The document describes various video editing techniques used to create a music video. These include overlaying text to create titles, using cross-fades and dip-to-black to transition between scenes. To create the openingquote andtitle we overlaidthe textusingthe title settings.We usedaserif fontaswe
wanteditto lookprofessionalandformal andusedwhite asitcontrastedwiththe blackof the opening
scene.
Whenwe had done thiswe useddip-to-blacksothatthe quote wouldgraduallydissolveintoshotandthen
usedcross-fade sothatthe title graduallyfadedoutandinto‘HOLD ME DOWN’.Also,tocreate atmosphere
we includeddiegeticsoundof the bathrunningwhilstthe title page wasinshotwhichthenfadedoutinto
the non-diegeticsoundof the music.
We alsoincludedacrossfade of the bokehlightswhichthenfocusshiftsintoanestablishingshotof the Arendale
buildingwhichwasoverlaidontopof the videoof the subject. Thisallowedthe videotosmoothlycrosscuttoa
differentscene.
To establishafriendshipbetweenthe twosubjectswe includedsplitscreentoalso show thatone anotherare
meetingeachother. We didthisbyoverlayingthe videosonthe workarea and scaledthembothdownto 50% in
orderto fitnextto eachother.
To editoutvideowe usedpremierprowhichallowedustoprofessionallyputtogetherandcreate differenteffectsthat
we haven’tusedbefore.

By usingthe same ideathat we usedearlierinthe video,we repeatedthe videoof characterone inthe bath from
whenshe isseenafterthe robbery,andthenreverseditandputit duringthe smokingscene.We alsoreversedthe
videoof character 4 smokingtoindicate itisa flashbackfurtherandadhere tothe ideathat our musicvideois
fragmentedanddisorientatednarrative enigma.
Duringthe last fewshotsat the endof the video,we sloweddownthe videosinthe nightclub.Thiswassothatit
reflectedthe disorientationfeltbythe firstpersonview,beingcharacterone,fromdrinkinganddancing.Thishelped
make the videomore fragmentedaswe alsoincludedsome outof focusshotsaswell whichaddedtothisef fect. At
the endof the videowe fastforwardedthe shotonthe stairs sothat we couldkeepall the videosintime withthe
beat.Thisallowedfora smoothchange overfromcrosscuts,cutawaysand jumpcuts happeningthroughoutthe
video.
