling and how individuals are labeled, as well as who is doing the labeling. The television show, Roseanne , was one of my favorites growing up. Should colleges be teaching students liberal arts or should they just let liberal arts classes slip away? This a controversy between students on every college campus. It is important to the students, because they want what is best for themselves during college. I believe that students need to be taught liberal arts to help better their learning abilities. In my own experience, I have learned that liberal arts classes may be frustrating, but in the long run they have really helped to develop a better grasp on general education. Mitochondria are thought to have originated as free living bacteria that parasited proto eukaryotic cells~1.5 billion years ago and have since remained in an endosymbiotic relationship inside eukaryotic cells (Margulis, 1981). The mitochondria preserve remnants of the original bacterial genome coding for key aspects of the mitochondrial machinery, but over the course of evolution, most mitochondrial genes have been transferred to the nucleus. With this approach in the past few years, more and more data have been obtained for reconstructing the world mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) phylogeny and for discerning the phylogenetic status of the (sub)continentally specific haplogroups (Qing Peng et al., 2006). A well reconstructed phylogeny helps to gain unique and valuable insights for elucidating human evolution and pioneer settlement patterns; for instance, complete mtDNA sequence data indicate that our ancestors adopted a single route to leave Africa and then migrated rapidly along the Asian coast (Qing Peng et al., 2006). Group specific genetic variation allows all human mtDNA genomes to be grouped into distinct clusters called haplogroups based on diagnostic nucleotide polymorphisms. Campbell and Brown (2015) have opined that in the present scenario of stiff climatic pressure as well as evolving political priorities, organizational changes within the public bodies is gradually increasing the priority. Therefore, it can be stated that organizational is one of the complex processes that have negative as well as positive outcomes and as such it is worth looking at the available evidence so that the process is conducted as efficiently as well as effectively as possible. In this particular task the main focus would be on some of the integral parts of organizational changes and to carry on this particular task, Yahoo has been selected. Therefore, through this research work, the researcher would try to outline as well as discuss the role of diagnosis as well as feedback in the overall process of organizational changes and the ways to achieve that efficiently (Carlson 2015). One major portion of economics is the fact that if we did not have this one word we most likely not be able to have a free market as well as prosperous nations all around the world. Yet Hernando DeSoto author of The Mystery of Capital conveys the idea that the markets in other countries around the world are different because of the system that each set country has. Existential crises produce anxiety within an individual until the crisis has been resolved. Three versions of existential crises have been identified: sophomore crisis, adult existential crisis, and later existential crisis. The sophomore crisis occurs when it is hard to identify the dimensions of the self which is usually in the late teens to early 20s. This can be resolved by helping the individual figure out future events. The adult existential crisis occurs in the late 20s. Proponents of the sophomore crisis carry over to the adult existential crisis with an intensity of identity questioning. crisis. The later existential crisis is the reflection over one s life. La boheme was written and composed by Giacomo Puccini. The play is based in a french play Scénes de la vie de boléme by Henri Murger published in 1851. The world premiere was in Turin, Italy in 1896. This was close to the end of the 19th century where the theatre was turning from romanticism more into the genre of social realism. In contrast, Rent was written in 1996 which was close to the end of 20th century. During this one century, many things were acceptable by the society that were not acceptable during the time of La boheme. The Depletion Of The Ozone Layer Over hundreds of thousands of years humans have adapted their way of life to the environment they live in resulting in us developing different physical attributes, shelters, clothing, foods, languages and beliefs. But there are elements in our world that all humans, no matter where or how they live depend on, water and air. Both are essential for life but air also protects all of us and it is therefore understandable that the response to the depletion of the ozone layer became international. This essay will look at what the ozone layer is, why it was depleting, how the international response to this situation developed and what this collaboration means for our future. The envelope of gases surrounding the earth is called the atmosphere and it serves three critical functions: it provides life giving oxygen, keeps the earth warm, and protects us from deadly ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Most of the atmosphere consists of nitrogen and oxygen (See Figure 1). But these gases do not keep us warm or protect the earth from UV rays. For these functions you have to turn to some of the trace gases found in the atmosphere, commonly referred to as greenhouse gases. They are: water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and nitrous oxide. These trace gases function like the transparent covering of a greenhouse, allowing sunlight to filter through to the earth s surface, then trapping in the heat. • 31. Gender Discrimination In Sports Gender discrimination in the sports industry has always been a controversial topic. Gender equality in sports has come a long way. Like when UNESCO recognized sports and physical activity as a human right in 1978. Discrimination is defined as unjust treatment of different categories of people or things. Discrimination towards people has been around for a long time and it s affecting the entire world and has taken large steps towards being demolished. These large steps have been taken to make the world a better place and a lot of these discriminations have gotten smaller over time, but many of these are still seen in everyday life, unfortunately. Discrimination against females has been a constant battle due to the world being extremely male dominant. Women have had to fight against discrimination for many things, such as freedom of speech, the right to vote, and equal rights to work. Women were expected to be stay at home parents, taking care of the cleaning and housekeeping, and raising the kids, and were not allowed to be on the workforce, do things they enjoy, or even get a little freedom. Female discrimination in sports is a common issue all around the world, women are seen as not as good as males, equality in sports is unequal, and the amount of pay and media coverage is different for each sport and gender. • 34. Tort Laws Should Be Legal Tort laws are laws that offer remedies to individuals harmed by the unreasonable actions of others. Tort claims usually involve state law and are based on the legal premise that individuals are liable for the consequences of their conduct if it results in injury to others (McCarthy Cambron McCabe, 1992). One of the major, most well known tort categories is negligence, which is usually a situation when someone accidentally does wrong, which in turns causes injury to another person. In a negligent tort claim the plaintiff must prove four elements to have a successful claim. The first element is duty, a plaintiff must prove that a duty of care was owed by the the defendant (Lau Johnson, 2011). The second element is that the defendant breached that duty. The third element is causation. The plaintiff must also prove an actual connection between the defendant s conduct and the resulting harm. A casual causation, in which case the defendants actions directly caused the injury, or a proximate causation is one in which the defendant s actions were the proximate cause of the plaintiff s injury. Deciding if there is proximate cause can be more difficult to determine, as it must be concluded that the injury was foreseeable. If the injury was not foreseeable than proximate cause does not exist. Lastly, the fourth element of a negligent tort claim is damages or recognizable injuries. The injury must be actual, real and not imaginary but can be physical, emotional, monetary or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Water Pollution And Its Effects On Aquatic Life Water Pollution and its Effects on Aquatic Life Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionary biology, states in his theory of evolution that only organisms better fit to survive in their environment will survive. Based on his theory and research, it can be concluded that challenges to the environment directly affect the organisms. Research shows that in particular water pollution; hospital wastewater and sewage wastewater, is shown to cause antibiotic resistant microorganisms, excess nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus as well as heavy metals that harm the aquatic life present in the body of water. Antibiotic resistant microorganisms refer to organisms that cannot be killed by antibiotics such as penicillin or ampicillin. The heavy metals referred to are, mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), thallium (Tl), and lead (Pb); these metals mainly impact fish. As mentioned above one of the key sources of water pollution is hospital wastewater. It has been reported that local wastewater treatment plants are unequipped to treat the wastewater completely (Nielsen) and therefore hazardous to the environment. Part of the hospital wastewater are antibiotics that come out in active form because it has not been completely metabolized. (Ahmad, M., et al.). This means that the antibiotics have not been completely broken down and can still kill bacteria present in the water body. The presence of antibiotics would not be a critical issue if it was simply killing off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These people also argue that aid work will fuel the population growth and demolish one of the only forms of population control. Melinda Gates explains that as people work to provide more education and contraceptives to women in third world countries, the birth rate will naturally decrease, especially as they worry less about having a child survive into adulthood (Rosen). Currently there is enough to sustain the population and its growth in the years to come; presently the issue is not the number of people, but rather, the distribution and effective use of resources. The World Economic Forum s Global Shaper Survey shows that most millennials agree that climate change is the most urgent issue and that they can do something to fix it (Jackson). Bill Gates has mentioned the possibility of a new charity dedicated to solving the climate change issue because he views it as the most imminent threat to the survival and advancement of humanity. An article on The Guardian even mentions that The foundation s annual letter for 2015 says their achievements could be undone by the advancing climate crisis. (Mathiesen). In the end, the relationship between the four dwindles, and only Gordy and Chris remained friends. Gordy helped Chris to overcome his self fulfilling prophecy by encouraging him to attend college, and become a lawyer. Chris, in return became a significant force in ...
