Lecture 01
 Question pattern /English/ B unit.
 Passage Comprehension based 5-7 questions.
 Grammar based 14-16 questions.
 Intermediate Text book based 6-8 questions.
 Total= 25 questions
 Marks =30 (25×1.2)
 Question area of ‘Comprehension’
 Comprehension questions are vocabulary based.
 A suitable title for paragraph is asked.
 Few are indirect questions; answer is not given directly in
the passage.

1. Most important is ‘parts of speech’ (noun-preposition)
2.Tense
3.sub-verb agreement
4.Right form of verbs
5. Causative verb, subjunctive
6.Conditional sentence
7. Agreement
8. Appropriate preposition, phrase & idioms
Question area of Text.
1. Here 4 poems and 6 passages should thoroughly read
2. Vocabulary from text.
3. Literary questions from poems. Simile / Metephore
4. Literary meaning of word/ Phrase given in the poem. ex:greenwood
5. fill in the blanks from poems
Lecture 01
 Let’s start with Phrase, idioms, clause, sentence, Verb.
 I want a cup of tea,
 It is raining cats and dogs
 Rain tree is found throughout the country./
If you go, I will go. / The patient had died before the doctor
came.
 sentence : simple, complex and compound.
 verb: finit-I go Non finit I want to go.
 ‘Ing’ : Continuous, gerund, p. participle/
He is swimming/ Swimming is good exercise/ I saw a
swimming boy.
Lecture 01
Now practice:
Basic rules :
* 1 sub. and 1 f. verb is must to form sentence. Ex.The police
need/ to need a witness to make an ID.
** Clause Marker --- 2 sub. and 2 f. verb.
Ex.Dolphins and whales are mammals those live/ living in water.
*** subordinate Clause never interrogative.
Interg-- Auxiliary verb before sub. Ex./Do you know?/
Congress decided how much money the gov. will spend/ will
the gov. Spend.
**** But ‘?’ mark can be stood if principal clause itself is
iterrogative.
Ex. Do you kow why does he come?/why he comes./ why he comes?

 DU exam:
1. I don’t know Where does he live/Where he lives.
2. Do you know where does he live?/ where he lives?/ where he
lives.
3. I will write down the phone number in case/unless/if I forget

English Admission Test /Dhaka University

  • 1. Lecture 01  Merit Test and so on  Introducing.  Inauguration speech for varsity education system and English as well. It includes meaning of honors, degrees,  evolution of English language.  A motivation story for varsity education.  English varsity question pattern  Let’s start with Phrase, idioms, clause, sentence.  simple complex and compound. In feedback mechanism. Getting answer personally of previous years in this regard.  Main book instruction and giving syllabus  Review the finished lecture.  Assigning for Home work  Ending
  • 2. Lecture 01  Question pattern /English/ B unit.  Passage Comprehension based 5-7 questions.  Grammar based 14-16 questions.  Intermediate Text book based 6-8 questions.  Total= 25 questions  Marks =30 (25×1.2)  Question area of ‘Comprehension’  Comprehension questions are vocabulary based.  A suitable title for paragraph is asked.  Few are indirect questions; answer is not given directly in the passage.
  • 3. Lecture 01 Question area of Grammar 1. Most important is ‘parts of speech’ (noun-preposition) 2.Tense 3.sub-verb agreement 4.Right form of verbs 5. Causative verb, subjunctive 6.Conditional sentence 7. Agreement 8. Appropriate preposition, phrase & idioms Question area of Text. 1. Here 4 poems and 6 passages should thoroughly read 2. Vocabulary from text. 3. Literary questions from poems. Simile / Metephore 4. Literary meaning of word/ Phrase given in the poem. ex:greenwood 5. fill in the blanks from poems

Lecture 01  Let’s start with Phrase, idioms, clause, sentence, Verb.  I want a cup of tea,  It is raining cats and dogs  Rain tree is found throughout the country./ If you go, I will go. / The patient had died before the doctor came.  sentence : simple, complex and compound.  verb: finit-I go Non finit I want to go.  ‘Ing’ : Continuous, gerund, p. participle/ He is swimming/ Swimming is good exercise/ I saw a swimming boy.
  • 5. Lecture 01 Now practice: Basic rules : * 1 sub. and 1 f. verb is must to form sentence. Ex.The police need/ to need a witness to make an ID. ** Clause Marker --- 2 sub. and 2 f. verb. Ex.Dolphins and whales are mammals those live/ living in water. *** subordinate Clause never interrogative. Interg-- Auxiliary verb before sub. Ex./Do you know?/ Congress decided how much money the gov. will spend/ will the gov. Spend. **** But ‘?’ mark can be stood if principal clause itself is iterrogative. Ex. Do you kow why does he come?/why he comes./ why he comes?
  • 6. Lecture 01  DU exam: 1. I don’t know Where does he live/Where he lives. 2. Do you know where does he live?/ where he lives?/ where he lives. 3. I will write down the phone number in case/unless/if I forget
