Contemporary Quebec In The Twentieth Century
In many ways, contemporary Quebec is a drastically different society than the Quebec of the early
twentieth century. No longer can the majority of Quebecers be described as religious, rural, and
conservative; instead they are generally secular, urban, and liberal. This transformation has come
about largely because of the change in values that occurred as Quebec modernized: today s Quebec is
built around the values of secularism, gender equality, and the primacy of the French language,
principles that would have seemed outlandish a few generations ago. Change triggers the urge to ask
questions, and in this case, the question raised is whether or not Quebec society is better off as a result
of its commitment to these values. In my opinion, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women attain higher education, have greater control of their bodies, make their own choices, and
work in all professions, including politics. Obviously, women have thus benefited from this value
change, and in my opinion, that alone makes modern Quebec a superior society to the older one. I
would contend, however, that men have benefited as well, for they too are now freer to choose a
lifestyle that appeals to them, rather than the one that men are expected to live. They also benefit from
the inclusion of individuals with alternate skills and viewpoints in Quebec s public sphere, and from
greater protection of their own rights against gender discrimination. Moreover, a society that cares
about gender equality is more likely to care about other types of equality as well, and in my opinion,
this is true in the case of Quebec. While there are certainly still challenges to be addressed, Quebec
society is now more inclusive, diverse, and just, and I believe that commitment to gender equality is
related to this improvement. The last central value of modern Quebec society is the primacy of the
French language, and here, too, I believe that Quebec society was less healthy before this value was
committed to. Although the vast majority of Quebecers spoke French,

Gender And Social Aspects Of The Sexual Revolution In The...
Industrial revolution was the change to new manufacturing process that took place in the 18th to the
19th century. The process involved the change from the use of hands in production to the use of
machines. The examples included the engineering of chemicals and iron productions, use of steam
power and the plant machine method. Due to the developments in the way of production in the
industries, employment especially the textile industry featured both male and female genders
improving the overall living standards of people. Sexual revolution can also be described as sexual
liberation because it was seen as freedom from the traditional codes of behavior to interpersonal
relationships and sexuality (Gill 103). As a result of this there was witnessed several changes in the
general perceptions and traditions held, especially on gender and social stereotypes, which resulted to
sexual liberation. This paper is going to look into industrial revolution and find out the extent to which
it constituted to sexual revolution and the everyday social and family life for both men, women and
the children.
Industrialization took place earlier in the western countries than the other parts of the world. Through
the introduction of machines that made work easier in the industries, employment was no longer a
man s thing and women found an opportunity to work (Carlin 318). The revolution created a shortage
in labor and textile factories absorbed young single ladies from the rural areas. The

A Functionalist View Of Religion
Religion is universal, but interpretations of the meaning of religions vary. There are several
philosophers who interpreted religion in different manners, three of them being Tylor, Frazer, and
Marx. Even though their ideals were different, they all three still held a general functionalist view on
religion that religion served the purpose to comfort or control humans. On the contrary to the
functionalist opinions of Tylor, Frazer, and Marx, my personal belief coincides mostly with that of
Rudolf Otto. I interpret religion as a great, unexplainable mystery (that may or may not have to do
with human function), and not solely the result of one s fears, one s intellect, or one s oppression. A
functionalist view of religion revolves around one treating religion as if it were a logical, human
operation that can be explained without spiritual connection, and Tylor, Frazer, and Marx all depend
on using functionality to explain religion. Tylor believed that people invented religion because they
feared death, and they wished to have peace of mind about the death of their ancestors. The fear that
sprouted from the unknown, according to Tylor s philosophy, was consoled by the creation of religion.
Frazer believed that religion progressed as people evolved into higher thinking creatures. Primitive
humans, according to Frazer, believed in Animism, which is the concept that everything has a soul and
is one with a god, whether it is a rock or a caterpillar. The next step of developing

Explain The Four Phases Of Business Cycle
Understanding business cycles is the essence of a course in macroeconomics. The term business cycle
is an economy cycle also known as trade cycle which refers to aggregate production. It refers the
periodic but irregular upward and downward activity over several months or years in the market
economy. In another word we can say that A business cycle occurs due to the fluctuations that an
economy experiences over time resulting from changes in economic growth. A business cycle is
typically characterized by four phases Expansion or prosperity, recession, depression and recovery
that repeat themselves over time.

lower point and passes through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here we should not be confused by the terms invention and innovation . Invention is like discoveries
of something new but the term innovation is the application form states inventions to actual
production. However, in way of economic term innovation means the commercial application of
inventions such as new techniques of production, new methods of organization etc. Advocates of a
free market might be attracted by this theory because it emphasizes enormous innovative power in

Ed Gein Essay
This paper is based on the life of Ed Gein. He was an unusual character, born on a farm, and raised by
a religious crazy, domineering mother. In the space of a few years his entire family passed away and
he was left to take care of his farm all by himself. In the next few years he became a grave robber, a
necrophiliac, a cannibal, and also took up arts and crafts in body parts. He is known as one of the
weirdest serial killers of the twentieth century. He also inspired movies like Psycho, Silence of The
Lambs, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

He went to an old friend by the name of Gus, who was a loner and odd as well. Gus was Ed s trusted
friend, he agreed to assist in digging up the body for medical experiments . His first corpse was less
than 12 feet away from his mother s grave.
Over the next 10 years Ed did the same thing look up obituaries in the local newspaper and dig up
fresh corpses on a full moon. He would take the whole corpse or just the parts that he needed at the
time.
His experiments with dead bodies were bizarre. He would construct objects with the bones and skin
and the organs and meats were stored in the fridge to eat and give as fresh venison to his neighbors.
He would commit acts of necrophilia on the bodies. He even dug up his own mother s corpse!

Wanting To Be A Woman
Ed Gein never told Gus that he wanted to be a woman. That s why he studied anatomy. He was always
telling people about operations that resulted in a change of sex. Ed was always desiring to dissect
female corpses and familiarize himself with its anatomy. The closest he got was to wear a full body
suit made of women skin, breasts and face included.
His collections of trophies got larger, and so did the range of his experimentation and obsession. Gus
was then taken to an asylum, and Ed was then left alone again. Ed thought that fresher bodies would

BPM needs a specific strategy and clear objectives and measures to guide improvement initiatives and
determine the target of improvement efforts. It supports the competitive differentiation strategy that
Omnicron is adopting, assists the positioning of Omnicron as a multitask smart wrist accessory with
its exclusive features and design. BPM can help the company leave its competitors far behind by
agilely responding to market changes (BPM Reports, 2007).
Below is the positioning map describing where Omnicron is targeting to:
Problem Analysis
Ben s Omnicrons Pty Ltd is a company with a highly functional organizational structure. The
managers and employees of six different departments are focusing too narrowly on their own tasks,
performing them in isolation without comprehending previous and subsequent steps outside their
functional silos , therefore losing the sight of the whole picture of the larger business process (Magal
amp; Word, 2009). Lack of sufficient communication leads to lack of consideration of workers from
each functional group to their consequences for the other components of the process. The company
had never put much effort and time into developing streamlined, computer based and IT utilized
business process. The overwhelming reliance on paper based manual methods to get things done has
resulted in the insufficient coordination of the whole value chain.

Stanislavski An Actor Prepares Undertak Analysis
An Actor Prepares is quite an undertaking. Stanislavski strives to communicate to his audience the
highly theoretical and, therefore, obtuse concepts of acting. Theoretical concepts are many things, not
the least of which is accessible to a broad audience. Stanislavski attempts to remedy this dilemma by
formatting his book as a fictional class with fictional characters who explore and learn about the
theoretical concepts that he possets are essential to truthful art. This classroom format makes the book
particularly accessible for acting students who can recognize themselves in the various students of the
book as well as the trials, tribulations, and eventual successes that these fictional students experience
along the way. This fictional classroom follows a similar progression to our own Acting 101 class
because like Stanislavski s imagined students, we have begun with the most elementary, sophomoric
aspects of acting and built up from there. Many of the exercises that the students in An Actor Prepares

The idea of finding an inner motivation to justify our external actions has been reflected in many of
our exercises in particular the clap game in which we perform some task (such as freezing, hiding
from danger above, being late, jogging, or moving in slow motion) based on an assigned number of
claps. You consistently emphasize that we needed to find a motivation for what we are doing. So when
you clap twice, I concoct a story in which I am hiding from fire breathing dragons gliding above me in
the sky. Without this motivation for why I am hiding, the action is empty and boring. The students in
An Actor Prepares experience the same conclusion. Finding a motivation for an action gives it

Software Quality Implementation For Quality Assessment
ABSTRACT
Software quality is one of the most important concerns of software industry. Software testing helps in
measuring and verifying quality of a software product. There are several methodologies followed by
testing process for quality assessment. Each methodology has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Agile testing follows agile software development principles in which software is tested for
performance issues. In this paper we analyze quality assurance using agile processes and will
demonstration how agile process achieves software quality assessment.

When selecting a software development methodology, priority should be given to customer

Interacting directly with customers helps to understand customer s need. Moreover, it can up bring
success to the project. o Responding to Change
Software project may have inevitable changes which have to be corrected. Such unexpected issues
must be accommodated by the development process.
Team members with diverse skillset and knowledge would be useful when developing software using
agile. This whole team approach encourages effective and efficient team. It allows rapid project
delivery. Project feedback is possible at early stages of software development lifecycle (Cockburn,
Alistair, and Williams 2003). Therefore agile methodology is considered as cost as well as time
effective.
II. THE AGILE TECHNIQUES Most commonly used agile techniques are discussed here. Factors
associated with them help us to make a choice between different agile techniques.
Most commonly used agile techniques here:
Extreme Programming (XP)
Key principles described by Extreme Programming (XP) are communication, simplicity, feedback,
courage, and quality work (Beck 2000). Extreme programming practices can be followed only when
team size is small. This is not suitable process for distributed teams. Project length is general short
which is around 2 weeks.
Scrum
Scrum technique does not provide any guidance how testing should be progressed. Hence scrum
projects are usually divided into iterations also called as sprints. (Cervone 2011) Length of

Viking Culture
This section is dedicated to perhaps one of the greatest naval innovations in the Dark ages. Readers
would be introduced to the technology behind these ships, that helped them trade with other
communities but were also their naval fleet during their raids and battles.
They were fast and sailed surely on oceans even though they weren t really deep but allowed sailors to
go in shallow waters.
Longships were also a strong symbol in the Viking culture as many people, especially royalties and
nobles, were buried in their ships with their belongings and slaves to accompany them in the afterlife.
Many ships have been excavated in the 20th Century like the longship in Oseberg Oslo that hosted the
skeleton of a Viking woman, suspected to be a wealthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These allegations are in conflicts with the Viking s principle which were not to destroy a ship, which
makes historians very skeptical about some accounts stated about Viking naval battles. Another thing
to keep in mind is that most of the stories considered as sources were written 2 centuries after the
Viking age. A look at a characteristic of the Norse warship, like its shallow draft, reveals several
advantages. During the raids in Frankish Kingdoms, the Franks were amazed to see that Vikings could
sail in places that were believed to be non navigable. These places were sometimes more than a
hundred miles inland, on small rivers. This shows how much Norse people have thought about their
drawback when engineering these ships, as we all know on land raids were mostly avoided by them.
Adding to that, their ships could land anywhere and no harbor was necessary.
Ships like the Skuldelev ships have confirmed this rumor as it had traces of wear on their keels which
is consistent with sand and gravel landings (William H

and high demand volatility require a tighter S OP planning than steadily consumed products. Done
well, the S OP process also enables effective supply chain management. However, what we have
observed in Gabriel is that excessive dependence on platforms like SAP ERP 6.0 have made the
process totally system driven in nature. They have their own advantages and disadvantages. On one
hand, all the plans get generated automatically by the system and users are required only to input data
at various levels. On the other hand, at times system itself becomes a hurdle because employees are
losing their efficiency in planning and data management. In such situation system down time at these

Bipolar Disorder, And Depression
Bipolar Disorder, Manic Depressive Disorder, and Depression When looking at the difference between
Bipolar Disorder, Manic Depressive Disorder, and Depression there are not many difference. One
could look at the symptoms and see that with each there is a risk of moving towards the next disorder.
An individual can be diagnosed with the lowest form of depression and if not taken care of can push
the individual to the extreme without ever really knowing. Knowing the symptoms of each disorder,

Private Troubles And Public Issues That People Face In...
When talking about the troubles that people face and the issues that society faces, it is important to
understand that they both go hand in hand. The private troubles that one faces make contribute to the
public issues that the society faces, and vice versa. Growing up there were a few significant events
that would be considered my private troubles yet public issues contuted to making the troubles.
Growing up I was a fine example of mills theory Neither the life of an individual nor the history of a
society can be understood without understanding both (Mills 3). One clear example of a trouble that I
have face in my life is the suicide of my papa. He was dealing with his personal troubles to keep our
family afloat, finish his education, struggling with internal self esteem, and PTSD from the military.
His PTSD would show up in the way that he would treat my mom and me. I would consider this a
personal trouble because it what he felt internally and what my mom and went through during his
death. My family went through many rough times with keeping food on the tables and my papa s
PTSD affecting our everyday life. Finally, one day it seemed as if hiss PTSD took the very last thing,
him. He faced many troubles as a child but it wasn t until he joined the military and got deployed that
the troubles stared to hit home. Because he was struggling with providing for the family he felt less
than, affecting his self esteem. He had his personal triubles and he may have felt that he

Themes Of Huckleberry Finn
The following paper will briefly show arguments, and conclusions within the writings of Mark Twain
s story Huckleberry Finn. I will discuss the various themes that Mark Twain is bringing to light within
his story. This paper will show how Mark Twain uses those themes within the story, and how they are
specifically used. I will also briefly discuss the life of Samuel Clemons, the author known as Mark
Twain, and give the reasoning behind choosing the name of Mark Twain when writing his novels.
Themes of escapism will be discussed.
To fully understand the themes within Mark Twain s novels we all must first understand his
upbringing, where he was born, where he was raised, and what was going on within the era of his life.

The meaning of Mark Twain refers to checking the water with a line. This second mark on the line
signified two fathoms, which measured twelve feet, it meant that it was a safe depth for the steamboat
to travel (Caron, 2011). The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has a great deal to do with many
stereotypes, of what society at that time believed people to be. The character of Huckleberry Finn had
a great deal of turmoil, and conflict while trying to understand if he should trust what he was taught to
believe, or rather if he should instead go with what his heart was telling him to do. This moral conflict
that he kept having with himself continues throughout the entirety of the story.
Early into the story of Huckleberry Finn, we learn that his father is the town drunk, Mark Twain uses
this to help paint a picture that Huckleberry Finn is a wild out of control young child. This helps in a
way for the readers to envision that it is only normal that Huckleberry Finn is going to be getting into
many mischievous acts. Without the proper role model of a stable Christian father, it becomes only
natural that readers would be able to expect Huckleberry Finn to not act appropriately within the
context of this story (Schinkel, 2011). Being that Huckleberry Finn s father is the town drunk, later
learning his plots of stealing gold,

The Models Of Fayol And Barnard Essay
Introduction
In this essay, I will analyse and compare the traditional models of Fayol and Barnard together with the
more contemporary model of McGregor. The theories will be linked with my personal working
experience by which I will demonstrate their relevance and role in practice. The essay will try to
critically analyse and explain the differences between the three models and their applicability in today
s modern business environment. At the end, I will give my perspective of what management might
mean for contemporary business organisations.
In short, my working experience comes from the hospitality sector where I have been working the
most. The name of the company is ASA Recruitment which is a Scottish based company that basically
search and recruit stuff members for other businesses in plenty of sectors including hospitality,
engineering, accountability and others. I am a temporary worker on a zero hours contract, and work
within various hospitality events in Glasgow. The way it works is my consultant Greg offers me shifts
via a text message or a phone call for various locations, and then I would be working with different
managers or supervisors depending on the place. In the essay, I would talk about Greg s approach as
well as some of the managers/ supervisors on the working place. My role varies, but it is mostly a
waiter, a bartender, or a hospitality assistant who just helps with the organisation of the event and
sometimes leads a small team.

Poverty In Detroit Research Paper
Poverty in Detroit Being home to Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, Detroit was the nation s auto
industry capital in the 1950s ( Anatomy of Detroit s Decline ). The city was thriving, bringing in more
income and more people each year, which led to Detroit s expansion and population peak becoming
the 4th largest city in America. But if the city was doing so well, then what caused such an economic
downfall to put them in the impoverished state they are facing today?
Most of Detroit s economic downfall was because of the reliance on a single industry, which at the
time was the auto industry ( Anatomy of Detroit s Decline ). Although this industry was thriving in
every way possible, the city became too reliant on it because when the auto industry left Detroit, the
economy made a dramatic decrease. While the auto industry was still there, the city ... Show more

Because many people abandoned their homes, the city now has fewer tax payers, and many vacant

out all across the city making any efforts to shrink the city extremely difficult ( Anatomy of Detroit s
Decline ).
Another trial that the city faces is the development of the children (Bouffard, Karen). More than 59%
of the children in Detroit live below the poverty line (Bouffard, Karen). However, there is good news
in the midst of all this bad; Bill Ballmer, owner of the L.A. clippers, grew up in Detroit and is now

Strategy
Companies such as Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola were able to determine whether their strategy was
successful by measuring their sales and their earnings growth. Companies are able to tell how
successful they are by their overall financial strength and their ability to retain customers (Gamble et
al., 2013). The soft drink industry was able to change their image by endorsing their sports drink and
vitamin water products as being healthier. They also made people aware of how important it is to keep
the body hydrated and proved that their product could help. Their strategy was to appeal to a healthier
clientele who are more active customers, than they previously had with their soda clientele. They were

Psalms 100 Essay
The Greeks believe David wrote Psalms 100. It s a psalm of praise for the Lord s faithfulness to His
people. This is the only Psalm bearing this exact title. I believe psalms 100 is split into three
identifiable sections: singing, thanksgiving, and expressing the everlasting truth that the Lord is good.
The first section would be singing and unlike most psalms, psalms 100 is still sung today with the title
of Make a Joyful Noise. With the availability of psalms and hymns we must Come before his presence
with singing and worship to heaven where praise has absorbed many prayers (Psalms 100:2).
The theological theme and second identifiable section of Psalms 100 is Thanksgiving. This gratifies
praise to the Lord for the blessings received; they offered the Lord thanksgiving for who he was and
what he had done. If we continue to be receivers of mercy we must also be givers of thanks. Mercy
lets us Enter into his gates with Thanksgiving (Psalms 100:4).

Chiasm adds emphasis to words. Since writing techniques such as using bold, underline, italics, or

could not help the readers decipher what was important. In Psalms 100 the words: Lord, His, Him, He,

power. For example, in Psalms 100 verse 3 it says, Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has
made us... note the capitalism of the words Lord, He, and God; this shows the reader that these words
are of upmost importance and are highly significant. This ties into the message of thanksgiving by

Analysis Of The Poem All The Lights
All The Lights
I clench my fist tightly. Twenty one blinking faces stare me down. I look down at my paper, feeling
tears rising from wherever tears come from to the corners of my eyes. I blink them back. Dormant
breathing, constant searching, I am alert..... I stumble over the last words in my poem, the class
courteously claps, and I shuffle to my seat in one sweeping motion. We had been assigned to write a
poem on our perception of current events in the world. Writing the poem was fairly easy as I was a
very opinionated girl, and wrote poetry on my spare time for fun. The catch was our teacher, Mr.

How am I supposed to do this if I can t even say my name?
The next day I arrive thirty minutes early to class. I knock then tentatively open the door and step foot

Hey! You ready? , he exclaims.
Mostly, I chuckle.
I pull my poem out and look at it.
Go, he says.
I go, stammering over my words along the way. He stops me mid sentence.
Not like that. Really go. Make me see what you see. Make me feel what you felt when you wrote this.

Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm Ravaged Hospital by American journalist Sheri
Fink is a very inspirational book because it focused on the events that happened in Memorial Medical
Center when the hospital was flooded and had no electricity after Hurricane Katrina struck New
Orleans. Time, space, communication, and identity are portrayed throughout the book. These four
factors are important in inter ethnic relationships between patients and health care providers. Being
able to identify these factors in a clinical setting, health care providers can provide more efficient care
for all patients. Space is a significant factor and it is portrayed throughout this book. For example, a

The Wrong Direction
Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God wants
and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there are billions
of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said. For instance,
Islam was started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with God and became a prophet.
Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however, when Mohammed
came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the message, people who
had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion: Islam. Over the course of
Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many ... Show more content on

The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a Christian
dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die, based on the
concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for forgiveness and didn t
commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person disobeyed the Christian rules,
that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific element of religion is one of the main
reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for Christians, and similar environments in other
religions. However, this isn t the only way the hope of religion is used. When a religious individual
prays, many times they will ask a favor of God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or
Please God, help me lose weight . This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than
focusing on achieving something personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going
to the gym every day to lose weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will
come true with virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and
prays to God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is
celebrated by the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that
God is simply testing one s faith. I would

Alice Walker Beauty
Achieving Beauty
In Alice Walker s Beauty When the Other Dancer is the self , Walker comes to terms with her
childhood accident through examples of gender power, racial discrimination, and selfish violence.
Alice Walker has three main memories she recalls inside and explains in the essay. The first being her
connection and relationship with her father and her family. Her accident involves her brothers
shooting her in the eye using new BB guns given by the parents. There is a tree growing from
underneath the porch that climbs past the railing to the roof. It is the last thing my right eye sees. As

She went through a surgery to improve the appearance of her eye that she started to find self courage
and acceptance. When Walker feels beautiful once more, and her view upon life improves
dramatically in almost every aspect: Give examples. Alice begins to keep her head held high, she
starts to talk more and attains the boyfriend of her dreams, she excels in school once more and
generally feels more self confident. I feel that beauty has this universal definition to society and the
expectation that it must be met to achieve internal and external happiness. Society has a stereotype of
beauty itself. Society believes that beauty has a universal definition which every person experiences.
What Walker is trying to put forward is that beauty can come in different forms and meanings. Walker
pursues the societal norm that different configurations of beauty must be achieved to attain internal
and external happiness. These including the need to feel welcomed by others, the need to experience
true happiness and feel needed, the need to feel self worthy and loved, and the aspiration to feel
confident in one s skin. This is what Alice Walker faces and it is this misconception she experiences

The Importance Of Mass Media Bias In The Media
1. Introduction
Having control over an entire country s population s opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing
that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like
and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give
us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring
is bias in the mainstream news media and how it affects their viewers. This is an important topic in the
field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass media to
disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to
intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner
they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets influence the
viewers opinion, and what goes into picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics
to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a
political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a
certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one
opinion, what the effects are from this, and who makes the determination of the bias that is being
displayed.

Lost Generation
Jack Kerouac and Ernest Hemingway represent their inner state and feelings at the time they lived
through their novels. Ernest Hemingway corresponds to the Lost Generation of 1920 s and Jack
Kerouac corresponds to the Beat Generation of 1950 s. Both of these generations were after wars. It is
not coincidence, wars make people devastated and lost. People tried to overcome problems and pain
through literature and music. Writers put all their emotions on the paper, musicians wrote songs,
which described the hard time they had. These two generations produced the most talented writers of
our days. For us it seems that there was no big deal to write such openly, but if we try to go back to the

I d just tromper you with everybody. You couldn t stand it (p.62). Jake is lost; he could not fully
realize himself as a normal man. This problem means that he could not have sex, he could not marry,
and finally he could not have a normal family with children. All of these problems made him get
drunk often, as alcohol helped him to forget about problems for a little time. Once, Robert Cohn asked
him: Don t you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you re not taking advantage of it?
Do you realize that you ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already? and he answers, Yes,

But when he wakes up next morning, he regrets it, but he never tries to change his life, he just accepts
it as it is. Hemingway presented Jake and Brett to portray people with lost believes and nothingness.
Both of them accepted their lives as it was and did not try to change anything. Hemingway is not

The Heroic Code
The life of a warrior is not always filled with glamour and glory. Warriors cannot simply waltz
through a tough battle, shedding blood left and right and taking all the glory and credit for themselves.
There are often tough decisions to be made. Warriors also cannot just think of themselves, for their
decisions often affect the lives of others as well. They need the heroic code to guide them in their
decision making. In this essay, I will describe the heroic code and share its applications in the stories
of Beowulf, Gilgamesh and Noah, and The Illiad, as well as my other personal experiences. I will start
with the story of The Man of La Mancha, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beowulf s loyalty is most prominent at the end when he fights the dragon. He did not want to fight the
dragon because of his age, but felt that he owed it to the king to do it. Beowulf was so highly revered
that everyone was deeply saddened by his death. He truly lived his life exactly to the Germanic heroic
code. Nearly all of Beowulf s actions in this poem follow the heroic code. He saved lives, fought
every battle bravely, was loyal even in situations of life and death, courageous, and rewarded and
revered even the warriors underneath him. The fact that he died in battle just means that he did not
only live as a hero but die as one too. The last example of the heroic code in epic stories is from The
Epic of Gilgamesh. Similarly to Beowulf, Achilles, and Hector, Gilgamesh was very strong and very
brave, like a typical hero. He is on a quest to be the ultimate hero and achieve everlasting life.
Gilgamesh has fought and won battles against several infamous monsters: Humbaba, the Bull of
Heaven, and a pack of vicious lions. However, even though Gilgamesh was very brave and strong, he
was not a good king to his people. He put his own interests before theirs and ruled with a cruel iron
fist, as well as being obsessed with his own legacy.
In conclusion, the heroic code was a set of beliefs and values that guided warriors to make the tough
decisions that they would undoubtedly be

The Rights Of The United States Constitution
The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the
only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second
Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in
relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore,
the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and
court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a
right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth
amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in
the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v.
Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to
privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde
Amendment.
First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of
Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to
privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972
Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v.

Essay on Gender Discrimination at Walmart
Walmart, the world s largest retailer and private employer, has established a highly profitable business
centered on a low cost strategy that utilizes logistical efficiencies to create a competitive advantage.
Yet, to maintain this low cost strategy, Walmart has engaged in ethically questionable practices,
including gender discrimination in promotion and pay. While the Supreme Court recently ruled against
class certification of 1.5 million women in the Dukes v. Walmart case due to a lack of proof that
Walmart operated under a general policy of discrimination , overwhelming evidence demonstrates that
gender discrimination is a persistent problem rooted in the culture of Walmart, despite gender neutral
policies (Biskupic, 2011).

The low female representation in management paradox is particularly interesting, given that Walmart
trumpets its practice of promoting from within , boasting that 76% of store managers come from the
ranks of hourly associates (Lichenstein, 2007). Yet, statistician Richard Drogin found that women
receive significantly fewer promotions into Support Manager, Management Trainee, Co Manager and
Store Manager positions than would be expected based on their representation in feeder pools (Drogin,
2013). In particular, women received 2,952 fewer promotions than would be expected into the
Management Trainee position, a pre requisite for assuming salaried, management level jobs, despite
having longer tenures and higher performance review ratings than male counterparts (See Appendix,
Figure 7).
The subjective nature for enrollment in the management trainee program serves as a persistent,
structural impediment. With minimal oversight, store managers utilize a tap on the shoulder system
and exercise extreme latitude in candidate selection for management trainee positions (Declaration
Summaries, 2011). As a result, men averaged 2.9 years from date of hire until first being promoted to
Assistant Manager and 8.6 years from hire until first being promoted to Store Manager, as compared
to the 4.4 years and 10.1 years for women to be promoted to the same positions (Drogin, 2013). This
subjectivity extends beyond promotions to

Protons And Neutrons
Atoms are made up of electrons, protons and neutrons. Protons have positive charge; electrons have
negative charge and neutrons are neutral. The magnitude of charges of protons and neutrons is the
same. Protons and neutrons are found in the nucleus, while the electrons moves around it. Mass
number is addition of the protons and neutrons. Atomic number is the number of protons. [1] The
mass of an atom is less than the number we obtain by adding up the masses of all the protons and
neutrons. This is the binding energy. The nucleus of an atom determines if it is stable or unstable. The
higher the binding energy, the more stable an atom is. Unstable nuclei are radioactive, where they
decay until they form stable nuclei. They emit different particles to form more stable daughter nuclei.

Alpha particles are composed of 2 protons and also 2 neutrons. It has a plus 2 charge. They are the

this emission. Alpha particles are released by relatively large nuclei. [3] It can travel across the air,

Beowulf Evil Vs Evil Essay
Throughout history we have seen different kind of battles and duels, but all of this confrontations have

different ways in which evil has been presented, but I believe that the most awful and dreadful one is
the devil. The devil controls every other dreadful creature in the world, he is the reason why evil
exists. Even though we always picture monster and demons as the representation of evil, humans can
also be evil, and we can be even worse. Human beings have a certain ability to hurt other people
psychologically, and it can be even more painful than hurting someone physically. We tend to make
people feel less, excluded and small, so we can have an advantage over them. This is the same exact
methodology for monsters and demons, the only difference is that they do it physically. Movies,

Evaluating information on events occurring outside the organization and identifying trends is

competitive and regulatory sources. In some of my research on this subject, I found reference to the
term PESTLE analysis which involves six different environments for assessment: political, economic,
social, technological, legal and environment.
Environmental scanning involves an organization to look at any trend, opportunity or threat that could
create issues for their company. Once any of these issues are identified, the organization should
consider new strategies that react to these external factors. Issues should be examined that involve not
only direct customers and suppliers, but also competitors, any changes in regulations and possible
political involvement. External factors will be constantly changing so environmental scanning should
occur frequently and regularly to ensure the current issues have been captured. Research and data
analysis can help drive decisions regarding overall marketing changes that might be necessary.

Literature is not as one dimensional as many people think. It is not a frivolous study for those who are

called a novum, that effectively challenges a reader s worldview. It can educate us about other cultures
and increase sympathies for those who we see as different from us simply by giving us exposure to
what is foreign. Authors Octavia Butler and Philip José Farmer both use cognitive estrangement in this
way to suggest and reinforce the idea that humans are too resistant to change, and are inherently
xenophobic.
It is important to understand how science fiction is used to convey an author s ideas. In a nutshell,
Darko Suvin delineates science fiction as a literary genre that utilizes cognitive estrangement in order
to build an imaginary, yet believable, world centered around a novum (Suvin 7 8). He further defines
estrangement as the creative and fantastic side of the genre. The

  • 2. Contemporary Quebec In The Twentieth Century In many ways, contemporary Quebec is a drastically different society than the Quebec of the early twentieth century. No longer can the majority of Quebecers be described as religious, rural, and conservative; instead they are generally secular, urban, and liberal. This transformation has come about largely because of the change in values that occurred as Quebec modernized: today s Quebec is built around the values of secularism, gender equality, and the primacy of the French language, principles that would have seemed outlandish a few generations ago. Change triggers the urge to ask questions, and in this case, the question raised is whether or not Quebec society is better off as a result of its commitment to these values. In my opinion, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women attain higher education, have greater control of their bodies, make their own choices, and work in all professions, including politics. Obviously, women have thus benefited from this value change, and in my opinion, that alone makes modern Quebec a superior society to the older one. I would contend, however, that men have benefited as well, for they too are now freer to choose a lifestyle that appeals to them, rather than the one that men are expected to live. They also benefit from the inclusion of individuals with alternate skills and viewpoints in Quebec s public sphere, and from greater protection of their own rights against gender discrimination. Moreover, a society that cares about gender equality is more likely to care about other types of equality as well, and in my opinion, this is true in the case of Quebec. While there are certainly still challenges to be addressed, Quebec society is now more inclusive, diverse, and just, and I believe that commitment to gender equality is related to this improvement. The last central value of modern Quebec society is the primacy of the French language, and here, too, I believe that Quebec society was less healthy before this value was committed to. Although the vast majority of Quebecers spoke French, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gender And Social Aspects Of The Sexual Revolution In The... Industrial revolution was the change to new manufacturing process that took place in the 18th to the 19th century. The process involved the change from the use of hands in production to the use of machines. The examples included the engineering of chemicals and iron productions, use of steam power and the plant machine method. Due to the developments in the way of production in the industries, employment especially the textile industry featured both male and female genders improving the overall living standards of people. Sexual revolution can also be described as sexual liberation because it was seen as freedom from the traditional codes of behavior to interpersonal relationships and sexuality (Gill 103). As a result of this there was witnessed several changes in the general perceptions and traditions held, especially on gender and social stereotypes, which resulted to sexual liberation. This paper is going to look into industrial revolution and find out the extent to which it constituted to sexual revolution and the everyday social and family life for both men, women and the children. Industrialization took place earlier in the western countries than the other parts of the world. Through the introduction of machines that made work easier in the industries, employment was no longer a man s thing and women found an opportunity to work (Carlin 318). The revolution created a shortage in labor and textile factories absorbed young single ladies from the rural areas. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Functionalist View Of Religion Religion is universal, but interpretations of the meaning of religions vary. There are several philosophers who interpreted religion in different manners, three of them being Tylor, Frazer, and Marx. Even though their ideals were different, they all three still held a general functionalist view on religion that religion served the purpose to comfort or control humans. On the contrary to the functionalist opinions of Tylor, Frazer, and Marx, my personal belief coincides mostly with that of Rudolf Otto. I interpret religion as a great, unexplainable mystery (that may or may not have to do with human function), and not solely the result of one s fears, one s intellect, or one s oppression. A functionalist view of religion revolves around one treating religion as if it were a logical, human operation that can be explained without spiritual connection, and Tylor, Frazer, and Marx all depend on using functionality to explain religion. Tylor believed that people invented religion because they feared death, and they wished to have peace of mind about the death of their ancestors. The fear that sprouted from the unknown, according to Tylor s philosophy, was consoled by the creation of religion. Frazer believed that religion progressed as people evolved into higher thinking creatures. Primitive humans, according to Frazer, believed in Animism, which is the concept that everything has a soul and is one with a god, whether it is a rock or a caterpillar. • 6. Ed Gein Essay This paper is based on the life of Ed Gein. He was an unusual character, born on a farm, and raised by a religious crazy, domineering mother. In the space of a few years his entire family passed away and he was left to take care of his farm all by himself. In the next few years he became a grave robber, a necrophiliac, a cannibal, and also took up arts and crafts in body parts. He is known as one of the weirdest serial killers of the twentieth century. He also inspired movies like Psycho, Silence of The Lambs, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Ed Gein/Page 4 Profile Name Edward Ed Gein. He went to an old friend by the name of Gus, who was a loner and odd as well. Gus was Ed s trusted friend, he agreed to assist in digging up the body for medical experiments . His first corpse was less than 12 feet away from his mother s grave. Over the next 10 years Ed did the same thing look up obituaries in the local newspaper and dig up fresh corpses on a full moon. He would take the whole corpse or just the parts that he needed at the time. His experiments with dead bodies were bizarre. He would construct objects with the bones and skin and the organs and meats were stored in the fridge to eat and give as fresh venison to his neighbors. He would commit acts of necrophilia on the bodies. He even dug up his own mother s corpse! Ed Gein/ Page 7 Wanting To Be A Woman Ed Gein never told Gus that he wanted to be a woman. Stanislavski strives to communicate to his audience the highly theoretical and, therefore, obtuse concepts of acting. Theoretical concepts are many things, not the least of which is accessible to a broad audience. Stanislavski attempts to remedy this dilemma by formatting his book as a fictional class with fictional characters who explore and learn about the theoretical concepts that he possets are essential to truthful art. This classroom format makes the book particularly accessible for acting students who can recognize themselves in the various students of the book as well as the trials, tribulations, and eventual successes that these fictional students experience along the way. This fictional classroom follows a similar progression to our own Acting 101 class because like Stanislavski s imagined students, we have begun with the most elementary, sophomoric aspects of acting and built up from there. During the raids in Frankish Kingdoms, the Franks were amazed to see that Vikings could sail in places that were believed to be non navigable. These places were sometimes more than a hundred miles inland, on small rivers. This shows how much Norse people have thought about their drawback when engineering these ships, as we all know on land raids were mostly avoided by them. Not knowing how to deal with the abuse, and how to let go the abused turn to alcohol or drugs to deal with the emotion and trauma that come from it, and become addicted. Alcohol and drugs are also the number one way to cope for the Cherokee who have grown up with no identity too. They know their name but not who they are. • 29. The Importance Of Mass Media Bias In The Media 1. Introduction Having control over an entire country s population s opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and how it affects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass media to disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes into picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the effects are from this, and who makes the determination of the bias that is being displayed. 2. • 30. Lost Generation Jack Kerouac and Ernest Hemingway represent their inner state and feelings at the time they lived through their novels. Ernest Hemingway corresponds to the Lost Generation of 1920 s and Jack Kerouac corresponds to the Beat Generation of 1950 s. Both of these generations were after wars. It is not coincidence, wars make people devastated and lost. People tried to overcome problems and pain through literature and music. Writers put all their emotions on the paper, musicians wrote songs, which described the hard time they had. These two generations produced the most talented writers of our days. For us it seems that there was no big deal to write such openly, but if we try to go back to the time of these authors, we will understand how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This problem means that he could not have sex, he could not marry, and finally he could not have a normal family with children. All of these problems made him get drunk often, as alcohol helped him to forget about problems for a little time. Once, Robert Cohn asked him: Don t you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you re not taking advantage of it? Do you realize that you ve lived nearly half the time you have to live already? and he answers, Yes, every once in a while. (p.30). So, alcohol was an escape from his problems and he said: Under the wine I lost disgusted feeling and was happy (p.150). When he is drunk, life seems better and easier. But when he wakes up next morning, he regrets it, but he never tries to change his life, he just accepts it as it is. Hemingway presented Jake and Brett to portray people with lost believes and nothingness. Both of them accepted their lives as it was and did not try to change anything. Hemingway is not optimistic about the future, for him and his characters the meaning of life is lost. Similarly to Hemingway, Kerouac shows readers how people wanted to escape reality, as to forget about war young people traveled across the country in order to find the lost meaning of the life and have fun. • 31. The Heroic Code Samantha Budd 01/30/2013 Honors World Literature Ms. Iverson The Heroic Code The life of a warrior is not always filled with glamour and glory. Warriors cannot simply waltz through a tough battle, shedding blood left and right and taking all the glory and credit for themselves. There are often tough decisions to be made. Warriors also cannot just think of themselves, for their decisions often affect the lives of others as well. They need the heroic code to guide them in their decision making. In this essay, I will describe the heroic code and share its applications in the stories of Beowulf, Gilgamesh and Noah, and The Illiad, as well as my other personal experiences. I will start with the story of The Man of La Mancha, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf s loyalty is most prominent at the end when he fights the dragon. He did not want to fight the dragon because of his age, but felt that he owed it to the king to do it. Beowulf was so highly revered that everyone was deeply saddened by his death. He truly lived his life exactly to the Germanic heroic code. Nearly all of Beowulf s actions in this poem follow the heroic code. He saved lives, fought every battle bravely, was loyal even in situations of life and death, courageous, and rewarded and revered even the warriors underneath him. The fact that he died in battle just means that he did not only live as a hero but die as one too. The last example of the heroic code in epic stories is from The Epic of Gilgamesh. Similarly to Beowulf, Achilles, and Hector, Gilgamesh was very strong and very brave, like a typical hero. He is on a quest to be the ultimate hero and achieve everlasting life. Gilgamesh has fought and won battles against several infamous monsters: Humbaba, the Bull of Heaven, and a pack of vicious lions. However, even though Gilgamesh was very brave and strong, he was not a good king to his people. He put his own interests before theirs and ruled with a cruel iron fist, as well as being obsessed with his own legacy. In conclusion, the heroic code was a set of beliefs and values that guided warriors to make the tough decisions that they would undoubtedly be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Rights Of The United States Constitution The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore, the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v. Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde Amendment. First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet, to maintain this low cost strategy, Walmart has engaged in ethically questionable practices, including gender discrimination in promotion and pay. While the Supreme Court recently ruled against class certification of 1.5 million women in the Dukes v. The low female representation in management paradox is particularly interesting, given that Walmart trumpets its practice of promoting from within , boasting that 76% of store managers come from the ranks of hourly associates (Lichenstein, 2007). Yet, statistician Richard Drogin found that women receive significantly fewer promotions into Support Manager, Management Trainee, Co Manager and Store Manager positions than would be expected based on their representation in feeder pools (Drogin, 2013). In particular, women received 2,952 fewer promotions than would be expected into the Management Trainee position, a pre requisite for assuming salaried, management level jobs, despite having longer tenures and higher performance review ratings than male counterparts (See Appendix, Figure 7). The subjective nature for enrollment in the management trainee program serves as a persistent, structural impediment. With minimal oversight, store managers utilize a tap on the shoulder system and exercise extreme latitude in candidate selection for management trainee positions (Declaration Summaries, 2011). As a result, men averaged 2.9 years from date of hire until first being promoted to Assistant Manager and 8.6 years from hire until first being promoted to Store Manager, as compared to the 4.4 years and 10.1 years for women to be promoted to the same positions (Drogin, 2013). The magnitude of charges of protons and neutrons is the same. Protons and neutrons are found in the nucleus, while the electrons moves around it. Mass number is addition of the protons and neutrons. Atomic number is the number of protons. [1] The mass of an atom is less than the number we obtain by adding up the masses of all the protons and neutrons. This is the binding energy. The nucleus of an atom determines if it is stable or unstable. The higher the binding energy, the more stable an atom is. There has been demons, monster, and even the mind of a human itself, but good has always found a way to keep the world balanced. There has always been different ways in which evil has been presented, but I believe that the most awful and dreadful one is the devil. The devil controls every other dreadful creature in the world, he is the reason why evil exists. Even though we always picture monster and demons as the representation of evil, humans can also be evil, and we can be even worse. Human beings have a certain ability to hurt other people psychologically, and it can be even more painful than hurting someone physically. We tend to make people feel less, excluded and small, so we can have an advantage over them. This is the same exact methodology for monsters and demons, the only difference is that they do it physically. Trends are determined through the forces of social, economic, technological, competitive and regulatory sources. In some of my research on this subject, I found reference to the term PESTLE analysis which involves six different environments for assessment: political, economic, social, technological, legal and environment. Environmental scanning involves an organization to look at any trend, opportunity or threat that could create issues for their company. Once any of these issues are identified, the organization should consider new strategies that react to these external factors. Issues should be examined that involve not only direct customers and suppliers, but also competitors, any changes in regulations and possible political involvement. External factors will be constantly changing so environmental scanning should occur frequently and regularly to ensure the current issues have been captured. It is not a frivolous study for those who are poor at math and science. No, literature is a conduit that connects an individual to the vast, ever expanding pool of human knowledge. In addition to connecting us to the past and improving our writing skills, literature widens our perspectives allowing us to explore the strengths as well as the faults of human individuals and societies. Some genres of literature are better than others when exploring human nature, and science fiction is one of the best. Darko Suvin, author of an analysis on science fiction titled Estrangement and Cognition, assets that all science fiction introduces a new idea, called a novum, that effectively challenges a reader s worldview. It can educate us about other cultures and increase sympathies for those who we see as different from us simply by giving us exposure to what is foreign. Authors Octavia Butler and Philip José Farmer both use cognitive estrangement in this way to suggest and reinforce the idea that humans are too resistant to change, and are inherently xenophobic. It is important to understand how science fiction is used to convey an author s ideas.
