Editor's Notes

  • #3 I don’t think I need to say an awful lot about this. My vision for the College is that we are making the most of technology, it’s high quality and we become national leaders. I think its possible, there are a lot of good examples throughout the College of using eLearning successfully. Right now we need to concentrate on consistency. The eLearning team need to lead and enable change???
  • #4 What’s happening now? We now have a strong team in place since January. There has been a lot of change in the eLearning team over the last 2-3 years in the team. We are gaining momentum as a team and (I feel) this is being reflected in successes in the curriculum. We are working towards bringing our mandatory eLearning modules (child protection, data protection and equality and diversity) in house. We are also bringing in a variety of CPD and training into Moodle. This will give us more control, enable better access, better reporting and compliance. ??? We are piloting Moodle with our sub-contracted provision, enabling us to use the tools that we have in the workplace and give our students quality education??? Cross college IWB training has been very successful and has ignighted many teaching staff to look at classroom technology in a new and very positive light. Rather than being something they “should” use, the benefits for learning has been very exciting??? We will be piloting the use of iPads in the classroom from September in partnership with a company called Jigsaw 24. Mobile technology is becoming more pervasive. BYOD, device agnosticism. “Since 2011, more smart phones are sold than PC’s” ( http://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20130319135728-108843352-on-why-smartphones-are-killing-pcs) .
  • #5 We need to enable high quality teaching and learning by supporting the development of all staff and ensuring students have the ability to access our materials. We have staff who are using eLearning effectively. We have staff who are not engaging with eLearning at all. We need to identify these development needs and promote a basic level of competency across all eLearning (and basic skills that impact on this including ICT skills). Our main priority for the upcoming 3 years is to ensure our staff and students have the necessary skills. We have staff using eLearning very well (150 hits per student in January – accessing 5 times a day across the month). We need to use this resource better. They know how to make this work with our specific needs. The eLearning team will be coordinating this??? We are reviewing all of the data available, including our training sessions and use of eLearning to give a real picture of what is happening at the college. We will be auditing eLearning to ensure what we are doing matches our requirements. ??? ???
