A short presentation on the practice of Working Out Loud (inspired by John Stepper), and how it can help us to connect, communicate, collaborate and build communities... In this case, the community of practice for IAF (International Association of Facilitators) to spread the practice of facilitation.
This presentation was given to a sold out crowd at Salesforce UX Lecture Series in San Francisco.
This is the second presentation of this and it changed a bit. The focus is how to take the next we must take to improve our social software we are using, particularly for organization within their own walls. The shift of from the social patterns of early adopters to mainstream is really a large shift and things are really difficult to do as we have only just begun the trek again (groupware and KM were the two prior attempts).
Understanding how to look at things through different social lenses so to see what is going on is essential. This presentation is 6 or 7 of my 40+ (now just over 50) social lenses to help do this. This presentation is a high level view, but enough to see gaps and where things could and should change as we move forward.

Mobile learning has the potential to disrupt our traditional methods of training delivery. Our smartphones are constantly connected, the interactions we use such as swiping and tapping enable these devices to behave very differently to desktop or laptop computers. Yet our designs for learning remain focused on desktop interactions that just won’t suit mobiles.
We’ve been researching the use of mobile in organisations, including mobile learning, for a number of years now. In 2012 we conducted research into the State of Mobile Learning in Australia (see the results Part 1 and Part 2).
What has changed since that study?
A lot!
We now have newer, faster, more responsive devices - including a range of tablets, from iPads to Galaxy, to Surface. These devices and what we can do with them create enormous opportunities. However, they also can generate a number of complexities!
Discover how our use of the smartphones is fundamentally altering our perspectives of consuming content and engaging with friends and colleagues. How can you harness this ever changing resource to your best advantage ? What common traps and pitfalls should you avoid ? Which factors make the difference between an award winning program and costly white elephant?

"Gamification" is a buzzword currently reverberating across the internet - but how much of it is hype vs. reality? Sitting at the cross-roads between behavioural economics and video games, gamification brings behaviour change methodologies into the digital age by explicitly providing us with the mechanics to improve user engagement. In theory, "gamifying" any process, from filling in tax forms in the real world to shopping on Amazon.com, should increase user engagement and overall satisfaction. The presentation will test these claims. It will investigate just what gamification really is and what it is not. The presenters will highlight recent research they have conducted into this topic along with interviews with various members of some of the tech companies that are at the forefront of this trend.
