Three experiments I have done with data science. Related to text analysis, integration. Focusing on the learning's rather than details on how it was done with source code. I feel it is important to see this subject in relation to business problems rather than as pure branch of Statistics. Focusing on what has to be done enabled me to find the right solution from a complicated and very interesting subject.

1a. Assignment 2: Responding to Technology Discussion
To those who transported goods with arms and legs, the wheel appeared to be high technology at one point in time. Today, technology is all around us—and we need to learn how to use the new technologies in ways that make our tasks easier. For this class, we will focus on digital information technologies we use for school and daily life.
Considering how different people use and respond to technology, answer the following questions:
Describe how you use information in your daily life. Specifically, how do you use technology in your communications, whether at work, home, or school?
How has the World Wide Web and accompanying technologies (cell phones, e-mail, social media, etc.) changed the way society works with, handles, and interprets information?
Does computer ownership affect your ability to communicate?
Consider the following when answering:
What is an operating system? What operating system is on your computer? (To answer this question, search for “operating systems” on the Internet. Based on the information that is displayed on the screen, identify which operating system is on your computer.)
What is RAM? How much RAM do you have on your computer? (To answer this question, search for “system properties” within your computer system; this will tell you how much RAM you have in your system.) Can you update your RAM on the computer you have? (To find out this information, you can do either of the following:
Visit the website of the company that made your computer and search for this information.
Call a local store that sells computers and tell the executives there that you want to upgrade your RAM and you want to know if it is possible with the computer system you have.)
What is software? What software packages do you have on your computer that will help you with college? (To find out about this, you can call a local store that sells computers and ask them to assist you in finding this answer. You can also look at the “Programs” or “All Programs” folder on your computer and list out the programs you have.)
You will need to do research outside of this course to justify, support, and expand on your response. Since we do not cover APA format until
Module 2
, you do not need to use any specific citation format, but you must identify where you found any information you use in your response. Use any format or style you wish for your citations.
Your initial response should be at least 150 words.

Semantic Search Engine using OntologiesIJRES Journal
Nowadays the volume of the information on the Web is increasing dramatically. Facilitating users to get useful information has become more and more important to information retrieval systems. While information retrieval technologies have been improved to some extent, users are not satisfied with the low precision and recall. With the emergence of the Semantic Web, this situation can be remarkably improved if machines could “understand” the content of web pages. The existing information retrieval technologies can be classified mainly into three classes. The traditional information retrieval technologies mostly based on the occurrence of words in documents. It is only limited to string matching. However, these technologies are of no use when a search is based on the meaning of words, rather than onwards themselves.Search engines limited to string matching and link analysis. The most widely used algorithms are the PageRank algorithm and the HITS algorithm. The PageRank algorithm is based on the number of other pages pointing to the Web page and the value of the pages pointing to it. Search engines like Google combine information retrieval techniques with PageRank. In contrast to the PageRank algorithm, the HITS algorithm employs a query dependent ranking technique. In addition to this, the HITS algorithm produces the authority and the hub score. The widespread availability of machine understandable information on the Semantic Web offers which some opportunities to improve traditional search. If machines could “understand” the content of web pages, searches with high precision and recall would be possible.

About the Paper and Presentation
1) The paper and project are your report on your own project of research. Your
research may be based on reading, evaluation and summary of research in the
literature or may include your own statistical analysis or other gathering and
analysis of data. You will choose a topic for your project during the first week.
(See the document “Choosing a Topic.”) This year I am requiring groups of four
students to speak on topics from the same area on the same date. These groups
will be formed at the first class meeting or assigned by me. You are required to
choose (in consultation with me) a research paper from the literature to be
assigned for the other students to read in preparation for your presentation. While
you should explain the assigned paper in your presentation, your presentation and
your paper are on the topic you chose, not on the assigned paper.
2) This is a Writing Intensive course and satisfies part of the requirement for three
Writing Intensive courses to graduate. The objective of Writing Intensive courses
is for you to practice writing using the writing process of successive revisions.
Accordingly, you are expected to turn in three drafts of your paper: the first to
accompany your presentation, the second a revision in response to comments
from students on your presentation and the accompanying first draft, and a final
revision tenth week. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in grade
penalties. Dr. McCain will act as a consultant both on writing and on the
economics of your project. Since consulting is “work done for hire” (and Dr.
McCain is modestly paid by Drexel for this) Dr. McCain’s help needs not be
acknowledged in your bibliography of references.
3) Plagiarism is grounds for failure in the course. Material copied from an internet
source and pasted into a term paper is considered plagiarism (and is usually pretty
easy to find with a search). Even if some words in the pasted material are changed
to make it a “paraphrase,” Drexel policy considers this plagiarism. Papers for Dr.
McCain’s classes are to be turned in BOTH in hardcopy AND electronically by
the indicated due date. The electronic copy should be a WORD or RTF document
and will be used for screening for plagiarism and kept on disc for the long-term
record, while the hardcopy version will be marked and returned to you. Kee.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. OBJECTIVE/S:
The learners…
1. use the Internet as a tool for credible research and information
gathering to best achieve specific class objectives or address
situational CS_ICT11/12-ICTPT-Ia-b 3
4. Information is just literally just a click away.
Information can be accessed through personal
computers, smartphones, and other digital devices
anytime and anywhere. However, most of the Internet
users are experiencing an information overload which
oftentimes affects the quality of information that they
take. They often take information online as facts even
if it is just the author’s opinion.
5. What’s In?
But before we proceed, let’s have a review first of our previous
lesson.
We've heard from our previous lesson about the various cyber risks
that we can face online. If we post too much information about
ourselves, we can be a victim of identity theft. If we enter our bank
details on phishing sites, our savings on our bank accounts may be
compromised. Our computer may slow down if we are not careful to
download content from unreliable websites.
6. We also shortly tackled how to protect our protection online
and how to avoid copyright infringement by always asking
permission or giving credit to the original author of the
page or information.
This next topic that we will discuss will help us to be more
knowledgeable when we visit and get information from
different websites.
7. What’s New?

Do an online search to answer the given question using any
search engine. Write your answers on a separate sheet of
paper.
Question: When do you say that an information contained
in web pages is credible or not?

1. _____________________________________________
2. _____________________________________________
3. _____________________________________________
9. What is It?
Tips on Improving Search and Research Skills
Online search and research are more than just ‘googling’ –
typing a word in Google and then clicking the search
button. It is a skill that every Internet user should know to
do smart searching and this starts with improving search
and research skills to get better results.
10. Here are the things that you need to know to
improve your online search and research
skills. This will guide you to obtain the most
relevant information that you need.
11. 1. When searching online, narrow your topic. Identify the
key concepts or important ideas. Assuming that you would
like to search for the answer to this question:
“What precautionary measures should you observe
when you are logged in in a public computer?”
Do not type the whole question in the search box. Typing
the whole question often leads to a large number of and
inappropriate search results.
12. From the question,
the keywords are:
precautionary
measures, observed,
logged-in, public
computer.
Keywords are terms that are used in by most search
engines to find related documents.
13. 2. Put the word “AND” between each
keyword to create a search string.
You may type the following in the search box:
Precautionary measures AND observe AND
logged-in AND public computer.
15. 3. Identify synonyms of the key words. Not all databases or articles
use the same words to describe a topic. Group similar words together
by using the word “OR” for a quick and relevant search.
In the case of our example: the synonyms of some of the keywords
are:
Precautionary measures – preventive measures
Observe – pay attention to
Logged-in – signed-in
You may type the following in the search box:
Precautionary measures OR preventive measures AND observe
OR pay attention to AND logged-in OR signed-in AND public
computer.
17. 4. Review the first pages returned. If these are not helpful,
change your keywords for a better description.
In this case you may remove the phrase “pay attention to”
and then type the following in the search box:
Precautionary measures OR preventive measures AND
observe AND logged-in or signed-in AND public
computer.
This gives you another set of search results.
18. If you think you have found what you are searching for, then
you may stop here. Otherwise, you may proceed with these
other techniques.
5. Use the plus (+) sign for a more specific search. Just
type + before a keyword to indicate that the word after the
sign is a required word that must be found in the search.
Example: +preventive measures
19. 6. Use the minus (-) sign for a more
specific search. If you want to exclude a
word from your search, place a minus sign
just before (without any space) the word you
want to exclude.
Example: public computers -personal
20. 7. Use wildcards for a broader search.
Wildcard characters (*) let you find variations
of a word.
Example: measur*
21. 8. Use quotation marks to find phrases or
names. Enclose the phrase or names that
you want to search in quotation marks.
Example: “precautionary measures"
22. 9. Use several search engines. Search
engines are programs that look for
documents based from specified keywords
and return these documents where the
keywords were found. Major search engines
include Google, Yahoo (which uses Google),
AltaVista, Bing, and Lycos.
23. Evaluating Websites
To help you evaluate the website’s credibility,
here are the questions that you need
to answer:
1. What is the domain type of the website?
If it is a personal website, then
you should further evaluate the
website.
24. 2. Who wrote the article?
Check if the author’s credentials or
affiliations are listed so you can tell whether
or not the author is qualified to write the
topic. Check also the publisher of the article
if it is a reliable publisher. Make sure that the
author provides e-mail or a contact
address/phone number.
25. 3. What is the purpose of the document and why was
it produced?
It is also important to check the document’s purpose and
why it was produced. The document should provide
accurate information and must be objective in presenting
it. Some websites produce documents for the purpose of
motivating users to buy products. If this is the case,
information might be biased. However, bias is not
necessarily bad but you need to investigate the author or
connections.
26. 4. When was the document published and
updated?
The document should be regularly updated. As to
the freshness of the date, it depends on the
information needed. For some topics you want
current information. For others, you want
information near the time it became known. The
links should also be up-to-date. There should be
no dead links.
27. What I Have Learned
Explain each question in not less than three sentences.
Provide a separate sheet of paper for your answers. The
following is the rubric in rating your answer.
Rubrics:
Content – 10pts
Grammar – 5pts
