The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda includes a principle that “nobody gets left behind”. This puts a strong geographic emphasis on the 200+ statistical indicators that each country needs to produce in monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals and increases the need to bring together geospatial data and statistics. To improve this integration, the UN Statistics Division is piloting the Esri platform in a number of countries to look at how this platform could be used to improve statistical reporting at the national level and global reporting at the UN level. This session looks at how ONS and Esri UK are working together to improve the geographic coding of statistical indicators, the spatial analysis of sustainable development data and the geographic functionality of the existing national reporting platform for sustainable development. Learn more about the project, the unique approach taken by the UK, and the global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ports play a strategic logistical position in industry, trade and transport. Port management plays a major role in the interface between different modes of transport by sea, air, rail and land for handling the loading and moving of freight from the moment of arrival at a terminal. One small error can lead to unnecessary costs, delays of delivery and inefficiency. This session will show you how sea-side operations optimization functionalities significantly improve the efficiency and safety of ports. You will learn how to be interoperable with the surrounding stakeholder beyond port borders within an open-access model. Ports also have effects on the environment. Pollution is one of the negative effects which can be harmful to the health of citizens. Measuring air quality and water quality provides early detection of e.g. oil slicks and improves the safety for the citizens living around the port.

The most basic style of RAG works by vectorizing your data and injecting it into a vector database like Milvus for retrieval to augment the text output generated by an LLM. Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
