2. Music genre
• I have decided to make a magazine for the music genre pop. This is
because I am most familiar with pop music, and therefore it would be
easier for me to decide layout photos colours etc. that fit the genre. In
my audience research pop were the second most popular genre. This
means that by making a pop magazine, I will be able to appeal to my
audience. I also feel like it give me more control over what I want to do
by choosing a genre that I know and personally like. Nevertheless, I also
want to make a magazine that is stylish and simple. I know that I will be
able to do that by making a magazine for the pop genre. If I were to
make for instance a rock magazine, I should probably have used dark
colours and made the magazine «edgy». However, by making a pop
magazine, I don’t have to do that which means that I can make the
magazine however I want. I can do dark and edgy, but I can also do
light and «pretty».
3. Working title
• I have chosen to use the title pop vibes for my magazine. The
reason for this is because I think it is a name that the age group
15-25 can relate to, but it also explain which magazine it is. I
also think that the name is simple which will suit the theme I will
use for my magazine. The name is also not too long, but it’s not
too short either, which will make it easy to fit on the front cover.
The name is also associated with positive and pleasant
experiences. This will hopefully make the magazine more
appealing. Also because the word pop is included in the title, it
is very easy for those who are interested in pop magazines to
find the magazine without reading it.
4. Cover price and frequency
• I have decided to make a weekly magazine. This is because in
that way, I can make magazines more frequently which is good
considering that my audience spend a lot of time and money on
music each month. Therefore, I think that it will appeal more to
my audience by making a weekly magazine. This also means
that the price of the magazine needs to be lower than it would
be for a monthly magazine. Also because my audience are from
the C2DE social class, I should have a generally low price on
my magazine. Therefore, I have decided to price my magazine
at 1.70£. Because I have a lower price for my magazine, it
means that I will have to include more adverts in my magazine
to make up for the low price.
5. Style
• As I have mention before, I would like to have a stylish and
simple magazine. This is because I find it easier to make a good
hierarchy in these types of layouts. I also think that it will fit my
genre a lot better than magazines that look more messy.
Nevertheless, I also think that it will suit the tilte of the
magazine. Also layout is important to my audience, which
indicates that they like layouts that are clear, and make it easy
to find what you’re looking for in the magazine. Hopefully, it will
make my magazine appeal to new readers as well. On the next
slide, there is photos of four different magazines who’s layout I
really like. Not all of those magazines are music magazine, but I
have decided to show a photo of them because of the layout.
8. My Reader
• Lisa is 16 years old and a college student. She spend at least 2-
3 hours a day on music. This includes listening to music,
reading music magazines attending concerts etc. She also
spend a lot of money on music each month. She normally
spends around 10-20£ on music each month. She loves music,
and she spend a lot of time reading about her favourite artists,
and also likes to read about new artists that she haven’t heard
that much about.
10. Stylesheet
• For my stylesheet, I just tried out a bunch of different fonts and
made a red circle around the fonts that I decided to use for my
magazine. I will use a different front for the title of the magazine
than I use for the text. I will also use the same font for both
headlines, sub headlines and the text. I also marked the colour I
will be using in my magazine with a red circle, but I will also use
black and white. I made my stylesheet using Adobe Illustrator.
13. Photography Planning
• For my photo on the front cover I am going to use a medium
shot. I am going to use a friend as the model. I will keep the
clothing simple, so therefore, she will just wear a black top. I will
take my photo in a studio, because I want a grey background. I
will also take some other photos with another model to use for
my double page spread and content page. I will use two doll
heads for the shoot that I’ll use on my double page spread.
15. Article
MIE’s video is going to be released next Friday. Luckily we were allowed to take a first look at the video
under the making of it. Her song “Doll Face” has been on the top of the charts ever since it has been
released, so it’s been a huge sucess for the artist.
MIE started her career back in 2009, but never really got through with her music untill 2011. Now she is
a highly successfull artist in the industry, and have fans all over the world.
She has made 16 songs that have made it to the top lists. And has just finished her 4th tour around the
world. She says that she likes to keep her days busy, and she sure does.
She says that while groing up her parents always let her be herself and do whatever she wanted to do.
She says that this has had a huge inpact on the artist and person she has become today.
16. The song Doll Face is about societys rules and how everybody is expected to be and how not. She
says that this is a thing that she and many others have struggled with, so she decided to write a
song about it She intended the song to help young people accept themselves
We got the opporturnity to get some photos from her new music video. The video will be released
next friday, and will be the first track on her new album which also will be called doll face.
This is the second track that she has released from her new album, and both of the songs sounds
amazing, so we are exidet for the release of the entire album.
She says that the album will be about finding yourself, and also about how you don’t need to live up
to anyone’s expetations. Her intention with the album is to show that we are perfect the way we are.
She also think that it will be intresting to release a complet album with no songs about romance.
Because almost all songs these days are about romance, and she is exitet how that will work with
her audience.
The music video will have a doll theme to refer to the text. MIE says that she also doesen’t wear any
makeup in the video. They are not going to retouch any of the footage. She says that this is to keep
