This document discusses drug education effectiveness and reviews some key programs. It provides definitions of drug education and drugs. It then examines who delivers drug education, what young people want from such education, and two programs to learn from: the European Drug Addiction Prevention trial and the School Health and Alcohol Harm Reduction Project. It finds that EUDAP reduced drug use rates and the SHAHRP led to increased alcohol knowledge and reduced risky drinking and harm over time compared to the control groups. However, it notes that drug education is not a complete prevention and some programs can do more harm than good.
