The document provides draft designs for the front cover, contents page, and double page spread of a magazine. I roughly sketched a draft version of what I intend to make my final piece like. I will use
a large image of a female model to draw attention to younger girls, to look up to as
role models. I will use a large image which takes up majority of the front cover, as the
image is the main feature which catches readers attention. The final images I choose
to use on my front cover will also be included on the double page spread. Because the
audience has decided to buy the magazine due to the front cover image, this means
they will want to know more about the model presented on the front. So I will choose
to write my double page spread on a article about the model on the front cover. I will
include the image of a female to the left of the magazine, to give me more room to
the right to include more advertisements. Therefore, to the right of the main image, I
will intend to use makeup and fashion clothing to attract the target audience of young
female teenagers. I will use large shapes around the images I use. I will use circles,
stars and boxes and make sure these are the same colours as the house style, to keep
the magazine professional looking. The title of my magazine is ‘JUICE’ and I will ensure
this is presented big and bold to become more recognizable. In our group we have
used the same font, font size and title. This is to keep the house style of our magazine.
However, to change the issue of our magazine every month, we have all used different
colours, depending on what other colours have been used on our front covers. The
font of the title is large, and easy to read. I will use a header and footer on my front
cover to give me more room to write brief information about advertisements. The
information I will use will be about other celebrities.

This is one of my designs proposed for my contents page. I think this contents page I
have designed has a really good structure which I think is important because it fits the
‘rule of thirds’ convention of a magazine. The colour theme and style needs to be the
same colours as the front cover. I will stick to a white back and everything else will be
the same colour as the front cover, which I have chosen to be purple. I have used the
colour purple because it is a typical stereotypical girly colour, and hopefully this will
identify the audience better, and attract girls to buy the magazine. I will intend to
include text boxes to give the page numbers. These text boxes will fit with the house
style of purple, and the text used to give the page numbers and information will be a
bright pink to stand out. I will list the page numbers in blocks of what the pages show.
For example, pages that require information about fashion will be all put into sections,
and the same with shopping, boys, etc. This will make it easier for the reader to find
the page numbers for what they want to read about. On my front cover I have used a
header and footer. I will continue to use a header and footer on my contents page, too
make the magazine more professional. Also it gives the page a finishing touch, without
it looking too messy, or too boring. I will include a image of what the front cover looks
like, again, to make it easier for the reader to find what they want to read about,
which was included on the front cover. I will use arrows to make it informal and easier
to pick the features on the image. On the contents page I will also use a small image of
what will be on the main double page spread. This will be to make the reader want to
carry on reading the magazine, and get excited to get to the ultimate double page
spread, which will include an exciting story. Next to the smaller image, I will intend to
include a long shot of a female wearing a stylish dress.

I had the idea to have a large image of the model on the right side of the double page
spread, fairly large, and to have most of the text on the left side. This will make the
double page spread look more organised and less squashed. I want one big picture in
which the artist is looking directly into the camera, and a smaller image, which is
relevant to what the article will be about. I want the article title to be really large and
in bright pink so it stand out from the rest of the page. I will use a brief introduction
about the article in pink writing, so it still stands out but not at much as the title. I will
use columns to write about the pop sensation. Instead of using a long article about
the pop star, I will use questions with small answers. This will make the double page
spread look less overcrowded with too much text. The short replies will advise the
readers to read about the pop star, whereas if the double page spread just included a
lot of text, it would be difficult to read, and can be easy to get distracted. Again I have
used a header and banner, however, the double page spread uses different colours
than throughout my magazine. This is because the double page spread it less
important than the front cover, so using black and pink instead of girly colours makes
it easier to read and understand, because the colours aren’t bright. Also, within our
group, all three of us will use the same colours for the double page spread. Hopefully
this will make the reader know they have reached the best part of the magazine. The
large image I used on the double page spread will be the same image used on the
front cover. Also, the smaller image included will be included on the contents page.
