1. Epiphany Essay Ideas
Writing an essay on the topic of "Epiphany Essay Ideas" can be both challenging and rewarding.
The difficulty lies in the need to delve into profound personal experiences or insights and
articulate them in a way that resonates with the reader. Epiphanies are often deeply personal
moments of realization, making it essential to convey the emotions and significance effectively.
One challenge is finding a unique angle or perspective that sets the essay apart. Epiphany essays
often explore moments of clarity, personal growth, or sudden understanding. To stand out, the
writer must choose a specific experience and reflect on its impact on their life, drawing
connections to broader themes or universal truths.
Crafting a compelling narrative that engages the reader is another hurdle. Balancing introspection
with relatability can be tricky, as the essay should not only convey the personal epiphany but also
connect with the audience on a deeper level. This requires skillful storytelling and a keen
understanding of how to evoke empathy and understanding.
Moreover, the challenge extends to structuring the essay coherently. The narrative should flow
seamlessly, guiding the reader through the progression of the epiphany and its aftermath.
Striking the right balance between reflection and storytelling, while maintaining clarity and
coherence, is a demanding task.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on epiphany can be rewarding. It allows for self-
discovery and the opportunity to share insights that may resonate with others. Successfully
navigating the complexities of personal revelation and translating them into a well-crafted essay
can leave both the writer and the reader with a sense of fulfillment.
In conclusion, exploring epiphany essay ideas requires a delicate balance of introspection,
storytelling, and universal relevance. It is a task that demands thoughtful reflection and the
ability to convey personal experiences in a way that captivates and connects with the reader. For

Symbolism of the Mockingbird
Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy they don t do one
thing but sing their hearts out for us that is why it is a sin to kill a Mockingbird
Harper Lee Mockingbirds are only here to sing their songs and to bring us joy. A
Blue Jay is someone or something that preys on the week. Mockingbirds have to be
shielded from the Blue Jays. Although Mockingbirds don t always need to be
protected they do have to be protected from Blue Jays because they are gentle
creatures whereas the Blue Jay is territorial and corrupt. Mockingbirds are only here
to sing their songs and to bring us joy. A Mockingbird is innocent, without fault and
only here to help. To kill a Mockingbirdis a sin. (119) This is because a Mockingbird
is an animal that doesn t cause harm and has proved to only have a pure heart. Tom
Robinson is the predominant Mockingbird. Tom s death was like the senseless
killing of songbirds. (241) Since another word for mockingbird is a songbird, this
quote is telling us that Tom is like a Mockingbird and that his death wasn t
supposed to happen. The unexpected Mockingbird is Boo Radley. Atticus looked
like he needed cheering up I ran to him and said yes sir, I understand Mr. Tate was
right he looked at me and said what do you mean well it d sort of be like shooting a
Mockingbird. (318) Clearly Scout is saying that if Maycome were to find out that
Boo killed Bob it would probably kill him because Boo delights in being alone. Tom
Robinson and Boo Radley are the representation of the Mockingbird.
A Blue Jay is someone or something that preys on the week. Blue jays are
territorial creatures who destroy the gardens of people who live around them. In
our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black man s, the white man
always wins. They re ugly, but those are the facts of life. (221) Fearlessly Atticus is
talking to Jem about the white man or Bob Ewell. Since Atticus is defending Tom
and is going against the Ewells in court Bob Ewell is targeting Atticus and his
family. Bob Ewell is the most recognizable Blue jay. They have been the disgrace of
Maycomb for three generations. (30) Sternly Atticus is saying that the Ewells are not

a program were to be created, the programmer would have to know exactly how
each piece of hardware interacted and communicated with the system itself. Due to
this, software development was significantly more difficult than it is today.
Through the use of hardware abstraction layers in the modern day however,
programmers don t require all of this information due to their programs being
compatible with any device. Hardware abstraction layers (HAL) allow the
operating system to interact with hardware elements of the machine that said

more detailed hardware level. The main purpose of the HAL is to hide the

The Windows NT family of operating systems utilises a HAL directly from the kernel
of the system, in the kernel space between hardware and executive services in the file
NTOSKRL.EXE. Using this HAL, kernel mode code is made much more portable
despite having different memory management architectures, and different I/O bus
architectures. Resource management in an operating systems environment is the
controlled allocation and de allocation of system resources, for example; processor
cores, memory pages, bandwidth and many others. These resources tend to be shared
by various programs running on the machine which require them in order for the
program itself to run accurately, and also to ensure that the machine can allocate just
enough resources so that everything can run smoothly. Two methods of multiplexing
(sharing) these resources; time multiplexing, and space multiplexing. Using a
computer which has several users, means that the importance and needs of managing
and protecting resources such as memory, and processing cores are even greater than
otherwise. This is because users would have to share files with each other which
could potentially end in disaster for end user. Multiplexing (sharing) of resources in
the operating system is done in two different ways, these are; time multiplexing, and
space multiplexing. When time multiplexing a resource, it involves the resources

Starting in the 1800s, many Americans wanted to preserve the beauty of scenic
natural wonders. They went to the government and asked them to create something
called national parks. Responding to these calls, Congress and President Abraham

world s first official national parkwas Yellowstone when it was created in 1872.
Many more parks soon followed. National parks were created For the benefit and

which obtained 6,000 acres of Acadian land by 1913. The land was then given to
the federal government, and in 1916, the Sieur de Monts National Monument was
created. But Dorr continued donating time and money until Acadia finally obtained
full national park status. Acadia National Park used to be the center of Wabanaki

Comparable figures were not available for triplets, but the risk and stresses for
triplet births are much higher than for twins (6). Because multiple pregnancies put
more stress on the mother as well as the fetus, this increases the chances that the
babies will be born premature as well as with cerebral palsy. There is an increased
frequency of fetal distress among cases of cerebral palsy and death, representing the
increased antennal risk factors in the pregnancy (2). Multiple pregnancies are
becoming much more popular and common due to advances in fertilization
enhancing techniques. Higher numbers of babies are being born, producing higher
numbers of premature infants. The numbers of multiple births surviving the prenatal
period is increasing with the increasing survival of very tiny babies (1). Through
the use of fertility drugs, multiple births are producing more premature babies,
which in effect, increases an infant s chance of having cerebral palsy. When an
infant is born prematurely, the chances of it having cerebral palsy are much higher
than that of a baby carried to term. There is an increasing prevalence of cerebral

STRATEGIC PLANNING AND DISTRIBUTION NETWORK IN DISASTERS:

Prof. Janki Andharia In the last few decades we have seen the emergence of the
supply chain as a critical competitive force in today s market. By understanding
supply chain and fostering appropriate ties between both customers and supplier
humanitarian agencies and government can realize significant benefits in the form of
reduced inventories, lower costs, enhanced responsiveness and improved strategic
focus in terms of design, execution and capital investments. The term was first coined
in 1982 by Keith Oliver, a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, during an interview
with Financial Times. Supply Chain Management is still evolving, although it is not
new. Consequently, it has largely not been theoretically grounded, it is a concept that
has been born of practice, grown through needs and changed in response to various
challenges, threats and opportunities. Supply chain nomenclature is still in
controversy whether it is supply chain, supply chain networks or value chain
networks? Melnyk et al. (2010) noted a transition from the strategically price driven
supply chain to the strategically value driven supply chain. Supply chain design is a
rich aspect of supply chain management that goes beyond issues of

Every year, the number of Americans going on a diet increases. Surveys performed
by the federal government demonstrate how prevalent the desire for weight loss is
in American society. One federal survey s findings showed that 44 percent of
women and 29 percent of men in America were trying to lose weight on a daily

percent of Americans fall under the category of being obese, and 64 percent of
Americans are overweight (The Science of Slimming ( Cover Story)). This is a

Today, 500 years later, we still read and depict one the most famous love stories ever

very insightful meaning behind his intentions and literature itself. In the book Romeo
and Juliet, Shakespeare s mainly displays the theme the power of lovecan change the
way you act, through the thoughts and actions of Romeo and Juliet. I think
Shakespeare s intent behind this theme was to add drama and shape the theme to be
what it was meant to be.
The power of love has a great impact on Romeo s thoughts and actions from the
second he meets Juliet, to the time he drinks the poison. This significant theme stands
out in Act 2 of Scene 3 when Romeo explains to Friar Lawrence

Thurber had a troublesome marriage with Althea; Walter is constantly being
controlled by Mrs. Mitty. Because of Mrs. Mitty s nagging and imposing influence
seen in paragraphs 3 and 4, Walter is triggered into a daydream. As a world famous
surgeon, he not only is in control of his life, but the life of his patient. Mitty
cleverly adapts to emergencies like using a fountain pen to fix the needed surgical
machinery (The). Every time he escapes, it is because of a trigger, often through an
authority figure imposing on him. In fact, it is the clear distinction between fantasy
and reality that makes escaping a theme. The heavy juxtaposition between diction of
the dream world and real life is evident. For example, in the second daydream as a
surgeon, Dr. Mitty snapped at fellow doctors and nurses to give him a fountain pen
and uses fake yet complicated sounding medical terms such as Obstreosis of the
ductal tract (The). However, in the subsequent paragraph as Walter clumsily almost
hits another car in the parking lot in reality, he only muttered in response to the valet,
unable to give a definitive reply. The dramatic juxtaposition between Mitty s
spectacular fantasies and mundane reality drives the story. Thurber highlights Mitty s
desperateness for action through the drastic differences in scenes. Also, Thurber
distinguishes daydreams by incorporating much more imperative voice and literary
devices compared to straight dialogue in the reality. Thurber literally makes the
fantasies more alive and interesting than boring reality. Onomatopoeia is seen in 3 of
the 5 daydreams, ta pocketa pocketa... in paragraph 1 for the hydroplane and the same
sound for the surgical machine (The). Rat tat tatting in paragraph 14 reflects the
machine gun sounds Captain Mitty heard during war. By using onomatopoeia,

Fishing had never been a hobby until I considered until this past summer. Fishing
has an importance that goes way back since my great grandpa back in Mexico. My
great grandpa used to take my father fishing to a nearby lake near their home where
they would spend hours fishing for that night s dinner. As a kid, I remember my
family would take trips to the lake or rivers to have a family gathering and a carne
asada. This is where my uncles and grandpa would fish, but at the time playing
soccer with my cousins was more exciting. When I turned 13, my grandpa invited me
to go fishingto Lake Buena Vistathat Saturday morning. I immediately thought
tedious but decided to open up and try a new activity and at the end of the day, I
would have a story to tell my friends. Once at the lake, I asked my grandpa, What is
so cool about fishing and he responded, It s not about catching fish, it is about
relaxing and being away from everything and enjoying nature. Anyone can go to
the market to buy a fish, but can they have the patience to battle one and reel it in?
. As the day progressed we caught a couple of catfish which my grandpa took home
and made soup with. Although that day I enjoyed myself I also found out fishing
was not my hobby. Fishing is for those who have patience and don t dread being in
the sun all day. Flash forwarding to this past summer, my friend Froilan wanted to
go fishing after he saw some YouTube videos about fishing. After he told me we

witchcraft supplies the missing link and inexplicable situations lead to rituals,

experiencing that truth. Agreeing with this, Zande does not profess to understand

17. Legal Services Act 2007 And The Impact
Introduction This paper aims to explore the Legal Services Act 2007 and the
impact the Act has had on the role of a Costs Lawyer since implementation.
Findings The starting point for this topic has to be to consider the original
Legislation and the rights provided within the same. The Courts and Legal
Services Act 1990 only allowed qualified and regulated Solicitors and Barristers
the rights of audience before a Court in proceedings to which the individual was
not a party to. The Access t Justice Act 1999 made it possible for other professional
groups beyond Solicitors and Barristers to grant rights to their members. A number
of bodies took advantage of this including the Association of Law Costs Draftsman.
The Legal Services Act 2007 replaced the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 on 1
January 2010 and was implemented to liberalise and regulate the market for legal
services in England and Wales. The Act has encouraged more competition and
provided a new route for consumer complaints. The Act was introduced in
November 2006 by Lord Falconer Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs and
received Royal Assent on 30 October 2007. Since implementation the Act has
simplified and improved the regulation of legal service provision in England and
Wales and has created a framework for legal services to be provided. The regulatory
objectives and professional principles are set out in section 1 of the Act. The Act
allows lawyers and non lawyers to form businesses

age) consider race to be a stable over time. This concept is important in
understanding both the change in cognitive development of children as well as the
significances of difference in social groups as a factor in understanding race. This
controlled experimental study used white children ages 10 11, white children ages
5 6, white adults, and children (ages 5 6) of a racial minority. All participants were

I believe the design is very reasonable and it is able to address the question well
though perhaps within each of the four tested groups, the participants themselves
could have been selected from various socioeconomic groups (white children ages
5 6 from different socioeconomic backgrounds, children ages 5 6 of a racial
minority from different socioeconomic backgrounds, etc...). The experiment shows
an implication that although there is a cognitive component with developing the
understanding that race is stable, there is a great social component that is
presented by the difference between the two 5 6 year old groups. Is it because
children of a racial minority may be more likely to be educated by their parents on
the concept of race? Is there also a socio economic component to this
understanding. The article stated that the participants were recruited from the same
region though a region is ambiguous. It would be interesting to see diversity of
socio economic backgrounds within each of the groups (of course, new groups
would need to be created in order to test for a socio economic factor). Does the
socio economic background of a child from each of the groups affect their
understanding of race in comparison between groups and/or within the group
members? In addition, it would be interesting to further divide each group of children

23. Grendel s Flaws In Beowulf
Throughout his battles with Grendel and his mother, Beowulf shows that beyond a
doubt he is the strongest warrior in the land, yet he displays serious flaws in his
character that could have cost him that title. Beowulf is very strategic; the weapons
he uses, the location in which he battles even the monsters he chooses to battle are all
chosen to prove himself to be the best. In his first battle with the monster Grendel,
Beowulfeasily and confidently defeats his enemy, yet in this battle with the monster s
mother, he faces his flaws dead on. Beowulf always emerges as the hero, at least on
the outside.
The environment in which Beowulf battled his enemies, played a critical role in the
way Beowulf defeated the monsters and found victory. In ... Show more content on

The Bible states that no man should feel jealous toward their neighbor, in fact envy
is one of the seven deadly sins. Grendel is the manifestation of this sin. Being the
descendant of the tribe of Cain, it is written that Grendel pay the price of his
ancestors sins . He would be an outcast and like his ancestor, full of jealousy,
Conceived by a pair of those monsters born/Of Cain, murderous creatures banished
/By God, punished forever for the crime/Of Abel s death. (Raffel 14.20 23). Being
defeated by Beowulf, the Jesus like figure, Grendel signifies the destruction of sin,
the merciless destroyer of people. Grendel s mother did not symbolize sin, but
rather the consequence of disobedience toward the social norm. Women in the
Anglo Saxon days were seen as peace weavers and loving beings. They were a sign
of peace and yet Grendel s mother, in an attempt to get revenge for her son, attacks

ancestry, she existed outside of the stigma she would later face. Chopin, describing
Armand s love for Desiree, writes The passion... swept along like an avalanche, or
like a prairie fire... (Chopin). His immediate love for her, though described to be
strong, is written with a negative connotation. Chopin uses simile and this negative

Chopin describes Desiree s feelings as Armand shows contempt for her black
heritage and writes, A quick conception of all that this accusation meant for her
nerved her with unwonted courage to deny it. (Chopin). To Desiree, and society at
the time, to be of African descent is clearly seen in an incredibly negative light.
The use of accusation itself conjures images of a crime. She wanted more than
anything to deny it implying it would lend itself to a downfall. Desiree living her
life happily and contently until she knew of her African descent shows clearly
how the lack of said knowledge and need for acceptance from her husband formed
her identity. In a state of crisis, Desiree is described to have not changed the thin
white garment nor the slippers which she wore as she did not take the broad,
beaten road which led to the far off plantation of Valmonde. She walked across a
deserted field, where the stubble bruised her tender feet, so delicately shod, and tore
her thin gown to shreds. (Chopin). This metaphor shows her escape from the well
beaten path of hatred for a path where she can shed her societal status and ultimately
lose the identity she had formed up to that

Today, our world is in a very open and accepting mindset towards the LGBT+

the first state to recognize non binary as a gender. Even though we have these rights,
being LGBT+ is still a struggle in today s society. In Cut Both Ways, this is shown
very clearly in how Will s relationship with Brandy is treated with more acceptance
than the relationship he has with Angus. When Will is shown with Brandy, his

As I walked into The Center for Arts Theatre there was still plenty of seating but
there was a lot of excitement and noise coming from the audience members who had
already found their seats to watch The Nutcracker that was directed by Ashley Miller
Davis based on E.T.A. Hoffman s, The Nutcrackerand the Mouse King (1816). The
production was choreographed very well by DeAnn Petruschke and Ashley Miller
Davis. The costume crew Lisa Ivy and Brenda Linton also did a great job with each
of the actor and actresses costumes. I have never seen the original Nutcracker
before so I did not really have anything to compare this production to. This story is
based on Clara played by Tess Barborek and her toy soldier, the prince, played by
Emry Hunnicut, and their journey through the Kingdom of Sweets. The lights
dimmed and then the theatre went black and music started playing. We set in the dark
for a couple of minutes until the curtain opened and Act I Scene I begins.
When the curtain opens the scene is set with a very large Christmas tree and Dr.
Stahlbaum and his wife are getting ready for their Christmas party. Clara, wearing a
light pink dress and her brother Fritz, wearing 1800 s style clothing, enter the room
and cannot wait for the party to begin or to open presents. The guest arrives with their
children and enjoy games and dancing until one of the guest Mr. Drosselmeyer starts

27. Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis
The arrival of spring brings with it the blossoming of many easily swayed, naive
adolescents. In Zora Neale Hurston s novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God , Janie
(the main character) positively radiates these types of emotions. It becomes known
to any reader that the evocation of these experimental behaviors is a clear indication
of Janie s point of view on what loveshould really be like. The sheer fact that the
subject is so very reoccurring transforms this simplistic symbol into a motif. This
prompt shall discuss the reason as to why Hurston chooses to revisit this idea of a
pear tree in blossom whenever Janie experiences a seemingly familiar and yet
unknown form of love in the few men she meets.
The prevailing theme in the story would be Janie s many ups and downs when it
comes to how she confronts her inner self; especially when it comes to her
youthful vision of love. An example of this would be, She had glossy leaves and
bursting buds and she wanted to struggle with life but it seemed to elude her.
(Hurston 11) This statement fulfills the assumption that with all the coddling life
has done to Janie, she will consequently receive a more oriented and richer of who
she is. She is given time to explore herself, and as a teenager, she starts to come of
han age in which she realizes what it means to love in her mind. Her sense of love
is constantly brought up again and again in order to engrave the idea that Janie may
never be truly satisfied with the love she
28. Reflection On Christianity
Christianity Summative Reflection
Christianity is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus. Most forms of
Christianity hold that Jesus is the son of God. There are many similarities between
my faith, Roman Catholicism and my non Catholic, group choice of Christian
denomination, Jehovah s Witness. This branch of Christianity, Jehovah s Witnesses,
was formed by the WatchTower Society and also founded by Jesushimself. Learning
about a Christian Denomination has changed my perspective of Christianity through
the Jehovah s Witnesses history, beliefs/rituals, sacraments and how they spread the
message of God to others.
The history and beliefs/rituals of the Jehovah Witness branch of Christianity has
altered my perspective of Christianity in general. Since the beginning of the 19th
century to the present day, the Jehovah s Witnesses have brought forth a different
perspective about Christianity. The people of the Jehovah s Witnesses community
believe that Jesus is not the messiah, and do not believe in the Holy Trinity. They
believe that Jesus is not the one to worship because he is less than God too just as
humans. This puts in perspective that God is the Father Almighty and no other
person, or spirit is above him. Before learning about Jehovah s Witnesses, I did not
think there was this many branches of Christianity. I also thought every Christianity
denomination believed in the Holy Trinity as seeing The Father, The Son, and The
Holy Spirit. This topic has impacted
29. Technology In Dating
Dating is a form of interaction between 2 people who are interested in each other or
love each other to a great extent. In the olden days, men used go to the woman s

Tradition is the teaching and actions that our parents and their parents and so on,
were accustomed to during their time. Traditional values are something, which

eating out, mingling with people and taking romantic strolls with our loved ones.
Traditions evolve, but only to a certain extent. They have evolved because of the
advent of technology. We now communicate with text messages and voice notes,

This paper analyzes the different stereotypes that Saudi Arabians have on Americans.
The Saudi Arabian s tend to have three major stereotypes on American s. They have
informal business attitudes, they get a lot of their knowledge from the media; which
lead to inaccurate information, and that they are too liberal. The purpose of this

Capital Punishment is usually reserved for the country s most vicious and non

government, or the U.S. military. The most common method of execution is lethal
injection. Lethal injection is used in some states in conjunction with the less popular
hanging, electrocution, lethal gas, and shooting squad methods. But, in recent times
these antiquated methods are used as a backup in case of shortage of the drugs
required for lethal injection. Large pharmaceutical companies, such as Pfizer, have no

With the crucial shift in the relationship between the artist and the patron to the
ultimate change of demand between quality of materials and quality of skill,
Baxandall illustrates the impact of the Renaissance s resurfaced humanistic outlook
on art. Baxandall illustrates this major transition in Italian art by utilizing letters and
contracts used to showcase the demands of the rich such as in Florentine Ghirlandaio
s contract requesting ultramarine. The Italian Renaissanceis often attributed as the
major contributor to Western art with its Greco Roman influences and its resulting
humanism that oversaw the aforementioned changes of demand in the art world.
With a newly found humanistic emphasis on art, the West witnessed veneration for the

Before the contemporary concept of brand, art prior to the Renaissance age was seen
similar to carpentry. Artists were regarded no more than a jeweler, reflected in the
contracts common in the time such as the agreement between Ghirlandaio and the
Florentine Prior of the Spedale degli Innocenti. It seemed like the consumption of art
before the blossoming appreciation of art was ascetic without actually being overtly
religious; with Florence and other Italian city states ruling financially and the
Church cracking, it was logical that material goods was more favorable than the
skill itself. The contract entails an exact description of what Ghirlandaio was to
paint as well as an explicit description of the materials to be used and his
compensation. Such a contract was incredibly common in the renaissance; the star
was the ultramarine or gold rather than the signature at the bottom of the painting.
Baxandall affirms the process was made on a bespoke basis, the client [asked] for
his own specifications (Baxandall 1) similar to ready made art or furniture found in
modern day society. There was little room for creating with the exact specifications

Overfishing and nutrient pollution of the seas have brought increasing blooms of
jellyfish. These blooms cause tourist beaches to close, clog cooling intakes at
power plants, and burst our trawl nets, but leatherbacks are loving it. (Our Sea

ones. It is unbelievable how this unintended environmental increase has influenced
leatherback numbers. When most of the loggerheads migrated into the
Chesapeake Bay, it was because the food was disappearing and they feasted on the
bay s plenty of horseshoe crabs. Then, this primitive arthropod with no food appeal
to humans suddenly became commercially valuable as bait for eel and whelk traps.
(Our Sea Turtles) As the produce of horseshoe increased, their abundance declined,
and loggerhead left with more desperate to catch blue crabs. Loggerhead was

37. My Role As An Educator
Throughout this term, we have learned various models of teaching such as: Reggio
Emilia, Montessori, Waldorf, Forest, HighScope and Head Start. My role as an
educator is to implement a variety of learning strategies taught to me. As I learned
about each models of teaching, I still hold my bias towards the Reggio Emilia
Approach, but I also like some aspect of the HighScope curriculum. In my personal
philosophy, I will talk about what I believe to be an image of a child and role of an
educator. For instance, I believe that every child is unique in their own individual
way. They are viewed as being naturally curious about the environment around them,
are full of knowledge, creativity and have potential that they want connect to the
world around them by exploring freely. Children learn best through playing and
exploring the environment around them freely. There is nothing better that to get
acquainted with nature and exploring real life experiences. As an educator, we have
to recognize the child as a whole and base our curriculum according to their needs.
For example, setting up a rich environment where the child can explore, learn, and
grown at his or her own pace of developmental level. Thus, I agree with Reggio Emilia
Approach, that children should be given rights and opportunities to develop to their
full potential. They view the child as beautiful, powerful, competent, creative,
curious, full of potential and ambitious desires that interested in connecting to the

Chain.shifts.(870/1000)
Definition.(206/100)
According to Labov (2010:140), chain shifts is a series of sound changes, affecting
group of phonemes, which are causally linked in way that preserve the number of
distinctions. Chain shift is a balance system, and the phonemes within are
interrelated. This means that in order to maximized the difference among phonemes,
a change in one part will automatically leads to a change in another. This series of
reactions is called chain shifts. A famous example of chain shift is Grimm s
law.(examples?.grimm s.or.any.one)

There are two kinds of chain shifts: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labov (2010) states that the chain shift is a mechanical result of the language
learning process; and this process includes three stages.
In stage one, there is a tendency of misunderstanding between the pronunciation of
phoneme B and A, due to the fact that some outlying realizations of phoneme B
appears to be similar as A. This will make phoneme tokens of B less likely to be
recognized by language learners.
In stage two of a push chain, B encroaching on A, causing a major overlap. In this
stage, A tokens in turns will be mis recognized as B tokens. In this stage, language
learners generalize a position which A is pushed to, and leads to the output in stage 3.
In stage three, the distinction between phoneme A and B is restored, and the system
remains balanced.
With the same stable starting point as push chain in stage one, phoneme A in a
pull chain shifts away from B in stage two, leaving a more distinct gap between A
and B. As a result, the previously mis recognized tokens are more likely to be
recognized as tokens of B instead of A. Then phoneme B is dragged to fill the
position vacated by A. As a result, restoring a stable boundary between A and B in
stage three.
However, this mechanism only describes how chain shifts might work, without
explaining the reason behind this phenomenon. For

there were only a few buildings that were used during the summer as bars and

savor a moment instead so sitting back and actually enjoying or learning from it. A
life experience that we may all have in common would be school. When it come to
school students become bombarded with tons of books and work that they never
really get the chance to fully understand the true meaning. Many students are driven
to become the best studentthey can be . The author of Achievement of Desire ,
Richard Rodriguez, was portrayed to be somewhat like the students explained
above. He was so caught up in being the best that he lost himself and who he was.
This ties into some of the ideas mentioned in Walker Percy s essay Loss of the
Creature , due to the fact that Rodriguez may have lost his identity. In part one of this

At a young age Rodriguez would ask his teachers for books to read. The books he
wanted to read were above his level of reading comprehension but he still wanted to

still be satisfied with the fact that he could say he read the book . He wasn t
exactly reading books to understand them but, he was reading them because he
wanted to add more to books to the list of difficult books he previously read. In his
essay he states Most Books, of course, I barely understood... And by the time I
reached the last word , relieved, I convinced myself that I had read The Republic. In
ceremony of great pride, I solemnly crossed Plato off my list. (350). Percy would say

43. Scout Mature In To Kill A Mockingbird
When you grow up in a world where good and evil exist, growing up is really
important. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout develops to
become more mature, to be more understanding toward others and to grow to be a
lady.
Scout is a rude and hot headed girl, but mature throughout the book. To begin,
Scout learns not to fight when someone is getting on their nerves. For example,
Cecil Jacobs was provoking her and she didn t use her fists because she
remembered that she s not childish and that it wasn t necessary (Lee 74). This
proves that Scout is more mature because she walks out from a fight. Furthermore,
Scout is mature when she learns from her dad, Atticus. Atticus told Scout You never
really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until
you climb into his skin and walk around in it (Lee 30). She applies that when Jem
was all moody. Scout learns to have empathy for other people. All in all, Scout s
maturity helps her grow.

To begin, Scout learns to be a lady by her aunt Alexandra. When, Atticus comes
home in chapter 24, he tells Alexandra and the others that Tom Robinson died. He
was shot seventeen times. She was really upset and thought that it was unfair.
Scout saw a different part of her aunt and she says After all, if Aunty could be a
lady at a time like this so could I ( Lee 237). This demonstrates that Scout learns to
be a lady because she feels the need to understand the situation. Furthermore, Scout
learns to be a lady from Calpurnia. For example, in chapter 12 Scout says She seemed
glad to see me when I appeared in the kitchen, and by watching her I began to think
there was some skill involved in being a girl ( Lee 115 116). This quotation proves
that Scout wants to be a lady because she realizes that being a lady involves helping
around the house. All in all being a lady helps Scout in her

The Ulu Burun Shipwreck: A New Discovery
Our world is full of mystery. There are countless unknown traces from the past all
over the world and they are waiting to be solved and answered. Archaeology studies
the ancient human past through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts
and other physical remains. In fact, archaeology is the tool that decipher the clues that
are found through its continuous development of excavation and methods. The
advance of new technologies in recent decades enable archaeologists to excavate
previously unapproachable areas, such as underwater. The underwater archaeology is
developed in order to discover the lost shipwrecks and various ... Show more content

Thereby, both underwater and land archaeology should coincide information in order
to search for more accurate explanations. For instance, the connection between Ulu
Burun shipwreck and Egyptian civilization could be unveiled with the help and
support from the land archaeology. Although the Ulu Burun excavators found
material and assumed that to be ivory, in fact it was African Blackwood found in
Sudan, Mozambique and Angola (Bass 238). However, archaeologist could later
learn that they were the same wood that was used in King Tut s tomb by
supplementing archaeological discoveries from the land. As a result, they
successfully confirmed that the Ulu Burun shipwreck was associated with Egypt. On
the other hand, the increasing number of findings can often challenge the original
assumption. The raw materials found on the ship along with the various Cypriot
and Canaanite objects made it appear as if the ship was traveling from the east to
the west when it sank (Bass 240). However, the discovery of some amber beads
refuted this original thought. This particular amber was identified as Baltic amber,
which occurs in an arc sweeping across northern Europe from the Baltic south to the
Black Sea (Bass 241). His statement asserts that it became unclear exactly which
direction the ship was heading. This requires archaeologist to continuously

47. Chrysanthemums Sexism
In his short story, Chrysanthemums , John Steinbeck characterizes Elisa as strong,
passionate, and slightly submissive. This story taking place in the era of the Great
Depression shows the role of women in this Californian farming society, and also the
sentiments of women and how sexism influenced their everyday life. Steinbeck uses
those three adjectives to show just how the women of the 30 s were treated and
looked at by men and society.
In the story Chrysanthemums , Steinbeck introduces Elisa, the wife of a farmer in the
Salinas Valley in California, as a womanwho is about her work and is very
dedicated to her garden of chrysanthemums. Women even today, although to a lower
degree, are seen as the weaker sex and are supposed to be homemakers ... Show more

She tore off her hat and shook out her beautiful hair...Elisa ran excitedly along the

she became when he even noticed her flowers. She gave the travelling business man
a mini lesson to relay to the woman who was supposedly interested in her own flower

common interest as her. The mentioning of her flower garden by the businessman
was Steinbeck s way of characterizing Elisa as
48. Do You Agree That If a Trade Union Persuades Employers
to...
Trade unions can be very powerful organisations, however their power does not
inevitably lead to increases in wage rates, but not always. The power that the union
has can have a big impact upon whether or not it can affect the wage rates within
that particular market. It largely depends upon the financial status of the
employer. If the union is powerful enough to get wages to rise then it may not lead
to a loss in jobs, because it shows that the employer has money in which to raise the
wages of its employers and still make supernormal profits. A very powerful trade
union may be able to negotiate this rise with the employer, but it would depend on
the type of job, if the workers were skilled and difficult to replace then it is likely that

If each extra worker that is employed is adding to the companies output then the
business will continue to grow. However as soon as a new employee does not add
anything to the business then no more will be employed. This should not change if
the wages rise, because as long as the employee is adding value to the business
then they are worth employing, meaning that if a union does employ as many
workers as it feels is enough to add value to the business then the price of labour
should be irrelevant. If the economy is booming then there is likely to be a rise in
wages to entice new people to work for certain companies. This could mean that a
trade union forces a rise in wages because of how it views that the company is
likely to have more money than previously meaning that it could raise the prices of
its wages whilst keeping the same number of employees. This force by the trade
union could lead to a standoff between the trade union and the employer, because
the employer would argue that the workers were prepared to work before hand,
and therefore it does not see the value in raising its wages just because the
company is doing well at that point in time. The diagram to the left shows how a
trade union can force a rise in wages, but it could lead to a cut in the number of
jobs. If the union secures the rise in wages from W1 to W2, the trade union mark up,
then this leads to an increase in wages. However it also intersects the demand curve
at a much higher point
49. Coir Industry Essay
CHAPTER I
1.1Introduction To Coir Industry
The Coir Industry has been significantly Export Oriented and a valuable foreign
exchange earner. On an average about 20 per cent of the total Coir products
manufactured are exported from the country, mainly to West European countries,
United States of America (USA) and Canada. The products include fiber, yarn, mats,
matting, rugs and carpets, rope and rubberized coir. Unfortunately, the exports in the
recent past show a declining trend. Increased competition from other countries use of
substitutes traditional methods of production delay in executing orders are some of
the major reasons mentioned for reduced exports. Because of this, the manufacturers

Structure Of Coir Fibre The individual fibre cells are narrow and hollow, with thick
walls made of cellulose. They are pale when immature but later become hardened
and yellowed as a layer of lignin, is deposited on their walls. Mature brown coir
fibres contain more lignin and less cellulose than fibres such as flax and cotton
and so are stronger but less flexible. They are made up of small threads, each less
than 0.05 inch (1.3 mm) long and 10 to 20 micrometers in diameter. White fibre is
smoother and finer, but also weaker. The coir fibre is relatively waterproof and is
the only natural fibre resistant to damage by salt water. Green coconuts, harvested
after about six to twelve months on the plant, contain pliable white fibres. Brown
fibre is obtained by harvesting fully mature coconuts when the nutritious layer
surrounding the seed is ready to be processed into copra and desiccated coconut. The
fibrous layer of the fruit is then separated from the hard shell (manually) by driving
the fruit down onto a spike to split it (De husking). Machines are now available
which crush the whole fruit to give the loose fibres.
Types Of Coir Fibre
Brown Fibre The Fibrous husks are soaked in pits or in nets in a slow moving body
of water to swell and soften the fibres. The long bristle fibres are separated from the
shorter mattress fibres underneath the skin of the nut, a process known as

In this paper, I consider an effect of green roofs its mental and spiritual impact on
health of residents living in urbanized area. It is well known that natural open spaces
and well designed greenspaces provide a locus for recreation, social interaction and
community action and are highlighted as having a particularly positive influence on
health and well being. Given that urban green spaces are now widely recognized as
major contributors both to the quality of the environment, and to human health and
well being, an important question is whether this will move them closer to, or further
from, the goal of mental and spiritual health on urban residents. Aside from
psychological health benefits, the effect of environmental benefits of... Show more

was asked to answer a series of open ended questions about the mental and spiritual

Predictor variables explained 68% of variance in visual experience with green

variables explained 74% of variance in physical experience with green roofs. Each
responds are followed by subjective norms and attitudes. Visual contact with green
roofs and physical contact with green roofs together explained 62% of variance in
self reported mental and spiritual effect on green roofs. Having physical contact with
green roofs is significantly higher for respondents with gardening roof gardens or
farming roof gardens. There is no significant evidence of gender by treatment
interaction. There is not a significant effect due to treatments, after controlling for
gender.
I find little evidence of increasing psychological demands in green roofs, where the
relative importance of physically demanding infrastructures is unlikely to
51. Michael Newdow s Pledge Of Allegiance
I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic,
for which it stands, one nation, under Congress, the Supreme Court, the Declaration
of Independence, our founding fathers, and the President, indivisible, with liberty and
justice for all.
Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance in 1892 (Baer). He did this in the
memory of the 400th anniversary of Columbus discovering America ( The Pledge ).
In 1954, Congress added the words, under God to the pledge; this was done for the
differentiation of the United States from the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Recently, there has been great controversy about the words under God existing in the
nations Pledge of Allegiance. Michael Newdow, a... Show more content on

Placing God in the pledge was thought of as a term that could be applied to all
religions and creeds; thus, the word God would be describing something more than
just material existence.
Building the basis of the United States was the founding fathers of the nation. They
were not all necessarily under a Christian belief; nonetheless, they did wish for the
people of the United States to have morals and values (Williams).
On the contrary, some people do not feel that the nation should follow what the
founding fathers thought and did. Gewertz states, We decide to keep these sayings
or traditions in play just because they were the values of our founding fathers. I have
to say that not all the values of our founding fathers are values I want to embody.
Despite the fact that the founding fathers assumed the existence of an almighty
power, they also protected the right of the people to believe or not. Gewertz does
not agree with all ideas of the founding fathers, but he also says, the phrase under God
is in keeping with the intentions of the Founding Fathers. They anchored their
thinking in the idea of a higher law in order to ensure that all power does not reside in
the state. Agreeing with Gewertz, Cameron thinks that the founding fathers would
not be too happy with the way things are going now.
Furthermore, in recognition of the words under God being added to the Pledge of
Allegiance, President Eisenhower told of how thankful he was
52. Neanderthal Parallax, Hominids, by Robert J. Sawyer
The human race has achieved many impossible feats. We have landed on the
moon, illuminated the world with the electric light, and cured illnesses that used
kill thousands. In a world where we look to technology to answer all of life s
problems, we are faced with a dilemma. How can our technology possibly keep up
with our modern needs? In the first book of the Neanderthal Parallax, Hominids, by
Robert J. Sawyer, we are transported into a parallel universe. In this unpolluted world
that is populated by Neanderthals, there is a sophisticated computing system, we
know as a quantum computer. As of 2014, quantum computers are still in their
infancy, and have been prophesied since the early 1990s. However, work on building
a quantum computer, and creating algorithms compatible with one, began around the
turn of the century. As one of only seven sci fi writers in the world, and the only
Canadian, who has won all three of the top international awards for science fiction, he
is known for the amount of research and probable vision intertwined into the
technology in his books.
A quantum computer is a sophisticated computer device that can actually calculate
the use of quantum mechanical phenomena, to perform operations on data. Basically,
it s one of the few devices that can calculate the quantum theory. Quantum theory is
also classified as quantum mechanics, which is a branch of physics that deals with
physical phenomena inside of particles at nanoscopic scales (Wilczek). It

Jihad
It was once a word unfamiliar to American ears. But in recent years it has become all
too familiar. The actions of Muslim militants and terrorists have seared the word into
American consciousness.
Yet even with thousands of innocent civilians killed on American soil by Islamic
terrorists, the full significance of the Muslim concept of jihad has not been grasped by
the American public.
In the days after September 11, 2001, American leaders rushed to portray Islamas a
peaceful religion that had been quot;hijacked quot; by a fanatical band of terrorists.
One hopes that these assurances were merely tactical that nobody was meant to
believe them and that they were meant to assure the Muslim world that the inevitable

The Muslim Worldview
To understand the connection between Islam and violence, one must understand
certain facets of the Muslim worldview. One of the most important is the fact that,
according to the historic Muslim understanding, there is no separation between
religion and government what in Christianity would be called the separation of
church and state.
We are not speaking here of the secularist idea that the state should marginalize
religion and discourage people from voting their consciences as Christians. We are
talking about the idea that church and state are not the same thing and that they have
different spheres of activity.
This idea of a separation between religion and government is not characteristic of
most peoples in world history. It is a contribution to the world of ideas that was
made by Christians indeed, by Christ himself. In his book Islam and the West,
historian Bernard Lewis explains:
quot; The notion that religion and political authority, church and state, are different
and that they can or should be separated is, in a profound sense, Christian. Its origins
may be traced to the teachings of Christ, notably in the famous passage in Matthew
22:21, in which Christ is quoted as saying: Render therefore unto Caesar the things

54. Social Class And Social Work Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to Examine the extent to which social class
determines life chances in contemporary Britain, and explore the relevance of the
issue for students on a social work degree. Within this document I will identify and
explore key concepts and approaches in the sociological analysis of social
differentiation in modern society. I will then use these concepts and apply them to
contemporary britain in order to explain how social classinfluences an individual s
life chances. I will also discuss and examine the value of these theories to students on
a social work course.
Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological
thinking as time progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very
prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s where social class divisions were seen as
central to understanding differences in opportunity and life chances. Social class
has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status. (1)
These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx,
Weber and Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however
since it fails to explain other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality.
Although there have been many attempts to link these inequalities to social class, no
such connection has been found and other theoretical approaches have been needed
from the likes of Andrew Pilkington, Kathwood Woodward and

PMESII PT OVERVIEW OF JAPAN SGT RICART, GLADE SUBMITTED TO
Mrs. Young Hee Capelo and Mrs. Ruth Suh 11 JULY 2016 Introduction The United
States (US) is constantly looking for ways to improve relations with other
countries and to follow their National Security Strategy (NSS). To aid the US in
analyzing different countries, the PMESII PT is used as a formula to keep
everyone on the same page. The PMESII PT contains eight different variables
which help the United States analyze how different countries can affect their
National Security Strategy. These variables include: political, military, economic,
social, information, infrastructure, physical terrain, and time. These variables can
be used to help better understand the situation and most important aspects of any
country. Japan is a major country that can have a large impact on US relations and
build on the current NSS. Throughout this paper, the PMESII PT variables are
examined to help educate and show how Japan can affect the United States NSS.
After reading this paper, one can gain knowledge on how Japan can have a large
influence on US interests in the Pacific/ Asian Command (PACOM) region.
Political The political system in Japan is a Constitutional Monarchy led by Prime
Minister Shinzo Abe, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Japan also
has an Emperor and Empress; however, they are only a symbol of the state and hold
no powers related to the government. Prime Minister Abe was elected in
