trends in technology... eLearning
The 21st century is customizable. In ten years, the
teacher who hasn’t yet figured out how to use
technology to personalize learning will be the teacher
out of a job. Differentiation won’t make you
‘distinguished’; it’ll just be a natural part of your work.

trends in technology... eLearning
e-learning Educator
to raise the profile of e-learning through
the college and in all domains

to help develop teaching and learning
pedagogy that incorporates e-learning

to assist in embedding and mapping
e-learning into the curriculum

to raise staff capacity in the use of
applications and devices in order to
improve student learning outcomes

my role in 2012.... eLearning
2012 the year of technological & e-learning transition
the beginning of a roll-out of an opt in 1:1 program supplemented by
an increase in available netbooks across the school...

a move which has been thrust upon us by Kevin Rudd’s promise that
every year 9-12 student have 24-7 access to a laptop...

any one class, that you teach, may have students who ‘BYOD’
  their
own iPad, android tablet, netbook, laptop or ultrabook, students who
have a government netbook or students who have opted to not have
a digital device in the classroom...

greater access to existing desktop computer labs because of the
increase of students having their own devices...

where we are at... eLearning
2 ways to look at it...

where we are at... eLearning

experiments with a range of e-learning tools

shares success stories

acts as a liaison and spokesperson for e-learning in
their domain

e-learning blog
a website setup with resources and stories of e-
learning success categorised by subject area

a specific section for troubleshooting and questions

built by the e-learning team, representative of all
domains

the e-learning plan in 2012 eLearning
e-learning embedded into curriculum
each subject curriculum document to have a
ranked list of e-learning activities for each subject

this list is revised and updated each year by the
subject teachers

    homework’ excuse
anywhere, anytime
access on any device
Pedagogical Shift
The implementation of a BYOD system means that we need to adopt
a student-centred model of teaching and learning

With different devices students will not have uniform access to
applications and ways of accessing the curriculum

Teachers will need to empower students to select different ways to
engage the curriculum and produce work that fits their situation

Positive: increases student agency and ownership and should improve
student engagement and motivation

Negative: things will be a little bit messy as teachers and students get
used to the shift in teaching and learning design
what this means... eLearning
Some Ideas...
- it is the teacher, not technology, that has the biggest impact upon
teaching and learning
- technology is merely another tool, that if used well, enhances
education outcomes
- start small and slow, allow space for learning and getting students on
board with learning something new
- try to be excited about experimenting and sharing your stories, even
if they don’t go so well!
- if you are thinking technology will not do ‘this’ or ‘that’, it probably
will, so ask around and do some online investigating

some points to consider... eLearning
love to hear from you...

if you would like to be on the e-learning team
ideas of what we could do in the future
stories of what your successes and failures in e-learning
critiques of our current setup - the good and the bad
