“English as an Indo-European language” is a text that expands our
basic understanding about a little part of the origin of the English language:
methods by which languages (including English) are classified genetically, how
these methods help us to separate linguistic structures that are inherited from
those which are not, and how they are used to access the past of languages.
This explains how the languages are analyzed in order to find a common
ancestor.
Personally, I did not know everything about languages and I realized
that what I knew was nothing compared to what I read from this text, as a
clear example, I thought English and Spanish belonged to the same family: it
was true in a way, both languages belong to Proto-Indo European languages
tree, but English is part of the Germanic subgroup and Spanish is part of the
Romanic one.
The text was commissioned to make the pertinent connections between
different languages; it is now that we make a connection between what we
learnt from this text and other subjects of the career. Most of the text is
about morphology and syntax; this is reduced to a subject in particular, called
Grammar which is important to know how to create a sentence with sense:
correct tense, correct, number, correct gender, correct order etc. These
aspects are compulsory and needed to understand what I want to say and to
make people understand what I have to tell them. Other subject can be taken
into consideration which is also related to the text, Phonetics and Phonology
which is important to make people understand what I am trying to say when
speaking: right sounds, fluency, intonation, etc. Both noteworthy subjects,
mentioned in italic letter, belong to our Course Handbook which is the basis

of our entire academic career, being compulsory to learn everything about
them.
What if I am good at creating sentences in a proper way that my
students understand perfectly well, but my pronunciation is rather poor or
vice verse? Both grammatical and phonetic/phonological elements must be
connected anytime; as a group they can make students figure out how the
language can be used in a proper way in every aspect of life.

English as an indo european language

Reflection Assignment #1 Diego Ulloa Iglesias “English as an Indo-European language” is a text that expands our basic understanding about a little part of the origin of the English language: methods by which languages (including English) are classified genetically, how these methods help us to separate linguistic structures that are inherited from those which are not, and how they are used to access the past of languages. This explains how the languages are analyzed in order to find a common ancestor. Personally, I did not know everything about languages and I realized that what I knew was nothing compared to what I read from this text, as a clear example, I thought English and Spanish belonged to the same family: it was true in a way, both languages belong to Proto-Indo European languages tree, but English is part of the Germanic subgroup and Spanish is part of the Romanic one. The text was commissioned to make the pertinent connections between different languages; it is now that we make a connection between what we learnt from this text and other subjects of the career. Most of the text is about morphology and syntax; this is reduced to a subject in particular, called Grammar which is important to know how to create a sentence with sense: correct tense, correct, number, correct gender, correct order etc. These aspects are compulsory and needed to understand what I want to say and to make people understand what I have to tell them. Other subject can be taken into consideration which is also related to the text, Phonetics and Phonology which is important to make people understand what I am trying to say when speaking: right sounds, fluency, intonation, etc. Both noteworthy subjects, mentioned in italic letter, belong to our Course Handbook which is the basis

What if I am good at creating sentences in a proper way that my students understand perfectly well, but my pronunciation is rather poor or vice verse? Both grammatical and phonetic/phonological elements must be connected anytime; as a group they can make students figure out how the language can be used in a proper way in every aspect of life.
