As of the present, humans are the only species that are able to put together structural linguistic
formations, such as words and sentences. Throughout the years there have been many theorists trying
to master the acquisition of human language and demonstrate the theory of how language is developed
in early years of life. This is a question people, including myself often think about. Using two
theorists, Burrhus Fredrick Skinner (1904 1990) and Avram Noam Chomsky (1928 present) we will
explore the two theories they studied in their lifetime and dedicate their life to, and contrast the two
theories of language development, exploring the Behaviorist Theory, studied by Skinner and the
Nativist Theory, studied by Chomsky.
These two theories of language development differ greatly from each other. Both Skinner and
Chomsky believed strongly in their theory. The first difference in the development of their theories
lies greatly in both of their occupations. Skinner was a psychologist and Chomsky was a linguist.
Skinner believed in the psychological side of language development and believed that children learn
to acquire language by using taught responses where he used his reinforcement theory and believed it
had nothing to do with any mental processes or devices in the brain that develop language. Chomsky

Disruption in the Airline Industry Conceptual air carrier, Poppi, provides the framework for an
analysis that will be discussed throughout this paper in regards to disruptive technologies and their

Similar to Uber and Airbnb, Teague s concept would absolutely offer disruption to the status quo of air
travel (Shu, 2015). The conceptual air carrier is called Poppi and they have analyzed the stress
experienced by travelers and other industry shortcomings to focus on the needs of the passenger while
ignoring established industry practices. Would these radical ideas offered by Poppi create a wake up
call for the airline industry, and particularly legacy carriers? Professor Taneja explains that most
airlines acknowledge the importance of disruptive innovation, however, their degree of reaction varies
greatly from one carrier to another (Accenture, 2017). He also notes the industry is divided in their
reaction to disruption with some continuing business as usual and others completely overhauling how
they do business altogether. Strategies for transformation in dealing with each carrier s workforce,
processes, and legacy systems requires the right mindset and leveraging emerging technologies. Poppi
attempts to addresses these issues while focusing on what bothers air travelers most and changing the

Obviously the pressures of big business would be much tougher to deal with in a big city, like Boston,
than in a small rural farm town, because the competition to be the best is much greater in the urban
areas. The time period in which the story is set, the late 1800 s, is also a crucial part of the puzzle. All
throughout the early 1800 s up until the present, big business has been on the rise. When large
companies started setting up in cities, people moved to where the jobs were, and soon small towns
became gigantic urban metropolises. The big business is what ultimately causes Silas moral rise and
financial fall, and that is a crucial part of the plot. If the story where set in a different time period it
would not have as big an impact. Also during the late 1800 s, social standing was very important. In
those days a person was measured by their social standing, so it meant everything. The reason this is
important is because, interwoven in the main plot is a secondary plot. This secondary plot has to do
with the love triangle between Penelope Lapham, Irene Lapham, and Tom Corey. Everyone seems to
think that Tom and Irene are in love with each other, while in actuality it is Tom and Penelope that are
in love. This secondary plot only adds to Silas and Mrs. Corey s inner struggles. If the story where not
