1. Layout: The margin gives the magazine an
orderly format. It is in an ‘L’ layout, so you
instantly read from left to right, noticing
the headlines the magazine wants. Colour
schemes are mainly dark which are
simplistic, mature and appealing.
Masthead: For the masthead they use the
same designed text on the magazine
‘Singles’ so it is recognisable in South Korea.
The font of the masthead on the magazine
is formal but informal at the same time, as it
is aimed at teenagers and young adults. The
colour of the masthead is white which
gender neutral which is appealing to both
genders.
Main image: The main image is quite
provocative and appealing to female
gender. The main image is also appealing
to other man as they would want to look
like Junsu on the main image. The
clothing that he is wearing is a black
blazer and what seems to be a black t-
shirt underneath, he is also wearing
ripped jeans which are quite dark
clothing as Junsu has a bad-boy image on
the photographs that they have used in
the magazine. Also the make-up that
they have used is quite effective and
makes the image look more appealing to
the audience.
Date: The date of the magazine is a
common convention in all magazines.
Price: Price is very small conveying
that the company doesn’t want the
price to stand out as it doesn’t
appeal to the audience. The price is
6000 won which is about 3.45
pounds
The feature headline: ‘’time to
shop’’ is written in a light green
colour and it is spread over the width
of the magazine and it is slightly
smaller than the masthead. The light
green against the dark background
makes it stand out and visible to the
audience.
The photograph of Junsu (the artist
in the image) overlaps the masthead
suggesting that the ‘’Singles’’
magazine is successful and
customers will recognize it even if it
is covered. Showing the ‘’Singles’’
isn’t a independent magazine and is
easily recognised.
This magazine is a very popular in
Korea and it is only sold there and
also it is sold online as well for the
international audience. The main
image appeals to the teenagers and
young adults as he is a popular
Korean singer and actor so many
people would like to buy the
magazine as many people see him
as a good role model and idolise
him.
2. The content page has the
masthead on the top left
part of the page which
contains the Korean flag as
part of the logo. This shows
that the target audience are
young Korean teenagers
that are interested in k-pop
and the artist that are in
that particular genre as we
can see many images of
different artists.
They have used blocks around
the images to make it stand
out more. Also they have put
the writing as in blocks as well
so it is eye-catching. They have
also used different colours
that match the genre of the
magazine.
They have used capital
letters for the writing,
also different colours and
fonts.
Also in the content page
they are advertising the
artists by giving out two big
posters in their magazine,
which also makes them,
advertise themselves.
This magazine seems to be
an international magazine
as it in another language,
although it contains Korean
as well. The main image in
this content page appeals
to the teenagers and young
adults as there are many
popular Korean singers so
many people would like to
buy the magazine as many
people see them as role
models and idolise them.
3. In the double page spread they are using a big image of the k-
pop group (which is also their album cover image) ‘’Beast‘’ to
attract the audience so they read the page. To keep the audience
entrained they talk about
the members in the group
and about their debut.
Also they have their
album cover on the side
as well as the title. They
repeat the image so the
audience recognise the
album and are tempted to
buy it if they see it.
They have put blocks of
images of each member
at the bottom of the
second page as well as
description of the
members to make to
audience and fans t feel
more connected and
know things about the
members.
They use a lot of descriptive words to try and influence the audience that are not particularly fans of the group
to make them like them and try to make them interested in that group so they can be advertised and make the
audience to want to know more about them so they can read the rest of the article in the magazine.
