How Did Kris Kringle Became Santa Claus
While checking various sources and websites for an agency that specializing in children s books, I
found a listing for your company. The listing stated that you, and your company are active, and will
work with unpublished authors.
It s Christmas Eve and children all over the world are anticipating a visit from Santa. From The
First Present To The Present tells the story of how Kris Kringle became Santa Claus. Kris and his
wife first started giving homemade toys to the children of their church in their little mountain
village. Kris was walking in the forest looking for a tree to cut down. There he met two elves,
Isidone and Orrie, who invited him to visit their village at the north pole. Once there the council of

Networks And Standards Of Network
Networks and Standards
In this piece of work I will talk about different network types, topologies, architectures and specify
the standards and protocols often related to them. Furthermore I will discuss network hardware
and software required by a PC to join a network and access shared resources. Finally, I will look
into different network services provided by the networks and the Internet.
Network Types
Personal are network
PAN is a computer networkwhich is there to communicate with other computerised networks. This
will include things like telephones and personal assistants. PAN is something that can also be used
for communicating between the personal devices themselves or even connecting to a level higher
than that. It is also a wireless network technology which is carried over with such things like a
wireless USB or even Bluetooth. Local Area Network
A local area network is something that can be connected to a computer and also devices in such
a limited area, some examples of this would be places like at home and school. Users that is able
to have access to the network can file share only as it protected by a password. The LAN is
important for sharing resources that include files, printers and even games. The most common
LAN is in my classroom network and my home network. LANs could be wired, wireless and a
mixture of the two. The most common protocols related to wired LANs is the Ethernet (802.3) and
wireless networks are usually linked to Wi Fi (802.11) standard.

Libor, the London Interbank Lending Rate, is considered to be one of the most important rates in
finance because trillions of financial contracts utilize this rate. Libor is used globally as a
benchmark interest rate 2 in which it is used to set up a range of financial deals. It is also used as
measure for financial institutions to gauge their trust level in the financial system and to check
each institutions financial health. This rate is determined by a group of leading banks that submit
the rates of ten different currencies and fifteen lengths of loans, which range from overnight to
twelve months2. The most important part is the three month dollar Libor 2, which is the rate that
other banks would borrow from each other for three months. Traders managed to manipulate this
rate because the rates submitted are estimates; it would be relatively easy to submit false figures2.
Traders in other banks devised a plan with each other by submitting rates that were higher or lower
than the actual estimate in order to control the interest rate.
Libor is an interest rate that is determined by the rates at which banks lend funds to each other on
the London interbank market. Every day the banks submit their borrowing costs to the Thomson
Reuters data collection service in which an agent calculates out Libor2. The agent discards the
highest and lowest quarter of submissions and then

Relationships in Cathedral and the Story of an Hour
Relationships in Cathedral and The Story of an Hour Relationships are easy to make, but not
necessarily easy to maintain. There are many events in a person s individual life that has an impact
on the way they treat or interact with another person. In Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour and
Raymond Carver s Cathedral there are significant similarities and differences between the three
couples. Given the time period that these stories were written there are many more similarities than
differences. One of the most prominent similarities between the couples in Cathedral and The Story
of an Hour is the emotional distance between the spouses. What creates this emotional distance is
the lack of communication; it is the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brently is away for the majority of the story, which shows the physical distance. Although the
story only takes place over the period of an hour, Brently may have a job that requires him to be
away a lot. When he comes home, they author describes him as travel stained which would not
be the ideal way to describe someone if they were only supposed to be away for the day. Travel
stained For the wife and her ex husband the physical distance is even greater. Her ex husband
was a military man, and they were forced to move all over. The narrator says she sent tapes to
the blind man from Moody AFB, McGuire, McConnell, and finally Travis, near Sacramento
(Carver, 2), and if any couple is going to be moving around like that and one of them is not
comfortable with the circumstance, it surely will not end well. The added stress of whether her
husband would make it home from work would not have helped either. Again, more subtle than
the rest, the narrator and his wife have a physical distance between them at times as well. The
husband states that Every night I smoked dope and stayed up as long as I could before I fell
asleep and then goes on to say that his wife and him barely ever go to bed at the same time at
night (Carver, 8). Although this is not the greatest distance possible, it is significant none the less.
Most couples who have similar work schedules will go to bed around the

How to Make- Cupcakes
Cakes are often connected with fun, happiness, excitement and celebration. Cakes have been a
part of many traditions all over the world synchronizing festivities. A variety of styles and
themes are used in association to cakes, depending on the particular celebration, there are many
different occasions such as birthdays, Mother s day, Father s day, 4Th of July festivities, baby
showers and weddings. Cakes are decorated with flowers, flags and cartoon characters to place
cakes. An assortment of flavors such as vanilla the most easiest to please, carrots cakes, fruit
lemon cakes, marble cakes, chocolate cakes; there are whimsical cakes, small cakes, large cakes,
individual cakes called cakepops, and my favorite, Gourmet cupcakes. Cupcakes have been more
frequently used these days. They are easily consumed with less of a mess to clean later. Cupcakes
are affordable, east to make and deemed efficient in terms of price to quantity of people attending
the celebration. They are typically decorated or frosted with sugar icing, fondant, and butter cream.
With busy lifestyle both me and my children, the box mix is easiest and quickest.
The first and most important step is to select the flavor of cake in consideration of the individual
you are baking for. Is it a family? A friend? Co worker? Do they have allergies to any specific
flavoring? Once you decide, you must select a cake box mix and acquire a tub of premade frosting

The World Wildlife Fund ( Wwf ) Essay
Media Audit The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has launched several campaigns in the past few
years, all focused on several endangered species and natural habitats to try and save the
extinction of the planet s biodiversity. Although WWF has had success in their campaigns and
received a plethora of positive feedback, the non profit organization has also received negative
comments in the media. Strengths Goals. WWF s work has evolved from saving species and
lands to addressing the larger global threats and forces that impact them. Recognizing that the
problems facing the planet are increasingly more urgent and complex, they have refined the way
in which they work around a new, ambitious strategy. Their new strategy puts people at the center
and organizes their goals around six key areas: marine, forests, wildlife, freshwater, climate, and
food. By linking those six areas in an integrated approach, they receive better leverage for their
unique assets and direct all the fund s resources to protecting vulnerable places, species, and
communities worldwide. In the WWF s Manifesto campaign, the organization states that even the
most ordinary people have an impact. From the government to large corporations, WWF
demonstrates that with the start of one person any goal can be achieved. An article from Spiegel,
an English based magazine, said: Even with the littlest impact from someone is still an impact, and
WWF finally recognizes that it only takes one person. Goals start with one

Discrimination Of Genes In The Film Gattaca
Both in the movie Gattaca and in the early 20th century, children were genetically engineered to be
the optimal recombination of parent s genes. In the movie, Vincent was given 99% probability of
developing congenital heart defect and life expectancy of 30.2. In the eugenic movement in the
early 20th century, congenital defect was classified as unfit. Although he was not executed, he
faced lots of discrimination from the perfect society. In 1911, prisoners and children residing in
poor houses were sterilized involuntarily. Moreover, Preliminary Report by the Committee of the
Eugenic Section of the American Breeder s Association recommended Euthanasia to keep up the
standard of the race. In contrast, in the movie Gattaca, Vincent was not discriminated because of his
social status, color, or race. However, in the eugenicsmovement in the US in the early 20th century
there was discrimination because of social status, color, and race. For example, The Racial
Integrity Act of Virginia, made a marriage between a white and non white a felony and then 1927,
Virginia state was allowed sterilization of people considered genetically unfit.
Well, the genetic engineeringhas been legislated to a certain extent. At the age when ultrasound
was used to detect health of a fetus, India legislated that doctors cannot reveal gender of the baby
to the parent due to a highly patriarchal society where a male child is highly revered and a female
is shame of the family. In the United

Viking Battle Tactics
Viking battle tactics and weaponry continues to impact our world today. From the unique technique
that the Viking performs in battle to the powerful weapons used. The Vikings were the first and
probably the last to introduce their unique battle tactic. Which is that they had no professional
standing army and did not fight regular formations (Viking Weapons and Warfare). The formation
was to charge towards their enemies all at once, catching their enemies off guard and giving the
Vikings the advantage of the upper hand. They were able to win battles with the formation due to
the loyalty bond between the Viking men and women with their lords (Viking Weapons and
Warfare). Another unique battle tactic the Vikings introduced was the spread and lay their weapons
in the surrounding area where the battle takes place beforehand, just in case the formation were to
backfire (VIKINGS MILITARYTACTICS AND FORTIFICATIONS).
This tactic was also an advantage if the enemies were to attack first, they would get injured first
before the Vikings can attack. The development of weapons that... Show more content on

and believed it as a healthy way of life. A Viking who participate in raiding would instantly gain a
higher social status than who stayed home (The Vikings Raids). The Vikings believed raiding
was very different from theft and saw it as an honourable challenge to fight. Typical values they
raided consists of weapons, tools, clothing, jewelry, precious metals, and people who could be sold
as slaves. By raiding, they were able to obtain weapons by other neighbouring Vikings and/or

Running a Dairy Industry
A) Primary Production To achieve a well run dairy that is efficient and profitable there are many
factors and resources that contribute. Planning and operation management are tools in which
farmers use to accomplish the objectives (Brand, Noordhuizen and Schukken, 1996, p.7). There is
a lot more involved in managing a dairy farm other than the milking process, farmers have many
roles to carry out to ensure a successful operation for example: financial management, land
management, maintenance, health care, crop production, reproduction and herd replacement.
Financial management and recording (including bookkeeping), help farmers to keep track of cash
flow, payable and receivable. Aspects include borrowing and investing money, buying feed,
fertiliser and temporary water, income from milk sales and payment for external services such as
consultants and agronomists (On the Farm Dairy Australia, 2011). Land management includes
pasture growth, sprinkler irrigation systems, fixing fences and fertilising paddocks. Farmers are
more aware these days about environmental impacts caused by agricultural practices and
implement ways to prevent degradation such as planting trees and shrubs to increase river bank
stability to reduce soil erosion and fencing off river banks so the soil and plants will not be spoilt
by a herd trampling on them. Settling ponds for water runoff from dairies are set up to prevent the
contaminated water entering the rivers, dams and streams (On the Farm

Digital Immigrants And Digital Technology
Technology is advancing and becoming complex in our society, as it propels our daily lives. In
learning environments such as schools, most students are able to acknowledge the learning
differences between themselves and their teachers. These differences occur because a student is
more likely to be a digital native, whereas the teacher is considered to group with digital
immigrants. Digital immigrants are those who are able to understand the relevance of technology,
but choose to utilize it differently. However, digital natives are those who are born in a generation
in which technology is at easy access. Since a digital native s mind is introduced to technology in
an earlier stage in life, it functions differently than a digital immigrant... Show more content on

Digital immigrants, those who are born in the era of writing letters and finding research from
literal texts find it difficult to adapt to technology (Small, 2001, p. 4) On the other hand; the digital
natives born with technology have incorporated it in their daily routines. Vicky Rideout s study of
the amount of time kids this generation spend on technology shows that children and teenagers
ages 8 to 18 are accustomed to technology that that they on average spend twice as much time with
screens each year (Richtel, 2014, p. 4). The increased amount of time using technology is able to
impact the brains learning manner because it strengthens and tests their mind s ability to perform
activities. New York Times mentions the two surveys done by the Pew Internet Project, and
Common Sense Media in San Francisco. In the Common Sense report, for instance, some teachers
said that even though the attention span of digital natives may not be as great as digital immigrants
but the constant use of technology at home and in class test their brain development and allow
them to improve in in subjects like math and science (Richtel, 2014, p. 21). Including technology in
digital natives everyday routine helps test the brain skills of students. This is also proven true as
the University of Vanderbilt introduces more technology into the classroom, faculty are finding it
raises the quality of class discussion and involves students focus and are more skilled in their

In the Paramount decision of 1948 this was the outcome of the United States vs. Paramount
Pictures. This was a monumental case in the right of production companies to own theatres and
holding exclusive rights on which theatres could show there movies.it would also change the way
Hollywood movies were made, distributed, and exhibited in theatres and other places. The court
held that this distributing technique was in violation of the antitrust law that was put in place
years before. This case is used in vertical integration cases and is later known as the first nail in
the coffin of the old Hollywood studio system. The legal issues with this first began in the silent era

Inherit The Wind Bertram Cates Comparison
Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, this play titled Inherit the Wind tells the story
of a meaningful case. This case debates against evolutionism and leads the reader through a set
of events where most people debate the great concept of a person s right to think on their own,
otherwise known as freewill. Bertram Cates, a man of 24 years is accused of deliberately
breaking the law. He is frightened and oblivious to what he has done. The story centers around
him along with the characters who will also impact the plot. As I ve read the book I have
brought my attention that both my character and that of Bert Cates is similar with some
differing aspects. As previously stated, Bertram Cates is frightened, quiet, and perhaps oblivious
to what he has done. He s said to be innocent due to the fact that his character isn t rude or
judgmental. Unlike the rest of the townspeople who seem to be patronized, Cates is affected by
the negligent behavior of the townspeople. Cates is a pale and thin man that teaches a sophomore
science class. Furthermore, Bert Cates is a proud man who is modest, therefore this explains his
character to other people as the story progresses. Never having been in any sort of trouble, Cates is

Essay about The Grade Inflation Epidemic
The Grade Inflation Epidemic
It s June, and another graduating class is hoping, among other things, to achieve high grades. Of
course, high is a subjective target. Originally a C meant average; today however, the expectations
and pressures to give and receive A s and B s takes its tollon teachers and students alike. This
nullifies the value of the traditional grading scale and creates a host of entirely new problems. The
widespread occurrence of grade inflation seriously affects the credibility of secondary and post
secondary education in America.
The definition of an acceptable grade has changed significantly over the years. Grade inflation

Gary Coe, principal and athletic director of Mary Walker High School in Springdale, agrees. He
says that he has definitely seen a rise in the average grades. Some students are maintaining much
higher grades with the same work that would have earned much less even five years ago. He
further notes many recent valedictorians of his small school have received well below the
average on their SAT scores. Coe attributes his top student s higher grades and low test scores to
qualities possessed in a student such as: willingness to work and good attitude which aren t always
apparent at test time. He believes that even some of the best students take classes now just to get a
grade and not to maximize their learning. Interestingly, Coe doesn t feel parents put any particular
pressure on the teachers to bestow high grades on their children.
Teachers, on the other hand, have a startlingly different perspective. Kevin Jacka, the high school
s school to work coordinator, head football coach, and PE instructor for the past ten years, says
he sees now that the C grade is not acceptable to most people, and it no longer represents the
average student. The school s policy to make D a failing grade has limited the range of marks to
three. He states that he feels the pressure of parents and their children to give A s and B s , even
when students do F work. Incentives such as weekly sports grade checks, have

Building and Using Good Teams in the Workplace Essay
At the MIT Human Dynamics Laboratory a research study was conducted in an attempt to find out
what factors make an effective team. Researcher Alex Sandy Pentland (2012) first sought out
companies with multiple teams that were comparable, but had fluctuating performance. He then
outfitted these teams with socio metric badges. These badges, which are also known as
sociometers, automatically measure face to face interaction, body motion, and vocal features
among other things. Through multiple studies and the analysis of this data Pentland suggests that
communication is the single most important factor of an effective team.
The study goes on to detail some of the observable communicative characteristics of these
successful teams. Active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inevitably these efforts will cost an organization money and time. The monetary cost range from
teambuilding exercises to bringing in a speaker. Time costs could include anything from planning
the engagement to the potential time employees may be away from working. Company leaders
want to know what will be the return on investment of these exercises.
Currently as much as 70% of workers in the United States are not engaged in their jobs,
(EHStoday.com). This staggering statistic indicates that without teambuilding activities, which help
employees to buy into the company s focus and directives as well as work more productively with
one another, workers are typically performing less effectively than they are truly capable of.
Teambuilding activities, as evidenced from the info graphic below, are one tool that employers can
use in order to increase collaboration, help to build trust within the team, and reduce conflict in the
work place. All of these factors will help to improve employee productivity within any given
workplace.
Using Teams
Building a team and using a team are uniquely different from one another. Team buildingfocuses on
the formation of the team, while team use concentrates on the function of the team. Perhaps the
most difficult aspect of using a team is first developing a culture of teamwork within the team. From
childhood to adults, Americans have been pushed to be the best, to compete against one another for

Cultural Dimensions, Business Practices And Business...
Abstract
This paper serves a purpose of examining the Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions and using such
measurement to compare the cultural values of Canada and the United States. It will look deeper
into the cultural dimensions, business practices and business etiquette. This paper will also provide
information of both countries and where they stand on the dimensions and the reason why.
Hofstede decided that when two people interact with each other within an organization, culture
characterizes their behavior and attitude towards others. Psychology Hofstede had published his
cultural dimension s model at the end of the 1970s. In more than fifty countries Hofstede studied
the people that worked for IBM. The dimensions collectively portray the impact of the culture in
the society on the values of the members of the society. The description of the relationship between
the values and the behavior based on the factor of analysis.

Additionally, the affect of low social status is to increase the risk of alcoholabuse for all people. Вќ
(Steen 210) There are undoubtedly numerous factors that may influence a person to become an
alcoholic, and it must be kept in mind that under the right circumstances everyone is prone to
addiction.
Although environmental factors are a key issue for alcoholism, genetics are also a factor of the
disease. Researchers often agree that the link between certain chromosomes and alcoholism are
present in the brain. Researchers describe the areas on the chromosomes as hot spots Вќ because
they probably contain hundreds of different genes that contribute to an increased risk for
alcoholism. Вќ (Marcotty 25) In addition to such hot spots, Вќ R. Grant Steen, author of DNA and
Destiny: Nature and Nurture in Human Behavior, states that there is a strong correlation between
the A1 allele (a dopamine receptor) and alcoholism in human beings. The allele was more
commonly found in the brain tissue of alcoholics than in non alcoholics. Having discovered that
presence of the allele, scientists drew the conclusion that the A1 allele was one of the best
indicators that certain genetic aspects can influence the tendency to become alcoholic. In some

Foreign Tax Credit For Individuals
Foreign Tax Credit for Individuals: The Foreign Tax Credit is designed to be very simple in
nature, as it only requires basic math skills to compute the tax liability with the credit. As
mentioned above, income that is earned in a foreign location may be taxed by the respective
government of that location. Therefore, because the United States utilizes a global tax system,
the individual or entity may be taxed by the foreign government and definitely taxed by the
United States government. Therefore in order to reduce the double taxation liability, the
government allows U.S. taxpaying entities to reduce U.S. income tax dollar for dollar (credited)
by the amount that has been paid in income tax by a U.S. person to a foreign government
(Adams). Furthermore, there are two limitations on this credit that a U.S. taxpaying entity must
be aware of. The first limitation states that only income tax is only susceptible to the credit. To
further explain, this means taxes like Value Added Tax, property taxes, taxes on capital or assets,
and any other tax which the U.S. does not consider a tax on income are excluded from the foreign
tax credit (Adams). (However, a valuable tax planning strategy will note that these taxes may be
deductible on an individual s Schedule A for Itemized Deductions. In addition, if an individual
owns a business or rents out a building abroad, he/she can deduct these expenses on his/her
Schedule C or Schedule E). The second limitation states that an

other. A common characteristic among all the theories is that there effectiveness depends highly on
the depth of knowledge of the approach, skill in the application of the strategies for change, and
creativity of the therapist. With this in mind, the following text will be a separate application of

(Watzlawick, 1974) It is assumed that if this complaint is clearly defined and resolved, that it
will have effects on other problem areas within the clients life, those that may not be readily
brought to the attention of the therapist. With regard to the resolution of the problem, MRI Brief
therapy outlines three ways in which the problem behavior or issue is maintained. It is
hypothesized that if the individual would give up their solutions to the problem, it will resolve
itself. The following have been outlined as problem maintaining behaviors: attempting to solve
a problem that is non existent, denying the existence of the problem, or solving a problem on
the wrong level (first order change vs. second order change) (Watzlawick, 1974). First order
change would be a change in how the problem game is played, for example, if individuals were
playing with checkers pieces, but decided to use chess pieces instead while still using the rules
of checkers. The pieces may have changed, but the overall rules remain the same. If these same
individuals were to learn how to play chess, this would constitute a second order change as the
rules of the game have now changed. Consequently a second order change can be described as a
change of change.
There are several techniques available to the MRI Brief therapist in reaching this change of change.
These include prescribing the symptom, prescribing restraint, instructing the

The Second World War
Second World War
World War II was one of the greatest struggles humanity has ever seen. This Second World War
caused many lives to be lost, damaged personal properties and was expensive, for a great deal of
money was required to maintain a country s military strength. The numbers for those that have
passed, been wounded or gone missing during the war could never be calculated precisely; though
it has been estimated that more than 55 million lives perished. Many historians have traced the
causes of World War II to the problems left unsolved by the First World War (1914 1918). World
War I and the treaties that ended it also created new political and economic problems. Forceful

Many nationalists viewed foreigners and members of minority groups as inferior. Such beliefs
helped nations justify their conquest of other lands and the poor treatment of minorities within their
borders. Nationalism was a chief cause of World War I, and it grew even stronger after that war.
Nationalism went hand in hand with feelings of national displeasure. For instance, many Germans
felt humiliated by their country s defeat in World War I and its harsh treatment under the Treaty of
Versailles. During the 1930 s, they enthusiastically supported an aggressive nationalistic
organization called The Nazi Party. The Nazi Party declared that Germany had a right to become
strong again. Besides Germany nationalism also gained strength in Italy and Japan.
The Peace of Paris established an international organization called The League of Nations to
maintain peace. Each country backed its own interests at the expense of other countries which
prevented The League from working effectively. Therefore only weak countries agreed to submit
their disagreements to The League of Nations for settlement. While strong nations reserved the right
to settle their disputes by threats or force.
The political unrest and poor economic conditions that developed after World War I enabled
dictatorships to arise in several countries. Especially in those countries that lacked a tradition of
democratic government. During the 1920 s and

Students will interact with different people from different background and know the way other
of how people s life is while they are studying in foreign universities. On the contrary, they do not
get the chance to adapt to a new culture if they are studying in local universities.
In addition, students who are studying in foreign universities might have communication barrier
while students who are studying in local universities will not come to this problem since they are
still using their own mother tongue language to communicate.
пЃ¶Educational and social facilities are different in local universities and foreign universities.
Educational and social facilities are more variety in foreign universities than local ones.
For example, laboratories, computer laboratories, libraries, studios and theatres can be found in
almost every educational institution.
пЃ¶Climate in foreign countries is different from the climate in local universities, which is in the

Extrinsic Skin Aging
There are many reasons the skin gradually ages, including the natural aging process where skin
becomes thin and more susceptible to gravity and genetics. This is called intrinsic aging and is
unavoidable. However, there are extrinsic reasons why the skin ages and the ultraviolet (UV) rays
from the sun account for 80 percent of extrinsic skin ageing according to studies reported in the
Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigatory Dermatology medical journal.
It is well documented that UV exposure is a threat to healthy skin. According to the World Health
Organization, it is a known carcinogenic to humans. This means it has been scientifically proven
that skin cancer may develop after the skin has been exposed to the sun.
Ultraviolet radiation is found in sunlight. It is classified into UVA and UVB. Both of these
contribute to premature aging in the skin and can be avoided by the use of protective clothing, hats
and sunscreen. The first sign that the skin has been affected is a sunburned or even tanned skin.
However, there is also damage that cannot be seen. The DNA in the skin cells is also damaged, so
the cells no longer have their protective function. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If your skin is regularly exposed to sunlight, and you do not use necessary protection, your skin
will lose the ability to repair itself. The damage starts in children and accumulates over time. The
older you get, the more susceptible to sun damage your skin is. Not only is the DNA affected, but
the sun also breaks down collagen, which is an important connective tissue in the skin, and impairs
the skin from producing new collagen. Without the connective tissue, the skin becomes weak and
inflexible, so gravity has a greater impact and the skin ages prematurely very

Celebrities Should Be Role Models
No matter what celebrities are looked up upon by somebody, making them a role model.
Celebrities should be considered role models. Celebrities can come in any shape or form or can
be famous for multiple reasons. The reasons behind celebrities being considered role models are
as following, they have a huge following of supporters, they can help with causes, and they are
very inspirational. Overall, celebrities should be role models. Out of the many reasons backing
up celebrities being role models one of the reasons would be that they have a huge following of
people that either support them or know of them. With this comes a lot of power that they can
use for good. Celebrities could use this following to help kids who look up to them. If the
superstar stayed in school and did not do drugs then the kids and teens that look up to them will
do the same thing. They would think that they do not have to ditch school and do drugs to be
cool. Celebrities could also use their spotlight to show people different experiences. For example,
if a moviestar post on their social media platform that they are going to go take a hike up to the
hollywood sign, then the followers might want to do the same thing that maybe they would have
never done before. Which, by doing so may show the person that they love hiking or being outside,
giving them a new healthy hobby. Celebrities show their followers different things all the time that
they may not have known before making them a role model.

How Patanjali Is Considered A Divine Messenger
Upanishadic wisdom converged on a shared belief in a universal law that guided the abiding
presence of religious and metaphysical forces in the lives of individuals and of the collective
destiny of all things in the universe. The Upanishadic teachings help us to understand how yoga
evolved.
Patanjali is historically understood to have been a divine messenger, born some time between
500 BC and 200 BC. The dates are uncertain to this day as the lives of the great sages and mystics
were not measured according to modern calendars, but rather, were imbued by the living oral
traditions that defined Upanishadic wisdom and knowledge. Some traditions held that Pantanjali
was not born of mother and father but was rather the incarnation of the god Adiesea. Adisesa is a
great king cobra whose body is the seal of the god Vishnu. The legend continues that the god Shiva,
the king of dance, invited Vishnu and other deities to see his famous dance, Tandava Nritya. As
Shiva danced, Vishnu immersed his own consciousness in the moment. His physical being
undulated in rhythm with the graceful movements of Shiva. During the performance of the dance,
Vishnu was seated on Adisesa, the great cobra. The cobra became short of breath under Vishnu s
weight, which seemed to increase with his enrapturement in the dance. The great cobra began to
gasp for air. At the end of the dance, Adesisa immediately felt release from the heavy pressure of
Vishnu s body. Adesisa asked Vishnu, How could it be

Beta measures the volatility, or systematic risk, of a security or a portfolio in comparison to the
market as a whole. A beta of 1 indicates that the security s price will move with the market. A
beta less than 1, means that the security s price will be less volatile than the market. A beta
greater than 1 indicates that the security s price will be more volatile than the market. R2 is a
statistical measure that represents the percentage of a fund or security s movements that can be
explained by movements in a benchmark index. In simple terms it is a goodness of fit line, and
the values range from 0 to 1. A R2 of 1 means that all movements of a security are completely
explained by movements in the index. A high R2 (between .85 and 1) indicates the fund s
performance patterns have been in line with the index. A fund with a low R2 (.70 or less) doesn t

Why I Should Be Safe From The Giant Mice
At last the walking was over. The Sfrums and I stopped like a backwards wave, where they start
with there hands up then put there hands down when it comes to them. A day and a half of
walking from behind the wall to the rug was finally over. And at that stop, I saw a whole new
beginning.
Connor, welcome to your new home! My mom said cheerfully, You should be safe from the giant
mice
I had a bad feeling about this dark new town of ours, this new town we named Rug had darkness to
it. Maybe this change wouldn t be good after all. Or, it could be a great place to live.
The town was very peaceful with little pre built houses and a town hall. Every building was made

A criminal started stealing family s possessions from their new homes and keeping it for him or

couldn t agree. Some were for a police force and others said our town was too small. Others said to
have only a few guys and be like a town watch.
It was a boring few hours while I was sitting at the steps with the other children in the town. We all
get along well but haven t talked to them since the move. Things have been tiring and this is only
our first day here. Finally the arguing was over and the new wooden doors creaked open with
parents and adults spilling out. Some frustrated, others satisfied.
Lets go Connor My dad said in a bitter tone. We re out of here.
We left the town hall and went back to our little house. Each adult finding their child and walking
back to their little home, which was on the same street as everyone else s shack. My Parents and I
were both walking in the same place, but Mom and Dad were keeping their distance.
Why are you to angry? I asked. Really confused about what was going on between the two as we
walked along the walkway to the houses. Is it about what happened in the town hall?
My dad looked at my mom first then to me. Suddenly, he started to shout, I could care less about
what everyone else thought in there. What I m angry about is how you mother didn t take my side!

Now we will focus on intermolecular forces. The Nature of Intermolecular Forces: The
Intermolecular Forces (forces between molecules) are weaker than Intramolecular Forces (The
Chemical Bonds within an Individual Molecule). This distinction is the reason we define the
molecule in the first place. The properties of matter result from the properties of the individual
molecule (resulting from chemical bonding) and how the molecules act collectively (resulting
from intermolecular forces). Intermolecular Forces are longest ranged (act strongly over a large
distance) when they are electrostatic. Interaction of Charge Monopoles (simple charges) is the
longest ranged electrostatic force. Charge Charge forces (found in ionic crystals) For like
charges (+,+) or ( , ), this force is always repulsive. For unlike charges (+, ), this force is always
attractive. Charge Dipole Forces: An uncharged molecule can still have an electric dipole
moment. Electric Dipoles arise from opposite but equal charges separated by a distance.
Molecules that possess a dipole moment are called Polar molecules (remember the polar
covalent bond?). Water is polar and has a dipole moment of 1.85 Debye. The Debye is a unit of
dipole moment and has a value of 3.336 x 10 30 Coulomb meter. When salt is dissolved in water,
the ions of the salt dissociate from each other and associate with the dipole of the water molecules.

Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current...
Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since
the change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable
sub tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion
(Rollinson, 2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized
jobs concerned with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing
circumstances (ibid: 463). So, scientific managementworks better with small companies which do
not usually need to react to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect
attributed to the Fordism model (which adopted Taylorism s... Show more content on

CHRMВґs responsibilities involve, among others, job design, staff selection, training and
motivation and job performance criteria, all of which were Taylor s contributions (Bell and Martin,
2012: 107).
Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right
people to a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example
could be human resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced
workers with great potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very
valuable workers for a low cost (BabГo et al, 2007: 50).
3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together
(Rollinson, 2005: 9).
This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the
developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization
achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing
their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4),
and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11).

America, Lows for Many, Highs for Some
Reconstruction in America during the post civil war era was a both a test and boundary pushing
experience that challenged racial laws and the livelihood of many African Americans. During this
time period it was both a struggle and battle for everyone involved but none were hit harder than
that of the black community. A great deal African Americans had to adapt to the constant fear of
lynching and discrimination that was a threat on a daily basis. Especially in America during the
late 1800 s through the 1960 s which was very nadir time for many African Americans; do to loss
of multiple civil rights, discrimination, and segregation. Fear and discrimination were an everyday
feeling that numerous African Americans had endure when it came to living during this time
period of racial tension and opposition from white racial groups. To illustrate this point Elias Hill,
who on one fateful night on May 5th, 1871 experienced first hand the ruthlessness of the Ku Klux
Klan. On this night the Ku Klux Klan kicked in the front door of Hills home and dragged him
outside along with another black boy, where they were questioned about the burning down of
white owned homes. Mr. Hill replied with I told them it was not me; I could not burn houses .
Mr. Hill and the black boy were beaten for a crime he did not commit; all so the Ku Klux Klan
could gather answers to a meeting held between Mr. Hill and the Urban League. As a result there
was fear on both sides; Mr. Hill feared that the Ku Klux

Luke 15:8 (NIV) Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn t she light a lamp,

Of silver. In Psalms 68:30 signifies as fragments, and not properly money.
Psalms 68:30 (KJV) Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves
of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight

Olive oil was in abundance and therefore the oil was not costly.
We have the luxury of electricity today. Unfortunately, she did not have any electricity.
Most homes at that time would contain several oil lamps and the inside of the home was about as
dim as a 40 watt light bulb.
Still she did not take a lax attitude towards her lost possession. She knew if she was going to find
this coin.
1. You have to stay focused. She did not allow the lighting in the house to stop her. She was not
focused on how dim the house may have been. Her mindset was to find the coin.
2. Use what you got. There is a time when you will not have all the tools you feel you need. It
should not cause you to give in. This woman did not have proper lighting, but she stayed focused
and worked diligently.
If you are going to find your way out, maybe, you will have to sweep your house clean.
The woman swept the house. She uses her broom to reach into corners and under tables, areas
where she could not see. Something you must go beyond the normal.
3. Search carefully until you find it. She did not take a lax attitude towards her lost possession.

Physiology Of Fluid Balance And The Functions Of The Main...
Unit 13: Physiology of Fluid Balance
In this assignment I will be describing the microstructure of a typical animal cell and the functions
of the main cell components. Describing and explaining the factors the ways in which materials
move in and out of cells. I will also be analysing the role of the phospholipid bilayer in terms of
movement of materials in and out of cells.
Lysosomes Lysosomes act as the digestive system of the cell. They are found in all parts of the cell.
There are very powerful enzymes within lysosomes.
Cytoplasm Cytoplasm is the gel like substance within the cell and outside the nucleus. Chemical
reactions are carried out in the cytoplasm.
Nucleus The nucleus is the largest organelle in the cell. It acts as the control system for almost all
the activities of the cell. It stores the cell s hereditary material, or DNA
Mitochondria Spherical bodies in the cytoplasm where energy is produced. The cell uses this
energy to perform the specific work necessary for cell survival and function.
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) Endoplasmic reticulum is a branching network that fills the cell
interior. There two types of ER: Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) Synthesis of lipid, glycogen
and steroids (e.g. cholesterol and testosterone).
Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) They are called because of the presence of ribosomes on
them. They provide a site for protein synthesis and helps transport protein.

The Last Report On Miracles At The Little No Horse
Family, peer influence, nature versus nurture, religion, and formal schooling all have an impact on
making individuals unique. With so many factors shaping one s identity, it is difficult to determine
which play the most pivotal role in one coming into their own. Most interestingly, identity is a
controlling factor in motivating one s behavior and actions. A common thread in shaping identity
across all cultures is the role of spiritual tradition. Through the characters in The Last Report on
Miracles at the Little No Horse, Louise Erdrich confronts individual and communal responses to
that reality. Since tradition is symbolic, not material, one can not physically hold on to their
tradition. In other words, an individual makes the conscious decision to allow or disallow tradition
to shape their own identity. Pauline Puyat is the product of cultural conflict, which shapes her
twisted, violent nature as a character, and through her Erdrich explores the winning of the west
from a non western perspective.
While some literary figures choose to continue along the lines of their cultural traditions, others find
flaws in traditional practices and decide to rebel against tradition. Marie Kashpaw. Defying tradition
is an interesting theme in literature, as well. Not all traditions should be continued, such as the
succession of abuse in the PUyat amily. Father Jude knows nothing about Ojibwe culture, so he
misses the undertow of clan meaning when Father Damien explains that Sister

Roman Roads Research Paper
At the peak of the Roman Empire, there were over 250,000 miles of roads that connected nearby
cities to Rome. Over 50,000 miles were paved roads that allowed quicker and safer travel for the
Roman army, officials, messengers, and trading of goods. The road system was much like modern
day roads including mile markers, inns, restaurants, and protection. With a simple yet advanced
design, Roman roads paved the way for Roman conquest and a superior authority throughout the
Roman Empire. These roads allowed for faster and easier transportation, encouraging people to
journey near and far. Although the Romans persecuted early Christians, Roman roads played a vital
role in the spread of Christianity which would eventually spread throughout the Roman... Show

Along the Roman roads were state operated lodgings and way stations. Stations were established
(stationes), some of them only to change horses (mutationes), others for overnight stops
(mansiones). Augustus was the one that ordered the entire road network inventory, charging M.
Agrippa with that responsibility (Zaharia, Aurel). Located every ten miles was horse changing
stations, where government travelers could exchange out their tired horse or donkey. These were
particularly important for tax collectors and message delivery, as they were required to travel great
distances at rapid speed. Stopping frequently at these changing stations could allow travelers to go
three times further than maintain the same horse. Positioned approximately every twenty miles
were hotels that offered all the necessities for an overnight stop.
Roman roads were also well protected and patrolled by smaller branches of the Roman army.
Most often the soldiers that were assigned to patrol the roads were lower ranking soldiers known
as stationarii. Stationarii soldiers were usually positioned at a post for an average term of two
years. Along with handling local protection and intervention these soldiers were required to
oversee the nearby roads. Watchtowers and post could be found in high traffic as well as isolated
areas to offer assistance to weak travelers, transmit messages, and look out for runaway

Examples Of Stereotypes In A Big Happy Family
Motif of Stereotypes Many movie writers incorporate stereotypes into their film. Stereotypes in
movies can be good mechanisms to help the audience better understand the characters. For example,
common stereotypes of cowboys include grittiness and determination, which helps to develop them
for the viewer s entertainment. However, stereotypes can also present characters in a negative
light. In Madea s Big Happy Family, Tyler Perry uses the motif of African American
stereotypes,
which includes rampant drug abuse, broken families, and inappropriate, disorderly behaviors. At its
roots, his movie contains nothing more than the theme of pigeonholing African Americans. The film
begins with Shirley, the matriarch of the family, sitting in a doctor s... Show more content on

Cora all go on The Maury Show to determine whether or not Mr. Brown is Cora s father. Maury
claims that he is not Cora s father. Kimberly s nastiness toward her husband, Calvin, and the rest
of the family is eventually revealed to be from her experience of being raped as a teenager.
Byron, originally thought to be Shirley s youngest son, is exposed as Kimberly s illegitimate
son. This was kept hidden from both Calvin and Byron. After Calvin finds out, he and Kimberly

also must make child support payments to Sabrina, putting stress on him as he tries to hold down

Art of embroidery once the most valued form..was progressively de professionalised, domesticated

encroaching on the viewer Hatoum s piece makes the connection between the physical senses and
sociocultural experience of confinement and restriction. In Islam the female body is a dangerous

represents the socially oppressed body and puts the audience in its place. Acknowledging the

Friendship in A Thousand Splendid Sons by Khaled...
Without relationships there would be no form, no creation, no intelligence, no love and no universe
. Relationships are defined as emotional bonds between people whether they are peers, parents or
admirers. This specific quote by J.J. Dewey expresses that without relationships love, specifically
ceases to exist. An important type of relationship in our society is friendship. Women, specifically
create nurturing and emotionally fulfilling bonds with each other. They can create satisfying
exchanges of ideas and feelings and find a way to increase inner strength and fulfillment in each
other. An example of strong female bonding occurred in an epic novel, A Thousand Splendid Sons.

By stating this compliment Nana provided Mariam a sense of love and support. Also Nana s
various attempts of badmouthing Jalil was a way to convince Mariam to stay with her instead
of her father. This also displayed her love for Mariam since she obviously didn t want her to
move away. She also demonstrated her affection by dismissing the option of school. She
conveyed her message by stating that students would make fun of her and call her a harami. She
ended her point with You re all I have. I won t lose you to them. (pg 18.) This proves that she
does not want her daughter to get hurt and that she does not want to lose her. In addition her final
commitment of suicide showcased how much Mariam meant to her. She specifically told Mariam
Don t leave me, Mariam jo. Please stay. I ll die if you go. (pg 27.) This justifies my point about
Nana finding inner strength and fulfillment through Mariam. Even though she went through several
hardships in her youth she was able to move on by seeking support and company from Mariam s
presence.
Throughout the novel Laila s relationship with her daughter, Aziza was a powerful and familial

It is also used as measure for financial institutions to gauge their trust level in the financial system and to check each institutions financial health. This rate is determined by a group of leading banks that submit the rates of ten different currencies and fifteen lengths of loans, which range from overnight to twelve months2. Although the story only takes place over the period of an hour, Brently may have a job that requires him to be away a lot. When he comes home, they author describes him as travel stained which would not be the ideal way to describe someone if they were only supposed to be away for the day. Travel stained For the wife and her ex husband the physical distance is even greater. Her ex husband was a military man, and they were forced to move all over. The narrator says she sent tapes to the blind man from Moody AFB, McGuire, McConnell, and finally Travis, near Sacramento (Carver, 2), and if any couple is going to be moving around like that and one of them is not comfortable with the circumstance, it surely will not end well. The added stress of whether her husband would make it home from work would not have helped either. Again, more subtle than the rest, the narrator and his wife have a physical distance between them at times as well. The husband states that Every night I smoked dope and stayed up as long as I could before I fell asleep and then goes on to say that his wife and him barely ever go to bed at the same time at night (Carver, 8). Although this is not the greatest distance possible, it is significant none the less. Most couples who have similar work schedules will go to bed around the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although WWF has had success in their campaigns and received a plethora of positive feedback, the non profit organization has also received negative comments in the media. Strengths Goals. In contrast, in the movie Gattaca, Vincent was not discriminated because of his social status, color, or race. However, in the eugenicsmovement in the US in the early 20th century there was discrimination because of social status, color, and race. There is a lot more involved in managing a dairy farm other than the milking process, farmers have many roles to carry out to ensure a successful operation for example: financial management, land management, maintenance, health care, crop production, reproduction and herd replacement. Financial management and recording (including bookkeeping), help farmers to keep track of cash flow, payable and receivable. Aspects include borrowing and investing money, buying feed, fertiliser and temporary water, income from milk sales and payment for external services such as consultants and agronomists (On the Farm Dairy Australia, 2011). Land management includes pasture growth, sprinkler irrigation systems, fixing fences and fertilising paddocks. Farmers are more aware these days about environmental impacts caused by agricultural practices and implement ways to prevent degradation such as planting trees and shrubs to increase river bank stability to reduce soil erosion and fencing off river banks so the soil and plants will not be spoilt by a herd trampling on them. Settling ponds for water runoff from dairies are set up to prevent the contaminated water entering the rivers, dams and streams (On the Farm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Digital Immigrants And Digital Technology Technology is advancing and becoming complex in our society, as it propels our daily lives. In learning environments such as schools, most students are able to acknowledge the learning differences between themselves and their teachers. These differences occur because a student is more likely to be a digital native, whereas the teacher is considered to group with digital immigrants. Digital immigrants are those who are able to understand the relevance of technology, but choose to utilize it differently. However, digital natives are those who are born in a generation in which technology is at easy access. Since a digital native s mind is introduced to technology in an earlier stage in life, it functions differently than a digital immigrant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Digital immigrants, those who are born in the era of writing letters and finding research from literal texts find it difficult to adapt to technology (Small, 2001, p. 4) On the other hand; the digital natives born with technology have incorporated it in their daily routines. Vicky Rideout s study of the amount of time kids this generation spend on technology shows that children and teenagers ages 8 to 18 are accustomed to technology that that they on average spend twice as much time with screens each year (Richtel, 2014, p. 4). The increased amount of time using technology is able to impact the brains learning manner because it strengthens and tests their mind s ability to perform activities. New York Times mentions the two surveys done by the Pew Internet Project, and Common Sense Media in San Francisco. In the Common Sense report, for instance, some teachers said that even though the attention span of digital natives may not be as great as digital immigrants but the constant use of technology at home and in class test their brain development and allow them to improve in in subjects like math and science (Richtel, 2014, p. 21). This case debates against evolutionism and leads the reader through a set of events where most people debate the great concept of a person s right to think on their own, otherwise known as freewill. Bertram Cates, a man of 24 years is accused of deliberately breaking the law. He is frightened and oblivious to what he has done. The story centers around him along with the characters who will also impact the plot. As I ve read the book I have brought my attention that both my character and that of Bert Cates is similar with some differing aspects. As previously stated, Bertram Cates is frightened, quiet, and perhaps oblivious to what he has done. He s said to be innocent due to the fact that his character isn t rude or judgmental. Unlike the rest of the townspeople who seem to be patronized, Cates is affected by the negligent behavior of the townspeople. Cates is a pale and thin man that teaches a sophomore science class. Of course, high is a subjective target. Originally a C meant average; today however, the expectations and pressures to give and receive A s and B s takes its tollon teachers and students alike. This nullifies the value of the traditional grading scale and creates a host of entirely new problems. Gary Coe, principal and athletic director of Mary Walker High School in Springdale, agrees. He says that he has definitely seen a rise in the average grades. Some students are maintaining much higher grades with the same work that would have earned much less even five years ago. He further notes many recent valedictorians of his small school have received well below the average on their SAT scores. Coe attributes his top student s higher grades and low test scores to qualities possessed in a student such as: willingness to work and good attitude which aren t always apparent at test time. He believes that even some of the best students take classes now just to get a grade and not to maximize their learning. Interestingly, Coe doesn t feel parents put any particular pressure on the teachers to bestow high grades on their children. Teachers, on the other hand, have a startlingly different perspective. Kevin Jacka, the high school s school to work coordinator, head football coach, and PE instructor for the past ten years, says he sees now that the C grade is not acceptable to most people, and it no longer represents the average student. These badges, which are also known as sociometers, automatically measure face to face interaction, body motion, and vocal features among other things. • 21. Foreign Tax Credit For Individuals Foreign Tax Credit for Individuals: The Foreign Tax Credit is designed to be very simple in nature, as it only requires basic math skills to compute the tax liability with the credit. As mentioned above, income that is earned in a foreign location may be taxed by the respective government of that location. Therefore, because the United States utilizes a global tax system, the individual or entity may be taxed by the foreign government and definitely taxed by the United States government. Therefore in order to reduce the double taxation liability, the government allows U.S. taxpaying entities to reduce U.S. income tax dollar for dollar (credited) by the amount that has been paid in income tax by a U.S. person to a foreign government (Adams). Furthermore, there are two limitations on this credit that a U.S. taxpaying entity must be aware of. The first limitation states that only income tax is only susceptible to the credit. To further explain, this means taxes like Value Added Tax, property taxes, taxes on capital or assets, and any other tax which the U.S. does not consider a tax on income are excluded from the foreign tax credit (Adams). (However, a valuable tax planning strategy will note that these taxes may be deductible on an individual s Schedule A for Itemized Deductions. In addition, if an individual owns a business or rents out a building abroad, he/she can deduct these expenses on his/her Schedule C or Schedule E). The second limitation states that an ... With regard to the resolution of the problem, MRI Brief therapy outlines three ways in which the problem behavior or issue is maintained. It is hypothesized that if the individual would give up their solutions to the problem, it will resolve itself. The following have been outlined as problem maintaining behaviors: attempting to solve a problem that is non existent, denying the existence of the problem, or solving a problem on the wrong level (first order change vs. second order change) (Watzlawick, 1974). First order change would be a change in how the problem game is played, for example, if individuals were playing with checkers pieces, but decided to use chess pieces instead while still using the rules of checkers. The pieces may have changed, but the overall rules remain the same. If these same individuals were to learn how to play chess, this would constitute a second order change as the rules of the game have now changed. However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized jobs concerned with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing circumstances (ibid: 463). So, scientific managementworks better with small companies which do not usually need to react to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). One example could be human resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced workers with great potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very valuable workers for a low cost (BabГo et al, 2007: 50). 3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together (Rollinson, 2005: 9). This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4), and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11). With so many factors shaping one s identity, it is difficult to determine which play the most pivotal role in one coming into their own. Most interestingly, identity is a controlling factor in motivating one s behavior and actions. A common thread in shaping identity across all cultures is the role of spiritual tradition. Through the characters in The Last Report on Miracles at the Little No Horse, Louise Erdrich confronts individual and communal responses to that reality. Since tradition is symbolic, not material, one can not physically hold on to their tradition. In other words, an individual makes the conscious decision to allow or disallow tradition to shape their own identity. Pauline Puyat is the product of cultural conflict, which shapes her twisted, violent nature as a character, and through her Erdrich explores the winning of the west from a non western perspective. In Islam the female body is a dangerous threat to established order where patriarchy is the oppressor. The lack of a body in the piece represents the socially oppressed body and puts the audience in its place. Acknowledging the stereotypes put onto the other and subverting them to form new identities and reclaim otherness as a position of power. This is a response from the radical space of my marginality. It is a space of resistance. It is a space I choose. Relationships are defined as emotional bonds between people whether they are peers, parents or admirers. This specific quote by J.J. Dewey expresses that without relationships love, specifically ceases to exist. An important type of relationship in our society is friendship. Women, specifically create nurturing and emotionally fulfilling bonds with each other. They can create satisfying exchanges of ideas and feelings and find a way to increase inner strength and fulfillment in each other. By stating this compliment Nana provided Mariam a sense of love and support. Also Nana s various attempts of badmouthing Jalil was a way to convince Mariam to stay with her instead of her father. This also displayed her love for Mariam since she obviously didn t want her to move away. She also demonstrated her affection by dismissing the option of school. She conveyed her message by stating that students would make fun of her and call her a harami. She ended her point with You re all I have. I won t lose you to them. (pg 18.) This proves that she does not want her daughter to get hurt and that she does not want to lose her. In addition her final commitment of suicide showcased how much Mariam meant to her. She specifically told Mariam Don t leave me, Mariam jo. Please stay. I ll die if you go. (pg 27.) This justifies my point about Nana finding inner strength and fulfillment through Mariam. Even though she went through several hardships in her youth she was able to move on by seeking support and company from Mariam s presence. Throughout the novel Laila s relationship with her daughter, Aziza was a powerful and familial bond. Her pregnancy brought her hope and strength since her child was the only reminder of her one true love, Tariq. She expressed her emotions by stating, A part of Tariq was still alive inside her, sprouting tiny arms, growing translucent hands. How could she jeopardize the only thing she had left of him, of her old life? (pg219) This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
