Feeler: A proposal for reflection based on Learning Analytics & Quantified Self

Editor's Notes

  1. Feeler is a design-in-progress tool for visualization of study performance and well-being with the aim of fostering reflection and awareness. The project combines two currently promising areas such as Personal Informatics and Learning Analytics in order to encourage learners to reflect on their lifestyle and its impact on their learning ability. Feeler is a design concept that aims to approach issues dealing with reflection and awareness in learning processes. Currently under development, Feeler is a software and service that is able to visualize learning performance and well-being based on data collected from online learning services and tools capturing physical activities, such as exercise and sleeping. The aim of Feeler is to encourage people to reflect on their lifestyle and its impact on their learning ability.
  2. we present design thinking as a useful strategy for the design of learning technologies that support reflection. In the development of the Feeler design concept, we have applied design thinking and participatory design techniques with the aim of creating a tool that helps learners gain self-awareness and engage in self-reflection about their study performance in relation to their level of well-being. As we further elaborate in the following section, supporting reflection is a complex issue in which, so far, there hasn’t been any clear, widely accepted definition. The adoption of design-inspired methods has been useful to gain a deeper understanding of this issue and identify principal design challenges and possibilities

  4. 2nd workshop - Feeler Design Game The game acted as a communication object between designers and participants and helped to develop an empathetic understanding.
