Elephants are the largest land animals and can weigh up to 27,000 pounds. They live in forests, grasslands, and semi-deserts in Africa and Asia, where they forage for 16 hours a day. Elephants are endangered due to being hunted for their ivory tusks, and their populations have declined from over 100,000 to between 35,000 and 50,000 today.
