Meerkats are small mammals with black noses, ears, and tails tipped in black. They live in colonies of up to 30 individuals, giving birth to litters of 2-4 pups each year in underground burrows. As omnivores, meerkats stand on their hind legs to watch for predators while they forage for eggs, lizards, frogs, and insects during the day and night. When threatened, they bark warnings to the group and are highly skilled diggers.
