Analysis Of The Blackbird Call In Grief
Death is a spiritual experience that is flush with taboo connotations. When a loved one leaves this
life for the after there are tears and grieving. This occurrence has been used countless times
throughout history to commemorate the passing of a loved one, this makes it difficult to produce a
piece of poetrythat discussed death in a way it has not been discussed before. In The New Oxford
Book of Irish Verse poem 67 which will be referred to as The blackbird calls in grief , poem 108
which will be referred to as There are three ways to await death , and All That is Left...by Michael
Hartnett discuss this taboo topic in new and interesting ways. These poems are distinct because of
the way that the author represents death. These poems are related and similar while being vastly
different.
The blackbird calls in grief is an anonymously written poem from the twelfth century. The
narrator of the poem laments the story of the death of loved ones. In the poem, the narrator
laments to a blackbird and mourns the passing of both their families. The bird is personified by
the narrator. In this poem, the death is of two families, the birds, and the mans. The harm now
happened to him/ not long since happened to me (Kinsella 85). An analogy is created equating
the loss of the two families and the injustice of the loss. The seventh stanza questions God, O You
who made the world, / Your bias is hard to bear:/ friends all around me are spared, / their woman
and young survive (Kinsella

Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report
This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle
cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular
voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution,
we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly
different from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of
the crayfish muscles at each concentrationwould not significantly differ from the Nernst potential,
which solely considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our
findings suggested differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately
predict the obtained values of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest
reveal instead that the membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I.Introduction:... Show

Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the
cell. Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective
permeability of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane
voltage to become depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions
involved in muscle membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via
passive or active diffusion through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The
Nernst equation predicts the membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only
permeable to one type of ion. In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how
different ions interact to produce the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish

Who the Fools Are in Gimpel the Fool Essay
Who the Fools Are in Gimpel the Fool
When reading through Gimpel the Fool , the reader asks who the fools really are? Throughout
this paper I will use the psychological approach. I will use this to show that Gimpel s character
grows more into a successful person rather than a fool as everyone knows him to be.
Gimpel The Fool is a story written by Isaac Bashevis Singer. This story is about a simple man
named Gimpel. He is measured by many to be a fool because he is naive and easily taking
advantage of; constantly falling for tricks layed out by the townspeople. Gimpel is also easily
persuaded by the townspeople; they end up persuading him into marrying Elka, who is known as a
whore.
The author s point of view is what he is trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he is right they belittle him and talk to him as if he were wrong, Gimpel would say Ah
you re kidding! (301). That means trouble for him; the townspeople came back and say, What do
you mean! You want to call everyone a liar? (301). Gimpel has no way of winning with the
townspeople. It is just better and easier for him to go along with what they have to say so he would
not have to have an argument. Gimpel also told himself that nothing is really impossible.
Gimpel the Fool is a unique story in which you find out about people and how they react toward
each other. In this story, Gimpel is not known as a very bright man, just as a fool. This story is
written in a first person point of view, the narrator is the main character Gimpel.
In this story the town symbolizes evil. The town s evil is brought out through the townspeople
with the way they treat Gimpel. The bakery symbolizes good; it is Gimpel s success. When
reading this story I chose to use the psychological approach. I chose this approach because of the
different type of personalities we are able to see throughout the story. Gimpel s personality type
is known as an introvert. He is not very sociable. When he is with people they always just treat
him as a fool rather than a person, this is why Gimpel chose not to be sociable. Gimpel would be
more sociable with people if they had treated him with more respect. All the townspeople including
Elka and the Rabbi were extroverts: they all

Irena Sendler
Over 400,000 Jews were imprisoned in the Warsaw ghettos. Tilar J. Mazzeo s Irena s Children
inspired further research. Irena Sendler was born February fifteenth, 1910 in Warsaw, Poland. Her
father was a small town doctor who helped everyone no matter of their religion. Helping others no
matter their religion was extremely rare during that time in Poland because there was a lot of hate
towards Jews. He taught her to be kind to everyone no matter what religion they were. Her father

should be reunited with them. Irena wrote down every kids name and where they were staying.
Sendler wrote down all relevant information in a special code on used cigarette papers she
collected, ( Irena Sendler, [World Biography] 2). Using code allowed her to know where they
were but no one else could get that information. But just writing in code wasn t safe enough.
These lists of names were then put in jars and buried in the yard of a friend s house at 9

Connecting Babylon Revisited, My Life, and the Life of F....
It is no wonder, that when students read literature, some are confused about the
meaning of the story or poem, know little, if anything at all, about the author,
and have trouble memorizing important points. This is not only because of the
limited time allowed, but because the student fails to associate new knowledge
with old knowledge. Making a personal connection is important whether the
instructor recommends it or not. Attention should be given to both the technical
points of the writing and the author s biography. Take, for example, F. Scott

The story s main
character, Charlie Wales, attempts to get back on track with the American Dream
after his wife s death, the stock market crash of 1929, and a difficult battle
with alcoholism. He becomes a businessman in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and returns
to Paris in an attempt to regain custody of his daughter, Honoria. Honoria is
Charlie s last hope of re establishing his family life, for she is still
forgiving and trusting at the innocent age of nine. However, the child is under
the legal guardianship of Charlie s sister in law, Marion Peters, who rigidly
holds Charlie s past against him, and her husband, Lincoln.
There is symbolism in the story s title, which testifies to Charlie s exile. The
image that Babylon creates is one of the greatest cities of the ancient world.
This gate of God was a religious center and place of exile for the Hebrews but
then became a capitol of luxury and evil (Baker 270). Charlie unsuccessfully
searches for his freedom as he tries to shed his bad reputation. He is caught
between his hopes for a decent life for his child and the carefree Parisian
lifestyle that caters to every vice.
The picture of Paris in the 20 s is not a pretty one. Money is definitely not an
issue and neither is health or the future of the soul when it comes to having a
good time. In addition to the

The President Is Not Bound By The Geneva Convention Summary
The Geneva Conventions are a set of rules ,for countries that have taken part in the conventions, to
conduct war by. They state how soldiers, sailors, POW s, and civilians are to be treated during
times of war between two opposing states or countries. They also show what is required to have the
Conventions apply to each person. In the article The President Is Not Bound by the Geneva
Conventionsin Dealing with Terrorists by Jay Bybee, a united states appeals court judge, he talks
about how terrorists should be treated under the rules of the Geneva Conventions. Bybee makes a
point to say that terrorist groups like al Qaeda are not a state so therefore the conventions do not

Bybee states that the Geneva Conventions are meant to govern what goes on in war between
two states, not between a state and a non state group. Even though Afghanistan has been a part
of the Geneva Conventions since 1956, he says that the Taliban that is running the state party is
an extremist group and is also illegitimate therefore it does not fall under Geneva III. Bybee also
informs that neither does the al Qaeda terrorist group because it is not a state so therefore it
does not fall under Geneva III, and the president does not have to follow the the same rules that
the Geneva Conventions require. Bybee argues that it is for the president s discretion as to
whether or not we can suspend the Geneva Conventions when it comes to any terrorist group. He
shows that many presidents in the past have suspended treaties and this is not any different. If the
times call for it the president can call for a treaty to be ignored. When the president is questioned
on his choice he is checked by the supreme court and then given approval. The president also has
the power to restore the obligations that are required when the state is back to its original form and
meeting its treaty standards. ( Bybee

Essay about William Blake’s Poetry
William Blake s Poetry
William Blake was one of those 19th century figures who could have and should have been
beatniks, along with Rimbaud, Verlaine, Manet, Cezanne and Whitman. He began his career as
an engraver and artist, and was an apprentice to the highly original Romantic painter Henry
Fuseli. In his own time he was valued as an artist, and created a set of watercolor illustrations for
the Book of Job that were so wildly but subtly colored they would have looked perfectly at home in
next month s issue of Wired.
He lived in a filthy London studio where he succumbed to constant visions of angels and prophets
who instructed him in his work. He once painted while recieving a vision of Voltaire, and when

His philosophy of Christianity was considered blasphemous, but he was never charged with such a
crime. However, he did express his critical opinions of the Church in both essay and poetic form.
To understand what is being said in such poems as THE GARDEN OF LOVE and The Little
Vagabond one must consider the poet s religious, or shall I say spiritual, position. William Blake
considered himself to be a monistic Gnostic. That is, he believed what saved a person s soul was
not faith but knowledge. Faith, he felt, was a term that was abused by those who thought spending
every Sunday in a church would grant them eternal salvation regardless of what actions they
exhibited outside the walls of the church. Church ceremonies were also dry, emotionless and
meaningless, according to Blake. Church was evil, as Blake would have put it.
Knowledge was cherished by Blake. He argued that through knowledge one can truly understand
Christ, and when this understanding is reached one can then begin to become Christ. Christ was
the pinnacle of what a human should strive to be. God and Christ were placed on the same level,
and God was not a clockmaker or some supreme being placed outside of human capacity; rather,
Blake argued that God is something that resides in all of humanity. Blake coined this Divine
Humanity , the potential for all humanity to come full circle and be humanly divine; this is
possible because God and Jesus are both living inside of us from

Pan s Labyrinth
The founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, developed a wide variety of psychoanalytic
theories that are often used to analyze a diverse body of literary and artistic works. An example
being, the Family Romance theory. It is an abnormal state of mind a child enters during the pre
pubescent stage. It consists of the child fantasizing that they are not the biological son or daughter
of their parents. This occurs when a parent fails to reciprocate affection to their child; consequently,
urging them to seek retaliation through imaginary means. The Family Romance theory explains the
cultural phenomenon behind children detaching themselves from their parents in order to gain
independence. It is a psychological concept featured within the family dynamic of Guillermo del
Toro s 2006 film Pan s Labyrinth . Pan s Labyrinth depicts the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War
through the eyes of Ophelia, an innocent child, and the magical realm she comes across in the
woods. In the film, it is Ophelia s lack of a father figure, rivalry between... Show more content on

Yet, Ofelia continues to love her mother unconditionally. However, Carmen s neglectfulness,
similarly to the child in Freud Family Romances, has caused Ofelia to criticize her mother for
disregarding her. As a result, Ofelia decides to detach herself from her mother. It is a task that
each adolescent must do in order to become an independent being. The fantasies and magical
beings Ofelia created allowed her to mature into an adult. In doing so, Ofelia is also able to save
the life of her younger brother after being relinquished from her mother s parental rule. Ofelia is
able to become her own person because of the many circumstances she was involved in throughout
the film. Had Ofelia not been neglected by her mother throughout the course of her pregnancy,
Ofelia would not have achieved independence as well as

Even though, the increase is small employees and employers are going to feel it in theirs pockets
and checkbooks; leading towards an already declining labor force and corporation downsize.
The tax increase is a bad idea as it can discourage those looking for employment and those trying
to retire. While tax increases are wonderful long term, the short term effects seem too risky to
chance during the tough economic situation we are currently involved in. Overall, the proposals
both seem like bad policies. Our young workers deserve to have the long term benefits they are
both working and paying for now, readily available at retirement and without proper reform that
may not come to fruition.
Although, compromise is needed to close the gap and create revenue for Social Security for future
generations, how can one morally stand by and take from another because of their salary or
increase their taxes and employer payments. Collectively, our lawmakers and economist need to
come together and think or the people rather than the numbers and focus on our morals, and most
importantly to help one another.

Southern Colonies Essay
Sports and games provided a much needed escape from the drear of everyday life. Recreation
was surprisingly unique in the Southern Colonies compared to the New England and Middle
Colonies because of a lack of restrictive religious groups. Though games were not as popular in
early settlements, because of lack of free time and distances between settlers, they became more
and more popular with increased wealth, larger populations, and a growth in towns. Games were
played to offer a relief from some of the grimness of daily life, to offer mating rituals, to express
resentment in a safe way, and to help promote village unity. Sports and games played a large role
in the daily lives of the southern colonists and continues to be seen today.

Effects Of Quebec Sovereignty
The movement of Quebec sovereignty, if it were to be implemented, would have substantial
consequences, not only on Quebec but also on Canada as a whole. For this reason, the movement
should be challenged. It is ironic how much of Quebec advocates for independence, yet the effects
would be economically detrimental. If Quebec succeeded in being granted independence, it would
need to negotiate with the rest of Canadaabout assuming its share of federal debt (Ragan,
Christopher). This additional debt, which would equate approximately to 154 billion dollars,
would be equal to 92 percent of the province s gross domestic product (Ragan, Christopher).
Undoubtedly, this would shake Quebec s fiscal stability. There is also the possibility of Quebec

Abstract
Arsenic contamination of groundwater has always been a major form of groundwater pollution
which is mainly due to naturally occurring high concentrations of arsenic in the deeper levels of
groundwater. Countries like Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Taiwan, mainland China, USA and
around 60 more are affected by the arsenic poisoning of drinking water which poses a serious life
threat to the lives of around 140 million people. Arsenic (At. No. 33) is known to be a dangerous
toxin that can take lives if the intake is in large amts. Also it is carcinogenic causing cancer of
bladder, skin, lungs, kidney etc. Water contaminated by arsenic typically contains arsenous acid
and arsenic acid and their derivatives like As (III) and As (V). Arsenic acid tends to exist as the
ions [HAsO4]2 and [H2AsO4] . Arsenic Pentoxide is the inorganic compound having formula
As2O5, which is highly unstable and more commonly found as As (III). Mainly these

Differences Between AMUL And Other Cooperatives Following The AMUL Model
The NDDB was created so that it could implement AMUL S Model in other states. Though the main
three tier system is common everywhere there are some differences between them and AMUL
which might be the reason that the other cooperatives have not been as successful as AMUL (Prasad
and Satsangi).
In the other cooperatives the Managing Director is an IAS officer unlike in AMUL s case where the
Managing Director is chosen from amongst the selected representatives chosen by the members.
The negative impact of this is that the IAS officer won t have that level of an attachment that a
farmer who was elected would have. Hence this would surely impact the cooperative adversely.
In other government cooperatives the government has a share in it. Therefore there are government
representatives also on the board of directors other than the Managing Director. These Director s

directors taking the decisions and one of the prime principles of a cooperative which is ... Show

How Did The German Disadvantage During Covert Intelligence...
Section 1: Identification and evaluation of sources The investigation will answer the question,
how did the German disadvantage in covert intelligence due to the Double Cross System impact
the Western front of World War II. It will focus on the time period of World War II (1939 1945)
in Germany and Britain and the effect of British counter intelligence on the course of the war,
specifically: D day, the V1 and V2 London bombings, tactical plans, and technological
developments. The investigation will involve the examination of military documents from the
time period and books using such evidence, including The Double Cross System in the War of
1939 to 1945 by John C Masterman and A Short History of the Second World War by Basil
Collier, relevant for analysis of the Double Cross System and its effect. The source, The Double
Cross System in the War of 1939 to 1945, was written as an internal government report following
the war in 1945 and published widely with censorship in 1978. It provides a perspective regarding
counter espionage in the immediate post war years but the censorship is a limitation, not providing
a full account. It originates from John C Masterman, chairman of the Twenty Committee, which
helped run the Double Cross System. This introduces a limitation as Masterman was influenced to
report more strongly on the organization s successes. However, this is also a value as it was
written based on personal experiences and often classified information. The purpose of

A Little Brief Background On The Family Farm By Sylvia...
Sylvia Bojcvuk, born to Alexander and Albina Bojcvuk on their family farm on January 19th,
1928 in Ukraine. Little did this young baby girl know she was about to endure a tragic, yet
adventurous life that would impact generations. A little brief background on Ukraine at the time
of Sylvia s youth in 1941 Germany and Romania invaded Ukraine changing the country to
Romania, then 1944 Soviet soldier s invaded naming it back to Ukraine, which seems to come
full circle to today with the constant battle of Russia attempting to merge Ukraine into Russia for
good. Unfortunately, Soviet soldiers have a dark history of raping many of the young girls when
they invaded Ukraine in 1944. Sylvia was sixteen at the time and her mother and father hid her in
their local farm, this constant hiding lead to Albina decided they could no longer remain in
Ukraine, which is the beginning of Sylvia Bojcvuk s pilgrimage to a better life. The Bojcvuk family
began by taking a train out of Ukraine, hoping to go South where both Sylvia s older brother and
sister currently resided, but the Soviet soldiers were blocking passage to the South so they had to
go west, leaving behind Sylvia s brother, Adolf, and sister, Eleanor. Unfortunately, Sylvia was
never again reunited with her siblings. Adolf Bojcvuk later died of brain cancer in the 1980 s, and
Eleanor Bojcvuk resides in Romania today in her ninety s. Taking the train west, the Bojcvuk s

Essay Legalize Stem Cell Research
Stem cell research should be legal and funded by the government in all 50 states. There are
several types of stem cells that we have available to use for research. The controversy comes
from the use of Embryonic Stem Cells (ESC) and how they are obtained. The funding is very
unstable for stem cell research due to the use of ESC, combined with the message they send.
There have been several arguments in regards to the right to life. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
clinics have never been funded by the government and that is not the plan for this research either.
Even if the research was funded by the government, the stem cells would continue to live on. Stem

Somatic Stem Cells show they are resourceful and have been in use for a very long period of
time, Somatic Stem Cells can help cure disease. Without continued funding for this, researchers
would be unable to find other cures, like the already in process bone marrow transplants. The
rejection rate theory is very powerful, being able to save lives with low complications; however,
if the research is not funded, we might not be able to stop the person from getting the illness
again, considering the illness is most likely in the genetic makeup of the individual. Three is a
need for continued funding for this research, at least until researchers have exhausted all avenues,

the Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cells. These stem cells come from the umbilical cord of a
newborn which generally would get discarded. Otherwise, these cords are frozen and stored in a

A Comparison Of Art In Wiggins s Of Mice And Men
The project this group presented to the class would happen to be a Prezi presentation. The Prezi
presentation was complete with descriptions and comparisons of not only characters, but also of
style, technique, settings, themes, cultural influences, symbols, art based off of the novels, and
some rabbit clip art. The art ties into each novel in its own, specific ways. The first piece, which
is untitled, shows white silhouettes of Lennie and George standing inside the black silhouette of
a rabbit. This shows how their dream, of owning a rabbit farm, was bigger than the both of them,
and that to do it, they would require help. Another piece, Of Mice and Men by Mick Wiggins,
shows the close friendship between George and Lennie, and how for the longest time, it was really
only the both of them on their travels together. Meanwhile, the final piece, The Departure of the
Joads by Thomas Hart Bennon, shows the dreariness of the Okies situation, along with a symbol of
hope for the future shown by the light shining radiantly from beyond their vehicle. Many of

within the country. Today I will be discussing to you all the recent history and expected future
conditions of the American economy. In the current American economy, we must concentrate on
the future. The current trends that are taking place in our economy are essential for determining the
future of the U.S. economy. Some of the trends in the U.S. economy consist of business cost rising

The real GDP is determined by using a price deflator, which can tell you how prices have
changed from year to year. How the BEA does this is by multiplying the deflator by the nominal
GDP. The real GDP is lower than the nominal GDP. When calculating the real GDP the BEA
doesn t include income from U.S. companies, and people from outside the country. They also
take out inflation. Then the final product is counted, meaning that if a U.S. citizen makes a shirt
and the outfit was made in the U.S. then the value of the outfit as a whole will be counted. When
interpreting the GDP it can be used to show investors which companies are growing the fastest. It
can help investors know where to invest so they do not lose money. So in conclusion, I hope that I
was able to give you guys an idea of what the economy may look like based on recent history and
expected future conditions. It s important to remember that our economy must be thriving for the
better if we all want our business to be successful. In my opinion I feel that if we concentrated more

Dynamic Stretching Research Paper
There are several factors that tie into aiding a great recovery; Mobility is amongst them. Mobility
is the ability to move freely and easily. The desired goal of continued mobilization is to slowly
increase the athlete s range of motion (ROM). This requires much work such as dynamic stretching
after workouts or just every day routines. Dynamic stretching has been proven to be quite effective
when it comes to maintaining health and ROM. For some Athletes, dynamic stretching may
require aid tools to help release the build up of accumulated lactic acid that basic stretching cannot
reach. This type of stretching would be one that the end position is not held, for instance, walking
lunches, and walking kicks. These techniques are deemed a form of SMR therapy. This therapy
goal is to stimulate the stretch reflex in muscles from applying a somewhat ridged object to a
pressure point, soar muscle, or just continued therapy. The desired goal of... Show more content on

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness, otherwise known as DOMS, happens when the muscle tissue is
stressed beyond what it is accustomed to. The stresses on the muscles cause microscopic tears to
the muscle fibers, which then lead to delayed soreness, stiffness, and discomfort making it difficult
to perform simple tasks throughout the day. DOMS would be the best possible scenario for lactic
acid build up, but in emergency situations lactic acid has shown to be detrimental causing cell
necrosis and in some cases death. When there is an extremity that is cut off from blood flow, the
tissues in that specific area create a lactic acid build up that if released too quickly back into the
bloodstream could cause the heart to stop beating. This situation is very common in crush injuries;
emergency personnel now have strict protocol to prevent this situation from occurring. Some
preventative methods and recovery techniques to prevent that surplus of lactic acid for minor and

The Alamo By Antonio De Valero Mission
Initially named San Antonio de Valero Mission, the Alamo is the pride and joy to many American s
and most Texans. While the battle at the Alamo is the most renowned event that took place during
the Texas revolution, seldom people know that there were a plethora of events that took place
leading up to the showdown at the Alamo. The Mexican government began to shift away from a
federalist model under the presidency of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The enhanced dictatorial
laws, including the revocation of the Constitution of 1824 in 1835 caused many federalists to
revolt. Many immigrants that inhabited the Mexican border region of Texaswere accustomed to a
federalist government and they were quite vocal in their displeasure at Mexico s shift to
centralism. Mexican authorities blamed Texian stress on American immigrants; most of whom
they believed had made little effort to adapt to the Mexican culture. In order to put an end to the
revolt Santa Anna began assembling a large army, the Army of operations in Texas, to retain
order. Most of the men in his army were generally raw recruits and possessed no prior knowledge
of synchronized combat. In October, Texans engaged Mexican troops in the first official battle of
the Texas Revolution. The Texans defeated the Mexican troops that were already stationed in
Texas. The last group of Mexican soldiers surrendered on December 9th after the siege of Bexar.

Romanticism s Sublime Style in Rip Van Winkle, Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Billy Budd
Sublime refers to an aesthetic value in which the primary factor is the presence or suggestion of
transcendent vastness or greatness, as of power, heroism, extent in space or time (Internet
Encyclopedia). This essay will explore different levels of Romanticism s sublime style in
Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle
, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Herman Melville s Billy
Budd. The essay will particularly focus on how the writers incorporate the spiritual and the terror
aspects of the sublime into their work.
American romanticism requires the wilds of nature to be the setting for the sublime. It is in this
setting that the protagonist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Longinus writes in his Peri Hypsous. For as if instinctively, our soul is uplifted by the true
sublime; it takes a proud flight, and is filled with joy and vaunting, as though it had itself produced
what it has heard (qtd in Weiskel 3).
Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet and philosopher from the 18th century, suggests there is more
to the sublime than a feeling of transcendence. ?The beautiful, says Schiller, is valuable only with
reference to the human being, but the sublime with reference to the pure daemon in man, the
statutes of pure spirit? (qtd. in Weiskel 3). Daemon is translated from the German
languageГ·demon. Schiller is suggesting that the sublime is more than physical beauty. For the
sublime to be meaningful it needs to include the goblins lurking about inside the human.
Like Schiller, Edmund Burke a British philosopher from the 18th century, also suggests the sublime
is more than a transcending feeling; it includes an intense feeling of terror. In his Section VII Of the
Sublime Burke writes:
Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain, and danger, that is to say, whatever is in
any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects, or operates in a manner analogous to
terror, is a source of the sublime, that is, it is productive of the strongest emotion which the mind is
capable of feeling. (qtd. in Boulton 39)
Schiller suggests mans evil nature should be included in the sublime, and Burke

The Effects Of Space Travel In The Movie Apollo 13
After watching the movie Apollo 13, all I can take away is irritation, several unanswered
questions, and poorly explained minute details relating to traveling in space. While some details
are easy to understand, such as the effects of gravity on weight and the effects of space travel on
the human body, many instances of scientific references are made under the presumption that the
viewer understands what is being said. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving
space travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident
sexism. While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the
tension between the United States and Russia in the on going Space Race , there is very little
mention of the sciencebehind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie
than a scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission
of Apollo 13. Before explaining inconsistencies in the movie s portrayal of the Apollo 13 mission,
it can be said that it had brief shining moments of informative narration. One of these highlights is
the references made to the ongoing fight between Russia and the United States over who will
conquer in technological advancements. The beginning of the movie really detailed why it was
important for the astronauts and scientists involved in the Apollo 13 mission to complete another
trip to the moon. Other small inquiries

Nonpermanent Members Of The United Nations
On October 24, 1945, the five victors of World War II assembled in San Francisco to draft a
document called the Charter of the United Nations, which outlined the laws of the United Nations.
This charter created six different branches of the UN. One of the six organs was the UN Security
Council. The Security Council was assigned the task of ensuring that international peace and
security is maintained. The SC consists of fifteen total members whom are also members of the
United Nations. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the Republic of China, the United States

What Is Stop And Frisk
What is stop and frisk? Who uses stop and frisk? According to Haq stop and frisk is a program that
enables a police officer to stop, question, and frisk a person for weapons (1). This means that a
police officer can only search someone if they possess reasonable suspicion and follow their
guidelines. People should have open ideas of ways of reducing gun violence and not closing
before hearing the proposals. People say that stop and frisk promote racial profiling and that it

city yet some people may think otherwise and think it s not acceptable. The practice of stop and
frisk is necessary to protect the people and to be capable to reduce crime off the streets; without
it crime rates like gun violence would increase drastically. In James Q. Wilson essay Just Take
Away Their Guns he argues that restraining citizens from purchasing guns legally don t have any
effect on those who purchase firearms illegally. For example legal constraints on the lawful
purchase of guns will have little effect on the illegal use of guns (Wilson 125). Wilson is saying
that it will be tough to find the illegal firearms purchased and people would always find a way to

The Cultural Analysis On The Maasai
To fully comprehend the connection between cultural, environmental, and increasingly globalized

society as a whole. Starting with the way humans acclimate to the environment around them and
how the way the environment affects the progress and functions of a culture. The societies that are

paper will focus and explore values she feels are important and necessary in the delivery of holistic
nursing care. Nursing as a Person A person can be an individual, family, community or all mankind.
It is the focus of nursing practice (George, 2011). Providing compassionate and patient centered
care is imperative. Maintaining an efficient nurse patient relationship is instrumental to the care of
a person. A nurse theorist that she relates this too is Hildegard Peplau whose theory greatly
emphasizes the importance of the nurse patient relationship. The nurse patient relationship starts
when there is a need. Therefore, through phases, the relationship is maintained. She believes that to

Southern Women In The 1930 s
The Roles of Southern Women During the 1930 s
Before the 1930 s, women were very underrated. The Great Depression caused the availability of
jobs to go way down, and men were no longer there to work and help their families. The men
were characterized as the breadwinner in the family, and the women were seen as the homeworker
that cooked and cleaned. After the men started losing their jobs, they felt like a failure because the
women then began to thrive. The 1930 s was a turning point for women s lifestyle including home,
work, and marriage life.
In the 1930 s, marriages began to go downhill. The rates of them occurring began to drop rapidly,
along with the birth rates (Gender Roles and Sexual Relations). The men were usually seen as the
providers and protectors in the relationship, and that they should be the ones that were to support
the family. After they lost their jobs, they lost that role. Without a providing husband in the
household, it was very hard on the women. These hardships began to get too much for some of the
women and men to handle, and that caused their marriage to crumble (Gender Roles and Sexual

The Magic Lantern Was Used In The Early Age Of Animation
There were many devices that were used in the early age of animation. One of them was the
magic lantern. The magic lantern was the first device to be made in the early age of animation.
It was created in the 1600 s by Athanasius Kircher. It projected images onto a wall. The magic
lantern that Athanasius Kircher created was a small box. A hole was cut into a side and a light
source was placed inside the box such as a candle. There was a curved mirror behind the light
source, and in front of the light source was a lens. The mirror reflects the light from the light
source and it goes through the lens and out of the hole in the box. If a glass slide with an image
was placed in front of the hole in the box, the image would reflect onto the wall.

Positive Differences To The Canadian Society
Through my post secondary education in Electrical Engineering, I hope to make a lot of positive
differences to the Canadian Society. One of them would be in the Energy sector, which would
make two positive differences to the Canadian society. Currently, the energy (electricity generation)
sector in Canada is facing a major crisis, which is the fear of running out of world s natural
resources to produce electricity. Even though the Canadian government is promoting renewable
resources, it will take a long time to establish a network that is completely dependent on renewable
resources. In the meantime, the population of Canada is growing drastically and cities such as
Toronto is struggling to meet the rising demand for electricity due to urbanization.

The Rights Of Prisons For Men And The Pursuit Of The Prison
When you think of the prison population, you think that inmates are either male or female. Well
think about these men that refer to themselves as being transgender. Men living and conducting
themselves as women. My query is, how do these transgender inmates see themselves in being
housed in a male correctional facility? Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgenderand Intersex (LGBTI)
Community extends to our prisonpopulation whether male or female. However, this essay will
focus on the male population.
In order to contend with homosexuality in the prison population; prison officials and politicians
have invoked laws to protect those offenders that identified themselves as either being transsexual
or homosexual. President Bush signed into law the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA;
Public Law 108 79). This law was created to protect not only the inmate population but, all who
entered a prison, jail or detention centers. The creation of such a law denotes that a concern does
exist.
In the article Agnes Goes to Prison Authenticity, Transgender Inmates in Prisons for Men and the
Pursuit of The Real Deal (Jenness Fensternmaker, 2013), deals with transgender men living in the
California Prison System. The lifestyle and daily struggle to survive as a woman trapped in a man s
body as well as emotional consequence of such a lifestyle is traumatic at best. These men not only
have live as women in prison but they have lived their lives as women in their communities as well.

How I Met The Meta Cognition Knowledge Outcome
To: Professor Gillespie From: Matthew Carrano Date: April 28, 2017 Subject: Writing 220
I am writing this memo to illustrate how I met the meta cognition knowledge outcome. I will
evaluate all of my papers by assessing how I fixed my work, and what I did to improve them. I
will be taking specific elements out of my papers and reflecting upon them by looking for content
elements and my application of delivery skills.
Meta Cognition Outcome: Doc 1 and Doc 2
I met the meta cognition knowledge outcome by the topics of the first two documents. One way I
achieved this outcome was by addressing the topic s audience through your feedback. To change my
audience error, I went back to see your comment, apostrophe needed but not the informality. ...

By including the word slippery slope more in my paper, I was able to give you a better
understanding of what fallacy I was identifying and explaining.
I met the meta cognition outcome by understanding the following content elements in the first two
documents:
Generalized Fallacy ex. I do not explain a generalize fallacy well because you write this point s not
quite clear why dies our generalize the capital? I need to explain why our can be classified as a
fallacy. In your doc 1 description, you say, look for personal pronouns, a general group (Gillespie
1). I corrected Trump s fallacy by incorporating the definition you provided us to clarified the use of
a generalized fallacy.
Faulty Emotional Appeal Fallacy ex. To change my faulty emotional appeal explanation, I looked at
your comment, this sentence offers broad info and is it even true? I needed to change my sentence
around because it sounds informal, and I did not explain the fallacy well. A Faulty emotional
appeal can be defined as an assertion, emotional appeal, nowhere is there any evidence presented
(Brinton). I corrected my error by explaining how Trump s faulty emotional appeal evoked emotion
and presented no evidence.

Child Policy And Child Policies
Chen, Come! Look at this! Said a boy during our class recess. He stood there wide eyed, trembling
with his mouth wide open. Let me see! Me first! Said another classmate. Before I knew it, I was
standing there with half the 5th Grade class staring into a ditch in dismay. There lied the dead body
of what appeared to be a newborn child. It was a deep, overgrown ditch filled with rocks and debris
along with a blood soaked quilt. It was 1991, in a small villagein northern China. It was a rough
time period in China a little over 10 years after the infamous One Child Policy was introduced. I
had never witnessed a dead body before, and couldn t help but stare at the lifeless body. How
could this happen? Who could do something so evil? As children, we never fully understood
what exactly happened regarding the One Child Policy. I heard stories of forced abortions, and
government interventions to female children, or those attempting to have multiple children. But
it was crazy to actually witness it first hand. I was a mistake; my parents always wanted a boy, as
did every other person in China. Everyone knew Chinese parents did not wish to have daughters;
they needed a son that could work to support not only himself but also his parents, as a lot of the
economy was agriculture/labor based. Females were simply useless outside of reproducing. It was a
simple concept, if you were only allowed one child, you chose a son. Ling! Please get up and get
ready for school Chen said.

Guilds Of Saint Luke Guild
Introduction
Guilds of Saint Luke were one of the common guilds in the history of the art market in Early
Modern Europe especially in the Low Countries, which played a significant role in the history of
art. To understand the social and economic effects on art we come across with guilds especially in
the art field, St. Luke guild, which was established in many Dutch cities to protect the right of
painters by making regulations.
By 1829 nothing was left from prior mid 18th century (1750), possibly as a result of destroying
documents in the Weighing House the chamber of the Guild of Saint Luke (the Waag , in
Amsterdam) where the guilds archives were being kept . (Eeghen, 2012, pp1)

The Dutch economic boom provided a demand for luxury items like paintings. (Price, 2012, pp104)
A vast number of paintings in Holland were painted in the 17th century. (Price, 2012). In 1609,
after the Twelve Years Truce, borders were opened to imported products from the south including
paintings which sometimes were poor quality and high volume. Therefore new guilds of St Luke
or similar organisations were established in Gouda and Rotterdam in 1609 and in Delft and Utrecht
in 1611. These four guilds aimed first and foremost to protect indigenous painters against imports
from the South. (Stephen, 2008, pp152 153). Craft guilds helped improving production and
productivity by more complex products and applying new technology . (Epstein and Prak, 2008,
pp25)
Guild of Saint Luke
They were named in honor of one of the four evangelists who was also painter and doctor.
III: Saint Luke, Attributed to Theodoric Prague
In 1579 Saint Luke separated from the Onze Lieve Vrouwe or guild of stonemasons. (Eeghen,
2012, pp2) The guild of Saint Luke was established in many Dutch towns to control the market.
They were very important and set some regulations to control the market, becoming a member and
administration, in addition to training new artists. (Prak,pp152 153) For instance, only citizens

Liar s Poker Summary
Liar s Poker
Written by Michael Lewis, Liar s Poker describes his experience as a bond salesman in the Wall
Street trading firm Salomon Brothers during the decade of 1980s.
Chapter 1 Liars Poker The Game
John Gutfreund and John Meriwether were the two heavyweights of the trading firm Salomon
Brothers, former was the chairman and the CEO of the firm and was regarded as the King of the
Wall Street by the press while the latter was on the board of the firm and the King of the game,
Liar s Poker, and was regarded as the Best trader on the Wall Street. Lewis described Gutfreund as
a very shrewd businessman, who has a sixth sense to smell the money being lost and had the
uncanny habit of walking around the floor, asking questions to the traders. His ... Show more

This act of Gutfreund created a furore among the traders on the floor. Everyone knew that the
Meriwether was the undisputed king of the game, he was always discussed among the traders with
awe and admiration. Every other trading firm on the Wall Street, has its version of the Liar s Poker
game, which was synonymous to the bond trading. It involve risk, ability to judge the other
person s emotions, ability to hide one s own emotions of greed and fear and numbers. But the
presence of Meriwether had made the Liar s Poker on the trading firm of the Salomon Brothers
most talked about. The game is similar to I Doubt It game of the cards, it involved as less as
two, and maximum ten players standing in a circle holding one dollar bill, any of the player can
start the bid as three fives , meaning that taking together all the serial numbers of the dollar bill
from all the players the random numbers will have at least three fives. In this manner the bid will

Key Ratios Such As Profitability, Liquidity, Debt...
Objective 5:
In this we are going to analyze important key ratios such as profitability, liquidity, debt management,
asset management.
Profitability:
Source: Morning Star Investment Research center.
From the tabular column we could see that tax rate has been growing each year starting from
2005. In 2014 tax rate reached 34.55%. Normally if tax rate increases, the net margin tends to
decrease. But in the case of American express (NYSE:AXP) the net margin has been increasing
each year starting from 2005 to 2014. In 2014 it reached 17.16%. This implies either the revenue
has been increasing or company is decreasing its operating expenses. We could also see increase
on return on assets. In 2014 it reached 3.77%. So we can infer that each year the return on assets is
increasing which is a good sign. Financial leverage means the company used debt in the process to
acquire new assets. As this has been on a decreasing note i.e. in 2014 it is 7.7, this means the
company s liability is decreasing. Investors usually prefer a company that has minimal debts. Now
we consider return on equity, each year return on equity is increasing. Investors would be happy
because there investment is getting appreciated. Based on profitability ratios, stock has a tendency
to do well in the future.
Liquidity:

Analysis Of Delta Air Lines
Delta Air Lines is a global airline, one of the largest worldwide. According to SkyTeam (2009), a
worldwide alliance management team of ten members, the founding member Delta serves about
928 destinations in about 174 countries; with approximately 455 million customers annually and
offers 15,955 plus daily flights...as well as, code sharing (airline networks consisting of selling
tickets of a partnered airline team) .
In this paper, we will venture into the globalization of Delta Air Lines and understand if they are
just a global corporation or if they carry a worldly mind set as a strategic management strategy.
Gosling Mintzberg (2003) paraphrase T.S. Eliot s famous words should we not explore ceasingly
in order to return home and know the place for the first time as a definition of worldly mind set (p.
59). Do other people s circumstances, habits, and cultures influence our management strategy in the
way we do business? Delta Air Lines uniforms meet industry standard. Although, they customize
them, they need to take into the account of other cultures behaviors as to the level of acceptability
or circumstances as to whether or not the uniform will offend clients and not make them feel
comfortable in the service they receive from Delta Air Lines as a home service to that specific
cultures acceptability. Training throughout Delta Air Lines customer service diversity training by
region and division enhances the specifics as to the particular worldly mind set and adapt

The Dangers Of Fast Food Advertising
Fast food advertisements can be found around the world, on newspapers, television, and even
online. Children, teenagers, and parents have seen marketing focused on fast food. While adults
may think little about such blatant advertising tactics that are solely designed to attract new
customers, how are kids affected? People across the United States worry about the ever increasing
obesity rates amongst children in recent years. A common explanation is the spike in popularity of
fast food. Most kids and teenagers have eaten fast food at least once in their lifetime. But why has
fast food gotten increasingly popular recently? Fast food has always been known to be very
unhealthy, but kids still consume it anyway. The culprit: fast food advertising. In modern times, the
majority of kids living in the United States have access to the internet or television, where they are
easy targets for advertising. To prevent the nation from growing up obese, fast food companies
should end all ad campaigns targeted towards children and focus advertising strictly on adults.
These advertisements cause kids to consume fast food more often, to eat an unhealthy diet, and to
grow up in a culture dependent on fast food.
Most people will agree that, in the current generation, kids eat a lot of fast food. Considerably
more than ever, kids regularly ask their parents to take them to a fast food joint. Based on
information from Study: Fast Food Ads Target Kids with Unhealthy Food, and It Works , by

The Importance Of Language In Education
It was during the 1800s that a decision was taken which had ended up being the turning point for
the language in education scenario in India and changed the orientation of language priority in
Indian education. The decision was taken to ignore the vernacular medium education and
concentrate entirely on English as the single language for instruction (Paranjpe Prasad,
2010)(Sridhar, 1989). It was made clear that those who had attained educationin English would be
preferred over the vernacular educated class. English had become the language of higher education
and with the establishment of the prestigious universities in the major cities like Bombay, Calcutta,
Madras, Lahore, Allahabad and Punjab, English had achieved its supremacy (Sridhar, 1989)
(Krishnaswamy Krishnaswamy, 2006). From this point onwards education came to be equated with
English education and those who studied in vernacular medium were put permanently in the
background (Sridhar, 1989), a mindset prevalent in the mind of Indians even today. Despite the
changes which were made in the language policies in the 1900s to make space for vernacular
languages in the educational setting did not meet with the expected success (Krishnaswamy
Krishnaswamy, 2006) (Sridhar, 1989). By 1970s and 1980s about one third of the Indiahad its
schools using English as their medium of instruction (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010). Hence the language
in education policy during the colonial era had created two different media of

  • 2. Analysis Of The Blackbird Call In Grief Death is a spiritual experience that is flush with taboo connotations. When a loved one leaves this life for the after there are tears and grieving. This occurrence has been used countless times throughout history to commemorate the passing of a loved one, this makes it difficult to produce a piece of poetrythat discussed death in a way it has not been discussed before. In The New Oxford Book of Irish Verse poem 67 which will be referred to as The blackbird calls in grief , poem 108 which will be referred to as There are three ways to await death , and All That is Left...by Michael Hartnett discuss this taboo topic in new and interesting ways. These poems are distinct because of the way that the author represents death. These poems are related and similar while being vastly different. The blackbird calls in grief is an anonymously written poem from the twelfth century. The narrator of the poem laments the story of the death of loved ones. In the poem, the narrator laments to a blackbird and mourns the passing of both their families. The bird is personified by the narrator. In this poem, the death is of two families, the birds, and the mans. The harm now happened to him/ not long since happened to me (Kinsella 85). An analogy is created equating the loss of the two families and the injustice of the loss. The seventh stanza questions God, O You who made the world, / Your bias is hard to bear:/ friends all around me are spared, / their woman and young survive (Kinsella ... • 3. Resting Membrane Potential Of Orconectes Lab Report This experiment seeks to analyze how the resting membrane potential of Orconectes rusticus muscle cells changes in response to increasing [K+]o solution concentrations. By recording the intracellular voltage of the DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle cells at six concentrations of [K+]o solution, we determined whether the observed resting membrane potentials (Vrest) were significantly different from the predicted Nernst equilibrium potential values. We hypothesized that the Vrest of the crayfish muscles at each concentrationwould not significantly differ from the Nernst potential, which solely considers the permeability of potassium ions to the cell membrane. However, our findings suggested differently, and results indicated that the Nernst equation did not accurately predict the obtained values of the resting membrane potential. The differences in muscle cell Vrest reveal instead that the membrane is differentially permeable to other ions. I.Introduction:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both electrical and chemical forces combine to determine the resting membrane potential of the cell. Although the resting membrane potential of most cells is normally negative, the selective permeability of the membrane allows certain ions in and out, causing the neuronal membrane voltage to become depolarized (more positive), or hyperpolarized (more negative). Key ions involved in muscle membrane potential are sodium, potassium, and chloride, which move via passive or active diffusion through ion channels and transporter pumps (Baierlein et al. 2011). The Nernst equation predicts the membrane voltage based on the assumption that the membrane is only permeable to one type of ion. In this investigation, we are seeking to understand the basis for how different ions interact to produce the membrane potential of DEM, DEL1, and DEL2 crayfish muscle ... • 6. Who the Fools Are in Gimpel the Fool Essay Who the Fools Are in Gimpel the Fool When reading through Gimpel the Fool , the reader asks who the fools really are? Throughout this paper I will use the psychological approach. I will use this to show that Gimpel s character grows more into a successful person rather than a fool as everyone knows him to be. Gimpel The Fool is a story written by Isaac Bashevis Singer. This story is about a simple man named Gimpel. He is measured by many to be a fool because he is naive and easily taking advantage of; constantly falling for tricks layed out by the townspeople. Gimpel is also easily persuaded by the townspeople; they end up persuading him into marrying Elka, who is known as a whore. The author s point of view is what he is trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he is right they belittle him and talk to him as if he were wrong, Gimpel would say Ah you re kidding! (301). That means trouble for him; the townspeople came back and say, What do you mean! You want to call everyone a liar? (301). Gimpel has no way of winning with the townspeople. It is just better and easier for him to go along with what they have to say so he would not have to have an argument. Gimpel also told himself that nothing is really impossible. Gimpel the Fool is a unique story in which you find out about people and how they react toward each other. In this story, Gimpel is not known as a very bright man, just as a fool. This story is written in a first person point of view, the narrator is the main character Gimpel. In this story the town symbolizes evil. The town s evil is brought out through the townspeople with the way they treat Gimpel. The bakery symbolizes good; it is Gimpel s success. When reading this story I chose to use the psychological approach. I chose this approach because of the different type of personalities we are able to see throughout the story. Gimpel s personality type is known as an introvert. He is not very sociable. When he is with people they always just treat him as a fool rather than a person, this is why Gimpel chose not to be sociable. Gimpel would be more sociable with people if they had treated him with more respect. All the townspeople including Elka and the Rabbi were extroverts: they all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is no wonder, that when students read literature, some are confused about the meaning of the story or poem, know little, if anything at all, about the author, and have trouble memorizing important points. This is not only because of the limited time allowed, but because the student fails to associate new knowledge with old knowledge. Making a personal connection is important whether the instructor recommends it or not. Attention should be given to both the technical points of the writing and the author s biography. They also show what is required to have the Conventions apply to each person. In the article The President Is Not Bound by the Geneva Conventionsin Dealing with Terrorists by Jay Bybee, a united states appeals court judge, he talks about how terrorists should be treated under the rules of the Geneva Conventions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bybee states that the Geneva Conventions are meant to govern what goes on in war between two states, not between a state and a non state group. Even though Afghanistan has been a part of the Geneva Conventions since 1956, he says that the Taliban that is running the state party is an extremist group and is also illegitimate therefore it does not fall under Geneva III. Bybee also informs that neither does the al Qaeda terrorist group because it is not a state so therefore it does not fall under Geneva III, and the president does not have to follow the the same rules that the Geneva Conventions require. Bybee argues that it is for the president s discretion as to whether or not we can suspend the Geneva Conventions when it comes to any terrorist group. He shows that many presidents in the past have suspended treaties and this is not any different. If the times call for it the president can call for a treaty to be ignored. When the president is questioned on his choice he is checked by the supreme court and then given approval. The president also has the power to restore the obligations that are required when the state is back to its original form and meeting its treaty standards. ( Bybee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay about William Blake’s Poetry William Blake s Poetry William Blake was one of those 19th century figures who could have and should have been beatniks, along with Rimbaud, Verlaine, Manet, Cezanne and Whitman. He began his career as an engraver and artist, and was an apprentice to the highly original Romantic painter Henry Fuseli. In his own time he was valued as an artist, and created a set of watercolor illustrations for the Book of Job that were so wildly but subtly colored they would have looked perfectly at home in next month s issue of Wired. His philosophy of Christianity was considered blasphemous, but he was never charged with such a crime. However, he did express his critical opinions of the Church in both essay and poetic form. To understand what is being said in such poems as THE GARDEN OF LOVE and The Little Vagabond one must consider the poet s religious, or shall I say spiritual, position. William Blake considered himself to be a monistic Gnostic. That is, he believed what saved a person s soul was not faith but knowledge. Faith, he felt, was a term that was abused by those who thought spending every Sunday in a church would grant them eternal salvation regardless of what actions they exhibited outside the walls of the church. Church ceremonies were also dry, emotionless and meaningless, according to Blake. Church was evil, as Blake would have put it. Knowledge was cherished by Blake. He argued that through knowledge one can truly understand Christ, and when this understanding is reached one can then begin to become Christ. Christ was the pinnacle of what a human should strive to be. God and Christ were placed on the same level, and God was not a clockmaker or some supreme being placed outside of human capacity; rather, Blake argued that God is something that resides in all of humanity. Blake coined this Divine Humanity , the potential for all humanity to come full circle and be humanly divine; this is possible because God and Jesus are both living inside of us from ... An example being, the Family Romance theory. It is an abnormal state of mind a child enters during the pre pubescent stage. It consists of the child fantasizing that they are not the biological son or daughter of their parents. This occurs when a parent fails to reciprocate affection to their child; consequently, urging them to seek retaliation through imaginary means. The Family Romance theory explains the cultural phenomenon behind children detaching themselves from their parents in order to gain independence. It is a psychological concept featured within the family dynamic of Guillermo del Toro s 2006 film Pan s Labyrinth . Recreation was surprisingly unique in the Southern Colonies compared to the New England and Middle Colonies because of a lack of restrictive religious groups. Though games were not as popular in early settlements, because of lack of free time and distances between settlers, they became more and more popular with increased wealth, larger populations, and a growth in towns. Games were played to offer a relief from some of the grimness of daily life, to offer mating rituals, to express resentment in a safe way, and to help promote village unity. Differences Between AMUL And Other Cooperatives Following The AMUL Model The NDDB was created so that it could implement AMUL S Model in other states. Though the main three tier system is common everywhere there are some differences between them and AMUL which might be the reason that the other cooperatives have not been as successful as AMUL (Prasad and Satsangi). In the other cooperatives the Managing Director is an IAS officer unlike in AMUL s case where the Managing Director is chosen from amongst the selected representatives chosen by the members. The negative impact of this is that the IAS officer won t have that level of an attachment that a farmer who was elected would have. Hence this would surely impact the cooperative adversely. In other government cooperatives the government has a share in it. Therefore there are government representatives also on the board of directors other than the Managing Director. These Director s influence the decisions of the board hugely and in the end it might result in these government directors taking the decisions and one of the prime principles of a cooperative which is ... Section 1: Identification and evaluation of sources The investigation will answer the question, how did the German disadvantage in covert intelligence due to the Double Cross System impact the Western front of World War II. It will focus on the time period of World War II (1939 1945) in Germany and Britain and the effect of British counter intelligence on the course of the war, specifically: D day, the V1 and V2 London bombings, tactical plans, and technological developments. The investigation will involve the examination of military documents from the time period and books using such evidence, including The Double Cross System in the War of 1939 to 1945 by John C Masterman and A Short History of the Second World War by Basil Collier, relevant for analysis of the Double Cross System and its effect. The source, The Double Cross System in the War of 1939 to 1945, was written as an internal government report following the war in 1945 and published widely with censorship in 1978. It provides a perspective regarding counter espionage in the immediate post war years but the censorship is a limitation, not providing a full account. It originates from John C Masterman, chairman of the Twenty Committee, which helped run the Double Cross System. This introduces a limitation as Masterman was influenced to report more strongly on the organization s successes. The desired goal of continued mobilization is to slowly increase the athlete s range of motion (ROM). This requires much work such as dynamic stretching after workouts or just every day routines. Dynamic stretching has been proven to be quite effective when it comes to maintaining health and ROM. While the battle at the Alamo is the most renowned event that took place during the Texas revolution, seldom people know that there were a plethora of events that took place leading up to the showdown at the Alamo. The Mexican government began to shift away from a federalist model under the presidency of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The enhanced dictatorial laws, including the revocation of the Constitution of 1824 in 1835 caused many federalists to revolt. Many immigrants that inhabited the Mexican border region of Texaswere accustomed to a federalist government and they were quite vocal in their displeasure at Mexico s shift to centralism. Mexican authorities blamed Texian stress on American immigrants; most of whom they believed had made little effort to adapt to the Mexican culture. In order to put an end to the revolt Santa Anna began assembling a large army, the Army of operations in Texas, to retain order. Longinus writes in his Peri Hypsous. For as if instinctively, our soul is uplifted by the true sublime; it takes a proud flight, and is filled with joy and vaunting, as though it had itself produced what it has heard (qtd in Weiskel 3). Friedrich von Schiller, a German poet and philosopher from the 18th century, suggests there is more to the sublime than a feeling of transcendence. ?The beautiful, says Schiller, is valuable only with reference to the human being, but the sublime with reference to the pure daemon in man, the statutes of pure spirit? For the sublime to be meaningful it needs to include the goblins lurking about inside the human. Like Schiller, Edmund Burke a British philosopher from the 18th century, also suggests the sublime is more than a transcending feeling; it includes an intense feeling of terror. In his Section VII Of the Sublime Burke writes: Whatever is fitted in any sort to excite the ideas of pain, and danger, that is to say, whatever is in any sort terrible, or is conversant about terrible objects, or operates in a manner analogous to terror, is a source of the sublime, that is, it is productive of the strongest emotion which the mind is capable of feeling. Along with the inability to detail the process of achieving space travel, the details they did include were often inaccurate, for example the display of evident sexism. While this movie did roughly indulge in the chronicles of previous space missions and the tension between the United States and Russia in the on going Space Race , there is very little mention of the sciencebehind the mission, making this more of a poorly represented history movie than a scientific examination into the world of NASA, the Kennedy Space Center, and the mission of Apollo 13. One of them would be in the Energy sector, which would make two positive differences to the Canadian society. Currently, the energy (electricity generation) sector in Canada is facing a major crisis, which is the fear of running out of world s natural resources to produce electricity. Even though the Canadian government is promoting renewable resources, it will take a long time to establish a network that is completely dependent on renewable resources. In the meantime, the population of Canada is growing drastically and cities such as Toronto is struggling to meet the rising demand for electricity due to urbanization. ... Well think about these men that refer to themselves as being transgender. Men living and conducting themselves as women. My query is, how do these transgender inmates see themselves in being housed in a male correctional facility? Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgenderand Intersex (LGBTI) Community extends to our prisonpopulation whether male or female. However, this essay will focus on the male population. In order to contend with homosexuality in the prison population; prison officials and politicians have invoked laws to protect those offenders that identified themselves as either being transsexual or homosexual. President Bush signed into law the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA; Public Law 108 79). This law was created to protect not only the inmate population but, all who entered a prison, jail or detention centers. The creation of such a law denotes that a concern does exist. In the article Agnes Goes to Prison Authenticity, Transgender Inmates in Prisons for Men and the Pursuit of The Real Deal (Jenness Fensternmaker, 2013), deals with transgender men living in the California Prison System. The lifestyle and daily struggle to survive as a woman trapped in a man s body as well as emotional consequence of such a lifestyle is traumatic at best. • 46. Child Policy And Child Policies Chen, Come! Look at this! Said a boy during our class recess. He stood there wide eyed, trembling with his mouth wide open. Let me see! Me first! Said another classmate. Before I knew it, I was standing there with half the 5th Grade class staring into a ditch in dismay. There lied the dead body of what appeared to be a newborn child. It was a deep, overgrown ditch filled with rocks and debris along with a blood soaked quilt. It was 1991, in a small villagein northern China. It was a rough time period in China a little over 10 years after the infamous One Child Policy was introduced. I had never witnessed a dead body before, and couldn t help but stare at the lifeless body. How could this happen? Who could do something so evil? As children, we never fully understood what exactly happened regarding the One Child Policy. I heard stories of forced abortions, and government interventions to female children, or those attempting to have multiple children. But it was crazy to actually witness it first hand. I was a mistake; my parents always wanted a boy, as did every other person in China. Everyone knew Chinese parents did not wish to have daughters; they needed a son that could work to support not only himself but also his parents, as a lot of the economy was agriculture/labor based. Females were simply useless outside of reproducing. It was a simple concept, if you were only allowed one child, you chose a son. Ling! Please get up and get ready for school Chen said. ... Profitability: Source: Morning Star Investment Research center. From the tabular column we could see that tax rate has been growing each year starting from 2005. In 2014 tax rate reached 34.55%. Normally if tax rate increases, the net margin tends to decrease. But in the case of American express (NYSE:AXP) the net margin has been increasing each year starting from 2005 to 2014. In 2014 it reached 17.16%. This implies either the revenue has been increasing or company is decreasing its operating expenses. We could also see increase on return on assets. In 2014 it reached 3.77%. So we can infer that each year the return on assets is increasing which is a good sign. Financial leverage means the company used debt in the process to acquire new assets. As this has been on a decreasing note i.e. in 2014 it is 7.7, this means the company s liability is decreasing. Investors usually prefer a company that has minimal debts. Now we consider return on equity, each year return on equity is increasing. Investors would be happy because there investment is getting appreciated. • 51. The Dangers Of Fast Food Advertising Fast food advertisements can be found around the world, on newspapers, television, and even online. Children, teenagers, and parents have seen marketing focused on fast food. While adults may think little about such blatant advertising tactics that are solely designed to attract new customers, how are kids affected? People across the United States worry about the ever increasing obesity rates amongst children in recent years. A common explanation is the spike in popularity of fast food. Most kids and teenagers have eaten fast food at least once in their lifetime. But why has fast food gotten increasingly popular recently? Fast food has always been known to be very unhealthy, but kids still consume it anyway. The culprit: fast food advertising. In modern times, the majority of kids living in the United States have access to the internet or television, where they are easy targets for advertising. To prevent the nation from growing up obese, fast food companies should end all ad campaigns targeted towards children and focus advertising strictly on adults. These advertisements cause kids to consume fast food more often, to eat an unhealthy diet, and to grow up in a culture dependent on fast food. Most people will agree that, in the current generation, kids eat a lot of fast food. Considerably more than ever, kids regularly ask their parents to take them to a fast food joint. • 52. The Importance Of Language In Education It was during the 1800s that a decision was taken which had ended up being the turning point for the language in education scenario in India and changed the orientation of language priority in Indian education. The decision was taken to ignore the vernacular medium education and concentrate entirely on English as the single language for instruction (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010)(Sridhar, 1989). It was made clear that those who had attained educationin English would be preferred over the vernacular educated class. English had become the language of higher education and with the establishment of the prestigious universities in the major cities like Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Lahore, Allahabad and Punjab, English had achieved its supremacy (Sridhar, 1989) (Krishnaswamy Krishnaswamy, 2006). From this point onwards education came to be equated with English education and those who studied in vernacular medium were put permanently in the background (Sridhar, 1989), a mindset prevalent in the mind of Indians even today. Despite the changes which were made in the language policies in the 1900s to make space for vernacular languages in the educational setting did not meet with the expected success (Krishnaswamy Krishnaswamy, 2006) (Sridhar, 1989). By 1970s and 1980s about one third of the Indiahad its schools using English as their medium of instruction (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010).
