The Best of Bus, The Worst of Bus: Transantiago and TransmilenioMichael Munger
Fixed route mass transit systems like buses present complex issues regarding whether they should be publicly or privately provided. While buses do not meet the strict definition of a public good, they can create externalities like pollution, congestion, and unsafe competition. Two case studies - TransMilenio in Bogota and Transantiago in Santiago - show very different outcomes. TransMilenio was implemented gradually and successfully, while Transantiago's rushed implementation caused major service problems and delays. Market failures from externalities and the "tragedy of the commons" suggest some government role, but centralized public provision is not clearly superior to a well-regulated private system.
1) Barcelona has a knowledge-intensive and internationally oriented economy, with all sectors having considerable weight and Barcelona accounting for 30% of Catalonia's GDP.
2) Socially oriented city design began in the 19th century, and current residential density of around 450 dwellings/ha puts pressure on public space.
3) The document discusses Barcelona's goals of becoming a productive city formed by self-sufficient neighborhoods at a human scale, within a connected, efficient metropolis, to improve issues like unemployment, marginalization, and lack of affordability.
This document analyzes self-organized transportation systems in major cities in developing countries as an alternative to inadequate public transit. It focuses on Lima, Peru. These informal systems emerge without central management in response to limited transportation options and individual economic needs. Operators compete to maximize profits by adapting routes to demand, leading to extensive urban coverage but also socio-spatial disparities, as the poorest populations have less access. The systems function through market principles, with operators renting vehicles and rights to routes from municipal authorities in order to profit from passenger fares. While self-organized transit meets mobility needs at low recurring costs, service quality and frequencies vary based on passenger poverty levels and distance from economic centers.

This document describes a survey conducted by a group of students on understanding of cataracts. The survey was distributed to 200 students aged 20-50 at Taylor's University. It collected data on respondents' gender, age group, and answers to 17 multiple choice questions about cataracts. The statistical analysis section summarizes the results by calculating percentages of responses for each question by gender. Overall, females demonstrated a higher level of understanding about cataracts than males based on response percentages.
A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye that lies behind the iris and pupil. It is the most common cause of vision loss for those over 40 and the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, which can cause vision to deteriorate over months or years.
This survey collects information about cataracts disease for a statistics project in mathematics. It contains 20 multiple choice questions about cataracts, including what age group and gender they are most common in, possible causes, symptoms, treatment options like surgery, and recovery time. The survey gathers data on respondents' knowledge and perceptions of cataracts to be analyzed for the mathematics project.
The comic strip depicts a story where people make quick judgments of others based on their appearances that turn out to be incorrect. The shopkeeper assumes a customer with tattoos is a gangster and will rob the store, but the man just wants coffee. A woman rejects a man based on his looks alone. The man then helps a beggar, showing appearances can be deceiving. The comic illustrates concepts like stereotyping, affective forecasting, first impressions, and false consensus effect.
Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive company founded in 1937. It produces over 5.5 million vehicles annually under brands such as Toyota, Lexus, and Hino. In recent years, Toyota has expanded a recall of vehicles due to defective airbags, issued new shares to raise funds for developing electric vehicles, and partnered with Mazda on environmental and safety technologies. An analysis of Toyota's financial ratios from 2013-2014 found improved profitability through higher returns and margins, though selling and general expenses slightly increased. Financial stability indicators also increased slightly over this period. Based on this analysis, investing in Toyota is recommended due to its good profitability trends and financial stability.
The document provides information on two chicken rice businesses - Leong Shifu BBQ Chicken Rice and Hong Kee Chicken Rice Shop. Leong Shifu BBQ Chicken Rice has been operating for 15 years in Bandar Sunway and serves famous roasted and barbecued pork. Hong Kee Chicken Rice Shop started in 1992 in Penang and its specialty is roasted duck rice. While both businesses have been successful long-term, Hong Kee appears to be more commercially successful with its two branches, six employees and competitive landscape. Recommendations include expanding marketing for Leong Shifu and hiring more staff during peak hours for Hong Kee.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

Another for private houses. The last bigger channel for public fountains.
This provided water constantly
Before the aqua duct wells were used and collection of rain water
Tunnels underneath the town were used as sewer with drainage system
from the wealthy households
City had a complex water system, an amphitheater(a place where
gladiatorial matches took place) , gymnasium, republic building, the
forum(the heart of Pompeii/the center of civic life/political, religious and
commercial activity), market place, basilica(Pompeii law court/one of the
most important buildings in Pompeii),theatres, shops, brothels, laundries,
public buildings, places of worship(temples to Jupiter/Apollo), houses,
public water system, traffic system(stone roads), open sewers in the
roads and a port
The religions and town planning show more Greek and oriental/north
African style.

The New City: Haven the city floating on water
Situation:
-No more land for development
-As city’s population increases, governments don’t have the money to build modern
apartments
-Rising energy costs
-Cars and industries are polluting the air
Proposed Solution:
70% of the world’s surface is covered by ocean. Unclaimed international waters.
Build a self-sustaining city that floats on water. The ocean is endless and offers countless
bounties. It is an open space so as for energy production solar panels and wind farms can be
established. This will give the town free clean energy. So to come up with the solution to this
problem I performed an intensive investigation on previous cities. So it seemed logical for the
city to be a floating city on water. I worked on their disadvantages and tried to come up with
solutions to these problems and used the advantages as a guideline for the new city called
“Haven”. Analysis of how these cities used their environment came into consideration when
planning for “Haven”. Only the best ideas were chosen in the planning of the new town. Such as
the infrastructure like the use of bridges to cross from one sector to another.
The important characteristics and Elements of Haven:
15. ENBE Final Project Part A- Report The BetterLivable TownRepresentation
KiralyRenaud 0320322 Ms.Iffa FNBE AUG 2014 TaylorsUniversity
- The city is in a radial grid divided into 6 entities serving their own function in a hexagonal
formation.
-Is that its shape makes it buoyant.
-It has a round underwater surface that makes it perfect for floating.
-It uses the large expense of sea as a primary food source so fishing is key factor in income.
-Also with vast amount of space free clean energy can be acquired from wind farms and solar
farms.
-Desalination process can ensure the city with clean drinking water.
-It has its own governing state so it does not belong to any country. This allows more freedom
towards its citizens.
-With minimum amounts of personal vehicles the city itself becomes pollution free.
-Since it’s a new concept of city, tourism can be a factor for economic growth
Conclusion:
Basically Haven is a new idea of city with new ideologies that does not segregate anyone. All is
fair and those who decide to live upon it are all involved in its continued growth and
development. The city itself is self-sustaining, clean and a good environment for activities. Of
course organizations, systems, rules and regulations shall be put in place as a precautionary
measure to inhibit the rise in social issues.
Also specific personnel shall be in charge with the safe keeping of it city and its citizens be it
police, cleaners, firemen etc… The city itself will be one that runs on efficient and clean energy
sources to keep pollution to a low. This will attract investors in the long run and ensure its
continued growth.
Lastly the city will be open to all who wish for a better living experience provided that they
contribute towards the advancement in Haven possibly through financial aid, technical
expertise or manual labor. Haven is a place for all.
