Welcome to this presentation on the essentials for excellence in robotics and commissioning for assembly manufacturing.
This presentation covers the essentials for excellence in Robotics and Commissioning for assembly manufacturing that you can take advantage of to help you realize innovation.
We will start by talking briefly about the Siemens PLM Software Smart Innovation Portfolio.
The Siemens PLM Software Smart Innovation Portfolio encompasses these 4 principles that drive our product strategy across our entire product portfolio… and deliver the following advantages ….
Engaged Users – Right information. Right time. Right context.
Intelligent Models – Knowing what they are and how they’re made.
Realized Products – Virtual product. Real production.
Adaptive System – Easy deployment today. Flexibility for tomorrow.
<click>
In the area of manufacturing, we offer the Tecnomatix digital manufacturing solution portfolio.
So, how did we get here? Do you remember the seminar/webinar that you attended? In that presentation we told you how…
… with Tecnomatix, you can bridge the gaps that exist between product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production through the use of product lifecycle management (PLM) and digital manufacturing (DM). This solution enables excellence in assembly manufacturing through the following essentials :
Increased flexibility and efficiency through better planning;
Maximized resource utilization through simulation;
Achieved targets before and during production through better control;
Improved agility across product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production through a single source of manufacturing knowledge (PLM for Manufacturing).
With these advantages, our customers can realize innovation and compete more effectively…
Reduce risk, and deliver new and innovative products faster
Find ways to free up operating expenses to invest in advanced technology and stay ahead of the competition
Add flexibility in production to expand product mix and penetrate new markets
Now we will have a look at the extension of these essentials for excellence to Robotics and Commissioning for assembly manufacturing, which can help you to realize innovation.
What Manufacturing Simulation solutions does Tecnomatix offer and what do they mean for our customers?
As you may recall from our introductory essentials for excellence presentation, Tecnomatix Manufacturing Simulation solutions allow for verification of the methods and resources being defined and selected during manufacturing planning, whereby a significant number of changes only found in production have already been overcome while they are easier and less costly to fix, helping to gain the right insight into real-world performance of plans.
Through the use of simulation, it is possible to try variations of the manufacturing process, with a high degree of accuracy, in order to determine which will provide the best results. These engineering studies and what-if analyses are carried out very quickly, easily and at low cost during pre-production development phases, thereby reducing the need for physical tryouts and ensuring that any required physical tryouts can be executed faster. The resulting process plan (model) can easily be shared with others using visual displays that show the exact operations, resource layout, and their use, resulting in proven right-first-time manufacturing plans.
Successful manufacturing simulation is best achieved through the use of technology and functionality that can deliver solutions such as:
Assembly simulation and feasibility analysis
Robotics and automation simulation and analysis
Logistics and throughput simulation and analysis
Human factors and ergonomics simulation and analysis
We will now have a closer look at the capabilities of the robotics simulation solutions.
What is driving the need for robotics and commissioning solutions in assembly manufacturing today?
Trends – labor costs are rising while assembly automation costs are declining, with the advent of emerging smart innovations.
Implications – companies who implement assembly automation are able to gain a competitive advantage; however, investment in automation and advanced assembly methods is not being leveraged effectively; automation is difficult to program and/or inaccessible for programming.
Possibilities – manufacturing companies who assemble or deliver complex, high-value products can gain improvements through the more effective programming and utilization of assembly automation.
Solutions – introducing offline tools and methods for design, verification and commissioning of assembly automation and flexible tooling systems prior to and during production allow for these assembly manufacturing challenges to be met.

In order to meet these challenges in assembly manufacturing you need to implement robotics and commissioning solutions, including simulation and offline programming.
Siemens PLM Software can help by offering Tecnomatix Robotics and Commissioning Solutions that:
Enable the design, simulation, optimization, analysis and offline programming of multi-device, robotic and automated manufacturing processes, in the context of product and production resource information.
Provide both standalone and concurrent engineering platforms to optimize automated processes and calculate cycle times.
Allow for the design of life-like, full-action mock-ups of complete manufacturing cells and systems within a 3D visualization environment.
Enable the predictable introduction of automated processes by allowing manufacturing engineers to virtually validate automation concepts before the start of production.
Now we will look at the Robotics and Commissioning solutions that Siemens PLM Software has to offer for assembly manufacturing that can help you to realize innovation.
Robotics and Commissioning
Reduce programming time and optimize cycle time
Tecnomatix Robotics Simulation tools allow you to develop and simulate manufacturing processes for robotic applications, including tooling and peripherals, enabled by these key capabilities. Confirm the workcell layout design and robotic processes through the use of tools for advanced placement and optimization, operation sequencing and simulation.
Define required collision lists and check for collision and interference conditions within the process.
Build, simulate and confirm the full sequence of operations for the defined process.
Document and deliver the confirmed process.
Develop and generate native language robot programs that can be downloaded to the robot controller for execution in production.
Export process studies as html5-enabled documents that allow for sharing and review of the resulting simulation in the cloud, from any device.
Select image to open a video showing the file being opened in Google Chrome, an HTML5, WebGL enabled browser, to demonstrate the use of simulations in the cloud.
You can also open the file named “ArcWeld_Study_WebView.html” directly to show this working on your machine, using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or other capable browsers.
