Essay on Suspense of Stephen King
Stephen King a very popular story writer is most famous for his horror fiction
stories. He has written many books that have inspired other writers to write and
other people to read more. He has made many accomplishments that a lot of writers
have never achieved. According to his biography, King has sold fifty bestsellers,
and has acted in a few movies that are based on his books. The use of Suspense as a
literary element is constant in books written by Stephen King. This will examine
Stephen King s life and the literary criticism of his short story, The Two Dead Girls
The Green Mile. In his works he blends elements of the traditional gothic, depressing
and threatening tales with those of the modern psychological suspenseful fiction...

The Green Mile, The Two Dead Girls is a very recognized work of Stephen King s.
The book series itself was so high quality that it has also been produced as a movie.
This dynamic anecdote is about two girls who are raped and murdered. A man by
the name of John Coffey committed the dreadful crime. After his trial, Coffey is
sentenced to death in the electric chair, which in the book they called Old Sparky,
that is located in the state penitentiary at Cold Mountain. Paul Edgecombe and
Percy Wetmore, the guards watch over the men and women that die in the chair.
Throughout the book, the reader is lead to debate whether or not John Coffey is a
devil in human form or a different kind of being. Chapter 1 is part of the book
which analyzes the thesis. In chapter 1 the author is describing to the reader what
the penitentiary looked and felt like. Another significant detail in this part of the
book is that King explains and describes the Green Mile. The last steps before a
prisoner sits in the electric chair to be killed are normally called the last mile. In
this particular penitentiary, the path to the chair was floored with tile. The planks
on the floor had a lime green color to it, and that is why they called it the green
mile (King Pg 85). King describes the distance for the person that had the bad
fortune to walk it being a miserable long pace. The author also says that the look on

The Last Colony Of Roanoke
The Last Colony of Roanoke
Five hundred years ago, European explorers landed in North America. After trying
to locate a new route to Asia across the Atlantic Ocean, they found a continent they
did not know existed. Three different groups traveled to the New World, starting in
1584 (Basu, Tanya). The last group included Gov. John White, he had to return to
England to submit his report to the Queen. John White tried several times to return
to Virginia, but it wasn t until a few years later he was finally able to return to his
new home. In 1584, when White was finally able to return, the land was barren and
deserted of people. This baffling revelation began one of the greatest mysteries of all
time.

Raleigh sent out two small troops lead by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to
scout out a new inhabitable area (Horn, James). They arrived on the outer banks a
few months later in August, 1585 (Carpenter, Jeannine). They were the first English
explorers to set eyes on North Carolina (The Lost Colony). Within days after Lanes
return to Roanoke Island from Weapemeoc, he wrote historian and geographer
Richard Hakluyt that they had: discovered the mainland to be the goodliest soil
under the cope of heaven, so abounding with sweet trees, that bring such sundry
rich and most pleasant gummes, grapes of such greatness, yet wild, as France,
Spain nor Italy hath no greater (Carpenter, Jeannine). One of the islands they
persuade looked like a perfect island to settle. In another letter he sent to Sir
Francis Walsingham, secretary to Queen Elizabeth, Lane seems to have enclosed a
crude map, its legends revealing a great store of fish and great red grapes very
pleasant there (Carpenter, Jeannine). This island was Roanoke, ten miles long and
two and a half miles wide. These were all reasons why the Roanoke colonists would
have been able to establish a long term residence there.
They returned to England a year later with two Natives, Manteo and Wanchese (The
Lost Colony). With them they brought back plentiful information about the new lands
they discovered. Among the information
The Story of Maurice White and Earth Wind and Fire
The reason I decided to prepared my paper on Maurice White, the founder of Earth
Wind and Fire is because of the fond memories that I have listening to my parents
music. Music from the parents era is very different from the music of today. Music
from that era was more love oriented, rhythmic and rich in science of musicand
musical arrangements. Artists my parents are fond of consists of music from such
groups as the Four Tops, the Dells, the Dramatics, Harold Melvin and the Blue
Notes, the Chi Lites and Stylistics. They also list Junior Walker and the All stars, Al

The Wonder Woman Analysis
American history is filled with an abundant amount of fictional pop culture icons,
ranging from web slinging vigilantes to detectives in bat costumes. These characters
have not only evolved media and literature, but they have also become a strong
representation of political topics. And, while many characters may have detoured
from their original values and ethics, one has remained a prime example of political
activism, civil rights, and social justice. Diana Prince the Wonder Woman, has a rich
history filled with analogies and metaphors of the 20th century woman, representing
the struggles and challenges that they were faced with daily. However, the appeal of

If God knows what we are going to do, he has no right to reward the good and punish
the wicked. Discuss
The idea that God gave humans free will is one that is essential to the Christian
faith. This is highlighted in Genesis. If we were to believe this concept consequently,
we would believe that we are morally responsible for our actions. The idea of
omnipotence logically requires God knowing what we will do before we do it. This
is a problem with the idea of free will, as this may mean that we do not entirely
have freedom. It could be argued that God has no right to reward and punish if he is
able to foresee what will happen. In the Bible there are many passages which
demonstrate God rewarding and punishing.
The God of classical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hell not only seems to be a very harsh reality, but this concept also clashes with the
goodness of God. This extreme divine justice is incompatible with the idea of an
all loving and perfectly good God. It is written in Chronicles that He is good; his
love endures for ever . However the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
in divine punishment for their wickedness, Gods participation in the Battle of Jericho
and Noah and the flood all challenge the belief of Gods omnibenevolence and
therefore his right to reward and punish.
An alternative problem to this theory regards God s omnipotenence. If God is aware
of our past, present and future it is then not possible for us to do anything on our own
accord. Omniscience and free will are clearly incompatible. They are many
resolutions to this problem; although some thinkers may believe that free will is
not possible and that this is only apparent some thinkers believe that the two
different states of an eternal God is a solution. Firstly, God as timeless may resolve
this problem as if God is outside of time it could be interpreted that he knows what
we will do but does not cause our actions as he is unchanging and outside of time.
Secondly, God being everlasting may also be a solution. If God moves through time
with his creation that he knows everything that is logically possible to know. God
may know our actions but does not cause them. This is an important factor as one
attribute of God offers

The Intervention Agent of Study Is Guava-Juice and Mung
Beans
The intervention agent of the study is guava juice. The fruit itself contains up to 300
mg vitamin C of 100g edible portion (Tun et al., 2007). Although one may think that
quite a lot vitamin C gets lost during processing techniques such as juice making, it
was shown that 100 ml of guava juice still contains 76.2 mg of vitamin C. Therefore it
was decided to use guava juice since it is easier to standardize. Even if the juice
needs to be stored up to 8 days there is only a slight decrease of 1.2% in the amount
of vitamin C, provided it is kept at a cool place, where the temperature doesn t exceed
4В°C (Jawaheer et al., 2003).
In former studies it was shown that the enhancing effect of vitamin C on iron
absorption is dose dependent. Only 25 mg of vitamin C were enough to increase
iron absorption two fold, whereas 200 mg even elevated the absorption 6 fold
(Hallberg, 1981).
Therefore it was decided to include two treatment groups in the study design. These
groups receive either a low (25mg) or a high (152mg) amount of vitamin C.
To implement this idea into practice we take food technologists into account who
produce a submission juice. With it we then dilute the guava juice with the high
vitamin C concentration (152 mg/200ml) down to 25mg vitamin C per drink. The
control group only gets the submission juice, which contains colouring and flavours
to imitate the actual guava juice.
Mung bean as iron source
The iron content of mung bean ranges between 4 8 mg/100g. Whereas

The Treatment Of Cancer And Cancer
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Cancer can be classified as a
typed of disease that causes an overgrowth of cells (1). The cancer cells begin to
divide at an abnormal rate which can cause lumps or tumors. This disease is very
widespread and includes over 100 different types. Some of the most common types of
cancerinclude, Breast Cancer, Leukemia, Prostate Cancer, and Melanoma (2).
Because this disease is so widespread and one of the leading causes of death,
researchers are working hard to develop ways to prevent and treat cancer. Over the
years, many of these treatments have shown great potential for a cure to cancer. One
of these that is gaining more advancements every year is the treatment of cancer
using Immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is the use of a person s immune systemin order
to fight cancer. By taking what they know about how the immune system works
scientists have discovered many ways to treat cancer with immunotherapy. Some of
the current treatments of caner using immunotherapy include, antibody therapy, cell
mediated immunotherapy, and cytokine immunotherapy.
Antibody therapy is a widely researched area of immunotherapy. According to
Encyclopedia Britannica, antibodies are a protective protein produced by the immune
system in response to the presence of a foreign substance, called an antigen.
Antibodies recognize and latch onto antigens in order to remove them from the body
(4). Antibody therapy dates back to around 200 BC, where they

considering expanding into new health service areas like home health care and
outpatient surgery. The company is at a crossroads with regard to its financial
goals; HCA currently faces the likelihood of adverse changes to the Medicare

This is because there is a lack of growth opportunities through acquisition and
construction of new hospitals. HCA is expected to mature and become a cash cow
by about 1987. At this stage, it is expected to incur limited capital expenditure.
Instead, the company can be milked continuously from its existing operations and
is expected to generate cash in excess of the amount required to maintain the
business. Likely impact of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement One of
the significant impacts of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement is that
hospitals will be paid based on expected fixed rates rather than actually incurred
costs. Hospitals will no longer be paid using cost plus basis (costs plus a certain
percentage of profits based on costs). As a result of fixed rate payments to hospitals,
there will be more incentive for hospitals to reduce costs and improve efficiency in
order to maximise profits. The prospective reimbursement program will also result in
hospitals not being able to recoup full amount of allowable interest expense. Instead,
they can only recoup the interest tax shield portion of the interest expense. Investors
Essay on Doublethink In 1984
What is doublethink? Orwell describes doublethink as amp;#8220;the power of
holding two contradictory beliefs in one amp;#8217;s mind simultaneously, and
accepting both of them. ; In 1984, doublethink is the normal way of thought, and as a
result everyone understands it and practices it. Doublethink is different from
changing onesmind, lying, and self deceptionin many ways. Doublethink involves
believing in the two contradictory ideas at the same time. This is different from
lying because lying is saying something that is wrong and knowing that it is wrong
but still saying it anyway. For example lets say you broke a vase. When your
mother asks you who broke the vase and you say the dog did it that would be lying.
The reason it is not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this would be thinking that you are such a smart person that you do
not have to do any homework or studying and expect to do well in class. This is
self deception because even geniuses have to learn the material at one point. Some
people, such as geniuses, may learn it at a faster rate but they do have to learn it. So
by thinking you are smart enough to do well in class without doing any work would
be self deception. Now that doublethink is distinguished from lying, changing ones
mind, and self deception, some examples of doublethink will be discussed and
whether or not it is necessary and virtuous for contemporary American society.
Affirmative action is an excellent example of doublethink. Affirmative action is the
idea of ending discrimination by basically practicing it. Affirmative action says
that no matter how many qualified people there are for a job there has to be a
certain number of minorities let in. Which means, in turn, if your white it will be
harder to get a job due to affirmative action, because employers will have to hire a
certain number of minorities even if they are not as qualified as you. This is to
justify for generations of discrimination towards minorities by creating a new era of
discrimination toward non minorities. This is a clear example of doublethink in that
one is led to believe that by discriminating you can justify for discrimination.

Question 1. Choose an architect or practice whose work is covered by or relevant
to this course and discuss critically one or more of their design projects or drawings
or urban proposals as precedent case studies. Selectively situate this work in relation
to their body of work, and against the practices and concerns of the period. Focus on
the architectural qualities of a specific key aspect of the design of the projects.
Selectively consider how they might relate to the historical situation, cultural values,
theoretical concerns and design practices of the time. This may involve a selective
analysis of compositional design practices, material fabrication production and the
experiential reception of built outcomes of the projects.
A lot has happened in architecture since Louis Kahn death in 1974, some of it are
really good, some are dreadful and we have different preferences about which is
which. However, Kahn s work look better than ever on its own terms. Better in its
solidity and gravity. He was an architect of beautiful contradictions and one of the
few to create architectural elements out of scale with the human figure. His buildings
are very elegantly designed but are constructed of basic, often crude materials.

There are three different types of meningitis; viral, fungal, and bacterial meningitis.
Although not as common as viral meningitis, bacterial meningitis is more likely to
leave individuals with permanent disabilities. In children, disabilities can range from
deafness, hearing loss, and cerebral palsy? the most common after effects. And in
adults, septic shock, brain swelling, and hydrocephalus are most likely to occur if the
disease advances without treatment within a sufficient time period. The three main
bacteria responsible for bacterial meningitisare streptococcus pneumoniae,

In the 1930s, infant mortality because of bacterial meningitis caused by
Haemophilus influenza type B was almost at one hundred percent. But with the

five to ten percent. Thirty percent of survivors were often left with defects such as
deafness, blindness, seizures, and mental retardation(Mark A. Herbert, ed. Derek W.
Hood, ed. E. Richard Moxon, ed. Haemophilus influenza Protocols , 29?30). Anyone
can carry the bacterium. The bacteria are found dormant in the back of their nose
and throat. Though they are dormant in the carrier, the carrier can still pass them on
to another person through ways such as: kissing, coughing, sneezing, sharing a cup,
utensil, lip gloss, or cigarette. In other words, through the exchange of respiratory

Citizenship, Religion and Society Policy of the United...
Citizenship, Religion and Society Policy of the United Kingdom Introduction
Religion affects the way in which one of the majority of the world s population
structures people live. Many mainstream institutional religions have experienced
declining membership, retains power to influence systems of ethnics and morality.
Also, religion has a strong connection with integration and migration. Therefore,
Europe differs considerably in their responses toward integration and migration
related diversity (Simpson, 235). This is reflected for instance in the time duration
with which immigrants can apply for and receive permanent residence and
citizenship status. Currently, Switzerland (12 years), Greece and Austria (10 years)
are the most difficult countries to obtain citizenship whereas Ireland, the Netherlands
and France (five years) have relatively fewer barriers (Lebrun, pg. 144). In England,
the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act of 2009 requires a residential status of
eight years before being eligible for naturalization. It also introduced a voluntary
community service for migrants that can reduce the length of the naturalization
process by up to two years (Faas, 143). In this article, it is considered how national
identity and citizenship, and understanding of the geography of religion in the U. K,
by Europe and migration related diversity, are intertwined at political level and what
implications there are for future curriculums development. Regional Setting
Colonization of America
When the Europeans had discovered America, the possibilities for them were endless.
Although mistakenly discovered, it greatly aroused the curiosity of many European
explorers. There were new opportunities for them to expand, and in more than just
one way. Chances to spread religion, boost their economy, and help themselves
politically. As soon as Columbus returned, the pope issued a decree saying the world
itself was an inheritance of Christianity. Spainand Portugal, the two main Christian
powers at the time, set out to spread Christianity all across the world following the
Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494. What better place to start then with the new found land

This created a large amount of wealth, and more and more markets and ports began to
appear across America. A supply had been created and demand followed, creating
economic success. Merchants and their ships increased and carried materials such as

steady population increase to show for it. This pushed exploration further in all
directions, and they now had plenty of reasons to continue expansion. From the initial

Chapter Summary Of Kindred
The book Kindred takes place in 1976 California, but the setting goes back and
forth between 1976 California and 1800s Maryland. Kindred starts with a prologue
that introduces the reader by telling us bits and pieces of what is happening in the
book. The prologue may be confusing to readers because the prologue starts with
what is happening at the end of Kindred. The prologue begins with Dana being
hospitalized because her left arm is gone. The cops think that her boyfriend, Kevin,
did something to Dana s arm. In the following chapter, The River Dana starts
disappearing. Dana encounters a boy named Rufus, whom she saved from drowning.
When she returns from the antebellum South, Dana says she was gone for a long
amount of time, but her boyfriend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Caucasian Americans for slavery, but it does not mean we have to forgive and

How Feudalism Played A Major Role With State And The...

In a feudal system, a peasant or worker known as a vassal received a piece of land in
return for serving a lord or king, especially during times of war. (Feudal System)
During the Middle Ages and other parts of modern Europe, through texts, we can see
how feudalism played a major role with state and the government. Kings looked at it
as higher authority and have more control over the knights, nobles, and peasants that
lie within that system. Though kings have more of a physical control throughout
these texts, I believe the queens have more manipulative power. In Marie de France s
short story, Lanval , it is obvious that the state was in control of many lives.
Throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later in the story, the reader experiences the power of the queen when Lanval denies
her offer to love him.
The Queen saw him go off alone, And she headed straight for that knight. She sat
near him, she called him over,
She spoke as her heart would move her:
Lanval, I really do respect you,
I really care, I really love,
And you can have all my love. ( France 393 399)
The queen began to accuse Lanval of being gay because he had never had a woman
show him pleasure. Suddenly, Lanval admits that he is in love with someone else
who would be far better than the queen herself, which sent the queen away crying.
Soon afterwards, Lanval was commanded to appear in court without delay. The
Queen s assertive power was shown by her ability to punish innocent people,
meaning she obviously got what she wanted regardless of whether it was right or not.

Reb Tevye s Tradition, Family, and Religion over Time
Reb Tevye s Tradition, Family, and Religion Over Time
Most modern Jews, young and old, have imitated Tevye singing about the traditions
of his shtetl in his booming baritone, but across generations, political parties, and
continents there are numerous interpretations of the word tradition. That singing,
dancing Tevye was originally a poor milkman from a Yiddish novella, and both of
these Tevyes have their adherence to tradition tested in several ways. The different
worlds in which these two pieces were released affect the depictions and
interpretations of what many see as the same story, but one common theme is what
ties together the book, the movie, and everyone who appreciates their beauty:
religion. One major difference in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both stories, society all around Tevye is changing, but a huge discrepancy is seen
that Tevye the Dairyman must stick to his tradition to prove something to external
members of society, whereas Tevye from Fiddler is so adamant in his traditions
because internally he cannot fathom going against everything he has believed in his
entire life. A common phrase in Tevye the Dairyman s running monologue is What
would my enemies think? Who exactly does he mean by enemies? Tevye sees his
enemies as anybody trying to impose change upon his shtetl and his lifestyle. This
includes the Czar, those performing the pogroms, or anyone else who is upsetting the
once peaceful balance he saw between the Jews and the rest of the world. When
Tevye from Fiddler argues the pros and cons of Chava marrying Fyedka, he thinks
to himself Can I deny everything I believe in? How can I turn my back on my
faith? If I try to bend that far I will break. On the other hand...No! There is no other
hand! He comes to this realization because of what he has known his whole life, not
because he feels the need to prove anything to anyone except God.
Both Tevyes prioritize their values in the following manner: religion first, then family
values, and finally tradition. In the engagements and marriages of both Tzietl and
Hodl, Tevye adjusts his own interpretations of family values and tradition, but religion
creates a different conflict. When
Boyz N The Hood Criminological Theories
Criminological theories have evolved considerably in terms of their interpretations
of crime and deviance. Shifting away from the classical and neoclassical schools of
criminology, we move towards a scientific approach that explains criminal behaviour
as determined by biological, psychological and social (William McShane, 2018: 25)

all positivist theorists. It is through the various positivist theories that we are able to
answer this question and analyze both conforming and deviant behaviour, while
simultaneously providing explanations for such behaviour. In the film Boyz N the
Hood, we can see that crimeis rampant, and through the multiple positivist... Show

Even though Tre joins Doughboy, his inner containment prevails as he gains self
control (Williams McShane, 2018: 139) and decides to get out of Doughboy s car.
Tre s inner and outer containment demonstrate reckless containment theory.
Evidently, Tre drifts from conformity to deviance, but through his self control he is
able to renegotiate that deviant behaviour back to conforming behaviour.
Additionally, in Merton s modes of adaption, Tre can be seen as a conformist.
Merton maintains that conformity is the most common method used to adapt to
strain (Merton, 1938: 677). Although Tre drifts between conformity and deviance,
he is most notably recognized as a conforming character. Unlike Doughboy who
rejects both means and goals, Tre strives to obtain the ultimate goal of wealth
through approved means of working at a clothing store in the mall. Also, Ricky
demonstrates Tre s conforming behaviour when he says, I ve got this friend named
Tre that s always talking about going into business and all (Singleton, 1991). Clearly,
in strain theory, Tre is a conformist as he accepts both goals and the legitimate means
to achieve those goals.
Certainly, Tre s positive parental influences, especially his father, can be credited for
his pro conforming

persona that is Blanche DuBois; the unfortunate victim of society and the victimizer

Others felt that since they were people they should have to stay since they are not

Queen Isabella played a role in the case also. She tried the case a total of seven
times with five different presidents. Queen Isabella claimed since the ship was in
her waters it was Spain s property. Queen Isabella really just wanted the financial
benefit of the slaves and did not care about the Africans as people. This shows the
role Queen Isabella played in the Amistad Africans Case.
9. There were many individuals who claimed the Africans as their own. Most of the
individuals who claimed the Africans claimed them for the financial benefit after
selling them. Queen Isabella claimed them since they were in Spanish water which
went back to the Pinckney s treaty. Montez and Ruiz claimed the Africans as cargo
and since they were the captains it belonged to them. This shows why some of the
individuals claimed the Africans.
12. Someone would have had to pay to send the Africans home. I feel it is the
responsibility of the captains, Montez and Ruiz, because slaves were not supposed
imported into the United States any longer. Also Montez and Ruiz had the Africans
names changed so it would not look like illegal slave trade. The captains also
treated the slaves horribly while aboard so the least that they could do is pay for the
Africans to go home. This is how I feel about who should have to pay to send the

Change Management Strategies For New Merged Company
For this merger to create a new culture, these artifacts need to encompass and be
reflective of the new merged company, without favor to one or the other. Though
removal and replacement of these artifacts may be difficult for some to grasp, while
doing so, by introducing consistent rewards and recognition can be one of the first
new artifacts, and can fill the void and keep focus forward, versus looking back to
the past. Strong new programs also encourage if not promote further communication,
and help build a supportive work environment that will foster a working network of
colleagues.
One last note as to artifacts; although founders, leaders, and company stories are
valued artifacts, so are the people working here and now. Celebrate those with the
new merged company; create new stories with new events, programs, and by starting
new traditions for the organization. This gives an identity to the new organization,
creates the new culture, and begins establishing organizational socialization.
5.Change Management Strategy.
The most appropriate set of change management strategies to use for implementing
change would be an appreciative inquiry approach. A merging of two companies
creates a plethora of unknowns for all; the unknown is a strong threat to all that
perceive it. Reframing the image of merging into a positive strength for all is more
palatable, if not approachable for most. Appreciative inquiry typically examines
successful events, organizations, and work units.

Seated at the feet of Jesus. An Attitude of Servanthood and Discipleship
There are times when serving can become a distraction for us. When such occurs you

This passage of scripture begins with Jesus and his disciples who were on their

Samaritan village, but the Samaritans refused him because he was going to
Jerusalem to do the will of his father. The Samaritans were Israelites and they were

Martha asked Jesus, didn t he care that she did all the work by herself? However,
Martha was allowing her emotions to get in the way by worrying about the
preparations. Although her emotions were trying to take control of the situation
Jesus saw this. He told her not to be worried or anxious only a few things were
needed. Our emotions are God given and they are our servants and not our
masters. Our emotions affect our character and how we act toward one another.
Therefore, we cannot let our emotions dictate who we are. Here in this text, Jesus
who is a servant of his father took time from his journey to have fellowship and to
teach the word of God. Romans 10:15 says: And how can anyone preach unless
they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good

Essay on Igor Stravinsky
IGOR STRAVINSKY
Igor Stravinsky is considered by many the greatest composer of the 20th Century.
Several composers have made breakthroughs and great accomplishments in the past
100 years, but Stravinsky has dominated nearly every trend set. He was born near St.
Petersburg, Russia in Oranienbaum, on June 17, 1882. He was born to a famous
Russian bass opera singer, Fyodor Ignatyevich Stravinsky.
Igor Stravinsky was third of a family of four boys. He grew up hearing his father
practicing his opera and attending local ballets. He also started taking piano lessons
when he was 9 years old and continued on with musical notation and composition
instruction. All throughout his early life he studied music. However, although he had

He was so impressed by Stravinsky s promise as a composer that he invited him to
join his small group of artistic assistants. For the rest of the 1909 season Diaghilev
asked Stravinsky to compose various pieces of ballet music. Then, in 1910, Diaghilev
commissioned Stravinsky to compose his new ballet, The Firebird.
The result of his commission was the first real modern ballet. It set the example of the
composer consulting both with the choreographer and the stage/costuming artist
during the composition.
amp;#9;For the next few years, Stravinsky and Diaghilev worked very closely
together. Diaghilev wanted all of Stravinsky s new works to be produced by his
company. Stravinsky s next two works for the ballet, Petrouchka (1910 11) and
The Rite of Spring (1912 13) are perfectly crafted, powerful pieces, drawing on
Stravinsky s rhythmic and harmonic imagination. The most amazing part is that
Stravinsky had not even reached middle age at the time he composed these pieces.
The Rite of Spring created a violent reaction because no one had ever heard music
that carried this much premature power. It was almost as though there was a sense of
jealousy from his colleagues. The entire musical establishment criticized stravinsky,
but he didn t really seem to care.
amp;#9;During World War I, Stravinsky lived in Switzerland. There he concentrated
on smaller scale chamber pieces, piano works, and songs. One of these, The Soldier s

Progressives versus Populists
The onset 20th Century holds two main movements: The Populists and The
Progressives. These two parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold
diversities. The Populists party comprises of farmers and poor whites in the south;
they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads and banks. The Populists also call for
government action, to intervene and to create an efficient society which includes a
flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class men and
men of universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals
through legislation and the judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as
well as destroying the Robber Barons. Some Progressives were actually a part of the
Populist Party; they weren t contradictory parties. To simplify the matter The
Populist party held picnics in order to present discussions, while the Progressives
hold educated and sophisticated men of great esteem who were much more formal.
The Populist Party was the people s party, hence the name Populist, the party was
created in the late 1800s when the Southern Famer alliance contacted Powderly, the
head of The Knights of Labor. The party s first platform was called the Omaha

direct election of senators, civil service reform, an eight hour work week, and the gov

The Importance of the Zollverein in the Movement for...
Formation the German Confederation created by the Congress of Vienna had 39
states, each having its dues and tolls on goods passim through its territory. This
made goods expensive and hindered trade. For instance, Prussia had 67 different
tariff areas within its border after 1815. As such, Germany was economically and
commercially the most backward country in western Europe in the early years of the
19th century.
Purssia took the lead to promote free trade movement in the German Confederation.
By the 1818 Tariff Reform Act, Prussiaremoved all customs barriers on trade within
her boundaries, making the country for the first time an economic and commercial
unit. At the same time, she imposed a uniform tariff on goods from other states ...

Moreover, the clash of interests was to be forgotten in the face of the considerable
advantages offered by the formation of the Zollverein. A feeling of solidarity and the
idea of a single fatherland assumed a concrete form for the Germans. In this way, the
quiet, but incessant, pressure of economic forces broke down the political barriers
which divided Germany.
In the words of a contemporary, Dr. Bowring who commented in 1840 as follows:
The Zollverein had brought the sentiment of German nationality out of the regions of
hope and fancy into those of positive and material interests. The general feeling is
that it is the first step towards what is called the Germanization of the people. It has
broken down some of the strongest holds of alienation and hostility. By a community
of interests on commercial and trading questions it has prepared the way for a
political nationality.
Strengthened Prussian leadership with the help of the Zollverein, Prussia became
economically supreme in the German Confederation.
The 1818 Tariff Act and subsequent trade agreements stimulated Prussian trade and
economic development. As the Zollverein gradually extended the area of free trade
within its boundaries, Prussian economy prospered. In 1848 the Bank of Prussia was
founded to assist economic growth. It was managed by government officials, the
shareholders in the Bank were allowed no say in its control.

Analysis Of Irving R. Kaufman s Sentencing Speech
No one is innocent when his opponent is the judge. Lucan; Pharsalia
Section A: Plan of Investigation When Judge Irving R. Kaufman sentenced the
Rosenbergs to death in the electric chair, it sparked controversy that has maintained
the media s attention even a half century after its initial sentencing on April 5, 1951.
Throughout the trial, Kaufman did not remain impartial in front of the jury. In his
sentencing speech to the Rosenbergs, he made his opinion that the Rosenbergs
committed a crime worse than death very clear, which creates the question: To what
extent did Judge Irving R. Kaufman s behavior during the Rosenberg/Sobell Trial
influence the jury s decision to prosecute the Rosenbergs? To determine the extent of
his influence, the investigation will thoroughly examine Kaufman s actions during
the trial and their primary effect on the jury. The sources being evaluated for their

While there are numerous avenues today in which youth coaches can get their
training and instructional ideas for developing winning strategies, it is rare that these
teachings encompass information about the children they will be teaching these
strategies to. This paper will seek to help the youth sports coach better understand
children s learning and performance skills in relation to their given sport. Within
the paper there will be several different topics discussed in order to help the coach
see the overall picture of what motor behavior learning looks like through the eyes of
a youth athlete. The topics incorporated are: 1) growth and development issues and
the influence they may have on children s motor skills; 2) cognitive factors
influencing the children s learning and performing of various motor skills; 3)
children s overall control of motor skills; and 4) children s development of motor
expertise. Throughout each section, I will provide suggestions on how the coach may

both mass and stature occur for girls from ages 10 12 and in boys from ages 12 14.
Most of the growth during this time for both girls and boys occurs in their legs. For
example, at age five, leg length is about 45% of total height while at age 10 the

People can learn a lot of things from the past. As time go though the past gives us a
lesson to learn. History is one of the important element that taught and inspire people
to do great thing compare to the past. History taught us beliefs, values, and different
traditions of a culture, even architecture had an influence by the past project. From
the very beginning of architecture, people started to build a little tent using branch
and stone. After that people start to build column to support the building. One of the
examples that has shown the architecture had learn from the past is the acropolis of

I believed that the white house had a lot of influences from the Parthenon. First of all
we can see that the white house is build a bit similar to Parthenon. they both are
white and have the similar columns. But the the Parthenon is build more complexly
because it is specifically build for a temple and it is the time when the Doric order
began. White house was also used the Doric order to build the columns but more into

Water Vapour Is The Fuel For Hurricanes
A hurricane is a tropical storm with winds that spiral inward.
A hurricane rotates in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction due to a
phenomenon that is known as the Coriolis effect. This video can tell you how it
affects the spin of a hurricane. It s wind speeds that go over 64 knots or 118km/h. A
hurricane can be 900km long and can last a week. This phenomenon is known as a
cyclone in the Indian Ocean, but they are also named hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean
and typhoons in the Far East.
How Hurricanes formed
Water vapour is the fuel for hurricanes because when it condenses to form clouds and
rain it warms the surrounding air. The heat builds up causing low pressure to form.
The low pressure causes the wind to spiral towards the centre
Mulan And Molana Comparison
Since my research involves comparing Mulan and Moana, establishing the
relationship of these two films is important for my thesis credibility. These films were
not randomly chosen for a comparison and contrast paper. In fact, they were carefully
selected because of the relationship that exists between these films; they come from
the same filmstudio and are constructed with some identical elements. Additionally,
my research is centered on how these films are similar within the overall storytelling
realm and the Disney specific storytelling realm. Before delving into literature that
mentions these films specifically, it is crucial to introduce a theory that accounts for
why and how these two films share similar plot elements. In his book, Seven Basic

Funeral s Funeral
On monday I attended his funeral. This was the hardest day in my entire life, I had
lost my favorite person and had to sit in a cold, hard chair, and watch his casket
lower into the ground. He had a beautiful air force ceremony, with the folding of
the flag, and farewell son played on the trumpet. Hot tears streamed down my face
as I realized I would never hear his voice again, smell his strong Aramis cologne, or
be able to give him one last hug. No longer will I get to see him pull up to my
house in his cherry red Jaguar, or hear is over exaggerated stories at christmas. I
will never be able to cuddle up to him while eating his beloved spice drops and
watching PGA tour, as the burning fire embers die down. I will always keep my
memories of him close to my heart and remember his best days. Living a life
without my grumppop will be one of the hardest journeys I will have to go through
but because I live in the moment and try to remember every single detail of our
lives together, I know that he will always be with me. How I remember all my
experiences so vividly because I lived in the moment with him.I made sure that i
wasn t always on my phone when I was around him and made sure I was never
distracted so that I could give all my time to him. I know now more than ever that
living in the moment is so important because now those memories i had with him,
are all that I have left and I will never be able to experience them again. LBI is is an

Trade Imbalance Between China And China
In the 18th century, Chinese goods such as silk and porcelain were much desired by
European and had a huge demand in the Western market. In England, tea was the
most desired Chinese good and trade in tea was very lucrative. However, this created
a trade imbalance because Western goods had no market in China. China was a self
sustaining country and that make it harder for Western merchant to trade with them.
Apart from that, the merchants had a hard time getting into Chinese market and had
to deal through Chinese middlemen in Canton. At this point, the British money had
moved on from silver, but the Chinese were still using silver currency. In order to
trade with the Chinese, the British first had to buy silver for other countries and then

Several debates on opium legalization were carried out. Advocates of legalization
suggest that opium should be tax and it will reduce the outflow of Chinese silver. At
the end of the debates, Emperor Daoguang of the Qing dynasty instructed Lin Zexu,
a governor general, to abolish the opium trade. Zexu was sent to Canton and he made
some quick changes. He declared death penalty for anyone found importing or in
possession of opium. Zexu arrested over a thousand Chinese opium dealer and
confiscate approximately seventy thousands of opium pipes, in a matter of months.
The tipping point though was in March of 1839, when Zexu confiscated and
destroyed over twenty thousands of opium chest.
The British merchants were enraged by Zexu s action and demanded compensation
for their seized good. Initially, Superintendent Charles Elliot assured the merchant
traders the British government would be providing compensation for the seized
good. The British government, however, held the Chinese government responsible
for the seized opium. The British soon sent a fleet to China, with a list of demands.
The demands include compensation for the seized goods, right to trade without
middlemen, and an island to use as a base. Initially, the Chinese showed some
resistance and the British began their blockage. The British defeated most of the
Chinese resistance relatively easy and caused the Chinese life. The British moved
north and defeated more Chinese forces in

He has written many books that have inspired other writers to write and other people to read more. He has made many accomplishments that a lot of writers have never achieved. According to his biography, King has sold fifty bestsellers, and has acted in a few movies that are based on his books. The use of Suspense as a literary element is constant in books written by Stephen King. This will examine Stephen King s life and the literary criticism of his short story, The Two Dead Girls The Green Mile. In his works he blends elements of the traditional gothic, depressing and threatening tales with those of the modern psychological suspenseful fiction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Green Mile, The Two Dead Girls is a very recognized work of Stephen King s. The book series itself was so high quality that it has also been produced as a movie. This dynamic anecdote is about two girls who are raped and murdered. A man by the name of John Coffey committed the dreadful crime. After his trial, Coffey is sentenced to death in the electric chair, which in the book they called Old Sparky, that is located in the state penitentiary at Cold Mountain. Paul Edgecombe and Percy Wetmore, the guards watch over the men and women that die in the chair. Throughout the book, the reader is lead to debate whether or not John Coffey is a devil in human form or a different kind of being. Chapter 1 is part of the book which analyzes the thesis. In chapter 1 the author is describing to the reader what the penitentiary looked and felt like. Another significant detail in this part of the book is that King explains and describes the Green Mile. The last steps before a prisoner sits in the electric chair to be killed are normally called the last mile. In this particular penitentiary, the path to the chair was floored with tile. The planks on the floor had a lime green color to it, and that is why they called it the green mile (King Pg 85). King describes the distance for the person that had the bad fortune to walk it being a miserable long pace. The author also says that the look on the

After trying to locate a new route to Asia across the Atlantic Ocean, they found a continent they did not know existed. Three different groups traveled to the New World, starting in 1584 (Basu, Tanya). The last group included Gov. John White, he had to return to England to submit his report to the Queen. John White tried several times to return to Virginia, but it wasn t until a few years later he was finally able to return to his new home. They arrived on the outer banks a few months later in August, 1585 (Carpenter, Jeannine). They were the first English explorers to set eyes on North Carolina (The Lost Colony). Within days after Lanes return to Roanoke Island from Weapemeoc, he wrote historian and geographer Richard Hakluyt that they had: discovered the mainland to be the goodliest soil under the cope of heaven, so abounding with sweet trees, that bring such sundry rich and most pleasant gummes, grapes of such greatness, yet wild, as France, Spain nor Italy hath no greater (Carpenter, Jeannine). One of the islands they persuade looked like a perfect island to settle. In another letter he sent to Sir Francis Walsingham, secretary to Queen Elizabeth, Lane seems to have enclosed a crude map, its legends revealing a great store of fish and great red grapes very pleasant there (Carpenter, Jeannine). This island was Roanoke, ten miles long and two and a half miles wide. These were all reasons why the Roanoke colonists would have been able to establish a long term residence there. They returned to England a year later with two Natives, Manteo and Wanchese (The Lost Colony). With them they brought back plentiful information about the new lands they discovered. • 8. If God Knows What We Are Going to Do, He Has No Right to... If God knows what we are going to do, he has no right to reward the good and punish the wicked. Discuss The idea that God gave humans free will is one that is essential to the Christian faith. This is highlighted in Genesis. If we were to believe this concept consequently, we would believe that we are morally responsible for our actions. The idea of omnipotence logically requires God knowing what we will do before we do it. This is a problem with the idea of free will, as this may mean that we do not entirely have freedom. It could be argued that God has no right to reward and punish if he is able to foresee what will happen. In the Bible there are many passages which demonstrate God rewarding and punishing. The God of classical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hell not only seems to be a very harsh reality, but this concept also clashes with the goodness of God. This extreme divine justice is incompatible with the idea of an all loving and perfectly good God. It is written in Chronicles that He is good; his love endures for ever . However the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in divine punishment for their wickedness, Gods participation in the Battle of Jericho and Noah and the flood all challenge the belief of Gods omnibenevolence and therefore his right to reward and punish. An alternative problem to this theory regards God s omnipotenence. If God is aware of our past, present and future it is then not possible for us to do anything on our own accord. Omniscience and free will are clearly incompatible. They are many resolutions to this problem; although some thinkers may believe that free will is not possible and that this is only apparent some thinkers believe that the two different states of an eternal God is a solution. Firstly, God as timeless may resolve this problem as if God is outside of time it could be interpreted that he knows what we will do but does not cause our actions as he is unchanging and outside of time. Secondly, God being everlasting may also be a solution. If God moves through time with his creation that he knows everything that is logically possible to know. God may know our actions but does not cause them. This is an important factor as one attribute of God offers

Quotes From The Pianist To: Roman Polanski, Director From: Date:February 28, 2017 Subject:The Pianist Notes and Guidelines It is extremely important to take note that the memoir you are about to portray is one of the most simplistically beautiful and brutal pieces of literature ever written on the Holocaust. It is your job to continue this brave act of defiance, to retell Wladyslaw Wladek Szpilman s story to a wider, more modern audience than ever before. As Wolf Biermann explains in the epilogue, this memoir is so difficult to swallow that the Eastern European audience of 1946 were unable to tolerate such an authentic and unflinching view of the horror they had lived through, causing the memoir to not be published again until fifty years later. The film needs to offer the same stark reality that Szpilman selflessly gives to the reader. This film cannot be another Hollywood feel good film. The fruit itself contains up to 300 mg vitamin C of 100g edible portion (Tun et al., 2007). Although one may think that quite a lot vitamin C gets lost during processing techniques such as juice making, it was shown that 100 ml of guava juice still contains 76.2 mg of vitamin C. Therefore it was decided to use guava juice since it is easier to standardize. Even if the juice needs to be stored up to 8 days there is only a slight decrease of 1.2% in the amount of vitamin C, provided it is kept at a cool place, where the temperature doesn t exceed 4В°C (Jawaheer et al., 2003). In former studies it was shown that the enhancing effect of vitamin C on iron absorption is dose dependent. Only 25 mg of vitamin C were enough to increase iron absorption two fold, whereas 200 mg even elevated the absorption 6 fold (Hallberg, 1981). Therefore it was decided to include two treatment groups in the study design. These groups receive either a low (25mg) or a high (152mg) amount of vitamin C. To implement this idea into practice we take food technologists into account who produce a submission juice. With it we then dilute the guava juice with the high vitamin C concentration (152 mg/200ml) down to 25mg vitamin C per drink. The control group only gets the submission juice, which contains colouring and flavours to imitate the actual guava juice. Mung bean as iron source The iron content of mung bean ranges between 4 8 mg/100g. Whereas

Likely impact of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement One of the significant impacts of proposed changes to prospective reimbursement is that hospitals will be paid based on expected fixed rates rather than actually incurred costs. Hospitals will no longer be paid using cost plus basis (costs plus a certain percentage of profits based on costs). As a result of fixed rate payments to hospitals, there will be more incentive for hospitals to reduce costs and improve efficiency in order to maximise profits. The prospective reimbursement program will also result in hospitals not being able to recoup full amount of allowable interest expense. Instead, they can only recoup the interest tax shield portion of the interest expense. Investors
  • 14. Essay on Doublethink In 1984 What is doublethink? Orwell describes doublethink as amp;#8220;the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one amp;#8217;s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. ; In 1984, doublethink is the normal way of thought, and as a result everyone understands it and practices it. Doublethink is different from changing onesmind, lying, and self deceptionin many ways. Doublethink involves believing in the two contradictory ideas at the same time. This is different from lying because lying is saying something that is wrong and knowing that it is wrong but still saying it anyway. For example lets say you broke a vase. An example of this would be thinking that you are such a smart person that you do not have to do any homework or studying and expect to do well in class. This is self deception because even geniuses have to learn the material at one point. Some people, such as geniuses, may learn it at a faster rate but they do have to learn it. So by thinking you are smart enough to do well in class without doing any work would be self deception. Now that doublethink is distinguished from lying, changing ones mind, and self deception, some examples of doublethink will be discussed and whether or not it is necessary and virtuous for contemporary American society. Affirmative action is an excellent example of doublethink. Affirmative action is the idea of ending discrimination by basically practicing it. Affirmative action says that no matter how many qualified people there are for a job there has to be a certain number of minorities let in. Which means, in turn, if your white it will be harder to get a job due to affirmative action, because employers will have to hire a certain number of minorities even if they are not as qualified as you. This is to justify for generations of discrimination towards minorities by creating a new era of discrimination toward non minorities. This is a clear example of doublethink in that one is led to believe that by discriminating you can justify for discrimination. Interestingly

Citizenship, Religion and Society Policy of the United Kingdom Introduction Religion affects the way in which one of the majority of the world s population structures people live. Many mainstream institutional religions have experienced declining membership, retains power to influence systems of ethnics and morality. Also, religion has a strong connection with integration and migration. Therefore, Europe differs considerably in their responses toward integration and migration related diversity (Simpson, 235). This is reflected for instance in the time duration with which immigrants can apply for and receive permanent residence and citizenship status. Currently, Switzerland (12 years), Greece and Austria (10 years) are the most difficult countries to obtain citizenship whereas Ireland, the Netherlands and France (five years) have relatively fewer barriers (Lebrun, pg. 144). In England, the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act of 2009 requires a residential status of eight years before being eligible for naturalization. It also introduced a voluntary community service for migrants that can reduce the length of the naturalization process by up to two years (Faas, 143). In this article, it is considered how national identity and citizenship, and understanding of the geography of religion in the U. K, by Europe and migration related diversity, are intertwined at political level and what implications there are for future curriculums development. Regional Setting

Although mistakenly discovered, it greatly aroused the curiosity of many European explorers. There were new opportunities for them to expand, and in more than just one way. Zachary Hayes British Literature I Dr. Dunnum 10/23/15 In a feudal system, a peasant or worker known as a vassal received a piece of land in return for serving a lord or king, especially during times of war. (Feudal System) During the Middle Ages and other parts of modern Europe, through texts, we can see how feudalism played a major role with state and the government. Kings looked at it as higher authority and have more control over the knights, nobles, and peasants that lie within that system. Though kings have more of a physical control throughout these texts, I believe the queens have more manipulative power. In both stories, society all around Tevye is changing, but a huge discrepancy is seen that Tevye the Dairyman must stick to his tradition to prove something to external members of society, whereas Tevye from Fiddler is so adamant in his traditions because internally he cannot fathom going against everything he has believed in his entire life. A common phrase in Tevye the Dairyman s running monologue is What would my enemies think? Who exactly does he mean by enemies? Tevye sees his enemies as anybody trying to impose change upon his shtetl and his lifestyle. This includes the Czar, those performing the pogroms, or anyone else who is upsetting the once peaceful balance he saw between the Jews and the rest of the world. When Tevye from Fiddler argues the pros and cons of Chava marrying Fyedka, he thinks to himself Can I deny everything I believe in? How can I turn my back on my faith? If I try to bend that far I will break. On the other hand...No! There is no other hand! He comes to this realization because of what he has known his whole life, not because he feels the need to prove anything to anyone except God. In the engagements and marriages of both Tzietl and Hodl, Tevye adjusts his own interpretations of family values and tradition, but religion creates a different conflict. When

Change Management Strategies For New Merged Company For this merger to create a new culture, these artifacts need to encompass and be reflective of the new merged company, without favor to one or the other. Though removal and replacement of these artifacts may be difficult for some to grasp, while doing so, by introducing consistent rewards and recognition can be one of the first new artifacts, and can fill the void and keep focus forward, versus looking back to the past. Strong new programs also encourage if not promote further communication, and help build a supportive work environment that will foster a working network of colleagues. One last note as to artifacts; although founders, leaders, and company stories are valued artifacts, so are the people working here and now. Celebrate those with the new merged company; create new stories with new events, programs, and by starting new traditions for the organization. This gives an identity to the new organization, creates the new culture, and begins establishing organizational socialization. 5.Change Management Strategy. The most appropriate set of change management strategies to use for implementing change would be an appreciative inquiry approach. A merging of two companies creates a plethora of unknowns for all; the unknown is a strong threat to all that perceive it. Reframing the image of merging into a positive strength for all is more palatable, if not approachable for most. Appreciative inquiry typically examines successful events, organizations, and work units.

While there are numerous avenues today in which youth coaches can get their training and instructional ideas for developing winning strategies, it is rare that these teachings encompass information about the children they will be teaching these strategies to. This paper will seek to help the youth sports coach better understand children s learning and performance skills in relation to their given sport. Within the paper there will be several different topics discussed in order to help the coach see the overall picture of what motor behavior learning looks like through the eyes of a youth athlete. The topics incorporated are: 1) growth and development issues and the influence they may have on children s motor skills; 2) cognitive factors influencing the children s learning and performing of various motor skills; 3) children s overall control of motor skills; and 4) children s development of motor expertise. Throughout each section, I will provide suggestions on how the coach may tackle each of these topics when coming up with their practice and instructional plans. These films were not randomly chosen for a comparison and contrast paper. In fact, they were carefully selected because of the relationship that exists between these films; they come from the same filmstudio and are constructed with some identical elements. Additionally, my research is centered on how these films are similar within the overall storytelling realm and the Disney specific storytelling realm. This was the hardest day in my entire life, I had lost my favorite person and had to sit in a cold, hard chair, and watch his casket lower into the ground. He had a beautiful air force ceremony, with the folding of the flag, and farewell son played on the trumpet. Hot tears streamed down my face as I realized I would never hear his voice again, smell his strong Aramis cologne, or be able to give him one last hug. No longer will I get to see him pull up to my house in his cherry red Jaguar, or hear is over exaggerated stories at christmas. I will never be able to cuddle up to him while eating his beloved spice drops and watching PGA tour, as the burning fire embers die down. I will always keep my memories of him close to my heart and remember his best days. Living a life without my grumppop will be one of the hardest journeys I will have to go through but because I live in the moment and try to remember every single detail of our lives together, I know that he will always be with me. How I remember all my experiences so vividly because I lived in the moment with him.I made sure that i wasn t always on my phone when I was around him and made sure I was never distracted so that I could give all my time to him. In England, tea was the most desired Chinese good and trade in tea was very lucrative. However, this created a trade imbalance because Western goods had no market in China. China was a self sustaining country and that make it harder for Western merchant to trade with them. Apart from that, the merchants had a hard time getting into Chinese market and had to deal through Chinese middlemen in Canton. Several debates on opium legalization were carried out. Advocates of legalization suggest that opium should be tax and it will reduce the outflow of Chinese silver. At the end of the debates, Emperor Daoguang of the Qing dynasty instructed Lin Zexu, a governor general, to abolish the opium trade. Zexu was sent to Canton and he made some quick changes. He declared death penalty for anyone found importing or in possession of opium. Zexu arrested over a thousand Chinese opium dealer and confiscate approximately seventy thousands of opium pipes, in a matter of months. The tipping point though was in March of 1839, when Zexu confiscated and destroyed over twenty thousands of opium chest. The British merchants were enraged by Zexu s action and demanded compensation for their seized good. Initially, Superintendent Charles Elliot assured the merchant traders the British government would be providing compensation for the seized good. The British government, however, held the Chinese government responsible for the seized opium. The British soon sent a fleet to China, with a list of demands. The demands include compensation for the seized goods, right to trade without middlemen, and an island to use as a base. Initially, the Chinese showed some resistance and the British began their blockage. The British defeated most of the Chinese resistance relatively easy and caused the Chinese life.
