Joe Biden Qualities
As the fourth seventh vice president of the United States Joe Biden is the forefront for many
influential bills and acts that see their way through the Executive Branch in the Government of
the United States of America; however, Joe Biden did not always have the power to obtain
knowledge of nuclear codes or future legislation of America. Throughout Biden s former law

Panda Persuasive Speech
Have you ever heard of an Ailuropoda Melanoleuca? Most likely not, but I bet you have heard of
a panda bear. Both are correct ways of recognizing the animal, one just sounds a little fancier. The
panda bear has been around for approximately three million years and we are still learning new
things about them all the time. Pandas may seem like very boring creatures because of their lack
of activity during their lifetimes, but they are actually extremely fascinating and not to mention
very adorable. We ve all had a time where we ve seen a cute, little, baby panda at the zoo and
thought, I want one! . There are so many interesting facts about pandas that everyone should know.
You will be learning about the background of pandas, why their population... Show more content on

The population of pandas has been decreasing rapidly since 1990. Habitat loss and poaching are
the two major reasons for the pandas becoming on the brink of extinction. Humans have been
destroying the forests in which pandas live for decades now, causing them to have to relocate to
regions they were not familiar with. Losing their natural habitat meant that they also lost their
main food source. Pandas would starve causing hundreds to die. The loss of their home also left
them extremely vulnerable to predators in the new area. All of the little effects of pandas losing
their habitat are what caused a major drop in their population. The second biggest reason for the
decline in their population is poaching. Hunters and poachers target pandas mainly for their big
fur coats. Poaching is illegal everywhere and is a big reason for population decrease for other
animals as well. The third reason for the drop in pandas is their inability to reproduce quickly.
The female pandas are only fertile once a year for a period of two or three days. They usually
only have one pup and that pup stays with the mother for at least two years. After that, the panda
is on its own. However, female pandas only need to be about 5 years old before they can start
reproducing, but the catch is males have to be about 7 years old. The demand for baby pandas is
extremely high so that the population to grow, but the time it takes to do so is hurting the
population more. With all that said, the population of the panda bear is decreasing faster than it is
increasing, which is a major problem that many organizations are working to figure out a

Trenchless Replacement Research Paper
Your Options For Repairing A Sewer System With A Collapsed Line If your toilet won t flush or if
there is sewage backing up in your yard, there is a problem with your sewer line. The first step is to
see if it is clogged. There could be grease, hair, and paper clogging the line or it could be full of tree
roots. A more serious problem is a collapsed sewer line. If the pipe has collapsed, the only way to
repair your system is to replace the line. A contractor will dig up the old line and replace it or
perform a trenchless replacement. Here are the differences between these two methods. Digging A
Trench Digging up the old sewer pipe and replacing it with a new one requires the contractor to rip
out part of your yard. While this is a very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first method is by pipe bursting. The contractor digs a hole at each end of your sewer line.
Then a new pipe is threaded in one hole and pulled through the other end using a wench and
hook. The new pipe busts up the old pipe as it is pulled through. The second trenchless method is
pipe relining. With this method, the contractor leaves the old pipe in place. A liner is forced
through the pipe and then inflated. Once the liner is inflated, it hardens in place and creates a
new pipe inside the old one. This method will only work if the original pipe is in fairly good
shape. If a large part of it has collapsed, it won t be physically possible to push the liner through.
Deciding Which Method To Use Your contractor has to assess the condition of your sewer pipe to
determine which is the best method to use to repair your sewer system. If large sections of the
pipe are crumbled and collapsed, or if the pipe makes sharp turns underground, then trenchless
repair methods may not be possible. The contractor will probably do a video inspection of the line
first to determine the layout and condition of the damaged

What Is The Theme Of The Lion King Movie
When it comes to movies, I can be a hard person to please. I like dramas, comedies, and romantic
movies. There s one movie that I love so much, I watched this movie countless times when I was
younger and still watch it today, and can recite the entire script for memory. It includes all these
different themes and more. The Lion King, a 1994 G rated Disney American animated music film.
This movie demonstrates family, friends, betrayal, rejection, running from responsibility, values,
and growing strong through adversity.
The movie starts with a sunrise of African grasslands. As dawn breaks, all the animals of the
Pride Lands are gathering to go to Pride Rock, the home of the pride of lions. Mufasa (James
Earl Jones) is waiting on Pride Rock. Zazu (Rowan Atkinson) flies over all the animals and meets
Mufasa on Pride Rock where he bows to him. Rafiki (Robert Guillaume) the mandrill passes
between ranks of animals, who bows to him; he then climbs Pride Rock to where Mufasa is
standing. Rafiki and Mufasa then embrace each other with a hug. Mufasa then takes Rafiki ... Show

Cultural Values
Each person develops in some type of culture. It is the environment that we live in that
determines what we learn, how we learn it, and the rules for living with others. My family and I
are Peruvian. That would make me Hispanic in the United States. My origins are straight from
Peru. I came to the United States when I was 12 years old, so my beliefs and traditions haven t
changed from when I was still in Peru. There are rules that are transmitted from one generation to
the next and are often adapted to the times and locations, and these rules are absorbed by children
as we develop and learn about home country traditions, customs and beliefs. These customs will still
follow us throughout your life. Although a person can be broken down into... Show more content on

I knew everything was going to change. But it was then when I came to know my culture values. It
took perhaps the combination of being in another, foreign culture and being away from my own
to make clear to me the impact of culture on my life. I began to know the value of Familismo. I
started to value more than before the close relationship I had with my relatives. I even realized that
being a country that gives many opportunities could allow me and my family to aid my members of
the family experiencing financial problems, unemployment, or other issues.
When I came to the United States I also came to put in practice the value of Simpatia ( kindness )
as well as the value of Respeto. I was taught to value respect, and be kind to others. For example
when my parents, elders or other relatives need care I am responsible to care for them as just as
they took care of me in my earliest stages of life. I was taught to never answer back to not only
elders, but to anyone who s older than I. I had the privilege of having experienced both Hispanic
and American cultures; however growing up with mainly Hispanic culture values has shaped me to
be the person I am today.
Once my family and I were living here, one of the cultural values that we put in practice within
my family was the eating habits. While I lived in Peru, it was customary for my dad to come home
from work for about two hours to be together for lunch. But once we settled in

Guidance Services
CHAPTER I BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Introduction Historically, the term guidance has
been used in the field of education to designate the assistance given to students in the solution of
problems that lay outside the area of classroom teaching situations. For instance, ever since the first
decade of the present century, guidance has meant, to a large extent, the guidance of students in the
area of vocational problems. By about 1925, a growing number of colleges and universities were
providing guidance services for their students. These activities were more commonly referred to as
student personnel services. Today, these services constitute an all embracing program of assistance
to students; this program, of course, includes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Methods Of An Adult English As A Second Language ( Esl )...
Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to explore the methods are used in an Adult English as a
Second Language (ESL) classroom. I am interested in what types of activities facilitate students
understanding, make students comfortable, and encourage student participation. I chose to
concentrate on this aspect of second language(L2) learning because as a future teacher, I believe it
is important to be mindful and use activities and interactions that appeal and are beneficial to all
students. This study made me more aware of the interactions and activities used in the classroom. In
order to narrow down the investigation, the following three research questions were formulated:
1. What methods are used in the classroom?
2. What activities are used in the classroom and what method do they align with?
3. Do students respond to some activities more than others?
Theoretical Context: There are many methods that have been formed regarding second language
acquisition. According to Brown (2014), the communicative method emphasizes authenticity,
interaction, student centered learning, task based activities, and communication for real world,
meaningful purposes (369). A main tenant of the communicative method is second language
acquisition transpires within a communicative environment. According to Brown (2014), the Total
Physical Response is a method that relies on physical or kinesthetic movement accompanied by
language practice (382). The main ideas of Total Physical

You Can Not Go Through Life Without Having A List Of Rules
You can not go through life without having a list of rules. I hope to grow up and become a parent
myself and one thing that I hope to teach my children one day is that they need to work their
hardest until they succeed and that they need to learn from their failures. One quote that I really
like is from Thomas Edisonwho said, I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways not to build
a lightbulb. What I take from this quote is that life doesn t end after you fail, you needto take that
failure and expound on it and learn from it. I live by a lot of rules, I believe obeying rules is hard
work but if I obey them I will get a lot of things in return and that s what I hope my kids take away
from life and my rules, is that if you do something hard you ll get something great in return.
In my freshman year I was nominated to be the team captain of my baseball team and that night
I was really nervous because I didn t think I was the right person for the job because I am a quiet
kid and I just go to baseball to do two things, win and get better. I also get angry at people when
they mess up but I do usually keep it to myself. I was also really nervous when I was up to hit
because I didn t want to get hit by the ball. So I didn t really know how to be a team leader. That
night I was sitting around table eating dinner when I started talking about what I should do. My
dad gave me this tip that when I m up to bat say to myself, I can hit the ball, I can hit the ball. This

Marine Engineer Was Robert Fulton
Ships have been around for thousands of years, we used them to conquer other countries, to
transport food and people, and for our enjoyment. Every ship that has been made, was unique.
The Vikings made ships in different sizes, shapes, and made out of different types of wood.
Ships have evolved from a huge row boat, to a steam boat, to a huge engine and with lots of little
changes in between. We always need someone to make sure that those ships are running perfect
and that it will make it home safe. Those people that work in the ships are called Marine Engineers
they are the ones that make sure the ships will make it home. One very important marine engineer
was Robert Fultonhe was the person who created the steam boat and first to try and put an engine
on a boat. Even though we have been making bigger and better ships we still look back at the older
ships and how the Marine Engineeringbegan and how our ships have changed.
Boats were made before 4000 BC but most of these boats were rafts, logs of bamboo, bundles of
reeds, air filled animal skins tied together to float down the river or any little body of water. The
first boat was a hallowed out log that was like a canoe. That was estimated to be made around
8000 BC. The sail boat was made around 4000 BC it was made out little logs tied together with
intestine and leaves. They made a sail out of reeds, this boat was called the Egyptian reed boats.
By 2500 BC the Egyptians started to make ships bigger and out of wood that

Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck And The...
Have you ever been blamed for something that you never took part in, or something you didn t
do? How awful did it make you feel? Pretty terrible, I know. This is what was happening
everyday in 1950 s when the second red scare occurred. The movie Good Night, and Good Luck
and The Crucible by Arthur Miller display the many false accusations that were brought upon the
plethora of people in the society that were said to be people they weren t. This made the public
aware of what was really going on at the time, and to show that history was repeating itself.
There are two people who were falsely accused that were definitely surprising when reading and
watching the two forms of entertainment were Edward Murrow and John Proctor. These two
characters are very similar in the sense that they both were wrongfully alleged to be people that
they weren t. Mary Warren, a weak follower in the novel, says to Proctor in front of the judges
Don t touch me don t touch me! You re the Devil s man! (Miller 1212) Because of this, Proctor
gets arrested and is hung in Act IV. However, what Mary Warren said was not true. John wasn t
the most perfect person in Salem, but he was not a witch, nor working with the devil! John
proctor tried to help those who were falsely accused as well. He did everything in his power to
keep his wife from being convicted, not to mention many others like Goody Osbourne, Goody
Nurse, and Sarah Good, those of which were not guilty under any circumstances. You accuse

Analysis Of Waiting On A Song
♦♦ Waiting On A Song
One of the hardest working musicians out there, Auerbach is always in the studio, playing
shows, or working with music in some kind of way. Between The Black Keys, The Arcs, and his
solo projects, he keeps very busy. In Waiting On A Song, Hardworking Dan describes how
sometimes it can be difficult to write songs when you re trying real hard to do so. He reflects
throughout the song on how the songwriting process has always come easier to him by just going
through every day life and paying attention to his surroundings.
Waiting On A Song encompasses a warm rhythm section that starts from the very first measure and
continues throughout the opening track. Overall, the words and instruments reflect movement,
contentedness, and peace of mind. It s a great driving song.
♦♦♦ Malibu Man
The winding, dissonant, country guitar that plays in the background is the perfect focus for the
song. When the preciseness of the orchestra joins in with the guitar on the chorus, the song really
hits it s strong point.
Livin In Sin
After hiding in the back of the mix for the first two songs, Auerbach comes up real close with the
vocal line on Livin In Sin. The bouncing rhythm section and distant guitar playing matched with
Auerbach s close up and personal vocals helps the listener drift off into a joyous and different world.
Shine On Me
After hearing this song one too many times on the radio, this is the one song that I sometimes
consider skipping

Money Laundering
In July 2012, HSBC was investigated and interrogated by the U.S. senate permanent committee
due to several inadequacies in its anti laundering practices. The bank participated in the money
transfer by drug dealers from its Mexican Subsidiary to its US subsidiary, comprising around 7
billion dollars. It was the damage to a reputation of the bank. As a result, HSBC decided to monitor
its public policy and regulatory system for restoring the trust of clients.
Brand Name
While it is certainly a well known banking company in the world, HSBC was late to accomplish a
clear marketing strategy and making a unified brand. Because he has a number of different
branches in the different countries, which created them with different names. Although HSBC
made a unified brand in 1998, but the history of bank s name changes may have reduced brand
awareness. For example, a simple online search for the World Bankin different countries fails to

Impact Of Charles Lindbergh In The 1920s
The 1920s was a decade of drastic change in the United States, with many new conflicts, leisure
activities, and heroes to worship (Nash 374). Charles Lindbergh was one of these heroes. Born in
1902, he was trained in aviation and worked as an airmail pilot (Bishop). Later, he made history by
becoming the first person to fly across the Atlantic Oceanalone (Nash 388). On May twenty first,
1927, Lindbergh traveled from New York to Le Bourget field in Paris in his plane, the Spirit of St.
Louis (James). He designed this plane himself, working to make it as small and lightweight as
possible (Kessner Charles Lindbergh, A New Hero ). Known as the lone eagle , Lindbergh became
one of the biggest celebrities of the era (Chamberlain). His flight caused more excitement than any
other event of its time (Nash 388). Approximately 25,000 people were at Le Bourget field to watch
Lindbergh land (James). Upon returning to the United States, there were numerous parades and
dinners to honor his achievement ( Lindbergh Visit Ends ). Charles Lindbergh was the most
influential hero to emerge from the 1920s, making an impact by transforming aviation, as well as
acting as a role model for the American public and encouraging a return to the old way of American
life. Through his achievement in flying over the Atlantic Ocean, Charles Lindbergh contributed
greatly towards the advancement of aviation. In fact, while returning to the U.S. from Europe,

Jubien s Definition Of The Universe
Jubien begins his argument by defining the universe as all of the physical aspects of space. With
this as his foundation it is not possible for the Big bang to be the origin of the universe. As
discussed in lecture, the common man denotes all this physical to being related to a first cause in
an infinite chain of causes. This ideal is based on the thoughts that there was nothing before he Big
Bang, and that the event itself started everything we can receive through our senses. According to
Jubien s definition of the universeas containing all physical and material things, any physical
cause could not be the origin of the universe because it would cause two new questions to arise.
What was that event s cause? If it is even plausible, how can a physical event take place outside
of the universe? Jubien would say that the origin of the universe can be answered with a simple I
don t know, because there is only so far back causes can observably go before there is a lack of
information available. Any physical cause of the universe can be traced to another cause, and
therefore cannot be the origin of the universe.

The Drilling Sites Will Be Located Near The Ogallala Aquifer
One of the things that the commission need to keep in mind while deciding will be that the drilling

which means polluting the aquifer could have a large impact on hundreds of people s drinking

One of the key factors in solving the problem would be to put in place much stricter regulations
for companies to follow. If the government made companies work in a more responsible they
would have to pay more attention to where they are drilling, leading to less drilling sites in
neighborhoods or close to people s homes. The regulations on zoning could cause a chain
reaction of problem solvers, if the fracking wells start to be farther away from homes the water
that people are drinking will less likely be contaminated. For Oklahoma there are not yet
regulations on where to frack like other states. Drilling is taking place on what is called
basement rock, this is believed to be the cause of the tremblors. This is just one place where a
little change in law can be a big change for a community. Another easy solution would be
regulating the chemicals companies are allowed to use, the chemical cocktails used are
commonly filled with acids, detergents and poisons that are not regulated by federal laws.
Natalie Starkey, a writer for The Guardian, writes to explain that even areas that are not prone to
earthquakes may still experience them due to drilling. Companies have denied having any ties to
the rising number of quakes. The earthquakes that will appear will be very dangerous in most
cases. The lack of regulation can be tied back into this issue since there are no laws on where
companies can

Morality In The Middle Ages Essay
Moral tales in the middle ages were set up to teach a lesson about how to live life according to
the church. During Medieval times most tales were religious based. The end of the Middle Ages
were more corrupt coming from the Catholic Church and that was a serious problem and those
moral messages came from the bible. There still may be some explanation to bring into play
image of class, especially middle class, well to Chaucer. The middle ages were a time of an era
during which social structures and theory were always changing. Chaucer knew, it s no trouble
to write for a group of people who slightly shared the same set of values, whether it was the
parson, a cook, or an upper class prioress. Each character Chaucer addressed had their own set of
values and those values and definition of the moral tales were defined in the medieval world by
two structures known as the class system and the church. The Catholic Church was extremely
corrupt in middle ages and the Pardoner is one of the prime examples of that corruption in the
church. Later on in the years of the Middle Ages, some clergy took it upon themselves of this
tradition and charged people to see holy relics. The Pardoner actually sells pardons, wiping a clean

associated with love of God and love from God. And that s what is revealed in the first reference
of love. But I was hurt right now throughout mine eye Into mine heart, that will my bane be.
(Chaucer 16). This explains how important it is during this period to claim that lust entered through

incorporating a young girl that has nothing to do with the war into a war novel, clarifies he has
conflicting emotions and traumatic experiences on repeat in his mind (War). It is not about the
point of the novel, the point of the war, as it is filled with senseless stories whose purposes are

Toothpaste, By Lan Wallace
In society we are faced with a plethora of options about everything from college majors to the type
of toothpaste we purchase. The question then becomes: are the numerous options a help or a
hindrance? In an article from The Atlantic, writer Lan Wallace discusses the issue surrounding what
is termed choiceoverload. The research reviewed today explores this question and explores how the
results could impact how businesses and other institutions choose to approach increasingly
saturated markets.
The author, Lan Wallace, of the article Toothpaste, Dating and Data: The Hazards of Too Much
Choice , uses the title alone to imply that an abundance of choices is negative or should be seen as a
threat. Throughout the piece she writes about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The independent variable in the experiment was the types and number of jams displayed. And the
dependent variable was the motivation to make the choice of which jam to purchase.
Iyengar and Lapper conducted quantitative research. They did this by observing the customers,
recording how many sampled and how many followed through to commitment by purchasing jam.
They also measured those that walked away.
Iyengar s sample was primarily middle aged Caucasians, 62 percent of whom were female. At the
times in which the jams were displayed there were 386 shoppers present. Of those, 260 actually
engaged the display.
The media did in fact stretch the generalizability since the sampled population was not very
diverse. With most of the sample being middle aged Caucasian females, who were likely of similar
socioeconomic status. The study was done at a high end market in California. Part of the reason for
the generalization is attributed to the work of Barry Schwartz, who first introduced the idea of the
paradox of choice. Schwartz s teachings infiltrated the media, in turn promoting the stretching of
this samples generalizability.
The study is experimental. They did the experiment in a natural environment, attempting to make
it as ordinary as possible so they did it at a market in California that regularly has and offers
samples. They were two groups one that offered 6 types of jams and another that offered 24 types
of jams.

The National Football League on Legal Hits
The national football league has stiffened its policy on legal hits. The hit zone has shrunk, while
player frustrations have grown. The policy is enacted in an effort to reduce the number of
concussions in the game of football. The enforcement of these rules has strayed away from
being all about safety. The policy on hits has created a divide among its players and fans alike.
The policy of hits being enforced so strictly has had a significant impact on the sport. The
sociology of the NFL and the rule itself drive this argument. By stepping on the field as an NFL
football player, it is accepted that it is very dangerous. The players make enough money to make
the concussions worth it. Profiting from the fine money for these hits has caused the NFL to be
enforcing these rules unethically, the rules and the impact they have had on the sport have been
detrimental to football. The NFL has created a new acceptable hit zone which is very small.
Limiting a players area to deliver a hit has created a difficulty for them. Players have had to
completely adjust their approach to tackling. Players are becoming very frustrated with the new
rules, for example Pittsburgh Steelers player Ryan Clark states ...give a guy who is 200 pounds,
like myself, a 2 foot area to stop a guy who is 240 or 250 running at full speed. They might as
well just take us off the field... (Patra 1). This is evidence that NFL players are actually getting
frustrated with these rules. Ryan Clark is one of the most

What Does The Rod Of Iron Mean
The rod of iron ; the rod of discipline; in the bible the rod has symbolized power and authority and
yes destructive power, as we shared in the introduction the word rod and staff can apply to one and
the same thing.
The disciples used rods, or staffs, to assist them as they journeyed from place to place. Jesus, as
he sent the disciples out told them in Mark 6:8 to take nothing for their journey, save a staff only,
no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse. Do you find that interesting? This was really a critical
part of ministry. This is still important today also.
So now that you have been called to Prophetic Staff ministry, it is your staff, or rod, of the Lord is

The rod of Moses, the rod of Aaron, the rod of Levi, and most significantly, the rod of Moses is
commonly called the Rod of God, play such an important role in the delivery of Israel from
Egyptian bondage. This was the same shepherd s rod which Moses used in tending the flocks of
Jethro, his father in law, in Midian. Moses is in the wilderness and goes forth with his staff and we
complain today when we are not around bright lights and big city. We seem so not to understand the
process.
The prophet Moses on the back side of Mount Horeb, the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of
fire and spoke to him out of a burning bush. You simply have to imagine how hard Moses may
have held his rod, in fear. God says, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in
Egypt, and have heard their cry, Moses, I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth
my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. Exodus.

The Pros And Cons Of The Progressive Era
Working only to die or lose a limb, being a woman with no voice, and dealing with unsanitary
meat and food has never been the ideal lifestyle. The Progressive Era was a period of widespread
social activism and political reform across the United States from 1890 to the 1920 s. The main
objectives of the progressive movement were eliminating problems caused by industrialization,
urbanization, immigration and corruption in government (Progressive Era). Yet people in the
Progressive Era fought to change abuses with things like working conditions by going on strike or
forming groups like labor unions, the 19th amendment to help women in America have the right to
vote, and things like the pure food and drug actand the meat inspection act to protect the consumers.
People went on strike meaning they stopped going to work to change the work conditions. They
felt if there was no workers there was no factories, they wanted better conditions and going on strike
was the start to this. Women also went on strike they protested until the Nineteenth Amendment
was passed. Lastly 2 food acts were passed to protect the consumers from the meat that was
causing illness and death. Despite previous arguments the progressive era was no joke nothing
about it was okay until the people were able to get reform laws changed.
During the time of 1900 1917 working conditions in America were horrible. President Theodore
Roosevelt had championed the conservation movement to save human lives (progressive era

The moral that we can learn from hecate is that even though her name means The distant one she
s always around when you need her help or when you need her to protect you from the streets at
night or when your giving birth. This means that we should never be distant from no one because
someone may need our help and we need to be able to help them as well as some day we may
need someone else s help and we would want them to be their helping us and supporting us for
whatever reason.
The greeks and people from other nations come up with this myths because they were scared to
go out at night, scared of ghosts and they wanted their new born babies to be healthy and grow
with no problems, so they created a god to pray for those things and to feel that someone is
protecting them when they were alone at night in the streets. This stories still exist today because

Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization
Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization This paper aims to explore and confirm the ceremonial
and ritual importance of Theobroma cacao to the Maya civilization and its various uses therein.
Firstly, I will provide a brief overview of the cultural history of cacao, which is known as kakaw
in the Maya language. Next, I will examine the connection between cacao and ancient Maya
religion, which is the basis for its importance to the Maya culture. I will then discuss the ritual
and ceremonial significance of cacao and its forms of use, based on the analysis of Maya
hieroglyphs and iconography, as well as ethnohistorical, ethnographic, and other historical
accounts, and the recent research by archaeologists who have found cacao residues in ancient
pottery. The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao L.) is native to the northwest Amazon basin of South
America and the wild species was spread by humans into Southern Mexico and Central America,
where it is thought to have been domesticated (Ogata et al. 2006). The data collected by Ogata et
al. (2006) supports Mesoamerica as a center of cacao domestication, but also suggests a possible
secondary area of domestication in South America. At first, only the cacao pulp was used for its
sweet flavour, yet it wasn t until 1800 BC that the inhabitants of this region discovered how to turn
the cacao seeds into chocolate through a process of drying, roasting, and grinding the cacao seeds
(Coe and Coe 1996). By the time the Olmec civilization

why all these regalia should be held in high regard. After all, improper care of the different regalia

What rituals are involved?
Learning the Basics
Considering the number of rituals and the depth of history and beliefs that come with them, it
takes years before one can truly become proficient in all the ceremonies involved. A progressive
line is followed as every Mason ascends to each chair in the lodge. And with each level, a new

Summary Of Heroism In Updike
A: Author s and Speaker s Purpose:
Updike is degrading, de romanticizing heroism, the actions of Sammy when he quit his job by
setting the story during the 1960 s which is when people started abandoning the conservative
approach to life and started expressing themselves more openly. An example of open expression is
when Sammy quit his job or how the three girls walked into the A P in nothing but bathing suits.
Queenie and her entourage are being heroes by breaking the social norms regarding women at the
time which makes them heroines in the eyes of many females. They break the social norm by going
into an A P dressed only in bathing suits and by the way they behaved.
He intends to show the differences in the lifestyles of each member of the triangular conflict and
how each lifestyle conflicts with each other forcing Sammy to choose between to live his life like
Lengel or Queenie. Lengel being a conservative ancient man or Queenie being an open minded
young person.
Updike satirizes American society s fondness for heroism by having one of their own. Lengel, shot
down a female heroine, Queenie, for standing against the common stereotype of women having to
be extremely conservative.
B: Drawing Inferences:
One would assume that under normal circumstances Sammy and Lengel would be acquaintances
since Lengel is a friend of the family, not Sammy. However, since Sammy is a teen he must likely
despise the idea of growing up to be like Lengel which leads me to believe that he

Why Was LГ©vi-Strauss Still Relevant Today
In this essay I will discuss why I believe that Claude LГ©vi Strauss work is still relevant today and
I will focus on the role that he assigns to the social anthropologist. Claude LГ©vi Strauss was the
most influential anthropologist theorist in France. His work which he contributed to anthropology
still remains to have significant relevance in todays contemporary anthropology. He was born on the
28th of November 1908 and passed away on the 30th of October 2009. I will discuss his theory
and what he argued for and against. Anthropologists like Durkheim, De Saussure, Simiand,
Rousseau, Jakobson and Mauss and many more influenced LГ©vi Strauss when it came to his
work. First I would like to explain the term anthropology according to (LГ©vi Strauss,... Show

LГ©vi Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important.
Firstly when anthropologists discuss kinship they are concerned with social behaviours and not
biological facts and the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient
to discuss kinship without any reference to biology (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down
kinship terms into individual systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though
it states that kinship does not have to do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a
child is related to their mother just like she is to her sister. LГ©vi Strauss is interested in in the
systems and not as much with terms of kinship. He looks at the ties by which people are related,
rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal relationships. In society in order for a child to
be seen as a legitimate child they need to have two parents who are married. Society does not
judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and his/her parents but on the relationship
between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into the background for the most part
in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as everyone is always interested in
your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of great importance. LГ©vi
Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter and husband/wife, but
he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast between father/son and
mother s brother/sister s son. According to LГ©vi Strauss in order for a kinship structure to exist
three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a relation of
affinity and a relation of descent. (Leach, 1973: 101). Through LГ©vi Strauss explanation of

An Analysis Of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio, The...
In Sherwood Anderson s book Winesburg, Ohio, the term grotesque is used to describe some
individuals of the titular town who lets a personal truth control his life. Letting the truth control his
life often leads to a feeling of loneliness. Examples of grotesques are Wing Biddlebaum, Elmer
Cowley, and Alice Hindman.
The idea of the grotesque is seen in the story Hands. This is the first story of the book and is
about a man named Adolph Myers, however he is better known as Wing Biddlebaum. This
nickname was given because of his defining features, his hands, had restless activity, like unto
the beating of the wings of an imprisoned bird (6). His hands are what makes him known in
Winesburg. It is said that Winesburg is proud of the hands of Wing Biddlebaum (6), but this is
mostly because the constant activity of the hands allow Wing to pick a record amount of berries.
Besides his distinguishing feature, many people in town did not know much about Wing and this
is mostly because Wing felt the need to isolate himself. To Wing, his hands are something to be
concealed. He felt that his hands moved too much compared to the hands of other people in town
which were never expressive (6). This is the truth that Wing carries and which runs his life. His
truth is further explored when it is revealed that he was ran out of his old town in Pennsylvania
twenty years ago. When Wing was a school teacher here and there went his hands, caressing the
shoulders of the boys, playing about

The Competitive Advantage Of Zara
Zara, one of the world s largest apparel retailers, was founded in 1975 in La CorunaпјЊ Spain.
With its successful rollout in the Spanish market, it began to expand its stores around the world,
and became one of the most profitable brands in the appalling market. Zara was famous for its
ability to quickly respond to the market demands, which provides a useful lesson in terms of
competitive advantage with its competitors. But confronting to the fast paced and constantly
changing market, if a company wants to consistently increase market share in order to survive in
the competitive market, it is irrefutable that it needs to achieve sustainable competitive advantage,
since the achievement of sustainable competitive advantage can be expected to lead to higher
performance. The resource based view (RBV), which emphasizes the internal capabilities of a firm
to attain sustainable competitive advantage in its market and industry, could be an excellent tool to
explain why a company can be superior to others (Sheehan and Foss, 2007). Hence, the main

Disadvantages Of Contract Employment Versus At-Will...
What are the comparative advantages and disadvantages of contract employment versus at will
employment for an employer and employee?
There are advantages and disadvantages for both the employee and the employer with contract
employment.
For the employer, it gives them a way to keep their best employees around, along as they can
provide terms that the employee finds advantageous. However, by the same token, a good
employee could be offered a more attractive contract by another employer when it comes contract
renewal time, having a contract doesn t mean you own that employee, but it gives each of the
parties involved a measure of comfort.
As an employer and an employee having a contract spells out the terms of employment, it gives
each of you a clear expectation of the job that should be performed, the benefits such as health
insurance, sick days and even protection for any trade secrets that the employee may be privy to.
Moreover, it can limit the reasons that an employee can leave the company and terminate the
contract early (Findlaw, n.d.).
Furthermore, as an employee you can have your pay with subsequent raises included in the terms
as well as know exactly what could be grounds for dismissal.
All in all a contract can provide each of you with an equitable premise to keep each party happy and
the employment relationship healthy.

Smells like vanilla and strawberries, but there is a stronger smell. A smell to wonderful to
belong to anyone except for my mate. I have found her. I can smell that she s the rouge. I will
have to deal with the human later then claim what is mine. I slowly creep closer, to hear what
they are talking about. I peer out of the bush and try to see what they look like. The one that
smells like vanilla and strawberries has brown hair in pigtails and a cute smile, she s clearly the
younger of the two. Not like I care mines older, it would be awkward if my mate was a child. My
mate is simply gorgeous. She smells like so many things like oranges, cinnamon, lavender and
something outdoorsy. It s quite intoxicating. She has blond, curly hair that is in a high ponytail.

source of food and come in infinite varieties. They are a type of living organism that has no
roots, leaves, flowers or seeds. Mushrooms are actually fungi and in many countries, that is what
they are called. There are countless varieties of Mushrooms that are edible and there are
probably just as many or more that are not edible. The mushrooms that are not edible can be
poisonous and can cause severe illness or worse, death. For that reason, wild mushrooms should
not be picked by anyone other than a trained mycologist. Mushrooms can be purchased dried,
canned or fresh. For a long time, even though there are over 590 species of Mushrooms found
growing in California, the only Mushrooms readily available in the United States for consumption
were Brown Mushrooms and White Mushrooms. Photos of some of the California Mushrooms can
be found on Myko Web, a site that specializes in California Mushrooms. Some mushrooms are so
amazingly beautiful that it is hard to believe that they can be poisonous. With the increasing

Poetic Analysis Of The Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
Poetic Analysis of The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes Langston Hughes was truly able to make
a name for himself through the reaction he gained from creating the revolutionary collection of
poems The Weary Blues in 1926 where this poem with the same title can be found. During this time,
the world was in turmoil and Hughes had just immersed himself in the Harlem renaissancescene. All
the rules were changing around him so, why not in poems too. He decided to take an entirely new
approach to poetryby breaking standard rules of poems and adopting the jazz and urban bluesrules
which were more like a recommendation of rules rather than graved in stone. Hughes had a basic
rhythm and varied it to fit the words or change the mood of his poems. Sometimes he spelled words
to match the way that real people talk. It was refreshing compared to the stuffy, rigid poetry that had
been seen before, written in free verse with an irregular rhyme scheme, mimicking the natural
patterns of speech and music.
In the opening two lines Hughes decided to use a tactic that left the reader in the dark, guessing
what he is talking about. The only element one can decipher is that he is talking about music by
the terminology being used; words such as syncopated tune // croon , the long O sounds of
droning and drowsy which mimic yawning. The sense of music can also be observed by the ever
present varying rhythm, a rocking back and forth feeling replicating the flow of a gentle blues.

and Design of the Socio technical Aspects In this stage we integrate the work of Profession Enid
Mumford, who is known for her work on human factors and socio technical systems. The main
focus at this point is to identify alternatives, i.e. alternative social arrangements to meet social
objectives and alternative technical arrangements to meet technical objectives. Socio technical
alternatives are combined social and technical alternatives hence, the technical terminology. These
are categorised; initially, by their fulfilment of objectives and secondly by costs, resources and
constraints. This method identifies the most effective socio technical solution and the related role
sets, people tasks and computer tasks. The diagram represents the process of defining role sets,
people tasks, computer tasks and the accepted changes to the social system as defined through
ETHICS methods. The basis of the diagram is that of user acceptance and consideration; this stage
focuses on the people within the organisation, their needs and the working environment. This is
done in order to produce the most effective design to suit the company. Reference: [Analysis and

Benefits Of A Paid Time Off Essay
Introduction
Paid time off (PTO) is the system employer use to accumulate all kind of leaves as sick days,
vacation days, and personal days that allows the employees to use upon need. this policy works
mostly in the USA as such no legal obligation for a minimum number of paid vacation days. the

Analysis of Fabulous Superlatives Concert
This may sound trite, but the concert as I saw it is best described by the name of the band, the
Fabulous Superlatives!!! On every level this was a concert I will remember for a long time.
The ArtsQuest venue was new to me and I was impressed with the ease of finding it, the free
amble parking, the friendly staff and the great sound and seating. It is a modern impressive
structure built around the old Bethlehem Steel Works. The ruins of the old plant are used as a
visual backdrop to the new and impressive entertainment complex. There are a couple of
restaurants, and a movie theater housed next to the concert venue. The food was very good, the
serviced just great and I d would and plan to go back.
Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives took the stage with a thunderous explosion of applause
form the sold out audience. It was evident that many folks where their to see Marty as the primary
reason for coming that evening. His band is truly both fabulous and superlative. The line up is:
Harry Stenson on drums and background vocals; Kenny Vughan on lead and acoustic guitar; Paul
Martin bass and background vocals and Clarence the guitar accompanying Marty Stuart. Clarence
is the guitar played by the fabled Clarence White. Clarence and Roger s Rickenbacker 370/12
guitars were stars in their own right getting numerous pictures taken of them before, during and
after the show. Marty , who is a guitar collector, also owns Hank a guitar one owned by Hank
Williams Sr.

Western Civilization
Civilization: The West and the Rest
Niall Ferguson s thesis in his book Civilization: The West and the Rest, is to explain and prove why
western civilization has exceeded the accomplishments of other nations throughout history up until
present day. He attributes this world dominance to six killer applications the west had adopted and
advanced beyond the means of any other civilizations. These applications were: competition,
science, private property, medicine, consumption, and work.
When explaining competition, most of Ferguson s sources come from the comparisons between
Europe and China. China, during the Ming period was an extremely stable and unified empire, and
saw very little competition. Additionally, their technological... Show more content on

The fall of the Ottomans is followed by Ferguson talking about Prussia, who quickly gained power
from good leadership and powerful scientific minds. This also prompted the reversal of Turkey, had
been steadily decline. Ferguson talks about Kemal Ataturk began to adopt features of western
civilization, which included creating a more sensible alphabet. Ferguson s belief was that the
Ottoman Empire had to embrace both the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment if it was to be
credible as a great power, and that without science any country could become subordinate to a more
advanced nation (ch. 2).
The theme switches from Europe in the third chapter to North and South America. It highlights how
the British distributed land within their North American colonies to almost everyone and
encouraged fair and equal self governing. On the other hand, the Spanish kept a system in which all
property was owned by the wealthy and had very little distribution between the rest. Even though
there were vast differences between North and South America, Ferguson believed that the main
reason the North was successful was the democracy they established based on laws for the
individual. These laws allowed for the sanctity of individual freedom and the security of private
property rights, ensured by representative, constitutional government. (ch. 3) Almost everyone in
North America could be substantial

Light Pollution
Effects of Light Pollution on Ecosystems
Intro
Over time, human populations have been exponentially increasing. This growth has led to a major
increase in demand for resources and space. To achieve their goals, humans have caused major
changes in the surrounding ecosystems in many ways. First, they have cleared many areas thriving
with organisms to build roads and cities destroying different ecosystems. Second, they have
overharvested many species for food and resources causing many species to go extinct. Lastly, they
have polluted natural habitats in numerous ways declining species biodiversity. Many people are
familiar with pollution such as air pollution, trash pollution, and chemical pollution. However, a
less apparent type of pollution that is equally important is the pollution of artificial lighting.
Over the past hundred plus years artificial lighting has increased in use dramatically. From 1992 to
2013 there has been an increase in light intensity on coastal zones of about 42% (Brei et al. 2016).
This increasing use of light has had major impacts on surrounding species on land and in water.
Many organisms are nocturnal or depend on light cues to go on through normal daily activities
such as foraging, migration, and reproduction. This disruption in schedule has seen to have major
impacts on varied species. La Sorte et al. (2017) shows how light pollution affects nocturnal
migrating birds. These birds seemed to be attracted to highly lit urban areas disrupting natural
behaviors like migration. Perkin et al. (2014) displays how artificial lighting can affect insects and
their ability to properly disperse throughout areas. Although light pollution has shown to affect
many diverse types of organisms on land, marine organisms have also been affected. Due to the
increase in artificial light pollution, the marine environment can have disruptions which lead to
trophic cascades, changes in behaviors, and changes in interactions among and between marine
species resulting in a loss of biodiversity. If humans keep on the same track they have been, then
biodiversity will be lost, so they must think of solutions to combat and reduce the effects artificial
light pollution has on biodiversity.

Natural Selection Experience
When observing the progression of knowledge within a discipline, one may begin to notice trends,
specifically that the aspects of knowledge that were beneficial to society were further developed,
which outdated the aspects of knowledge that were disadvantageous. This trend is similar to the
principles of natural selection, defined in the natural sciences as the process whereby organisms
better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
Before I describe my interpretation of natural selection, it is necessary to define knowledge, which,
in terms of this essay, is an idea or technology developed to improve the lives, and has been shown
to do so. I interpreted the scientific term natural selection, to better ... Show more content on

Vaccinations have been beneficial in eliminating diseases, such as smallpox, worldwide, and
eliminating diseases like mumps and rubella by over 99 percent. However, certain, serious
conditions, primarily measles, have been reocurring. For example, in 2013, the measles
occurrences spiked to 3 times their normal levels in the United States. This circumstance is
primarily due to parents failing to vaccinate their children, due to claims from other parents that
vaccines can trigger autism in a child. The severity of these claims have led researchers to devote
their careers to prove them true or false, but, as of now, these claims remain bombastic, and many

What Are Worse Than Other Sports Injuries
Some sports injuries, are worse than others Are athletes protected enough in sports? Even though in
some sports, athletes wear pads for protection. Some sports require more pads than others do. Not
all athletes feel safe in their own sport. Some athletes are more prone to injury in other sports. The
injuriesplayers face in football are awful. It s a high risk sport. Players of the sport retire so early
from the NFL because of the massive hits. It really takes a toll to their body. Some players retire
by thirty years old for reasons like injuries. ACL/MCL tears are the most common injurythat is

I play for Memorial so I can say, it is a risky sport. I love it, and there are lots injuries that can
happen though. Hits, blocking shots, constantly being hit by sticks; all of these can cause some
form of injury. Players face lots of bruises, but some of these can cause a more serious, long term
injury such as knee, elbow and hand injuries. Basketball can be high risk. I ve seen some very
graphic injuries from watching a basketball game. All sports have some sort of injury possibility,
but this oe would definitely be on the bottom of the rest. Main injuries are ankle sprains, jammed
fingers, or some of the possible more severe injuries include knee injuries. My experience with
injuries aren t a whole lot, because I would like to say I don t put myself into situation to get hurt
a whole lot. I have faced a lot of bruises in lacrosse and they hurt, but they eventually go away. I
have been in a lot of pain after a few slashes to my hand, I came out right away because of the
pain. I hung in there and finished and it eventually went away. I ve never broken a bone, and I

The panda bear has been around for approximately three million years and we are still learning new things about them all the time. Pandas may seem like very boring creatures because of their lack of activity during their lifetimes, but they are actually extremely fascinating and not to mention very adorable. We ve all had a time where we ve seen a cute, little, baby panda at the zoo and thought, I want one! . There are so many interesting facts about pandas that everyone should know. You will be learning about the background of pandas, why their population... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The population of pandas has been decreasing rapidly since 1990. Habitat loss and poaching are the two major reasons for the pandas becoming on the brink of extinction. Humans have been destroying the forests in which pandas live for decades now, causing them to have to relocate to regions they were not familiar with. Losing their natural habitat meant that they also lost their main food source. Pandas would starve causing hundreds to die. The loss of their home also left them extremely vulnerable to predators in the new area. All of the little effects of pandas losing their habitat are what caused a major drop in their population. The second biggest reason for the decline in their population is poaching. Hunters and poachers target pandas mainly for their big fur coats. Poaching is illegal everywhere and is a big reason for population decrease for other animals as well. The third reason for the drop in pandas is their inability to reproduce quickly. The female pandas are only fertile once a year for a period of two or three days. They usually only have one pup and that pup stays with the mother for at least two years. After that, the panda is on its own. However, female pandas only need to be about 5 years old before they can start reproducing, but the catch is males have to be about 7 years old. The demand for baby pandas is extremely high so that the population to grow, but the time it takes to do so is hurting the population more. With all that said, the population of the panda bear is decreasing faster than it is increasing, which is a major problem that many organizations are working to figure out a ... Trenchless Replacement Research Paper Your Options For Repairing A Sewer System With A Collapsed Line If your toilet won t flush or if there is sewage backing up in your yard, there is a problem with your sewer line. The first step is to see if it is clogged. There could be grease, hair, and paper clogging the line or it could be full of tree roots. A more serious problem is a collapsed sewer line. If the pipe has collapsed, the only way to repair your system is to replace the line. A contractor will dig up the old line and replace it or perform a trenchless replacement. Here are the differences between these two methods. Digging A Trench Digging up the old sewer pipe and replacing it with a new one requires the contractor to rip out part of your yard. While this is a very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first method is by pipe bursting. The contractor digs a hole at each end of your sewer line. Then a new pipe is threaded in one hole and pulled through the other end using a wench and hook. The new pipe busts up the old pipe as it is pulled through. The second trenchless method is pipe relining. With this method, the contractor leaves the old pipe in place. A liner is forced through the pipe and then inflated. Once the liner is inflated, it hardens in place and creates a new pipe inside the old one. This method will only work if the original pipe is in fairly good shape. If a large part of it has collapsed, it won t be physically possible to push the liner through. Deciding Which Method To Use Your contractor has to assess the condition of your sewer pipe to determine which is the best method to use to repair your sewer system. If large sections of the pipe are crumbled and collapsed, or if the pipe makes sharp turns underground, then trenchless repair methods may not be possible. I am interested in what types of activities facilitate students understanding, make students comfortable, and encourage student participation. I chose to concentrate on this aspect of second language(L2) learning because as a future teacher, I believe it is important to be mindful and use activities and interactions that appeal and are beneficial to all students. This study made me more aware of the interactions and activities used in the classroom. In order to narrow down the investigation, the following three research questions were formulated: 1. One quote that I really like is from Thomas Edisonwho said, I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways not to build a lightbulb. What I take from this quote is that life doesn t end after you fail, you needto take that failure and expound on it and learn from it. With this as his foundation it is not possible for the Big bang to be the origin of the universe. As discussed in lecture, the common man denotes all this physical to being related to a first cause in an infinite chain of causes. This ideal is based on the thoughts that there was nothing before he Big Bang, and that the event itself started everything we can receive through our senses. According to Jubien s definition of the universeas containing all physical and material things, any physical cause could not be the origin of the universe because it would cause two new questions to arise. What was that event s cause? If it is even plausible, how can a physical event take place outside of the universe? Jubien would say that the origin of the universe can be answered with a simple I don t know, because there is only so far back causes can observably go before there is a lack of information available. During Medieval times most tales were religious based. The end of the Middle Ages were more corrupt coming from the Catholic Church and that was a serious problem and those moral messages came from the bible. There still may be some explanation to bring into play image of class, especially middle class, well to Chaucer. The middle ages were a time of an era during which social structures and theory were always changing. Each character Chaucer addressed had their own set of values and those values and definition of the moral tales were defined in the medieval world by two structures known as the class system and the church. The Catholic Church was extremely corrupt in middle ages and the Pardoner is one of the prime examples of that corruption in the church. • 22. The National Football League on Legal Hits The national football league has stiffened its policy on legal hits. The hit zone has shrunk, while player frustrations have grown. The policy is enacted in an effort to reduce the number of concussions in the game of football. The enforcement of these rules has strayed away from being all about safety. The policy on hits has created a divide among its players and fans alike. The policy of hits being enforced so strictly has had a significant impact on the sport. The sociology of the NFL and the rule itself drive this argument. By stepping on the field as an NFL football player, it is accepted that it is very dangerous. The players make enough money to make the concussions worth it. Profiting from the fine money for these hits has caused the NFL to be enforcing these rules unethically, the rules and the impact they have had on the sport have been detrimental to football. • 24. The Pros And Cons Of The Progressive Era Working only to die or lose a limb, being a woman with no voice, and dealing with unsanitary meat and food has never been the ideal lifestyle. The Progressive Era was a period of widespread social activism and political reform across the United States from 1890 to the 1920 s. The main objectives of the progressive movement were eliminating problems caused by industrialization, urbanization, immigration and corruption in government (Progressive Era). Yet people in the Progressive Era fought to change abuses with things like working conditions by going on strike or forming groups like labor unions, the 19th amendment to help women in America have the right to vote, and things like the pure food and drug actand the meat inspection act to protect the consumers. People went on strike meaning they stopped going to work to change the work conditions. They felt if there was no workers there was no factories, they wanted better conditions and going on strike was the start to this. Women also went on strike they protested until the Nineteenth Amendment was passed. Lastly 2 food acts were passed to protect the consumers from the meat that was causing illness and death. Despite previous arguments the progressive era was no joke nothing about it was okay until the people were able to get reform laws changed. • 28. Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization This paper aims to explore and confirm the ceremonial and ritual importance of Theobroma cacao to the Maya civilization and its various uses therein. Firstly, I will provide a brief overview of the cultural history of cacao, which is known as kakaw in the Maya language. Next, I will examine the connection between cacao and ancient Maya religion, which is the basis for its importance to the Maya culture. I will then discuss the ritual and ceremonial significance of cacao and its forms of use, based on the analysis of Maya hieroglyphs and iconography, as well as ethnohistorical, ethnographic, and other historical accounts, and the recent research by archaeologists who have found cacao residues in ancient pottery. The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao L.) is native to the northwest Amazon basin of South America and the wild species was spread by humans into Southern Mexico and Central America, where it is thought to have been domesticated (Ogata et al. 2006). The data collected by Ogata et al. (2006) supports Mesoamerica as a center of cacao domestication, but also suggests a possible secondary area of domestication in South America. At first, only the cacao pulp was used for its sweet flavour, yet it wasn t until 1800 BC that the inhabitants of this region discovered how to turn the cacao seeds into chocolate through a process of drying, roasting, and grinding the cacao seeds (Coe and Coe 1996). • 30. Summary Of Heroism In Updike A: Author s and Speaker s Purpose: Updike is degrading, de romanticizing heroism, the actions of Sammy when he quit his job by setting the story during the 1960 s which is when people started abandoning the conservative approach to life and started expressing themselves more openly. An example of open expression is when Sammy quit his job or how the three girls walked into the A P in nothing but bathing suits. Queenie and her entourage are being heroes by breaking the social norms regarding women at the time which makes them heroines in the eyes of many females. They break the social norm by going into an A P dressed only in bathing suits and by the way they behaved. He intends to show the differences in the lifestyles of each member of the triangular conflict and how each lifestyle conflicts with each other forcing Sammy to choose between to live his life like Lengel or Queenie. Lengel being a conservative ancient man or Queenie being an open minded young person. Updike satirizes American society s fondness for heroism by having one of their own. Lengel, shot down a female heroine, Queenie, for standing against the common stereotype of women having to be extremely conservative. B: Drawing Inferences: One would assume that under normal circumstances Sammy and Lengel would be acquaintances since Lengel is a friend of the family, not Sammy. Why Was LГ©vi-Strauss Still Relevant Today In this essay I will discuss why I believe that Claude LГ©vi Strauss work is still relevant today and I will focus on the role that he assigns to the social anthropologist. Claude LГ©vi Strauss was the most influential anthropologist theorist in France. His work which he contributed to anthropology still remains to have significant relevance in todays contemporary anthropology. He was born on the 28th of November 1908 and passed away on the 30th of October 2009. I will discuss his theory and what he argued for and against. Anthropologists like Durkheim, De Saussure, Simiand, Rousseau, Jakobson and Mauss and many more influenced LГ©vi Strauss when it came to his work. First I would like to explain the term anthropology according to (LГ©vi Strauss,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LГ©vi Strauss discusses kinship, which in todays society is still very clear and important. Firstly when anthropologists discuss kinship they are concerned with social behaviours and not biological facts and the two sets of data are often so widely discrepant that it is often convenient to discuss kinship without any reference to biology (Leach, 1973: 96). We have to break down kinship terms into individual systems in order to see what relationship they have. Even though it states that kinship does not have to do with biology there has to be link as it is obvious that a child is related to their mother just like she is to her sister. LГ©vi Strauss is interested in in the systems and not as much with terms of kinship. He looks at the ties by which people are related, rather this be through siblingship and/or affinal relationships. In society in order for a child to be seen as a legitimate child they need to have two parents who are married. Society does not judge this opinion on the relationship between the child and his/her parents but on the relationship between the parents themselves. This extremity has faded into the background for the most part in the contemporary society but is still around in some cases as everyone is always interested in your family dynamic. The way in which people are related is still of great importance. LГ©vi Strauss does not look at the basic relationships for example mother/daughter and husband/wife, but he looks at the more complicated types of relationships such as the contrast between father/son and mother s brother/sister s son. According to LГ©vi Strauss in order for a kinship structure to exist three types of family relations must always be present: a relation of consanguinity, a relation of affinity and a relation of descent. Letting the truth control his life often leads to a feeling of loneliness. Examples of grotesques are Wing Biddlebaum, Elmer Cowley, and Alice Hindman. The idea of the grotesque is seen in the story Hands. This is the first story of the book and is about a man named Adolph Myers, however he is better known as Wing Biddlebaum. This nickname was given because of his defining features, his hands, had restless activity, like unto the beating of the wings of an imprisoned bird (6). His hands are what makes him known in Winesburg. It is said that Winesburg is proud of the hands of Wing Biddlebaum (6), but this is mostly because the constant activity of the hands allow Wing to pick a record amount of berries. Besides his distinguishing feature, many people in town did not know much about Wing and this is mostly because Wing felt the need to isolate himself. To Wing, his hands are something to be concealed. He felt that his hands moved too much compared to the hands of other people in town which were never expressive (6). There are advantages and disadvantages for both the employee and the employer with contract employment. For the employer, it gives them a way to keep their best employees around, along as they can provide terms that the employee finds advantageous. However, by the same token, a good employee could be offered a more attractive contract by another employer when it comes contract renewal time, having a contract doesn t mean you own that employee, but it gives each of the parties involved a measure of comfort. As an employer and an employee having a contract spells out the terms of employment, it gives each of you a clear expectation of the job that should be performed, the benefits such as health insurance, sick days and even protection for any trade secrets that the employee may be privy to. Moreover, it can limit the reasons that an employee can leave the company and terminate the contract early (Findlaw, n.d.). • 43. Poetic Analysis Of The Weary Blues By Langston Hughes Poetic Analysis of The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes Langston Hughes was truly able to make a name for himself through the reaction he gained from creating the revolutionary collection of poems The Weary Blues in 1926 where this poem with the same title can be found. During this time, the world was in turmoil and Hughes had just immersed himself in the Harlem renaissancescene. All the rules were changing around him so, why not in poems too. He decided to take an entirely new approach to poetryby breaking standard rules of poems and adopting the jazz and urban bluesrules which were more like a recommendation of rules rather than graved in stone. Hughes had a basic rhythm and varied it to fit the words or change the mood of his poems. Sometimes he spelled words to match the way that real people talk. It was refreshing compared to the stuffy, rigid poetry that had been seen before, written in free verse with an irregular rhyme scheme, mimicking the natural patterns of speech and music. In the opening two lines Hughes decided to use a tactic that left the reader in the dark, guessing what he is talking about. The only element one can decipher is that he is talking about music by the terminology being used; words such as syncopated tune // croon , the long O sounds of droning and drowsy which mimic yawning. The sense of music can also be observed by the ever present varying rhythm, a rocking back and forth feeling replicating the flow of a gentle blues. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Analysis of Fabulous Superlatives Concert This may sound trite, but the concert as I saw it is best described by the name of the band, the Fabulous Superlatives!!! On every level this was a concert I will remember for a long time. The ArtsQuest venue was new to me and I was impressed with the ease of finding it, the free amble parking, the friendly staff and the great sound and seating. It is a modern impressive structure built around the old Bethlehem Steel Works. The ruins of the old plant are used as a visual backdrop to the new and impressive entertainment complex. There are a couple of restaurants, and a movie theater housed next to the concert venue. The food was very good, the serviced just great and I d would and plan to go back. Marty Stuart and the Fabulous Superlatives took the stage with a thunderous explosion of applause form the sold out audience. It was evident that many folks where their to see Marty as the primary reason for coming that evening. His band is truly both fabulous and superlative. The line up is: Harry Stenson on drums and background vocals; Kenny Vughan on lead and acoustic guitar; Paul Martin bass and background vocals and Clarence the guitar accompanying Marty Stuart. Clarence is the guitar played by the fabled Clarence White. Clarence and Roger s Rickenbacker 370/12 guitars were stars in their own right getting numerous pictures taken of them before, during and after the show. Marty , who is a guitar collector, also owns Hank a guitar one owned by Hank Williams Sr. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Western Civilization Civilization: The West and the Rest Niall Ferguson s thesis in his book Civilization: The West and the Rest, is to explain and prove why western civilization has exceeded the accomplishments of other nations throughout history up until present day. He attributes this world dominance to six killer applications the west had adopted and advanced beyond the means of any other civilizations. These applications were: competition, science, private property, medicine, consumption, and work. When explaining competition, most of Ferguson s sources come from the comparisons between Europe and China. China, during the Ming period was an extremely stable and unified empire, and saw very little competition. Additionally, their technological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fall of the Ottomans is followed by Ferguson talking about Prussia, who quickly gained power from good leadership and powerful scientific minds. This also prompted the reversal of Turkey, had been steadily decline. Ferguson talks about Kemal Ataturk began to adopt features of western civilization, which included creating a more sensible alphabet. Ferguson s belief was that the Ottoman Empire had to embrace both the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment if it was to be credible as a great power, and that without science any country could become subordinate to a more advanced nation (ch. 2). The theme switches from Europe in the third chapter to North and South America. It highlights how the British distributed land within their North American colonies to almost everyone and encouraged fair and equal self governing. On the other hand, the Spanish kept a system in which all property was owned by the wealthy and had very little distribution between the rest. Even though there were vast differences between North and South America, Ferguson believed that the main reason the North was successful was the democracy they established based on laws for the individual. These laws allowed for the sanctity of individual freedom and the security of private property rights, ensured by representative, constitutional government. (ch. 3) Almost everyone in North America could be substantial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Light Pollution Effects of Light Pollution on Ecosystems Intro Over time, human populations have been exponentially increasing. This growth has led to a major increase in demand for resources and space. To achieve their goals, humans have caused major changes in the surrounding ecosystems in many ways. First, they have cleared many areas thriving with organisms to build roads and cities destroying different ecosystems. Second, they have overharvested many species for food and resources causing many species to go extinct. Lastly, they have polluted natural habitats in numerous ways declining species biodiversity. Many people are familiar with pollution such as air pollution, trash pollution, and chemical pollution. However, a less apparent type of pollution that is equally important is the pollution of artificial lighting. Over the past hundred plus years artificial lighting has increased in use dramatically. From 1992 to 2013 there has been an increase in light intensity on coastal zones of about 42% (Brei et al. 2016). This increasing use of light has had major impacts on surrounding species on land and in water. Many organisms are nocturnal or depend on light cues to go on through normal daily activities such as foraging, migration, and reproduction. This disruption in schedule has seen to have major impacts on varied species. La Sorte et al. (2017) shows how light pollution affects nocturnal migrating birds. These birds seemed to be attracted to highly lit urban areas disrupting natural behaviors like migration. Perkin et al. (2014) displays how artificial lighting can affect insects and their ability to properly disperse throughout areas. Although light pollution has shown to affect many diverse types of organisms on land, marine organisms have also been affected. Due to the increase in artificial light pollution, the marine environment can have disruptions which lead to trophic cascades, changes in behaviors, and changes in interactions among and between marine species resulting in a loss of biodiversity. If humans keep on the same track they have been, then biodiversity will be lost, so they must think of solutions to combat and reduce the effects artificial light pollution has on biodiversity. Trophic Cascades One of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Natural Selection Experience When observing the progression of knowledge within a discipline, one may begin to notice trends, specifically that the aspects of knowledge that were beneficial to society were further developed, which outdated the aspects of knowledge that were disadvantageous. This trend is similar to the principles of natural selection, defined in the natural sciences as the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. Before I describe my interpretation of natural selection, it is necessary to define knowledge, which, in terms of this essay, is an idea or technology developed to improve the lives, and has been shown to do so. I interpreted the scientific term natural selection, to better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, certain, serious conditions, primarily measles, have been reocurring. For example, in 2013, the measles occurrences spiked to 3 times their normal levels in the United States. This circumstance is primarily due to parents failing to vaccinate their children, due to claims from other parents that vaccines can trigger autism in a child. The severity of these claims have led researchers to devote their careers to prove them true or false, but, as of now, these claims remain bombastic, and many lives are in danger because of the failure to get ... Hits, blocking shots, constantly being hit by sticks; all of these can cause some form of injury. Players face lots of bruises, but some of these can cause a more serious, long term injury such as knee, elbow and hand injuries. Basketball can be high risk. I ve seen some very graphic injuries from watching a basketball game. All sports have some sort of injury possibility, but this oe would definitely be on the bottom of the rest. Main injuries are ankle sprains, jammed fingers, or some of the possible more severe injuries include knee injuries. My experience with injuries aren t a whole lot, because I would like to say I don t put myself into situation to get hurt a whole lot. I have faced a lot of bruises in lacrosse and they hurt, but they eventually go away. I have been in a lot of pain after a few slashes to my hand, I came out right away because of the pain.
