Introduction
For our final Elements of Natural Built Environment (ENBE) assignment. We
student were told to be a mayor of an X city, and construct and design a new
city for the citizen. Student have the choice to choose a new setting for the city
such as underground, underwater, floating on air, floating on water and more.
Our Task for Part A is an individual component; we need to investigate and
understands the content related to the city and a better future for the citizen.
Student need to present a video about the X city about the new city and write a
report on the research and finding of the new city. For Part B a group of six
members have to build a model of the new city.
This assignment let student to analyse and evaluate the different development of
the built environment by looking at the natural topography, landscape, space,
building and infrastructure.
The City
Definition
A city is a relatively large and permanent human settlement. Cities have a
particular administrative, legal, or historical status. The City generally has
complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing and transportation.
Brief History
Towns and cities have a long history, although opinions vary on whether any
particular ancient settlement can be considered a city. A city formed as central
places of trade for the benefit of the members living in close proximity to others
facilitates interaction of all kinds. These interactions generate both positive and
negative externalities between others' actions. Benefits include reduced
transport costs, exchange of ideas, sharing of natural resources, large local
markets, and later in their development, amenities such as running
water and sewage disposal. Possible costs would include higher rate of crime,
higher mortality rates, higher cost of living, worse pollution, traffic and high
commuting times. Cities grow when the benefits of proximity between people
and firms are higher than the cost.
What makes a city?
A city is a place that living thing and non-living interact with each other’s; it is
also a place for people to mixed-use and mixed-income of neighbourhood. The
unique of a city is that every building has different age, condition and size.
There are living spaces everywhere especially near downtown for people to
hangout. Large and small public squares at all significant intersection in the city.
Automobile parking is underground or mid-block. Light rail or a rapid train
connection to the airport. Freight and passenger rail depots in town.
What makes a good city?
Cities are for all people. Public places are where all can share in the good of the
city. A cities public space should make all the people that live in the city happy.
Making people happy requires that they have dignity, are treated equally, and
have hope. There are a lots of historical building.
What is future city?
Future city is a sustainable city and is starting to change now. A future city is
cities that expands human potential and improve it. The future city needs to
ensure the sustainability of the city itself and raise the international awareness
of the city. The future city will turn a Porto into a smart city. The transportation
will be more convenient and higher technology. The future city needs to give
people a more good and relax place to live in.

Ancient and old cities
Rome
Introduction
In the ancient world, very often a `city' describes itself as urban centre of dense
population and a certain pattern of buildings spreading out from a central
religious complex such as a temple. The word `city’ derives from the
Latin cavities although urban development pre-dates Rome by many centuries.
The meaning that they are defined as large communities of people who have
decided to live together for a common purpose under laws observed by all.
There is archaeological evidence of human occupation of the Rome area from
approximately 14,000 years ago, but the dense layer of much younger debris
obscures Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites.
History
Rome began as a collection of small urban villages which ultimately became the
city-state that ruled one of the greatest empires known to man. According to the
founding myth of Rome, the city was founded on 21 April 753 BC by twin
brothers Romulus and Remus. The Roman Empire (which grew from the
Roman Republic) was relatively short lived – lasting from its founding in 27 BC
with its first Emperor Augustus to its last, Romulus Augustulus, who was
deposed in 476 AD (though the Eastern Roman Empire survived another 977
years). Romulus became the source of the city's name. Romulus travel to the
neighbouring towns and tribes and attempted to secure marriage rights but as
Rome was so full of undesirables they all refused.
Location
Rome is in the Lazio region of central Italy on the Tiber river. The original
settlement developed on hills that faced onto a ford beside the Tiber Island, the
only natural ford of the river in this area. The Rome of the Kings was built on
seven hills: the Aventine Hill, the Caelian Hill, the Capitoline Hill,
the Esquiline Hill, the Palatine Hill, the Quirinal Hill, and the Viminal Hill.
Modern Rome is also crossed by another river, the Aniene, which flows into the
Tiber north of the historic centre. Although the city centre is about 24
kilometres (15 mi) inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea, the city territory extends to
the shore, where the south-western district of Ostia is located. The Commune of
Rome covers an overall area of about 1,285 square kilometres (496 sq. mi),
including many green areas.
Details
Ancient Rome was a powerful and rich civilization that at its peak stretched
across Europe, northern Africa, and western Asia. The Roman Empire was the
birthplace of much important technological, political, social, and cultural
advancement. Some aspects of ancient Roman culture are still present in our
society today.
Conclusion
Rome is a historical city. Roman architecture has provided us with magnificent
structures that have, quite literally, stood the test of time. By combining a wide
range of materials with daring designs, the Romans were able to push the
boundaries of physics and turn architecture into an art form. The result was that
architecture became an imperial tool to demonstrate to the world that Rome was
culturally superior because only she had the wealth, skills, and audacity to
produce such edifices

Present City
Paris
Introduction
Capital and most populous city of France is Paris. It is situated on the
Seine River, in the north of the country, at the heart of the Île-de-France region.
Within its administrative limits, the city had 2,243,833 inhabitants in 2010
while its metropolitan area is one of the largest population centres in
Europe with more than 12 million inhabitants.
History
Paris is an encampment of hunter-gatherers dating to the Mesolithic period,
between 9800 and 7500 BC. Other traces of temporary settlements were found
at Bercy in 1991, dating from around 4500–4200 BC. The excavations at Bercy
found the fragments of three wooden canoes used by fishermen on the Seine,
the oldest dating to 4800-4300 BC.
Location
Paris is located in northern central France. By road it is 450 kilometres (280 mi)
south-east of London, 287 kilometres (178 mi) south of Calais, 305 kilometres
(190 mi) south-west of Brussels, 774 kilometres (481 mi) north of Marseilles,
385 kilometres (239 mi) north-east of Nantes, and 135 kilometres (84 mi) south-
east of Rouen. Paris is located in the north-bending arc of the river Seine, spread
widely on both banks of the river, and includes two inhabited islands, the Île
Saint-Louis and the larger Île de la Cité, which forms the oldest part of the city.
The river’s mouth on the English Channel (La Manche) is about 233 mi
(375 km) downstream of the city.
Details
Paris was the focal point for many important political events throughout its
history, including the French Revolution. Today it is one of the world's leading
business and cultural centres, and its influence in politics, education,
entertainment, media, science, fashion and the arts all contribute to its status as
one of the world's major cities.
Conclusion
Paris is a historical city. Paris architecture place that has provided us with
magnificent structures that have, quite literally, stood the test of time. Paris is
the landmark of the city

Future City
Floating PH Conditioner
Introduction
A floating PH Conditioner is actually a skyscraper designed to prevent air
pollution. The designer Shi Jian Wei, Huang Hai Yang and Hao Tian have
created a design proposal that looks to have air cleaning system floating above
the city to clean the air effectively. If you’ve ever lived on the ground floor of a
sky scraper or even anywhere on the first 4 floors of one, you know just how
badly street pollution affects the environment of your home. So they design the
building floating and the structure is fitted with air cleaning system. Expert
believes that people living on higher floors in skyscraper should use plantation
to filtratilize the city air. But now with this skyscraper building we no need to
worry about the air pollution.
History
As by products, the purification system would produce water and fertilizer that
could ultimately be used in city gardens and parks. The ‘pH Conditioner’ design
was given an honourable mention along with 23 other designs in the
competition.
Structure
One of the entries at the yearly Evolo Skyscraper competition, the ‘pH
Conditioner’ design looks like giant jellyfish though it would activity contribute
to the cleaning of city air.
Conclusion
Future city is to create more great thing to let the citizen live in. As an architect
we need to design something more harm to help to improve the environment.
Future city are concentrating on?
• Floating city
• Modern
• Very technological
• Entertainment
• Educated
Case study of the selected type of future city
My selected type of future city for my X city is floating on air. The information
I get is refer to Floating pH conditioner. Floating pH conditioner is the type of
building that skyscraper building design for prevent air pollution. The Building
gives me inspiration to design my X city. The daring design structure is my
favourite part. The structures of the building look like a jellyfish floating in the
air. The design of it is so modern and artistic. The interesting part of the
building is that the buildings have an air cleaning system. The Building is very
technology its system is very high tech and is an eco-friendly building. This
building can help to improve the polluted environment.
The New X City
The Squidto City
The Solution to create this new city
By doing a lot of research and finding of floating building. I watch a lot of
video and movie to get inspiration from scene. A lot of picture and building
also help me a lot. To create this new city the important thing is to have shelter
for the citizen. Social development and eradication of property must good and
advance. The environment management must be control so that it will not get
polluted easily. Economic development is to balance up the tax and payment.
The citizen needs Security and safety so that they can live in peace. The layout
of the city must be big and spacious.
Why is it on air?
The city is damaged and destroyed by fire ball and global warming. To
overcome this problem, the city should float on air to prevent air pollution.
Besides that, compare to other solution such as underwater, underground and
floating on water. Floating on air is the most suitable solution for our new X
city.
Moreover the environment floating on air is friendlier to human. The air
validations are clearer and refresh.
Important Characteristics and element
Overall Outlook
The new city “Squidto City” is a well-planned city for human to live in the
future time. The foundation can be move anytime according to the weather of
the day. Squidto city will prevent bad weather day and move to a safer place.
The city floats by using bio hydrogen to help the city to float. The shape of
squidto city is a shape of a squid. There are three main building zone 1, zone 2
and zone 3.
Zoning of the city
Three different zones:
Zone 1
Orange: Government Building
Dark Green: Public Space
Light Green: Green area
Light Blue: Lake
Yellow: Recreation area
Light Purple: Education
Dark Blue: Business area
Red: Public Transport Station
Peach: Commercial
Pink: Religious and culture
Zone 2
Light Green: Green area
Light Blue: Lake
Light Yellow: Residence area
Peach: Commercial area
Dark Green: Public Space
Pink: Public Transport Station
Lighter Blue: Community
Mint Green: Service
Darker Purple: Facilities
Light Pink: Education
Zone 3
Lighter Green: Service
Brown: Factories
Red: Public Transport Station
Light Green: Green Area
Dark Purple: Port and shipping
Green Blue: Agriculture
Dark Green: Public Space
Yellow: Recreation area
Light Blue: Lake
Lighter Purple: Water system
Darker Blue: Bio hydrogen Lab
Transportation
Sky Bas Public Transport Station
The transportation here is well organized to ensure that citizen can go place they
want on time. This is a floating on air city so there is tube highway connecting
to each zone. This will help the citizen to go to work and school on time. Every
5 min there will be a next stop, the time that the sky bus arrive is very punctual
White: Road
Red: Public Transport Station
Water Distribution
Water will harvested from the sea daily. After that will be send to the water
system to flitter it. Flitter the sea water then finally become clean water. So the
step to get clean water is harvest from the sea, then purification the water and
transfer to all the housing.
Conclusion
A city is a place for living things and non-living things to interact between each
other’s, it also a place for human to play, learn and work.
A better city is a city can ensure very single thing is good for the citizen. Citizen
safety is also part of mayor job. Besides that, a good city must have a good
zoning plan and a well-planned grid system. A good city can sustain the climate
change and the natural disaster. In the end a good city is for the citizen.
After this project, I learned that plan a big city is not really an easy job. There
are many difficulties and many things to consider at once such as water supply,
food supply and more.

  • 3. Introduction For our final Elements of Natural Built Environment (ENBE) assignment. We student were told to be a mayor of an X city, and construct and design a new city for the citizen. Student have the choice to choose a new setting for the city such as underground, underwater, floating on air, floating on water and more. Our Task for Part A is an individual component; we need to investigate and understands the content related to the city and a better future for the citizen. Student need to present a video about the X city about the new city and write a report on the research and finding of the new city. For Part B a group of six members have to build a model of the new city. This assignment let student to analyse and evaluate the different development of the built environment by looking at the natural topography, landscape, space, building and infrastructure.
  • 4. The City Definition A city is a relatively large and permanent human settlement. Cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status. The City generally has complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing and transportation. • 7. Investigation & Data Collection Ancient and old cities Rome
  • 8. Introduction In the ancient world, very often a `city' describes itself as urban centre of dense population and a certain pattern of buildings spreading out from a central religious complex such as a temple. The word `city’ derives from the Latin cavities although urban development pre-dates Rome by many centuries. The meaning that they are defined as large communities of people who have decided to live together for a common purpose under laws observed by all. There is archaeological evidence of human occupation of the Rome area from approximately 14,000 years ago, but the dense layer of much younger debris obscures Palaeolithic and Neolithic sites. History Rome began as a collection of small urban villages which ultimately became the city-state that ruled one of the greatest empires known to man. According to the founding myth of Rome, the city was founded on 21 April 753 BC by twin brothers Romulus and Remus. The Roman Empire (which grew from the Roman Republic) was relatively short lived – lasting from its founding in 27 BC with its first Emperor Augustus to its last, Romulus Augustulus, who was deposed in 476 AD (though the Eastern Roman Empire survived another 977
  • 9. years). Romulus became the source of the city's name. Romulus travel to the neighbouring towns and tribes and attempted to secure marriage rights but as Rome was so full of undesirables they all refused. Location Rome is in the Lazio region of central Italy on the Tiber river. The original settlement developed on hills that faced onto a ford beside the Tiber Island, the only natural ford of the river in this area. The Rome of the Kings was built on seven hills: the Aventine Hill, the Caelian Hill, the Capitoline Hill, the Esquiline Hill, the Palatine Hill, the Quirinal Hill, and the Viminal Hill. Modern Rome is also crossed by another river, the Aniene, which flows into the Tiber north of the historic centre. Although the city centre is about 24 kilometres (15 mi) inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea, the city territory extends to
  • 10. the shore, where the south-western district of Ostia is located. The Commune of Rome covers an overall area of about 1,285 square kilometres (496 sq. mi), including many green areas. Details Ancient Rome was a powerful and rich civilization that at its peak stretched across Europe, northern Africa, and western Asia. The Roman Empire was the birthplace of much important technological, political, social, and cultural advancement. Some aspects of ancient Roman culture are still present in our society today. Conclusion Rome is a historical city. Roman architecture has provided us with magnificent structures that have, quite literally, stood the test of time. By combining a wide range of materials with daring designs, the Romans were able to push the boundaries of physics and turn architecture into an art form. The result was that architecture became an imperial tool to demonstrate to the world that Rome was culturally superior because only she had the wealth, skills, and audacity to produce such edifices
  • 11. Investigation & Data Collection Present City Paris
  • 12. Introduction Capital and most populous city of France is Paris. It is situated on the Seine River, in the north of the country, at the heart of the Île-de-France region. Within its administrative limits, the city had 2,243,833 inhabitants in 2010 while its metropolitan area is one of the largest population centres in Europe with more than 12 million inhabitants. History Paris is an encampment of hunter-gatherers dating to the Mesolithic period, between 9800 and 7500 BC. Other traces of temporary settlements were found at Bercy in 1991, dating from around 4500–4200 BC. The excavations at Bercy found the fragments of three wooden canoes used by fishermen on the Seine, the oldest dating to 4800-4300 BC. Location Paris is located in northern central France. By road it is 450 kilometres (280 mi) south-east of London, 287 kilometres (178 mi) south of Calais, 305 kilometres

Details Paris was the focal point for many important political events throughout its history, including the French Revolution. Today it is one of the world's leading business and cultural centres, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, science, fashion and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major cities. Conclusion Paris is a historical city. Paris architecture place that has provided us with magnificent structures that have, quite literally, stood the test of time. Paris is the landmark of the city
  • 14. Investigation & Data Collection Future City Floating PH Conditioner
  • 15. Introduction A floating PH Conditioner is actually a skyscraper designed to prevent air pollution. The designer Shi Jian Wei, Huang Hai Yang and Hao Tian have created a design proposal that looks to have air cleaning system floating above the city to clean the air effectively. If you’ve ever lived on the ground floor of a
  • 16. sky scraper or even anywhere on the first 4 floors of one, you know just how badly street pollution affects the environment of your home. So they design the building floating and the structure is fitted with air cleaning system. Expert believes that people living on higher floors in skyscraper should use plantation to filtratilize the city air. But now with this skyscraper building we no need to worry about the air pollution. History As by products, the purification system would produce water and fertilizer that could ultimately be used in city gardens and parks. The ‘pH Conditioner’ design was given an honourable mention along with 23 other designs in the competition. Structure One of the entries at the yearly Evolo Skyscraper competition, the ‘pH Conditioner’ design looks like giant jellyfish though it would activity contribute to the cleaning of city air. Conclusion
  • 17. Future city is to create more great thing to let the citizen live in. As an architect we need to design something more harm to help to improve the environment. Future city are concentrating on? • Floating city • Modern • Very technological • Entertainment • Educated Case study of the selected type of future city
  • 18. My selected type of future city for my X city is floating on air. The information I get is refer to Floating pH conditioner. Floating pH conditioner is the type of building that skyscraper building design for prevent air pollution. The Building gives me inspiration to design my X city. The daring design structure is my favourite part. The structures of the building look like a jellyfish floating in the air. The design of it is so modern and artistic. The interesting part of the building is that the buildings have an air cleaning system. The Building is very technology its system is very high tech and is an eco-friendly building. This building can help to improve the polluted environment. The New X City
  • 19. The Squidto City The Solution to create this new city By doing a lot of research and finding of floating building. I watch a lot of video and movie to get inspiration from scene. A lot of picture and building also help me a lot. To create this new city the important thing is to have shelter for the citizen. Social development and eradication of property must good and advance. The environment management must be control so that it will not get polluted easily. Economic development is to balance up the tax and payment. The citizen needs Security and safety so that they can live in peace. The layout of the city must be big and spacious. Why is it on air? The city is damaged and destroyed by fire ball and global warming. To overcome this problem, the city should float on air to prevent air pollution. Besides that, compare to other solution such as underwater, underground and floating on water. Floating on air is the most suitable solution for our new X city. Moreover the environment floating on air is friendlier to human. The air validations are clearer and refresh.
  • 20. Important Characteristics and element Overall Outlook The new city “Squidto City” is a well-planned city for human to live in the future time. The foundation can be move anytime according to the weather of the day. Squidto city will prevent bad weather day and move to a safer place. The city floats by using bio hydrogen to help the city to float. The shape of squidto city is a shape of a squid. There are three main building zone 1, zone 2 and zone 3.
  • 21. Zoning of the city Three different zones: Zone 1 Orange: Government Building Dark Green: Public Space Light Green: Green area Light Blue: Lake Yellow: Recreation area Light Purple: Education Dark Blue: Business area Red: Public Transport Station Peach: Commercial Pink: Religious and culture
  • 22. Zone 2 Light Green: Green area Light Blue: Lake Light Yellow: Residence area Peach: Commercial area Dark Green: Public Space Pink: Public Transport Station Lighter Blue: Community Mint Green: Service Darker Purple: Facilities Light Pink: Education

  • 24. Transportation Sky Bas Public Transport Station The transportation here is well organized to ensure that citizen can go place they want on time. This is a floating on air city so there is tube highway connecting to each zone. This will help the citizen to go to work and school on time. Every 5 min there will be a next stop, the time that the sky bus arrive is very punctual White: Road Red: Public Transport Station
  • 25. Water Distribution Water will harvested from the sea daily. After that will be send to the water system to flitter it. Flitter the sea water then finally become clean water. So the step to get clean water is harvest from the sea, then purification the water and transfer to all the housing. Conclusion A city is a place for living things and non-living things to interact between each other’s, it also a place for human to play, learn and work. A better city is a city can ensure very single thing is good for the citizen. Citizen safety is also part of mayor job. Besides that, a good city must have a good zoning plan and a well-planned grid system. A good city can sustain the climate change and the natural disaster. In the end a good city is for the citizen. After this project, I learned that plan a big city is not really an easy job. There are many difficulties and many things to consider at once such as water supply, food supply and more.
