For years, manufacturing companies have been striving towards enterprise excellence throughout their organizations utilizing the philosophy, thinking and tools of lean. There are two basic pillars of lean including continuous improvement tools, and respect for people. There has been a very strong focus on the continuous improvement tools (kaizens, value stream mapping, A3 problem solving, 5S, cells/flow, setup reduction, etc.) with very little emphasis on respect for people.
