The document describes a smart and secure car parking system using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. Aim:To design a smart and secure car parking system based on RFID (Radio
Frequency Identification).
Apparatus:Microcontroller training kit (LCD (JHD162a) & 8051), RFID reader,
RFID tags, DC motor, Buzzer, IC L293D (motor driver IC), LDR, LED, Voltage supply.
Theory:
Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the wireless use of electromagnetic fields
to transfer data, for the purposes of automatically identifying and tracking tags
attached to objects. The tags, each having unique ID, and also contain
electronically stored information.
L293D is a dual motor driver integrated circuit (IC). Motor drivers act as current
amplifiers since they take a low-current control signal and provide a higher-
current signal. This higher current signal is used to drive the motors. Input logic 00
or 11 will stop the corresponding motor. Logic 01 and 10 will rotate it in clockwise
and anticlockwise directions, respectively.
LDR- Light Dependent Resistor. The resistance of a photoresistor decreases with
increasing incident light intensity.

2. Working Principle-
The entry and exit of the cars is from a single gate of the parking complex. A RFID
tag given to the registered user is to be shown at every entry and exit in the
parking area. As soon as the tag is read by the RFID reader, the tag information is
checked with the database memory and as soon as it gets verified, the dc motor
runs and the barrier to the entry/exit opens up. In case, the tag shown is invalid, a
buzzer will be activated.
Now, if the tag is verified, a certain amount will be deducted from the tag and
entry will be provided. The LCD displays the nearest parking slot available. Also,
every parking lot has an indicator and as soon as the LCD displays the nearest
parking slot, that particular indicator starts blinking in order to locate the parking
lot easily. When the car has been parked over the lot, the LDR placed at the lot
senses its arrival and disables the indicator.
For Exit, the tag again needs to be read by the RFID reader (to verify the vehicle)
and after verification the DC motor runs again and the barrier is opened up. The
invalid tag activates the buzzer which accounts for the safety of the vehicle.
